Right now in the SJ in america they're about where the espada are first introduced. When i was reading the american version i saw a huge chnage in one of the pages

original scanlated

US version

I'm just wondering if anyone knows why it's like this...

I'm pretty sure Kubo actually changed the drawing when the tankobon was released in Japan.

Those are in this months Shonen Jump. I'm pretty sure they're from the same chapter, aren't they?

Yami looks slightly cooler in the second one more like something some one would get in a tatto but the Japanese original still has that DBZ feel to it

DragonMoonZ

Yammy looks way more cooler in this one, but Ulquiorra has some kind of a dumb look in his eyes:s , but nice to find more of these changes, another reason to buy the tankobons :eyeroll

They censored Matsumoto's boobs in the most recent one.

I am utterly distraught :(

Did not notice that, nice find. I think Yammi looks kind a cooler on the US Version, while Ulq looks like he is constipated. :)

you kno what tho? i have the bleach volumes and the shonen jump mags and what is censored in the magazine isn't censored in the volumes. for example, in the magazine when Chizuru grabs Orihime's breasts from behind they censored it but in volume 21 when u look at it they left it completely alone uncensored. when volume 22 comes out ill be looking to see if they left Rangiku's breasts alone... ive also been wondering what they are gonna do for that one seen when Rangiku comes out of the bath at Orihimes house and is positioned over Orihime...

i wrote Shonen jump about it and they told me they have to censor the magazine because of the audience that it is aimed at and how different society is here as opposed to japan's...

on a completely different but related side note, anyone notice the changed in naruto Rock lee's drunken fist to potion punch?!?! WTF?!?!?! damn censoring...

Alcohol? EVIL
Sex? SIN
Putting your fist through a child's chest? Priceless.

Some things the American publishers will censor. For everything else, there's violence.

I just understand and accept why they did it. They probably wouldn't have if Bleach wasn't in SJ, anyway.

But you're absolutely right. Let's burn down Viz and stop reading Manga.

im ok with burning down Viz, but stop reading manga? i only buy the books because i want to support the author and if someone else can publish it uncensored then hey let go burn down Viz but lets never stop reading manga! i need it...

but yes, Bleach being in shonen jump is whats causing the censorship since its only in the magazine, the actual volumes have no censorship so i guess ill just cancel my subscription LOL... yea right... somethings u just gotta live with huh?

A little too true.

(OF Topic: Mind if I quote that in my sig?)

On Topic: I agree its awkward but its what you have to live with really. We get imports from America over here in Britain and they are labelled as "Young Teen". There are actually laws about what can be displayed in content materiel. Likely...and unfortunately it was done with that in mind as to be able to allow it to be marketed to a greater audience....as if that stops kids these days from buying it anyway....

Go on ahead! I'd be flattered, just do me a favor and put a space between "some" and "things."

I wonder what the laws say, regarding Rangiku's shirt: "No more than six inches of cleavage"?

why would u censor that anyway? i mean, really, pretend you work at Viz, how do you decide what to censor? at what point do you look at her cleavage and go 'woah buddy thats too much breast hanging out of ur shirt!' and edit it? what are the laws concerning this anyway? ayone know?

How do you know? You ask yourself one question: "Is it something good in this world?"

If so, then censor.

If not, then censor anyway.

I don't know too much about it due to the fact I'm not exactly upto date with the American legislation on censorship and ratings. I don't think there's actual guidelines per say. What I would think (And so far what I have been saying is based of laws elsewhere and a bit of copy and paste common sense so I could be wrong here) is that they took to the point where it was no longer suggestive boob flashing upto where its just a low ish cut top (Well if you take into relative proportions its not actually that low cut....)

EDIT: You know its a sad day when three males turn a discussion about boobs into a serious debate about how American censorship laws in publication work....

My only point was that all they've done was erase half a line and add another line. Really, not a big deal. Then, you have Shaman King, which hasn't been in the magazine since August, being ripped to shit. Erasing bits of cleavage and ass cracks is fine, but when you start changing names of characters and attacks/techniques, followed by changing art, jokes, and language, it just grates on me.

you want to be more angry? Look at the art change between the jap and usa ver. of Pokemon : Electric tales. ( i think that's the american name) The change is super major?

ever scene with extra skin they cover it, ever scene with boobs jiggling around they make the character flat chested

In FMA they changed Greed's cross that he was suspended on into a giant slab off rock too actually.

Is the changes in US version with the mangaka's will or US's will? I don't see anything that unappropriated to be published with the Japan version. Everything is fine, why bothered to change it?

Viz media's...so...US mostly. Unsure if its the author who does the corrections themselves though.

Yeah, that was kinda cheesy, but it's the only thing they done to FMA to date, and it was just a page or two, really. When you're on Vol 14, you don't really care as much anymore. :P

LOL!!! yea that is sad huh? man do i love boobies... one of the pluses of my g/f being pregnant :amuse

anyway, there has been a lot more censorship in the past but i guess it has been more lenient as of late, there have been some things where i go wow i bet they are gonna censor that and it comes out in the US totally uncensored. so yea, maybe its what they kno is aimed more towards the kiddies under whatever the age where they dont like boobies falls under. though i think those kids have problems... how can u not like boobies?! but i guess in the end its better than not getting manga at all... that or importing all the manga in japanese and learning japanese... which also isnt such a bad idea... but i like my US versions, i have almost 300 manga on my bookshelf, 85% of it is Viz manga... the one thing that rele bugs me thoguh is their release schedules, they need to deliver it out here faster!!! sorry, kinda off topic here and there...

well like ive said, most of these censors are just in the magazine. FMA is the only one i kno of that i read that has been censored in the volume. Bleach its just the magazine but the books are ok. so i guess it has to do with the medium its released in, maybe more kids buy the magazine than the volumes? i mean, that magazine carries more manga aimed towards younger kids than the more mature audience such as us (lol) as opposed to the volumes where we kno exactly what we are buying, one series and one series only!

But they haven't fixed it yet. Actually, there were more incidents of censorship in the old versions of the volumes (less nipples and whatnot) as opposed to the recent ones.

Censorship is sucks. It limits everyone creativity. Art is unlimited, cannot be bounded by anything. But don't be mistaken by porn and art. They are different! :XD

Perhaps its not to do with the censorship itself but rather who the intended audience is. Maybe Dragonball was marketed to an older audience while Bleach is aimed at a younger lot. Orperhaps they are just serialized in America by different publishers who follow different ideas on what is suitable.

Also I've been wondering. On the japanese tankbon(am i saying that right?), they have this really cool quote across the cover

how come american volumes dont have that?
