I chose this image because of the bond between the new prince and Elika in the new prince of persia game. The quote is a line from the beginning and end of the game and it symbolizes how much they cared for each other.

I like both Fuji's and kakashi919. Fuji's is something to think on and Kakashi's is a liitle less abstract but it also make me a little sad I have had some friends who have disappeared from my life (as people do), and in my mind they are still friends but somehow maybe those diamonds are diamonds of ice, they melt away (perhaps in that desert in Fuji's...Hmm I need sleep.)

Any two great entries and a fascinating subject, just seeing those two submission just show how abstract a subject it is and how people will view it in different ways.

Nice entry kakashi919 and a very nice tagline: the friendship and diamant comparison is really good. Yeah, that's why I posted Fuji's description in this thread - making something concrete from something abstract can still remain personal and abstract to another. So the description helped out a lot to express his way to make a sig

@Ay War Horse (and the rest too of course): same over here, I don't label someone fast as a friend but someone I had a good friendship with also disappeared from my life not so long ago. Well he'll remain in my minds since I always have that picture of him on my desk (and in my head). Just to remember him, just thinking about him and yeah that's the diamond friendship is.

Oh my, I never intented to be so personal (that must be because I am emotional). Anyway nice to hear you (all) like the theme. I wasn't sure if some abstract (symbolic) theme, which gives you a lot of freedom and space, would be appreciated

A really nice theme, the moment I saw it I knew what I wanted to make ^.^ but the hardest part was trying to put all my feelings about friendship in a few words... I failed but it still turned out nice regardless.

Well since symbolic ones are always hard to decide and dangerous, I am going to propose a new one, I'll spoiler tag it for those who wouldn't like to know

Astral Project: well I would focus on a certain aspect mainly, Astral projection is experienced as being "out of the body". Okay it's not quite the same but the theme question would: suppose you would get out of your body for one day for what or for who would you want to be out of your body. Compare it like people saying I would like to be a fly for one day

I don't really see how the sexual connotation can be avoided with the way you worded that theme, Koen. Sasori already does a fairly ecchi sig for each contest; could you imagine what type of signature he would post if you gave him that much of an opportunity? :gigglebunny

I know you are, and I only mentioned you in jest. :amuse As long as the signatures submitted are reasonably tame, I wouldn't mind a "pleasure" theme. Some people may interpret in an ecchi manner, while others will think of innocuous things like Koen.

My first entry, hope you like it. Was gonna do Baseball, but I could only find one good stock. Forgot about DA, so I scrapped it. Then I spent a while looking for funky stocks on boxing and tada~ I think it fits the Ippo theme quite well <3 as well as pleasure. As shown by its title. I only wish you guys had a graphics competition and didn't limit it only to signatures. Oh well, I hope you like it.

It has an interesting perspective and color scheme that creates a mood very fitting for the boxing (expressing a sort of darkness that goes well with the brutality yet still shows your passion). I am personally not fond of profanity, but it does add to the mood of the piece. So, again I say that this was very nicely done. :tem

I have never done that sort of thing, but if you need help or tutorials, the scanlators and the moderators (many of whom have been involved with scanlation) are usually very happy to offer advice. In fact, if you search the forums, you will find sections (like MH Academy for example) for you to seek advice from others.

I like the greek mythology about Eros and Psyche. And Psyche means "butterfly" ("soul", too). I just looked for a word that would mean "Psyche" but few people would know the meaning^^ (except for italians XD but at that time, I only talked to brazilians thru net). Anyway, I'd like the nickname "chou", but thanks to Harry Potter, it just became cliche XD OMG, sry for the long story @.@ and the bad english, I'm a little sleepy^^'

kakashi919, I am glad you chose Bleach. When I was imagining manga that might be good for signatures on this theme, Bleach was one of them that came to mind. I was thinking that a Rukia signature was going to appear from whomever chose Bleach, but I am pleasantly surprised to see Soi Fon. The Muhammad Ali line was an especially nice touch. :hb

As for the Bleach one, Soi Fon in facts stings using a butterfly mark and flashes around like a bee(More of a wasp, but that wouldn't fit the opposite-Ali quote, now would it?) So it's quite a nice juxtaposition :)

Ah, also. Could I possibly request that the size limit height be increased as on the submission page, they are stretched which causes loss of quality which could leave a bad impression on people who just glance and view instead of clicking on them to view the image in its proper resolution. Since it's mandatory to put it on Large Thumbnail, it stretches it, my guess is. I also believe that it's quite too small to notice small details which go unnoticed a lot as I post everything I photoshop on various graphic sites, as well the boxing one. And most of the people couldn't make out some of the details which surprised me, but since many of these people couldn't make some of the details out I ruled out the thought of the individual having bad eyesight or w/e. So I would like to promptly request this of you, Mr. Sig-contest-manager, please!

I see. Thank you for the explanation. Soi Fon was and still a welcome surprise. Although her strike marks look like butterflies, I always associate her with hornets and bees first. (I guess I am just very technical like that. :amuse) Thus, I was very surprised by how appropriate and natural it was for Soi Fon to be used for this and by how I completely did not even consider her.

Speedfix, I have a wallpaper of Chikage in that pose. It is a beautiful image, and one of my favorite images that I have seen of Chikage. (There definitely is not enough Sister Princess artwork around here on MH.) I am glad Chikage is making an appearance here. Just curious: did you choose her because she is your favorite sister on that show? She was my favorite, followed closely by Aria. :nod

Another manga-inspired submission, I wasn't thinking about Chouji when I made the topic. Thank you for reminding me of his connection to butterflies, Shin. I always thought when he did the butterfly-inspired power-up against the Sound Four guy, it was very beautiful. In fact, it was really the thing I liked most about Chouji. It is a shame that he didn't even pull out this ace during the Pain invasion. :notrust (For those who don't read Naruto, just ignore the preceding mini rant. :p)

CCS*TRC, your submission is hauntingly beautiful. Seriously, I scrolled down and then couldn't take my eyes off of it for about a minute. :wtf It is very good. You made an excellent choice in your selection of stock image. Do you know the name of the original artist for background image?

I wasn't really sure how you, Gentatsu, would approach this theme. Last contest, you went with a very macho concept, and so I was wondering if you were going to bring that same level of masculinity to your submission this time. This submission is interestingly very feminine, however. I would be interested to hear your thought process behind this submission when selecting the images. (You state in the above post that you just slapped a butterfly on an old sig; so you could discuss the inspiration and process in creating the original signature).

You said that you forgot the origin of the stock image, but do you know the girl in the image (i.e., is she a character from an anime or game)? Also, although the butterfly was just placed onto the image, the butterfly looks amazing and is more emphasized by not blending in with the style of the rest of the piece.

And I've found the original stock on my comp. I suspect it's off Planetrenders, I'll edit my post in the submission thread and put the link there(Uploaded it to my photobucket with its "watermark")

Since the boxing sig was the first one anyone on MH had seen of mine, they might get the impression that I'd add it to all my sigs. But it's quite the opposite, I try a vary of techniques and just go for anything that calls out to me which looks like it'll be nice. My original first few ideas include: A field with the butterfly on a strand of glass in the background and a close up of that covering just less than half of the sig on the right hand side showing the detail; Another idea was a bullet soaring mid-air with the butterfly landing on it; Another idea was just get a character to reach out, beckoning as the butterfly slowly flies away.

Since I couldn't find any decent stocks to go with these ideas, I was forced to use an old sig, which I don't particularly like doing. Why I don't like doing it, is because that sig was made when I didn't know zilch about PS, I didn't know brushes, filters, complimentary colours, swatches, pen tool, elliptical tool, adjustment layers, anything!

Thus, it was during my time when I had little experience in Photoshop and was branching out and just using random things which I thought looked nice. As I said before, I don't use masculinity in all my sigs. My previous sigs contain a vary of styles, although I do prefer male-based sigs as I believe personal movement that stocks contain hold a very big impact on what type of sig and how well it will blend to your chosen style of sig when creating it. This is seen a lot more in male-type stocks rather than women.

Kakashi, careful with those types of sig, they don't look too good if you stretch out the image too far; though, you can't really do that much if it's a small picture, you could try some different adjustment layers, or some effects to create a certain focal point, or add emphasis to a character, etc. It's a good image choice for the theme, btw. ^^

We're not conservative ;), a view on the sea/ocean is part of the beach element too. The last thing I want, is to restrict your creative ideas.

Hm, the ship reminded me a caravel (is that the word?) and so I decided to use a brush with a text that looks old.

'Caravel' is the correct word, and thank you for separating the text. The text definitely gives it that Old World flavor. I think the text is in some Germanic langauge, as I can clearly see umlaut.

@Andrews Good luck with the shortboard and longboard. I've also only tried bodyboarding before with moderate success, but I don't live near a beach and thus rarely have the opportunity to try. Surfing has always seemed really cool though (and dangerous :sweatdrop).

I love how the colors blend together, and the text font, the layout.. the whole sig looks effin madd! I would have voted for this piece if I saw the topic in time. ;_;

I am sorry that you didn't participate in the last contest. It is all about self-expression really. So, anything as long as it was somehow related to the beach would have been allowed, but I admire that you both have such high standards for your art and take these contest so seriously. :hbunny

I'm sorry. I thought this would be a rather easy theme for people. :worrybunny
Like I said in my opening remarks in the contest thread, it is a rather open-ended theme, allowing for a wide range of things. You could do something with characters sleeping and dreaming of something in that sense; you could do something where a character is pursuing his or her dreams (as in aspirations); etc. You could even make the character representative of yourself and explore one of your dreams through your signature.

I hope this gives you some inspiration. :)

Well, technically it does relate to dreams, as the dreams of those characters have come to an end. The way you have done the signature (making it about how death ends one's dreams) makes it fit within the bounds of the theme. It is a very profound signature and concept, and the more I look at it, the more moved I become. I like it a lot.

Is that the final version, or do you plan on adding more to it?
