352 The Lust 6

Hey there and welcome to my review of The Lust 6. I’m in a bit of a rush this week due to some assignments that I have to hand in next week, so I haven’t been able to get online the last few days. I’ll still be busy next week as well, and depending on the results of one assignment I may decide to skip a review next week. Anyway, I’ve used this review as a way to get my mind of things for a while, so I may have overlooked some things -both story wise as well as the writing of this review. But let’s get to this chapter first; we’ll get to the next review another time -next week. This week’s pictures are from Sleepy Fans, who are improving the quality of their fast releases at a steady rate.

Cold as Ice

Like winter in the Sahara

The chapter starts off with a victory for Rukia, who froze Rudobone using her Sode no Shirayuki. While I hypothesized that the key to defeating Rudobone would be in his roots in one of my previous reviews, I forgot the even more basic solution to killing fruits. Where I thought that Rudobone used his roots to suck Reiatsu from the sands of Hueco Mundo -which may still be true- and cutting off his roots to prevent him from gathering Reiatsu to make Calaveras would be the key to defeating him, Rukia just took the principle of winter into account. Beneath a certain temperature most trees drop leafs in order to prevent damage by frost, and Rudobone seems to work in the same manner. So Rukia, using the information given by Rudobone on his release, decided to bring winter to the desert, cutting off Rudobone’s ability. All in all it must have been a great display of Rukia’s abilities if you think that she was able to defeat the Calaveras and freeze an opponent of Rudobone’s level, so I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see her in action. But seeming as how it would have gotten into the way of other developments, this may have been for the best. As Rukia stares Rudobone -who is damning his overconfidence- down with an ice-cold look on her face, someone else finishes the fight for her.

Steroid abuse or growth spurt?

With friends like this, who needs enemies?

Rukia is blown away by the sudden appearance of Yammy, though not as much as Rudobone who receives a fist full from the Espada. For whatever reason, Yammy decided to take out Rudobone (ally) instead of Rukia (enemy) in what later turns out to be something of a rage. Whether this was an accident or a need to hit someone, Rukia should be happy with her petite build.
The building on which Rukia and Rudobone were fighting starts to crumble due to Yammy’s sudden entrance. We then see that their fight had been moved closer to the area where Chad and Renji were fighting all the Hollows, which seem to have been defeated already. Chad, Renji, and Rukia -who fell down on a piece of the building- stand amazed at the appearance of the Espada, as Chad is the only one to recognize him as Yammy. Renji and Rukia only seemed to know of him through the report from Hitsugaya, whereas Chad knows him as the guy to destroy his arm, though he seems to have grown.
Chad explains that Yammy has grown since their first encounter, which Renji thinks to be unlikely as he comments that it’s impossible for Yammy to have had a growth spur as if he was a teenager. Chad explains that Yammy has become several times bigger than before, and if Chad thinks Yammy is big, we can say that Yammy is gigantic. Perhaps we could have noticed that Yammy had already grown when he appeared in the tower a few chapters back, though I accounted it to presence rather than actual size. So my bad, I just didn’t think that Yammy would become like the incredible Hulk -growing bigger with anger and losing the ability to distinguish friend from foe.
Yammy go smash Quincy, or rather, Yammy yells that he wants to kill Ishida to get back at him, which could mean that he had just landed at the bottom of the tower to hit Rudobone in a fit of rage. The fact that he hit Rudobone instead of Rukia is something that bothers me a bit, though this way it’s more amusing and it saves Rukia the pain that Rudobone deserved. As Yammy screams and raises his Reiatsu in a fit of rage, he gets interrupted by another burst of Reiatsu coming from his previous target.

Let the sun shine in?

Bathing in this light won’t just get you burnt

Neo Ichigo’s Cero blasts through the dome, distracting everyone in the dome from what they were doing. Renji is surprised by this sudden burst of light, as Chad notes that it came from above the dome. Yammy on the other hand looks a bit dazed, while Rukia senses Ichigo’s reiatsu from the blast. Whether this will cause the group to split up once more to see what is happening up the dome remains the question, though I’m hoping for Chad to stay behind to beat Yammy while Rukia and Renji go up to the top -they are the only ones who can use Shunpo to get up there.

Hidden in the darkness

Would you have believed this a few months ago?

As the scene shifts from Rukia and the others to the top of the dome, we get this picture. This picture is a good reminder of who is supposed to be underneath the monstrous appearance of Neo Ichigo. The Neo Ichigo side seems devoid of any form of emotion -even for a mask- as it almost seems to be waiting for something to respond to, unlike the previous times where Shirosaki took over where there was still a spark in the eyes. The other side is our protagonist Ichigo, who has a look of determination as if he is ready to take on anything that is thrown at him. So somewhere, hidden within Neo Ichigo, we have Ichigo with the determination to do anything that is necessary to reach his goals. And this is emphasized once more in this chapter as it progresses.

Cero, the only way to fry

It may take a few years to successfully cook using Ceros…

The scene shifts to the top of the tower, where Orihime protects herself and Ishida by using the Santen Kenshun. The small nuke then fades away as Ishida looks at the cause of the blast. Neo Ichigo, who is holding Ulquiorra by his remaining wing, is standing above the hole he created with his Cero without any reaction. Strangely, I think that Ulquiorra got off pretty well with his torso, head, and right arm remaining intact. This would mean that Ulquiorra can regenerate himself, given that most of his internal organs are still intact. This is also something that is a bit annoying, like other lethal blasts in many other stories, where blasts that should destroy starting with the torso, only result in the loss of limbs. But seeming as how I wasn’t too happy with Ulquiorra being defeated in this manner last week, I’ll let it slide this time.
Ishida then tries to talk to Ichigo, with mixed feelings on the result of this battle, only to see how Neo Ichigo throws Ulquiorra away and draws Zangetsu to do more damage. Angered by this development, Ishida grabs a hold of Neo Ichigo’s arm and tells him it’s enough. Neo Ichigo stops his action, seemingly to contemplate on what Ishida is saying. Ishida then once more tells Ichigo -he is trying to get in touch with Ichigo, rather than Neo Ichigo- how they work with their opponents, saying that carving up corpses shouldn’t be done -can’t disagree with him now can we.
After Ishida said that, Neo Ichigo’s arm starts to move once more with the intent to stab through Ulquiorra’s neck. Ishida yells at Neo Ichigo, asking if he heard him or not, telling him to stop in order to remain human. Neo Ichigo doesn’t stop at first, only for Ishida to scream out Ichigo’s name, which prevents Neo Ichigo from stabbing Ulquiorra, choosing another target instead.

Loose cannon

Yammy got beaten to the punch, with a stab

Neo Ichigo jousts Zangetsu through Ishida, sending him flying into a pile of rubble. Orihime cries out in despair, only to hear the one who is probably suffering most due to these developments. A chant is heard coming from Neo Ichigo, saying that he’ll protect Orihime. Orihime then realizes that she is the cause for Neo Ichigo’s appearance in this fight, and all that had happened since. Orihime then starts to think on why she called for Ichigo’s help, while she did her best to train in order to stop being a burden to him and to protect Ichigo -something we’ve all been wondering for quite some time.
While I’m curious as to why Orihime wanted to be helped by Ichigo, rather than trying to defend herself, I’m even more curious about what she thinks that she could have done to defend herself and Ichigo. But before she can get to the point of self realization, she sees that Neo Ichigo has stepped towards Ishida to charge a Cero, as he has now identified Ishida as an enemy as well. As Orihime yells at Neo Ichigo to stop -which could work in theory because saving her seems to be his drive- the only one with the power to save Ishida and to answer Orihime’s questions about herself shows up.

The Batman
http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/oo70/Underscore_07/352-06.png
Out of the darkness appears the dark knight to protect the innocent…huh?

And none other than Ulquiorra steps up to protect Ishida from being blown away by Neo Ichigo’s Cero. Having survived the point blank Cero -Ceros are useless at point blank range aren’t they?-, he used a Lanza del Relampago to cut off one of Neo Ichigo’s horns, causing an instability in the forming of the Cero, resulting in an explosion.
This certainly came as a surprise to Orihime, as could be seen after we saw Ulquiorra, though it may have been more surprising that Ulquiorra actually acted before Neo Ichigo fired the Cero to kill the young Quincy. It almost seemed as if Ulquiorra was trying to save the young Quincy from a certain death.
Though there is probably a simple explanation for Ulquiorra to save Ishida. After all, he’s The Batma… -Yeah, lame I know. The reason why Ulquiorra save Ishida is probably that he didn’t want to be indebted to Ishida, who did save his life by stopping Neo Ichigo. Though it may also be caused by some form of brain damage causing his cold-heartedness to turn into good heartedness… Fine, I’ll admit it; I don’t know why he bothered to save Ishida from Neo Ichigo instead of regenerating his limbs first. The only other reason I can think of is that Ulquiorra, who had already given up on his live, saw no reason to continue the fight with Neo Ichigo and decided that he wanted to be killed anyway. So by interrupting the kill Neo Ichigo was about to make, this murderous intent would be aimed at Ulquiorra once more. Another option that I will mention, for the fans of the theory, is that Ulquiorra did it for Orihime. As Orihime would be heartbroken by Ichigo killing Ishida, or could attempt to get in the way of the Cero to protect Ishida, Ulquiorra prevents this from happening by stopping the Cero.
But we’ll probably find out the real motives for Ulquiorra’s actions in next week’s chapter. So with the second final blow in two chapters’ time, we are left to wonder what may happen next week…

Overview

A lot happened in this chapter. Rukia had beaten Rudobone as Yammy takes the finishing blow after having landed at the bottom of the tower. Yammy turns out to be similar to the incredible Hulk, as he seems to grow with rage hurting both friend and foe -though strangely only foes in his rage-, while we may be given the promise of Chad and Yammy fighting it out. Neo Ichigo turns out to be the cause for Ishida’s regrets - for now-, as he tried to prevent Ichigo from becoming a Hollow by saving Ulquiorra. Orihime once more realizes that she should have more resolve and comes to the realization that (Neo) Ichigo did all this just to help her. And to top things off, Ulquiorra saves Ishida from a rampaging Neo Ichigo, after surviving a point blank Cero. So with all these developments in one chapter, with plenty of surprises, I’m really satisfied by this chapter. I regret not having more time to look into it than I have today, but I’ll give a short prediction before wrapping this up.

Predictions

So what do I see happening next week… Well, Ulquiorra may just regenerate his limbs once more to explain why he saved Ishida. Neo Ichigo will probably focus on fighting Ulquiorra again, though he may have lost the ability to fire off Ceros for the time being. Orihime will heal Ishida -after Neo Ichigo summons Zangetsu from his torso to fight Ulquiorra- and think of a way to save Ichigo from himself. Rukia and/or Renji will decide to go up the dome to see what is happening, as Chad decides to fight Yammy by using his newly acquired powers -improved right arm and new left arm.

That’s it for this week’s review. I probably won’t be able to reply to your posts until this Wednesday, but I’ll see if I can find the time to do so nonetheless. I hope you guys enjoyed this review and be sure to let me know what your thoughts are on this chapter and/or review. See you again next week!

hmm... 1st off nice review :)

okay now for why i think neo ichigo was right to try to kill ulliquora, well the dude can regenerate himself (at a quick pace) so killing him is the only way to stop him, ishida was stoooooooopid !

also a reason why ulliquora cut of neo ichigo's horn was probably cause he knew that even regenerated he wouldn't have a chance against neo ichigo as he (neo) was, so uliq took his only chance to attack his strongest weapon, while he had the chance. makes sense to me , but then again i guess i am a little less of a fanboy :-s
[hr]
side question , who thinks that kubo has the balls to actually kill ishida off, and that ishida was regretting from beyond the grave, esp since he was never gonna get orihime to love him anyway :P

nice review as always score ;) you answered one of my questions: what has happened in the last 2 pages >D
So Uli attacking Neo Ichigo could make sense now, I like Saifi's theory that he (Uli) saw his only chance to hit Neo Ichigo and that it has nothing to do with protecting Ishida.

Let's see... Uli survived a Cero from this range, that's somewhat impossible but my, it's ok for me :eyeroll (I'm somehow glad that Uli survived the attack lol)
Hopefully there will be a inner conversation soon, atm there's no-one in Las Noches who can beat Neo Ichigo :darn

Hmm, what I think that really matters are the following 2 questions, nice review btw underscore^^, What will be Yammy's resurrección? and how fast will he get owned? HA!, I rhymed^^. I'm honestly surprised that at the time when Uryu and Orihime were together, SHE DIDN'T RESTORE HIS FRIGGIN ARM! I guess until Orihime leanrs that killing in a battle is close to inevitable and gets over her loathing of it, she will always be a burden to the team. I mean for crying out loud she's the most underdeveloped character of the gang. R.I.P. Rudobon, I bet you had your brain scrambled by Yammy, even though your head's a skeleton and it doesn't have a brain, YOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO! SKULL JOKE!, yeah sorry about that^^;;.

Well Ulquiorra isn't dead yet...In the beginning of the fight Ulquiorra told ichigo that if he wanted to fight another opponent he would have to defeat him first. Maybe he's just standing by his principles.

Great review, The Underscore. Personally, I believe Ulq "saved" Ishida because Neo-Ichigo was distracted. Since he was distracted this was his only chance to do some damage to him, Ishida being the distraction.

Whew, finally I have some time to reply to these posts. I'm still not sure if I'll be writing a review this week. But I think I will write one unless the worst case scenario happens this week, which I doubt will/hope won't happen.

Thanks,
I agree, Ulquiorra's regeneration ability requires him to be killed before his opponent can be sure of a true victory. The thing is that Ulquiorra already admitted defeat, which is usually enough for Ichigo to stop a fight. And Ichigo's humanity was on the line in this matter, which would mean that Ichigo would have lost with Ulquiorra's death -if it was at the hands of Neo Ichigo.
As for Ulquiorra's attack on Neo Ichigo at the end, I did think it would be something Ulquiorra would try to take advantage of at first. I left this out here because I don't think Ulquiorra has the intention to fight Ichigo anymore since the end of the previous chapter. It would be useless to fight someone who can stop his most powerful attack with one hand, and I don't think Ulquiorra would be someone to continue a fight after admitting defeat.
And I don't think that Kubo has the balls to kill off Ishida... Or rather he could have the balls to do so, but that would be a completely meaningless death to a character which has such great interactions with others in the story. And I tend to believe that Ishida has more of a thing for Mayuri's daughter (Nemu) than Orihime, though that's open for discussion.

Thanks, I'm glad I was able to clear up some things for you.
I really doubt that Ulquiorra intended to continue his fight with Neo Ichigo, like I said in my reply to saifi, though I admit that saving Ishida is a bit of a weak motive to attack Neo Ichigo. But we'll probably get Ulquiorra's motives this week.
And the fact that Ulquiorra was able to survive a Cero of that magnitude from that range just shows that Cero's are useless at point blank range. Unless Ulquiorra used enough power to increase his Hierro to protect his brain and internal organs, though I doubt he would do that seeming as how he already gave up on living.
I do hope that there will be an inner conversation, though I think Orihime will be the one to clean up this mess.

Well, these are fair questions I suppose. My guesses would then be an Incredible Hulk meets King Kong type of release for now -looking at the chaos he created in this chapter it could fit- and about a 4 chapter long fight with Chad -I hope, because I really want to see a good fight from Chad again.
I too was somewhat amazed by the fact that Ishida's arm wasn't restored yet, though it would be pretty hard to focus on healing someone while defending yourself from several explosions -Orihime should have learned to multitask :p.
I actually don't think that Orihime has to let go of her desire of not letting anyone die. Even though it is something that usually can't be avoided in these types of battles, Orihime does have the abilities that are required to prevent it from happening. She only lacks the resolve to actually make her wish of not letting anyone die happen.
Yohohoho, his skull probably didn't have a brain if he's dumb enough to explain his abilities to that extend to someone like Rukia. Even if he did have a brain in that skull, I think that Yammy helped him to get rid of (most of) it.

Well Ulquiorra isn't dead yet...In the beginning of the fight Ulquiorra told ichigo that if he wanted to fight another opponent he would have to defeat him first. Maybe he's just standing by his principles.

Ulquiorra will at least live to see one more chapter, if not more, given that he has enough energy left to regenerate himself. But seeming as how he admitted his defeat, I doubt he will desire to continue the fight.

It would be a great time to attack Neo Ichigo while he's charging a Cero. So if Ulquiorra does decide to continue his battle, I think he has taken a great opportunity. But Ulquiorra's motives and decisions will be made clear in the upcoming chapter I suppose.
