two things that have never made sense to me about sakata:
1. why does he always wear sunglasses? at first I thought he had some sort of skin condition: http://www.mangavolume.com/index.php?serie=gantz&chapter=gantz-109&page_nr=9, but he even wears them during the night: http://www.mangavolume.com/index.php?serie=gantz&chapter=gantz-197&page_nr=17
2. why did Sakata tell Sakurai that because of using his powers his organs have greatly aged? It doesn't make any sense, Gantz repairs everything you when you arrive to the gantz room (remember how Kishimoto tells Kei that all her scars are gone and Kei is suprised to find his burn marks gone and the old guy who had cancer woke up in the gantz room cured. Gantz also fixes your body every time you enter the Gantz room. So either A: Sakata is lying to Sakurai to try to get him to stop using his powers for some reason or B: Oku fucked up.

Hmm...I dunno...
Maybe with his psychic powers his vision has been enhanced. If that is the case, maybe he just thinks he looks cool in his sunglasses (which he does in my opinion :p) and decided "Hell, I can see equally well with my sunglasses on, why not look cool why?"
I know....this seems a little far-fetched, but it's the only possibility I can think of.
[hr]
I must say that, about the organs going bad due to the powers, I'm a little confused.
If he DID lie about his organs getting aged very fast in order to get Cherry to use his powers less, why would he even bother? The only reason I see for Cherry to limit the use of his powers is to stop his organs from ageing.
.....
Or maybe Sakata used his psychic powers and could see Cherry would become a useless character in the future and decided that he'd tell Cherry to limit the use of his psychic powers...
Well...seriously, maybe Oku just needed a reason for Cherry not to use his powers in order for Cherry to get 0 points. So it's not REALLY a fuck up by Oku.

That's what I think, cause if I were there in Osaka or Italy and I had powers, I would use them even if it were some how true that they were eventually gonna cause organ failure.
Oku must have regretted the whole powers thing or he's planning something big with Sakurai.

I see your point Revilenigma.
I think it's worth ageing your organs a little bit instead of getting torn to shreds by Nuri. Sakata's organs only aged after practically a whole lifetime of using powers. One or two missions wouldn't have affect Cherry much, I don't think. :p

I don't even think it's even possible to have your organs aged if your in Gantz. Let's say if it were possible that Gantz doesn't fix everything on you before and after every mission, Sakata's long time use would have killed him before he ever got killed by Izumi
-Uses Powers for about 5-10 years before entering Gantz = okay
-Arrives in Gantz which has proven to fix everything on your body (scars, burns, cancer)
-2 or 3 missions later= health problems

Actually, if you think about it, Gantz would have known all about it; that's why he always called him dumbass. The Gantz missions occur every 2 weeks to 1 month. There was the Dino mission, then the horsemen, then the Oni mission, when Sakata told Cherry about the fact that he had seen a doctor a while back, and had been told about the damage. At that point, he had been in the Gantz room somewhere between 24 days, if the missions followed the early schedule of a mission every 12 days, and a maximum of 2 months if they followed the later schedule after Kei figured out that the mission schedule had changed before the 1000 arms mission. He had probably just went to the doctor before he died and went to the Gantz room. Since we're talking about internal organs, Gantz knows he's a dumbass for not realizing his body was healed and can use his powers to their full extent every mission without any problems, but Sakata the dumbass just hadn't realized it yet.

That makes a lot of sense, man Sakata sure is a dumbass, I would still like to know why he wears sunglasses during the night. The only thing I can think of is that he has really sensitive eyes.

Inaba wore sunglasses all the time because he's badass and Oku wanted an easy way to portray him as one, he was called "dumbass" by Gantz because he was a know it all, in regards to his organs ageing, Gantz wouldn't have healed him everytime he enetered the room, we don't know how often he used his powers outside of Gantz or what kind of lifestyle he lead.

Im looking forward to the theories about Sakata. He is in my top 5. Why he didn't let Cherry to do suicide? why did he give the power to him? There are blind spots...
Anyway he looks cool in the wayfarer style sun glasses :)

Perhaps he wasn't even human and he really did bestow his powers on Sakurai, he may have been hiding some creepy looking eyes.

Sakata was awesome indeed...He wore sunglasses because he was a badass.
I remember there was a time when the kurono fandom began to hate Sakata because he did not wanted to bring back Kurono.
His speech at that time was indeed very cold, it brought a cold sentation that was being forgotten due to the optimistic Kato...i kinda liked it.

I hated him for it too but in a sense Sakata was right for about every person they revive two die in there place, now all we got left are 8 gantzers

He's probably wearing sunglasses 'cause his vision's enhanced due to psychic powers. I mean, if he can see into people's heads, he sure as hell can see through sunglasses.......
Plus, they make him look cool!:darn

Oh yeah...he was TOTALLY a badass!
Unfortunately....I really don't think he'll come back to life....even if they had 100 points to spend; they'd spend about 3 pages thinking about it....but they'd remember what he said at the start of the Nuri mission and not bring him back. His part in the story is over, I dare say...I'm not happy about it, but that's just the way Oku roll's, I guess. :eyeroll

Well. That's the way of life. (rather way of Gantz) :)
His part in the story is over. Same like Izumi, unfortunately :(

Sakata wasn't cold when he told Katou not to revive. He was
being honest and he was right, Gantz is a horrible cycle. Someone
dies and someone takes their place. It does cheapen your existence
to you can be wished back to life, like it was nothing. I don't blame
Sakata for not wanting to be braught back to life. Sakata was a real
man for saying that. That's why he is my favorite character.

holy crap maybe it was! but then it would be impossible for sakurai to have powers, but I think it's highly possible that he was in the Gantz room before, maybe that's why gantz calls him dumbass, cause he doesn't remember that he was there.

There could be many possibilities for him to recognize the black ball in some way...
As teh100pointer and digitaldude noted, he could have been in the Gantz room once. It would seem logical, that he chose freedom when he got 100 points (I don't think he would've chosen a better weapon because of his psychic abilities or reviving someone).
What came also up to my mind is that maybe he saw the transport of the Gantz ball, since they somehow have to be managed to get from Germany to Tokyo... maybe experimenting with his abilities, he might have seen the Tokyo ball in a transporter, but since it was just a big ball (if that isn't strange enough :p), he didn't care much about it...
Or maybe he saw some user-avatar of a Gantz ball while he was surfing in some forums - you never know until Oku reveals more details about it :D

he could also call him dumbass, because he left with such high potential as a Gantzer ;)

I had completely forgotten about that.
For a second I thought Sakata might have been in the room before and got the powers as a reward, but if I remember correctly Sakata said his powers were given to him by someone, like he gave them to Sakurai. If the powers came from gantz, he would not even know he had powers, much less remember their origin.
Still, I'll bet the origin of the chain of ESP lies in gantz. As does the origin of the vampire virus, and most or all of the other aliens.

I think that Oku wouldn't have put Sakata as saying something as significant as that without any purpose. Oku rarely makes mistakes and this one seems to be too big possibly to be an error.
Although Sakata is dead I don't think his part in the story is over; even if this means that more will be revealed of him because of Cherry...
Or it could simply be that he did, in fact, see it on TV...remember that reporter telling Kurono about this big cult in Germany that worships a very, very big black sphere?

I think the reason the organs aging thing is still valid is because gantz just heals whatever he wants to.
Look at old man, he still has wrinkles, and is quite feeble without his suit regardless. That old lady got really tired from running from the bird aliens as well.
If you need more proof, look at the fat zoku guy nishi killed before the bird mission. He was beaten to death, then revived, but gantz didn't give him back his teeth, probably because he thought it was funny. He also cured the guy from the first mission's cancer, but he was still feeble as well.

April 21, 2009, 10:59 PM
I agree with Winterwyrm. Gantz has never deaged anyone, so I don't see why that is being questioned. As for the sunglasses, he possibly had hyperesthesia or something like that that makes his senses hyper sensitive.

lets say thats right. Would that mean that anything you do while you are a hunter in gantz... You can make yourself fit and do the opposite? Whatever you do while you are not hunting... Like smoking, drinking... doing drugs. Getting some disease. Gantz isn't kind enough to heal stuff that slowly kill you?. And anything that that will surely kill you, like losing a lot of blood... Losing an arm.. He would repair it?
We've seen guys lose their heads before their transfer. I mean, they died... But what if it was deliberate? Would gantz still be kind enough to heal a lost arm? We haven't had a case where before the transfer someone lost a limb.. makes me wonder what kind of categories Gantz will think of before he makes a transfer..
Kozar927
April 22, 2009, 08:27 AM
Thier have been many many many many limbs lost before the transpher.
1st Mission: Katou lost arm
3rd mission: Kei lost arm and leg
tae mission: old man lost limbs
Nuri mission: Iniba and old man lost limbs
Italy mission: Kei lost arm and leg
Their are actully alot more examples but i dont wanna look for um
gantz brought all teir limbs back
croissant
April 22, 2009, 08:59 AM
Im sorry... Kinda bad at explaining... I meant the transfer before the mission. And a deliberate one too. Like you are already a hunter in gantz. But you messed up your body while off-mission.. Would he still repair it?
Kozar927
April 22, 2009, 09:14 AM
Ohhh lol I gotcha now =P
Personally I think he still would. I belive the healing is built into the transfer process but who knows
digitaldude
April 22, 2009, 09:32 AM
Well, it might repair limbs because you would just die of blood lose very fast, but if your organs are messed up you would not get them healed, because you don`t die instantly from it, unless your kidney or liver fails before the mission or something.

Aging isn't a disease or any illness. Gantz has been shown to heal those. He probably still could. Those are all complications that involve some external influence. The aging thing however was completely caused by the body itself, so Gantz probably can't fix that.
It's simple. If you are transferred you are healed to your best condition possible. Their very first entry into the room is proof enough of that because all burns, scars, and even illnesses were gone.
This actually does deal with one of the more popular teleportation theories. The idea is that a computer can copy all aspects of that individuals body down to every last detail, then it can generate that somewhere else. It deals with cloning, and even though it would probably be one of the quickest methods to making teleportation possible it doesn't really reach the right goal you know? This is the idea I think they use in Gantz. It doesn't mean that they are cloned every time they are transferred though. I do think Gantz uses something related to cloning to heal them though. Either that or the program only copies the foundations of the body, which would overlook the damages, and then it uses that to transfer them. They may be torn down to their very own dna and built from the bottom up every time for all we know.
