Yo Tiff, been a while since my last visit here. How's things? You seriously need to get on IRC earlier sometimes, my day rythm is way too messed up for me to wake up early enough to catch you american night watchers.
On an unrelated note, if you haven't seen Game of Thrones, do watch it. Epic is the only word to describe the show.
I haven't, but I really, really want to. It looks amazing, totally my type of show. It will be the next series I watch, promise. :thumbs
We miss you guys in late night IRC. :( But it's understandable. I do need to try and get on IRC early more often when I can. I always have fun talking to the Euros. And if we can have some more impromptu Skype sessions, even better. :love
I'm such a good example, right.... riiiight? :3
Totally! Please teach...ummm...uhhhhh.....certain unnamed guys around here your ways. They need some help in doing the little things for girls that are so appreciated and that make a girl know she's important. ^^;;;
And GoT is something I strongly vouch for as well. You know how awesome Boardwalk Empire was tiff and how good I talked about it slash how much I forced you to catch up. Well this is just as epic, but in a completely different setting. It's this beautifully made epic fantasy that has nudity, sex, gore, action, drama, backstabbing politics and it's just a filthy piece of awesomeness. Take my word, you'll _love_ it.
Your rec is even more reason for me to check it out! :amuse
See? That happens all of the time.
And it's not "they"....it's "he" (me). I can only vouch for my own awesomeness :3c
:XD
Oh, come on... you know I can't favor you as being the only awesome male admin. :p
Tiffany.
I started reading Inuyasha. And I was surprised that I'm loving it! :nuts It's fantastic!
:clap
What'd you think? (I'm sure you're done with it by now xD) Inuyasha was my first anime and manga, so even though it's not my very favorite, it's very near and dear to my heart.
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, goodsy, how's your iPhone? No funny auto-corrections?
Nope, sorry to disappoint. :p Phone is still kicking, though, and working just fine~
Awww...Thank you for the pix.:glomp You really made my day.

Yes, I was talking exactly about Noblesse. I hope you do, last time you said you would read Veritas and The Breaker and its only been like two years, right :headscratch...BOI is a good series.
igotthegoods
July 25, 2011, 11:33 PM
Well, I did try out The Breaker as promised, if you recall. I read one volume. :p It was just ok for me at the time and not what I was actually in the mood to read. I may try it again some day when I'm in the mood for a fighting shounen-like story~

July 25, 2011, 11:44 PM
Most of the series aren't exciting or depicts how good they become afterwards. Anyway, apart from joking, its your own choice and I can not force you...damn it read Noblesse :guns XD. What I really loved about Veritas, The Breaker, and especially Noblesse is how the characters are drawn. They are interesting, and may be its me but I feel a little difference from regular Shounen characters. Noblesse has great characters honestly.
I suggested few series to Kaiten. All three of them are manhwa, only couple of chapters released for them. I am talking about Honorable Baek Dong Soo (K-drama adaptation - 2 chapters), Paladin (6 chapters), and A Fairytale for the Demon Lord (3 chapters including a prologue). All three of them have impressed me and I am having high expectations from them. You may like Paladin and A FT for the DL since you already like Vinland Saga.

If you're having an impromptu Skype session you should always PM me as I FW them to my mail on the phone, which means if I'm offline I might still very much be able to join you, which would be nice.

I like it when it takes more than ten minutes between the replies in a conversation as the discussion ends or "finishes" so much faster then. If there are a couple of days between the replies there are often more info in the posts being made which makes the conversation that much more interesting to read or follow in comparison to the shorter twitter-ish convos, even though both might be about the same topic. That's what I like about people who semi-neglect their threads.... Although you've taken the neglecting to a little too extreme point dontchathink? ;) /friendly bullying

***Walks up silently to shadowy figure that could just be the woman he was looking for. The background noise of the mundane life in the hospital just died out, so the mood was perfect as the air mixed with the strong scent of different medicine and acclaimed healing substances.
Getting closer, the shadow of the woman and the shapes behind her were slowly clearing up, and it seemed like solitude was written all over the empty scene. The bar was empty, some age old remains of Jack were still lingering in a bottle, furthermore the glass of the woman, stained by low quality cleaner and sorrowful loneliness, was on the verge of breaking.
The man grabbed the woman's hand, and with a firm move the trembling stopped, the glass just survived. The feeling of another person's skin on her skin, in the gruesome loneliness of the hospital bar affected her, like the first moments of sunrise; intrusive, yet warm.
The man nodded, showing his friendly intentions, slowly opened his mouth, and while the woman stopped her breath for a moment he said:

Well you know, sadly, it went downhill as Rumiko Takahashi dragged it on and on. :/ Such a sad turn-out for what could have been a great work. Now I think Ranma's way better, even if it's mostly gag, even if it had a loosely open ending.
Inuyasha started out really great. But ended 20 volumes too late. >.>

Noblesse ain't bad really, it's just that for me it looks like the author spends too much time flaunting how awesome Rai is, the previous lord Franky, M21 and Tao with Takeo are far more awesome. To be fair Rai also had several moments that made me rofl when he meets his archenemy (technological progress) but other than that so far his char has bbeen a little without "taste" for me, that is too say he shows too little personality.

This is personal opinion, but I think that is exactly why Rai is interesting. He is someone with great composure; so great that he rarely shows emotion or thoughts openly. I can understand what you said about too little personality; up to the latest chapters, we only get to see pieces of details of his past. But when he did show his emotions or thoughts, he did it in a way that just makes you feel 'wow'. And that you want to know more about him. :)
(Sorry for turning this into a Noblesse discussion, igotthegoods. :p)

I will interupt this interesting discussion to hijack the thread and shamefully promote some of my favorite series like always, watchanimeon got the first 11 eps of Igano Kabamaru recently and I just found out while looking for iketeru futari. Anyhow I strongly recomment Igano Kabamaru to everyone in the thread, I have seen the series over 50 times since I was a kid and for most of my childhood Kabamaru was my role model of what real men should be like (for most part) so Baboysai-san, Tiff-san, Danchou (it's more likely to check other people's threads before checking his own that damn Frenchman) and everyone else check it out, it's one of the most hilarious series you will find anyway.

August 09, 2011, 04:42 AM
Is that like what, DBZ coz it's from your childhood?
Drakno
August 09, 2011, 06:31 AM
I might be biased since it is after all from my childhood and since Kabamaru was one of the things that shaped my generation so it's not like I can get an unbiased opinion in my close enviroment but I think it's extremely funny. 3-4 eps should be enough to make an opinion (especially since one of my fav scenes the ebi fry fight is at ep 2) so I'll need a volunteer to tell us if it's really as good as I think. It's got a very funny honest straightforward and glutton of a ninja, romance, banchous, a very funny teacher and some scenes that cry out epic (the last one could be biased)

@babs - Yes, I did start HxH quite a while back and I love it. The newest chapters have been amazing. So glad the ant arc is over and done with. The king really turned out to be quite a complex and intriguing character.
@Dermie - Ging turning up was indeed a big surprise, but I fangirled like no other when Leorio returned. Such a great moment! Now I'm just waiting to see Kurapica again. He's my fave. :3

I think I'm satisfied for now. I only managed to watch two Toriko episodes last night since I suddenly got dragged into my project again, you know what. So I still got loads to catch up there! Looking through my list, I realize how much serious and heavy manga I read. :XD For something that actually is humor heavy, you could go with Saint Young Men (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=19610). Or for something completely different from what you probably normally read, you could try something like Piano no Mori (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=926). We did have a good time, but nothing too crazy. After dinner, we met up with Imi, went to the Empire State building, then wandered around looking at shops, checked out Rockefeller Center and tried to get as close as we could to Times Square. Then we headed out to the East Village to try and meet up with some people at a bar, but had some difficulties and ended up in a different bar to watch the ball drop at midnight. Didn't stay out too much longer (long story :p), which I know sounds lame, but we actually did have fun~

I agree. In fact, I have found NYE to be kind of a let-down type of holiday over the years. If you go out, you usually pay an exorbitant amount of money to get into some super crowded bar, where you're lucky to even get to the bar to order a drink or two. Then, you *might* end up with what equates to about a thimble full of free champagne to drink at midnight (part of the justification for charging such a high cover). :darn
Most of my best NYEs have been spent at low-key gatherings at a friend's place. I would've been doing the same this year, had I not been in NYC. :nod

It's the same every year. NYE is always hyped to ridiculous levels only to turn into a disappointment almost every time. I had a nice time this time, but what you described above has happened many times too. We basically stress over here that expectations should be kept low. I was in Oslo once, which is like 1/100 of New York City, but even so the bars were of course crowded to the max which is really not that enjoyable.
Indeed, that or at private parties. As long as the guest list isn't too large and controlled it has potential to be a successful party. It's all about the company you're with really :nod

If you mean all-time favorite show, it's probably a toss-up between Mr. Show with Bob and David and Arrested Development. Lost is up there too.

hi tiff!
happy 2012!
How was your year? I'm sure someone has already asked you that but seeing how popular your thread is... I don't wanna scroll back :p It feels good to be back home after tedious work in a foreign country, and especially feels great that I'd been able to go online again! After ages! And it's taking me DAYS to get my manga downloads back on track- I haven't even begun reading to catch up! :shakefist
how about your manga reading for this year?
igotthegoods
January 08, 2012, 09:36 PM
Welcome back! :hug
Nobody's asked me about my year yet, actually, so no worries there (am I really still popular? xD). To be perfectly honest, last year was kind of a blur, especially August on. A few really good things happened, like finally getting my own permanent store to work at and being able to host a really fun mod meet. But overall, I can't say that 2011 was one of my favorites, unfortunately. I'm hoping 2012 will be better... and that we get a 2013. xD
Manga reading? I almost forget what that is. :sweatbunny I've barely read any manga at all for months now. It's so bad that I'm not even caught up with the big 3... I'm about 3-4 chapters behind on each one of them. I'm only caught up with HxH out of all of my usual weeklies. It's not that I love it any less, I think I need to get my routine back... or something. It's hard to explain. :s
What are you going to read first?

Thank you, thank you. :bow Had to bring it back with the sequel. This is one of my top two favorite avys I've ever used (the other being the Ling avy I used to use way back when <3). Seriously, though, it's quite popular. I used to get multiple PMs daily asking where it was from. xD

I watched early this afternoon. I fanboyed. Everything you liked about Bakemonogatari is back, though I would say this episode was basically a prologue to the new series. I'm already craving episode 2.
I will say that episode 1 would not make a damn bit of sense to anyone who did not watch Bakemonogatari. There is not even the barest of attempts to introduce the franchise to the uninitiated.
Still no word on when Kizumonogatari will be in theaters :(

I'm having second thoughts about that prologue- since what I really wanted was the sequel, lol.
so this uh... reading list. how does it work, exactly? haha. Well, I just open my folders one by one to see where I read last.
My system goes: I have a "TO READ" folder where all downloads go. and as I've read from this folder I transfer them to my archives which are organized as complete or ongoing. Each has subfolders of series and one-shots. Then series are categorized according to demographic.

I know we already talked about this on IRC, but I watched the first ep and loved it, too. I found myself feeling very nostalgic. <3 I thought it was kind of nice to have this little prologue, actually, instead of just jumping right into the real story. But, like you said, if you hadn't seen the first series, you'd be totally lost. I haven't checked to see if ep 2 is out yet or not, but I think it should be soon, no?
Boo for no word on the movie yet. :(

That does sound like a pretty good system, actually. The online lists have a few extra benefits, imo, like letting you make a wish list of what you want to read in the future as well as letting you know if there are newly scanlated chapters that you haven't read (in MU's case). The second one is why I finally switched over to using MU exclusively. Much more useful, especially since I'm always behind on everything. :XD You can also make custom lists using MU, but I haven't ever taken the time to sit down and do that. I may in the future if I ever get the motivation to do so. Currently, I have a reading list, on hold list, completed list, wish list, and unfinished (dropped) list.
What are you reading right now, btw?

Sorry, I don't watch it. :sweat I'm not sure it's really my cup of tea. I've only watched it one time on purpose, the premiere of the latest season. And even then it was only out of curiosity. I'm sure it was better when Charlie Sheen was on the show, but man that episode was terrible. :fail

Well, the science of Pastry is quite anal. 2 grams off on the baking soda and your cookies would taste different. Or too much butter and the crust breaks, etc. etc. They need to weigh all these things. And a different degree of patience is required >.< You need to have a different temperament or mood too, to be able to work in pastry. You need to be happy and light and gay or something.

Actually it doesn't need someone to be light and happy for making pastry, if anything for me the exact opposite is true, I always was a perfectionist down to the last gram and down to the last second and when I am annoyed with something or simply in a foul mood it's that much easier to brand a try as a failure and start again till it's perfect, after a few days precision naturally.

Oooo, amuse bouche! I always love those little bites. That would be tough to be creative every single day. Do you ever just take one you've already done and slightly tweak it to make something sort of new? I'd imagine you'd have to after a while.

Yay for post #1900~ Yes, I'm still on version 1 of my thread. I'd certainly be on at least version 2 if I would actually pay attention to this thing regularly, like I used to. :sweat
Regarding baking vs cooking, I do very little of both, but I'm probably a better baker. Or, at least, I think I feel a little more comfortable baking because of the exactness needed in the ingredients. I can follow a recipe easily, but I don't really know how to put flavors together on my own and improvise. I think it's the chemistry nerd in me. xD

Craaaaap, I have been sick for 3 days now with an extremely annoying flu, I ate nothing on the first two days cause of my throat ache, I ordered a soup yesterday and forced myself to eat it but after coughing for 50-60 secs constantly I threw it up (dunno if it's normal but I always throw up after extensive coughing whether it's from a cold or chocking), my joints hurt and I have only been getting 3-4 hours of sleep each day cause I end up chocking from the flegms in my sleep (or at least that would explain why I always wake up feeling more tired than when I went to sleep with unstoppable coughing and a LOT of flegms), furthermore due the lack of sleep I have been having terrible headaches...... After all this torture I decided I would walk 3 km to the closest pharmacy whose location I know while my joints are still killing me to buy medicine today for my cold since the weather is better (or the fever dropped, one of the two, point is I'm not feeling like I'm in a fridge), frankly I don't care about the fever, the joint aches, the throat or anything else, I just want to know what is the absolutely unrivaled in strength medicine to get rid of the flegms, not a good pleasant tasting medicine I would be recommended for usual colds, I want the Chuck effing Norris of the mucolytics, I don't care for any side effects (unless it's constant coughing and insomnia which defeats the purpose) I wanna know what to ask for to sleep till I am satisfied and not wake up with that disgusting taste in my mouth....

They did, indeed. Sucks, but what can you do? Peyton probably doesn't have much time left to play and they currently have the number 1 overall draft pick, so it may be the best for the team in the long run to start rebuilding now. Hopefully Andrew Luck will live up to the hype, since it's looking like he's going to be that pick. Whether or not there is enough talent in the rest of the team to support him, is the other question. Peyton wasn't the only player to be released. :darn

But Jonah Hill? I have to disagree there. He's been pretty awesome in everything I've ever seen him in, starting from the creepy kid in 40 year old virgin who wanted to buy the sequined boots from the ebay store. :XD What haven't you liked him in?

Jonah Hill is jut awesome, doesn't have to try, he manages to make you burst out in laughter effortlessly. I still remember him in Knocked Up and Superbad. He's got that awkward humour about him :lmao

I loved Jonah Hill in Superbad, but otherwise he's kinda been a miss in a lot of things for me. It's not so much that I didn't like him; it was more he just kinda blended into everything for me. I don't find too many of his roles very memorable.

I think his supporting roles are often lacking, so I somewhat agree. But Superbad trumps like everything else

Superbad was epic, but I agree with Bob. Jonah Hill is just hilarious to me in pretty much everything he's done. Just something about him, I guess. That reminds me, I still need to see Get Him to the Greek. I've heard it's hilarious and that P. Diddy was a surprising scene stealer.

Tiff watch it! P Diddy is hilarious in it! who knew he could do comedy?! well he's basically playing himself as how people imagine him to be but it's hilarious.

You saw the new 21 jump street film... and liked it? It's an abomination to all that's holy. Original 80s show was craptastic with the glorious, unforgettable performances by Depp and DeLuise. It's probably one of the best shows I've ever seen in my life. Period. It's just so... Brilliant.
I will never, EVER watch the film. I am mad.

Lol. I was just going to say that Sai was also boycotting the film due to the original show, but we convinced him it was worth watching. Sorry, blai, I would still recommend it. Seriously!

which things push your patience to the limits?? :3c
Ha. That's a hard question to answer. But a good one! There are many things and it depends on my current stress level as well as the situation. I do work in retail with the general public after all. >.> But I think the thing that most pushes my patience is that moment when I realize that thing (whatever it may be) I've been patiently waiting for just isn't coming. Man, that's the worst. And the people I love the most are usually the ones who cause the most frustration. I'm a much more passionate person than my easy going nature probably shows.

Honestly, when I watched it, I didn't even think of the original show. It just felt like a hilarious R-rated comedy. I think that if you totally separate the two in your mind, you'll be able to enjoy it. :nod

There's actually a joke concerning the address in it. The movie is just a nod to the original series. They took the concept, loosely mind you, and turned it into an R-rated comedy. It's fucking fantastic. Depp and DeLuise have cameos in it too.
It sort of reminds me of how they remade Starsky & Hutch only it's less spoofy. It's its own story.

Belgium's president who's tired to have french people making fun of his country go to see Sarkozy to offer him a deal:
-"we're tired of you making fun of us, so we want you to do something so the Belgians can also make fun of the French"
Sarkozy decided to build a bridge in the desert. for years Belgians will laugh and mock the French
One day Belgian's president return to see Sarkozy and says:
-"Thank you for the bridge, we had fun, you can destroy it now"
Sarkozy's answer:
-"to destroy the bridge, i need to remove Belgian's fishermen who settled on it"

no I didn't go over to his house, no way. Nor did I invite him over. And to be sure, there was another guy, the butcher, who went for drinks with us. We went drinking at a pub a block from my building. It's just that, after the drinks were paid for, the butcher left, and I was left with the other guy, who, all of a sudden, blurted out all these embarrassing awkward stuff. -_-
And it's not that I drink too much. I just.. have had lower tolerance lately. Getting old, it seems. :sweatdrop
