Naruto 435: Banshou Tennin / Divine Attractor

Overall Chapter

Let's rumble and dance!

To me, this is a somber and melancholy chapter, as Naruto suffers another loss of yet another sensei at the hands of Pain. I’ve never seen this coming until I read the spoilers, and automatically speculated that Fuaksaku is killed, not defeated or hurt as others tried to say. After all a battle with Pain, the end result is nothing but death. But how this entire occurrence happens is also still unbelievable. Kishimoto isn’t really holding back in the killing department lately. Not to mention he makes us love a character, only to have him or her killed by the bad guys. First it was Kousuke who bite dust (because of Danzou) and now it’s Fukasaku at the hands of Pain. Overall, the chapter suspenseful, somber, with Pain showing why he is the omnipotent God.

Ugly Frog-ling Goes Bust

Well, God saw first hand how Naruto pulled another first one oh him. Naruto’s mischievous eyes, not-so-smirk and Pain’s expression says it all! :tem. Last week Yahiko / Deva-Realm proclaimed arrogantly that Kyuubi has been captured, and I wrote in the conclusion of my last review that it isn’t over till the fat lady sings. Yahiko Pain believed that if Naruto’s Sennin-Mode were taken away, he would be an easy capture. However, Naruto not willing to give up despite how grim the situation looked, found a way. He used Sennin Mode’s disadvantage to his full-benefit, and the results are more than what Deva-Realm / Yahiko Pain had bargained / hoped for.

On the other hand, Hungry-Ghost Realm found out the hard way that absorbing senjustu energy is not good for the health. Believing that by holding Naruto still in his full-nelson grip, and absorbing Senjutsu energy will put Naruto in his place. Unfortunately, I don’t think he was prepared for the consequences -- as to what happens when one absorbs too much Senjutsu chakra.

Damn it! I'm a God! This shouldn't be happening to me!

What I liked the most is the Deva-Realm / Yahiko Pain’s stunned WTF expressions as he observes Hungry-Ghost Realm turning into a frog then into a stone. Sennin Mode is a double-edged sword as Pain gathered, but unfortunately he is not concerned. Why should he be? After all, God is omnipotent, and he has never ever lost a battle. An interesting point to note is that Hungry-Ghost realm’s eyes – it’s almost as if Rinnegan is being pushed as Frog eyes are taking over due to sucking up too much Senjutsu chakra.

What about the Frogs
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj7/a2042_2008/Naruto/Naruto%20435/010.jpg

As Naruto manages to get out of the tight hole, he finds out, through Katsuyu, that the six bodies are just puppets and nothing more. Naruto looks even more serious.

On the other hand, the frogs are simply out of commission for the duration of the battle. I don’t think that in their current condition they can help Naruto in anyway. Gamabunta has all his bones broken; Ken and Hiro are basically knocked out. Their direct approach, and not-so-sneak attack failed miserably.

Real or Illusion

The death rears its ugly head once more as Deva-Realm / Yahiko Pain most certainly decides that it’s time to a teach lesson. He does so by mercilessly killing 800-year-old Sennin Fukasaku by impaling him with his infamous chakra rod from inside out. The way the rod is impaled, it gives me extremely less hope of the chances of Fukasaku surviving. Not to mention being an extreme pessimist that I’m, I believe that he is actually dead. Though there are some that say all this is nothing but a part of genjutsu. Whether or not the scene is a genjutsu, this is one of the most painful and disturbing ones that I’ve ever read, well that is after Danzou murdered Kousuke. I almost cried, and yet still now I can’t believe that Kishimoto did this.

NOOOO!We're falling one by one!

What’s worse is that how helpless Naruto looked as he could do nothing to prevent Fukasaku’s death. He tried his best to intercept Fukasaku, but this time, both time and speed were not on his side. Thus, both he and Ma-Frog could do nothing but helplessly watch Pa-Frog’s demise. Not to mention, Pain was already prepared to kill Fuaksaku as he had already drawn out his infamous chakra-disrupting rod. Unfortunately, the worst is not yet over for Naruto, at least not by a long shot.

Ghost Eyes Looms Again

Naruto! I'm the Boogeyman!

Now, Naruto joins the group of shinobis (Jiraiya, Kakashi) who saw the Rinnegan visions after getting impaled by the infamous chakra disruptor rod. The first time when both Hungry-Ghost Realm and Deva Pain decided to use the black rod, they failed severely since Naruto was in Sennin Mode. Unfortunately, since Naruto is no longer in that Mode, and shocked at Fukasaku’s death, he could do nothing as Deva Pain pulled him with his Banshou Tennin. Not to mention, Deva-realm flicked Fukasaku’s body towards Naruto so that he couldn’t attack. After then Pain proceeded to brutally beat Naruto to the ground (while choking him) before he got crucified in the hands by the infamous rod.

God (not Pain here) the scene was realistic, graphic. It almost as if you can feel the hurt that Naruto is getting. Then Pain’s condescending talking and his supercilious look is most likely to make anyone rile up (especially if don’t like Pain). Deva-Pain gave a whole new meaning to the word arrogant. But I still believe that Pain has come to his graveyard, he will not leave Konoha alive.

Either obey / worship me or face my wrath and just die!

The setting has already been set up as many speculated since Deva-Pain will have a chat with a confused Naruto – probably about his motives and whatnot. Villain giving speech to the hero is typically considered that his / her defeat is coming soon. (Otherwise, why the talk scene) Since this gives hero the time to think of a backup plan to escape while villains is gloating about their desires, motives, evil-plots to dominate the world and what not. But the question is how will Naruto counter the effects of chakra disruption? Will Kyuubi come into play because he most certainly doesn’t like when others try to mess with Naruto’s chakra system or Naruto for that matter? He will do anything to keep Naruto alive.

R.I.P Shizune
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj7/a2042_2008/Naruto/Naruto%20435/011.jpg
Great! Now I lie on the broken pieces of rubbles. Kishi seriously doesn't like us girls

Well, without a doubt, I think most people knew that Shizune died when Human realm pulled out her soul. I mean without a soul, a body doesn’t live, unless, of course, you’re the 6 Pain realms. But still this chapter officially confirmed that Shizune is dead through Ino as they meet up with Shikamaru’s group. As usual, we get to see their shocked reaction to Shizune’s death, but they can’t mourn unless they find out about the real Pain. I’m glad to see that Ino, Inoichi, and unnamed ANBU survived Konoha nuclear blast.

Detectives at Work

"Its all about the eyes and brains" - Sherlock Holmes

Bummer, real Pain (aka Nagato) has really been prepared for his battle. Ino’s father is having difficulty locking into Pain chakra since its fluctuating its frequency. Thus they decide use to Katsuyu to gather info from every shinobi who has had any contact with Pain –dead or alive – doesn’t matter. After all, even dead bodies talk since their body leaves behind evidence. Thus, when Shikamaru requests to “bring the corpses” to have a thorough look at it, is when Inochi seems to realize something important about the bodies. What it is that Inoichi realized will have to wait until chapter 436 is released (or at least the spoilers). Though I like the build of the mystery?

dude...(dudette) ur review is pretty awesome , i am thinking the time issue has more to do here than any other on why u hadnt gotten responses, but i have my 2 cents on a few things

1-that pain is arrogant! i think pain is confident he is not arrogant he has time again acknowledged his opponents. he obviously doesn't praise em, but jiraya , naruto and kakashi all got the acknowledgement as being people who either pushed him this far or were a necessity to kill since they were "too dangerous" to live.

2- whats with the RIP shizune stuff, we all saw her die a long time ago... why rehash it ... shouldnt this chapter have a rip fukusaku theme more than a rip shizune. (besides he was a snitch anyway) and we all knew she would never amount to anything big. maybe ino can now actually resolve to be stronger since she hasn't had a death inspire her, she hasnt grown much.

3rd (maybe 3 cents) i would be rather annoyed if it was a genjutsu , cause there wasnt enough time, pain as u said was prepared and apparently the same trick doesnt work twice on him (unless its a kage bunshin)

also nice catch on naruto not being able to stop /get in the way to save fukusaku as this time he could not show the speed that he showed when he saved tsunade in the nick of time. also why i agree that its further proof that fukusaku is dead.

i guess that about covers it for now.

i would suggest that u get the review out a little b4 the spoilers so u get more responses , but dont be disappointed (hopefully ur pessimism fails u there :P ) i mean after all this is the only review that i responded to :D

Thank you for reading.:tem

1. I agree that Pain did acknowlege Naruto (Kakashi and Jiraiya) as a worthy adversary, but still his facial countence made me feel that he still is somwhat arrogant because of his god-complex, and the way he talked and conversed about he wasn't concerned if Naruto beat him. It may be his confidence, but still I believe that was his arrogance. It was actually these following pages that reinforced my belief that Pain is still arrogant.
Page 15 (http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/435/015/) - Are you going to come quietly now, Kyuubi?
Page 17 (http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/435/017/) - the dark Rinnegan look

2. R.I.P Shizune -- just wanted to pay a small homage even though she was a snitch.:mad Though it was already offcial that she was dead a long time ago. I mean who can live, if you don't have a soul.

3. I officially believe fukasaku is dead, and the way Pain spoke that he has had enough of the illusion, the expression on Naruto's and Ma-frog's face already tell us that he is dead.

I'll try to post my reviews earlier on, but I'm extremely hard pressed for it. But I'll try.:D

Again, thank you for reading. :D

Yet another good review. I see you waited to get the top quality reviews, which always makes your reviews look neater. Once again, a pleasure to read.

In the Naruto vs Pain battle, Pain has had a somewhat mediocre showing so far... well, at least in my eyes he has. I mean, hes been pretty much out classed at every juncture... so, do you think that Pain killing(presumably) Fukasaku was Kishimoto's way of reiterating and reintegrating Pains overall badassness/stature as a top level shinobi? or was there some other reason behind it?

Actually, I'm very hard pressed for time nowadays between my job, school etc. Earlier I used to post my reviews more earlier than at the last moment (which unfortunately I'm doing nowadays) :(

Thank you for reading though.:tem

Pain killing Fukasaku was to show that no one intereferes in Pain's plans. Not only this is a way to retireate his badassness as a pyscopathic villain but well as a way to show that he was still in control of the battle, no matter what Naruto or anyone else does, or even if all the 5 realms are out of commission. Another reason would be to show that no one remains alive after he / she / it crosses paths against Pain. Last time, Fukasaku was able to escape Pain (after Jiraiya died), and Deva pain looked frustrated / shocked, but unfortunately he wasn't as lucky this time

>.< Meant to say "scans" instead of reviews. I was tired when I typed that. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.

And a part of me wonders if Fukasaku truly is dead. I'm not so sure that he is, but Kishi has been dropping characters out of the story like flies lately so I honestly wouldn't be surprised.
