Bleach Volume Cover Thread - [Newest: Vol 58]

That cover is definitely gonna shift a few volumes but like most have said it's very unexpected to have Rangiku on the cover. Gin or Isshin were the likely choices for me. Outside choice woulda been Urahara or Aizen but even then I hadn't even considered her :s

more girls in Japan are reading manga than boys, so go figure. plus, Kubo has to keep Bleach up in sales and this is a perfect opportunity to do so, i guess. i mean, Vol. 34 had Nel on it and she was only in the first chapter of that.

the cover is nice though and at least, another VC got to showcase the cover. could've been "Tetsuzaemon" or "Omaeda".

Why Rangiku, you ask? Well, let's see. All of the other characters active, except for Isshin, have been selected as the characters on volume covers.

My guess is that Kubo is saving Isshin up for the next volume.

So even though Rangiku has a very small part in the chapters of this volume, she is still the only active character not adapted into a volume.

The character is stressed and there is a background.There is more space than you think.Even though i don't think Kubo is capable of a cover like that,it does not mean that he can't add a background to make it look better.He could also do it with a bg and sometimes without a bg,just like Kishimoto.Also he does not always have to draw the characters this big.Remember the old covers?

The Kira cover is actually one of the lamest covers Kubo did, IMHO. Only Rukia and Ishida cover in the beginning were worse, because of the kinda undefined artwork..

As for the Naruto covers.. I don't know, I don't like them as much as the Bleach covers. It might be that the poses are too random, or the combination of characters.. And Sasuke x Naruto over and over again..

Because it distracts the attention to the character I'd say. Especially on the one with Shinji and Gin... and Renji..
You might be right that it is no biggie to draw a subtile background and he even might thought of it.. as can be seen on the pages you've linked, but still it seems he doesn't want to change his line and I approve of that. It would be rather weird to see if there's something else than a puristic portrait on the next volume, for me that is.

Kinda disapointing as the volume was climax or anti climax I would put it of the FKT arc. Anoying how kubo puts such poorly made and developed characters and attempts to pull off some 'shakespeare' moment off with them... giving the impression, yeah they had some really deep and meaningful realationship don't you remember that 1 moment before, when Gin said it was a shame she didn't get sucked up in that teleport with him ><

I like it for the same reasons... but also because it's Gin. :p I'm a bit disappointed, though, that Isshin didn't get a cover here, but I'm sure that he'll have plenty of chances coming up. Like Aikidoka said, if we do get an Isshin gaiden, that would be a perfect time for a cover.

Gin getting a new cover should be no surprise, not too many other characters (except for Aizen himself, whom Kubo is saving for the later volumes) have been shown doing a lot in these chapters.

"End of the Chrysalis Age" is to reference how Aizen (who was in his Hougyoku-induced cocoon state) broke free after sustaining a lot of injuries and as a result gained more power. It was a subtitle for one of those earlier Deicide chapters, not too sure about the number.

Isshin not getting a cover yet is surprising yet intriguing. It makes me wonder if Kubo is truly planning to have a gaiden backstory based on the character in the future.

So the next volume, 48 with probably be titled 'transcendent god rock' and 49 will be 'the end' since those are the other sub names given to deicide chapters. Now the 'the end' chapter(that people complained about, since it wasn't the actual end of the deicide chapters) makes perfect sense.

well this new story arc reminds me of when they first introduced the Vaizards and Shinji had approached Ichigo in the same manner and ended up on the cover. besides, nothing really has changed with Ichigo (powers being gone and all) and the new guy is main objective right now in the past few chapters, so i just think the Kinju guy or whatever, will be gracing the cover of Vol. 49.

I'm disappointed that neither Tensa Zangetsu or Hollow Ichigo and Tensa Zangetsu combined was on either of the covers for volume 47 or 48, and, though I hope otherwise, it isn't likely they'll be on the cover of volume 49 either. It'll probably be that Ginjou Kuugo guy.

I'm pretty sure it's the first cover with Kubo's name romanized. The transparent Bleach logo is also a new thing, cover-wise.

They could have found some other way to show the white text other than those boxes. Perhaps not making the text white in the first place? The text could have been red to match the Bleach logo.

I like the dark, heavy shadows. You see them in the cover with Yamamoto, too. Not sure why Ichigo is wearing a winter coat, but I don't mind too much, either.

i love the new cover its a little different then the ones before but it still keeps with the one person per volume cover, maybe we will get ginjou next or maybe the character will appear in the same order as the beginning volumes and ginjou will come after that, i think hes a character here to stay.

I think Kubo used the wrong "loathe" though. He used "loth" which means "unwilling", instead of the actual "loathe" which means "to hate".

I like the actual picture though. Riruka looks a bit more....busty.

This is my favourite cover in a while. For once Kubo's non-existent backgrounds should be hailed. It looks especially good with the pink. The recent pattern of blank background contrasting with shadowy characters is working for him. They look more realistic like that. His normal colour art is flat, even if pretty. But Riruka and her two best friends are popping off that page.

For some reason, the imagevenue thumbnail for volume 8 isn't working for some reason even though the actual image is still there. I found an imageshack version of this scan and replaced the thumbnail. If you click the link though, it still goes to the imagevenue scan which is larger.

I can see the thumbnails for volumes 26 and 35. What is wrong with those covers?

Fixed the problems:

8 - This thumbnail is just meant to be a placeholder until I can find one that matches the size of the others. Something really strange is going on with imagevenue.com because some thumbnails are still working while the actual image doesn't and some images work without working thumbnails. For this cover, the image is working but not the thumbnail; thus, I put in the temporary thumbnail that you see while keeping the image link the same. Working on resizing the image now.

26 - That one was the opposite with a working thumbnail and missing actual image. Thus, I found another version and linked that for the larger image.

35 - That one is just fine with no weirdness. :D

Edit: Everything should be good now! Let me know if you notice any other things to correct. :vbunny

It's not gonna be changed, it's been like this since volume one and this is what makes the volume so unique. A plain character with no other distractions like backgrounds or smaller characters around or whatsoever.

The new covers, I am talking about the semi transparent boxes around the texts, were already a huge change for Kubo Tite, however, the core idea is still remaining so be sure it won't change until the very end.

I like these covers I'd say even more than majority of e.g. Naruto, as the other ones are only chaos for me. I like the quieter ones, like the one from MinaKushi Gaiden, where the three (two) of them only stand.

Looking at them, Rukia's got only one cover (Volume 2, ten years ago) as a female LEAD, where some arrancar, Inoue, Shinji, Gin, a lot of them, have two.
Come on, and not even this one was Rukia. I'd like to see how would he draw her, and I hope that she'll appear next. but my bet is that it'll be Sushi, or Jackie :|

Rukia hasn't done much since the beginning, the only spot for a second cover I could see for her was when she was about to get lynched, but back then so many things happend and so many gorgeous characters were introduced that there simply was no place for her. Since then she has only been a minor character whose only success was beating Aaroniero.

Okay, but in both Japanese AND English it says "Vorarlberna". There's not really any room for debate here as there's no difference in the pronunciation of the Katakana or the Romanization. Kubo wrote it as "Vorarlberna" in both languages, so that's what it must be. I'm not sure what Evil3Eye was even talking about honestly.

the poem could be a reference or metaphor to "spiritual" strength that cannot be broken, no matter how great the odds may be against an individual. it almost appeared that way with Ichigo, towards the concluding battle with Ginjou and the Fullbringers.

Well, I don't think Yamamoto for this cover would be a good choice. If I were Kubo, I would want to draw Yamamoto in bankai, or something similar, for the cover. And it would be spoiling for those who only read tankobons, they would know beforehand that CC goes bankai, and how does it look like... I think there's a fair chance that the one AFTER Byakuya will be Yamamoto, as the fight wraps up in chapter 511, and that will be Vol 58. Maybe, maybe not.

I don't, however, agree at all with your opinion that Byakuya is in any way a weak captain. First off, He has only been defeated by Ichigo (main character) and As Nodt, who could have wiped out several of the other captains at once (Soi Fon, who usually gets her butt kicked or has 'Lady Yoruichi' save her skin or Komamura, who loses nearly every fight he's in.). Byakuya is often sent out ahead with Kenpachi (the 'badass advance crew') and he always seems to get opponents with some nasty abilities (Zommari with his ability to possess what his eyes see and Tsukishima, who can insert himself in his opponent's past to gain the upper hand). He was one of the captains that Aizen locked into HM so his strength would be stolen from the group defending KT. And Kubo wouldn't have had a weak captain fall to As Nodt. He wanted to use a strong captain with an impressive bankai to show a powerful captain losing to his own technique. Any other captain facing As Nodt and having lost their bankai (as four captains did, but the other three drew lesser opponents, some not even important enough to be named) and facing it down with only a shikai would have been in trouble. Of course Byakuya looked bad in that fight. But he didn't lose to As Nodt's power. He was putting up a fight until hit at least twice with his own bankai. And until such time as it's discovered how to counter those medallions, I think any other captain will not be able to defeat As Nodt alone (I'm not convinced As Nodt is dead. If that other quincy with the mohawk could survive the CC's attack, so can As Nodt.) If Byakuya is weak, then some of the other captains are pathetic.

Byakuya deserves the cover. It suits this part of the story and it reflects the destruction of the Gotei and the noble houses...the two forces that protect and serve the Spirit King. I'm sure the CC will get the next cover anyway. And there's plenty of time to get a RG cover in there too. There's room enough for everyone, and the art on this cover is impressive!

Secondly, Kenpachi and Byakuya tangled in HM while fighting Yammy and neither dominated the other. Did you perhaps miss the part where Zaraki said that the fight with Yammy was boring? So, what is hinted is that it wasn't Yammy who beat the two until they were barely on their feet. The subtle hint there was that they fought each other. How did you miss that?

Oh, and did I mention...Zaraki is ALWAYS getting bloody. Byakuya has been bloodied lately because the opponents have been getting more powerful. That's why Kubo has him taking more damage. And really? I wasn't as impressed when winning was too easy for him. He's much more fun to watch when he has to think on his feet and struggle.

You're being pretty unreasonable. You can't say Byakuya should be more like Kenpachi when Kenpachi ALWAYS wins his battles covered in his own blood. Byakuya tends to suffer less injuries. Sure he took damage against Tsukishima and Zommari, but they had some of the haxest abilities in the whole manga. Kenpachi has only fought straight combat opponents, unlike Byakuya who tends to get the hax ones, and still wins.

It's also completely irrelevant that Kenpachi beat that clone of himself. As Nodt had his own powers plus Byakuya's Bankai. Byakuya had only his shikai, he couldn't use his full strength, Kenpachi could, and if you read the fight what truly did him in was As Nodt's fear inducing arrow. Byakuya also quickly removed the luchador from battle, so I'm pretty sure Byakuya, once again, drew an unlucky straw with As Nodt. The reason VR made note of Kenpachi is probably because they have no device to prevent him from using full power, not he's "Kenpachi and iz the strongest shinigamiz evar."

Also, no, Renji absolutely did not take it better than Byakuya. Um, Byakuya was covered in so many petals that all we could see of him was a hand sticking out, and he was getting repeatedly driven into the wall. Byakuya didn't even compress his petals into a wave like As Nodt did, he just spread them out and cut Renji. It's Byakuya's most basic attack pretty much, in shikai and Bankai. Gin didn't look strong in TBP....he didn't look weak either. He didn't do anything. :-_- They were both prodigies, thats it. I don't know who would win in a battle between the two of them, it'd be a very interesting fight though. Probably won't ever happen.

I'm of the opinion Kenpachi and Byakuya are equal. I seriously doubt Kubo would end a battle between them in anything but a draw.

You're being pretty unreasonable. You can't say Byakuya should be more like Kenpachi when Kenpachi ALWAYS wins his battles covered in his own blood. Byakuya tends to suffer less injuries. Sure he took damage against Tsukishima and Zommari, but they had some of the haxest abilities in the whole manga. Kenpachi has only fought straight combat opponents, unlike Byakuya who tends to get the hax ones, and still wins.

It's also completely irrelevant that Kenpachi beat that clone of himself. As Nodt had his own powers plus Byakuya's Bankai. Byakuya had only his shikai, he couldn't use his full strength, Kenpachi could, and if you read the fight what truly did him in was As Nodt's fear inducing arrow. Byakuya also quickly removed the luchador from battle, so I'm pretty sure Byakuya, once again, drew an unlucky straw with As Nodt. The reason VR made note of Kenpachi is probably because they have no device to prevent him from using full power, not he's "Kenpachi and iz the strongest shinigamiz evar."
