Hello all:amuse.....
Sorry for posting this review late, and another sad news is that I will not be doing a review for next week, due to the nasty exam schedule that I have next week and the week after that.

Credits go to AkAtSuKi for scanlating the chapter

Bakuman 31 Review

Tuesday and Friday

Great chapter really, the end of the first battle has come and the results are out for the FGC. What's great about this chapter, is that we get a sneak peek at all the mangas drawn by all the respective teams that have been mentioned to us so far.

Kiyoshi Knight

Does he eat blood??

The first issue came out august 9th, by the awesome Fukuda. His manga “Kiyoshi Knight”. The character design is inspired by Eiji's editor, Hattori; but whether this is a good inspiration or not, I hope Hattori's reputation remains good.

From what I have seen, Kiyoshi Knight looks like an addicting manga, with some funny scenes inbetween, and there is the great addition of the Yakuza, which adds realism to the story line. Also there is the Dosu that was used on the main character: Thanks to Milkymalk for pointing out that the word dosu should have been Tantou, and that is a small sword, and it seems to have an grave effect on the main hero, perhaps he is vunerable to human attacks?

Upon reading Kiyoshi Knight, Mashiro and Takagi aren't sure about their chances or surpassing Fukuda, while Miyoshi lovingly and morally helps both members of Ashirogi Muto.

Then on august 18th Fukuda is given the permission to start making the chapters for serialisation.

Detective Trap

Pretty designs, but I wonder if Mashiro has run out of ideas and drew himself....

Then five days later, august 23rd, the next result comes out for Ashirogi Muto's manga “Detective Trap”. The manga looks great and the main character looks a lot like Mashiro( he is a bit narcissistic, no?:D:p)
However, the main character seems to be righteous, and doesn't take much affection for money, makes me remember Detective Conan.

The feedback from the members who read this manga is very positive, especially from Miyoshi(yes they can defeat Kiyoshi Tonight...), Miho sends Mashiro a text message that she answered the questionnaire, and voted deeply in favour for him. Meanwhile, Fukuda and Eiji discuss the manga, and Eiji says that Detective Trap and Kiyoshi Knight are a tie for him, meaning that Aoki's manga took the third.

Then both Mashiro and Takagi are given the green light to begin drawing the chapters for the serialisation. While at the same time Koogy shows his narcissistic side once more when he refuses to read any manga from his competition.

HideOut Door

Pretty colors, shiny pixies...must touch...

Then we get a sneak peak on Aoki's manga “Hideout Door”, the story is pretty interesting, not the destructive or kill-them-all type; but it serves another fresh intake on mangas, similar to Chronicles of Narnia in a sense. The drawing details, and the inking is superb, something Nakai can be proud of.
The third call in a row, Nakai gets the green light for making the serialisation chapters.

It is great to see Nakai succeed in participating in serialisation. But his teary eyes looked creepy on someone like him...

ColorFusical

Somebody was high on LSD.....I ain't saying names.....

Then we get the “awesome” Koogy and his manga, “colorfusical”, looks artistic and imaginative; but according to the feedback from Miyoshi and Co., the manga doesn't do a good job in clearly sending the message.
And the final results are out giving at the mangas from Fukuda, Ashirogi Muto, and Aoki third rank while Koogy gets a whooping 14th rank.
Then after receiving the news of his manga, Koogy acting like a rock-star destroys his guitar and vows a strong comeback.

Predictions and Rating: 9/10, great chapter, we have seen all of the mangas from all the competitors, and things are going to get much more interesting as Koogy bounces back from his initial defeat.

Thanks Barril

Haha, I was saying LSD when I wrote it, but it came off as LCD. I should never write reviews when I am sugar high, should I??:darn,

Wikipedia Japan redirects a search for "dosu" in Hiragana to the page for "Tantou", so it's just that I guess.

You'd have to excuse my ignorance Milkymalk, but what is Dosu or Tantou about or its relevance to this review.....I can't read Japanese:)

Uh, just look at the picture in the article :)

A tantou is, literally, a "short sword". There's also an English Wikipedia article, but it doesn't have any references to the word "dosu", while the Japanese article redirects "dosu" to "tantou".

About its relevance, look at the page from "Kiyoshi Knight" again and/or read your own comment below the picture :)

Ooh, Thank you Milkymalk (http://mangahelpers.com/forums/member.php?u=79716), I haven't noticed that detail.

Well, the word used in the scanlation chapter that i used was Dosu, as you can see from the picture.

However, I will adjust my review to be correct. Thank you again for this:)

Nah, no problem :-) The raw really says "dosu", it's just the same as a tantou. Or close enough.

I don't think it's that Kiyoshi is especially vulnerable to it though (not more than any human), since the translation is a bit off: He actually says "Even yakuza don't simply whip out something like that nowadays" ("kantan ni" instead of "kantan na"), being surprised that a mere highschooler used such a weapon without hesitation.

I'm not quite sure just what his power is, because the only inhuman thing on him are his teeth...

Well, there seems to be something special about that boy, but at this point I don't think it matters a lot:)
