Anybody know any manga that are similar to Gantz?
So far I've discovered Deadman Wonderland and Battle Royale.

Anything else I should read? :0

Zetman is somewhat similar...

They aren't similar in any way I can explain, but I like Vagabond. It's probably my 2nd favorite series of all time.

The original Battle Royale was great, but the 2nd series sucks.

Psyren is like a less bloody, tamed down version of Gantz, even down to most of the rules, but the missions take place in the future, and the players are given psychic powers like Cherry's instead of weapons.

Ichi the Killer is like a prototype for Nishi. If you think Nishi is a great character, you'll love it. But it's EXTREMELY graphic; it makes the gore in Gantz look tame.

7 seeds is about 5 groups of teenagers who have been revived as a last, desperate hope to insure Mankind's survival after the end of civilization. One group knows what's going on, the other 4 don't. It's a story of survival and how people act in the absence of authority or rules, and it looks like it might be pretty interesting.

I agree, the first Battle Royale was genius; I need to read the novel sometime.
I can't bring myself to read the second series..
The first ended in a way that kind of wrapped things up, IMO.

And I've given thought to reading Ichi.
Is it scanlated?

I'll check out some of the other ones as well.

In the beginning a lot of people kept talking about the similarities between Psyren and Gantz, but the manga has developed a lot that the similarities are now minimal. Basically what they both have in common is the fact that the Drifters (owners of Psyren calling cards, the Gantzers in this series) are sent to the world of Psyren and have to reach a phone booth whilst avoiding dangers. Every time a round is finished, the points in the calling cards decrease, eventually reaching zero and freeing the Drifters.

I agree about Battle Royale. I loved it/also highly recomend it.

There is one called doubt, a group of people wake up, in an unknown building and get killed one by one, then there is suicide island where a group of people, that have no reason to live and signed some form, they are dumped onto an island to commit suicide basically, but some choose to live instead and there`s no laws or anything, so the women get raped like 2nd chapter.

Duds Hunt is kind of simlair...
The story is about a young guy who is bored with his life and job and an online friend recommends him to play a game called 'Duds Hunt'.

The only downside is that its only a one shot.

Bokurano is kinda similar in how the kids in the series are forced to fight aliens (alien robots).

-Bokurano (a lot like Gantz but more mechs)
-Battle Royale (game were people kill each other)
-Dud's Hunt (ditto)
-Doubt (ditto, sort of)
-Zero One (oku's previous manga, kid who tries to get a team together to fight in a videogame tournament)
-Reset (a game starts killing people)
-Akira (epic)
-NaruTaru (haven't read yet but same manga-ka as bokurano)
-Domu (manga that made seinen what it is today)
-Icaro
-Parasite (kid has to fight aliens)
-Freesia (hired avengers are payed to kill the person they're hired to in a small area)
-Dawn Chilly Hands (kid is sent out to fight zombies)
-High School of the Dead (ditto, kinda)
-Blue Heaven (a murderer is set loose on a cruise ship and everyone fights to survive)
-Golgo13 (cause this is who Togo is based off)

stay away from Psyren, in my opinion it's the worst manga ever, it makes me cringe whenever I see it in the same post as Gantz.

Yeah, but it`s not similar to gantz, and narutaru is down right evil I was looking at the anime thinking it was for 5 year old, but after the first episode it turns into a down right cruel anime, I mean the guy must hate kids or something, psyren is not as bad as you say, but like Crude Cross said the similarities between it and gantz go away after it gets into the story.
I also forgot the most similar manga/anime to gantz there is, it`s called red garden, it`s about 4 women that have woke up and see butterflies flying everywhere, the butterflies lead them to a woman named lula who tells them they died and they have new bodies, but there bodies are hers now, and for them to not disappear they have to kill monsters and if they die in the battle they die for real, and the have to get this book to go free, but they will get there memories erased. Seriously this is gantz!

Vagabond is amazing, my only gripe with it is that it can be brutally slow paced at times.

There is an Anime that calls "Red Garden". It's supposed to be like Gantz.
It's about dead or almost dead Girls that have to fight against monsters to get their lives back, if they lose they will be really dead.

I wonder if there's any series like Gantz without the violence. I mean I don't mind it at all, but there's other substance to Gantz too.

Hmmm, maybe Ganbare!!!Robocon!XD

I don't mind the violence in Gantz because it's no stupid or senseless violence, the violence is a part of the story.

I've spent a lot of time looking for other series similar to Gantz. Battle Royale is the closest by far. I would say the second closest might be Psyren at the begining, but during the 3rd mission it turns into something more like Naruto/Bleach. Psyren isn't terible, but its not that similar to Gantz.

i'm also going to confirm that Vagabond is freaking sweet.

Well, the girlfriend is out of town for two weeks, so I've got the house to myself, and today was an off-day for me, SO..

I read Ichi the Killer in its entirety, and I must say that I could easily see such a character being the basis for Nishi.

That was an excellent read; thanks for pointing it out initially GeorgeMarvin.

I couldn't find an alternative manga for Gantz yet.:( I don't really care for the most manga, I like Berserk, Alita, Homunculus, etc, but Gantz is the only manga I'm really obsessed with! Even to think about the ending of Gantz makes me sad,
I don't know what I should read after Gantz.:(

I wish Gantz would be more popular, so they maybe would let it go much longer(and Oku should get more money!)and there would be much more fans that would do some serious (not stupid porn!) Doujinshies!

Actually, Young Jump sells 1 million copies per week, 4 million copies per month. To put that into perspective, Batman, Superman, Spider-man, the Fantastic 4, Wolverine and the X-Men all sell 100,000 copies or less per month. The top 100 comics sold in the U.S. each month, COMBINED, often don't equal Young Jump's circulation. And Gantz is the most popular comic in Young Jump. Also, Oku gets a royalty of 10% or more on each copy of the volumes, and they have sold 10 million copies in Japan alone, at about $9 a pop. That's a cool $9 million US dollars or so. Probably more; he's in a position where he can negotiate more than just the minimum. He also gets royalties on merchandising items like the action figures and the anime DVD box sets. Oku isn't exactly a starving artist.

Every good series eventually comes to an end, and Gantz is no exception. A good series that ends nicely gives a feeling of accomplishment that makes the whole experience of reading it unforgetable.

I truly want Gantz to give me that feeling and thus I'd rather Oku finish the story in all the glory it deserves than extending it just to keep profit gains.

Besides, I like manga exactly due to episodic structure and wrapped-up narrative. A good writer doesn't need half-thousand chapters to deliver a good story.

Since the topic is about comparing Gantz to other mangas, Battle Royale is not only similar but is also a good example of how a good story can suck in the attempt to go beyond its conclusion.

I still say Bokurano is the closest, both are more sci-fi than Battle Royale and both have a trash talking pseudo-robot that teleports them to there mission.

I hope you are right! Because I heard very often that in Japan the payment(especially in art-business) is very crappy!
I heard that the animators at Gonzo(which is one of the biggest studios in Japan)only got 6 bucks an hour and you normally should get much more especially in the bigger studios.
I hope I'm wrong!:(

I think the reason why there isn't enough merchandise because Gantz is made for adults and the most adults don't buy figures, T-shirts and other stuff.

I wish there would be more Gantz-merchandise, they made a few figures(mostly Kishimoto and Reika), DVD's and Zippos.
I'm interested in Figures, Art, Manga and T-shirts, I don't know why they did Zippos?:darn
I also hope that they release an Gantz-art book someday!=)

Truthfully there are no other manga similar to Gantz. Psyren comes close,
but Psyren takes place in the future. And the guys from Psyren have
powers. Gantz is one of a kind. But i'm still lookin to see if their are
mangas similar to Gantz. Cause I love Gantz that much.

The only things Psyren and Gantz share in common is that they borrow a lot from other manga and movies. But the diffrence is that Gantz pays homage to the original properties it's based off while Psyren just blatently steals and gives nothing back.

and qualitiy wise Psyren doesn't even come close to Gantz.

Guy gets cyborgized to fight zombies/monsters. Its short unfortunately as alot of manhwas get canceled around first two seasons.

Just finished reading Battle Royale! And I loved it!!! I should have done it a lot earlier!:)
Inspiring artwork, amazing characters(even felt sorry for the bad guys!)and a fantastic story!!! One of my favourite Manga now!:3

Was hoping for a part two when I saw Battle Royale 2(Blitz Royale)! Got really happy till I saw the drawings...and I thought; WTF????? The drawings look like ass and fail. You would expect for such a deep and dark story some decent artwork!>.<
It's like Gantz in derp desu Chibi style!D:

Not like Gantz but still amazing; the manga from Junji Itou(Gyo, Tomie, Uzumaki)!:3

Going to check the other Manga that got mentioned here!:) Thanks!!!

Lol yeah it's pretty different. I lost all interest in it too when I saw the designs. I think it was drawn by a different artist. You should give the Battle Royale movie a go. It's a bit different but it's still very good.

What else would Killy say.. But yeah Blame! is one, if not the best manga i have ever read. Pure dark gritty Sci-fi. All of niheis works are great, everyone that likes sci-fi should give this mangaka a try. I know its not similar to gantz, but its just awsome.

Two other great mangas are crows & worst. two mangas by takahashi hiroshi about the same thing, just highschool boys fighting, but the characters are very ''real'' and straight forward. everyone should give them a try also!

haha you should read Ibitsu, I think it was scanlated here. If you thought manga couldn't scare you while reading try this. It's about some creepy goth girl who sits in the street by the trash around midnight and asks you if you have a sister or not. If you answer either way you're getting you're shit fucked up. Feels like a real horror.

Also of course if no one has mentioned it. Shamo. Closest thing you will get to the style of Gantz IMO. I wonder if the writer and illustrator have sorted their shit out yet ffs it's been 3 years...

I love the art and the story in Alita!!!:hearts

"Last order" was good at the beginning, but gets more and more ridiculous and chaotic with every new chapter!:darn
Alita got way too strong, lost her cuteness, the story is too random and there are too many new characters (I don't care)! I want that Alita continues her mission instead of stupid battles with stupid characters!:darn
