Thank you so much for posting the raw!!! You guys are awesome and thank you for all the hard work! The chapter was very interesting, I think FMA is one of the top-notch manga ever.
I wish I or somebody else would interview Arakawa sensei how she personally feel about the series, being that this was her first major series. I mean how can it be that this is her first major series and yet it seems to surpass and leaves some of the other mangas pale in comparison? It seems to me the level of her engagement is close to Tezuka Osamu. The messages embedded in her manga are always positive, kind of anti-nihilistic, anti-war, quite different from the impression I get from some other recent mangas (meaningless violence and battles for "causes" and "revenges"; themes about "the world is boring to death" "my life is meaningless" all within the attempt to be, under my impression, "cool" in its very superficial formulation -- there is no respect for life in this kind of "cool" and this notion is entirely different from the theme of "cool" born out of civil rights struggle like in American jazz throughout the history of 20c. The abuse of creepy suspense-violence in recent mangas almost an abuse of the idea of the "cool" to me).
I mean there are some other recent mangas that I enjoy like Urasawa Naoki and others (Hikaru no Go was good too, and of course older, but Miyazaki Hayao's Nausicaa) but no other recent manga touches my heart like FMA. Especially v.15 seems to reveal in my mind Arakawa sensei's understanding of war. Her whole embedded themes against wars, murders, discrimination against minorities, and nation-states, etc. overlaps in my head with the problematic history of amnesia in the postwar Japan (of its war crimes). She is from Hokkaido and the area has larger concentration of Ainu minorities. Although this topic is so political in Japan in the past several years that I'm not sure if she will ever reveal her stance to it too clearly (if she has one -- and I have to admit that all of this doesn't go beyond my speculation) lest her career may be jeopardized. Once I posted my view on this on a Japanese site and I was kind of flamed, as if I'm saying things against her honor!
I'm hungry for good mangas, if you anyone has recommendations please send them to me. :)
Oh, prediction of chapter 79 -- I'm not sure, but I haven't seen my favorite Colonel Mustang for about four months now, am I correct?, and I hope to see him very soon! I also wonder what's up with sister Armstrong .
Anyhow I thank you for the great works keeping up with the FMA. Thank you so much!

it seems to me that FMA, sadly, is coming to a close. with the homunculus moving in and sloth finishing the tunnel, the final stage is set. but i expect to see some great envy action but i do admit i am very curious as to what "Slave #23" has planned. i hope she reveals more! and i do expect we shall see something regarding Eds whereabouts and condition.

i actually thought this chapter was a little boring...im not sure why...although the confrontation between Hoenheim and Pride was pretty cool...im not quite sure whats gonna happen next...

I think that latest chapters are really interesting. We found out who Hohenheim, Father and Pride are... there is Scar and other characters I like... I hope that in chapter 79 there will be more about Ed ^^
Sorry, but I've got a question: how often do the chapters come out? Once a month or more often?

i agree. i hope the next chapter has more ed, but next time i think we will be dealing more with the homunculi. i suck at predicting, though, so who knows :p
and yes, the chapters come out once a month. i seem to find the scans somewhere around the 10-15th-ish each month. once i caught up with the manga i found waiting an entire month for a new chapter to be agony, but it is always worth the wait :)

yea, from the looks of everything it looks like its full on towards the homunculi. tho will it be just fights or some of there origins who knows, but i wanna see all get his body back already!!! if i was ed tho i wouldnt want my arm or leg back! AUTOMAIL ROCKS!!!
and yes, it is quite painful to wait a whole month for one 36 pg chapter, wonder why there not 44 pgs like usual...

Well, in an interview, the mangaka said that she wouldn't drag out the ending...she said that she would actually finish it quickly and hopefully on a happy note...right now it's kind of dragging along so I don't think it's near the end quite yet. Check out the interview...its in the project section of www.zomgfta.com

FMA is not near the end just yet, all of the homs need to be dealed with (consider how many chapters thats going to be alone), then Father, explanations behind everything etc. Arakawa will finish it all up quickly when it happens but if its within the next two volumes it'll be far too rushed from where we stand right now.
As for 79, the focus will be on Ed and end with the homs attacking everyone.

I'm dying to see what Mustang is going to do with the info on Selim that Hawkeye gave him, and also the info he's getting from the Armstrongs through the flower lady, so hopefully he'll get at least a few pages this chapter. I'm sure the focus is going to be back on Ed though. I doubt we'll see Hoenheim again for a while, or at least not until his role is made more clear.

In the end I think all seven of the sins are going to form back into one body. I know it sounds weird but I've been thinking about this a bunch, and it seems logical. All of the poetry and texts pointing toward and about Alchemy have all said such things. (Not referring to just Fullmetal Alchemist either)
I say this also because Father is trying to form another transmutation circle and what else could he possible want? What would be the use of more philosopher's stone when he already is the most immortal character life wise/alchemy?
Just thought it would be kind of interesting to sort this out of my brain. Its been stuck there for some time. ^^

great chapter! too bad it's another short one at only 32 pages :notrust oh well, it was a very exciting one anyway. the death of envy was pretty awesome (marcoh was such a badass) and it seems we also got to see arakawa's version of "one thousand years of pain" (http://www.onemanga.com/Full_Metal_Alchemist/79/14/) :rofl
as far as predictions go for next chapter, i really hope we are back to see what's up with ed :)

Technically he hasnt died yet. He just turned into this puny embryo thingie. See, he is still screaming vanities at the 'humans' :P
And no Ed this month :( but go Marco!! Hope he's ok.. he doesn't look like he'll live long, especially with Scar's what-sounds-like-the-end-comforting words to him in the end O_o
I'd say they'll be another 10 chapters left before the end? Maybe she's aiming for the 100th chapter being the last chapter :D bwhaha <3

With Envy dead now (he got one hell of a quick death), I guess it'll only be a matter of time before the other Homonculi are finished as well. It's the beginning of the end for FMA.

wow wat a chapter.... so two homunculus die? and how many to go now?? greed, glutton, pride, wrath? lust and envy lost so they are out.. at the end of chapter 78 i really thought he was betraying them... wow.. they really have change.. it is awesome.. man.. can't wait for wat happened next now.. but yea it really coming to an end it not that i mind cause this manga has been awesome and closing at the right time would be better than to drag it out like most manga.
it funny to see a naruto scene there.. hahah loving it..

Same, that was brilliant.
Did anyone else think as Scar was standing over Marcoh "Please don't put that in his mouth." He just looked so contemplative.
Also, I'm quite sad to see Envy go, he was certainly the most amusing Homunculi but heck, it was great to see him go still screaming at them. I want to get back to Ed next chapter as well though, can't wait for the next one.

January 15, 2008, 03:54 PM
wow wat a chapter.... so two homunculus die? and how many to go now?? greed, glutton, pride, wrath? lust and envy lost so they are out..
Lust was killed by Mustang. Greed was killed by Father, but Ling became the new Greed (unlike Lust's, his Philosopher Stone was intact). Gluttony was killed by Scar (the Stone was recovered by Father, though). Now Envy was killed by Marcoh (and it's a safe bet his Stone won't be recovered) - okay, didn't die yet, but I'm sure Scar will step on him next chapter. Alive are Greed 2.0, Wrath, Sloth and Pride. There may yet be a new Gluttony too. Oh, and Father.
Anyway, now that I think of it, it was kind of anti-climatic for Envy. With Scar around, he died by Marcoh's hand. True, Marcoh's existance was tragic, and he deserved that moment of redemption (especially if it was his final moment, as he appears to have died), but this is the Homunculus that killed Maes Hughes. I wanted to see him avenged. Oh, well, the bastard got what was coming to him, so it's alright, I guess.
Hehehe, the trap in the bottom middle panel of page 14 is Kakashi's 'A Thousand Years of Pain' ass-poking move from Naruto.
True. It was brilliant. :D

The focus has been on Al, Mei, Scar and that gang for a while now, so I think the next chapter will either tell us what Ed's been getting upto, or (hopefully) switch back to Central and show us what's going on with Riza vs. Pride, Roy, and how Olivier's coping. Arakawa might choose to show us the true end of Envy though... thoguh I'm not sure on that one. I think Scar wants to get rid of Envy, but Al might come out with something like "Envy can help us" or something.
Personally, I really want to find out what's going on in Central. And while FMA may be wrapping up, there's still a lot left to do. We haven't seen top or tail of Ran Fan, Fu and Maria Ross, and I'm sure that they'll be brought back before the end. Plus, there's still Pride, Wrath, Sloth, Greed 2.0, Gluttony's philosophers stone and the Envy foetus to deal with. And it's not going to be rushed.
And on the note of the short chapters, is Arakawa not doing Juushon Enbu as well now? 10 pages of FMA each month + a few more all nighters = Juushin Enbu every two months. If Arakawa's doing Juushin Enbu as well, she probably is thinking of the end of FMA, and probably has it all planned out; sitting at her desk thinking of the reactions we Fan's will have.

I felt Envy's departure was somewhat anti-climactic. He's certainly been the homunculus who's caused the most trouble for our heroes, so I would have expected something different.
But Marcoh was awesome doing it. Envy really got what he deserved.
Kimbley blowing up the Drachman General was good as well.
Does this mean that the /blood soaked crest has been carved into Briggs now? Are Fathers plans for Amestris finally ready to go? (That is if he has the human sacrifices ready...)

Alright, if y'all haven't heard, the deaths of the homunculus so far have been pretty consistent with the punishments they are supposed to receive according to the bible. Envy's death is a little bit of a stretch but, in my opinion, still consistent. Voice your opinion here. (http://mangahelpers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4578)

Wow, this is what I was talking about in the last thread. Arakawa said that once she started to approach the end, she would move quickly towards it and not drag it out. Envy was finished quickly, so I believe that we have proof of the end of the series...
It will be most interesting to see how she ties all the loose ends up in a little bit of time, but maybe that will be good.

February 05, 2008, 05:37 PM
I think we will see what happens to the small fetus-like creature that is Envy. Hopefully we will also be able to take a peek at what's up with Ed...
I think the final plot will more fully unfold also. You can feel that she is already bring the story to an end, so we will probably see the story start to get on that path.

I think it would be good to switch to Ed next chapter, he's been out of the loop for a while. I think there are many people who would just say get rid of Envy since he shot the girl who started the Civil War and I'd have to agree.

February 07, 2008, 11:25 AM
Yap. But after the ordeal with Envy, that was just a lot of action with one group of characters...and that was a pretty major event so...
I think yeah, they will loop back to Ed. They might wrap up the envy part, but I'm sure we'll either loop back to Ed, ooooor! go to Roy and Riza (which would be fantastic...).
Lycoris
February 08, 2008, 06:01 AM
I think it's possible that they show the end of Envy in 80 and then go back to Ed towards the end of the chapter.
I've forgotten why Roy and Riza are...that's not good...Ah, now I remeber, yes that would be great.

Well this certainly was interesting.
There was load of brilliant stuff in this chapter. Even though it wasn't really action packed or very long, there were plenty of revelations and shocks.
The decision to send Mei back to Xing was a sudden one - is it possible that Scar knows something more, like if Envy does go back to Central it will be very easy for Scar to revitalise him?
Olivier was awesome as usual. What was up with the "personal army" thing? That was fraky. I hope Arakawa goes into more depth on that next chapter.
Interesting also that Bradley chose his own wife. I wonder if there was any reasoning behind this, and whether he does actually care for her. Look forward to more development on this as well.
And I loved that last page when Hoho appeared and Al and Winry were like o_O.
Yun Min
February 11, 2008, 02:42 PM
I reckon that the next chapter might be more about this personal army revelation. It's a big thing, and I think it also brings a lot of depth. I wonder if Olivier will choose to deisclose this information to Mustang?
I think we might also be back in Liore and see what's happening with Rose/Hoho/Al/Winry. It was the end of the chapter - I think there might be more on that.
Over the last few pages Arakawa's usually prone to shock us with something newish, but not completely unexpected - what Ed's been up to wouldn't be out of place. It would be good to know that he's actually okay.

I never expected Simulacra! (The faceless beasts/ hidden army: Creatures created in vats and are born without any facial features, and supposedly walk weird because of their lack of a complete physical form. Wikipedia might explains better) >.>
I was hoping Arakawa-san would put them in her story and I got my wish! -claps-
One prediction is: Hohenheim will fill Alphonse in about the shadow self of him and maybe show him a way to surpass father's alchemy.
(Still no Edward, Arakawa-san sure knows how to keep suspense on his well being)

yes.....very interesting, indeed. either he does actually care for her or there is some other reason she was chosen :amuse
well, it seems as if envy is still with us after all :darn since many felt his "demise" a bit sudden and anti-climactic, perhaps it's better that envy is not dead after all. i'm betting we will see a fully-restored envy somewhere down the line.

February 13, 2008, 05:09 PM
yes, we have seen very many sotries developing at once in this chapter... i hope we don't get stuck in only one fight for the next chapters...
what i thought interesting was envy, almost like that Father when he was in a flask teaching Hoho alchemy. I thought Mei would be more resistant :-P but i think there's something else behind this, like when scar told her to go to xing, and everything else.
But, whatever, Youswell is now again the center of attentions!!! ^_^
Lycoris
February 13, 2008, 06:11 PM
More Liore, definetely. I don't think Arakawa would put in a cliff hanger like that and then not bother to do anything including it in the next chapter.
Not sure about what Al will say though, it's going to be a little tense between everyone I think.
Lycoris
February 14, 2008, 03:20 PM
It's certainly nice to see Youswell and Liore, places from really early on in the manga being linked back into the story and not being forgotten by Arakawa.
I didn't actually expect Mei to be that resistant thiagojoe, she already didn't want to leave because she felt she had to help them so it was very easy for Envy to persuade her. Considering Xing hasn't actually been linked into the story that much, making Mei go back would be hard in terms of coming up with some new places to visit and realistically, I think Mei would have chosen to go back even without Envy's persuasion eventually. She's the sort of character who won't leave her friends behind.
thiagojoe
February 14, 2008, 04:15 PM
about mei, that's a good point lycoris... i hope she doesn't fall for envy's trick though.
and seeing these old places again make me think arakawa sure has a great creativity to link things from the past and the present.

Hey guys, I know this is slightly off-topic but I was hoping that someone may be able to offer some insight into this mystery I've discovered.
We all know what Envy looks like as of the end of chapter 79. Well, I was reading Neon Genesis Evangelion (yes, I know... a really old series, but it's good), and I happened across >>this image (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y86/Bandit_Queen/scans/NGE-adam.jpg)<<
The similarity to Envy's true form without the Philosopher's Stone is UNCANNY. Does anyone know whether Arakawa may be paying some sort of homage to NGE... or is it all just a huge coincidence???
I am SO curious.
Thanks! ^^

That's true. I've not been keeping up to date with FMA for long but I've never seen single spoiler pictures, just a RAW and a translation.
Seriously? A flat in Shibuya without noise?
Please let Envy be squished, he's my favourite homonculi other than Pride and Greed but I don't want this to be dragged out. Maybe Mei will be clever and realise that she should squish him and that getting her clan in the Emporer's favour is maybe slightly less important than letting these people kill a whole country and move on to the next.

Im with the theory that Mei knows what she's doing and its just to get one over on the Homunculi.
I think it would be better if Envy was to die in a more ironic way though. I don't know what would really classify as ironic enough but still.

I just remembered - isn't Ling/Greed still in Central? We all know there's more than a little animosity between Greed and Envy dating back to before even the Devil's Nest arc. And out of the chimera the first Greed had with him, only that lizard guy (Guido? Can't recall his name) is still around; we last saw him hanging on to the undercarriage of that military car when the MPs came looking for Izumi.
Like just about everyone else here, I want fetus!Envy snuffed out. I just hope Ling has a hand in it - we haven't really seen him for a while, other than meeting Pride and snarking at Wrath.

Maybe Mei will use Envy as a bargaining device for more of the Philosopher's Stone? Or a not 'almost dead' one anyway.
I also noticed that Fullmetal has been gone a whole volume of manga worth of time. Pretty smart idea for the people who don't read manga online. =p
Maybe Ed won't come back into it until more of the loose ends are tied up. Then he will return for the final leg of the story.

Maybe Ed won't come back into it until more of the loose ends are tied up. Then he will return for the final leg of the story.
I think it would be a little longer then ten days for Fullmetal to heal from the wound he got. But we could have some sort of time skip. (hopefully not) Judging by some pictures I've seen he is not dead and his overall return won't be super dramatic.

Wow really? I've seen spoilers on several sites...this is actually the first time I've used Manga Helpers for fma (www.zomgfta.com lover...). Usually here for naruto and bleach. But I think i was just used to spoilers :D
But now that zomgfta is dead and gone, I'm addicted to mh...:D
Yeah, prediction wise, I really hope to see more of the situation at central or ed's side...
Go get some of TMI's back issues...I guarantee they'll replace zomg in your collection :)

So...
Chapter 81
Caption: Unexpected reunion at an unexpected place!! The father's first word is...?
Despite their reunion they do no have much to say, and Hohenheim is needed for helping with chores, so he heads back.
Hohenheim: "I'm sure I don't have his trust as a father, and I don't know what to say to him."
Al apologizes to the town's people that by Al and Ed exposing the fraud of their religious leader it ended up inviting larger trouble to the town.
The town's people respond by saying Al and Ed did the right thing.
With that, Al follows Hohenheim to help with chores also.
Yoki, and the Chimera solders follow Al also.
Rose is asked by Al to shelter Winry in some hidden safe place.
Rose takes Winry, and Rose offer Winry to wash up first.
Rose and Winry have a friendly talk about Ed.
Rose: "We are no longer relying on 'Mircle,' and instead trying to regain our footings on our own. " "If we stayed the course and kept following our false religious leader, we might have had tuned into the part of their so-called "solders who would not fear death...."
(The pic of rows of "Immortal Army" hanging upside down over-wraps Rose's words.)
Elsewhere, in the Central, the scene is the continuation from the last chapter, with Major General Armstrong and Lieutenant General carrying on the conversation by the rows of upside down Immortal Army."
We are going to attach souls to these vessels with the shape of human bodies, and create an army of solders who do not fear own death.
The needed souls will be harvested from people who are killed in the war.
The battle fields will turn to our hunting ground to obtain large number of souls.... Lieutenant General continues his talk to Major General Armstrong.
Elsewhere....
Izumi is still on her trip. The Army hasn't found her yet. The Central Army continues the search for her.
Central, underground...
Bido, the lizard chimera is there, getting lost, and being chased by the chimeras who are guarding the place.
Bido ends up among those upside down vessels of "Immortal Army."
There is Greed....
Back to Reole.
Al and Hohenheim are talking. Al tells Hohenheim that the reason he wanted to check Reole was to search for the underground tunnel there, and tells him about informations he obtained so far, about "Father (not ho-ho but Homunculus)" and the nation-wide Transmutation Circle.
After hearing Al, Hohenheim asks Al: "What if I turned out to be someone on your enemy side?"
Hohenheim sees Al's expression that's showing that that thought has never occurred to AL.
Hohenheim to Al: "Thank you, for trusting me." And Hohenheim decides to tell everything to Al.
He also wants to tell to Ed, but Al tells Hohenheim that Ed is missing.
Some town, somewhere....
One of the chimera solders who helped Ed and then turned to Ed's side is withdrawing the allocated research funds to the State Alchemist at the bank. That alerted the military, and the solders from the military head to the town's hospital where Ed is staying.
The solders are just about to raid the hospital when Ed comes back from shopping. He sees the solders, and he plays "innocent" and asks the look out solders what kind of person they are going after, and the solder answers that they are looking for a "shorty." And hearing that Ed explodes and knocks out all the solders.
Chimera guy tells Ed that he should take it easy, as he is still recovering from the injury.
For that Ed answers: "I'm already recovered and in a top shape, with full of energy!!"

This time I think the homonculus would need to be a bit more careful in who they choose to be the host for a new envy
Can they make a new Envy? I think that the only reason that they could make a new Greed is because they melted down the old one (or whatever they did to him) and reformed him... They haven't made a new Lust yet because she wasn't melted down, she was just destroyed, so they couldn't reform her. At least that's what I think.
PS: First post on MangaHelpers... Hello to everyone.

Another awesome chapter as per usual. I'm shocked more people don't read this, I guess they just want to see more action based manga.
And I lol'ed at "MY VINTAGE ARMOUR" from hohenheim. He cracks me up. And it had some rare fanservice for once (winry bathing + ed's return). Good to see hohenheim chat to Al for once too ^^

I laughed so hard at the vintage armour comment. This is his son that he hasn't seen in 10 years and that's his first comment. Then again, one of the first things he said to Ed was that they had the same hairstyle so it's to be expected by now, isn't it?
I'm not complaining about the Ed fanservice. Which is another point, Ed's finally back! Hurry up and go to Liore Ed, everything will become good that way!

awsome chapter!!!
the vintege armour was lol, ed coming back in such a mysterious menner great, al/hoho chat was great, ling/greed reappearing and the dummy bodies army at central, all i missed was roy - but he'll sure appear the next issues anyway...
i also think fma great, this chapter has a little of everything: laughs, revelations, mystery, drama, some action and a lot of side stories!!! GREAT!!!

the return of both ed and ling? :nuts
rose/winry's conversation about winry being their savior's savior and building the leg that supports ed was kind of cheesy, but sweet. it's nice to know that the people of lior are actually thankful for ed and al exposing the truth about cornello (as opposed to the anime).
overall, nice chapter :)

March 18, 2008, 08:48 AM
Actually, I have a very low tolerance for cheesiness, and yet I found that part freaking awesome...then again, I wasn't look at it from the EdxWinry point of view (even if I whole heartedly believe in it...). I thought it was cool because Winry has always been strong-willed, but often times the victim of a lot of emotional pain.
I think that Rose saying that was good to build up the importance of Winry's role in this manga; that she was the one who gave our protagonist the chance to stand back up on his feet and fix what he had wrought. I think it was good to give us that reminder.
Ling, oh Ling...And the fact that Greed ran into his old minion....I wonder if any part of him will remember him or take a liking to him again.
Actually, when I saw them see each other, I thought, 'He's going to leave 'Father' again...it's in his nature.' Something told me that if that guy talks to him, he'll pretend to be the old greed, hear about what he had been attempting, and start plotting against Father for his own means.
But, it's just an idea... :D
birmymichelle
March 18, 2008, 09:22 AM
So, anyone think that Greed will betray Father yet again? I don't think Greed would ever do anything really strenuous for Father, and obviously Ling isn't cool with it. I think Greed is going to find something he wants outside of Father's plans and then turn on him.

i didn't watch the anime, but i believe it would be natural that, as time goes by, people would be grateful to them as saviour or sth; it's just that, right after exposing cornello, people were used to his (cornello's) truth, and it was kind of difficult to accept ed and al's point of view. anyway, it's good to see somthing back from the past that really worked out.

Ling looks batshit and I cannot wait to see what he does. Also, I'm getting bad vibes from the group visiting Reole, especially with Hoenheim. The last couple of chapters have been really building up the tension and now with Ed back I think things will blow up in 82 or 83.
Let's put this simply:
Ed's back
Al, Scar, etc. met up with Hoenheim in Reole
Mei is heading towards central with Envy
Ling + fearless army = ???
The army is hunting Izumi
General (?) Armstrong knows about said fearless army
aaaand Amestris is surrounded by a giant alchemy circle.
....I guess we'll see what Mustang's up to next.

(first post! ><)
Looks like Father is going directly after Izumi now. Back during the Greed incident, he had Wrath look for her when Wrath heard from Ed about her. Seems Father knows she saw the Truth as well and plans to use her as a "human sacrifice". Notice at the end of chapter 73, he puts Ed, Al, Hohenheim, and Izumi in a transmutation circle to use them as "human sacrifice", and notice how all four of them have seen the Truth. The fifth is definitely gonna be Roy.
I got really mad at Mei for listening to Envy and going back. I mean, I understand her feelings but c'mon! Dont be a fool little girl! Grrrr...

It's likely. All the other manga I read have weekly releases so it is pretty agonizing to wait a month.

Tombow @ Fullmetal-alchemist.com Forum published a spoiler summary:
Chapter 82 Spoiler Preview Summary!!! ^^
Translated from entry on this Japanese site (http://anwarterdrei.seesaa.net/).
Chapter 82: "Soul Family" (temporary chapter title till I read the actual raw ^^)
Caption: Ed is back!! With full of actions!!
Ed and his gang run from Central Army's soldiers, and Ed is back in full action mode.
He acts as if he is a hostage to make the soldiers hesitate to shoot them. He highjacks a car, then transmute it to change the appearance. In the car, while running away from the Army's pursuit, Ed ponders where Al might go if it were Al in this situation.
Meantime, Al is with Hohenheim. Hohenheim tells Al about his past, and the secret about his body being the Philosopher's Stone. Al: "My father was a slave, and he is a Philosopher's Stone?!!!!" Though the news is shocking, Al accepts it as it is not impossible to have the impossible, as Al himself is the product of unusual circumstances. Both having unusual bodies, they understand each other.
Al wonders about Ed's and Al's "human-ness," born as sons of someone who is a living Philosopher's Stone, but being assured by Hohenheim that although the decomposition & reconstruction have fused Hohenheim with Philosopher's Stone, but the core is still Hohenheim, a pure human.
Hohenheim adds that, on the other hand, "Father" is a non-human thing in a 'leathery pouch' that happen to be in the shape of Hohenheim.
Al shows Hohenheim the diagrams of the Country-wide Translmutation Circle, and the Reverse Transmutatin Circle, and suggests destroying the underground tunnel, but reminded by Hohenheim that Pride is there, and Al gives up the idea of destroying the tunnel.
Al is worried that the tunnel can be completed soon, and he is in a rush to do something to prevent it. Hohenheim tells Al, "The tunnel may already have been completed. But 'the day' is not upon us yet."
He continues: "Stop keeping eyes on the underground tunnel. Look up, and you may see more. That one is waiting for the arrival of 'the day'."
The scene changes to the Central underground.
Greed/Ling attacks an intruder, Bido. Bido tells Greed/Ling about the former Greed, and GreedLing vaguely recalls some of the memories from former Greed.
But, when Bido tells Greed/Ling that he was former Greed's company, Greed/Ling says that he doesn't know Bido, and kills Bido. (note: NOOOOOOOO!!!! O_o)
But then, right after killing Bido the memory of his companions at the Devil's Nest passes through his head. He is troubled. Ling, from inside Greed, questions Greed's action about killing his former company. Greed: "He is not my company!! The memory of him is that of the former Greed, and not mine!! I have forgotten and left behind all my past!!" To that, Ling shouts back: "No way you can forget and leave behind your past. Your comrades are people you are being connected with in the soul level. Your soul is imbrued with their memory within. You can't wash them off like that. Yet, you cut-off your 'soul family,' killed him on your own hands! And, you claim to be 'Greed' who wants to own everything?!"
Holding Bido's lifeless body, Greed screams.
The Führer's residence. Führer, his wife, and Selim are relaxing at home.
Suddenly, Greed bursts in and attacks Wrath.
Greed: "The memory of my former self hasn't disappeared. The memory of people falling down, the ones who were supposedly my companies." While attacking Wrath Greed continues, "And, why is King Bladley in that scene?"
Wrath counters, "Greed, the one who can't let go of anything, even the past memory!! Fool!!" and he combats back. They fight as Selim watches them.
The fight goes on. Even during the fight, more memories of former Greed come back to GreedLing. GreedLing runs off from the Führer's residence.
As the fight ends, the Pride's black "hands" appear underneath Selim who were watching the fight with the stern expression, and disappear into the floor.
Somewhere in the suburb of Central City.
This is Mustang's safe house, the one once used when Ed and the company caught Gluttony, and brought Gluttony to.
Ed arrives, thinking that nobody would probably suspect that Ed and others would be here again, and if he were Al he would probably show up here also. But, Al is not in the house, and no evidence of Al having stopped by.
Then, GreedLing appears, and collapses to the ground. Ed asks him whether he's Greed, or Ling.
Answers Ling, "I'm starved. I didn't expect that I could see my friend again in this place."
Caption: "Ed meets Ling again, and of course the scene is Ling starving on the ground again."
(End of chapter 82)

I just loved this chapter... but don't I always say that?? It was great to see Ling after so much time, and in this way too!! And why is there a special day for sacrificing a whole country? As always another mistery to think about, and here I thought this manga wouldn't be all that long xDD
About the next chapter... I have no clue but I suppose Ed will keep trying to find Al and Co. but probably something will happen again... after all he has no clue of their location. Also the homunculus and their Father will have to think of what will they do about Greed... they're starting to be shorthanded too... xD
And I hope we'll have a glimpse of Central and the powerful people, to know what are they plotting...
Aaah, this is going to be a long wait xD

Great chapter (as usual) thanks to some very moving moments (Ling and Greed, Ling and Ed), some funny ones (Ed being taken hostage, Ed transmuting the car) and new mysteries (why is there a special day for the sacrifice ?). I also like how Ling and Greed look different despite having the same body (great facial expressions).
Also the homunculus and their Father will have to think of what will they do about Greed... they're starting to be shorthanded too... xD
I had completely forgotten about it. Lust and Gluttony are dead, Envy is more or less harmless for now, Ling has taken over Greed so there are only Sloth, Pride and Wrath. However, the remaining homonculi are no pushover. Sloth is almost invincible, Wrath is proably the best fighter in the manga and Pride seems rather powerful. And I almost forgot about Father... and Kimbley... and the whole army.
Fortunately, the good guys have Hoheinheim, Izumi has been healed, Mei will probably come back and Scar will probably fight at their side.
I want chapter 83 now !

Awesome chapter. Not really anything to talk about that people above me havent already said.
I just wanna know what Mustang is planning already. He met with Hawkeye's grandfather by Hughes death about 20 chapters ago to plan something; I wanna know what that is already.
And Ed needs to reunite with his dad. He can probably teach him Xing alchemy, cause that seems the only way they'll be able to stand against Father.
On the last chapter, I was mad that Envy was still alive and that there's a chance he'll get back to normal. But this actually works out fine. Cause I want Mustang to avenge Hughes. All throughout the story, Mustang has been asking enemies he's encountered "Did you kill Maes Hughes?" Imagine he meets his Envy... the flame alchemist will go wild! ><

I can safely say this is the most exciting thing that's happened to me for a while... very few things get me jumping up and down in my room looking like a loony.
I LOVED this chapter. Ling is finally back, and it was great to see more of him - Greed starting to doubt himself, and then total control by Ling (I loved those last lines - "I'm hungry" "Yep, it's Ling")
I too am wondering why there is a special day for the sacrifice to take place. I'm sure Arakawa has a good reason up her sleeve, even if I don't know what it is.
Next chapter, I'd love to see more of Ling (as Ling) and Ed - they're also near Central, so possibly some of Mustang and Hawkeye too - maybe Havoc? I think Wrath/Bradley is probably going to act on Greed going beserk - maybe reporting to Father, which could lead to an explanation of the "special day" - or maybe Wrath will bring Hawkeye into it? I see lots of possibility's, and cannot wait until the next chapter!

Maybe it's because there something like an eclipse or the positioning of certain planets or any other rare event which have the definition of not happening every other day?? I'm not sure about this but it's only my opinion on this whole "special day" thing...
I think he does need all his "players" to be in the vertices of the pentagram otherwise he probably could not acheive whatever he wanted...but in order for Ed and the others to cooperate with him, most likely father would take a few people whom his "players" are close to hostage.

that's a good point... in order to 'force' the characters to take the expected positions...
winry may be the hostage to get ed, and maybe mei is to be used to attract al... the others i can't make righ now...

Yeah there must be something on "that day" that rarely happens. Can we get some clues/infos on what "that day" means at chapter 75? It was also "that day" when the homunculus transmuted the whole Xerxes for his body, right?
I really want to know what "that day" means. Plus, Bradley said he'll have Mustang to open the gate. So I'm expecting him to appear in the next chapter.

The other "players" would most probably be Mustang, Izumi and Hohenheim...maybe Hawkeye would be used as hostage to get Mustang, as for Izumi, it'll be probably her husband being hostage...and for Hohenheim, I can't think of anybody he's close to enough to be hostage...maybe Trisha would be the one if she's still alive...

Or maybe instead of father using a hostage to lure hohenheim they could use prey? Maybe make him think hes going to destroy father or something.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing about the planets. Would explain why Hohenheim told Al to look up at the sky.

Yeah, either that or something to do with gods (leto's statue was shown), or probably both!
A lot of stuff in past chapters aludes to both: Ed telling Rose the story of Icarus, the meaning of the circle behind human transmutation ("casting God down"), the explanation of the symbols that comprise Kimblee's circle.

Caption on the side: Reunited with Ed, and he is not Greed, but Ling...
It's Ling who showed up in front of Ed. Ling took control of his body back when Greed was in mental turmoil.
Ling tells Ed that Father will open the Door on the Day that's coming sometime in the near future.
He suggests that if Ed and Al would jump into the gate then they may both get their bodies back.
He wants to continue talking, but Greed is coming back and starting to take over the body.
But, before Greed takes over, Ed learns of "Day of Promise".
Ling is happy to know that his message to RanFan was safely passed on to her.
Then, Greed takes back the control of the body again.
Greed is not fighting Ed. He is simply leaving the scene.
After that attack of Bradley during his mental turmoil, he does not know what happens if he goes back to the Central underground. So, he decides to just go away.
Seeing that, Ed offers Greed to join Ed and the gang.
Although being surprised of Ed's suggestion, Greed is tempted. But, he declines and leaves.
Now being alone, Greed mutters that even with many souls within him, he feels empty.
Ling entices Greed that if Greed gives back the control of the body to Ling, he will become the Emperor of Xing, and fill that emptiness.
Greed tells that it's small being a leader of one country, why not becoming a leader of the whole world....
While they are talking to each other, Ed catches up.
Ed tells that he can't let his emotion run and miss this chance and the vast information. Hence, he would let Greed be the boss if Greed would agree to join them.
Greed agrees.
Central. At the Armstrong residence.
Olivier is talking with her father. She requests her father to yield the position as the head of the family to her, and retire to the foreign country.
The father tells Olivier that he is intending to pass on the position to Alex.
Alex happens to be there. Olivier and Alex fight over the position.
While they are fighting, the father is busy getting ready for his vacation abroad.
Olivier comes out as an winner of the fight.
Alex questions Olivier why she has joined the group of upper Army officers.
Olivier answers that so that she can see and judge about them herself.
"And, seeing them by yourself is resulting in your suggesting our father to escape to other country for safety?" asks Alex.
Olivier smiles back.
Dublith. At Sig's meat shop.
The military soldiers keep visiting the meat shop in search of Izumi. Mason deals with them and send them back empty handed, then communicates with Sig. He passes on the message from Al and Hohenheim about the "Day of Promise."
Briggs fort. There is Izumi.
Someone attacks the sentry soldier.
Asked who's there, the voice answers, "A wife."
With the report of the attack, Miles and Buccaneer head to the brig where the attacker is being held. Izumi awaits them there, as meeting them was the reason for her attack of the soldier.
She passes on the message from Al about the "Day of Promise," and other information.
Farther on, the information is passed on from Buccanear to Falman, then Falman to General Grumman in the East Headquarters.
General Grumman passes on the information to a Second Lieutenant, Hawkeye's friend, Rebecca.
Second Lieutenant Rebecca goes shopping with her friend, First Lieutenant Hawkeye, and they have a nice friendly chat while shopping.
After shopping with her friend Rebecca, Hawkeye pays a visit to Havoc in the hospital.
Havoc tells Hawkeye that once his body condition becomes stable he intends to move to the military hospital in the East army. Hawkeye gives him cigarettes as a care package.
Hawkeye leaves.
From behind the curtain in the Havoc's hospital room, Mustang appears.
Havoc tells Mustang that he didn't have to hide behind the curtain. Mustang answers that with eyes on both of them it's better to be cautious and avoid having personal contacts in private setting.
Havoc offers Mustang the cigarettes just given by Hawkeye.
Havoc pulls a cigarette from the package half way so that Mustang can pull out one easily from the package.... the one with the message on the rolling paper.
Thus, Mustang learns about the "Day of Promise."
Thus, after the year turns to the next one and comes next Spring, on that promised Day, the Eastern army will make the move, the Northern army will make the move.....
The day of showdown is approaching.....!!!!

i have a feeling we might be in for a time skip very shortly. It would certainly add more suspense to the final scenes if we were unsure of the preparations that each side had made. There's also the fact that we're somewhere in the region of 4-6 months away from the promised day, which would take a lot of chapters to cover without a time skip, and i may be wrong, but i'm sure i heard somewhere that fma was drawing near to its finish, so another year of build up to the promised day, and then another year on the events of the promised day would probably be too much.

i wonder what time it is now? i don't remember but i hope there won't be a timeskip. but for the timeskip.. will it be only in the manga or they actually gonna do it in real life? I think naruto actually stop for a period of time rite?
i think ed has to meet w/ al and stuff before that so who knows there might be lil adventure between here and there till the promised day.

well, we won't have to wait too long if there's a timeskip, though i think i'd prefer if there wasn't one ;)
man, this was a really packed chapter. one of the best things for me is that we finally saw something from riza and mustang again. perhaps the focus will shift to them in the next chapter (i hope :tem).
as far as greed and ed teaming up, i was also pleasantly surprised. i had wondered since the last chapter if greed would be taking over again and it seems like he has. it's going to be interesting to see how ed will do as the subordinate, though.

Finally a GREAT chapter!!!And I thought FMA was going down. Good humor, unexpected turn of events and such tension! "I am not short! I just live in the big world!" XDXDXDXD Finally Ed and his complex are back! And I LOVE Armstrong family!!!!!! Waaah, it is totally awesome.
By the way, I am almost sure, that there will be a time skip. It really feels like we are heading towards the GRAND FINALE and mangaka is choosing the right course of action. It would have been lame if she rushed the action. So i would even PREFER a time skip now. Seeing some little adventures is only going to ruin this awesome feeling of something global happening.

i really hope that will happen, but given the circumstances i doubt it. the special day is probably the main and last event of the series, and arakawa may keep up the thrill till the very end. i think the author will make them meet during the opening of the gate ou after it.
