View Full Version : Soundtrack What are your favorite audio touches in the anime that can't be conveyed clearly or at all in the manga?

I'll explain by listing some of my own.

-The droning, echoing, saxophone-esque sound effect that plays when Mayuri goes bankai. It audially personifies his deranged mind and personality perfectly, while also portraying his twisted murderous intent and the ominous scene in that moment very well. It's just one of those sound effects they didn't have to do, but that gave this perfect artistic personification to Mayuri, his bankai, and the scene in general.

-The sonido sound effect. A creative sound that does a good job of giving the viewer the impression that sonido might be different from shunpo. As we now know that to be true, the sound itself makes me imagine sonido being akin to the garganta somehow. Perhaps a sort of mini garganta that allows the user to go out of and back into the dimension quickly from one point to another. I find it pretty cool that the sound alone is able to give me a certain impression of sonido that I'd probably never think of if I just read the manga.

-The garganta sound effect. Very effectively portrays dimensional fabric being torn apart.

-The Visored voice overlay sound effect (Ichigo's especially). Portrays both Shirosaki's insanity and the perturbed hollow aura of Ichigo with his mask on very satisfactorily.

-Ikkaku's seiyuu does an absolutely fantastic job of acting out his personality. Almost all of the Japanese voice-actors do a great job at bringing their characters' personalities to life (and I don't even know Japanese), but Ikkaku's always stands out in my mind as nailed down perfectly. In particular, the way he goes into a high-pitched shout that sounds tough at the same time when he's angry/enthusiastic/etc. in a fight.

So they can be anything, really. They can be sound effects, voice-acting, music, or whatever, and they can be the sound in general or a particular use of it in one scene of the anime (so for music, it can be the song in general, or it can be how the song was used for one scene specifically). The anime is full of stylish and artistic audio touches that elaborate on many things in the manga exceptionally well, and I'm curious as to which ones you guys favor most.

That definitely is an interesting sound effect. I also like the cero sound effect.

I loooove that effect. And it's the same voice actor, too, which makes it even better because they sound completely different; like two completely different personalities/people.

In the English dub, you can still hear the similarities between Ichigo and Visored Ichigo's voices. The effect in entirely different.

Bleach also has some cool background music. I have a favorite in particular, called "on the precipice of defeat".

The guitar at the beginning reminds me of a hollow, and it's beautifully creepy.

There's also this, called Escalon.

I <3 Mayuri's voice actor. His voice reminds me of Orochimaru's voice, in that they both have a scratchy, old, creepy sound. Mayuri's fits his personality perfectly.

Sonido is definitely a cool sound.

and i love the cero charge-up sound. i can imitate it pretty well myself with a sort-of whistle. :p

music and voices are of course important.
specifically, some characters voices in the anime just fit them so perfectly that it's almost realistic.
as JP mentioned, Ikkaku.
Grimmjow.
and as much as i completely prefer the japanese version of the anime, i must say that Kenpachi's english voice acting suits him amazingly. i'm not sure of the voice actor's name, but i know he also does Jiraiya in Naruto's english dub.

man, when i heard that playing when shinji cut into ichigo's and grimmjow's fight and pulled out the mask. i was like sickkkkk.

i gotta say, all the voice actors mostly do a good job when portraying the character. like the guy who does gin's voice, it's just silly and not serious. i could keep going but that'd be dumb sayin what you all already know.

i also like the music, on a funny standpoint, whenever yammy is firing bala after bala at urahara and then urahara comes up from behind. that music kills me.

That song totally sums up the SS arc. Dark, creepy, depressing. Bleach should be more like that again.

So anyways, Ulquiorras voice actor should be mentioned too, for his really fitting, cold, emotionless voice.

In my opinion, the older BGM is much better than the newer BGM. Really classic in terms of the anime itself.

- the music during noitra's death. i would say that noi's death in the anime is what really turned my opinion around for him, and the music definetly helped, cuz it conveyed emotion that black and white art cant do on its own

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqNOrvPOA8Q
- gotta luv the epic music as well. its a little overused (like every time someone has a dramatic powerup) but its still rocks

also, the op mentioned the music of mayuri's bankai, id like to add the baby cry that you hear when you see the full release...hehehe, baby's crying

The Seiyuus for both Ichimaru and Grimmjow are exceptional. I love the way Ichimaru's is so patronizing and portrays the character well, and Grimmjow's awesome, random shouting was phenomenal.

I love the sound overlays for Shuuhei's Kazeshini. The way the sound echoes out no matter what sound it may be, like it's being carried on the wind.

The background music "FIESTA DE GUERRA."

If I can come up with any more, I'll post later.

Definately the Cero charge-up and the combination of the sound/visual effect when someone's reiatsu goes up. I love the shaky, grainy look it gives, especially when it's coupled with the noise and the reaction from those around it.

One of the coolest moments in the anime for me was when Hiyori lost control and slashed Shinji during the pendulum arc. Her roar and the slow-mo reactions of everyone around, combined with the reiatsu effect when it happened just looked amazing in my opinion.

I also like the cero sound effect.

Oh yeah. I purposely didn't mention all my favorite effects, but I'd have listed that one as well if I had thought of it.

I <3 Mayuri's voice actor. His voice reminds me of Orochimaru's voice, in that they both have a scratchy, old, creepy sound. Mayuri's fits his personality perfectly.

Yeah, Mayuri's is also great. I only mentioned Ikkaku because I find him to be the most in character of them all; if I listed all the ones that I thought did a great job and why, that'd be too drawn out.

and as much as i completely prefer the japanese version of the anime, i must say that Kenpachi's english voice acting suits him amazingly.

I agree, I think his voice is actually more fitting for Kenpachi than even the Japanese voice actor's is, but he's a little inconsistent on the delivery, I find. Too many times he'll say a line a little awkwardly or stress his voice in a manner that kind of ruins it. If he were better at nailing the actual acting part of the voice, he'd be fantastic. His voice is such a perfect match that when he does pull lines off just right it's absolutely scintillating (I always remember his "my morning exercises are way more intense than this" line, or however it goes).

So anyways, Ulquiorras voice actor should be mentioned too, for his really fitting, cold, emotionless voice.

The Seiyuus for both Ichimaru and Grimmjow are exceptional. I love the way Ichimaru's is so patronizing and portrays the character well, and Grimmjow's awesome, random shouting was phenomenal.

Agreed, all some of the top-tier actors in the show (Ulquiorra especially, in my opinion).

I love the sound overlays for Shuuhei's Kazeshini. The way the sound echoes out no matter what sound it may be, like it's being carried on the wind.

Hm, I never noticed any overlays for that, despite having watched the episode... four or five times already ('cause it's that damn good). I just remember the sound effects for it flipping through the air and the chain being tossed around. I'll have to check it out again.

i also like this. but i have to say it totally goes hand in hand with the manga. remember when in the turn back the pendulum arc shinji talks about this new thing called jazz music? and the escalon theme also features some jazz vibes i think.

I love:
Sonido sound effect, definitely. It's kickass.
The Gargantua sound always has me shivering.
I especially love Nnoitra's voice; I think he really... I dunno, I just think he sounds really... Nnoitra-ish.
The sad music, when used appropriately - as opposed to used stupidly in LURI-CHAN filler (rebellious muttering ensues), in some cases can bring me to tears :p

Awww....totally agreed with Tweed's choices. These songs are always played at those real EMOOO scenes when the charactes are feeling down. So touching.. *sob sob* definetely not what i can get from reading the manga.

There's also this particular background music where there's a chorus singing, not sure what's the name and whether is it in the OST 3 (since i'm still downloading), but I think that BG song definetely builds up when the characters clash. Anyone has any idea what I'm talking about?

Yessh!!!! Thanks for finding this song. The Invasion song ... I think it appeared when there's this preview of upcoming fight between Ichigo & Ulquorra. There are other instances, but I can't remember which scenes now >.>

Anyway, I checked out the DDR OST and it seems that a few songs from there ended up in the anime as well. Hmm, almost miss out this album. :amuse

I think a great deal of the audio in Bleach (music, sound-effects and voice-acting) is very well done, although I didn't really take note of it until the introduction of the Arrancar.

But as far as favourite music goes:

- Number One (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L27JrjVsX4M). Probably a cliché choice, but this was the first bit of music in Bleach that really stood out to me. The guitar, the lyrics, the singing... It's just such an energetic piece of music, whenever I hear that guitar at the start come on during a fight, I just can't help but smile. I felt it was particularly well used when Ichigo finally learned Zangetsu's name, when he stopped the vice-captains and Byakuya from chasing Renji and Rukia and when he tried to attack Aizen (the sudden cut-off when Aizen stopped Ichigo's Bankai with one finger was perfect). I like the new violin remix aswell.

- Treachery (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BsftDuGkM4). While it was just good in the second Bleach movie, this piece in particular gave off such an epic feel in the anime, I loved it. It made the scene of Nnoitra's Resurreccion particularly powerful.

- Invasion. Already mentioned enough in this thread.

- All the Spanish music, particularly Nube Negra (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQggebVt5V4). The first clip shown in that vid in particular really made me take note of the whole Spanish theme that the Hollows have going for them. That kind of 'style' for a particular group is something I haven't noticed in many anime. The music gives a very distinct flavour to the Arrancar. I also like No Regressar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qyo5cMvS4dE), very similar to Nube Negra, but it gives off a cool, stylish but darker atmosphere and it was used well in the scene when Ulquiorra confronts Ichigo for the first time in Hueco Mundo. The combination of the music and Ulquiorra walking down the stairs just seemed very menacing to me.

For me two things stand out very clearly as audio additions to Bleach that can be found no where else;

1) Cero. It sounds like it comes from another world. When Shinji blasted GJ with that masked Cero, man, the sound made it seem so brutal. FFFFZZZEWWWWWW !!!! :s

2) The piano song that plays in some of the most dramatic moments. While I can't name it off the top of my head I'm sure many of you know which one it is. I'll browse this post an update for specifics. UD: Will of the Heart - the slow single note part really gets at me...

Those 2 things, to me, are prime examples of why the manga is like an amazing blueprint for the anime, even tho I read the manga each week, I love waiting for my favorite new part to come out. When Kenpachi and Nnoitra fought in the manga, the first thing in my mind was "This is gonna be awesome in the anime!" and the awesome sounds are a big part of why I still feel that way after all the fillers and animation quality randomness.

1. The OST of course. Be it guitar driven, orchestral, atmospheric or hispanic, either way its great. I especially like how well the mandolin music fits with the Arrancar theme and how it perfectly suits the desert that is Hueco Mundo. This one especially:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_xOzbMcFWQ

I also like a specific, atmospheric track, the one that played when Rukia met Aaronirro. I just love the chimes!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeI427s2jY8

2. Speaking of Aaronirro, I love his dual-voice effect, especially how it varies from very high-pitched to very deep. I love the scene where he first meets Rukia (by suddenly appearing behind her) and the words he says: "Hoshiete... kageyoka?"

3. The cero, sonido and garganta sound effects, especially the latter. I also dig the sound Kazeshini makes.

4. Mayuri's voice. I love his VA's voice ever since I heard him voice Frieza. Nnoitra's voice is also pretty awesome. I especially like the way he shouts "Santa Teresa!".

Great VAs:

Kurotsuchi Mayuri: Just listen to the first time he releases Ashizogi Jizou against Ishida. It's like an ugly, dirty old man raping your ear. It sounds positively awful. (In a good way, not a bad-performance way).

Kuchiki Byakuya: Prideful, arrogant, and condescending. You can literally feel the ego in his voice.

Madarame Ikkaku: Everything said above. I especially loved the "BANKAI!!" shout against Edorad.

Zaraki Kenpachi: If nothing else, his maniacal laugh is just God awesome. This VA also did Don Krieg in One Piece, and was a good fit there too.

Kyouraku Shunsui: Surprised that no one mentioned him before.

Aaroniero Arruruerie (sp?): Love the dual voice effect. One is really deep and soothing, the other higher pitched, and actually kinda pretty or cute. Like the guy above, the scene he first appears in behind Rukia is awesome.

-Honorable mention- Dordonii Alessandro Del Socacchio: I don't know, I just like this guy. His voice is good, but I think I like him mostly because Giralda has a wind-based power, and I've always particularly liked those.

SFX:

Cero and Bala: I must say, Bala's almost anti-climactic "Fwump" sound when it hits is quite a nice contrast to the normal explosion sound that happens with stuff like that. Same for the effect of a Cero firing.

Music:

HOLLOWED: Drums pounding with a deep bass line, this song is just made for awesome, high tension scenes. This is the one song that I would label as "epic".

Senna: Played in the first movie when Kenpachi wasted that Dark One at the end, which is probably one of the best scenes of pwnage I've ever seen. Not just in Bleach, but ever.

Number One: Can you have a better song for when the protagonist is getting ready to pwn the enemy? I don't think so. And having it stop dead when Aizen blocked Ichigo's swing with one finger was one of those things that makes your heart almost skip a beat.

I love the noise of Urahara's Benihime Cero like attack and the Bara attack that we see Yammy use.

But all in all the music, voices etc. Are so good in Bleach. I love the music when and after Ichigo uses his Bankai and the music that makes his final fight with Grimmjow so epic, I could really go on but, this is the only anime that I watch my favorite episodes of over and over again and never get bored of them.

Gotta have to add in the latest Ichigonator cero sfx

Katen Kyokotsu (milf one) music when she appears .. in the Zampaktou arc (the one with the French Harmonium, well it does sound like " de la music francaise!")

Bleach - on Precipice of defeat
And yeah ...ICHIGONATOR ""i teared this b!tch's arm scream "" that was epic
i think it was episode 271

I love the Flash Step sound, and imo ''tmp'' doesn't convey the footstep sfx in the same manner. Something about it just sounds so cool to me.

EDIT: In general, I loved the sound in the Ichigonator fight too. It was suitably bleak for the subject matter. If his actions earned him the name ichigonator, then the soundtrack to the fight definitely cements it.

- The "baby crying" effect from Mayuri Kurotsuchi's Bankai- Konjiki Ashisogi Jizou.

I didn't want to post here, because I basically like stuff that have been mentioned already - shunpo sound, cero sound, stuff like that.

But I just watched the little face off Urahara and Tesai had with Aizen in TBTP, and the sound of Tessai's Hiryugekizokushintenraiho (xD) is freagin awesome. You can hear the space ripping apart from the force. You can just feel if that thing were to hit you... Haha, really cool, IMO.

Also, the way sound stops and Aizen says "Danku". It is pure awesome, it just gives me the creeps.

Here's a short clip of it all. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1nMCf1AX-A&feature=related)

Just listen to it. I went around saying "Danku" like that for the rest of the day xD.

As for sound effects, cero's the best as far as I'm concerned
