Hey all! I'm the newest Bleach mod around here. Since being modded, I've been hearing such things like "I really need a nickname for you" or "What should I call you?" I think these are just polite ways to say "Your username sucks." :XD And well, I kind of agree. Originally it was supposed to be an homage to my favorite TV show (Mr. Show with Bob and David) but no one ever gets it, and the funniness has really worn off for me. So why not come over here and help me choose a new one? And while you're at it, ask me some questions about myself. I'm pretty friendly and easy-going so ask whatever you like. I'm not easily offended, but if you're out of line, I'll let you know ;)

Let's be friends! :hug

FIRST ONE HERE!!!! And congratz on becoming a mod. :amuse

As for your nickname, is it okay if I call you Gogo? :XD Or Goodsy, take your pick.

And for questions, pretty much the basic ones:

Favourite mangas?
Favourite animes?
Favourite TV show?
Favourite Bleach character, since you're a Bleach mod.

As for your nickname, is it okay if I call you Gogo? :XD Or Goodsy, take your pick.
honestly, i don't care. i haven't heard gogo as an option yet, so maybe that could be your personal name for me ;)

Favourite mangas?
so tough to choose on the spot, but i'll go with bleach, naruto, fma, es21, one piece

Favourite animes?
bleach, naruto, fma, cowboy bepop, samurai champloo, lucky star, and most recently gintama :nuts

Favourite TV show?
already answered that in my first post, silly. it's mr. show with bob and david from hbo. it's kind of a cult favorite and could be considered a bit off-beat and offensive to some, but i absolutely love it.

Favourite Bleach character, since you're a Bleach mod.
urahara, of course :love

(i might edit my manga and anime choices later...)

Alright, gogo. :XD

I see three of the big four.... You don't read DGM??

bleach, naruto, fma, cowboy bepop, samurai champloo, lucky star, and most recently gintama :nuts

You sure do like your manga-related animes, how are you finding Gintama??

Oops, missed that point from the first post. :XD Sorry about that.

urahara, of course :love

Then your favourite besides Urahara??

(i might edit my manga and anime choices later...)

Yep, sure, no prob. :D

I see three of the big four.... You don't read DGM??

just because it's not in my list of favorites, doesn't mean i don't read it. i like it, but it's mostly just ok for me, sorry!

You sure do like your manga-related animes, how are you finding Gintama??

i guess, but i've actually only read the manga for bleach, naruto, and fma out of that list. the gintama anime is actually my current project and i love it so far. top-notch humor :)

have you seen it? if so, what's your opinion?

Then your favourite besides Urahara??

ichimaru gin is a close second <3

your nickname is fine as is. Anyway, I don't even get it why some people change usernames. That's as strange as someone deciding on a whim to call himself P. Diddy.

But if you insist, you can brainstorm and post them here, and we'll help you narrow your choices.

i haven't seen the reborn anime yet, but i just caught up to the manga last week actually. i do like it, but i wouldn't rank it as one of my favorites at the moment (even though the guys are hot :nuts).

my favorite character is probably gokudera. i tend to think of him as kind of an underdog, so i just kind of want to root for him, you know?

Gogo? From Final Fantasy 6? xD
argh, i haven't played ff6 yet, so i didn't get it.......i need to do something about that :darn

Haven't seen the anime, but I've read some of the manga, and from what I've read, it's really good, it's sooo funny at some bits. I needa get more Gintama, and watch the anime, if I have time. :XD

Whatever your new nick will be, Iggy, I'm pretty sure it'll be a great one, since you've shown you had great taste by reading ES21 :p Can't say my questions are original either, but here I go nonetheless~
Favorite ES21 characters?
Favorite ES21 scenes?
Cerberos or the Devilbat?
If Soul Society had an American football team, what position do you think Urahara would play? :D

Gold Knight
July 06, 2008, 01:11 PM
Xophy, I dunno if Urahara can play football. Some people just aren't meant to play sports XD He'd probably be better off as an offensive or defensive coordinator...

Oh, and just to quickly enlighten you, igtg:

I found you being called 'Gogo from FF6' amusing because he looks like this:

http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/5/59/195px-Ff6_gogo.jpg

And nobody knows what "his" sex is - whether he's a man or woman, because of all the clothing he's wearing.

Questions!

What was your favorite arc of Naruto?
Which do you like more, the Soul Society stories or normal Karakura Town stories?
Are you sad that FMA is ending soon, or excited about the conclusion?
Do you have a guilty pleasure? :p

And since Xophy mentioned football, do you follow it (American version that is)?

igotthegoods

Favorite ES21 characters?
hiruma is my clear favorite, but i also like kid, taki, sena, and most recently, karin. oh, and i looove to hate agon ;)

Favorite ES21 scenes?
so hard to choose...there's too many good ones and i know i'm forgetting tons....well, some that stick out are: 1) the scene where hiruma throws the ice cube in the water for yukimitsu during the race to the top of the tower. 2) when sena finally reveals himself as es21. 3) any and all hiruma x mamori moments.....i'm such a sucker for this pair! :darn

Cerberos or the Devilbat?
hmmm....devilbat?

If Soul Society had an American football team, what position do you think Urahara would play? :D
i agree with gk on this one (he beat me to it :shakefist) that urahara strikes me more as a behind-the-scenes type that calls the shots, like the ones he mentioned. or i don't know, maybe he's in charge of special teams or something. i just don't see a football player in him, although we still don't know the extent of what he can do (a big part of his appeal for many).

Oh, and just to quickly enlighten you, igtg:

hatsu!! :yelling :shakefist

What was your favorite arc of Naruto?
it sucked me in from the very beginning, so i love all of part I :) the land of waves arc and the chuunin exams are probably my favorites if i had to narrow it down. the land of waves had such great antagonists in zabuza and haku, but the chuunin exams introduced orochimaru and had some of the best fights we've seen so far (plus lots of shikamaru :love).

Which do you like more, the Soul Society stories or normal Karakura Town stories?
i prefer the soul society stories without question. after patiently suffering through the hueco mundo arc, it was sooo nice to get back to soul society with the gaiden!

Are you sad that FMA is ending soon, or excited about the conclusion?
i have mixed feelings about this, but i think i'm mostly excited to unravel all the mysteries and for ed and al to get their bodies back to normal (if they do). i'll miss it when it's done, though.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? :p
oh yeah, probably too many to count -_-; i'll list just a few:

even though i know you can't relate to this one, i love 80's music....and yes i mean the cheesy power ballads and hair bands. all of it. what can i say? i'm a child of the 80's :p

i also love reading about celebrity gossip, even though i know most of it's not even true....just a guilty pleasure

oh, and ice cream from coldstone creamery! :drool

And since Xophy mentioned football, do you follow it (American version that is)?
yes, i do follow football to some degree. i'm not a fanatic or anything, but i do like it very much! (for the record, we only need to refer to it as football here in my thread. football is football, and soccer sucks is soccer :XD). for the NFL, i'm a colt's fan. :amuse yes, i live in chicago, but i grew up in indiana. it was certainly interesting during the colts/bears superbowl. my best friend and i were the only ones at the party we went to who were rooting for the colts.......good thing we kicked their ass, hehe. for college football, i actually went to 2 big ten schools (indiana and purdue) so i root for both of them. it's a given that indiana always sucks, but purdue is usually pretty decent even though they haven't been very good the last couple of years.....and probably won't be again this year :darn

How's summer's weather? Do you like it?
summer weather is nice, but sometimes it's too hot and humid for my taste. i prefer the coolness of the fall, but the lake effect wreaks havoc on every season around here. sometimes it's hard to distinguish :XD

aren't you in chicago, too (if i remember correctly)? i'm sure you understand....

Do you watch anime more than reading manga or the other way around?

it goes in cycles, but generally i read more manga. i've been trying to read the manga first on most things, but there are some where i just go straight for the anime based on recs (lucky star, geass, haruhi, gintama, etc). what about you?

Oh well, your name is indeed a little bit too long to remember. >.< Get a nickname or something. hahaha. j/k

I'll recommend you some titles:

Bitter Virgin
Nana
Desire Climax
Deep Love

These are a must read and are some good starters for a shoujo first trial!

After all this I'll ask you another question... Under influence so maybe you don't have to answer this one:

-What's your real name?

Ah, don't mind about your username, is good, I think!

Now.... How come you -as a female human being- :loool don't have any idea on what shoujo is! My brain can't imagine how a manga loving girl don't have interests on this fine art of feelings and drama!
hehe, yeah i know. i kind of equate shoujo to chick flicks, which i like (the last movie i saw was sex and the city), but don't generally choose over other genres. tbh, i'd rather watch stuff like comic book movies (can't wait to see the dark knight at the imax :nuts). i know i'm weird.....thanks for the recs anyway. i think i'm going to try nana as my next shoujo :)

After all this I'll ask you another question... Under influence so maybe you don't have to answer this one:
DO you like YAOI manga!

i don't mind answering :amuse actually, i've never read any yaoi. i've warmed up to the idea of it a little bit, but i'm not really into it or anything. i do occasionally find fan arts that are nice....i mean, if the characters are attractive and the situation is appealing, it's hard to object *blush* but i do prefer those that leave a little to the imagination ;)

it's funny since i've only posted 1 fairly tame yaoi pic here (in kado's thread, mind you) and BOOM the next day i'm modded. i can't help but wonder if that was the secret all along! :rofl

Congrats again! and I think I've got a name for ya'NNN! But I'll keep it a secret!

yeah! i like it! :lovebunny

-What's your real name?
my real name is tiffany....what's yours? is it pat? oh yeah, and thanks for stopping by :hug

-Favorite food?
i don't think i have a specific favorite food.....maybe my mom's lasagna :drool

-Your opinions about Hueco Mundo arc, please!
well, i think i said something about suffering through it earlier, but that maybe a little harsh. it was just more tedious reading it week to week. i think it's better if you read it as a whole. i won't go into too much specifically, but if you want my opinions on the shortcomings of the arc, gigantor21 made a fantastic post (http://mangahelpers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=934197#post934197) over in the bleach hangout thread that i thoroughly agree with. it's not my favorite arc, but there were some good moments. i think the highlight was the fight between rukia and aaroniero. it was such an emotional fight! unfortunately, i do think the victory was a bit cheap...sorry!

-Do you think Ichigo is able to win Ulquiorra in the next fight?

as he is now? i'm not so sure. ichigo overpowered ulq when he first put on the mask (though ulq wasn't released or even using his zanpaktou) and now he we know he can last an unspecified amount of time longer. however, ulq's true power level (he's probably a vasto lorde) as well as any special abilites of his release are both unknowns. what it boils down to imo, is that ichigo is probably going to have to evolve in some way or add another skill in his repertoire in order to defeat him. what are your thoughts?

Ah, don't mind about your username, is good, I think!
thanks.......there's not a 100% chance i'm gonna change it. i wasn't going to start my ask me thread so soon, but i kept getting bugged about what people should call me, so i thought "eh, what the hell. i'll put it up and have everyone else choose for me" :XD

in his actual state, I think Vizard Ichigo is able to take down only an unreleased Ulquiorra, and how he'll defeat the released state is where lies the problem, but like I said in other post, this battle has all the ingredients to be epic: the tower, the most powerful enemy in HM and Orihime's life!

Unfortunately, I've spent so much time there talking with the employees that they know more about me than most of the people I know, so they call me by my first name since a long time ago already :XD (since the great thing with that store is that they have a part with tables and chairs and serves non-alcoholic drinks, and since it's a hundred of meters away from my university, I spent a lot of time there >.>)

And for the record, they'd call me Legendary Man C, I guess. With only 850+ volumes, I can't compete against my two best friends with 1500+ and 1300+ respectively :sweat
*swish* that joke was nothing but net, hehe. i really am shocked that you have friends with more manga than you (i've seen pictures of your room, after all :jk). i bet you still have more figurines than they do, or at least better ones :nuts

That brings up another question I guess, Tiff, do you have much manga - or do you just read scanlations? Do you own a lot of anime DVDs? Do you plan to build on all that? xD
i own.......none. i'm such a leecher -_-;
i might like to have a little bit, i think, but i feel like i don't know where to start. there's quite a bit of censoring in the english releases anyway, isn't there? i'm not sure i'd like that so much. has that impacted the quality of anything you've bought?

Ah, but Xophy probably owns more figurines (and posters) than his friends do...? >_> If their friends have more, their rooms must be bigger!

Well, a little bit of censoring I suppose. Yeah. In fact, in the last magazine of American Shonen Jump... well, check it out. XD

(Original - from M7 scanlation)

Talk about being prudes, huh? XD

I guess I'm not as bothered by it because I do have access to the original material (thanks to our scanlator community) and I buy the manga to support the mangaka in the first place anyway.

That's because you read the rest online >_>

Actually, I don't >.>; Nowadays I only keep up with barely five mangas online (ES21, OP, Dogashi, Bleach and Naruto), the other mangas I read are only the ones I own personally :oh That's my way of thanking the mangakas :noworry

*swish* that joke was nothing but net, hehe. i really am shocked that you have friends with more manga than you (i've seen pictures of your room, after all :jk). i bet you still have more figurines than they do, or at least better ones :nuts

Yup, at least on the number of bishoujo figures, I'm second to none :nod

Ah, but Xophy probably owns more figurines (and posters) than his friends do...? >_> If their friends have more, their rooms must be bigger!

Actually, my friend with 1500+ volumes has also a decent number of figures, and his room is about half as big as mine :sweat It's just that he has shelves on every walls >.>;

About all the assumptions I'm making about you Xophy, I'm just having fun with you really. :D Don't take anything I say too seriously.

Now I'm curious about what your friend's room looks like, though - heh.

New questions for Tiffany while we're on the subject of rooms... is your room always clean, or is it usually messy? Could we tell it's a girl's room if we saw it? What kind of posters do you have up on the walls? Anything special or unique about your room? xD

my room's usually a bit messy, but nothing too terrible. the mess is mostly just clothes scattered about (i have waaaay too many :darn). a walk-in closet was actually one of my top priorities when apartment hunting -_-;

it's not super-decorated or anything so i don't really have much on the walls, but you can tell it's a girl's room. i have a couple of candles on the dresser but that's about it. i guess the highlight of my room is really my bed. it's a queen-size cherry sleigh bed with an amazing pillow-top mattress that requires extra-deep sheets.....i have a friend that refers to it as my "princess bed." it's super comfortable and reeeally hard to get out of in the morning. although, i suppose it doesn't help that i'm not much of a morning person to begin with :XD

sheesh, debbie downer. thanks for the "well-wishing" i guess -_-; but why are you complaining to gk in my thread? anyway, i didn't see anyone rubbing anything in anyone's face :oh

oh yes, i'm very excited for a new chapter! and of course you know i read the spoilers (i'm weak! :darn). i'll spoiler tag my thoughts just to keep things kosher, though ;)

the spoilers seem to be more of a tease than usual....really short. so far, what i've really taken from them is that things aren't looking too good for orihime. it seems to be some obvious foreshadowing continued from the previous chapter. the death of a major character seems long overdue anyway. not that i particularly want anyone to die, but it's good for the story and such. your thoughts?

ok, answers to your questions:
1. hmmmm hard to choose 5. in no particular order: i'll say lotr trilogy, the usual suspects, office space, the shawshank redemption, and the breakfast club

2. video games i assume? again hard to choose, but i'll list a few of my favorite series': final fantasy, grand theft auto, ratchet and clank, god of war, and sly cooper.

3. well, me and god aren't all that close ^^;; i wasn't brought up in a very religious household, although i was taught to have good morals and such. i just wasn't forced to believe in any particular religion. that, and my naturally skeptical nature, have left me unsure about the existence of god. i'm not an atheist or anything. i would really love to believe there's something out there, but i'm just a person who has a hard time taking a large leap of faith. just call me an agnostic ;)

4. rock/alternative, ftw

5. no way! more like fashionista! :noworry j/k. actually, i think i dress pretty well, but nothing spectacular. i don't think i break too many fashion laws. i just try to stay current with whatever trends work for me and i get a fair amount of compliments. i do have more clothes than the average person, though -_-;

6. either blue or green......hmmm, i'll say blue

7. friday is my favorite day of the week, and not only because it's raw day (that's just an awesome bonus). it's always been my favorite day.....the start of the weekend :nuts

8. ummm.....errr.....*blush* maaayyybe.....i'll leave this kinda vague. it feels weird to talk about such things here, sorry :redface

9. of course i'm a good girl! ;)

10. yes, i have strong friendships and i think i'm pretty darn good at making friends in general. as for romantic relationships, i'm very independent and a firm believer that being single is better than being in a bad relationship. i'm the marrying type of girl, though :amuse i just don't like to waste my time with guys that aren't worth it >.>

2. video games i assume? again hard to choose, but i'll list a few of my favorite series': final fantasy, grand theft auto, ratchet and clank, god of war, and sly cooper.
Great sense of gaming... With God of War on the list... What's With Devil May Cry; Resident Evil; Silent Hill; Metal Gear Solid...? These are game experience! I highly recommande Resident Evil 4 and Metal Gear Solid 3!

About that; this question isn't religion oriented... But you should know in your inner self if there's a God or no... Maybe some documention on religions should help you...

And you're interested in spiritual things... You're a wise and cool heade person I think! (based on your choice of colors) ^^

it's so not cool when you have to explain the joke -_-;

so, like i said in my first post, i got it from my favorite tv show (mr. show). it's a sketch comedy show that used to be on hbo. well, there's one particular episode where there's a running joke throughout the sketches where one character says "you got the goods" and the other one responds with "really?"

yeah, it sounds lame even when i describe it.....i guess you have to be there. just chalk it up to my failed attempt at humor....

Hmm... questions... did I read correctly that you've never read any shoujo that you liked (or was it that you've never read any shoujo period)? Ever try Vampire Knight? It's what I'd describe as a shoujo for shonen-lovers, as it has quite a bit more action than typical shoujo series.

What's your OTP in Bleach (if you care about such things)? What about over all manga?

Have you ever read any shonen-ai or yaoi manga/doujinshis?

I agree about AS being pretty, whether it is the art or the events or the incredibly cheesy lines that are so incredibly well placed that brings a tear to your eye or the depth of all characters no matter what the criteria are AS is the greatest manga ever...

i haven't read any josei yet, so i don't know where i stand when it comes to that genre. i have a feeling i'd probably like it better than shoujo, but i don't know. any recs?

well, glad you like it :amuse no sense in changing now, plus it doesn't really matter what you go by as long as you're identifiable, right? i do like tifa-chan as a nick, especially since i actually was more of a tifa fan. my in-game date was with aerith, though somehow >.>

first xophy recommends vk and now you. i might just have to try it out. you're certainly speaking my language with the "shoujo for shounen lovers" thing :nuts

What's your OTP in Bleach (if you care about such things)? What about over all manga?
hmm, i don't really have an OTP in bleach per se. if i had to choose, i'd say maybe urahara x yoruichi or rukia x renji. with ichigo, i don't really care who he ends up with. either way is fine. don't get me wrong, i like the romance, but i'm not a hardcore shipper in general.

however, the one pair i can't get enough of is hiruma x mamori from es21. it's just so perfectly done. i love it :love

Have you ever read any shonen-ai or yaoi manga/doujinshis?
nope, sorry. i haven't really gotten into yaoi ^^;

What's your favorite novel?
omg, too many. i love reading, even if i don't do it as much as i used to (aside from manga of course -_-;). i love lots of classics like to kill a mockingbird, pride and prejudice, and catcher in the rye, among many others.....i also like classic greek stuff like the iliad and the odyssey (i have a classical studies minor after all ;)).

my favorite current author is probably david sedaris. his creative non-fiction work is amazing :nuts

i haven't read any josei yet, so i don't know where i stand when it comes to that genre. i have a feeling i'd probably like it better than shoujo, but i don't know. any recs?

The top two in my list are Nodame Cantabile by Tomoko Ninomiya and Spicy Pink by Yoshizumi Wataru. They're both great stories :nuts Thing is, if you're particular about the Art, Nodame Cantabile might be a little hard to love. Unless you watch the jdorama first.

which brings me to a new question: Do you watch jdorama/kdrama? if so, which ones to you like?

however, the one pair i can't get enough of is hiruma x mamori from es21. it's just so perfectly done. i love it :love

I agree! Though there isn't enough air time to feed my fangirly side for this pairing :darn

omg, too many. i love reading, even if i don't do it as much as i used to (aside from manga of course -_-;). i love lots of classics like to kill a mockingbird, pride and prejudice, and catcher in the rye, among many others.....i also like classic greek stuff like the iliad and the odyssey (i have a classical studies minor after all ;)).

wow I also like those classics, tiffany! I wonder if you've read Wuthering heights? Although yeah, I enjoy pride and prejudice best. I've read that book 4 times now, and what's stopping me from reading into my 5th is that my book got lost. :s

Danchou also recommented Angel Sanctuary and more or less all of Kaori Yuki-sama's works so try AS first :oh

Yep I finished the whole thing in one go without a break for food, water or even going to the toilet the first time and since then I have re-read it another 6 times :amuse

ah, you're right. he did :noworry

well, no work for me tomorrow, so it would be a perfect opportunity to marathon some manga. perhaps it'll be AS, i don't know yet (gah, i'm too indecisive! :darn). but i assure you that i'll be stopping for food and trips to the toilet :XD i guess i'm not as hardcore as you....

like i said, it was just ok. i think i decided to try it from some rec i saw from nami, who i figured was pretty much the shoujo expert around here. i thought maybe i'd just try shoujo and smut in one go (killing two birds and such) since i hadn't tried either genre yet. i think maybe i just picked the wrong story. but yeah, i'm ok with the smutty stuff....if you're in the right mood and all :p

i'm not terribly picky about art to be honest. i have no artistic talent whatsoever, so anything out there is better than what i could do. i have no room to criticize. story is more important to me, although beautiful art is a nice bonus that i do certainly appreciate :noworry

and i haven't seen any jdoramas/kdramas, sorry >.>

Danchou's rule number 6 : When indecisive, read both :oh Vampire Knight is a quickie read, not longer than 9 volumes so far, and just great overall, while Angel Sanctuary has the advantage of being already over, and while needing a lot more time to read (it's almost Death Note-like as far as amount of text is concerned >.>), it's still fun and epic to be fascinating :shakefist I would have recommended Nana too, but I've dropped it. Not because I didn't like it (as a matter of fact, I did, and quite a lot), but because I didn't like where it was going at all :oh

hmm, i don't really have an OTP in bleach per se. if i had to choose, i'd say maybe urahara x yoruichi or rukia x renji. with ichigo, i don't really care who he ends up with. either way is fine. don't get me wrong, i like the romance, but i'm not a hardcore shipper in general.

Understandable. I have no idea who I'd pick for Bleach either. There's so many potential parings there that I don't have a favorite. I like Urahara/Yoruich too though.

i'm looking for a more quick read first, so VK it is.

Good choice. It's only 40-ish chapters, so you'll catch up in no time.

Out of all the other recs you got, I'd probably second Nana (but only if you want an angst overdose) and Ouran High School Host Club (but only if you want something silly and plotless that satirizes itself and other shoujo stereotypes). If you do want to check out Ouran, I'd recommend trying the anime first (one season long and "complete"), because it's made of total win. <3

Yeah, seriously, I can't stand that pairing. Mostly because I can't see any reason why Kakashi would be attracted to Iruka, even if he was gay. Plus, they only had like one scene together ("they are no longer your students. They are now my soldiers.") and from that, a monster was spawned.

That's not to say I don't kinda understand how it happened though. Since they both have Naruto in common, there's plenty of easy opportunity for them to interact in a fanfic world. And yaoi fangirls are the type that will pair together any two males, as long as they've had at least a passing interaction. (I'm still trying to figure out the logic behind Hiruma/Rui, ugh.)

Erm, Kay-chan, I think that from the start the word "logic" wasn't in the fangirling dictionary^^;

Touché.

Still, you'd be impressed at the complexity of the convoluted arguments and backwards logic applied to many fangirls' ship manifestos. Especially the ones where there's almost no canon interaction between the characters. They're sometimes so illogical that they border on being ingenious.

the fit between Iruka's protective, nuturing heart and Kakashi's lonely, nearly broken soul is a recipie for happy endings. Likewise Kakashi's kick-ass awesomeness with Iruka's somewhat vulnerable side. It's a good match, rife with happy endings.

:rofl

Still, if you're at all curious to read a good one, this Sasu/Naru manifesto (http://community.livejournal.com/ship_manifesto/127713.html#cutid1) is fantastic and remarkably unbiased. (But then, I'm biased, so I could be biased about it being unbiased... >.>)

ah, i see. that was a pretty great scene (sakura = fujoshi, who knew?). did it feel like enlightenment when you discovered it? like, "i found what was missing in my life....yaoi" or something like that? :XD i guess i could ask the same question to xophy (and bb? :blink) regarding yuri....

this is true, but it seems like it doesn't matter which 2 characters are briefly interacting (regardless of sex or orientation), they can still end up in a pair. yaoi fangirls are probably just more adamant about it.

and hiruma x rui makes me :iik

But I'm glad to see that at least you're not totally opposed to the idea of Naru/Sasu. (It's my favorite, sorry... I get a little irrational if someone insults it). :XD
nah, i wouldn't insult this pairing. do i think it will ever happen? no. even though we don't really know where sasuke stands, we know for sure that naruto likes the ladies. but there is at least a basis for putting these two together. you know, the lengths they go for each other or, well stuff like this (http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/233/17/). when you look at all the evidence, while unlikely, this pair is not so far out of the realm of possiblity ;)

why, gantz keeping you too busy? ahahaha. er, yeah. it's a headache. :oh

:yaha right!! more for the zero camp!
yep, i'm almost caught up now, and it's still zero, ftw :love

Sounds yuri :oh
well yeah, if you're looking for yuri at all times :oh

Erm, Kay-chan, I think that from the start the word "logic" wasn't in the fangirling dictionary^^;
true, i think they replaced "logic" with "kya!" or something :XD

They're sometimes so illogical that they border on being ingenious.
:rofl i'm cracking up at this sentence.....

Still, the thought of entertaining a Naru/Sasu pairing scares me *shivers*
really? i know you don't like yaoi, but is it just the thought of gayness or what?

really? i know you don't like yaoi, but is it just the thought of gayness or what?

it's not the gayness. I'm all for gender sensitivity and stuff like that. It just seems so weird on manga or anime :s or fanfic... kyaaaaa!

ah, i see. that was a pretty great scene (sakura = fujoshi, who knew?). did it feel like enlightenment when you discovered it? like, "i found what was missing in my life....yaoi" or something like that? :XD

Hahaha. Not at all, actually. At the time, that scene just cracked me up more than anything else. But then of course all the talk it spawned around the forums of "yaoi this" and "yaoi that" made me curious, which led to much google searching.... and then the progression followed something like fanart > fanfics > doujins > manga. Gradually though. I don't think I could pinpoint where the obsession began. -_-;

Although, even before I'd heard the term and learned about the "fandom", I'd always loved the connection between Sasuke and Naruto. So.... I guess the obsession was kinda inevitable? :amuse

this is true, but it seems like it doesn't matter which 2 characters are briefly interacting (regardless of sex or orientation), they can still end up in a pair.

Heh, true enough. Sakura's paired with every male character in Naruto, even though she's never interacted with most of them. :p

nah, i wouldn't insult this pairing. do i think it will ever happen? no.

Well, me neither. It is a shounen, afterall. :amuse

we know for sure that naruto likes the ladies.

clearly in denial. :oh

it's not the gayness. I'm all for gender sensitivity and stuff like that. It just seems so weird on manga or anime :s or fanfic... kyaaaaa!

Hmm, I'm curious though... what is it about it that seems weird? Is it the odd, non-canon pairings? How would you feel about a manga that's just a nice, sweet, non-graphic love story between two boys? You get almost the same thing in many shoujo anyway.

Um, and since this is tifa-chan's thread, I guess I should ask her a question too... :amuse What 5 CDs would you take with you to a deserted island? (do people even listen to cds anymore?)

i sort of get where you're coming from, i guess (i actually didn't have you pegged as a homophobe, btw). i don't really find it "weird" or anything, but i'm just not terribly interested in it. meh *shrug*

oh man, another toughie! i'm too indecisive for these top 5 lists >.> let's see....

1. Ok Computer - Radiohead (my all-time favorite :nuts)
2. Nevermind - Nirvana
3. Pinkerton - Weezer (so hard to choose between this and their first self-titled blue album :darn)
4. Aenima - Tool
5.The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner - Ben Folds Five

you made me think really hard there :shakefist and i'm still not sure i picked right.....maybe i should've put something classic like the beatles or the who? but which album to choose? :scry

@kaychan, yeah I guess it's the odd non-canon pairings. But somehow yuri non-canon pairings are okay. :sweatdrop

Everything sounds like yuri to you. :notrust

Touché.

Then again everything sounds yaoi to you :oh

Still, if you're at all curious to read a good one, this Sasu/Naru manifesto (http://community.livejournal.com/ship_manifesto/127713.html#cutid1) is fantastic and remarkably unbiased. (But then, I'm biased, so I could be biased about it being unbiased... >.>)

You don't need me to sell me that pairing, kay-chan, remember that I already somewhat agreed with it in that post (http://mangahelpers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=423856&postcount=193) >.>;

Awww, I love you too, Danchou. :p

Awww, kay-chan, moe~ :hug

ah, i see. that was a pretty great scene (sakura = fujoshi, who knew?). did it feel like enlightenment when you discovered it? like, "i found what was missing in my life....yaoi" or something like that? :XD i guess i could ask the same question to xophy (and bb? :blink) regarding yuri....

Hmmm, no, not really. The enlightenment part of my life came with Konata from Lucky Star, I knew yuri before of course and was a decent fan, but never before the absolutely obvious Konata x Kagami pairing in Lucky Star did I become so crazy about it :shakefist Konata-ism was the true enlightenment :luv

well yeah, if you're looking for yuri at all times :oh

I am, and I usually find it, in my now-biased take on reality, where you and kay-chan are a couple and bbs-chan my henchman in my quest to yurifying the world :oh

Well, the reason I HATE the fanfic world as a whole is because of the poor handling of the characters 99% of the time (and by "poor", I refer to anything that's not perfect). That's why I just don't like pairings that don't seem at least 99% canon :oh Unfortunately (for you) that covers 100% of the pairings in Shounen, so it's no wonder I came to see yaoi as a spawn of evil, not because it's male x male or because you fangirls are insane, it's just because it's fundamentally flawed in that it's from the start out-of-character :oh Plus, given my liking to great female characters, I just don't feel like trying any regular ones >.>

I know! Too many good choices! I've always been kinda partial to Abby Road though. But you can't go wrong with any of them. And for The Who, I don't think it gets any better than Tommy, personally.

what would you do if you woke up one day and had a man's upper body (you still have your face the same and er... "femininity" down below)

Wheee! After-School Nightmare! I love that manga! First time I felt compelled to buy a manga before reading it (due to the scans cutting out at volume 5. :darn).

Then again everything sounds yaoi to you :oh

Not going to argue with that. :amuse

Of course I remember! :love How could I not, when it's pretty much the only non-bashing Naruto post you've written? :amuse

But I was mostly trying (failing) to sell the pairing to bb-chan and tifa-chan... :darn

I am, and I usually find it, in my now-biased take on reality, where you and kay-chan are a couple and bbs-chan my henchman in my quest to yurifying the world :oh

First yomi, then eni, and now tifa-chan? You really don't give up on pairing me with girls, do you? Well the offer to trade yuri for yaoi still stands, although I think you'll have a hard time convincing tifa-chan. :amuse

That doesn't stop you from reading lucky star doujins though, does it? :oh

I can see where you're coming from, but for me, the whole idea of fanfics necessitates the characters being at least slightly OOC, because the good ones change something significant about the story. I like the idea of seeing how the characters would react had they grown up in a different universe or if certain events in their lives were changed. Plus, a lot of fanfics take place when the characters are much older (say, in their 20s), so of course they would act differently then when they were 12-15. The good authors though can still make even that much OOC-ness feel like the original characters.

I agree with you that trying to make a fanfic exactly fit the manga never works -- it just feels like filler episodes to me. :darn

Plus, given my liking to great female characters, I just don't feel like trying any regular ones >.>

Hmm, I can understand that, since it's the primary reason why I don't think I'd ever like yuri. I just prefer to read about boys. :amuse

The chapters are no joke either, it's nearly 1500 pages long on MS Word, and I've estimated it to be roughly twice the size of the biggest Harry Potter book :oh

But yeah, the grammar is awkward, spelling in holiday at some times, and the EPIC story and godly handling of the characters makes it one of the best things I've ever read, regular novels included. If FFVII Advent CHildren was as good a sequel as Frozen is to FFVIII, it would have been the best thing ever. Frozen respects so much the characters and story of FFVIII it's simply either the work of a goddess or of a crazy girl, and most likely both :shakefist

Hi igotthegoods!!! WOW... just look at how many people care about you or at least having fun here in your thread!!! LOL You're like a total legend right now, I don't know anyone who's ever put up a thread where they're asking for something like this. Koodos to you gurl, you got guts!!! :D

I've replied to your posts in the Bleach threads and I think you've probably replied to mine as well.

I think a good name for you is one that Xophy has used. I didn't read through ALL of the posts because there was A LOT!!!! LOL But I think a good name for you is Tifa-chan.

Or if your not really all for Tifa-chan, then I could probably come up with some fun Hawaiian names!!! :D I'll be glad to give you some Hawaiian names. This forum could use some more Hawaiian in it!!! I can't be the only one spreading the aloha around... I need some help to let everyone know that not all Hawaiians are stupid barbarians who live in a grass hut and aren't apart of America.

But here's my question(s) for you (idk if it has already been asked but whatever):

Why did you like Urahara? (I know why I love him, but I just wanna know why you like him the most out of all the Bleach characters. BTW he's my fave too!!:grin)

What kind of music do you like?
OH, and the all important, have you ever been to Hawaii? (haha I know, I sound like such a retard but you did say ask u whatevers):p

well, he's just so damn cool! i love that he has a playful nature (his seiyu is pure win, btw <3), but under it all he's kind of a mastermind, always knowing more than he leads on. however, the biggest draw for me is his mysteriousness. we still don't know his whole story or what he's really capable of. and even though we got a big part of it in the gaiden, kubo still didn't give everything away about him. you know, enough to whet the appetite, but still enough mysteries to keep us wanting more (like his bankai :nuts). we all know he's a badass underneath it all. and did i mention that he's just cool? Well, I've been thinking of some Hawaiian names now, and here's what I've come up with.

Healani: hey-ah-la-knee
Pomai: po-my
Pomaika'i: po-my-ka-eee
Ka'iulani: ka-eee-u-la-knee (Was our Hawaiian Princess)
Moani: mo-ah-knee
Papahanaumoku: papa-ha-now-mo-ku (she was a major goddess in the Hawaiian mythology. She's the goddes of the earth)
Ku'uipo: ku-u(make the vowel sound of it)-eee-po (Means My Sweetheart)
Kanani: ka-na-knee (The Beauty)

Agreed. Urahara is the definitely the man!!!!! I love how he's always like :nana with his opponents (sometimes). Especially how he made a fool out of Yammi and then :pwned him!!! LOL

mostly rock/alternative, but i can listen to a bit of almost anything in the right setting (aside from country :iik).

It's so funny how many manga people like to listen to rock. I do too, but I'm not centered around that one genre. Like many, I love all music. Except country!!! I wanna die whenver that happens!!!!! It's like, I'd rather have this off topic :offtopic sign jammed into my head. Except it says SHUT THAT THING OFF!!!!

nope. the closest i've been to hawaii is california. i'd love to go someday! i'm sure it's very beautiful :)

Well, I guess it's beautiful. I have my moments where I'm just amazed with the scenery and everything. But to others, it's always so beautiful to them.

Our air is always fresh, it's also moist so it's very refreshing. Our temperature varies but hardly ever goes over 90. and the sunsets are incredible.

I'm a Hawaiian by blood and at heart.

well, at least you're finally reading it (and liking it? :nuts). how far in are you? a long way off from seeing the awesomeness of characters like brooke, i'm sure. hurry up! :shakefist

I do think the mangaka is awesome. All panels are genius, IMO. Except I'm still at the third volume ahahaha :sweatdrop

Wait a minute!! Are you guys talking about one piece?!

I swear I used to love OP but then I kept on missing the episodes on cartoon network. Because I never knew about the manga. I only thought it was mere comic books. I only recently (recently meaning Feb ofthis year) got into manga. And then I found onemanga and saw that they had OP, but it was already 500+ chapters in and I wasn't about to read all of them. But since everyone is saying that it's awesome, I'm gonnna try and get back into it.

So was I right?! Are you guys talking about OP or what...

yeah. Let's read together, hyn!

July 26, 2008, 03:49 AM
Sure why not baboysai!! :hug what chapter are you on and I'll start from thee. I know I'll be charting but I don't think that I wanna read through about 500 chapters. I can't do that before school starts and finish the golden compass book. I'm in the middle pretty much in the book. But whatevers.

So what chapter r u on?! :D garanz tifa-chan is on the current one. We gotta cram in love!! Once we get caught up with her then we'll be pretty set

baboysai
July 26, 2008, 04:29 AM
well since I haven't watched the anime I pretty much started from chapter 1. I'm now on volume 3. :oh

baboysai

pick up now... since I'll be starting in 5. 4. 3. 2... *bye*

yup :nod *reluctantly sees a bit of why xophy is trying to pair us up* >.>

As long as you see it it means there's hope. Shame you said that, I wasn't about to insist, but now I'll be unrelenting until you and kay-chan finally admit you're closet yuri-lovers :oh

well, kay-chan you do seem to be pretty cool so it guess it could be worse, but you're right, i'm not convinced. don't worry, i won't budge! :noworry

Aww, but kay-chan's perfect for you <3 You'd make a great neko and kay-chan a great tachi :oh

just keep pairing him up with guys and see how he likes it :kukuku

They keep doing it with the whole male staff anyway (thankfully more with titix, bax and khal >.>). But I can't be paired with anyone now since I have an otaku internet wife :oh

so long :faint but maybe worth it? i haven't read many fanfics either >.>

If you've played FFVIII and like the characters, then YES. It's worth giving it a try at least :amuse

i like the tifa-chan nick as well, but the credit goes to Gaara_dono for that one :amuse

Since Gaakun is a fellow frenchman, I'll take the credit anyway :oh

Well I'm sure everyone in this thread is having plenty of fun!!! :D I swear it's funny what's going on here. Like with Xophy and GK. :lmao Watch out, you might have them whipped. lol

Our own threads have grown so big we may feel the need to go on rampage on other threads, maybe :p

hardly....you're overestimating me -_-; i'm pretty sure the only ones that could whip xophy are agrias and konata......and maybe haruhi too? i'm not so sure about gk, though :headscratch it's not my style to keep someone whipped anyway...

Healani: hey-ah-la-knee
Pomai: po-my
Pomaika'i: po-my-ka-eee
Ka'iulani: ka-eee-u-la-knee (Was our Hawaiian Princess)
Moani: mo-ah-knee
Papahanaumoku: papa-ha-now-mo-ku (she was a major goddess in the Hawaiian mythology. She's the goddes of the earth)
Ku'uipo: ku-u(make the vowel sound of it)-eee-po (Means My Sweetheart)
Kanani: ka-na-knee (The Beauty)
wow, these are all so nice! ^^ thanks for the help with the pronunciation as well :hug

Like many, I love all music. Except country!!! I wanna die whenver that happens!!!!! It's like, I'd rather have this off topic :offtopic sign jammed into my head. Except it says SHUT THAT THING OFF!!!!
:rofl i concur

I do think the mangaka is awesome. All panels are genius, IMO. Except I'm still at the third volume ahahaha :sweatdrop
oda is awesome, and highly unpredictable. i think that's one of the big reasons i love OP :love

and hyn, i believe bb was talking about starting from the first chapter period. i can't imagine starting a manga from partway in or even skipping any chapters (the reason i haven't read gintama yet is because of the huge gap in the scans). the only thing i've ever knowingly skipped is 4 chapters of Neuro (http://www.onemanga.com/Majin_Tantei_Nougami_Neuro/) because chapters 46-49 aren't scanlated. it pained me so much to do so, but i didn't want to drop it either :scry

LOL. Why? :bkitty (Sorry for the cat. I just wanted to use it. But that's my experesion.) Don't you think it's kinda fun. Well, now that I think of it, I don't really like it when people do that. i.e. my best friend went out with my cousin and had him whipped completely. Then she dumped completely but never told him that she was going out with TWO other guys. YES I said 2!!!!!!:notrust

wow, these are all so nice! ^^ thanks for the help with the pronunciation as well :hug

Oh no problem. I only put up the names that would sound appealing. Ther are even better names such as, Naleo'onalani (nah-lay-ooooh-nah-la-knee). That means Voices of Heaven. If you want anything else just ask...:lovebunny

Well, since I figured as much, I started reading from the first chapters last night, but then I got really tired of reading those chapters because I didn't want to waste time reviewing over old chapters that I've already seen in the anime. So I ended up finding where I last left off from OP and started again from there. :p So as of now, I'm at the part when Lufi is fighting the Mermen. To be more presice, the part where he is fighting that octopus thing. (Eww IT looks even more ugly than that TRANY Arrancar in Bleach :err *shiver)

ok, well at least you're not skipping any major parts of the story by doing it that way, but i'm still the type to start at the beginning and read the entire manga anyway for the sake of completeness. you know, get the full vision of the mangaka without the fillers and changes the anime writers throw in there.

it's ok. i love kitties! :nuts

Really? I love cats too!!! :tem But I like dogs too. But at the same time I can't stand both of them. WHY? Because both of them get really stink, they shed their fur, they both need attention, and they both make a podey. It smells like hell has landed a huge crap in my yard and left it there for me to clean up.:mad But thank god cats dig holes first in the dirt before they poo, and then cover it back up!!! Koodos to cats. For me my fave cat is not a house cat. It's the Siberian White Tiger and the Jaguar. My dog is and will always be a Rottweiler. I've had two who have died (one boy one girl, both of them sibs. The boy died first and he was my baby, his name was Duke. Then the girl died last year. Her name was Malama [mah-la-mah; to care for]. Oh, I cried so hard :scry. I felt like I lost my two sibs. But now we have two more. Both girls, Hau'oli [how-oh-lee; happy/merry] and Wehi [veh-he;happy]. These two are my additional sisters to the four younger ones I already have.:amuse)

Hey, do you have any pets? and btw, little brothers/sisters don't count as a pet. :p

What about sibs? Got any?

I'm actually babysittin right now, and we're watching the Hannah Montana concert. :drool I love her to death!!! :fangirl

well, i suppose it wouldn't be all bad to have a guy wrapped around my little finger. :plot but like i said before, it's just not my style. i'm a nice girl! :amuse

I know. But I'm just so lazy, I really don't want to have to review things that I don't have to. I don't have to go to school until August 15 so please, no school work until then. The rest of the kids on this island that don't go to a school like mine go back next week Monday or Wednsday. (public sku kids, ie my sisters. lol losers)

Ironicly, the anime that I loved completely and still kind of do, is Dragon Ball Z. But the ironic thing, the school I go to is an all Hawaiian school where you have to have hyn blood and be able to prove it to go there after taking an admin test/interview. I got in at 7th grade and now am moving into my sophmore year!!! :XD But back to school. The name of it is Kamehameha! Isn't that funny? SO everyone who watches DBZ already knows some Hawaiian!!! (btw, Kamehameha was our King and my family is related to him. To bad royalty doesn't really matter now a days down here.)

lol @ the tranny arrancar comment. the scene with him and yumichika was priceless :XD

I swear, that TRANY thing was so damn funny!!!! :rofl Yumichika was krazy funny "I don't look at ugly things." lol. priceless. But I was getting scared for Yumichika cuz I thought that TRANY woulda started to :lick lick him on the face. IDK why... funny stuff though:D

Aww. That sux. My aunty in Vegas had to give her to dog away to the humane society because no one else wanted to take it (no one meaning her friends). Her dog Hamau (Hamau: huh-ma-ow. It means be quiet) was chewing up the wires in the apartment and her roomie was getting irritated with it. :scry But she went out a few weeks later and got a Dottsund (idk how to spell it). hiyori is another good choice, though. she's probably my favorite out of all the late-introduction side characters :thumbs i'm not surprised you like her at all since she's always imagining yuri situations with her friends :XD

my favorite endings? hmm....let's see. i probably like the endings featuring the songs from haruhi the most (since i acually know them :sweat). oh, and the doraemon ending too....can't think of any others off the top of my head :darn

That was the whole point really :oh First stage of the plan, making you understand my idea (done), second stage of the plan, making you glad to have each of you by the other's side (done), third stage of the plan... I'll keep it a surprise :smile-big
-_-; i always say the wrong thing....

I guess by now you are of the Swoky Dan?
weeeell, maybe just swoky :XD

I really truely am sorry for that. :( I completely wasn't thinking when I posted that. I'm actually very good with girls/woman. Many of my friends are girls, so I konw how to talk to them so that I don't offend them in any way. I slipped. My bad.

Hiyori is just awesome :XD She's also the favorite character of the mangaka himself , and it shows quite a bit in the manga (in volume 4 she has a bigger number of appearances than Tsukasa and Miyuki), which leads to just a lot of delusion time and random Hiyori moments :shakefist The scene of Lucky Star that made me laugh the strongest was probably the end of ep19, when innocent Yutaka goes to Hiyori and asks "Tamura-san, yaoi tte nani?" with a cute smile :rofl

the cosplay cafe scene was also max winnage :thumbs hmm, and for some reason i also like that scene where konata was imitating the shampoo commercial (i think mostly because i can relate to making obscure references to multiple people before anyone gets it, if they ever do :XD). there's plenty of others, too but i just can't think of them....

Good guess. :amuse

But, suprisingly, no. Honestly, it'd be hard to watch lucky star and not have the goddess Konata take first place. She's just entirely too awesome. Second place is a close race between Hiyori and Kagami. I love them both. :tem

Although, Danchou did make me a ridiculously awesome Hiyori avy/sig set... I need to break that out again soon (need more pics for it first). :shakefist

Heh, me too. That scene was just too cute. But wait, Kagami is seme? o.O

Tough one. Yuri in my opinion doesn't have a clear distinction like seme-uke seems to be in yaoi, and the roles can quite change in most of the yuri couples I've seen. Konata would be usually considered the tachi, given her usual behavior and the fact Kagami is a tsundere, but when Konata shows a vulnerable side, like there, the strong-willed Kagami isn't afraid to take the lead. Should they ever become a couple, I'm 100% sure Kagami will make the first step :shakefist

I'm glad to see you've given this quite a bit of thought. :amuse

don't worry, you didn't miss anything since i haven't been asked about it yet ;) yes, i have watched haruhi and i loved it. i was totally hooked after the first episode. and by first episode, i mean the movie starring asahina (mi-mi-miracle run~) not the first episode sequentially. i then proceeded to find out what the correct order was to watch it in (thanks again, wiki-sama!) and did it that way instead of watching them in the order they were shown. how did everyone else watch it? i don't know if i would've been too confused or not watching the episodes out of order :headscratch

1. lucky star
2. cowboy bebop (bang... :crying)
3. samurai champloo
4. death note
5. suzumiya haruhi (yeah, i know another season is supposedly coming, but for now it qualifies, right?)

as you can see, no shoujo at all.....haven't watched any. any suggestions for other good single-season animes of any genre?

btw, kay-chan, who's your current avy? it looks nice, but i'm not familiar with the character.

The only character more delusional than Hiyori, from the fantastic anime Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei (http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=2605) (watch it!) -- the one and only Fujiyoshi Harumi:

A fan of yaoi and cat ears, and the classroom's resident illustrator. She has an innate coupling instinct, imagining slash pairings between all sorts of (male) characters, her favorite couple being Pine × Napple. Her tastes are considered unusual, even abnormal, which often puts her at odds with Chiri. Her name is a combination of fujoshi (yaoi fangirls) and Harumi, the previous site of Comiket before it moved to Tokyo Big Sight.

and also, where the heck is your ask-me thread so i can ask you stuff? :shakefist

Heh, I kinda put it in hiding while I was inactive. But... I've been thinking about bringing it back out again. Maybe by next week.

Just don't ask me any top-5 questions. Those are too hard. :oh

Oh noooooooooooo!! You shouldn't have consulted wiki-sama, you should've gone to Danchou-sama. The "correct" order is definitely the original order in which they were aired. Well, for what it's worth, here's my contribution of must-sees (my semi-recent obsessions):
1. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=2605) (and it's sequel, Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei) - randomness to the nth degree. way too hilarious to pass up.
2. Ghost Hound (http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=2596) - part mystery, part psychological mindbender, part ??? I don't know... still trying to figure this one out. Best sound editing I've ever heard in an anime.
3. ef - a tale of memories (http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=2924) - unique animation alone is a reason to add this to the watch list, and oddly enough, the characters/story are deep enough to justify the animation. plus, it's only 12 episodes long, and it has a sequel coming out soon.
4. Darker than Black (http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=2025) - sci-fi drama/mystery. awesome characters. awesome story. very fast-paced.

I can imagine Konata talking like usual about geeky stuff while Kagami and she are walking. Then Kagami suddenly stops and fidgets. Konata notices and stops too and turns to see Kagami. :faint

That's completely wrong :oh What will happen is that Konata will mess with Kagami at the end of a school day, like usual (probably about her weight or something), then Kagami, in a bad day, will snap badly, and Konata will run away crying. Feeling bad about it, Kagami will try to call her that night but Konata won't answer, then starting the next day Konata will take her lunch alone on the rooftop, and after a couple of days, Kagami will finally gather the courage to confront her, tell her she's sorry to have snapped, and confess her feelings, andandand :wtf *nosebleeds to death*

as you can see, no shoujo at all.....haven't watched any. any suggestions for other good single-season animes of any genre?Single season? Kay-chan's ones are already awesome, but I'll had those Danchou's recommendations :

Mushishi (http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=457) for the most quiet and beautiful anime evar :love (26 episodes)

And if you don't mind two-seasons long animes (and you shouldn't) :
Hachimitsu to Clover (http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=16) for the anime that switches the best between funny and drama parts (24+12 episodes)
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=467) for the best sci-fi series ever and one of my personal favorites (26+26 episodes + 1 TV movie)

the death note manga is better (as is usually the case) but the anime is very good. it could be because i watched the anime first before reading the manga, so i got the full force of the suspense when watching the anime. i'm sure that made my experience a little better.

Juuni Kokki (http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=153) for the best character development ever (45 episodes)

You won't find that movie anywhere on the web, some of my friends that are in it are too shy for that, and it's just too big anyway (nearly 2 hours long). To sum up what little plot there is in it:
Evil mafia organization is planning to take control of the world by summoning a badass demon, but a team of supposedly good guys get in the fray for kicking some asses, and incidentally saving the world. All of that with enough plot holes to bury the entire narutard population, since the scenario kept changing during the shooting :shakefist

I'll second mushishi... it's one of those animes where you could take a screencap at any moment and it'd be a work of art -- just really gorgeous stuff. It's a good anime to watch slowly, in between other stuff though, since there's not much of a real story and all of the episodes can be watched separately for the most part.

excellent. i will definitely be watching this one :thumbs

talking about the episodic nature of this anime also reminds me about the possibility of you reading some david sedaris, kay-chan. his books are really just a collection of essays, so each chapter really stands alone. they are perfect to read a little bit each day or in between other stuff. sorry, just taking another opportunity to pimp his awesome books :p

It started as a half-serious project. Then, I joined midway, noticed it was crap (how could we do something serious when we were pathetic actors? >.>), rewrote a good part of the end, and added tons of comedy, and the result is quite decent, it seems. My brother showed it to some of his friends, how knew absolutely no one in the movie, and they quite liked it I've heard, so I guess it's kinda a success^^; (the most important thing though is that we had a lot of fun doing it :amuse)

how could i expect anything that wasn't amazing from danchou-sama himself? shame on me :chair

i do miss doing that sort of silly stuff with friends (ours were never serious projects and probably alcohol-induced -_-;). and yes, the process is the best part :amuse the results were never really any good, but always hilarious. and what fun is it if you can't laugh at yourself anyway?

Yeah, ours was kinda a serious project, ~12 actors, two years of work and even decent level special effects. But yeah, alcohol helped some of us shoot some scenes :XD (thankfully I'm not camera shy)

And since I've noticed you've changed your thread's title, let me tell you that : I'm glad you're coming out of the closet. oh my :oh it's amazing how you can find yuri in anything, danchou (why am i surprised?). like kay-chan said, i would actually think this might indicate a transer to the yaoi branch instead (although it doesn't :shakefist) especially when the stuff i've been reading is like this

Yeah I was actually wondering, Tiffany, how you thought about yuri?
i can appreciate the beautiful art (if it's good) and the attractiveness of the characters, but it really doesn't do much of anything for me.

on a side note, why is it that women can openly state that they find another woman attractive, but when men do it, it's not nearly as accepted? like, when men do it, they're automatically gay, but when women do it, there's no bearing on their sexuality. i've never understood that double standard.

oh my :oh it's amazing how you can find yuri in anything, danchou (why am i surprised?). like kay-chan said, i would actually think this might indicate a transer to the yaoi branch instead (although it doesn't :shakefist)

Well, there's no yaoi branch in the brigade, just a josei one for the girls who are to shy to admit they like yuri. I'm pretty sure kay-chan filed a claim for a yaoi branch, that I probably... Now wait a second.
*thinks*
*thinks again*
Okay, I hereby declare the SWOKy branch (y for yaoi) of the SWOKY brigade open. Kay-chan, you're in charge. Tifa-chan, I'm making you in command of the josei branch then, if you don't mind :nod

My explanation is that men are supposed to be the leaders in a society that is mainly patriarchal (any sane person knows that it's the other way around, though :amuse). Since the physical appearance is an important factor for girls to choose guys, admitting another male is good-looking is like admitting he's a good pick as a procreator, or something like that. It's kinda stupid, but still more civilized than fighting to death for a female, I guess >.>;

I think Xophy's onto something... I think it's also partly because it's socially acceptable for women to appreciate "pretty" things in general, so I guess one woman finding another attractive can be seen more as appreciating a beautiful work of art? Whereas the opposite standards apply for men, so a man finding another man attractive would only be interpreted as sexual.

the real reason is this: Men are horndogs, if it's two women we get turned on so we don't care plus we don't offend their sexuality since we want to believe there's still a chance to do her, while thinking of another man as hot apart from imposible (since we never pay any attencion to other men) is discusting (since in our heads hot = we are currently having sexual thoughts about the person we are talkin about) plus we also are annoyed if we get such a compliment from another man we are discusted for the above explained reason so we created this double standart to utilize the fear people have to differ and rasism so such words won't be spoken :noworry

Mmmm, former best friends turned bitter rivals... what could be a better (or more classic) yaoi pairing? :love

:XD

But... They hate each other..... this pairing makes no sense.....

about nana, i'm liking it a lot. it does seem to be more on the josei side, but i know it's in a shoujo magazine, so i think it's officially categorized as shoujo. and i have to admit that so far takumi does make me kind of :nosebleed (yes, an example of impure thoughts :XD).

I also thought for a time it was josei. >.> Until i found out it was released from a shoujo mag.

What part are you at now, tiffany?

But... They hate each other..... this pairing makes no sense.....

Well... the short answer is: it doesn't have to make sense. If you look at it shallowly, it's just about pairing two bishies together. As for the "hate" issue, fangirls generally (purposefully) misinterpret hatred as "sexual tension," which explains why there's an overabundance of rivalry pairing fandoms.

I won't defend this pairing to the death, as I'm honestly not that big a fan of it, but if you're really curious, I suggest you check out the suzaku/lelouch ship manifesto (http://community.livejournal.com/ship_manifesto/183946.html). It's very well-written, has an accurate analysis of the characters, and is pro-suzaku, so you'd probably like it. It was written before season 2 started though, so the analysis is slightly incomplete. (contains season 1 spoilers too, for anyone who hasn't watched it yet).

it does seem to blur the line between shoujo and josei somewhat, especially with the type of grown-up things happening at the point i'm at right now. someone has recently found out that she's pregnant, but doesn't know who the father is yet. i'm rather surprised by takumi's reaction. even though he called the other guy to tell him about the pregnancy against the mother's wishes, he does seem to want to take responsibility if it's his.....or at least that's what he's saying....

i haven't been all too fond of takumi thus far, tbh. well, except for his hotness. :p i usually tend to like the nice guys better......perhaps my opinion will change as the story continues?

I felt the same way at first (Shin-chan and Ren are my favorites :love), but you might start to change your mind when you read the Takumi side-story (I think it was published at the end of volume 18).

The thing is, it's almost impossible to really hate anyone in this manga, because the characters are almost too real sometimes, you know? It's very easy to sympathize with anyone once you have enough background information.

Still, that doesn't mean I think Takumi and Hachi are a perfect match though. :p

But having impure thoughts about him is nothing harming! It's way too healthy! :loool

Still, that doesn't mean I think Takumi and Hachi are a perfect match though. :p
I second that motion... I'm a HachixNobuo pairing lover... That's a perfect love story.. But it couldn't work in real life too cunning too much irresponsible... That's why sometimes I'm forced to like Tkumi's action; he's maybe showing off in front of his wife (Hachi) but to tell the truth all his actions were reasonable and logical! That's a man who can handle any type of life's difficulties!

ok, i'll reserve my full opinion until i get all the background info. and i don't hate any of the characters so far. even hachi, who is kind of annoying at times, is still likeable. shin and ren are high up on my list of favorites as well. :amuse i think shin might be my favorite so far. he's so damn precocious! i love it!

well we're opposite on that. I am soooo vulnerable when it comes to bad guys with some complex or another (insecurity, superiority, etc.) and the ones who act tough but their pasts are really sad or something.

Like Ryoki from Hot Gimmick. <-- This is an interesting read too, Tiffany. If you have the time.

i see. you're the type that wants to tame the bad boy. you like the challenge, i bet :p

i can't say i'd be completely opposed to that myself, but i still tend to like "good guys" better, at least when it comes to romantic-type stories. i mean, i love gin in bleach, but he's not exactly a good guy. hmm, i guess maybe i don't have a specific type of character that i always like :headscratch

yep, agree with you there :amuse i do like her more as the story progresses, and i would never say that i disliked her at any point. i think maybe part of my annoyance with her is the whole "love at first sight" thing that she had going on at the beginning. if you remember the discussion we had in the romance thread, it's something i don't believe in (though doesn't everyone secretly wish it would happen to them? :darn).

I believe in "lust at first sight." Love at first sight is clearly impossible, by definition. Hachi, like a lot of women, is probably confusing the two. She just wants to be swept up in some kind of fairytail-like romance.

Well, I didn't really like her at first either -- I normally dislike that clueless female archetype. But as the story progressed, I started liking her more. She's a bit clueless, but she's just so sincere. She's not disingenuous in the least. It's really hard to dislike someone like that. :amuse

thanks, it really did suck. i mean, what are the odds that i would buy advance tickets for the one showing that wasn't going to happen? grrr.

i don't know yet if i'm just going to try to see it in a normal theater instead or not. i still want to see it in imax, but there's no way it's going to happen this week. i have to work late a few days this coming week and the friend i'm supposed to go with won't go to anything later than the 7pm showing during the week, which i won't be able to make (she's such a wuss! :shakefist). the other days that i'd be able to go earlier, she's busy. then, she's going to be out of town next thursday - sunday. dammit! maybe i'll just have to go by myself to the regular theater and then to the imax with her later. is it worth a repeat viewing?

The Love at first sight.... humm.. I think it's a deep and thorny topic... For me; I really believe in such a relationship type. Through my lifetime, I experienced too many times this kind of love. But to tell you the truth I think that it's the most successful kind of love. You know you feel something greater than only love or "lust"... It's something like destiny; when you love someone like that!

And in the NANAverse... I think Ai Yazawa-sensei is focusing the whole matter on Hachi; Just to show that this kind of relationship is real! I think he only time Hachi forgot/didn't pay attenion about such a thing is when she loved Nabuo... Plus; the "Love at first sight" between these two is really obvious fom the very start! But to make it unique Yazawa-sensei made all the events that where to make it look like a compitition between Takumi and Nobuo! But in reality they (Hachi and Nobuo) loved each other from the first sight!

And about the "lust" thing... I do agree that for a lustful woman like Hachi... Love is just in the bed! But; I don't think that she was realising that she didn't knew the meaning of love until she loved bothe of them.. And I'm really convinced that there's a part of her that is belonging to Nobuo until now!

That's all for now! *back to real life! :XD*

I have this thing against going to see the same movie twice in the theater, but otherwise I'd say -- ABSOLUTELY! First of all, the plot is confusing as hell (by the end it all makes sense, but it won't hurt seeing it more than once, because I'm sure you'll pick up on more details). And secondly, I can't imagine you being bored the second time because the action, the graphics, and the performances are all fantastic. So in the end, it just comes down to money and time, I guess. :amuse

Tifa-chan, have you gotten a chance to see TDK yet? At this rate, it'll be out on dvd before you get to see it. :darn
it certainly seems to be going that way. and no, i haven't seen it yet >.> i'm supposed to go this friday, well that is if my friend got us tickets. she was supposed to go over on her lunch break today to exchange our imax vouchers for tickets :shakefist

What was your first introduction to anime/manga? Was it love at first sight? ;)
i started with anime first and then found manga later. i just kinda accidentally found it around 4-ish years ago while watching all the stuff on cartoon network's adult swim. i was mostly watching it for the comedy shows (family guy, futurama, aqua teens, sealab, etc.) but then i ended up just watching some of the anime to see what it was all about and yeah, it was basically love at first sight (crap, i'm contradicting myself, but it's my thread and i can do whatever i want :shakefist :XD). i later found the awesomeness of subs online and finally, manga :nuts. i couldn't believe what i was missing out on all this time!

When/How did you first realize you were hooked?
i don't think there was a definitive point where i knew i was hooked -- it pretty much just happened straight away. i was already a final fantasy fan before finding anime and it sort of gave me a similar vibe, so i think something just clicked. anyway, i get hooked pretty easily on tv, books, video games, etc, so it was really only natural for it to happen -_-;

What's your favorite guilty pleasure food/music/book?
food - waaay too many to count. pizza, ice cream, chicken fingers, french fries, mac and cheese, burgers, etc, etc, etc......why does everything that's bad for you always have to taste so good? :scry
music - 80's music!!! for real. i love it :luv
books - this answer is too easy: the xanth series by piers anthony. i love, love, love these books! they're so punny! (eh, bad joke :sweat) i used to be quite obsessed with them when i was in high school, but the quality went a bit downhill and i kinda stopped reading. i should get back into them one of these days (like i don't already have enough to read :darn).

What's your current favorite band (like, not all-time favorite, but any band that you've been obsessed with recently?)
oooh, that's a toughie! i don't think i really have one at the moment, but i do really like the new stuff from death cab for cutie. *shrug* i'll have to think about that one a little more.....do you have one? i'm always looking for new music :nuts

I love death cab too. :D Ah, no real favorite at the moment, but I just have a handful of bands I'm "into" at any given point in time. At the moment, other than death cab:

some indie/alternative (I don't know how to classify it >.>): bravery, cold war kids, muse, bloc party, arctic monkeys

and some electronic/remix stuff: justice, simian mobile disco, mstrkrft, phones

imo, the best one in the series was the first book, a spell for chameleon :amuse

well, i've been a moderator since the 4th of july (easy date to remember since it's a holiday here in the states) so not too long. i'm liking it a lot so far. all the other mods have been very nice, helpful, and supportive. i've really enjoyed getting to know some of them better :D
of course, as a newbie, i've made a couple of mistakes here and there, but i'm starting to feel more confident and trusting my own judgement a bit more. i actually even had another mod ask me for help the other day, and luckily i happened to have the answer, so that felt pretty good :amuse

Well, if you were given that new title ( Mod ) by MH, It's because they beleived in your judgement. I bet you're a descent person, so I wouldn't worry about that. Besides, everyone makes mistakes. I Bet even njt himself made some when he started this website... <.<

Indeed, all Journey songs are great for that. :XD

wow, you actually read these, too? but how could you forget? :(

Nothing against xanth, I just have the worst memory in the world. :darn

xanth is a place in which everyone in had a magical talent.....mundania is another part of the world where there's no magic......

Well, yeah, I remembered that much at least. Just... no plots, no characters. -_-;

I'm sure it would all come back to me if I ever picked them up again. But, well, too much else to read! :shakefist

love muse! :luv i have a couple of their albums, which are awesome. i also like the bravery and cold war kids, but i think i only know their singles :sweat is it worth looking into their albums?

Ah, I'm actually not sure what their singles are, since I've only heard one from each of them on the radio. If you like them though, then yeah, check out the albums. Here's one of my favorite from each (of their not-most-famous songs):

(you need an account here to listen to the songs, but it's worth signing up to be able to preview music) --

bravery - this is not the end (http://www.imeem.com/thebravery/music/tlvi8skJ/the_bravery_this_is_not_the_end/)
cold war kids - passing the hat (http://www.imeem.com/coldwarkids/music/ZHZFfpMT/cold_war_kids_passing_the_hat/)

the others, i haven't heard of >.>

Not sure you'd like them. The style is pretty different from the rest. But here's one of each, if you want to judge for yourself:

bloc party - pioneers (http://www.imeem.com/rockmusic4/music/roYPtL9n/bloc_party_the_pioneers/) and helicopter (allen breakneck remix) (http://www.imeem.com/kronicgrave/music/b03eVMMh/bloc_party_helicopter_allen_breakneck_mix/)
arctic monkeys - fluorescent adolescent (http://www.imeem.com/arcticmonkeysmusic/music/Uak_WE3n/arctic_monkeys_fluorescent_adolescent/)
justice - waters of nazareth (http://www.imeem.com/justice/music/QQzTbugB/justice_waters_of_nazareth/)
simian mobile disco - i believe (http://www.imeem.com/simianmobiledisco/music/GNHwKnkG/simian_mobile_disco_i_believe/)
justice - d.a.n.c.e. (mstrkrft remix) (http://www.imeem.com/justice/music/CjbZTXw0/justice_dance_mstrkrft_remix/)
futureheads - hounds of love (phones remix) (http://www.imeem.com/rockmusic6/music/Mk7-Jjf4/the_futureheads_hounds_of_love_phones_wolf_at_the_door_rem/) -- can't find a full version of any phones songs streaming, sorry.

//edit -- found one. p. diddy remix (http://www.imeem.com/mixshow/music/hW5z76Uv/puff_diddy_featchristina_aguilera_tell_me_phones_remix/) (but don't judge it by that >.>)

Well, if you were given that new title ( Mod ) by MH, It's because they beleived in your judgement. I bet you're a descent person, so I wouldn't worry about that. Besides, everyone makes mistakes. I Bet even njt himself made some when he started this website... <.<
yeah, as much as it sucks to make mistakes, nobody's perfect. it's no biggie :amuse

By the way, why did you choose a username like " igotthegoods " ? wasn't there any other options? O.O
oh man, do you think it's really that bad? :crying i get such mixed reviews. i think i've stopped caring for the most part, though >.> if you look at the beginning of this thread, you'll see that the original title was "help igotthegoods come up with a better username" so i've entertained the idea of changing it. everyone already knows me like this, so i figured i might as well just stick with it. at least for now....

and to answer your question, my name comes from an episode of my favorite tv show (Mr. Show). it's a running gag in one of the episodes where one guy says to another, "you got the goods." one example is in this sketch (http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/e4bf85ae64). yeah, it's weird and random. my sense of humor is a little off from the norm. i'm aware :sweat

bravery - this is not the end (http://www.imeem.com/thebravery/music/tlvi8skJ/the_bravery_this_is_not_the_end/)

really like the ones from arctic monkeys and bloc party (it's a bit different from what i usually listen to, but i can feel the bloc party songs kind of creeping into my head :shakefist :XD)

sorry, can't say i'm too keen on the electronic stuff (it can get a bit repetitive for my taste), but somehow the simian mobile disco song was kind of interesting (in a good way :))

I expected as much (on both counts). :amuse

Well, the electronic stuff... I think you have to ease into that gradually. It's not something that most people would like right off the bat. (I think bloc party was my gateway drug there). And, believe it or not, but the repetitiveness is actually great for long commutes/flights where I'm usually zoning out anyway. (probably not a good thing) :XD

I'm aware that my taste in music is a bit... odd though. :amuse

Oh, that reminds me. I really need to shoot this question back at you, albeit in a much more evil fashion. :kukuku

favorite anime op/ed ever?

And one more. Do you play any instruments?

favorite bleach op/ed? (I think you have a much better subset to pick from than in naruto)
this is tough! i like most of them. i think i like either the 2nd (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypcnaeCozzw&feature=related) or 3rd (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1WUELTqnwQ&feature=related) OP best.

for favorite ED, i think i'd probably go with the 3rd (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3A5Wwskx6E&feature=related). it's kind of like the introductions of all the captains/vice captains :)

favorite anime op/ed ever?
argh, this one is evil! :shakefist

as far as anime OPs go, yoko kanno ftw! my no-brainer favorite is cowboy bebop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6zDfxZ4NcE), but i also like both OPs from GITS: SAC (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRX_uHeMZD4) and 2nd GIG (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMNkczD33j8)....there are plenty of others that i'm sure i'm forgetting....

favorite all-time ED is a bit harder. uhhh, i don't know! :shakefist for now i'll just go with the extremely infectious haruhi ED (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIn5gwmGIM0) (of course it's funnier like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNUgrh7Skok) :XD) even though it may not be my absolute favorite. i'll have to think about it some more :headscratch

And one more. Do you play any instruments?
eh, sort of. i used to play both clarinet and flute. i played clarinet in the school band from 5th-9th grade and then i quit. it wasn't really "cool" and all i needed was 1 year in high school to fulfill my art credits (i certainly wasn't taking any art classes since i probably would've failed them :s). but i was pretty good. always first or second chair among the people in the same grade as me. my sister played flute when we were both in middle school, so i got curious and taught myself how to play it for fun, though i was never really that good at it.

i always wish i could play either the piano or the guitar, though. well, i suppose i know a couple of generic songs on the piano like heart and soul and mary had a little lamb (without the chords) plus i can play a couple of chords on the guitar, but i wouldn't consider that really knowing the instrument.

Yeah, Bleach is hard! There's so many great OPs. But I think the 2nd is my favorite too.

for favorite ED, i think i'd probably go with the 3rd (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3A5Wwskx6E&feature=related). it's kind of like the introductions of all the captains/vice captains :)

I don't like the bleach EDs as much... the 3rd is good though. the 11th (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGPoDzLUBSU&feature=related) is great too -- at first, I didn't really like it, but it's so damn catchy it grew on me. :D

Good call with cowboy bebop. That one MUST be included. I still haven't seen GITS yet, so hadn't seen those OPs yet, but first impression -- AMAZING! :nuts Those seem like the type that you'd never skip over.

Do you usually watch all the OP/ED or do you skip them after a while?

Hahah. Infectious indeed. I've seen so many different versions of that dance that I'd forgotten what the original ED looked like. :XD

(of course it's funnier like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNUgrh7Skok) :XD)

Yes! Shiraishi's EDs crack me up. :XD

eh, sort of. i used to play both clarinet and flute.

Cool, cool. I used to play flute (and a bit of tenor sax) in high school, but quit after a year in college (had no more time). I was a pretty big band geek in hs though. :amuse

Really? It's that good? I mean, I know it's supposed to be critically acclaimed or whatever, and I do have it downloaded already, but I just never got around to watching it.

I watched the movie, and couldn't really get into it though, so I barely paid attention to it. Maybe because I wasn't really in the mood for something that "heavy."

How's the show compare to the movie?

The movie is really, really heavy stuff. It doesn't make it bad, but it does make it rather difficult to approach. On the other hand, the only thing the movie share with the TV series is the characters, and then again they're not exactly the same either :XD The series tend to go story-driven, without much of that techno-psychological babble of the movie, have a real great balance between action and plot, awesome characters including one of the best female leads ever, the animation can still put to shame most of recent animes despite being 5 years old, the soundtrack is an incredible piece of art and it's the only anime ever that actually managed to make me cry twice, in different episodes. It's of Code Geass's level of awesomeness for me :shakefist

yep, they're awesome :nuts i'd say they're the kind i never skip and sometimes even rewind to watch a couple of times before starting the episode :p

i'm surprised you haven't seen GITS yet either, kay-chan. i agree with xophy's very convincing argument. it really is good.....plus there are refs to catcher in the rye, which i know you like ;)

on the other hand, i've yet to see the movie. it sounds like i should wait until i'm in the mood for something heavy and challenging...

Do you usually watch all the OP/ED or do you skip them after a while?
it depends, but i usually watch the OPs (unless i'm really impatient or don't care for the song). i usually skip the EDs on most things after watching them a couple of times (probably why i had such a hard time picking favorites :darn). i rarely like them as much as the OPs anyway.

Yeah, I can definitely see why you guys recommended it. You're right, it deserves a much higher priority than both gundam and HxH. Watched 3 episodes so far, and while I'd only classify the 1st as "good," the 2nd and 3rd were incredible.

I love it when single episodes can tell a complete story and still have it be really meaningful.

So far, My favorite caracters are: Sena, Hiruma and Mamori... Mostly Hiruma, he's funny as hell and sadistic too <.<

I'm enjoyimg reading it so far... with all the suggestions I had for a good new manga to read ( After reading 2 or 3 Chapters of each ) I only kept 2: D. Gray-Man and Eyeshield 21. I've Started reading D.Gray-Man first and now I've Catched to the present story line, I must say, its one of the best manga I've read so far and the Anime is good too. As for Eyeshield 21, I've just started and I'm up to chapter 15 now, Its one of the funniest manga I've read, the art is good and the plot aswell.

Do you have a manga you like above the Others ? and why ?

Okay so I think if you wanna save time you may just go on with the manga and skip the anime like you said, since you have a lot of to-watch probably. But! You shouldn't miss the soundtrack. the RK OST is great!

and! Should you decide to miss the anime, I hope you wouldn't pass up on the OVAs. :wtf

RK IS SOOOOOOOO AWESOME!

It is the most believable manga so far. I absolutely love the amount of moderation that the author has in this manga. The powerup is not absurd and overly done *ahem*Ichigo*ahem*. I give it a 5 star without a doubt. And to think that you only get the chance to read it now ..... :wtf

READ THE MANGA !!
You can watch the anime but restrain yourself from going beyond episode 62. I just want to save you some painful experiences of watching fillers......

Remember to watch the OVAs too!! They are fabulous! :wtf

ok, i'll keep that in mind if i ever do decide to watch the anime. you know, i always used to watch all the fillers of everything, but i think i might change that. there's too much quality stuff out there for me to waste my time with filler. :shakefist

Remember to watch the OVAs too!! They are fabulous! :wtf
ok, ok. i will!

this makes me a little nervous, but i'll still watch them. :darn is it possible to tell me why you didn't like them without spoiling?

There are two sets of OVAs:

Tsuiokuhen - 4 episodes long. Tells the story of one of the flashbacks in the manga (don't ask me for the volume numbers, but it's part of the last long arc. You'll know it when you get there). And I'm not linking to it because every summary of this OVA spoils like crazy (so please avoid them).

Seisouhen - 2 episodes. A continuation of the manga of sorts where Kaoru reflects on her life after the events in the manga took place. I haven't watched this one, but it's generally regarded to be pretty unfaithful to the spirit of the manga.

Regarding Tsuiokuhen, it's not that I hated it exactly... don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful story (one of my favorites from the manga), and the OVA is actually fairly faithful to the manga. I just preferred the manga, that's all. I read the manga first though, so I'm probably biased. I also didn't like both the music and the animation style, so that didn't help either.

But watch it though and judge for yourself. Just... read the manga first. :nod

well yeah I mean, do read the manga first, tiffany.

we have contradicting opinions though, Kay-chan and me, on the OVAs. I won't say anything about Seisouhen since I don't wanna waste my time in articulating what it actually was -_-;

But Tsuiokuhen, I happened to like the art and music. :wtf so... er... rustic? ahahahaha.

The music really bugged me more than anything, actually. It was this weird, sweeping, orchestral stuff (not bad on its own maybe) that really didn't feel like it fit with the tone of the story. that's probably just me though. Most people like it. -_-;

Hey you guys! Long time no... read! LOL

I've been itchin to come back here and chat with you guys. I hope that I didn't offend or annoy anyone with my previous posts :sweatbunny. I appologize if I did, but hello, those were so long ago.

I want to be apart of this topic too. So first off, what is this OVA and Tsuiokuhen that we're talking about? I really would like to know. :tem

Tsuiokuhen was one of the most beautiful and touching OVAs ever made....i have to rewatch it soon, it's been quite a while :~ It always makes me cry...:x
I know people that don't know Kenshin or anime at all, but watched it and loved - even my mom xD
It's truly perfect, one of my favourites ever.

*totally biased review, heh! But it's true! xD*

After reading the manga, watching the terrible anime series and falling in love with the 1st ovas, I was really anxious for Seisouhen....and i was kinda disappointed. It's depressing, and the feeling is that those characters you have grown to love just aren't the same that are there...

Aww... *tear! Agrias! That's so beautiful. :crying I plan on watching it soon then. But I have another question, is Tsuiokuhen based around the story of Ruruni Kenshin? Because I used to love watching that anime. I was still young at the time when it was a manga (which I think that it was or still is) and I didn't know about it yet.

and even though that review of yours truly was a biased one, its not like every other review isn't a biased opinion in MH. Half of the posts read are biased. lol

I'm so happy you're discovering Kenshin! For many people, Kenshin was their first real step into anime/manga. :D

For me, Kenshin has to be the best manga series I've ever read. It's a perfectly brilliant story with a huge heart. Hmmm...actually I did a review of it years ago...must try and dig it up again.

I have seen the anime up to the first two arcs and since the third is 100% filler, I ignored that. I enjoyed the anime. No, it's not as good as the manga, but Kenshin's Japanese VA is sooooo cute (female of course) and Tactics is such an awesome song!!! There is tons of cheesy-but-good pop on the first OST.

As for the OVAs Trust and Betrayal is just awesome! Watch it!

But Reflections is crap. Utter rubbish. It's the studio's take on fanfiction basically and it has virtually nothing to do with the manga and has Kenshin doing things he simply would not do.

Um...spoiler contains a mini rant about the ending, but no plot is revealed, only me describing feelings about it, so read at own risk.

It has what I would describe as a horrible, horrible ending. I know some people who like that ending and I cannot imagine what there is to like about such an unjustified, uncharacteristic ending. /rant

But I can't wait for your thoughts on the manga! I bet you fall in love with Kenshin just like everyone else does. :smile-big

Ah found it: my old review of the anime from episodes 1-49. This is an extract from a longer piece of writing. Ah heck, I am just realising that most if it could be potential spoiler...it does give away some plot but...I dunno if it's spoiling as such...gah.

...the reason for the intense emotional involvement on the part of the viewer is down to this: the strength of this series lies in the beauty of Himura Kenshin as a truly fascinating and deeply complex character who we yearn to know more about. Kenshin is the mind, heart and soul of this story and it's his bittersweet journey of self-discovery and self-sacrifice that is important to us, and not really the spectacular fight scenes, or the slap-stick comedy or even the sumptuous villains. As good as the support cast are, when they are not around, they are not missed. When Kenshin isn't around he is sorely missed.

I read once, a comment regarding Trigun, that the support cast were so-so and 'only there to make Vash look good'. The reality is that Vash is such an overwhelming character presence everybody else simply pales by comparison. The same can be said of Kenshin, who is such an undeniably dynamic and powerful character, that the competition is blown away; a sentiment echoed by Watsuki himself when he admits that both Kenshin and Sano are so strong as to make the rest of the cast appear weak when they're not..

Kenshin's startling 'realness' is largely down to the beautiful little traits and idiosyncrasies that his creator has bestowed upon him, such as his trademark 'oro', his looking back over his shoulder in that apologetic way, his superbly drawn eyes and his habit of uttering 'that is' and 'that it will' Yoda-style, at the end of every second sentence, among others. Even the children who come and go throughout the series imitate his quirky speech pattern. It's used to great effect in scenes where Kenshin looks as deadly as death itself, to signal the re-emergence of the kinder, gentler Kenshin we all know and love.

OK, I took away the spoiler bit...er...so now it's an incomplete review. :XD

Tsuiokuhen is based in a certain flashback part of the manga. Seisouhen is sightly based on the manga, adding things that just wouldnt ever happen, and lots of oocness.
