yeah pretty much. Zezu trying to take care of them. they're supposed to be the best of the best, but we'll have to wait and see...
Sui's finaly back and it looks like she's either been crying the whole time or not sleeping since her fight with Fallan. it's kinda sad though... i hope she gets over it soon...

raw came out, so no spoilers anymore but I really hope there's going to be some new moving because this is really starting to get boting imo. Move on, k the part with the falzen looks great (but then again, it doesn't show us a lot) and yes a trans/scan can change my mind (but my intuition gives me yet again a negative feeling).
I really hope they are going to move forward because atm I don't like they are getting sticked at the same place (the city) without getting near to their objective: the church. Then again I must admit: I wonder what farran is saying at the last page, seems something about a new location - so my hopes are high :D

A great chapter.
The ways the characters remain perfect.
All previous chapter have given a concrete form of thinking for the couple protagonist. Now, things will move.
I'm glad that my feeling (and others also had this feeling) about what could happen with Sui after losing to Farran was wrong. She continues sensational (Go away shoujo with shonen arts, hehe ^^). As Double Arts is the first series of Naoshi, it's difficult to discern the intentions of some attitudes. But I think now Sui, Elle and Kiri are already taking a solid form. Farran is still a mystery "cliché".
By the way, the news about Double Arts and Akamaru Jumps made me smile. I bet it'll be funny.

Amazing chapter; couldn't be farther from "boring." Really awesome and surprising developments. Also, given Naoshi's refusal to adhere to cliches, I can't wait to see how this "training" will turn out.
The only bad part in all this is how low Double Arts is in the ToC for the next issue... how the hell did it drop to second-from-last?

Reading some of these comments makes me somewhat upset. Reading the manga week by week - though that's the way it has to be - apparently makes people demand a hell of a lot in every single one, with who-knows-how-high expectations.
I've just finished catching up to this one (read 7-17 for the first time yesterday and today) and I am astounded at how unbelievably well-paced this manga is. It's really incredible, and one of the first times I've seen it done so well in a shounen manga (DGM had a similar feel going in the beginning but then the plot went bonkers; in a good way, mind, but it dropped the kind of steady-push plot we have here).
Between character introductions and development, characters coming in and out of the story (I love that Sui only drops by here and there), new villains appearing and old ones plotting stuff, this is simply really, really well-done. There's never too much action/ominous stuff without a break, and the peaceful times never stay completely stress-free themselves. There's this really excellent balance here.
I'm very surprised to read comments that complain about Double Arts getting "slow" or "boring." The only way I can make sense of them is to ascribe them to people's apparently laughably short attention spans, but that seems cruel so I'll blame it on people hating to wait a week between chapters :P
Anyway, I think Double Arts is fantastic. It got a bit over the top with all the dramatic screaming in the battle with Zezu but totally redeemed itself with the second action scene, all beautifully woven into a single amazing chapter. I really liked this story with Hine, too - I didn't find her annoying at all, but funny and charming. Sure, she was too "Mary Sue" to put into the storyline permanently but, again, I'm rather surprised people suspected that Komi Naoshi was actually planning to attach her to Kiri's other hand.
In any case, this is the most promising new manga I've read since DGM (out of those I've followed from the very beginning, that is) - and that one was a whiiiiile ago.
I have to agree with this assertion. In my own experience, many series (i.e. One Piece) get off to a slow start before the ball gets rolling. After rereading the first eighteen chapters, I find the opening arc to be very informative and hopeful that the mangaka will adhere to it. This is what we've seen thus far:
- What is Troi? What is Flare? What is the connection between the two?
- Who are the Gazelles? We have 10 unknown members, unknown plans, & unknown connection to Troi
- Who is the other person who is like Kiri?
- What's the deal with Fallan?
- What's the deal with skipping Kiri's race?
I'm sure I'm missing a few things, but these past eighteen chapters have been very productive. I'm sure people have been griping about the matter with Sister Hine, but I find it unlikely that the mangaka won't expand upon what is beginning to happen to Elle considering her rather "unique" position.
Thus far, I enjoy how this series has been handled (even for the Zezu incident). Furthermore, I like how Kiri/Elle, Sui, and Zezu fight, which will probably be expanded upon to make the fights even more enjoyable. I do believe this series holds potential. What matters above all else is how Double Arts will be handled, which is going to be a grueling task since only 1 chapter is released per week.
Amazing chapter; couldn't be farther from "boring." Really awesome and surprising developments. Also, given Naoshi's refusal to adhere to cliches, I can't wait to see how this "training" will turn out.
Agreed.
The only bad part in all this is how low Double Arts is in the ToC for the next issue... how the hell did it drop to second-from-last?
Doesn't matter. SJ has a tendency of canceling series if popularity remains relatively low for about two years (i.e. Mx0, Busou Renkin). If memory serves me right, DA has had a few chapters which were rated quite well, and there's still the issue of how Volume 1 will sale. I'd only be worried if DA continues this cycle for a while, but I doubt it'll happen. Things such as DA having 1 chapter be 45 pages in addition to several colored pages indicates this series has garnered attention, in Japan at least.
Thus far, the mangaka gives the impression of being competent, so I'm not worried about DA's future for the time being.
well,Im curious bout the persons wearing a cape standing next to zezu...I wonder him/her is the right hand man of zezu(or just his secretary).
I'd imagine they're members who are like Zezu, one of the 11 promiment members of the Gazelles.

I'm still confused when Zezu was touched by Kiri and Zezu turned black or something. It seems as if Zezu or the Gazelle members are the source of Troi. Troi seems to almost be like an anti-Flare.
Heck, I could've misunderstood what was happening in that scene but it seems that Zezu seems to know what Flare is by his facial expression.

Well read the scans and I must say it gets back better than previous chapters. It's cool to see how zezu didn't care about farran being with the kids, he enjoyed it so I do expect very strong and dangerous gazelle. I wonder how farran will react to kiri saying that joining them isn't necessary but training them is enough. Well he certainly remind the words of the futureteller and might he be the person to do the things opposed as what other think and believe :D

Ok, now I am reading Double Arts too ^^
The art is gorgeous! And the story doesn't seem to be too cliche. The disease and sisters and that "hold hands or you die" thing are all original and interesting. Though I don't like the boy very much. He is a good person for sure but he decided to help El too quickly, it looked as if such an easy decision for him, as if he was almost ready for all this. Not that I was expecting him to abandon her, but...oh, it's hard to express in words. It just seemed too rushed. El is a good character. I usually don't like girls like her but recently her decisions and actions made me respect her a lot. I totally love both Sui and Farran (and them togeather^^). Sui is such a bright and cool character. I don't remember being so much impressed with a fighting style for a long long time. And her love for cherries is so cute. I so much hope Farran goes with them after he trains El and Kiri. Recent chapters about sister Heine were brilliant!!!!! They almost brought me to tears. The art was super! And the very last chapter was good, but I think I would rather prefer Kiri and El figure out their fighting style on their own. It was cool too see them plan their combo right on the battlefield. Oh, and just now I've understood what I like so much in this manga- it is when El is commenting the story like from the distant future. And it always seems so sad- almost like implying that something bad will happen. With Kiri maybe...

Actually, cancellations happen much sooner and much more often than that. It takes about eight to ten weeks of a series constantly being at or near the bottom to be offed; series like Mx0 and Busou Renkin got to hang out in the middle for a long time while less popular series took their turns at the chopping block, but finally they ran out of luck too (Mr. Fullswing managed like this for YEARS).
In addition, the color pages, covers, and extra-long chapters are all efforts on the parts of the Jump editors to *make* the series popular; the recent results reflect reader input much more so (which is why the lower placing worries me). There's been a push on Jump's part to create the next hits (Mago, DA, Toriko) and while Mago's seems to have worked, and the series is near the top, DA has dropped. Toriko hasn't been set free to the masses yet.
All that said, it's definitely too early to worry, even if it is a little disconcerting. There should be at least another two months before the next round of cancellations, which gives the series a lot of time to clamber up.
And finally, I'm glad we share our evaluation of the manga's quality :)

I don't know if this is correct to say but DA seems to be too "good natured" for its own good. It's nice having these sentimental stories, but if it doesn't pick up the pace, quite honestly i think it will suffer tremendously. Elle's a goodie two shoes, Kiri's got a sense of justice and quick wit but he's quite weak. In fact, elle seems more like luggage right now--she had better get something to increase her value, and fast. And no, not a boob job.
Naruto got it right--hit action first, then tap into sentimental sob stories. (ninjas are always a plus)

i follow this series as much as i do Naruto and FMA, and to some extent, even more so.. i really hope it doesnt get knocked off. i try to keep the english DA wiki page up to date as often as possible. not to mention keeping up with the posts here and on OM. buti'm glad to see that it'd be a few months b4 anything happens.
but i think most of it was because of Hine being, well...annoying (not my opinion though), and possibly because Sui's being gone for like 3-4 chapters. but that's just a guess... and there hasnt been a major fight since chapter 13
it's such a different series from all the others out there, it doesnt adhear to all the normal cliches of an "adventure" manga, just look at Fallan... a kids meal, with the flag! being forced to hold hands or one will die, a crazy twig that eacts cherries and kicks but, badguys who die in one hit. and that's just a few things that make it unique. and the cliche of Kiri's "chosen one" position, he's got his artistic quirks, ect. ect.
the art is amazing IMO, it's simple yet elegent, and can be quite amuzing (Sui) lol
and of course with Andie showing up soon, Sui finaly back, and training about to begin hopefully the rankings will begin picking back up soon!

I think Shrimpy's exactly right. Double Arts is, in a way, too good for Shounen Jump. Most readers, hungry only for action or whatever, can't appreciate its fantastic pace and characters and storytelling. And as Neji2112 said above, it breaks too many of the conventions to be a hit (even though precisely all these departures from the norm are what make it so amazing and unique to me). It's like the regular Jump reader is too immature or impatient or blind (or all three) to get it.
I felt something like this with Muddy, which had a very quirky, peaceful pace, and a very unique but hilarious sense of humor, and which flopped immediately. With Arts, though, I feel this ten times as strongly. This series is a real gem and I'll lose a lot of my faith in Jump if it ends anytime soon. It's frustrating.
I also don't know if this is really any indication of how tankoubon sales will go, but Arts volume 1 currently has a 2-star (out of 5) rating on www.amazon.co.jp, based on four reviews...

Perhaps the dance is just the basis for their training, to make them synchronize with each other ; like in Evangelion : they trained their synchronization by playing Twister... but of course they never played it during the actual fight ! :amuse It may be the same here, and they'll eventually really learn fighting techniques...
And... was Sui laughing on that pic ? :blink

Dancing makes perfect sense. In dancing, especially two people, there must be coordination and choreography. You also got to learn how to lead, follow, react, adapt and respond accordingly to the situation. Which they will get from learning how to "dance." So if it really is dancing, they could fully utilize flare to their best abilities.

For once, I wouldn't mind seeing a long training arc. Because from what we've seen of Elle and Kiri's fighting, it's clearly going to be unlike any fight style ever seen in a manga. I think it will be REALLY interesting to watch it unfold... and Komi-sensei's done a good job with the pacing so far.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Actually, there have been a lot of foreboding comments in Elle's narration as well about Kiri and his power. I am really interested to see how things will turn out. Especially her comment in chapter one about Kiri being immune to Troy, or at least he was. As seen here: http://img39.onemanga.com/mangas/00000549/000027744/21.jpg. That is one of the quotes that has intrigued me the most.
As for this chapter, I liked it. Sui was great as usual (especially her sneezing on Fallan and running away. I lmao at that). I can't wait to see them using what they learned in actual fight. And also, from Fallan's comments it seems like he will be staying w/them for a while.
Muddy
August 02, 2008, 09:59 PM
I can definitely picture Fallan as more of a long-term companion, but then again this is Naoshi, so you never know. Even if not, he's the type of character to come 'round every once in a while - it's his whole destiny that's intertwined with Kiri's now, after all.
And as for that quote - that's very intriguing indeed. Though the sentence is potentially vague, and could be meant to mean he was like any other boy (as opposed to, was immune to Troi) but we'd need someone who can read the original Japanese to confirm that. It does sound more like your interpretation, though.

Seeing as that's my translation used, I'll handle this one:
I actually went back and grabbed the raw, and judging strictly by grammatical composition, the "was" applies to the subject "completely ordinary boy". the entire thing that comes before it was nothing but a modifier, namely explaining that he was immune to troy.
As my english teacher loved to say, "I saw an elephant walking down the street in pajamas". Who had pajamas? me or the elephant?

I can't wait for the fighting tournament where the competitors will be duo.
Joke aside, I am surprised that the story turns out to be the ordinary shonen with the chapters with talk where things are explained and chapters with fights.
It does not mean I won't be delighted, but I was hoping for a more original story.

i think my comp has had it out for me this chapter.... everytime i tried to view it or download it, something would screw up. but finaly i was able to read it... it was a great chapter. but it seems the dancing is just the preliminary to their actual training. but it makes sence, because dancing is good for that kind of thing and allows for more of a fluid motion. but i'm guessing the dancing stile is probably a European style of dancing possibly ballroom, or something similar to it. but i guess we'll have to see what happens next chapter. though hopefully Andie will arive soon seeing as how they were supposed to arive "tomorrow."

Sui is really great, her spitting on farran has made my day ^^
Anyway, we really need more action here, you know, to lift its rank at the TOC. I mean, we can simply skip the training session, goes to some battles, then give a flashback to show what they have learned. Though, I believe their training session will be interesting though, I wonder what will come up after dancing...

believe it or not, i came to the same idea about 5 days ago ago in another forum...
i dont think that's quite the case with the militaire sisters. from what i understand all sisters have troy, but militaire sisters are either not as immune as the traveling sisters, or they chose that path to fight and to protect their fellow sisters. also, this lack of constanly absorbing of Troy would allow for the militaire sisters to live longer.
so i definitly have to agree with you, as it could deffinitly be a factor for their job.

I just realized something. Lucci Zezu looks an awful lot like Axel from Kingdom Hearts.
Now I can tell some people haven't read my translation threads because you would have seen that I hit Kingdom hearts from day 1.
now before the mods get mad again, back on topic:
From the phrasing of the conversation at the start of ch20, very interesting information is revealed. For one, the 5 of the 11 gazelle are already dead. could this imply they have troy?
Two, the boss (who is a female by kanji, btw) was the subject of the conversation with the hooded "messenger" (as zezu jokingly said). Assuming that the topic of their conversation was the boss, then that would mean this female boss has flare too. But, even more interestingly is the fact revealed that "no human alive in the history of troy has ever been immune to it", meaning that even their boss is not immune.
My theory? The boss has flare AND is infected with Troy.
That's why she has to meet him at all costs...

Another thing, this "messenger" boy (is it a man or a woman?), is he one of the 11 Gazelle, or no? Or is he only, like Zezu said, a messenger? And a messenger for who? Is it possible that he is a messenger for their dead boss? (I believe their boss is dead, and buried there)

Sounds like a pretty sound theory, I'm gonna agree with it. Matches up with what zezu was saying a few chapters ago. I'll also buy into the whole boss being dead thing, or at least the gazelle's original boss. Alternatively, maybe the old boss had flare, and the new boss (female) is lacking it, which explains her interest in kiri.

What's wrong with fights only lasting a chapter? Usually you hear the opposite complaint, that the fights are dragging on.

Imo these short fights are good. Long fights would be meanignless given the stronger opponents they'll get later on: gazelle

Heh. Great fighting style. But still, I think they're just too good... I mean, how the heck could they dodge that wile rain with only dancing? Sure, the double speed and strength from Flare help a lot, but it's not enough to dodge them. They would need reflex, movement reading, positioning, etc etc that's not covered up with either dancing nor Flare!
Also, I know someone might argue semantics on the kana but i thought the attack was "vile rain"...
You should keep on translating then, haha ^^

i like one-chapter battles! Shows that the manga-ka knows what he's doing.XD
Elle was trained to believe that she could never beat a Gazelle in battle and to always run away. But her advantage in the dance training gave her the needed boost of confidence to start taking the lead in attack as well. I wonder if there's something else at work though, some kind of deeper bond that is allowing them to read each other so perfectly... like Legacy said, it may not be be just Flare. How long have they been practicing? Less than a week?

Ahhh actually I don't see Double Arts as a heavily plot-driven, so these things happen ^^ It's more of a fun manga that moving into the story at its own pace, short but precise. I like it that way though :p We don't really have to think too deeply aboutthe plot, the development, etc. Just relax and enjoy the fun manga every week :D
Well, that's just my opinion ^^

I've found the plot to still be there and developing, but it's more quick stabs at the subject matter to propel the story forward at present. i'm sure a bigger continuous arc will follow now we've hit some sorta turning point

Yes, I don't mean it to not have a plot. More like the plot is light and simple, there's no deep/hard plots yet. The manga is actually doing really well for a story driven by a single event per chapter (or just a few) format.
But yeah, so far that's how it is. I'm sure we'll be introduced by heavier twists and turns later in the story.

Sigh...
it is still in the early phase. Double Arts seems like a long story, (may be not One Piece caliber, more of a 300-chaptered series, like Samurai Deeper Kyo, RAVE, etc) so it's still in introductory part. One piece chapter 22 is still about the fight with Buggy. Not to mention DA is a light-hearted series
And, by doing it slowly, it's as if the series will run for a long time in WSJ ^^

August 31, 2008, 02:43 PM
Yeah, if you guys want to know how it is (for those who don't know).
For WSJ, the Japanese readers can send a postcard, voting for their favorite series. And the Table of Contents order reflects this (although for new series, it is only effective after 8 weeks I think). So like DA, you actually have to wait for the 9th chapter and check the ToC of the magazine of that particular issue, for example.
The most popular will start at the top, and the least at the bottom. Double Arts is doing badly in the ToC I think. It's practically last technically second last/third last (or at least it's at the bottom part atm), since Jaguar will always be last in the ToC.
So then: readers' postcards + volume sales + chief editor's decision = whether or not a manga stays or got cancelled.
Maxy Barnard
August 31, 2008, 03:12 PM
The editors seemed to have early faith in it, and early TOC positions and the second cover support a fanbase. But the real way this series is sticking out is having a top ten volume in the taiyosha rankings the week of release. if it achieves that again and again it should keep on going.
Sexy Randal 105

I still think that the author just put it there, because there are so many strong series that he doesn't want it to disrupt the balance of the toc.

There seem to be a lot of new series jostling for attention right now too, and some old series are starting to hit their marks again, so this may just be a temporary drop.
Speaking of rankings... presumably DA's position for the past few weeks might be a reflection on the content of the chapters that were running 6-8 weeks before, anyone remember what those chapters were about? Not saying there was anything wrong with them, just wondering...

this series had kept me intrigued since day one, and things were moving at an awesome pace that wasnt too slow or too fast, Sui always kept thing interesting. but after sui dissapeared for 3 weeks during the Hine story. i think that kind of killed it for the readers, and i had hoped that things would pick up a little faster after Sui returned, and after Falzen, save Andie, was wiped out. but until just now, things are starting to pick back up, i hope Andie arives soon, and that this causes the story to move foreward more quickly.
i seriously hope that this story continues.
it ranked 18th last week, 3 away from the bottom, and 21 being last. on Onemanga, it's rank is 125 of 721 and it climbs at a slow but steady pace.
however, if it does end because of the lack of popularity, it'll probably end in a fassion similar to his one-shot, Island. (or an, "Off to face the thousand year night..." style ending found in Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank.)

it depends, usualy they give the mangaka a few weeks to try to pick the story back up, however, if it doesn't they probably tell the mangaka to go ahead and wrap things up as quickly as possible... then cancel the series or send it off to another magazine, but that's quite rare.

No news so far.... It could be either way.... If another publication wants to get the rights to publish (prolly the rights held by Shueisha will be void when the manga got kicked out from Shueisha) and the mangaka agrees, then yes, we could see the manga in another publication. Although I must say... too early for that, I guess... but who knows...
That.. or it'll just be like that. Cut and nothing else to follow. Honestly, this is the worst thing that could happen but unfortunately, this is what happens most of the time >.<
But DA is still very very young, and it has potential.... Perhaps something will follow.

It's not going to happen. Plenty of good series with potential have just been cut shorts and left at that - granted, few have been as incredible as Double Arts, but there's really no reason to hope for anything more in this vein. Another manga from Komi Naoshi later, yes, but nothing more from the DA world.
So much for your [admit it] dumb theory about DA getting posted like Jaguar, Randal. I didn't want to say anything while the series was still running, but that was less likely than Inumari Dash becoming the next One Piece.
I'm a very bitter Jump reader this year: first Muddy, now DA (and the latter a good deal better). At least there are still amazing manga in the magazine ala One Piece, Reborn, DGM, and Neuro. Gotta keep reminding myself of that. Oh, and Psyren's looking up, but who knows how long that one will last now too... the bottom is falling out under it.

This is sad but we all knew it would happen. DA's style is simply to different to sourvive in a magazine like WSJ (where many mangaka try to create the next one piece or bleach).
Only a few unusual works souvive like Majin Tantei Nogami Neuro, Miyu to Rouji (I know it ended a loong time ago) or Sket Dance and thats most likely due to mere luck than to their outstanding quality.

Komi Naoshi failed to get DA to work well enough to get support for one simple reason: This is his first proper work.
Prior to this he did one shots, and they were due to him being scouted before he'd even finished education IIRC. so he hasn't exactly done any of the normal things, like working as an assisstant to gain more experience. the fact he did this well is quite the testament to his skills eh

Jupp, at the moment both is possible. The only confirmed thing is that DArts mangaka will appear with something in Jump SQ (release date: Novemer, 4th).
DArts got cut off very sudden in the middle of the story built-up, which is unusual. We usually get the warning 2-3 weeks earlier. On the same time it's unlikely that the mangaka changes from one to another series in just a few weeks. So a move to another magazine (also the change from weekly to monthly maybe in request of the mangaka - monthly is preferred by many as you have a better story flow and less pressure) is possible. The excellent rank for the first volume makes it hard to understand why they would cancel it all of a sudden. It obviously sells.
On the other hand - it's WSJ, they do what they want >.>
Maybe a oneshot was planned to be published in Jump SQ anyways, so it's just coincidence. The fact that they say "title unknown" is too weird to hope for DArts - why would they announce to cancel it first and keep the movement a secret? That is a very unusual behavior to promote a series. They should drumroll to make the move known and sell it as something to improve the story quality, not keep silent about it till the last minute. Therefor it would be more likely that we see something different.
So... however you look at it. We run in a circle at the moment ._.

I hope DA stays continued. I enjoyed DA for one of the reasons I enjoy FMA so much - the series possesses unorthodox traits. Or it had something "new". I agree with eni - it's unusual that DA got cut off very sudden in the middle of the story build-up. Also, the announcement came at the very last minute. I know the series wasn't super popular, but the ratings alone wouldn't warrant immediate cancellation especially with how the first volume sold so well. Cancelled series like Busou Renkin, Mx0, and Shaman King (?) ran for a while despite the fact they were never developed a fanbase comparable to series like Naruto, One Piece, and Dragonball.
But then again, this is WSJ...:(

Damn, so there's still no explanation on Gazelle?
Why can't they give him a warning, like Mx0, so he can give a proper ending <_<
They probably have, but we didn't realize it. They can't cut a series without a pre-notice IMO, otherwise, that just plainly inconsiderate.
Personally (I could be wrong), if you see chapter 21 and 22, the story consistency isn't exactly flowing properly. I mean, there's a significant time jump between the training and the fight. Kili was behind Elle in the training, then suddenly they can fight really good, using the "so far he's adapting to my movements" as a link to tie up the jump.
Well, it doesn't really show actually.

What bugs me is that the mangaka just went through the trouble of inventing the new clothes and introducing the villains team properly, so short before it finished. It makes me just hunger for more, what a waste and I really doubt that it was a "last try" since the reader's opinion won't count on these chapters anymore due to the voting delay of a few weeks. It looks like a very sudden decision to me, the time gap you speak off isn't that obvious to me as an indicator for this matter. Other manga have such jumps too.
The "real adventure" is just about to start now and WSJ cuts it off before the readers actually have a chance to even get into it. I don't know what the publishers expect from a newcomer since 20 chapter seem to be already to much for WSJ to built up to the main plot (how did Reborn ever survived the 61 introduction chapters >.>). Which is especially sad when you see that this series is planned for a longer run and as such a slow beginning is to be expected.
From this point of view, new series only have a chance when they start with a bang which isn't a guaranty for quality in every case. The only other explanation I could come up with is that there was a intern dispute with the mangaka.

You see, Reborn didn't survive their 61 introduction chapters. Reborn died, but then revived with the Dying Will. "I'm going to be better than Naruto even if I die!" ....And in my opinion, reborn IS better than every single other manga on shounen jump. DA was close, but now that it's canceled...Well...

Hahaha, good point! And yes, Reborn is definitely one of the best in the magazine, and looking back it's pretty amazing that it survived. It had long stints near the bottom, too.
The only manga I'd say top Reborn are One Piece and HUNTERxHUNTER (when it's around), and Neuro's pretty close in quality. But it certainly dominates everything else.

That's so true. If they could've allowed Reborn to stay and now achieve it's uber-awesomeness, they could've done that for DA. The manga is nowhere ready to end yet. Can't we protest?

I completely forgot about Neuro! Neuro is indeed as awesome. One piece as well...HunterxHunter is good too, but...as you said, only when it's around haha.

That's because people liked reborn for its humor. But they still liked it. Now they like it for its plot/fights.

Hey, look at the bright side. They left the series off on a note that if the series did sell well enough, they always could make a Double Arts 2. This could very easily happen. Especially if they need a new monthly manga for Jump Sq. Just a thought.

i would absolutely love to see a DA "Revisited" sometime down the road and continue the story. although the "ending" is somewhat "revealed" i'll have to see the scanlation to see what i can make of the ending and if he left it open enough to possibly continue, or of course, he could consider this a "false ending" and pick back up right where he left off. which would be astounding IMO.
and with the way he ended the series, it looked like he was still ready to continue the story, but was told to end it when he was still working on it the chapter. or possibly he had already finished the chapter, but because of the cancellation he had to change the chapter after the fight to wrap up the story.
but here's some of the things he left open:
Hine's Painting (though we can guess what it's about...:eyeroll)
Gazelle's identity & purpose
Andie Frau
What sister Martha and what the Sister's HQ looks like
how they find they cure/ antidote to Troy
among other things i cant even think of at the moment

aw, the last chapter made me cry a little bit.
This chapter feels like he wrote it after he learned of the cancellation... he might have done the first few pages beforehand, but definitely there's some fully-intended "let's wrap this up" elements in it. God, I want to cry again now.
Other than that... Elle and Kili are so cuteX3 seems like Kili's been captivated by Elle from the moment he saw her.
but here's some of the things he left open: (snip)

Yes, it looks indeed as if it was canceled on the spot while already working on this chapter. That fits the sudden announcement as well. So we can assume that he didn't get the usual "grace period"... very weird, even for such a few chapter.

Yep after looking into this chapter, it's indeed as if the cancel was suddenly decided. Sadly because things could have worked out very well in DA, great story and characters. But I think the slow pace was really a main part of its killing

:crying That was such a sad chapter. WHYYY?!?! But I suppose this ending was better than getting some bad ending halfway through a major arc.
Koen, I actually think the slow pace was quite beneficial to the series, mainly because it gave the mangaka a chance to fully develop the characters, plot and other factors. But yeah, the slow pace probably worked against it in the axing votes.

I loved the art and the theme the author tried to explore, but the storytelling was wrong (why did they stay in the same city so many days if they are chased?).
The error was maybe to add enemies in the plot. There is already a disease. I really wonder what the Gazelle's motives to help the disease to be propagated (Be the last survivors on earth?).
Although the art was cool, I was not delighted at the combat scenes in chapter 22. The author could have been more creative to make the duo combat more spectacular and undersandable in terms of what they used to beat their opponents.
I am looking forward to the next manga of the author.

It got truncated from the magazine (like Dogashi Kaden, Mx0 and Muddy) :(
Due to low ratings in the weekly WSJ. I'm not sure how well the 1st volume went in sales though, but prolly not as much as Shueisha expected I guess, since they decided to end this abruptly.

Wonderful news!!!
This is the second manga (after Mx0) I was following that got truncated this way. Why doesn't the author publish his drawing online asking for donations in order to make a living out of it? I would contribute for sure because he was doing a very nice job...

It actually got better right at the end where he show Elle writing this story without holding Kili hand. Now if some publisher can continue this, that would be fantastic.

The real issue was that the manga was a slow moving, plot building style, but most of the popular manga's in jump need action almost weekly...

Why should you be glad for something getting cancelled? If you didn't like the manga nobody made you reading it: what's your point in coming in this thread at this time and being an ass? Because you're a useless troll, that's the reason.

Yeah to satisfy the kids there must be a fight in evrey chapter otherwise it would be boring.

Well I must say I am really suprised on how he "ended" it. That guy has really great writing skills imo. I loved how elle was talking about ending this and closing the book: it's as if he was talking towards his fans. Well it's also great to see how we suddenly get to see the part where they met but from someone's other point of view
Well let's see what happens

it sold in the taiyosha top 10 weekls sales on it's debut. but sales don't stave off cancellation. look at blue dragon (though that was shite).
