So this little shit here found something out about you and you're being threatened/ coerced / blackmailed, eh!

Er, I tried to keep the translation as literal as possible, so it doesn't sound very natural, but I think the meaning gets accross.

脅

The core meaning is "threaten"
The onyomi is "kyou"
The kunyomi are "odosu", "odokasu" and "obiyakasu". In this case, the reading is "odosu", and it means basically to intimidate someone.

The radicals are probably "triple chikara" and "tsuki"...

It looks like Japanese family name, but I don't think such name really exists, and only used in fictions.

While 奥村 (okumura) is a popular family name in Japan, the kanji "澳" is a kanji which is not popular at all.
(There are thousands of kanjis, but nobody knows all kanjis, and average Japanese are taught only thousand or so kanjis at school.)

A kanji dictionary tell me this "澳" formaly reads "iku" or "ou", but many Japanese people would read it "oku", associating it with the kanji "奥"。
This kind of inference is a major tactics Japanese uses when reading unknown kanji.
So, if it is used in a novel or manga or something, the author must have intended it to be read "okumura" I guess.

改善 means to change for the better. To correct a flaw. It has a strong corporate-culture bottom-up improvement meaning associated with its use under the right context. Depending on your circumstances you will need to be careful if you don't mean that.

There are actually many words to describe personal improvement depending on the primary facet of personal improvement and the style and regiment used as means.

What I had in mind was more of an intimate, personal betterment. Like getting better in a spiritual as well as in a physical way.

I wanted to express the idea that a person can always be better. Like in the sayng: what does not kill you, makes you stronger.

Specifically, I currently have a very bad moment in my life with my relationship falling apart and what I would like to express is that I don't want to remain bitter about it but learn a lesson and end up a better person than I was.

I hope this explains a little more what I would like to express.

How are those? As for a simple kanji phrases, I think it's a bit harder to pack in all the meaning.
A more methodical analytical approach to personal development is like 自信研鑽.

Regarding the sentence I don't really have a clue, but it could be something like:

But it all lies in the context.

I'm not sure about a free text in 'Boku to kanojo no XXX' chapter 48, or to say Vol7, chapter 6:
'ちょっと　お義母さんと呼ばれてみたい'
'母親世代　まで...'
It's about a conversation between the main protagonist and her (more or less) mother about dating. The mother is very fond about her daughters partner, calling him handsome and so on when this text is shown. I get the first part, but I don't really get the second line. I'm not sure.
'Til the generation of mothers' sounds very strange.

The first one: 稼 means to earn (money, but it could also mean "to stall/to hold off" if used with the term "time" in 時間稼ぎ) So...
あんたのじゃお金稼げないでしょ = "With yours, you can't make a profit." or something like that.

The second one:
The kanji is 表 which means "front" in this context.

He's refering to a guest/visitor/customer. So in short, that panel should be:

Problem is, almost any kanji can appear in manga :/ Of course there are some that are generally more common, which can be found on the Jouyou kanji list. There were 1945 kanji (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_j%C5%8Dy%C5%8D_kanji) on the list initially, but last year this number increased to 2136 (196 new kanji, some deletions (http://www.kanjiclinic.com/listshinjoyocompounds.htm)). Most of the lists online are the 1945 one.

Depending on the genre of manga you read, you will probably also come across any number of weird kanji that you'll never see in your Japanese class or any kanji lists available on the net. The good thing about manga is that there is usually furigana so you can check a dictionary pretty easily :tem Alternatively you can check out this dictionary site (http://jisho.org) that has a kanji search using kanji radicals. Very useful for when there is no furigana and you have no idea how the kanji is used/read :)

Saladesu gave a good explanation. :) It's a good idea to have an elementary school level knowledge of kanji at least.

I'm sorry to say, AnarchyComicsInc, that there's no kanji exempt from manga. In seinen/josei, they expect the readers to have already learnt kanji from their last year of high school so there will be complex vocabulary in those series. There will be no furigana to seinen/josei series as well. It will be easier to read shounen/shoujo with its furigana and simpler vocabulary.

However, the good thing about kanji is that you can understand them... without being able to read them. If you know the bushu (http://japanese.about.com/library/weekly/aa070101a.htm), you can have a general idea of what's being said.

I'm working on my first translation and I've come across a person who uses advanced kanji like crazy! At one point the guy thinks to himself:

また反射だけの
卑屈な謝罪や
礼言いやがったら
鬱陶しいな…

Which looks like it's half gibberish to me! As far as I know, what he's thinking is something like a huffy/stuck up way of saying "jeez, this guy is so unthankful/pathetic" but that's just my guess...


And later on another character thinks to himself:

ここここここ
ここで死んだら
アッシュに
殺される

Which is really confusing to me. I know he's referring to a character named Asch, and there's a lot about death in there... So is he saying he's worried that Asch is going to kill him or something?

Even though the whole Asch killing him after he's dead thing sounds weird at first, in the context of the manga the guy's worried because he still hasn't completed the task Asch gave him, so I think he's just being overly dramatic by saying that...

(1) I was not paying attention to that DISLIKE part before. Would it be "いやがったら?" by an chance? If so, that is not it.

Standard form for "礼言いやがったら" is　"礼を言ったら"
"言いやがったら" is just a rough way of saying "言ったら."

If s/he thanks (me/us e.t.c.)
If s/he shows gratitude

(2) I would just translate as is: "If I die here, Asch will kill me." You don't need to change the translation to "get mad at ..."

I don't know what manga this is from, and I'm most curious myself to see other responses 'coz I'm a noob myself, but I'll put in my 2 cents worth now that I'm here.

As far as I know, it's part of a name and the closest kanji I could find was "破."
I read the kanji as "破" as well.

From the text, I get the impression that a guy is basically teasing and calling a young miss (小娘) a "Master Rappa (お主乱破)" From what (very) little I know, rappa (乱破) is literally "chaotic destruction" but is used to refer to someone as being "wild and turbulent." (Note: http://honyaku.yahoo.co.jp/ translates "乱破" as "wild guy")


"暗殺行" I've translated it as assassin's guild, but I'm not entirely sure if it's right or not.
I think you're okay in translating it as "assassin's guild".

As for 暗殺行, I think it depends on the context, so I can't say anything for sure.

Just to be sure.... it is not 府警 but 婦警.
大変 - troublesome or difficult (as you translated) would work for the タイトル(title). For アソコ, proper translation depends on what アソコ is.

I tried to write them in japanese and here's what I've got so far (whenever a ? appears it's that I couldn't find that kanji)

The first line is probably some type of an imaginary animal as well. Dried whatever....

Abbreviated characters are often hard, but just go with the context.

The way you could handle this type of problems would be:

1) I can't read: 「日Xなのにごめんね！」
2) Let's check dictionaries.
3) Can't find it....
4-a) What would X be starting 日　in the context. なのに：even though/ごめんね：Sorry
5-a) The word must be 日曜 based on the context! or
4-b) The character must be abbreviated since I can't find it in the dictionary. The left side (radical) of kanji usually doesn't get abbreviated.
5-b) Let's think what kanji I know with 日 on the left side...　Maybe I'll need to check kanji dictionaries to see the list of kanji... Hmmm

The first one is ※ (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E2%80%BB). It's called "米印/kome-jirushi." If you have seen (注）, it's practically the same thing.

A 漫画家(manga artist) can be great at drawing, but may not be the best at the story creation part of manga or simply does not have enough time to do it all by him/herself. In such a case, a 作画家(artist) handles 作画(drawings) based on a(n) 原作者(author)'s work to create 漫画(manga). You can also use the word 作画 for anime.　

シナリオ(Scenario/Scripts) is a very popular style for 原作 (an original work). Others may use the novel style or the plot style.

Are you talking about the chart under 連載作品? I see 橋口たかし(漫画) instead (作画) for 最上の明医〜ザ・キング・オブ・ニート〜. When you click the title (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%9C%80%E4%B8%8A%E3%81%AE%E5%91%BD%E5%8C%BB), however, his name is listed under 作画。　I am not sure why it is specified as "漫画" to tell you the truth. Maybe somebody else can help you with it better.

Edit/Add:
Manga-ka who uses 原作 doesn't just fill in graphics, so there is always a lot of room to transform the original work into something else. The above mentioned title is based on medicine. He needed and sough medical information from specialists to make the manga realistic, but he might have had more initiative and involvement in the story making process.

I think the second is 間 (あいだ), but only from context and because the first character of the yomigana looks like either あ or お. 体 actually seems like it would fit for the first one, too.

That section of the page is defining a sports term that evidently doesn't have an English equivalent (at least according to several Japanese blog posts I found on the topic). Judging by the definitions I can find for the term, however, the above makes the most sense.

For the most part, I'm just having a bit of difficulty with the four kanji after 'omae'. I tried sharpening it and adjusting the levels, but it doesn't help much. The first kanji seems like it has 心 at the bottom, but no matches from midori. The second almost seems to have 虫 in the bottom-right. Other than that I haven't the faintest clue @.@.

Anyways, help is appreciated.

Ah, thanks again Mikkih ^_^. I was trying too hard to find out why I couldn't recognize the first kanji when the second would have given me the clue. It makes perfect sense given the character, so you got it right. Well, I guess I still have a bit of a ways to go in kanji recognition, but I'm getting there on the translation front.

You could identify a kanji in a sentence by context. Unless the one I suggested makes sense to you, you may want to list the whole sentence.

I also think we should be able to type all the abbreviated characters listed on Wiki　(link (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%95%A5%E5%AD%97)) for example. You can't display the character unlike ㋮, so I guess 广マ is the only way to type.
