On topic--I wonder how many chapters are left. I doubt this match will take any longer than 2-3 at this point, since Ryoma has no more power-ups (hopefully). And we also need time for the victory celebration and Ryoma's match with his Dad. There's probably going to be an epilouge, too, showing everyone at the pro level.

I think Konomi can wrap this up in the next 3-4 months.

Well, what can anyone expect from a shonen manga? There's never been a guarantee that PoT would stick close to reality. Actually, if it did, I wouldn't be interested in it. There's plenty of real tennis around here.

From the earliest chapters where we had Ryoma hitting Twist Serves with ridiculous amounts of spin, Momoshiro jumping to ridiculous heights to hit Dunk Smashes, Kaidoh inventing a perfect around the pole shot by slipping, Fuji hitting balls that just spin on the ground.

It'd be one thing if the series had started out as a realistic, Hajime no Ippo-esque sports manga and then turned ridiculous. But Prince of Tennis has always been over the top. It's one of the charms of the series. Along with the characters, which are still there.

Pot was at E21 level of reality at most. It was kinda "riiiiiiight.Keep beleving that." but not THAT impossible. From a ridiculous amount of spin to a super saijyan aura,there is A LOT of difference.

PoT did start out being realistic. In the beginning, they related the styles and techniques to real life tennis players--much like HnI still does, in fact. Sure, the characters were overpowered for middle school players, but EVERY sports manga is like that. And if you told me when I started reading it that people could die or go Super Saiyan during matches, I would've have laughed at you.

My, how things have changed. :D

So I think being a little jaded, at least, is quite reasonable. It took a very long decline for us to reach this point.

In all seriousness PoT got me into tennis...and it's become my favourite sport...it's not all "IN YOUR FACE" like other sports but it's still very competitive....im currently playing Virtua Tennis 3 with my custom character that i named Sanada who seems to have a killer jack knife

Fist i want to point out two differences.
One thing is lack of credibility.
That is that under the apparent presented laws of the universe in the story, things lack of logic.
For example if there is a game between tezuka and momoshiro, and momoshiro beats tezuka 6-0, the story lack of credibility for obvius reasons. And i think there is a little of that in POT. Lack of credibility is bad in any story, nobody likes that. We want things to be coherent inside the story. And there is plenty of discussion if somethings are credible or no.
For example, considering the great resemblance pot world have with us. I think that if you would find players cappable of doing what pot players can, you wouldn't be caring about tennis anymore, but about the profounding Cientific impact all this have. I mean, if i discover someone that can hit a ball so hard that can take away somebody 5 meters in the air. you are in presence of something really big. But everybody is more like "hey, what a nice shot" and that is.
Also considering that tennis rules are supposdly the same as , well Tennis. Kirihara shouldn't be able to continue the game in the semifinals, you can't be losing blood and playing. Well, the rules are changed it seems.
I coudl go on and on

Another think is how fantastic a story is. That is how different are them compared to our real world. And we agree that there is a degree. On think is having 16 year old tennis players playing like top pros and a LITTLE MORE (the very first chapters) and other thing very different is players that can give so much spins to shoots that any return will go outside the court, having superhuman strenght and superhuman speed, capable of hitting a ball so fast that can blow away someone like 10 meters away.
Or someone that can take someone senses just by playing tennis.

Really the last match feeld more like a saint seya fight between Virgo Shaka and Pegasus seiya than a pot match.

Ok,I had my tennis match today.
I didn;t get anyone to record it, unfortunately...But it was sooo much cooler than this week Pot chapter haha


I got to do the evil laugh.
The guy was like "Good luck" and then I said "I'm so going to kick your ass." He was kinda surprised and just said "we'll see." I then did the evil laugh. Everyone looked at me,it was funny. I then tried to have fun with the game,and I really did....b-but I DIDN'T GET A BADASS SUPER SAIYAN AURA! Maybe my hair changed color ,but I can't say it for sure. Since I couldn't pull a Ryoma and get a super saiyan aura,I pulled a Hiruma from ES21 and started doing mind games,lol.

The score was,at that point,4-games 0(second set,3 set match. I had lost the first set on purpose,6-0 to make things dramatic)

First I pretended to put a really heavy power wrist, and said "You DEFINITELY CAN'T BEAT ME." Then I did smiled just like Hiruma,and went to change rackets(I had two,and was using a really old one that was supposed to break just so I could do that trick) and then changed the power wrists into other ones that aren't heavy at all,lol. They just look like they are. Then I said "You know,I can't even be bothered to use my left arm. Although I'm left handed,my right arm is enough."

Note: I was using my right arm during the whole match,but the guy didn't notice it.
Note2: I'm actually right handed.

Then after I won 2 games,the guy was strating to forget about me "not being serious" so I said "Just so you know,from now on,I will aim only at the right side of the court."
Through reverse psychollogy or whatever, he went running to the left side LOTS of times,thinking I was going to stop aiming for the right side.

Using that and about 12 other tricks,I won the set ,and went 6-5 in the third set. Then I said "you know,you are somewhat good,but still trash. I will use my left arm now."
Then a friend who was narrating the match(it was a tennis tournament in my school) said exacly what I blackmailed asked him to say. Stuff about how I was an incredible player and all.

In the end,I won 7-5,2 sets to 1.

The funny thing is,I didn't need to use those mind tricks at all,I was honestly much better than the other guy but... it was WAY MORE FUN to play like that hahaha.

....oh my god. I just realized that my life just now would have been a much better pot chapter than this one!

One is named Atobe...itried the best to make him like keigo, i even do a fake Hametsu e no Rondo where i hit a lob smash so its returnable....ironically he has no jack knife

Ok, this chapter for me was great. What I didn't like was the having PoP inside you and all that, but the Samurai Drive was great. Besides, I started liking POT from the first time the crazy auras appeared. I mean, it was pretty lame until MnK appeared. I was even frustrated than in the anime they replaced it for that lame Cyclone Smash.

I will keep supporting POT and the crazy auras and stuff(except the movie and the live-action which was truly bad). And, if by some chance this manga turns into people playing normal tennis I will be mad.

On a side note someone said something about having fun would make you a better player was nonsense. In real life yes, but do you remember Tsubasa(in Captain Tsubasa France Jr. Tournament Tsubasa defeated Germany because he remembered that the player who had fun while playing would win, and now in World Youth Misaki also says that the player who enjoys, in their case soccer, would be the winner). So, even though I didn't like the PoP explanation part of everyone having it I enjoyed and will keep enjoying POT until it ends(hope it's not next chapter though)

I have a friend who learnt to fly when he was 11. He's now 18 and flying for an airline company (maybe just co-piloting or whatever, though).

Anywho, I really liked this chapter. I actually very much liked the "all of us have PoP from the start". And Samurai Drive! :D Can't wait until the next chapter - and especially can't wait until these last few chapters get animated :D

It's really weird to think that Prince of Tennis will be over this week. An 8 and a half year, 42 volume run is a really significant achievement, after all. But I'm thankful for the nearly 400 chapters of great memories that Konomi has given us.

Just finished watching Hungry Heart Wild Striker, and now I'm having doubt in Ryoma's victory *sigh*
Anyway, I'm okay with the idea of Yukimura winning this match, as long as it has a twisted twist before it ends.

This is how I think it should be:
Yukimura wins the match, he puts aside his (ice cold) character and start shouting random stuffs in satisfaction (after all, he just won against one those "freaks of all freaks of nature").
Even though Ryoma lost the match, he doesn't mind because he had a lot of fun.

I just really want to know the result of Yukimura vs. Tezuka match when they were little.
I find it curious, since Sanada said Tezuka on par with Yukimura at the time.
I mean, I don't get it how Yukimura evolved so fast: Tezuka lost to Sanada, and Sanada don't even have a chance against Yukimura (the guy is beyond unbelievable).
I know this is manga, but still I would like see some explainations for that.

It´s surely a problem with the magazine... the author usually wants to finish most of the plot´s main interest. The problems comes when editors put you on a deadline for the end of the manga, it´s no surprise he had to rush everything...

^ LOL yeah, what the fuck? NOTHING happens. There were so many basic things left out:

- What the Third Years were doing. Even if it was insignificant, we should've at least seen them.
- Ryoma and Sakuno's relationship. Did the Prince ever hit that? XD
- The fates of all the characters in the future. Konomi could've put a blurb for each character, detailing what they did once they went to high school and beyond. That would've been nice.
- Whether or not Ryoma faced his Dad again.

If this were a series with heavy artistic and philosophical depth, which forewent a conventional narrative to probe the meaning of life or some shit, then an open ending would make sense. But this was just lazy. :p

All in all, I'm glad it's over. Following this got embarrassing after a while.

It was an interesting story and I enjoyed it to the end.
When I finally got serious in tennis after watching how the true world of tennis is in reality, I trained and got stronger. It was then that somone introduced PoT to me and motivated me even more. I also enjoyed the side plots in the anime and humor at times. especially the hidden side.

People can only do what they think they are supposed to do...

Ty for the world of PoT as I wouldn't know what would I really be doing today if I never seen it. I probably wouldn't have gone through daily training to the point of exhastion as a teenager.

I'm kind of disappointed that Kaidoh became the Captain. Everything we had up until now indicated that Momoshiro would be the Captain. But I guess that isn't a huge deal.

As far as the last scene with Ryoma goes, I guess it's up to our interpretation. I'll choose to believe that Ryoma's just taking some time off in America, or something like that.

Ultimately, the ending was not as satisfying as it could have been. But I thought the matches themselves were great. And Konomi kind of had his hands tied with this. Maybe we'll get an epilogue chapter.

That was really the only part that bugged me. Everything else was great. Ryoma beating Yukimura and the scene where Fuji sees Tezuka smiling and all of that was awesome.

Konomi just fell into the same trap that too many other authors do.

The epilogue was the part that was just so stupid. If he had just ended it without those last few pages, it would have been great.

I think POT became a lot lame in the last chapters, the games from the Kantou tournament were so great compared to the nationals; this game against the "invencible Child of God" was so boring when you compare it to Ryoma vs Atobe, Ryoma vs Akutsu or Ryoma vs Sanada(the best game in the entire series), not to mention other great games(Inui vs Renji, Fuji vs Akaya or Tezuka vs Atobe - all games from the Kantou tournament).
I think the mangaka got bored in the ending because the games were so simple plotwise with everyone transforming into super sayajin, anyway it was a great manga; not at the same level has Hajime no Ippo, ES21 or Slum Dunk but a great reading anyway.
I´m really going to miss POT:(

The ending was a piece of crap; just like that it was over, they could have extended it with more detail. They built up the entire match and in 1 chapter it's basically over. Ryoma dominates him in like 10 pages and the match is over, It's 4-4 and next thing it's over 6-4, did we blink and miss the entire match?

Best matches were Tezuka and Fuji without question; everything else seemed like a filler. A tie up would have been nice to see for all the loose ends.

Honestly; this is one of the worst and quickest endings of a storyline I've read.

Okay, I don't like the ending either, but I suppose it fits the series. PoT was, imo, never really good, but somehow, I got stuck in this manga in the first place. Might be because I saw the anime first and hated it, so I checked the manga to see if it was better. Then I read a couple of chapters. Then a couple more. It had caught me.

I never liked it, the same thing over again (the variation was really between total domination using some crazy technique and going from the brink of losing to 7-5), but somehow I kept reading the new chapters. I was never glued to the screen, and I never even thought of buying any volumes. And now that I'm glad it's come to an end I'm not sure if it is because it's over, or if I actually liked this silly and extremely predictable series. But either way I have to admit, this manga did a good job to keep me reading it to the, kind of anticlimatic, end. :)

if you really think about it... what else could've happened in ryoma's match? once he attained ten'imuhou what chance did yukimura have of winning? the only way to surprise us is to make ryoma lose but how would that even happen. it takes away from ten'imuhou being the ultimate move doesn't it? so to me i makes sense to cut out all the "boring" parts and just go straight to match point. who wants to see someone get completely dominated? it's boring to watch.
of course i can't shake the feeling like something was missing, but i thought it was a good match nonetheless.

i think they just ended it suddenly just to get out of answering some questions. like how would the tezuka/fuji rematch go? or how is tezuka gonna go pro or play tennis at all if tezuka phantom completely destroyed his arm? and who's going to fill in the huge gap in seigaku now that all their talented players are gone?

I am one of the few who liked the finals more than Kantou. I mean Ryoma SSJ was really cool and it's obvious the author wanted to give the message that to be the best you have to enjoy tennis and that if you enjoy it no one one will be able to beat you.

Anyway, things that were left out for me: Nanjirou not playing Ryoma(if you count where Nanjirou is at the polls you will see that he is in the top 20 players, but counting from the bottom) if he had played Ryoma we would have seen how great he is(he unlocked PoP) and maybe he would have gotten the respect he needed as one of the best players in the manga(he was always shown owning Ryoma withouth using the doors or even Muga).

I am one of the few who liked the finals more than Kantou. I mean Ryoma SSJ was really cool and it's obvious the author wanted to give the message that to be the best you have to enjoy tennis and that if you enjoy it no one one will be able to beat you.

Anyway, things that were left out for me: Nanjirou not playing Ryoma(if you count where Nanjirou is at the polls you will see that he is in the top 20 players, but counting from the bottom) if he had played Ryoma we would have seen how great he is(he unlocked PoP) and maybe he would have gotten the respect he needed as one of the best players in the manga(he was always shown owning Ryoma withouth using the doors or even Muga).

I also liked the Finals more than the Kantou tournament.

The Hyoutei rematach was overall more exciting than their first match (only real exciting matches the first time were the Doubles matches and Tezuka/Atobe, while all the matches were exciting in the rematch), Higa's match was a lot better than Midoriyama, Shitenhouji was also a lot better than Rokkaku (I'd put it on par with the first Rikkaidai match), and Rikkai Dai's match was a lot more interesting the second time around, too.

I do wish that Konomi would do an extra chapter (maybe in the next Akamaru Jump or in the volume), and put some things back. I would like to see Ryoma returning back to Seigaku, some resolution with Sakuno, and Tezuka (and others, probably) making it into the pros.

Well I have been posting on the Eyeshield21/Mx0/Reborn sections and the Tantei Neuro/Topic,but above all that I've been to a Yugioh forum making jokes about JACK ATLAS(a new character on the new yugioh anime) and saying just how he is more awesome than chuck norris.

Mx0 is a great manga,seriously. Basically it is about a guy who has to defeat people who use magic by bluffing. I can't say that it is as good as pot...pot was just too awesome. But it is really good!

Lol this was the worst series I have read to the end. I started two weeks before the final chapter and finished in two weeks. The characters were good that was the reason why I have read it to the end but it has nothing to do with sports. You say you started to like tennis reading this. I actually like Tennis and I started to hate it when I read this. I cant believe the mangaka tried to give examples for the impossible things that the characters did from the real life. Lol Marat Safin would laugh to death if he read his example.

The formula for a popular shounen series is pretty easy, you just need to copy dragon ball whatever the subject is.

I dont play tennis myself but I follow tennis matches quite often. Tennis is mostly about fundamental. You need to train about ten years just to reach a certain fundamental level. People reading this series might think after trying a few days they are not gifted for tennis and give up, seeing they cant master tennis in 3 months as shown in this series. And what is about that absolute perfection thing? Even the best tennis players make unforced errors quite often, while missing 1 mm is a very big mistake in this series. How can a beginner handle such an expectation?

You can learn tennis from this series as much as you can learn the real life from Tom and Jerry cartoons.

I mean there are series that take place in a fantasy universe and you expect fantastic things and that is what you get in the series. But this series is about a real life sport and takes place in real life so I expect to see something that actually makes sense. I would be disappointed, if I knew tennis only from this manga and later watch a real tennis match.

I remember Filipino dubs were okay since they followed closely the actual Japanese scripts (or have they started following the English dubbing trend and try to add their own lines for comedy?) Let's see I remember that I started DBZ there (GMA7) but finished watching the series here. 2001.

I've always liked Doubles (I don't have enough stamina for a three or five set match) but I guess Konomi prefers singles.

the yakiniku battle was way crazier than the manga version (I think...) but a few moments in the episode is simply hilairious like....

1)Tezuka was making a speech but the rest of the regulars just ignored him and he was "emo-ing" slightly at the next scene with Fuji and Taka-san consoling him. xD

2)Oishi became "black" because of the regulars treating Yakiniku lightly.

3)Atobe's expression when he drank that coffee:rofl

4)Inui's moment when he pictured Atobe's lips and wanted to kiss him...he was like :3 (:err...something wrong here...) but it was hilairious anyway...:rofl

5)Chitose's expression when he drank that Inui juice...it's so different from the other victims:D

As for Atobe's wig...it was revealed in volume 40.5 that Atobe is currently wearing a wig, the manag doesn't explain it so the ova is using info from 40.5 that counts as canon

So, does anyone have any news on the new konomi manga? I kinda would like to see a Prince of Football since ES21 is ending.....

That's exactly why he needs to do another sport manga. Seriously,I love pot but......Urh,it was waaaaaaay too weird after a while. And I loved the weird part too,because it was so dumb that it was awesome!

But I can see konomi making a shounen manga.....It just wouldn't be as awesome as pot was. But I can see him turning Golf into a manga.

Yeah, Konomi should have that raquet replaced by a sword or something I mean seriously. Of all the sport mangas I read this is the only one which truly seemed out of this world. Aura's, modes and ultimate shots are good but only to a certain extent. Konomi certainly broke it by miles. :P

Konomi should've taken a page out of Morikawa's book--the moves and stuff could be stylized, but EVERYONE should've had realistic styles. And I know that would've been possible, because real tennis is more fun to watch than PoT matches. The games just weren't handled well. :/

golf wouldnt work because you couldnt do anything to ur opponent. with tennis, you have to return and attack at the same time.

tennis is the probably the only sport that brute strength cannot win against skill (i.e. hyakuren < saeki, taka's usually a reserve player), and the coolest part of PoT was the kwazy moves, so the only other plausible sport would be basketball, which was covered by slam dunk already

I think nothing can beat Captain Tsubasa, it´s just unbelivable...so is Ring Ni Kakero, Prince of Tennis is the most normal one, since the powers are mostly effects.

Ring Ni Kakerou is the Father of ridiculous sports manga. It even puts POT to shame.

First off, it's blatantly racist. The Junior US Champion (who's black) is a sexist, manipulative pimp, the US team is full of degenerates and criminals, and the whole German team is full of Nazis.

Also, people get punched through ringposts, literally hit the lights, and get juggled Marvel vs. Capcom style. The characters are capable of blowing truck sized holes in walls and knocking people out of the ring with jabs. The air pressure from the punches cut like swords; the lead and his rival can punch faster than the speed of light IN THE FIRST EPISODE. The main character's special move knocked down a crane when he first used it. A crane. By accident. All in amateur boxing by preteens.

Oh, and the Junior World Champion is Jesus Christ.

POT and Tsubasa don't have shit on RnK, because Kurumada made the boxing absurd from day 1.
