I can speak English and Japanese. Although Japanese is the first language I've spoken, my English has become far more fluent. I can read up to sixth grade level kanji. ^^;

I've learnt French since elementary school, and I'm continuing to learn the language today. I can read and write but my speaking still needs a lot of work.

I speak English fluently, as it's my native language, and I personally rate myself as "intermediate" in Japanese.

I've just started learning French, so I can do the basics. ("Hello/Where is the bus/Do you speak English", ect) and I would love to study Spanish (it's so pretty~~) and thai, because I'm trying to learn bits and pieces of it while I'm here. :3

English, of course. I do know a little bit of Japanese, as a result of my earlier attempts at learning the language in an attempt to self-translate various manga that I collected over the years. Also, I've had some exposure to Latin through a middle-school class that gave me some idea what Romance languages such as Spanish and Portugese are saying in writing. And finally, there was also a short French class.

When I was in senior year in high school, the curriculum of the school changed middle of the school such that it now includes French as one of its minor subjects.

I never took my French class seriously because it was so hard. Plus, we started out so late already.

But I guess, I know a few words/sentences in French. Thanks to that class.

Fluent only in portuguese and english. Portuguese for I am brazillian, english for I like good-quality fanfiction, and Brazil has none to offer.

I also understand Spanish, but have difficulty in speaking it (clashes too much with portuguese, too many same-sound-different-meaning words for me)

I would say Japanese, but only when I've watched the anime times enough to remember what they are saying :p

I would say Japanese, but only when I've watched the anime times enough to remember what they are saying :p

Yeah, I guess that goes the same for me too. I was once "enthralled" with Nihongo (from watching anime at that point of my life) that I frequently wrote all the terms in a piece of paper and then memorized the words.

Fortunately, some of them still lingered in my mind. I guess, I can understand the basic sentence structure of Nihongo.

Hindi

Spanish

Ah, found a beautiful thread <3

Anyway, I so love learning new languages, I hope once I can proudly say I'm multilingual.

My mother language is Slovak and I'm fluent in Czech as well; they're similar and I spent holidays there when I was a kid.

I don't know how good my english is, I'm a student of a slovak-english billigual school though. Let's just say I'm fluent in english as well, although I know I make grammar mistakes here and there.

I've studied spanish for a year; I quit due to.. well, the professor had bad teaching skills and I started to dislike the language because of that, so I just quit. I quite understand written text, but it's more like I just figure out what is the text about from few things I remember :XD

And soo, as my second foreign language (after english), I have italian now. My cousin lives there, so I use to go there for long visits. And as for now, I know very little, I hope I'll be better next holidays :D

Eh, it's not over, I'm also learning japanese, but that's just a form of self-study. No problem with sentence structure, particles and other basic things but I have no resolve to learn kanji :sweat I'm saying to myself, once I get my e-reader I'll study more.

I used to learn german (for six years, haha) but I know absolutely nothing now. Oh, I remember 'Eins zwei polizei, drei vier officier, funs sechs alte hex...' but that's it.
Hey and I can read arabic, but that's just from a year-game in scout :tem

Uff, I think I have a history with languages. But I swear I'll be fluent in them, once! (A)

Portuguese (native)
English (passable), I can read and listening with no problem, but speaking and writing is kind of hard... it's mostly because I never did an english course
Spanish - It looks like portuguese in some ways, so a can understand some of it, but I can't speak shit.

I'm thinking about having some french or german class, also it'll be important to polish my english(I want to try a student exchange program with my university)

Still merely a bilingual with Spanish being my first language and English my second... I am fluent with English although I do have a bit of a Latino accent. I was planning on starting italian or german this month but I never quite got to it.... Maybe I am just lazy lol

Cantonese and English are fluent. I've taken lessons in Japanese, courses in French, Korean and Latin as well. Who speaks Latin nowadays, I have no idea. Maybe one day I will end up going to the Vatican City and trying it out there -shrug- As for Korean, I've learned the basic alphabet and grammar structure so I can create simple sentences.

Hmmm, I'm native Dutch,...
Pretty fluent in English (though my accent is horrible)...
My Japanese knowledge is Intermediate/Advanced (I have BA degree in Japanese)...

And once upon a time my German and French were intermediate as well I guess (was though those two languages throughout middle/high school), but I forgot almost everything by now. I think I can still read and understand German if I really try, but that's about it...

answering this here

And what language is that? Lingala? Kikongo? I am a bit of a philologist... I like the study of comparative languages. I mainly concern myself with the Indo-European family (because of my background in Archaelogy) but I like other language families too, like the Bantu family. But I guess I'm going off topic here...

Lingala is the national language. Kikongo is from a different area/tribe of the country. My parents speak swahili(mum) and tetela(dad); I used to speak very little swahili as a kid but understand very clearly but now...nothing. It's a shame. Even my lingala is increasingly becoming french orientated; true lingala is very raw and spoken mostly outside the capital or by elder generations, whereas lingala/french is used most often in the capital and by younger people.
