Bakuman TV Anime decided. ETV Fall.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?
No, makes sense. Bakuman is not likely to be so long that it would need to have such a huge buffer and allow for filler. Plus with SO MUCH talking in each chapter it's not likely they'll even need to do 2 chapters an episode... So it's fine they're doing an anime with only 65 chapters. Also this isn't until almost a year from now it would seem...
That's all there is to go on until the Jump issue comes out. I already wrote my comments in that, it's quoted from the Jump TOC discussion thread.
It's early for a series to be getting an anime at 65 chapters, but it says "fall" so it means not till next year, and the series seems like it will probably be around the same length as Death Note, so the series will likely be over or close to it by then. It's not the kind of series that runs for 7~10 years and would need a large buffer and filler arcs.
Go crazy...
I like to post this sorta thing when it gets announced so I'm sticking it here, too...

I'm happy that Bakuma becomes animation. But, I think Bakuman is fit more with a live-action drama than an animation.

That probably means I'll be pleasantly surprised once I see it, though.

I can't wait, and i think it could work very well as an Anime
after all, they were able to do deathnote and hikaru no go too, both mangas in which they mostly talk or do other non-action stuff.
I guess they could pull out filler with the romance stuff

Same but then again I also had trouble picturing Death Note as an anime before it came out. Either way I'm pretty excited.

MADHOUSE is a pretty large animation studio, they have A+ teams to D teams. If we get the A or A+ teams, it'll be great.
I personally would like BONES or Production I.G. If BONES uses their Ouran team, it should end up pretty darn good. J.C Staff would be okay if they follow the original material, if they have the director of Toradora it should work out fine.
Shaft woud be interesting, but they should be working on KoyomiVamp for next year after the success of Bakemonogatari.
They better keep Fukuyama Jun, I can't resist Code Geass seiyuu jokes.

But, Bones will probably air and finish work with Heroman next year... I wonder what will they do afterwards... But I don't really see them doing Bakuman (I'd rather like Eureka 7 second season anyways... XDD ah dreaming's nice) ;_; I'm rooting on Production I.G., but J.C Staff would be fine indeed. 8D

On a more serious note, the anime has a chance of becoming an awkward representation that don't really translate well the series concept (a manga about a manga) as well as bending over some new ideas that might actually make the metalanguage work in anime form.
Like some suggested, they'll use the turn-into-anime idea to make an anime showing another. - Kinda like that play staged into Hamlet's play, or Metal Gear Solid 2 taking itself as a videogame and sh*ting over the fourth wall. It might be amusing.

Usually 6 - 8 volumes of manga would translate to 26 episodes. We have about 7 volumes of material now, by the time the anime airs we'll have another 3 volumes. So there is enough material. But how they would end it is still a wonder.

Long running is over-rated as heck.
Long running manga authors simply aren't able to consistently keep the quality high; when you look at the anime counterparts, it takes the bad and makes it ten times worse.
I'd settle for a 5 part OVA if they could make it high quality. Most of the fans already know the story, they're looking to see if the anime studio can recreate the experience, which is hard as shit especially when you need to fit the plot pace into an episodic format which makes parts seem like it's dragging on and on but others feel totally rushed.
The guys who did FMA and soul eater also cut it short and apparently made shit up in their own endings (I think the studio was Bones, not sure) but despite the 1% of the audience who produced 99% of the cries of outrage, there is now the precedent that they can always go back and call re-do if they want, as long as the fanbase exists and its monetary pool talks loud enough. FWIW, I enjoyed both FMA and the remake.

Well, I don't know... Buso Renkin ran for 10 volumes, and it got covered in 26 episodes. I'm not sure how the later half went by as I skipped it to the final episodes because I didn't have the last volume at that time.
But it's a battle manga where you can make things short in the anime, unlike Bakuman where it's full of dialouge that you can't skip for it's importans to the plot.

I don't think most manga have as much dialogue as Bakuman.
If Bakuman is as long as Death Note it should at least take 35-40 episodes to finish.

Awesome! Bakuman's getting an anime, though I can't say I'm surprised. 25 episodes seems too little for it though. The team in charge of it did Honey & Clover and Nodame Cantabile right? Didn't those anime get more than one season? I know the latter did, which could mean Bakuman may get one as well.
And as for the channel its airing on, NHK's educational channel? I know the series has taught me a lot about the manga world and how it works, but it still feels odd knowing that it'll be airing in an educational channel.

J.C staff can produce some good anime with the right director. We have Kasai here, the best director from J.C staff. Well known for directing Honey and Clover and Nodame Cantabile. They're also quite good on the animation side. I hope Tatsuyuki Nagai would direct an episode or two for the romance episode, I loved what he has done with Toradora.
ANN listed Noriaki Akitaya as the other director, but ANN isn't an official source. Most likely it would be correct. He worked as episode director for Code Geass and Shana, he also did the first episode for both of these shows. Code Geass episode 1 was a pretty good first episode, Shana first episode actually gave me the creeps in a good way. So right now I'm quite happy with the people working on it.
Although BONES with Ouran/Soul Eater's team would be pretty interesting too.

This is airing on NHK educational channel, so I doubt there'll be a legal streaming option. Bakuman probably would get over subbed, it doesn't look like the hardest thing to translate. It's going to be one of the more hyped shows I would think.
kewl0210
January 14, 2010, 11:04 PM
Actually it's quite the opposite, it's one of the HARDEST things to translate.
It has tons of talking and very little action or... things that don't have talking. It's a slice of life manga. And the talking isn't about what's on screen it's about lots of different subjects, characters talking about what they think is going to happens and their opinions on things and it gets very non-literal.
Still though, it's likely to get a couple big groups.

You forgot FukuJun's most famous role. Lelouch from Code Geass. Miyano is also famous for voice Setsuna from Gundam 00 and Tamaki from Ouran. These two guys are probably tier 1 for male seiyuu idols.
You can always look them up on ANN or Wikipedia, so it's no biggie.

I wouldn't be too surprised if one or two characters are voiced by a different seiyuu, it has happened before (Pandora Hearts comes to mind in recent memories). I think Miyano Mamoru would do a good job, they might as well get a fangirl favourite seiyuu. Hanazawa Kana has one of the cutest and moe-est voice out of all the newbies, I approve of her. Sawashiro Miyuki always sound amazing, so no problem with her. I would love to hear more from Mizusawa Fumie, she's currently playing Erika from Heartcatch Pretty Cure <3.

Shinnosuke Tachibana, the VA who did Takagi's voice in the vomic did a great job though. Fukuyama Jun is a great voice actor, but I found his Saiko a bit weak. I'd rather Miyano Mamoru voice him instead.
LilaChan

FukuJun sounded too cute cute for Saiko, since he was practically using his shota voice. Miyano Mamoru would sound too 'gentleman' like for Saiko in my opinion, anyway I'm not very fond of his too-serious voice, he's the guy to voice genki-non-shota characters. I agree with Shinnosuke Tachibana doing a good job, but Miyano has the idol factor (like they said in Bakuman, the industry likes to hire cute seiyuus, this doesn't just apply to female seiyuus :darn).
They're probably going to keep FukuJun for the sake of fangirls, knowing J.C staff (who practically hires KugiRie for everything). Personally I've been imagining Hiro Shimono for Saiko, but that's just me.

^Oh my...I didn't even notice that! Lelouch and Light always been compared...Lelouch would probably geass Light, since it's quicker then Light writing Lelouch's name into his death note.
I still have no idea what audience this anime is targetting. This isn't exactly for young children, it has alot of casual fans, but no obessive fans. Also, it's not like long running shounen where merchandises and other stuff would make money. If it had noitamina's time slot, then it would actually make sense (or even KimiToke/Ouran's time slot). Because those are great timeslots for late night anime, especially for the older teenage group. This is airing on NHK educational channel (mainly for children), meaning the manga sales wouldn't really increase much either.
I'm being quite pessimistic. Even if the anime turn out to be good, I can't see it being commerially sucessful. But hey...weirder things have happened before. Durarara popularity this season REALLY surprised me.

The anime designs are identical to the manga, not sure whether it's a good thing or not. Detailed designs tend to have a higher chance of QUALITY moments. I'll take Toradora's simple designs with a high frame rate over detailed designs with a low frame rate. The colours looks kinda dull, but that might be because of the scanning.
FukuJun's Mashiro sounded somewhat odd anyway, so I'm not complaining. I hope they wouldn't replace Kana-chan.

^But Death Note is already really popular before the anime came out, it had a a live action movie to boost its popularity. Hence they can give a nice good budget. Even if its DVD doesn't make enough money, the export fee would have been able to paid for the cost.
NHK education channel's anime tend to flop...like REALLY badly...(in terms of DVD sales). But J.C Staff tend to be pretty good on the animation side, hopefully this gets a similar budget to Toradora. I'm hoping J.C staff would pick the watercolours background team.
Some how...I imaged Fukuda with Squalo's voice (from Reborn). It's probably because of the white long hair and my fangirlness towards Takahashi Hiroki. Shizuka Itou comes to mind when I think of Aoki

Wikipedia listed the anime adation seiyuu for Azuki and Miyoshi, which is translated from the official site (http://www9.nhk.or.jp/anime/bakuman/).
Azuki Miho-Hayami Saori (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saori_Hayami)
Miyoshi Kaya-Yahagi Sayuri (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sayuri_Yahagi)
Azuki is suppose to be a terrible singer right? Hayamin is well known for being a really good singer... Although I wanted them to keep Kana-chan for the anime, Hayamin is okay with me.

Okamoto Nobuhiko, he previously done Usui Takumi from Kaichou wa Maid-sama and John Brown from Ghost Hunt.. I think he can pull Eiji off. :3

August? Its begins October since its a Fall anime. Don't worry, I also made the same mistake :). Anyway, those sketches look pretty good. Its just a shame they lack the expressiveness (is that even a word?) and emotion of the manga's art style. But then again, that tends to happen a lot with manga to anime conversions.

Finally! We get to see the official Bakuman anime poster! The colours seem a bit odd, but then they reminded me of Nabari no Ou's posters and DVD covers. Nabari's anime was also done by JC Staff, and it had something of a watercolour look, especially its backgrounds. Is Bakuman going to be one of those watercolour series like Nabari no Ou, Nodame Cantabile and Honey & Clover (all done by JC Staff)? I really hope so!
Here's an example of a Nabari no Ou poster:

And here's what the watercolour anime look like:

Maybe it's not the right place to ask this but i still will since it's a manga about manga which turn to anime and now turns to anime as well.
What kind of things does the author of manga decide in the stages of his creation turning into anime?
Does he have control of the studio?
Are there several studio's that might fight about a certain title and who does the title go for what reasons? (very likely that money paid but I wanna still think that there is something more).
Does the studio need to purchase the title maybe simply from the magazine and the author have no say or little say?
Where does budget come from and how come people say that one piece has little budget if it has such high success rate, wouldn't it be logical that it will get more budget since there is an extra profit?

Mangaka have usually very little influence on the anime
because, in the end, an anime is an anime
take bakuman fictional manga for example
crow is very very popular, they got a lot of offers of studios who want to make the anime, eiji(or his editors) can choose whoever they want, but usually its more like otters11, it only had one offer. They waited for another but nothing came, so they just choose what was there.
In the anime there is even less influence. The mangaka might say "i would like to have voice actor X as the mian character" but in the ends its the studios choice.
Though usually the mangaka could care less what the anime does, in the end most mangaka are happy that there IS even a studio willing to do an adaption. Over time some studios might want to work with mangaka, like with onepiece or bleach
But they also ask the mangaka for suggestions, like the characters colors etc. Here is a good insight on those meetings
(the example is from hikaru no go, obatas first huge success series, but this omake here is "drawn" by the author)

... YEs, Kibate is completely right.
A good example would be, for instance, the Rurouni Kenshin anime, cancelled before animating the Jinchuu arc due to poor ratings.
They opted to cover a synopsis of said arc in an OVA named Seisou-hen, wih an ending which even the original author maligned.
The studios only care about ratings, I guess.
susanoo13
September 02, 2010, 11:13 AM
Yea but Kenishin had two studios doing it, at first it was studio Gallop (YGO, ES11) which did as far as I know the first 66 episodes, there was some disagreement about something and he didn't want to work with them which I wish never would have happened and then the show transferred to studio Deen (known for cancelling a lot of shows like Getbackers, Kenshin, Ranma 1/2, Rave master due to poor rating).
But all in all I really hope that some day at least some of those will be re-animated just for art without thinking about DVD sales or ratings.
Feel free to move this post if I went to much off topic

Exactly... see K-ON or even Baka to Test as an example. There was a 12-episode season and they did great so K-ON received a 24-episode 2nd season and Baka to Test's 2nd season is coming in 2011.

Episode 2, "stupid and clever." ( 第2話 「馬鹿と利口」)
Episode 3 "Family" ( 第3話 「親と子」 )
Episode 4 "key and when" ( 第4話 「時と鍵」 )
so,
Episode 1 = Chapter 1
Episode 2 = Chapter 2-3?
Episode 3 = Chapter 4
Episode 4 = Chapter 5?

They also updated the theme song titles...
Opening theme 「Blue Bird」
lyrics & music/Kobuchi Kentarou
arrangement/Kobukuro
vocals/Kobukuro
Ending theme 「BAKUROCK 〜未来の輪郭線〜」(BAKUROCK ~mirai no rinkakusen~/BAKUROCK ~outline of the future~)
lyrics/ryow inukami
music/mitsuyuki miyake,naoto suzuki,hiroto suzuki
arrangement/hiroto suzuki
vocals/YA-KYIM
The title for Kobukuro's song sounds very Kobukuro, to say the least XD Kobuchi Kentarou writes great lyrics (he's the Kobu in Kobukuro if anyone's wondering), so I'm really looking forward to this!
And the 25 episodes length is confirmed, it's on the website (under summary) :(
Based on the episode summary/preview they've put up, it looks like they will be certainly be covering the whole of chapter 1 in episode 1 (because they mentioned all the way until Saikou proposing to Azuki ^^)

Poor Bakuman, it didn't even have a preview pic when every other Fall 2010 anime did, so people had to use fanart, and now it doesn't have a proper trailer so people resort to making their own with slideshows D:

hello...... it isn't an action manga. So it's fine. It's not too bad really. As for the editors, I do wonder if at least one of them (RL editors) would be interested to voice their characters. It'd be a very unique anime.
Interesting that it's going to be aired at an educational channel. Looks like we'll get drawing tips after the show.

I think the animation looks pretty normal. Nothing phenomenal or exceptionally good, but this isn't Sunrise or Bones or one of the other bigger studios so that's unavoidable I suppose. And like someone already said, it isn't an action anime.
But I must gripe about the voices... I don't think the seiyuu match @___@ Or at least, they don't match my mental image of how the characters were going to sound... Am I the only one who feels that way?

Haha. Thanks for quoting my post. I actually didn't notice I typed amazing instead of amazed. :P Anyway, I doubt the best scenes of the first episode amounted to roughly 30 seconds. If anything, it showed some great mouth animation and some good voice acting. I think those are the most important. Bakuman is a text-heavy manga. So speaking is going to be the main aspect of the anime...or at least I'd assume so.

the main reason why i am disappointed is the "WHAO!" "WHAO!" scene, not only is teh quality horrible compared to the original magna picture, but also ironically the mouth movement looks soooo wrong, i can't descripe it in words.

I had no problem with it. Primarily because I didn't judge it...because, y'know, its NOT the full episode. I'll form a full opinion when the first episode airs. I thought the trailer for the Fairy Tail anime last October was good, but the anime's first 40 something episodes have been awful (the animation is getting better). This 27-30 second footage could look bad and the first episode be TOTALLY AMAZING.

I just saw the first episode, and I were horribly dissapointed. And first episode should be the impressing one.
It looked quite cheap, nothing special. Few character designs butchered a little bit. Voice's were allright. I initially thought that starting with Heroman (or whatever) opening was a fun idea, but then they played the actual opening almost immediatly after. Which was horribly dull and clichee. Watching the same moon from different places, being back to back on a windy field and then turning and suddenly being face to face in a sunset. Blaah.
And ending was again just running with like 3 frames looped. Duh.
There wasn't really anything which makes me want to keep watching this adaptation.
