View Full Version : Discussion Who's Done More for Naruto's Growth: Akatsuki versus Sasuke
July 27, 2008, 04:57 PM
Simple question really. When it's all said and done (up to this point), who's done more for Naruto's growth?
We can easily credit Kakashi's favouritism of Sasuke for Naruto learning the Rasangen. But after that it gets a bit hazy, so answers on a post card, or in this thread.

Until now, sasuke, first as rival, now as a friend to save, the thing that makes him become stronger is thinking in sasuke, fights and other things like akatsuki, all derives from that bond with sasuke.:amuse

Well Sasuke has been there for far longer than Akatsuki in Naruto's life. Akatsuki has only taken a place late in part 1 and in part 2 while Sasuke has been there nearly since chapter 3 to motivate Naruto to grow stronger.
Mind you, if you stretch it far enough, it does come back to Akatsuki. Sasuke's leave of the village(and therefore Naruto's strife post-timeskip) roots back to Itachi, who is in Akatsuki.

ultimately, it's akatsuki...only akatsuki has been more passive (up until recently) about it while naruto's growth due to sasuke has been direct. Take the time line far back enough, and akastuki (madara) is the one to blame for putting the kyuubi within naruto in the first place, and most of his growth can be attributed to his connection with the kyuubi. Akatsuki wins.

that's way too convoluted.
but it like this. thanks to sasuke naruto has learned what exactly? more determination and what else?
where as when you look at akatsuki, jiraiya taught naruto how to use the kyuubi chkra, how to summon frogs and how to create the base rasangen all to protect himself from akatsuki. and now he's learning the sage arts in a bid to avenge his teacher and that's another tick for akatsuki.
at the best, the only thing that sasuke has really caused is the prompt to learn FRS.
(i acknowledge i credited sasuke for the rasangen earlier but, but i recalled jiraiya explaining his reasons for it after my post).

I think sasuke has indirectly contributed more to naruto´s growth.
During part 1 naruto always worked to be stronger than sasuke and constantly seeked his acknowledgement. That lead to a heated up discussion during the hospital fight about headbands.
By the end of part 1 naruto went to train with jiraiya having as main motivation to bring sasuke back before oro got his body and to be able to stand up to akatsuki and oro.
During the first arc of part 2 sasuke wasnt mention that much but remembering sasuke was like a taboo for naruto and sakura. ALso during their fights with akatsuki naruto was trying to get information about orochimaru so that they could find sasuke.
Later on naruto started TKB training with his main motivation being sasuke sinc sasuke was much stronger then he was (according to yamato and kakashi) and even naruto´s motivation for beating the crap out of kakusu was sasuke.
Even further into the story naruto decided to go after sasuke again and failed miserably and was even depressed about no being able to find him.
Naruto´s motivation only apparently changed when jiraiya died and switch from retrieving sasuke to avenging the pervy sage.
I would say sasuke has colaborated more to naruto´s growth than akatsuke even if sasuke didnt mean to do it.

As of right now, he's more concentrated on AK. The reason he's training with the frogs right now is to defeat pein, Pa frog said it himself. However, I think that Sasuke has had a much greater early life influence.

It's one thing having a rival, but i mean if you look at the chuunin exam for example, Kakashi was willing to leave Naruto to Ebisu of all people. Luckily he stumbled across Jiraiya and Jiraiya taught him how to conciously mix his chakra with the kyuubi's and put him on the right track. We later find out all about Akatsuki and stuff, so we find out that he was basically just preparing him.
So basically while Naruto was competing with Sasuke, everything he learned from Jiraiya (which is most of what he knows) was so that he could defend himself against the Akatsuki.

sasuke wins this easily....he's connection to naruto is far to strong though akatsuki has taken the spotlight but the only thing dat has motivated naruto ishe's quite to save sasuke,he's battles with akatsuki members are just test runs 4 him as seen in his battle with kakuzu...prophecy puts sasuke way over the top.

Emotion-wise, Naruto developed his character through his search for his friend Sasuke. However, his power and strength as a ninja were physically developed through his constant battles with Akatsuki.
Since Naruto's victory against Kakuzu and Pain, he has greatly shown us his mettle and power as a ninja. We can even compare that he has become a lot better than the genius upper-ninjas like Neji and Shino.

Akatsuki has done more for Naruto's growth than Sasuke. It was Pain that taught Naruto the realities of the world and how it felt like to lose a loved one, and what it meant to want revenge. Although it was through Gaara Naruto felt a loss, he wasn't as close to Gaara as he was to Jiraiya, and Gaara came back to life. Naruto's maturation occurred, to me, after his battle with Pain although he does act like a dunderhead most of the time. It was after that battle we saw Naruto go "I need to mature and master Kyuubi!" although that's more because of him meeting Minato.
Hell, Sasuke just inspired him to grow balls against ninjas when he was against Zabuza. Seeing how Sasuke was fearless made Naruto wanna improve, although his training with Sasuke was what helped enabled him to progress at much faster rate. Although Naruto still strives to be better than Sasuke, mental growth must be attributed to Akatsuki IMO, especially Pain.

they both get equal recognition for naruto's growth... Sasuke get's recognition because he played the psychological portion to naruto's growth and then Akatsuki get's the Physical growth portion. and everyone know's in order for both of you to grow you need the mind and body... so neither can be said to play a bigger part in his growth.

Id have to say that Sasuke has more involvement in Naruto's growth than anything else.
Sasuke was his rival, some1 he aspired to be, and he worked to no extent to try and catch up to him.
Back then it was his rivalry that kept him going, later it became a mission to rescue him, because Sasuke was the first real bond he had, Sasuke was some1 that Naruto could relate to, they were both alone.
Part 1 showed us that Naruto worked harder and harder to become as strong as Sasuke, Kishi clearly showed us the rivalry.
Part 2 has had added depth to the story, and Naruto's goal had changed a bit, yet it was still because of Sasuke that he worked hard.
During the Rasen-Shuriken training, Naruto went back to training the moment he thought of Sasuke.
The only part which wasnt really showing us involvement of Sasuke within's Naruto training was when he trained for Sage mode, which made him ready for Nagato.
Kyuubi's control training, took roots because he HAD to ahve his power in order to match Sasuke, Naruto himself admited inferiority regarding his strength compared to Sasuke's.
Nagato sure did make Naruto grow up as a young man, it made him understand people's feeling and point of view better, but all this time, during the whole manga, Sasuke was always there for Naruto to get stronger.
W/o Nagato's involvement, things would now be different, and the prophecy maybe would not even be possible but, Sasuke's involvement was needed just like Nagato's was, but its clear or should at least be that Sasuke has played a much longer priority role in Naruto's growth than any1 else, which is why he is the person who has impacted him his growth the most.
You can't deny, w/o Sasuke, Naruto wouldnt be who he is right now because Sasuke was there and has had his influence from the VERY START and even before, while on the other hand, if Nagato had not been there,,,, Naruto would have been the very same person UNTIL Nagato attacked, only after the pain arc Naruto's path could have varied.
BUt do not get me wrong.... Nagato's arc WAS NEEDED, and was a key moment in Naruto's growth but Sasuke has played a LONGER role than him and also a more important role.
This manga is all about Naruto saving Sasuke now...
And in the end, Naruto will grow even more due to everything that is happening/happened to Sasuke.
Naruto shares Sasuke's pain, and that will turn him into an even greater young man that he is now, i believe, that Sasuke's life will be used as an example to how this world is cruel and how its hatred can destroy one's life (Sasuke), and that with Sasuke's death/life, Naruto will make people understand each other better, and that it will be with Sasuke's example, that he will be able to make peace happen.
