Awesome chapter, I look forward to upcoming arc in which Toriko will be in search of the melk stardust and Melk the first generation. I wonder what the second generation saw by looking at Komatsu when holding his broken knife.

Man, this upcoming arc is definitely going to rock and you can clearly see that older generation is sending Toriko to the most daring places

Melk II is an adopted daughter of Melk.

It seems that the interest for Toriko at MH is really low.

Personally I love Toriko, but it's not the easiest manga to find right now and it doesn't help that we're not into the arc fully yet.

fizban
December 01, 2010, 01:46 PM
I'm interested in this arc because it seems like we might finally learn why so many people are fascinated by Komatsu's knife. Almost every high-level person who has seen it so far has shown interest, and Melk 2 is kind of giving us hints as to why.

Does the spoil posted by aise2i mention a meeting between Melk1 and Toriko?
I'm really interested in Toriko but this arc is longer to start than others(maybe because we get used to more adventure and action).

aise2i
December 02, 2010, 10:30 AM
Yes. Melk I's voice is very small, so Toriko asked him many times to speak up and to confirm if he's Melk I. The big scorpion cow monster showed in the last page of 120 seems to be working for Melk I, collecting stones and so on.

After the explanation of Melk II on how Melk I is so shy and how she was brought up by Melk I (the only one who sees Melk I not as a devil, so many people try to be his apprentice and lasted at most only 3 days, etc.), the scene switches back to Toriko being amazed by the presence of so many huge kitchen knives.

I hope images will come out soon to clear things up.

Bender

Thanks aise2i!
Melk...shy? His character seems to contrast with his figure. :D
I'm a little frustrated there is no fight between Toriko and the cow, i hoped we could see Toriko's new techniques (from the Gourmet World), but we'll have to wait for it :p.

Pics: http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=947288934

I misinterpreted the small voice of Melk to indicate that he's shy. He simply only cares about stones.

The cow scorpion monster is working for (and very afraid of) Melk I. Toriko was surprised that the monster can hear thoroughly Melk's order. The only time Melk's voice got bigger is when the monster got a piece of stone. Twice has Melk turned his back and say "Bye bye" to Toriko :P In any case, Toriko followed him which led to the last page I described before.

Ohana has pretty much posted the whole dialogue of the whole chapter. What I have to add is probably that nobody's successful to become Melk I's apprentice because he's so strict and so silent/uncommunicative (an example we've just seen with Toriko). And there goes 100 pupils per year. Melk II told Komatsu her history, and also the accident which scarred her face while observing/peeping Melk I at work. After she finished crying, she immediately in awe with the knifes. After the accident Melk I lets her to see him working at close a bit. She found that sharpening knifes very attractive because of Melk I's sharpening skills/power. That's basically the main motivation for Melk II to succeed Melk I as a top notch grindmaster. Anyway, Melk II got depressed, blaming herself being a woman, and in the end acknowledging Toriko's comment that she's a fake. Komatsu came into "rescue" and said otherwise.

Ah and yes, the 100 pupils is actually around 100 pupils per year.

Toriko has ranked about Bleach quite a bit. The only thing keeping it out of the "big 3" right now is the fact that it doesn't have an anime. When it has a real series going I am sure the sales for it will be comparable to the others.

Not One Piece, mind you. The sales of all the other series combined aren't able to touch that behemoth.

ALSO! I loved how quiet Melk is. And the face he made when holding little baby Melk was priceless.

It is great that the finding of Melk I wasn't stretched out. This is definitely a mini-arc. I'd like to hear more from Melk I because I want to know why he decided to go down there and to leave for a while. Anyway, it seems that he has started there his own business.

I believe the first Melk is down there to create weapons for some kind of upcoming war. Probably linked with the intelligent beasts, which looks like the GT Robots. Whom Toriko met at Sky Garden. The IGO President was rather surprised that those beats are already in the human world. So I believe there will be a fight, for which the first Melk is creating weapons out of Melk Star Dust to fight them, for the past 6 years.

Just a theory though. I hope there is more to the first melk than just a mini arc.

別に寡黙な男では無く、ただ単に声が小さいだけだった。
初代メルクはあの石が無いとまともに会話ができない。
二代目を譲っているのに、二代目メルクにすら声が届いていなかった・・・。

Melk's small voice creates misunderstanding to everyone, including Melk II. He's no reticent fellow, only his voice is small when there's no stone (some particular stone, that is) nearby.

I'll wait for ohana (2ch) to see whether hers corresponds to this spoiler.

Koen
December 08, 2010, 08:03 AM
Maybe Melk II is creating her own thoughts from things she can't hear and understand. Melk II is probably wrong because she hears the bad things that her master never said. She has a low profile and she probably thinks that her master didn't believe in her. But maybe her master finally found someone whom he could leave his shop to thus finally allowing him to go downstairs

Nice theory Black Hair, I like it

Well a mini arc (+ previous ones too) itself isn't bad. I am sure they'll have some meaning later on (or maybe now). Toriko has struggled some adventures by which he will become stronger than he was during his last fight against tommyrod. Yeah, never say never that Melk is part of the older generation (Setsuno, Jirou, master of Teppei) and thus they might prepare themselves and the younger generation for upcoming bad events

So we've "Air" now, too. Interesting. Is it possible that "God" is in fact made of Earth, Air and the remaining ingredients?

Can't wait to see how Toriko is going to obtain the Melk Stardust.

Also, Melk the 1st is awesome. Laughed at his reactions :lmao Komatsu did a good job with his daughter, as well.

fizban
December 11, 2010, 07:20 PM
I laughed a few times in this chapter. Besides the hilarity surrounding Melk I and his tiny voice, I got a kick out of the sheer amount of food that Komatsu made. You can tell he is the perfect partner for Toriko when he considers that much food an appropriate amount to make for two people. Heh.

It is adorable how affectionate Melk I is for his daughter. I look forward to a sappy reunion scene when this arc is over.

So Air is the salad course, and our lovable president feels that it needs an exceptional knife to be properly handled? Interesting. I suppose his fish dish will be Ocean.

If this does end up becoming a mini-arc, I kind of hope the next one will feature Toriko going after something that he could have as his drink. Drinks are usually something made by man, but the ones we've seen on full-course menus seem to be natural occurrences. Give us some drinks!

Koen
December 12, 2010, 10:40 AM
The chapter was good and it was nice to tell the two stories in one chapter. One half was spent to Komatsu convincing Milk Melk II that she is a worthy successor of Milk Melk I. That was instantly followed by the second half in which Milk I confirmed that her daughter was the best successor for the name Melk. Komatsu has the strength to convince people. Two of the four heavenly kings were intrigued by him, Jiruou saved his life, the old man from the Island, Setsuno, Teppei,... I really believe that Toriko has the best partner he can imagine.

So Air is a course like God? Anyone?

Milk - Melk: if I write Milk instead of Melk then that is because of my language in which Melk is dutch for Milk (ingredient). So forgive me :)

So Air is a course like God? Anyone?

The way I understood it Air was/is part of Accia's full course menu. Accia was the super guy who educated the last generation before Toriko including the president. But I think you know that.

While God was the main dish Air is supposed to be the salad. So we can assume that Water might be the fish dish and fill out the rest of his menu by guessing the elements.

Chapter is out (mangastream)

The chapter is really cool. It already sets up the story to a new arc. The mellow cola arc. Epicurean graveyard, a very dangerous place in which Toriko is going to need help. Let that help be Zebra. Man, zebra looks like a monster. I look forward to an arc in which Zebra is going to play a prominent role.

Yay, he's going after a drink! A good way to wrap up and arc and set up the next one.

Also I guess it is neat that Zebra has finally been shown. They weren't playing around when they locked him up, were they? Being held down with gigantic chains in a beehive prison being suspended over a field of spikes jutting out at random angles? He probably could have escaped at any time if he really wanted to.

He's been described as evil and pretty savage throughout the series, but he is still considered one of the good guys by a lot of the characters. I am super excited to see how he actually acts when he is free to do whatever. There's definitely going to be some conflict between him and our heroes if he is truly as cruel as we've heard. Toriko only kills things if he intends to eat them, but Match said that Zebra kills just to kill. Maybe Komatsu and his meat underwear will cause him to have a change of heart. It worked for Melk II

Well, being on the side of the good guys doesn't necresarilly mean that you're nice (think Saitō Hajime from Rurouni Kenshin). We'll see wha the's actually like though. Toriko referred to him early in the series as a "problem child" which indicates that he doesn't exactly have a negative opinion of Zebura but knows that he may go overboard at times. But I wonder whether Komatsu will tag along on this adventure or not - he may still want to stay with Melk for the time being and cola doesn't sound like an ingredent that needs his cooking talents to be prepared (though you never know), so...

Who knows? I know that Setsuno took the items from Jirou's full course menu and actually made dishes out of them; there's a chance that Komatsu will do the same thing with the Cola. He already took the Rainbow fruit and turned it into that delicious looking pudding thing.

Cola is a pretty handy ingredient though. Cola boiling is used in restaurants to cook down meat, and I remember they did a similar thing on Yakitate! Japan once with nori.

Yeah... You have a point. Maybe he could make the cola into ice slush or something :amuse

Really? Never heard of it being used in this way. Guess it's another thing that shows how utterly unfamilar with so many aspects of cooking I am :eyeroll . Hmm, oing a google search on this, I find that aside fromt he use you mentioned, cola is also used in certain cakes/pastries and the like as well... So maybe Komatsu could find more uses for it than I thought there would be :) .

That cover got me thinking about the partnership between Gourmet Hunters and Chefs. We've had a bit of attention put on that bond lately, with Toriko and Komatsu forming a pair, but we haven't seen any evidence that Sani or Coco have their own partners. I wonder if they will get some in the future, or if it will be one of those times in a manga where they tell the main character that it is super important that he does ____ but his colleagues aren't expected to do the same and so they eventually become less important.

Well now, Toriko (and in extension Komatsu) is the one that Ichiryuu is putting his hopes upon for the next gourmet age (or forthgoing, as the case may be), so it's natural. Besides, despite Ichiryuu arguing that every Gourmet Hunter should have a cook as his partner, otherwise their meny "loses all value" as he puts it, we've seen that most gourmet hunters don't have a chief as their partner. So far, the only ones we've seen having a chief as their partner are Jirou, Toriko and Acacia himself. But otherwise, a lot of gourmet hunters, even high-ranking ones, doesn't have ones. Indeed, Ichiryuu himself doesn't seem to have any cook partner as of yet...

Loved how over-the-top the new knife was. It'd be funny if that was how it acted every time Komatsu used it in the kitchen. Chopping up some carrots, and then you see he has accidently destroyed the city.

He was introduced in chapter 19.

And, yes, Zebra seems to be the strongest so far. But also something of a "problem child", according to Toriko.

I've been thinking about the origin of Toriko's scar near his left eye. Part of me wants to think it's from his first encounter with a creature when he was young. That moment made him want to track down and discover the gourmet world. Right now Toriko's body seems impervious to any future scars, probably from the gourmet cells since there was nothing after he regrew his arm.

I've just caught up to this excellent manga, here be my first contribution to this thread :nuts

Translation of above spoiler
Verification: Confirmed
SOurce: 2ch, MH
Credits: Ohana, saladesu

Coco, Sani, Toriko are having a meal.
They're drinking cola
Toriko says he will now go to get mellow cola
Then, Komatsu appears
He says he was late because he was looking at Melk kitchen knives

After a wait of about 5 years, they set out in extravagance in a horse carriage (TN: not so sure about this, the kanji are literally passenger horse, and google is not very helpful :|)
Sani will go until at a fork in the road
Coco will go to the vicinity of Jidaru-ou

And then, everyone gazes at the Melk kitchen knife
Coco: That's good, did you eat the Melk stardust? (TN: actually Ohana has this line as what would normally translate to "did Melk eat" but this doesn't seem to fit, so this is what I am going with)
Sani: I couldn't even feel the dust with my feelers
It is a secret between Melk, Komatsu and Toriko with regards to whether or not they ate or did not eat the Melk stardust~

Coco: Why is Toriko riding this ship?
Announcement in the building: Kousen no Tobira (Hell's Door)
Toriko: Here we are. I'm going to get Zebura! I have a request for all of you, between us 4 heavenly kings. Won't you help me with getting Zebura?
Coco and Sani refuse

Toriko gets off with Komatsu
Toriko: I made a present, but maybe it's not enough
Zebura, from behind: It's not enough.
Only Toriko can hear this voice, Komatsu can't hear it

Toriko: Sound bullets? From such a distance... That bastard sure's gotten better
Zebura can you hear me? Was that you greeting me for our reunion from as far away as you are?

In the end all we see are Zebura's effeminate mouth

Well chapter has been out at mangastream for a while since yesterday - Zebura sure seems like an impressive guiy so far. He doesn't have many who like him either, apparently, what with Coco and Sani's refusal to meet him. I guess next week we'll see him and Toriko meet each other face to face :)

And Crystal Cola... *drools*

I don't think that people don't like Zebura. I just believe that it is for the world's own good that they lock up Zebura. He is not a villain and I am sure that the other three accept him as one of their group. I think that answers will unfold the secrets of Zebura. I wouldn't be surprised if Zebura will unlock himself when Toriko and Komatsu enter his prison.

Anyway, the refusal of Sanji and Coco was hilarious :)

Sup! I'm new to this manga and I'm surprised at how much I like it. There's so much I'm ready to see.

I also think Zebura is still in the prison of his own will like mentioned above. They'll probably come to release him and he'll say I heard it all so I started taking off the chains.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Komatsu using his new knife on an adventure after seeing it split Melk Mountain. And I wonder why they are keeping how the Melk Star Dust tasted a secret? It must have some amazing affects.

Akainu
January 23, 2011, 05:18 PM
it's a nice chapter indeed, felt a little similar to one piece with the prison idea, especially using one underwater and the inner construction of the beehive, but I guess it's a pretty popular theme and it's adapted to Toriko in a brilliant way. who would have thought such a cruel place possible :s that though makes me wonder how the other two prisons work.
as for the next chapter I bet that the warden (such a spitting image xD and yet again fitting the theme, brilliant) doesn't want to let Zebra go because he's so intimidating towards the beasts from outside, they'd have a hell of a problem if he went away - resolved through... another sidetracking storyline in the forest maybe?

Koen
January 23, 2011, 05:58 PM
I agree with Akainu. This chapter reminded me a lot of one piece's prison chapter. Similar but different, it had its elements peculiar to the imaginary world of Toriko. I liked the monster designs and the assistant warden's character design a lot. Honey prison is a cruel place because the full menu course to death. Anyway very good chapter and I kinda look forward to that funny looking warden

Hmm.. the babyish talk in the original version is completely abandoned in mangastream's version.

In any case, yet another unexpected twist from Shimabukuro-sensei. I wonder what kind of a character is this warden.

saladesu
January 23, 2011, 09:20 PM
Of course there were similarities to One Piece's Impel Down, but Impel Down in itself is based on Alcatraz. Besides, it makes perfect sense to isolate prisons or ensure it's really difficult to get out of them, because their whole point is to keep the prisoners in them and away from the public. Both Oda-sensei and Shimabukuro-sensei did great jobs in designing the prisons to make them really unique to the worlds they had created. Sea stones in Impel Down, and specialised menus to torture prisoners in Honey Prison :)

I definitely wasn't expecting the warden to turn out the way he did :) And "warden love" :XD I think I'd better read the raw to see this "baby talk" - I wonder why MS left it as normal speech.

I wonder if Ichiryu or others from his side convinced him that staying is the best policy since they're the only ones that can give him the best tips where to find the next Gourmet, and that he should restrain himself and wait for them to get him out "officially" when they can convinced people that IGO needs him.

As a science student, I always love when Shimabukuro-sensei incorporates real science into creating his characters or their features. Like back in the century soup arc with that guy who had anti-freeze on him. And here he does it again - using pheromones this time! :tem

Zebura is crazy strong!! :omg Like LoS, I'm wondering why he never escaped before. I guess it might have something to do with what Toriko said about it being just like him to request for his own execution multiple times.

Hello Hai, I didn't know that you read Toriko too. Be welcome over here :)

about the chapter: I wondered why I refrained myself from posting last week that I was thinking about the pheromones. I knew her power had something to do with that. It was also funny to know the reason why she was against Zebura's exit from honey prison. A man thinks about something serious and then eventually it was some plain and easy. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason why Zebura didn't escape is due to some opportunity he saw. Maybe, honey prison was the best facility for Zebura to get stronger.

There was something chilling about the way that everybody froze up when Komatsu asked what Zebra did to get locked up in the first place. We've been told that he is different than Toriko in that he kills more for pleasure than for sustenance like Toriko, and he savagely ripped apart the guy from the Gourmet Mafia. Did he wipe out entire species himself? Did he kill people over food? Something even worse? None of those would surprise me.

What surprises me is that Toriko still tries to act friendly towards him. He knows how dangerous and unstable the guy must be, and yet he still tries to greet him with a smile.

He lost his voice at the end of the chapter. He took out an entire canyon full of monsters in the process, but once he loses his voice that is a big power drop. At that point all he has going for him are his 300+ pounds of pure muscle and the actual capacity to bite a person to death. Take that, Hibari.

It seems like Toriko's smell is the short end of the straw. Sani's touch abilities and Zebura's hearing/sound powers are both super strong. Coco's sight stuff has proven to be useful as well. But I suppose having the strongest sense of smell means he appreciates food on a higher level than the other three.

Out of the 5 senses, the 4 heavenly kings "specialise" in 4 of the senses (Toriko is smell, Zebura is sound, Sani is touch, Coco is sight), but I guess its redundant for anyone to be the sense of "taste" :XD

I kinda agree with Ero-Sanji that it's a bit disconcerting that a bigger glutton than Toriko has appeared, but I guess this could be because Shimabukuro-sensei didn't have an exact image of how he wanted Zebura to be like when he first began the manga.

Actually I disagree. In the century soup arc, his sense of smell, proved very versatile when his body started to produce that oil which repelled the bugs. In a world like this, smell is invaluable, the other senses are as well, but i think that Toriko uses it as well as the others use their main senses.

Cool chapter. I loved those house lifts a lot. The interaction between Toriko and Zebra is funny too. You can see that those men respect each other, even if they fight each other for fun. I am definitely looking forward when sani (sunny?) and coco end up with Zebra and Toriko. I would like to see the interaction between the four heavenly kings :)

Anyway, Komatsu has seen a positive side in Zebra's release:
1. wars are stopped because of it
2. a kid was saved from a war machine (monsters)

And Zebra killed 26 creatures who screwed up the ecosystems

saladesu

Yeah, same here Koen. Despite how Sani/Sunny and Coco outright rejected Toriko's initial request, I'm sure they know that Zebra is actually a nice guy and that his sins aren't all that bad.

I thought it was interesting that Zebra likened himself to an ecosystem - don't take care of him, and the creatures linked to him will also suffer. Also the fact that Zebra, despite being a good guy at heart, keeps doing stuff to frighten Komatsu or says stuff that's misleading or could be misconstrued.

I really like how ambiguous Zebra is. He certainly a little bit off and psychotic at times but he seems to be at least a somewhat good guy otherwise he would have let the kid die and I believe he made the 26 dangerous species extinct because of their negative side effects.

Also the dynamic in the group is incredible and hilarious at the same time. Zebra's mood swings and lust to fight, Komatsu's fear and Toriko's indifference to all. Just looks wonderfully anarchic.

Really interesting chapter! What I love about Toriko is how Shimabukuro-sensei always links stuff back to real science~! The whole thing about ultrasonic sound made so much sense - it's like how dog trainers use a certain kind of whistle that humans can't hear but that dogs can. When Zebura locates people/things around him, I wonder if he is essentially using echolocation just like dolphins do?

Once they find Komatsu, though, without camels it looks like Toriko will be having to carry him :p

Interesting also that the seemingly blood-thirsty Zebura had the self-control not to kill the sharks. The fact that Toriko commented on it as well means it ought to be something significant. Also, I agree with Ohana that Zebura most likely wants Komatsu as his reward. I wonder what will happen when he tells Toriko that :XD

Good chapter. I wonder what Zebra will ask in return for bringing back Komatsu. I also wonder if Zebra has somewhat an important role in this disappearance. I don't say that he left Komatsu somewhere but I wouldn't be surprised if he knew that Komatsu was missing on a certain moment. Instead of anticipating to this together with Toriko, he probably awaited the arrival at the labyrinth. Zebra probably doesn't have bad intentions but maybe he wants some time alone with Komatsu without Toriko. Maybe, he wants to find whom Komatsu really is without Toriko.

So by Zebra saying that komatsu is the reward to do you think he wants komatsu forming with him a combo???

and i think that the need danger that komatsu is going to face is going to be a good time to see maybe a new komatsu , a komatsu that wont need to be always beeing protected by Toriko. now that he has that crazy knife , and being him a very skilled guy with knifes i think he can
now be able to protect him. it is definitely a good time to see him improving , he need to become stronger also cuz if that doesnt happen it will be impossible to toriko to save him when they enter in the gourmet world. and until now we have got the idea that it will be possible that we will see a stronger komatsu maybe somaday we will be even stronger Setsuno at least i hope lol :omg

Is it a GT Robo, or an actual Birdman? I kind of hope the former. The latter is kind of on a different level in my mind right now and Zebura's already wearing himself out.

One thing I thought was weird is the talk about burning calories. I'm an Opera singer and don't think I am burning calories that rapidly when I'm doing shows that last several hours. It seemed like they were adding extra 0's at the end of everything for the sake of drama.

We got to see Zebura's intimidation monster this week. Super creepy thing, and there was a bit of a bat-thing going on with it so it ties in with his sound stuff.

saladesu
March 11, 2011, 04:46 AM
Zebura in on word: CRAZY :blink The amount of stamina he has is insane!! 240 triathlons? I think I would barely even survive one! :sweat Maybe they are exaggerating for drama's sake, but it could also be because normally when we talk about calories, we talk in kilocalories, which "removes" three zeros. Here it seems Shimabukuro was using just "calories" with no prefixes. I dunno, though :headscratch

But Zebura's intimidation monster was kinda cool (and sorry for the wrong spoiler trans... I didn't realize he was talking to it, not to Toriko :p). Like fizban said it's fitting that it's a bat. It's a pity a good number of panels with the bat were sketchy and half-inked. Maybe he's been too busy with promo stuff for the upcoming movie?

Can someone direct me to where the best scanlated chapters for Toriko are?

I know other popular manga have had groups go back in time and scanlate volume releases and apply appropriate translations and clean jobs compared to what you can find on the online manga reader sites.

I just started doing a re-read from the beginning and found many of the chapters to have pretty poor translations, and/or very grainy and dark pages.

I know for say One Piece as an example there is like a compilation of super-mega releases in a huge file from the first volume onward.

----------------------------

Hey everyone, I was just wondering what/who you think the "boss" of this arc will be?

All the fodder beasts have been in the 40's in the Pyramid which is pretty damn high, and we already saw Zebra take out plenty of beasts in the 50's and even two boss in the 60's.

Im thinking we will get some beasts in the high 70's for them to fight individually.

I can't say that I believe if there is no human/GT robo enemies they might fight the "real" bird as a pair and test their strength because I think those creatures themselves are sort of bosses of the Gourmet World themselves, so they are in another stratosphere of strength.

aise2i
March 13, 2011, 12:57 PM
Kewl0210's group "Hi wa mata noboru" (日はまた昇る) is the best source for recent chapters. Dunno how far they are into the back releases, but Kewl seemed to be pretty keen on redoing his translations for Toriko.

I don't think there'll be any boss for this arc. Rather, there will be quite a number of revelations, especially related to the rest of the Toriko world.

Is it a GT Robo, or an actual Birdman? I kind of hope the former. The latter is kind of on a different level in my mind right now and Zebura's already wearing himself out.

My guess is that it is a new and improved GT Robo model of the Bishoku-kai out exploring the pyramid for gourmet ingredients. Iirc, isnt the GT Robo modeled after a more advanced species that only exists in the gourmet world? Meaning it would have no real business in the human world since the food is superior in the gourmet world.

One thing I thought was weird is the talk about burning calories. I'm an Opera singer and don't think I am burning calories that rapidly when I'm doing shows that last several hours. It seemed like they were adding extra 0's at the end of everything for the sake of drama.

Yea, I basically ignored the number values and took home the concept of it all: powerful techniques require lots of energy.

Since this is training for the gourmet world, I wonder if Komatsu being on his own will force him to get stronger/improve his ability to adapt to harsh climates or conditions? If he is going to remain Toriko's partner he really needs to power up just a little.

As far as a boss goes, it will probably be just the Bishoku-kai and some higher level beasts. Toriko obviously cant handle beasts in the 60+ levels alone yet, so I doubt hes going to be given something in the 70s to tackle. Unless he powers up trying to defeat it, which is possible. I think its more likely that they encounter a higher number of 50-60 level beasts trying to find their way through the pyramid to Komatsu. Who is going to stumble upon the ingredient by the time Zebura finds him.

That whatever is awakening from that tomb is some beast that is legendary, there is a picture of the beast being fought by the real GT robo people, and those people are the ones rumored to have built the palace/pyramid as well.

Koen
March 16, 2011, 07:24 PM
It sounds every interesting because in that short arc, it was already shown that those GT people/animals had some intelligence. I think this is making the mystery even bigger because they came to build a palace elsewhere than gourmet world and we can assume that the footprints aren't from the GT robots but the animals

but for some reason I see some ritual sceneries. There's a cup below it, it gathers some tears or blood,... it looks interesting

Yep, it shows they are an extremely advanced civilization of people if they built that palace 1000 years ago.

but for some reason I see some ritual sceneries. There's a cup below it, it gathers some tears or blood,... it looks interesting.

My ultimate hope is that somehow since Komatsu has an affinity to be drawn to ingredients, that this Sphinx like character is a guardian of something, not so much a guardian placed at a task by the Robo people but a natural guardian, the Sphinx is just drawn towards something. And hopefully Komatsu can befriend this uber legendary beast and sort of make it his pet. Now, I know the pet part is extremely pushing it, but I can dream.

So Komatsu can effortlessly topple a level 38 beast with his Melk knife? Thats a pretty big powerup tbh. I wonder if he will eventually learn how to adapt to extreme environmental conditions, as would be required for the gourmet world.

I guess that beast's tears are the cola. And it requires teamwork from birdmen to get? Sounds challenging and tedious, probably with a really high capture level.

I wonder if the birdman will be a friend or an enemy? If Toriko's past encounter taught us anything its that the birdman are much more powerful than Toriko and his group at the moment (but dont really seem easy to provoke). Unless it really is a modified GT Robo of the Bishoku-kai's, though im more inclined to believe its an actual birdman.

^^^That's a good question about Komatsu getting used to extreme environments. I've been wondering that as well.

I've been waiting for Komatsu to use the Melk knife in battle. I was kinda hoping that he'd been secretly training with it. Nope, he just closes his eyes and swings as hard as he can. lol! But it looks like the knife alone was intimidating enough to scare the beast off. Once he gets a little practice he'll be ok against easier bests.

I do hope Komatsu can become somewhat dependable. Even if he doesn't become a competent fighter. I'd like to see him be able to handle level 40 beats, whether it's intimidating them or escaping from them without looking scared of panicked.

great chapter!!!!

my prediction is starting to happen! Komatsu is starting to become a bit stronger and we have to thank that to the knife that its simply amazing.

I would like to see Toriko surpassing Zebra, but Zebra is really a monster!!!! :blink

I am liking alot what have been happening so far, and i am anxious for the next chapter , but we are going to have to wait 2 weeks for it

Great - I like that the Melk knife is being used in something other than cooking. A good power-up for Komatsu that'll definitely continue to come in useful in this labyrinth. Komatsu is slowly developing along the course of the story, gaining confidence, courage, and now strength. I want to see how he will deal with the mummy guy.

I agree with the predictions that the beast's tears are the mellow cola. It's cool that the GT Robos are intelligent and truly sentient creatures, likened even to the Egyptians whose pyramids are great marvels and wonders.

There is one thing I am not particularly happy about, it started last chapter, and continued on over into this chapter, and that is the idea of a calorie count.

It screams power level to me, yes, yes I know it isn't a power level, but why introduce something that isn't particularly needed? We don't need to know they have XYZ calories left, they could simply say they only have enough energy/strength left for one, or at most two attacks.

The creature in the coffin is interesting, because it seems humanoid. I don't really know how it will look, because the picture of the chimera in the old wall portrait did not resemble the eye shape nor the fingers of the coffin creature.

I don't really have a problem with the mention of the calories...It's just a sort of "measure" of how strong a character is, isn't it? Especially when it gets compared to other activities like running a triathlon, then one is able to have a more "tangible" idea of how much energy the character is expending, and by extension how strong/fit the character is. I thought it was a nice touch actually, but to each his own, I guess :amuse

Heh, well, I haven't actually read Toriko raw myself since the english scanlations come out before the Japanese raws do, but I imagine the 0s are there because of the way the translator rendered it (and partially for effect). For all you know Shimabukuro-sensei uses the Japanese words for "thousand" and "ten thousand" and "hundred million".

I guess the more 0s there are, paradoxically the lesser the effect. I think it might have been more effective if some 0s were taken away by using "kilocalories" instead.

aise2i

That's one reason why I like kewl's translation better. The japs have it easy by using a single character 億 to represent the hundred million unit.

The calorie levels were introduced in order to introduce suspense. They're less about power and more about stamina. Yes if someone like Zebura could store 4.5m calories it's great, but if your weakest attack uses half of that, what's the point. That's why Toriko works as well as he does and this chapter shows that off. It's all about showing off the balance to Toriko's character.

kewl0210
March 24, 2011, 02:27 AM
Yeah. The calories thing is to give more of a gauge as to how many times abilities can be used. They did this a little earlier on, about how he can only use his arms so much each in the Gourmet Stadium. Then later against Tommyrod he said he has "no more weapons" when he couldn't use his right arm anymore and didn't have a left arm anymore, which is when he invented Leg Knife.

Now it's just getting broader in terms of overall energy instead of just strength in body parts. Also the calories thing has a connection to food.
And yeah, if it's written out in kanji I usually write the word out and if it's written out as a number, I'll write the number. Generally. Because reading long numbers with lots of zeroes is unweildy, they're harder to read that way. But reading out small numbers is, because they're harder to read that way because it's the other way around, the word is longer than the numbers and they're easier to read.

And as many(everyone) had guessed, Toriko eats a Devil Fruit. But, the surprising part, well to me at least, is that he finds it tasty.

The crossover was pretty cute. I laughed at Luffy's full course menu. The seating arrangements for the meal seemed to group together people who they thought would get along. Robin and Franky with Terry and Zebra? Odd. But who would Zebra really get along with? She's the best choice. He and Zoro would be together for less than a minute before they'd be fighting

beat you to it haha

What I find really cool about this manga is that Shimabukuro accepts concepts from readers for the idea/design of beasts. I noticed this last chapter but this chapter nearly all the beasts were conceptualized by readers.

I was shocked to see that there were so many coffins, I thought it would be just the one. But the size of it didn't match up with the wall mural, nor did the coffin creature's eye shape and claw match the wall mural.

It is impressive that Zebra and Toriko are easily taking out beast who have an average capture of level 40. Not so long ago Toriko would very nearly die facing something that high of a level.

The reason I don't like the Calorie count meter is because as I said last chapter it reeks of power meter. Does Zebra having 4.5 Million Kilocalories compared to Toriko's 3 Million Kilocalories make him 1.5 times stronger than Toriko?

Finestela
April 02, 2011, 08:08 PM
From the point of view of MMO's: More mana doesn't make you a stronger mage, especially if your spells are not mana-efficient. Zebra "might" last longer if both he and Toriko doesn't use any attacks, but the fact that most Zebra's attacks cost insane amount of energy pretty much negates any advantage from a higher upper limit for max energy.

I'm not sure if it's such a great thing to be accepting so many concepts from readers and use it in the manga. I mean, sure, it's great for the readers, especially those that were chosen, but it could also be interpreted as the author having trouble coming up with his own unique beasts.

Granted, these are mostly 1-show fodders, and it'd be a huge waste of Shimabukuro's time, but still... If Nintendo starts to rely on the gamers to come up with new pokemons almost exclusively, save the few, legendary pokemons, I'm pretty sure it would create an uproar and get slammed for lack of creativity.

April 02, 2011, 09:29 PM
It is true that Zebra's attacks are more powerful and in turn exhaust his fullness meter much quicker than Toriko.

It's not like him accepting concepts has been happening the entire manga, also these could have been mailed in to him over a year ago.

Finished watching the One Piece x Toriko cross over episode earlier. It won't be long now till Toriko gets its own board.

Toriko now has an anime, in a prime time spot no less. Taking over Dragon Ball Kai's spot. It has a cross over movie happening with One Piece which will gain readers by siphoning off some One Piece fans. Toriko has already had the crossover chapter which as before being paired with the most popular manga of all time will certainly help gain more readers.

Did you notice that the bird people ate most of the people living in this construct and showed in the murals how to prepare them?

http://mangastream.com/read/toriko/83457988/4
Panel 1 has the Mimic Bagworm from page 14

Panel 3 is the turtle things Toriko and Zebra ate on page 6

So it is sure to assume that one's beast tears is Mellow Cola.

I think that the book might have some relevance for Toriko and co. It must be some encyclopaedia in which more things will be explained about those bird people, the palace and the creatures. Weren't these people from gourmet world?

Anyway, Komatsu is about to face this strong monster and I wonder if Zebra's strength will be sufficient enough to help him out. Well, it is of course unknown whether it has bad wills or not but it is definitely strong if you go by the wall paintings

On the paintings I think that they are extracting ingredients from them. Specific? tongue from Mimic Bagworm, snake-hair from Gorgorps, that specific Dangoal that Zebra found, tears from that beast and many more and all those paintings make the recipe for mellow cola.

That Birdman resurrected because of the water:

Oh and judging from the pictures here are my conclusions

When the Lion yells out and everyone is holding their ears except for Zebra it seems like he is challenging the beast, sort of like, you think you are loud. Since Zebra is a sound based powerhouse its right up his alley.

What is cool is that in the final picture Toriko smells the beast's scent and it makes his mouth drool. He comments to Zebra about it, and now they are both revved up to challenge him to obtain their prize. I can not wait.

If that's not a free power up, then what is? :p

A pointer in the right direction isn't a power up. At a stretch it's a strategy guide, but if Komatsu is still wholly reliant on Toriko then any strategy guide is pointless. He needs to be able to competently protect himself at the very least.

That's a pretty absurd argument. By your definition, a mage that's reliant on a tank manages to find a really rare spell book, but it isn't really considered a power up? Or an alchemist finding a new formula?

Knowledge is power for Komatsu, and this book just gave him a free/insane power-up.

You'll be hard pressed to find a mage that can't defend itself competently. It may not be able to go head-to-head with a warrior but it can handle fodder

About damn time we see the king of the jungle, so it uses sound based attacks too.

Looks like Zebra found a pet worthy enough. Sani needs to find a legendary beast for a pet now, then all the four heavenly kings will have legendary pet beast.

I agree with Finestela. Komatsu has a knife and if the book is some ingredient encyclopaedia then this knowledge will be very useful in the near future. Don't forget that there maybe be things written in it about gourmet world. Komatsu has the ability to understand the ingredients and this book might sharpen that ability (intuition and knowledge)

Anyway, the beast looks awesome. It uses sounds as a weapon and then this beast will become the perfect opponent for Zebra. It might be possible that this might become a pet of zebra

My guess is that Toriko and Zebra will kill the beast and it will cry while a small baby of it comes out of nowhere. Then zebra will like the drink and like the little beast, surprising Toriko, and take it in.

[hr]
great chapter, very nice to see Zebra and Toriko finally with Komatsu , but didn't like much of the fact that Komatsu after be saved by those 2 , started hiding himself and started reading the book. He should a bit more worried with Toriko and Zebra!!!

And this fight against this creature is going to be epic, it has a level 92 of capture which makes it being the most dangerous creature that we have saw until now!!! Maybe we are going to see something new from Toriko next chapter!

Koen
April 09, 2011, 04:52 AM
@Jorped: I think that the last thing that Komatsu has to do is worrying about Toriko and Zebra. These guys fought their way to him and I am pretty sure that they both have experience enough.

Zebra has a tough opponent. Salamander sphinx withstood Zebra's attack and I think that Zebra will refuse help from Toriko (well I hope he will at least). Sound vs sound: awesome battle

Circumstances will probably lead to that since the bird people are there too fyi

I find it very realistic that he is reading the book. This book must have some secrets but the question is which ones it will unfold?

What an odd time for their release, 4:20am USEastern standard time Saturday.

Looks like the Sphinx is covered in Dragon Scales(some reptile scale), most likely red ones since it's called Salamander Sphinx. Thats pretty damn cool.

Highest capture level other than the legendary Gourmet World beasts with immeasurable capture levels.

That Igo President is a naughty guy, he knew they would have to defeat this beast in order to obtain the Cola, so I guess if they couldn't then their battle power wouldn't be up to par for entering the Gourmet World.

Koen

Oh adding something. Is it me or could it be that salamander sphinx is a blind animal? There is something within its eyes which is making me believe this. Don't forget that the mellow cola comes from its eyes and the fact that he uses sound, could also mean that he uses it for a sight

saladesu
April 09, 2011, 09:51 AM
That's an interesting observation, Koen! :) His eyes look kinda like lights, or somewhat like Father's in FMA. I don't know if that means it's blind, but it would be interesting if so and if it was instead using sound much like Zebra is.

I'm curious to see how they are going to make it cry so they can obtain the mellow cola. My guess is that there will be a hint in the book Komatsu found.

Also, I think a bunch of the bird people will be coming by to join the party soon. Maybe they might play a role in "helping" to make it cry. There was some water dripping on the coffin before the bird person awoke and emerged from the coffin. Presumably now that Zebra has like, demolished part of the pyramid (:XD), more water should be getting in, so more bird people are going to rise from their coffins. Also, I wonder if the tears/cola will have any relationship with the liquid dripping on the coffins (water, tears...).

HOLY SHIIIIIIIII

Everyone go check out the opening to the anime, it looks amazing. So many of the characters look bad ass, and the action sequences actually look interesting.

I did have to laugh at one point though, one of the GT Robo's has pink fur hahah.

Here are the color schemes for the 3 vice chefs:

I was expecting something like brown, maybe. I wonder if Shimabukuro had any say in these color schemes or if the anime team chose it themselves?

Anyway, just a note that the Toriko anime has it's own thread in Otaku Theatre (http://mangahelpers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=67297) :amuse All future anime discussion can be conducted there :3

Just as it was said when members were asking for a Kenichi section when it was still a thread: Toriko will get its own section when the activity of this thread proves the need for one. There is no point in creating a section when the activity is not too high, is there? :) So, if the activity is high and the quality of discussion is good, Toriko will most definitely get its own section in the future :tem In any case, we also have a thread for new section suggestions (http://mangahelpers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56891), so do direct all such suggestions there. Remember that the series thread is for discussing the series itself :amuse

It's pretty good, tells a bunch of what we already knew and guessed. We were correct on many counts.

It says the climax of the arc is next chapter, so we are almost done.

Koen
April 14, 2011, 04:28 PM
Yeah, I just read the chapter.

It somehow explains the skills of the birdman they met high on vegetable sky during the search for the ozone herb. It was already shown that this species is somewhat very intelligent. The book is confirming this as a proof. They are quite familiar with the rare ingredients and they know the way you have to handle them. I think that they are harmless unless they feel threatened. This might explain why one attacked Komatsu because touching their book might be an offence to them, a threat they can't accept.

So this new species might become very interesting. If you have a knowledge of ingredients, if you have an own language, if you have certain logical-complex habits, etc then you are somewhat civilized. They are from gourmet world going by IGO president's reaction way before. This is definitely going to be interesting

sabret00the

I'm not sure how it confirms anything with the birdmen, the birdman had to learn how to eat the Ozone Herb from Toriko through trial and error.

I'm not sure how it confirms anything with the birdmen, the birdman had to learn how to eat the Ozone Herb from Toriko through trial and error.

Deduction itself is already a proof of that. It got to it faster than Toriko and Komatsu together. Okay, it had its biological composure as an advantage but trial and error is even what scientists do nowadays. It's all part of deduction and together with the book, the fact that they are residing in human world in some building, the fact that they write and they have an own language... is imo proving that the birdmen are a fascinating race which are closer to humans than eg the puffer whale, the salamander sphinx and many other creatures they have encountered.

OR the biggest twist would be that the pyramid and the book are the doing of other humans.

saladesu
April 15, 2011, 03:29 AM
This is pretty interesting. Both theories are possible - that the birdmen are intelligent and wrote that book and had figured out how to kill the beasts in specific ways so as to ensure their taste, and also that it was actually humans who did it. If it was the latter though, how would the birdmen tie in? I'm leaning more towards the former theory. After all, there are even birdmen tombs in the pyramid and the drawings on the walls also depicted birdmen and not humans.

Shimabukuro is clearly drawing a distinct parallel between the birdmen and the ancient Egyptians. There is no doubt that the Egyptians of old were very intelligent and figured out a lot of really amazing stuff, evident in how they built the pyramids, the arrangements such that they faced precisely in a certain direction etc etc. Yet, they were not all-knowing... In the same way, birdmen could know a lot, but still not everything. Maybe it was the first time they had encountered the ozone herb, as after all ozone herbs aren't found everywhere in abundance.

Maybe birdmen are aliens? I was watching a documentary the other day about the Egyptians possibly receiving help from aliens... Totally random, I know, but this is manga, and anything can happen :XD

Koen
April 15, 2011, 05:56 AM
I think that the birdmen shouldn't be understimated. Going by the words of the IGO president, we can clearly tell that they come from gourmet world. Let it be that part of the world in which the leader of the bishokukai resides in. These birdmen were also the design of their GT robo. It might be a hint that bishokukai's boss might have been somewhat impressed/intruiged by them.

Well, sally, I think that your comparison is hitting the nail on its head. Civilisation doesn't mean that it has always been the same. Romans, Egyptians, Greeks,... etc were all humans with each their own civilisation. You can find similarities but you can also see differences between them. Hence why the birdmen can have an own civilisation apart from the humans.

The wall paintings, the book, etc I also hope that it will be their doing. I even believe that the assault on Komatsu was not done because he was a human/foreigner/mamal but more because he grabbed their book.

Great chapter of Toriko!!!

Based on the power of this monster i don't really think that Toriko and Zebra can beat it , so somehow the interference of the birdmen, will be the factor which decides what is going to be the result!

Really cool to see that we are going to see again the Birdmen, which seem to be quite powerful and neither Toriko or Zebra stand a chance of winning against it!

I hope that we will see some new moves from Toriko, and hope that this adventure helps them to become strong enough to enter in the Gourmet World!

Cool chapter. I really like the battle and Komatsu for showing us his expertise.

Here is my prediction for the next chapter. The Birdmen will defeat Zebra and Toriko. then he goes on to fight the sphinx. The birdmen will make it cry the mellow cola. Toriko will somehow drink the cola. His cells will evolve anothere step. And BAMM beats the birdmen (or chases him away)

Koen
April 18, 2011, 07:06 AM
So, a question: do you think that the birdmen will have bad intentions towards Toriko and co? Why I ask, is because when Toriko and Komatsu met the birdman on vegetable sky then Toriko could feel it wasn't a GT robo but he couldn't feel any hostility. The circumstances are different now. It seems they have stepped into their territory + their book has been taken away. One of the awakened was quite hostile towards Komatsu. So, I wouldn't be surprised if like Smit said that these birdmen might see Toriko and co as their enemies BUT as an enemy of their enemy, the salamander sphinx, they might turn out to become friends

The reason I think the birdmen will also attack the sphinx is because when we saw it awake it was very emaciated. So i think it needs to feed on a extremely potent ingredient in order to (re)gain strenght. Like the Mellow cola.
The reason I think it will attack Toriko and co. is because off the reasons you said and I dont think they are in enough trouble like usual. (Thats not a logical reason I know)
But of course they could be friends. Lets just wait and see. Either way Toriko and Zebra are in trouble

saladesu
April 18, 2011, 10:46 AM
I have a feeling Komatsu will be key in this situation (as usual). By that I mean that the Birdmen might be hostile initially, even towards him, but somehow or another, Komatsu will do something (probably accidentally), and the hostility will go away. And in that way, perhaps Toriko and co. will be able to succeed in obtaining the mellow cola because of Komatsu's help in... "communicating" (?) with the birdmen.

I agree that Toriko and Zebra are probably going to be in trouble or at least up for a fight for the next chapter at least. I don't think the birdmen will be instantly friendly. With their seemingly more advanced ways, it'd be interesting to see how they fight and match up against Toriko and Zebra.

Koen
April 18, 2011, 01:25 PM
I kinda agree with both of you.

believe that there will be an emergence of hostility towards Toriko and Zebra. The fact that the birdman attacked Komatsu couldn't have been because of the book only but maybe because of the knife he used and the sound armour from Zebra by which he was protected. The birdmen might be attracted by strength, or better said the conditions of the present creatures/ingredients. Why do I think that? Well as soon as some other creature came nearby Komatsu, the birdman decided to attack that one instead. Humans are probably ingredients to them like other creatures are to the bishoku-ya and the birdmen. I somehow think that the birdmen are interested in the ingredient which gives them the strongest hunch attacking it. Hence why I believe that the Salamander Sphinx might be their lifebuoy.

Josl
April 18, 2011, 03:49 PM
I got the impression that the birdman was simply hungry. I mean how long was he in the coffin? A few thousand years? Than he wakes up and is insanely hungry, sees Komatsu and tries to eat him but fails. This would also explain why he couldn’t penetrate the sound armour. In the world of Toriko Calories equal strength, which means if you haven’t eaten for a few thousand years, your strength will not be that high. He might even never have met a human. Than he sees the bigger creature with more meat and changes target.
I even believe that the birdman will work together with Toriko and Zebra to get the Cola because on the picture more than one birdman were necessary to get the cola which implies you simply need a few people to get the creature to cry.

saladesu
April 19, 2011, 03:27 AM
That also begs the question... How long can birdmen live? Why was it even in the coffin? How long have birdmen even been around? :o I keep thinking of the comparison to Egyptians and mummies and those horror movies where the mummies come back to life. Some water was shown dripping and then the birdman rose. I really wonder why that happened. It's very possible it was just hungry, and at that point without enough energy to penetrate the sound armor.

As I still think Komatsu will play a key role here, perhaps the only reason the birdman reacted so hostile towards Komatsu was because of the sound armor. It sensed Zebra. If it hadn't been there, maybe it wouldn't have been hostile.

I'm more inclined to believe that birdmen are more like bioweapons used by whoever built the pyramid to gather ingredients, as oppose to the master of the place themselves...

saladesu
April 19, 2011, 08:09 AM
But if so, why would the people who built the birdmen draw pictures of the birdmen on the walls? If they were going to draw pics, and they were the master of the birdmen, I think they would have at least depicted themselves as well, ruling the birdmen :XD

I think the GT Robos are the bioweapons, and they are based off the birdmen.

I also agree with Saladesu!
GT Robos are the bioweapons and they were inspired in these Birdmen!

I don't know how the hell Toriko && Zebra && Komatsu are going to escape from this situation!

The Salamander Sphinx seems to be already too much for them, unless they show us new powerful attacks! And this situation only becomes worse thinking that at any time a Birdmen can attack them ! And the Birdmen are obviously on a higher league than both Zebra and Toriko and even the 2 together :crying

Here's my explanation:

The Birdmen were drawn only next to the the greater beasts because those are the only ones that requires the use of them. If the Birdmen are indeed the masters themselves, then why aren't they present at all in the pictures of the lesser beasts in the books? Why isn't there a Birdman chopping up the mushrooms or de-scaling the lesser beasts?

I'm not saying I'm definitely right, but it's a plausible hypothesis as to what they are :p

•Sasuke•
April 19, 2011, 10:58 AM
both of you have some good point in your argumentation.
i think that saladesu's one is more plausible but even yours is not totally impossible.
so you think that these "gt robots" were lost or something and that the Bishoku-kai found one and then they were able to reproduce them?
i think they have come across "the birdmen" in the gourmet world and then they have tried to reproduce their skills with the robots

Finestela
April 19, 2011, 11:35 AM
Well, I personally think the "lost people" who built the pyramid were technologically advanced enough to make these super creatures (the birdmen) as tools to hunt for ingredients and taking down the greater beasts. The Bishoku-kai was inspired by this (instead of getting their own hands dirty, just have something that can be manufactured to get the ingredients), and built their own mechanical versions, the GT robos.

But i would like more if these birdmen were actually an animal that is strong and smart enough to capture these high level creatures !

I hope that Mitsutoshi actually goes this way ! I think it is more interesting this way , than if these birdman were robots !

Cuz it would emphasize the fact that Toriko and the others in order to enter the gourmet world will not only have to worry about the Bishoku-kai, and principally is leader but also about the monsters that leave on there and the environment conditions of these places!

Why the enemies have to be always bad humans and his evil creations ? I think it is a good time to also emphasize that there are monsters that have a huge destructive power and that Toriko and the others should be aware of!

Can't wait for the next chapter :zomg

Koen
April 19, 2011, 06:57 PM
The birdmen are not bioweapons imo. The encounter between Toriko, Komatsu and the birdman made that clear. Toriko said it himself on vegetable sky that the birdman wasn't like the GT Robo at all. If you say that birdmen are bioweapons then you are totally forgetting this (http://www.mangareader.net/349-57267-2/toriko/chapter-109.html) and ongoing pages. Toriko is clearly stating that it is a living thing, totally different from the GT robo. Please, don't start to mix up the true birdmen with GT robos

The boss lives in gourmet world, the birdmen might originate from gourmet world and what humans are in human world, are birdmen in gourmet world. Hence the fascination of the boss to create GT robo based on the birdmen design. Birdmen are probably the most intelligent creatures in gourmet world and they are probably the gourmet world bishoku-ya. That's the most plausible theory

BUT I do agree that the pyramid, palace would be more righteous, might be the creation of some older human race.

Who doesn't say that the birdmen initially lived in human world and that they were observed by humans. They might be the first creatures to have set foot in gourmet world.

I think that the discussion whether the birdmen came from human world and went to gourmet world or came from gourmet world and went to human world, is the most intriguing question in this current arc

I'd go for latter one but somehow the former one is possible too

Finestela

I'm not saying they're mechanical (I've actually clarified this several times in my posts), but that they are "man-made" and used to gather ingredients by whoever built the super structure.
