If you're referring to what I think you are, that's a one-shot called Q Club (or Cube) by Shinkai Hideo. Shinkai-sensei has written other one-shots in Jump before, but none of them have been serialised.

How could he have written other oneshots in Jump if they've never been serialized? :blink

Sweet, I liked Grandchild of Nurari Hyon alot! I hope it ends up staying in the magazine. And the fact that they're starting so many new series means that Muddy and K.O. Sen should be getting the ax within a month or two. D. Gray-man had better get higher, because every time I think "Oh, it's lasted this long, Shueisha won't cancel a series that's been running for 150 chapters", I think "Shaman King", and then I get worried.

I apparently didn't pay enough attention to the list of series ending, because I thought those two were on it. xD

Muhyo to Rouji is over 150 chapters, isn't it? From what I hear of volume sales, DGM doesn't do too badly there (I guess it has a strong fangirl base). I'm concerned about it too, but then, it does reach higher points at times without having a cover or colour page, so...

It'll probably be true since 3 new coming series, there'll be automaticly be victims for the space in the magazine
Well, look at it like this, PoT and Muhyo ended in this past issue, plus HxH came back, that means that there is one open slot in the lineup. Since 3 new series will start each week starting next issue, HxH is either coming back for a VERY limited time...shorter than last, or two more series will have to go.
So, yes it's very likely that KOSen will end next week, and then Muddy the following week. The wildcard here is, if whether the editors will keep one of those series if, and only if, HxH isn't permanently back...which is doubtful. Do the editors like Muddy or KOSen...or whatever series may end in their steads enough(Who knows? Strange things can happen.) to keep it around longer? Remember how P2! survived a half a dozen chances for it to be canceled. (Meaning something other than P2! was dropped when a new series started, despite it consistently being last or second to last place in the ToC for it's entire serialization.)
This will be interesting to see.

If KOSen and/or Muddy don't end very soon, and HxH is back for good, then the only series left to drop will be more popular ones (I think). The other new series (Hatsukoi and Psyren) don't seem to be doing terribly enough to deserve a cut, and I do hope older and more popular series (none of which have consistently stayed at the bottom for months like Muhyo) won't be ended, either. So even if the editors like one of the new series, I don't think there are any other options for cutting this time, either.
Of course, since my favourite series is a possible candidate, I may just be ignoring reason...
Does this seem to be the permanent return of HxH, or will it probably be temporary again?

I do know that the last time HxH returned, that the information was published about how many weeks it would run in WSJ before it went on break again...but it doesn't seem like we're privy to this information this time. I might need to ask someone with an issue if it mentions it anywhere in the magazine.
Also, I wouldn't worry about DGM ending, it's anime is still airing and the tankoubon sales in Japan AND the US are pretty strong supposedly. I don't see it ending unless Hoshino wants to end it. I think Poseidon or Yusha Gaku would end before a series like DGM or Mx0.

Incorrect. There's no open slot in WSJ.
In that issue, there wasn't the usual oneshot that WSJ publishes almost every issue. HxH takes that OS's place.
In the next issue, with the extra 2 slots from PoT & Muhyo gone, you'll get a new series & a oneshot.
So, on top of KOSEN being kicked off, you'll need one other series to be kicked. I'm thinking Yusha or Muddy.
And then WSJ continues normally.

As it currently stands, here's where most of the series probably are for the moment regarding whether or not they'll be ending:
-Any series three years or older (KochiKame/OP/HxH/Naruto/Jaguar/Bleach/ES21/Gintama/Reborn/D.Gray/Neuro): Forget it. Unless one collapses drastically (D.Gray is at fault here) or is closing in on an ending (ES21 still looks to end this year unless the final game takes "that long"), they're in it for the long run and won't be leaving now. Besides, Muhyo (which was done anyway) and PoT (which sort of ending even if its fans said it wasn't complete enough) were the sacrifices this time around.
-To-LOVE: Possible but really doubt it for the moment. Essentially for such a light series, it got everything it really needed: a nice run, a fanbase and an anime starting in April. It could just end now with some slight resolution and be called a success but it all depends on what happens.
-Mx0: Its still got somewhat of a support base and certain signs ink towards an anime before the year is out, so its really unlikely.
-Usagi/Sket Dance: The biggest of the new series from the last year, with Usagi probably getting its first anniversary after the new series premiere. They're strong as is to not get knocked off like this.
-Yushagaku: Could go but it just yo-yos too much and seems to have a bit for being the current "gag series". Unlikely but possible.
-Hatsukoi: It has support and the Kawashita name but yo-yos. Isn't super strong but I don't think it will be gone this round.
-Psyren: The only "potential" of the last batch, meaning it sticks around until either it takes off or it drowns.
-Poseidon: The "Maison du Penguin" of the last batch, meaning we may be stuck with it due to editorial like.
-Muddy: The best bet: its ratings have been weak (though it did beat To-LOVE last week) and they do want to have one empty slot.

Usagi isn't that low comparatively. And its anniversary should actually be coming up once we get past the three new series. (my prediction is that we get the three new series, then Usagi gets the cover for 3/24, then the month ends with the To-LOVE anime start...and possibly its 2 year anniversary)

No, Oneshots are usually special case for ToCs. It doesn't matter where they're placed because they will receive no rankings, and at most there isn't more than two OS's in one issue.
It's not clear to me whether OS's count. The normal amount of series (not oneshots) in WSJ is 20, and sometimes 21 when a one series ends, and another begins in the same issue. I don't count OS GGpX.

From what I've seen of the rankings, Hatsukoi really has had nothing that really made it stand out as a major ranker. While Usagi and Sket have shown consistancy and timing with its ranks, Hatsukoi has just yo-yoed between the middle and the bottom with only really a fanbase from Ichigo 100% keeping it somewhat relevant. Maybe its finally finding its footing now but I really have had a hard time seeing it compared to the other two which have been around longer.

Pure Gag series don't ever seem to be popular outside of Japan, yet a series like Poseidon still outlasts Muddy and K.O.Sen...
We foreign readers don't seem to get it, probably due to the innumerable amount of cultural references.
It does seem to be doing decently in the ToC rankings though, unlike how K.O.Sen and Muddy were doing.

No no, I'm not sure of when Jaguar got it's fixed position, and what the circumstances were, maybe someone else can enlighten us...but I don't think a debut series from a virtually unknown manga-ka would just be GIVEN a fixed spot in the magazine automatically. Unless there's some serious nepotism going on? Or the editors absolutely love it...
Yeah, it looks to be a pure gag series, which you can usually tell by the length of the chapters. Jaguar is usually 6-7 pages, while Poseidon seems to be around 11 pages long. I know Maison du Penguin was around the same length as Jaguar, as well as Gag Manga Biyori. So gag series' are usually quite short.

No it's actually a known fact the head editor of Jump knew the mangaka of Maison very well. :P
People in Japan didn't even understood why it was in the magazine for as long as it was.

I never assumed that everyone died in the final chapter of "Maison du Penguin". From what I saw, the author was upset they were ending and the last part is just some guy blowing up the apartment. That doesn't mean everyone is in it...I mean, I know the infamy of "Harenchi Gakuen"'s ending but that was from what I heard Nagai fingering the system at the time. (that said, I hope Poseidon doesn't do it again)

This image serves absolutely no purpose. Here's a neat picture of the spines all together in my bookshelf.
http://img240.imagevenue.com/loc381/th_62048_WSJ_01-16_covers_122_381lo.jpg (http://img240.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=62048_WSJ_01-16_covers_122_381lo.jpg)
Seeing them like this raises some interesting questions: Why does issue 09 not have "2008" on the spine? Why is 'Muddy" on issue 3 printed so high? Why cut off the panorama image? The world may never know.
Other members were editing the panorama image together all nice and pretty from the scans, but I haven't seen an update in a while. It also looks like a new image starts with issue 15. Too bad, since one big panorama would have been awesome.
I have so many Jumps, I think I need to start trashing them.

You should see the debate going on over at Arlong Park over what happened to Nami on the image, now that it switched to the summer image. It'll probably end up as the Straw Hats partying in all seasons. I just wonder what happened to Spring-Nami...

It's fun thinking she's psycho-drunk, but we're probably not missing anything exceptional. If it's 14 weeks per panorama, then it counts out to about one image per season, yeah. It looks like the spring image needed another two issue spines to complete it, but there were two double-issues in the first fourteen weeks, so maybe that's why it cut off.
That's particularly the most weird thing I saw. I mean, it just looks ugly cutting the picture this way...
Yeah, it's pretty weird just cutting off right there. When I was organizing my Jumps, I double checked the numbers to be sure I had it right, because it's just so jarring.

1-14 with tree and the next with beach
Explains why nami is cut.

But that's no reason for having Nami cut. They could have put the characters closer or something if they knew they only had 14 issues per picture. It's weird...

I don't know if Usagi is ever getting the cover even for an anniversary unless it really shows itself. At this point, the magazine is so crowded with massive hits that the first anniversary for a series like Usagi may not be too much a big deal, particularly if it could end if none of the new series dies a quick death or Usagi doesn't prove itself bigger than a bunch of massive, proven hits.

well hatsukois first volume charted on its release, so i think they'll hold onto that for now, i think the closest to bottom who doesnt have their volumes chart is Sket Dance, but that's only two in, and charts well in the magazine, so that could play it safe too.

The sad thing about the 2nd tier is that many of them just yo-yo too much. One week you think they're finally showing something that gets them notice and may finally break them through..and the next they're near bottom and all the "established" series are crushing them. One week its Usagi with that predicament, the next its Mx0. Though I am shocked Yushagaku of all series is in the top 5, it may reflect the 50th chapter a couple weeks back.
As for Naruto beating OP...well OP has been as genius as ever but its both the beginning of the latest arc...and this was around the point of the ridiculous ending of the Uchiha fight, so I can see it myself.

No comment. I don't want to start a war.
As for the matter regarding Yushagaku's rank, I guess it was not from that and more just a fluke of it having supporters out there. Its not really that noticable compared to many of the newer series, probably due to being a gag manga. (though I say that if its a success, get rid of something like Poseidon and let Yushagaku ebb and flow with the rest of them)

Okay, what is happening with Naruto beating One Piece these last two weeks.
My guess: there were too many tards of "the Itachi fight" that they ignored all the amazing stuff going on in OP to get Naruto on top.
Yushagaku is the biggest surprise...but i'm starting to think it could just be the slight bit of hype each of the 1st years get...though Yushagaku is nearing its first year anniversary. (and that hasn't helped Usagi as we see) I'm starting to think that if all three of the new series stick around (which could be the case), Usagi and/or Hatsukoi could be used as the ending series.

Here's hoping Hatsukoi gets the boot. Does it even pretend to have a plot?
DGM got on the cover of Summer Akamaru Jump last year (sharing with gintama and reborn), dunno if that counts.

Do you read hatsukoi? the plots are pretty good, outside of the swimming one that keeps getting revisited. and the incest-like characters.............
the kappa plots are brilliant. there we go, a defense i can stand proud of. the others are okay, but not anything special.
and it probably wont get kicked anytime soon, not with the great sales of the first volume (straight in at number 10 when it came out, no new shueisha series ahs done that in a long while). so itll probably pull a muhyo, or a death note, or so on, and stick around.
Usagi however is the real problem child. no sing of great sales for the first four volumes, it has to really pull itself up to stay in.
and poseidon MAY be fixed in a high position, as maison du penguin was for its year of serialisation. we can only hope.

Psyren is averaging a placing of 14.6, so it's technically doing better on average than Hatsukoi. Add the fact that its first tankoubon isn't on sale yet. You should wait until the sales totals come in for the tankoubon before you start lamenting.

i like to think it isn't quite as..... dodgy as to love-ru, but i get what you mean. still, if i make one appeal, it is to suggest you read the latest chapter. It's surprisingly.......... brilliant. In fact, if double arts doesn't continue to be the best jump series out at the moment, this chapter of hatsukoi could well be the weeks highlight, emotively speaking.
ugh, its depressing that i like something that becomes so good, then debases itself ¬_¬
still, if this arc goes well enough, i wouldn't mind an early exit...

I think HxHs news is bad. I liked the manga a lot but a lazy mangaka who thinks he can do everything at his OWN will even for the sacrifices of his fans can't be supported. So bye bye HxH

Ah,no I think you misunderstood.I mean,a friend of mine told me that mostly a series that has alot of ecchi and has a little bit of action is usually short and never reached 20+ volumes or so,and he proved to me by showing me Ichigo 100%.But I don't know about other manga, though.Sorry 'bout it,koeno.

Read about this on the LJ...Hatsukoi I understand going through hard times, but if Usagi ends and Poseidon remains in the magazine...then there really is no taste in the Jump office.
As for HxH...I really see Togashi moving it to another magazine before ending it...but if he does then he does. Not the first time that he's been bullied by the editors. (see some of what he pulled with YYH's end from what I've read)
