WOW! what can a guy say to that amazing chapter? a spar with ippo is usually nothing special but this is more thrilling than an actual match. just the fact that Mashiba has acknowledged Ippo's strength and goes full throttle is amazing. same with Ippo.
AND THE EVOLVED DEMPSEY! oh my god people! its to cool to sum up in a few words.
and i like the new thing mori is using for "almost hits" in this spar, where it looks like their clothes shatter. very nice touch Mori, very nice indeed!

Has Ippo come out of any spar on top before?
I think the weight and reach advantage will prove too much for Ippo.
Zaloof
February 25, 2007, 06:58 AM
ippo always sparred with bigger guys at higher level weights, so it wont have that much of trouble
ilovespamusubi

still i think the weight makes a big difference. ippo is the loser by knockout

I think Ricardo Martinez is easily the best boxer in the series. Takamura is one of my favorite characters, but even he was frightened by Martinez's skill. So I have to say he's second.

Even though the awesome Mashiba spar is currently taking place, my mind's still focus on the mystery of Malcolm Gedo. Known as the "Magician," he represents a real mystery as to his real ability. Currently we've been provided several clues and I've taken the time to write down everything significant. I won't put down my thoughts yet, but I'll put down all the relevent information available. Consider the facts and let the challenge of figuring out Gedo's magic before the actual match begins:
Malcolm Gedo
32 matches
22 wins,
15 ko's
6 losses
4 draws
Quote from Fukui (ch-760) **Boxed in a thrown fight**
"Inside the ring with four 6 meters walls, he did something so I couldn't understand his range at all. I tried to use my left to gauge the distance but I couldn't tell if he was too close or far. I fought with my sense of distance distored the entire match."
Coach's comments (ch-761):
A-class Defenses... Incredibly skilled at maneuvering within the ring... constantly moving one way or another. Highly likely he'll drag the fight into the last round. (which is why he is Ippo's worst opponent)
video(ch-761)
Page 6, it appears as if Gedo gets hit.
Page 8, only picture of gedo in his fighting stance.
Itagaki(761)
Possible magic trick theory, "He could put his shoulder into his punches to extend his reach a bit. Or he may use very minute sways and steps to make you think he's further away than he is."
Negotiations for when to fight (ch-263)
When negotiating for time it appears as if Gedo's team wanted the match as quickly possible. They even taunted by asking "who's Makunouchi Ippo?" and the only concern was the amount of money for the fight.
I believe all this information is relavent. I'll post my opinions in a couple days. Feel free to discuss and debate Gedo's style, magic, and how you expect the fight to go down. Feel free to include anything that was learned in the Mashiba spar.

another great chapter! so far no translation is out but it seemed that both ippo and mashiba went all out and they were pretty evenly matched. which tells us that ippo is a whole lot stronger than he used to be, since mashiba is not under any weight control right now as far as we know.
unfortunatly we didnt get to see the end of the spar but hopefully a translation will help us with that. maybe they mention the outcome....
tune in later for more details!

Once again, Takamura vs Hawk... It's obvious^^
But Kimura / Mashiba is close, when you watch the OVA you just get goosebumps :D Damn how come he lost...
Martinez / Date was also one hell of a fight, but Nekota / the American guy is better, Nekota just rocks^^
As for Ippo's fights, in the anime I just love Vorg, almost cried at the end, a beautiful one. Otherwise it would be his match against Sawamura, the only one who was a real opponent.
BUT, the best of the best remains Takamura / the Bear :D And Aoki's Look Away is just too funny too^^

It may very well be Arnie, since his coach was Sakaguchi, the one who despise Miyata and want to crush him ; raising another seed aside from Randy Boy Jr could be part of his plan, and he happened to pick a fight with Ippo in order to quickly gain access to the OPBF in case Randy Boy loses.
Still I believe Morikawa will introduce a completely new character ; after all we've see no good Chinese boxer so far, they all had their ass kicked...

well... the story started with Ippo vs Miyata. so im guessing that it will end that way to.
i have no clue if its possible but i would like to see Ippo with one of the wbo or wbc titles and miyata with the orther one. and then they can slug it out on the biggest stage with the biggest croud and i think it would be awesome.
every boxer thats been in the manga would come watch that im guessing.

As far as pure emotion goes... it has to be Kimura vs Mashiba. Especially seeing as Kimura is my favourite character it made me feel for his loss even more.
For pure awesome it's of course Takamura vs Hawk. The fight has practically everything... except Tekken. But that came shortly after anyway so it's all good.
For everything else you could possibly need? Date vs Martinez. It may not show the entire fight but DAMN what it does show? It'll surley set the stage for later fights in the manga.

I think Ricardo Martinez is easily the best boxer in the series. Takamura is one of my favorite characters, but even he was frightened by Martinez's skill. So I have to say he's second.
Exactly! He called him "a freaking monster" in the Vs Date fight. If Takamura of all people thinks he's a monster then you better believe that's what he is.
And since Morikawa said that alot of things have changed. Well... Takamura is probably pound for pound the best still but Ippo must be ranked alot higher up then 8th now... right? We've got the Dempsy 360 now afterall and while the Infinity Upper may not be able to quite reach larger opponents (as i think is hinted in the Ch766 raw) he can still wear em down with his body blows and just like he did to Mashiba the first time, bring thier jaws down to the point where the Infinity Upper can kill em off.
So yeah. Gotta be higher then 8th now.

Anyway, I really love the intensity of the fights.. I think most sports genre have this attribute. Plus, I'm also learning stuff about boxing I never knew. It's quite possible they're waiting to find a good spot to end the 2nd series anime. There's really only been title defenses for Ippo and his rematch with Miyata hasn't even come yet.
Only Takamura has been winning titles (which were good, but overall he didn't get many battles) but I doubt HnI will end after Ippo and Miyata fight again so they might just be waiting for somewhere to end at again.
After that may be aiming for the World title and then undisputed championship or something.

I don't think they intentionally stopped it; I think they didn't think it'd go for so long so they stopped it at the best possible part, which was Ippo getting the title. If you think about it, there's no better part to stop the anime afterwards.
However, at the rate that the manga is going, I believe that they'll actually start up a 2nd series. That's all I'm sayin'.

I never ever considered the Aokimura fight, but it's true it would be a good match emotionally speaking... Like a little spar after a bad joke from Takamura, both guys are motivated to see who's the best in their best conditions...
And it would be funny to see how Kimura reacts to the Look Away, and how Aoki will counter the Dragon Fish Blow^^
Otherwise, i highly doubt that we will see Hawk in the ring ever again, when Eagle visited him he looked like he was broken down, to my mind he's not (and has never been) a boxer anymore.
As for what I want to see... Any fight with Vorg would be good, especially against Miyata or Mashiba.
But overall I want Ippo to fight against a real opposition, i'm fed up with cannon fodder now... C'mon, apart from Sawamura(and i'm not even sure about it), he has not taken any down since Sanada, that is around the 35th volume... what the fuck...

well... the story started with Ippo vs Miyata. so im guessing that it will end that way to.
i have no clue if its possible but i would like to see Ippo with one of the wbo or wbc titles and miyata with the orther one. and then they can slug it out on the biggest stage with the biggest croud and i think it would be awesome.

Most likely he steps in and out really quickly when he punches, giving the illusion of longer reach. Like all magicians, once you know how the trick works, it's not that impressive. Ippo is going to be challenging the world soon and he's going to show that in this match. Besides which, Ippo's step-in is probably the best of all the characters in this series.
Zaloof
March 30, 2007, 10:50 AM
my money is on his widened stance
Zetta
March 30, 2007, 02:50 PM
Been a while but time's almost here for the fight. Personally, I think it might have something to do with the widened stance; however, I'd rather talk about his fighting style.
I think the way he's going to fight is like how Oscar de la Hoya used to back when he was in the lower weight classes when he was known as the golden boy. He wasn't as aggressive as a boxer back then, and by the 7th to 8th rounds, the oppenent always looked like they were gonna fall over from exhaustion.
That's what I'm anticipating. Gedo seemed eager to get the match started asap. I figure he would want to cut down the ammount of available training time to cut into ippo's endurance. Like Kobashi's fight (except without taking the hits with a cross-arm block), Gedo's gonna cause Ippo to chase after him throughout the ring, always on the move. It'll look like Gedo will be in trouble, but then he'll quickly be able to parry move with stealth and quickness out of the way. Along with that, Gedo will probably attack the body of Ippo. And in the later rounds Ippo should be feeling exausted. At that point that's when Gedo will go for the knock-out. That's what I gather from his record anyway.
Also, anyone else notice how tall gedo was compared to ippo when he helped him stand up? Good thing for the Mashiba spar. Hmm, I wonder if Gedo will try to use uppercuts to stave off ippo as well.... who knows.

2. One Piece
3. Hajime No Ippo
ive reread them so many times ive lost count :nuts
but i wonder if its time for them to continue the HnI anime. i mean the first run was what, 76 episodes long? and that was about 270 chapters of manga.
270/76=3.alotofdigits so thats about 3 chapters to an episode.
and now chapter 767 has been released.
767-270=497 so 497 chapters to make episodes from. no wait! champion road and the other one i cant remember the name. anyways, 2 ova episodes/movies.
they were about 18 chapter each, 18*2=36
497-36=461
461 chapters that has not been animated, and if we use the same formula for about 3 chapters per episode, 461/3=153.alotofsixes
153 episodes is what they could make with the material that is released right now.

- Itagaki has speed, and seeing how Saeki had speed AND the Hitman style, Mashiba can teach him a thing ow two since he is using that style,
- there had already been a story of Ippo's ex-junior fighting him, it can be the same with Itagaki,

well we had fans discussing weather itagaki is gonna leave the gym or not, and we had many hints about that happening, so what do u think :)
I'm seeing that one day Itagaki will switch gym to be with Mashiba since:
- he's one of Mashiba close's buddy now,
- it would get him even closer to Mashiba's sis,
- Itagaki has speed, and seeing how Saeki had speed AND the Hitman style, Mashiba can teach him a thing ow two since he is using that style,
- there had already been a story of Ippo's ex-junior fighting him, it can be the same with Itagaki,
- there might be a love/battle story to fight for Mashiba's sis? lol
discuss :)

I Hope that Itagaki will fight Ippo in the Future...
But let me say that I hope that this future will be very far away. Ippo stands as he is now no chance against Itagaki ( he's to much of a genius ) !!
Also to say that Itagaki got the Baton from Ippo for the Japanese Titel so he will hang a while longer with the others!!
But for the World Titel why not ^_~
Yuzo
April 02, 2007, 11:57 AM
I believe he won't, only because it would mean he has to fight Ippo. And Ippo would beat the shit out of him, he cannot afford to lose any more... It would ruin the momentum Itagaki has. What's more, Itagaki has never wished to fight Big Mara, so I believe such a match would be useless.
My prediction for Itagaki is that he will either move up/down a class and go for the Japanses title (but it's too easy a way out, I think Morikawa will try to avoid this, especially since Mashiba is his "buddy" : they have had lots of spars, a real match is not really needed to gauge their mutual strenght), or he will go for the world rankers right before Ippo.
Now, Itagaki is considered as a genius, and he is likely to feel restricted not being able to conquer a title because of Ippo. But he respects KBG and Ippo too much in order to betray them, so he might start fighting international people, to build his world ranking.
In the process he could even meet Sendo, who wants to do the same^^ It would also be a good way to introduce strong fighters so that they can go against Ippo later (after all, it does not mean a lot of things since Ippo and Itagaki have 2 completely different boxing styles...)

well mostly there will be part of the manga soon were ippo and itagaki spar secretly behind kamogawa, while their sparring the atmosphere heats up and they both fight as it were a real match, kamogawa comes and stops them quickly and start to lecture them both, in itagaki's heart he feels that the light and the man he followed is near, and he wants to go ahead of him, we all saw what itagaki calls ippo that he always will follow him, then he wonders whats after that man, a whole betrayal-surpass climax will start ending a title match between these two where itagaki will be at Toho gym
AestheticHyro
April 02, 2007, 04:42 PM
I'm pretty sure Itagaki has no interest in Kumi Mashiba. All the reasons would be valid but right now, I don't see it happening. The reason is similar to what was stated during the fight between Itagaki and Imai; Imai chose a different gym because he wants to one day fight Ippo. Though Itagaki wants to follow behind Ippo, he gained much more support joining Kamogawa gym. Besides, it's pretty hard to want to leave a gym with a coach like Genji there.
Anyways, it's just my opinion but I don't think they'll use the same plot that already happened. Itagaki's goal has always been Ippo but his rival has always been Imai so to me, he probably won't be leaving Kamogawa until he fights Imai again (possibly for the relinquished Japanese Featherweight Championship). Another reason why I don't think he'll switch is because of the baton pass but then again, that doesn't say much considering Date passed the baton to Ippo.

So far we have:
- Feint with Sakki
- Liver Blow
- Gazzelle Punch
- Dempsey Roll
And maybe we can add his awesome right.
But the point is, sooner or later, he is gonna have a new weapon anyway :amuse
So, considering the size of his small body (which works well for Dempsey) plus his Turtle Strategy & Weaving Movement, the question is:
What would be his next weapon for the world ranking fights? :tem
abu_89
April 04, 2007, 10:49 PM
It's going to be a variation of the body shot. His biggest weakness right now is probably long range fighters with fast jabs so I'm thinking it's going to be something with an immensely fast step-in and lots of power. He might learn a defensive technique that lets him parry more often too.
gensou
April 05, 2007, 12:18 AM
i say super dempsey roll, with add on dash.
Yuzo
April 05, 2007, 10:42 AM
If he were to get a new weapon, I'd say it would be like the preparation for the Dragon Fish blow, something that enables him to enter his range easily against taller outboxers...
But what he will need the most is a somewhat defensive technique, because he SUCKS against boxers with good legs... But his style is very offensive, so maybe a Dempsey Roll-like thing, half-defensive and half-offensive, that would be the best possible technique to get... Very unlikely, though.

Also think it showed how he "stretches his arm". Okay, so he was shot right? And he said he was poor, so the likelihood of getting good medical attention was low at best. He probably got the bullets removed, but the bones weren't properly set. At worse I would imagine his shoulderblade was split or possibly even shattered, thus meaning the limitation that the shoulderblade puts on the reach of someone's arm would be negated. Also, since he's most likey a righty, and he was shot in his left shoulder, he uses his left arm to jab. Those quick shots are how one gages distance of your opponent, right? A quick, long shot would throw off your whole game.

so u mean his reach was artificially modified by accident in the treatment, u could be right since the wound is in his left shoulder, and yes the left is the arm to control distance

so u mean his reach was artificially modified by accident in the treatment, u could be right since the wound is in his left shoulder, and yes the left is the arm to control distanceNot so much an accident in the treatment but a byproduct of improper treatment. Let's say he had enough money to go to a proper hospital and recieve proper treatment. Getting X-Rays the doctors would have noticed the fractures in his shoulderblade, and taken steps to fix it. Since he didn't have said money, he probably just had the bullets removed, and accounted for the initial pain in his shoulder as a result of being shot (makes sense). Over time he realized he could extend his arm to unnatural distances and tried to figure out a way to make money with this talent. He may or may not have realized why he could do it.

I've only reached the part where Itagaki has just been introduced and the first thing that already struck me was if he's in the same class as Ippo, wouldn't there be a conflict of interest if he wants to move up?
It seems to me that the difference in strength between Itagaki (before he debuts) and Ippo (Jap Champ) is smaller than between Ippo (a Rookie King) and Date (Jap Champ)

Could be a cimbination of highly advanced parries and weaving, quick footwork. Minimal effort expended, tire out the opponent.
There's a guy at my gym (owner, actually) and frustrating as heck to be in the ring with - can't touch him. Keep missing by centimeters, and the way he moves? He's never where your punches (or kicks) are. He does this one parry for a leg kick that ends up spinning the kicker around and setting them on their butt, while he's standing there with a "what? that's all you got?" grin on his face -__-; He's so fast . . . you never quite see what's happening.

parrying is easy and requires high concentration, but also requires touching your opponent,
if it was that easy i bet the coach would noticed that

It seems like the crew was in the position to tell him their discovery of RBJr's identity... maybe smoothing over relations with the Miyata's, but then all of a sudden Kamogawa got arrested..
I don't think they ever got around to telling him about what they found out..
What do you guys think? Will they tell him a few months before Miyata's match? That might work out for the best because he could help them with their final prep. He's going to want to get in on this, as Miyata Sr. was his prized fighter back in the day and probably won't want history to repeat itself.

I don't think it really matters... Even if he would like to help them, he will never contact them, he's too proud to forgive them for what they did to Ippo...
He may care about Miyata, but he cares more about Ippo, that's a sure thing. He cut off links with a guy he has known for years just because the fight was cancelled !!
The only way to actually help would be to send Yagi to deliver a message or something, but it would be pointless, Miyata Sr knows his job, I can't see how Kamogawa could help on this one...
But as far as I'm concerned, he has still not been told (even though I have a feeling he remembered RBJ's face some time after he first saw him, and already knows somehow...)

two things might happen Martinez kills miyata in the ring or miyata dies from heat stroke(excessive weight loss) before the fight with martinez. I see miyata dying from heat stroke a lot more likely with his excessive and dangerous way of losing weight.
i say the story ends with Ippo fighting Martinez. Ippo winning for his dead friend , Miyata . at the end of the fight he finds out what it means to be strong.

two things might happen Martinez kills miyata in the ring or miyata dies from heat stroke(excessive weight loss) before the fight with martinez. I see miyata dying from heat stroke a lot more likely with his excessive and dangerous way of losing weight.
i say the story ends with Ippo fighting Martinez. Ippo winning for his dead friend , Miyata . at the end of the fight he finds out what it means to be strong.
miyata is about to fight what looks like his last featherweight bout against that ambidextrous guy so he'll never get a shot at martinez, ippo v. martinez will definately be coming soon but I think the last fight will be a rematch of vorg and sendo for the #1 contender to fight ippo and then the manga will end...

hi, just joined big HnI fan, favourite anime and current favourite manga.
Sendo rocks like no other but Miyata close behind, no one can touch Taamura cuz he's god for kicking the lilttle kids before the David Eagle fight.
the manga needs more Sendo (Hajime no Sendo :p , title would makes no sense but oh well)
that is all for now.

i think the series will end with a major championship tournament.
Miyata wins his fight against the intern champ and moves on to the first rank of WBA. meanwhile Ippo keeps on defeating national champions and becomes 2nd rank. they have there fight at long last for the OPBF title. Ippo wins(of course) and starts getting ready for the championship carnaval where he'll fight Martinez. after the defeat Miyata moves up to lightweight so he doesn't have to do as much weight control anymore and also quickly becomes the 1st rank.
in the meantime, Vorg has become the world champ in the junior lightweight and Mashiba has moves up to be the 1st rank.
so i think the series final will be a giant championship carnaval with Takamura getting his 6th title, Mashiba and Vorg fighting it out over the junior lightweight belt, Miyata(easily) becoming world champ of the lightweights and at the real finnals, the Ippo VS Martinez fight, with Ippo winning. maybe afterwards he'll finally get to ask Kumi out too.
oh, and somewhere along the way, Itagaki will probably become the Japanese champ in Ippo's place.

Ippo and Miyata have their fight finally, Miyata wins and moves up one weight-class to take on Vorg for one of the other world titles, Vorg wins, oh no for Miyata he's heart-broken but Miyata becomes the other world champion, Mashiba get to be OBPF champion then will move up to take on Vorg where Vorg wins again after the new Wolf Fang is shown (4 hits :p )
Sendo is new the OPBF champion after Miyata dropped the belt, Sendo challenges Martinez way too early and like Date got his ass kicked (sadly).
Ippo after suffering his 2nd defeat, takes another long break from Boxing, watches Sendo fight Martinez and is shocked by the level once again. as a new stepping stone he gets the world title belt that Martinez doesn't have, will challenge Martinez in time but thats for the end, where Ippo pulls off the biggest upset ever or is killed in the ring.
Takamura is forced to retire after getting his 5th title and falls short of 6th belt, Aoki and Kimura pay in the end like always.
Itagaki and Hammer Nao fight over the Japanese Title after Ippo finally drops it, the battle of the two kouhai's. (This is my personally 100% percent chance bet of happening, bank on it)

I don't think its Arnie because of the hair looks different, I don't know who it could be.
With Jimmy didn't we see enough of Miyata's old opponents for now? I say yes. Lets Arnie return later.

Kickboxing is my sport - though I'm not terribly good at it.
Reading Ippo has actually helped me with several aspects, from guard to parry to shifting. ^_^
I'll hold to the parry option though, because I've seen someone in total control work it; fantastic.
im in T.O.J, its kind of a kung-fu that manipulates distance
sh*t, spaming again :p

AnJ is the first boxing manga that been created, morikawa referenced a lot of his work for HnI, like the invincible champion ricardo martinez was in AnJ Jose mendoza, and also Sendo was a more of a copy to the hero of AnJ, Joe Yabuki, there's a lot of similarities that will take forever if i mentioned it now

Well Myata and Ippo will never fight, because Myata will only made another fight as a feather weight, and in the end i think Sendo will lose to Martinez, and Ippo will win against Martinez and will ask Kumi out, and the final chapter will be Ippo preparing for is first world tittle defense, and the last page will be Sendo and Ippo in the ring with all the other characters watching it. I think he will step in the ring with Sendo once again becuse, Mori Sensei as teeling us during the manga that Sendo and Ippo are fated to meet in the ring once again.
