I hope 170/171 are some filler content for 4th Hokage and have no relation to the current events in Manga. Probability is very less as episodes would have been created long time back and unless Kishi shares the drawings, it is not possible. But who knows.. Naruto's Animation studio knows how to mess with Manga.

of course the special is gonna be filler, there's no way they'd ever animate the recent manga chapters now. Kishi hasn't even finished the flashback yet. And the special is also animated by the guy who 163 so lol....

I really hope you're right...
The source from where the info that 170-171 would be showing the event of the flashback is not really good...

Everyone can write what they want there, but what they write must be checked by moderators...
I'm guessing that the moderators didn't knew that the one who wrote that summary was trolling...

In pic 3 seems the animator's gave naruto a little black pouch on his pants on ch 440 pg 17 he doesn't have one still it's just a minor detail.

Hmmm.... it looks like the special is placed around the chuunin exams. And it's not the current manga flashbacks (thank goodness!!) but it seems team 7 finds about Minato's secret lair. (the one where Minato took Kushina to after the Kyuubi extraction.)

This is the screen shot of the leaked Naruto 169 episode. Basically 170 and 171 is gonna be some filler then 172 continue from where the 169 left. It seems Episode 172 titled "Meeting" referring to meeting between nagato and yahiko.

Naruto is going back to where he was born in this 170-171 filler!!

and after... two more episode, and a new filler....
I wonder what if will be?!

I kinda hoped it would be with the Kumo nins, but I don't even know if they would have been introduced yet...

I also wonder if it's going to be a small filler (10 episodes, like the 6-tails thing), or a long one (4 months, like the awful 3-tails thing)...

The next two episodes are pure filler, no relation to the current That Night flashback. That was a troll. Just watch the preview and you'll see that Naruto is back to his part 1 days and doing a mission with the old Team 7. I'm actually a little hyped, I loved Team 7 with Sasuke :XD

They're dealing with Nagato's flashback in two episodes, that's perfect in my opinion. I wouldn't want it to last any shorter or longer. Seems like the second flashback episode will end with "Now tell me your answer!", so the third will be Naruto's answer, Gedo Rinne Tensei, Konan and Naruto's goodbyes and Naruto getting cheered on by the whole village. I got to say I'm looking forward to all of the episodes now, even the filler special. So any clues on what the next filler will be about?

I still think it has some relation to That Night flashback. From the looks of it, one of the scenes looks similar to Minato's lair in the flashback.

That's the story of the filler ep. 170-171

Going back in time to before the battle for the Chuunin Exam.

Naruto, who is training with great dedication for the exam, hears Jiraiya talk about a mysterious "Fourth Hokage's legacy." Apparently, these are the "ultimate secret" ninja's, left the neighborhood.

Naruto and Sakura are more than determined to get them to pass the exam for being Chuunin with their Team 7. Hearing this, Chouji and the rest of Team 10 will join them along the road.

How is that possible? Jiraya was only introduced prior to the 3rd stage of the chunin exam. That's when Naruto met jiraya as well. Are they just screwing the anime timeline even more :darn.

Knowing them, they probably will announce the new arc first ep just prior to 175 and will give it some name that will set our hopes for no filler and will make us feel the desire to kill small kittens when we see lame filler incoming in the preview at the end of 175.

They are pretty close to the manga right now, so it was to be expected...

Heh..... a filler about Iruka?? finally, another filler worth watching (I guess) the last time Iruka had a filler arc, it was about his relationship with Mizuki, which was done pretty well. Nice to see that Shippuden is upping their game a bit. Their last filler arc was pretty good. And this one seems to be just about as good.

Well, they were, but I guess they graduated in the 2.5 years timeskip...

BTW, the filler guys are stupid, there are so many good potential fillers.
1 example : "Kohonamaru's chunnin exam".

Konohamaru is fine, but I can't stand his teammates. They seem too childish for genins in every sense, I would explode.

It seems the filler goes as a flashback where Iruka assess Naruto progress throught the years. It starts with Iruka's first days as a teacher. Konohamaru was probably not attending Academy back then.

Perhaps it's a training filler with Naruto teaching Konohamaru the Rasengan. I know he already showed it, but it could be something related to their relationship, since it was pretty much buried on canon. Who knows.

Iruka is a pretty boring character and outlived his usefulness 5 chapters into the manga... Looks like the filler guys are getting desperate.

The problem with the fillers is that there are only so many friends to make and only so many lessons to learn for Naruto. Nothing of importance can come from fillers because they simply dont progress the main story. Making fillers with no Naruto at all would actually be the way to go.

There could have been some evil guys trying to get the frog oil, or whatever, and Naruto would have fight them, winning the trust of all of the frogs...

And then, it would have been part of all his training...

Iruka filers start after this episode and unfortuetly its been stated many times that there will be a few filler arcs and they may last till march :( i really hope its not true but thats whats floating round the net

look at wikipedia they have all the episode titles
whats not confirmed but belived is how long they will last which sources say march

Well fillers just after the Pain arc was expected anyway...but until march ? Oo
I doubt, but at least, we'll see, for once, a real Naruto in fillers who can do more than a rasengan in the face. Unless it will be fillers entirely focused on secondary character. ><

When Kishi talked about Sakura being an heroin soon I guess he meant in anime fillers. :D

It looks like Iruka's filler might only be a short one (3 to 6 episodes max, I'd say)...
The 3rd episode of this filler is called "Iruka's determinaton", and usually, those kind of title are near the ends of an arc, when the protagonist hang on and win... :tem

Not sure if I can and want to endure Kid-Naruto. I dont see how they can get anything into this filler, from comedic relief (aside from the aforementioned Kid-naruto doing childish things :notrust) to good fights. Who's Iruka supposed to fight? His students? Some mean evil guy threatening to kill them? Like that wouldn't ruin the whole Mizuki experience "later" on.

They should totally make a filler about the 3 years training with Jiraya :)

I am still expecting to see that in the manga.
I can't believe that Jiraya only taught how to break low level genjutsu, Odama Rasengan and That Jutsu in 2 years and a half.
If we would see that time in filler, i bet it would be something about Jiraya and hot springs.

Hmpf, I love the next bridge part that will continue the story so much from the manga for some weird reason and I was finally thinking I could see it but no, it will take at least two or three weeks!
Makes me kinda saaaad :(
I'ld enjoy those filler episodes and afterwards I do, if they just wouldn't take space on the story developement x)

As far as I know, when some material is out before the official release date and it is not propaganda, it is considered as leaked material.

The animation staff uploads these pictures every week (http://www.naruto.com/cgi-bin/nablog/staffdiary.cgi), so it's not a leak.
He probably thought that the Kumo pic was leaked many weeks early.

ah, that makes sense now. The way he wrote made no sense at all (i couldn't see what a leak has to do with who the director was, since we will see him again in 4-6 episodes probably).

About Kakashi, I don't really know what they may mean... (I still haven't watched the filler episode; crappy net - 'nough said.) But Inari?

Ain't that the kid from the Zabuza+Haku thingy in pre-skip Naruto?

He only shows up for what in the anime could be, like, two minutes at the most. Don't tell me they'll pick that up, make him jump into some reminiscence of the past and then make filler about how his town recovered from Gato and stuff after Team 7 left?

Ahaha, forget about filler ending anytime soon. A new season has been announced and it looks like they will show Naruto from the perspective of every minor charakter that he had contact with. The rumors that the filler will be till FEBRUARY!!! turn to be true.
The filler got a good start but soon it will be in the lame/utter crap zone.

One little hope I have is that they will mix little cannon with the filler. Looks like when they are done with Iruka they will show some cannon stuff and when Kakashi comes to be shown he will be remembering stuff. Next they will show where Naruto met Inari and Tezuna who help rebuild Konoha and here we go again with Inari retro. So MAYBE this filler would cover 3-4 chapters as well.

Episode 179 is most likely about when Kakashi takes over as Naruto's teacher. That would be the end of Iruka's part in Naruto's growth.

According to the Anime News Network, episode 180 is when the Five Kage Summit arc starts.

We already got the "OMG Naruto did something great" from Iruka's view already, in the story summary in episode 175 :D

Inari showed up in the manga after the Pain arc. I hope they leave it at that. No need to give that lame-ass the spotlight. Damn, the Kage summit arc can't start soon enough, even if it's Sasuke heavy. The battles and new characters will be so awesome!!!

Yeah I don't really care about most of them either.
However, the preview part fooled me badly a couple of times :> When I was watching Shipuuden for the first time (even before reading the Manga or anything, was the first time I saw Naruto at all) in the rescue Gaara arc, there was a Konoha grave shown in the opening or ending, in a way that made it certain to me that Kakashi would die :amuse
Dunno how that came, the opening just seemed to allude to Kakashi dying. And then those jumping bombs of Deidara hit him before it became clear that it was a Kagebunshin :D

The songs are really important for me. Most of them have to grow on me first, like the song from the Jiraya vs Pain arc. But after 2 or 3 episodes the part of Jiraya fighting Pain on Gamaken was inseparable from that great song.
And then there are the songs that are just great by themselves. Like the only god thing about the god forsaken Sora arc was the OP song "Aoi ano sora" or something. Just loved it.

"Broken Youth" is one of my favorite endings(song and animation), so I'm looking forward to the new OP.:D

I don't really know what to expect from the ED, but I hope it's as good as the last ones.

I don't know the animator of the episode 178 wich is a certain Hiroyuki Yamashita.

woohoo Haku and Zabuza redone in awesome animation quality. I'm more interested that Yamashita is an animation director all of a sudden. He was previously was just one of the best key animators that's been working on Shippuuden for a while. Off the top of my head, I remember he did the scene where Jiraiya wrote the message on the Elder Toad's back and the sword fight between Sasuke and KB in 143

so yeah, great news all around. Not sure they should be using them for canonized filler though...

I think they put a small part of canon to make the fillers more bearable for the people who are always complaining about filler.. These 2 or 3 minutes wont bridge the gap between the anime and the manga so its not the same as 18-20 minutes of canon material which will bridge the gap in 5 months max.. on the contrary with the 2-3 minutes the gap will increase which is what they want in order to give us pure canon material for a whole 20-25 episodes

And then, Inari (or Naruto) will remember something that "happened" when they were there during their first mission.

I hope that's the last three fillers without any Canon in it so the episodes afterwards can fully focus on it. But I don't expect my hopes to be met :amuse

I've never really liked images of boys like that, it just looks awkward. Looks like they're trying to repeat the scene at VotE.

Judging by last week's preview we're getting epic animation when Inari has his (flashback?). Beats me why we're getting such epic animation in filler scene, but oh well..

I can't wait until these semi-fillers are over. Iruka's fillers were great, but that was enough of interruptions. I hate to say it but I much rather have a small filler arc like the Seven-Tails arc than semi-fillers in every episode. It only functions as one giant tease and it makes the story's progression seem like it's going in snail speed. I'm ready for some action, I say Sasuke shows us how it's done, his fight episodes against the Kages including Danzou will no doubt have excellent animation.

Explain whats "enough gap". It may be for you, but not for them. I imagine Kishi would want to keep the manga AT LEAST 1 year ahead, so people would still buy it and not wait for the anime. ATM its exactly 60 chapters ahead. I expect from now on 2/3 of the year to be filler and the rest cannon.

I think you mean the ep. 184, because in the ep. 183 there isn't any judge, I've only said that they are new :)

Chiyuki Tanaka in ep. 153 did only some scenes, not the rest of the ep. The ep. 149 is totally directed by Tanaka ;)

There is much filler on the road , disappointing to some certain point while the anime is greatly catching up with the manga i would see the need to having a filler arc in the between ..... but the anime has totally divulged itself into fillers without no set date to when the next canon arc starts, they cant stall forever they have sixty or so chapters in between the anime and the manga storyline thats plenty of room for the manga to still grow distance from the anime after this filler arc has ended.. after 188. (if two to three chapters = episode per week) .

What if they have like 1.5-2 Chapters per Episode and include filling material for those 1.5-2 Chapter like they did in 113 - 115? If they do that we will probably never need to see fillers again and even the fillers within the episode will be complementary to the 1.5-2 Chapters so it will be in more detail which is better!

A stats for you. Japanese people likes to watch Naruto Shippuuden fillers and not canon episodes...

Stats from Oricon:
Episode 180 - Inari's Courage Put to the Test is in the top 10 anime of the period October 4 - October 10 with 4,3% of share.
Episode 183 - Naruto: Outbreak is one of the most viewed episodes of Naruto Shippuuden with 6,2% share (approx. the same audience of the show Pokémon).

During the Pain Arc:
- episode 152-153 (a special) is not ranked (low audience)
- episode 154-155-156-157-158 on air in April are out of the top 10
- Same situation for episodes 159-160-161-162 (on air from May 6)

The only one episodes of the Pain Arc that got ranked is episode 163 where Naruto start the battle - share 5.7%

Then... the reason why Studio Pierrot works on filler is this: audience in Japan like them.

While you aren't throwing this question at me, I will still answer. They aren't stupid for filler standards. They are not useless at all, and I won't go through it again as many have already stated why its important to have fillers.

You must not forget that yours is an opinion as well. I counter with if it isnt the story created by kishi it can only hurt the story by placing characters in situations that will cause personality outcomes not indicated in the original story. Idc if naruto only does ransengan in a filler and says no words his character has been compromised. A character is shaped by their experiences and filler experiences contradict the story by just existing. Not only are fillers useless they actully hurt the story

I'm actually surprised at all the complaining.

Do you honestly want them to put in fillers in the middle of the war, or even after the Kage Summit arc? There's NO better place to place fillers than here. We're down to a calm period in the manga, when the canon starts it's fights, fights, plot, fights, fights, more plot and more fights in a non-stop fashion. Let them have a long filler period here so that we can enjoy a long period of canon material after this.

I'm actually enjoying these fillers. Sure some of them have been silly, but many of them have been enjoyable too. All in all I don't mind some Team 7 (part 1) nostalgia, and frankly I'm tired of them putting in pointless arcs of bad story writing like the Sora, Sanbi and Rokubi arcs. I prefer this type of filler material. I've come to terms with the fillers lasting for a long time many weeks ago, so now I'm just enjoying them and looking forward to the canon story whenever it starts.

For someone who can remember, what is the least gap ever between the anime and manga???
I am asking this question because so far they don't make the gap less than 60 chapters, and so for us to start the non filler episodes in March and have no fillers for 5 months give us till episode 500 but with the gap falling to 50 Chapters!!
Note: I assume that the pacing will be 2 chapters per episode.

I like these fillers but I don't like it when it takes too long, however as much as I hate to say it for us to have no fillers till chapter maybe 514, we need to have fillers to maybe April or May. That is unless they plan to do like last year and give us an 8-episode filler arc in the between the Kage Summit arc and the next arc. In that case I think fillers can end in the end of February.

My guess is that they will do the 8-episode filler arc in between the KS arc and the next one(no spoilers).

So we will likely have a break in the last week of February, which is at episode 199. Then start the Kage Summit arc with a double episode (200 and 201) on the 3rd of March.

Well, Bleach's OP 6 wasn't really bad, but it wasn't iPod-worthy to be honest. Although Pierrot tend to pick really good songs for endings, such as Sakura Biyori, Kansha, For You, etc.... as for the openings, not so much unless it's in an epic arc. They're kind of Hit-and-Miss for me, actually.

If we use the ending songs I mentioned above as a standard/set bar, I think the next will be good. We'll have to wait and see.

P.S. hopefully they'll pick really great songs for the Jinchuuriki Confinement arc. It has to be perfect and I think we all know why. Kinda hope they'll come up with a song along the lines of Sakura Biyori and For You. Those type of songs are perfect for that arc.

The new OP will proabably come in March with the canon episodes.

New opening always comes for the first episode of April and October, regardless of fillers or cannon. For exemple, in August and September 2008, we were back to cannon from the Sora arc, but they stick to the Blue Bird opening until the first episode of October, although they changed a scene in the intro animation. The same went with Closer when we moved from cannon to the Guren arc. Then we got Hotaru no Hikari which ignored the Guren filler to introduce the Hebi arc.

The only exception is at Shippuuden start, but that was because they needed a solid transition to bring the disappointed fan back in front of their TV.

Back at the begining of the current fillers, the Japaneses on 2ch said there will be six months of fillers, which is to say from the first week of september untill the last week of February.

As for the opening, if it's just for three or four episodes, they probably won't change a thing and wait for April.

The one thing that makes me pissed about the video is the Pain fight. THAT'S how the Pain fight should've been like. P.S. Naruto getting the same chakra knives as Asuma/Shikamaru is EPIC WIN for me. It does seem to fit Naruto's style more. Although I still would've liked him learning Kenjutsu from Bee and incorporate Bee's style to his own style.

Yes, that's the cry of his and Naruto's baby. Sexy no jutsu ended up creating a womb in Naruto.

Even Naruto's seyiuu and Kishyimoto were talking about Naruto giving birth to a baby in Jump Festa. Hypothetically, in the future (Takeuchi wanted to be the baby's voice).

OK, OK, I know they were joking around, but it was very funny to read the translators debating if it could be other thing, cause the words used meant that Naruto would give birth to a baby.
And i'm joking too. The first thing in my mind was the end of 2001: a space odissey.

I liked the way Sasuke smiled at the end though, like he was happy, like really happy. Not grinning evhully, but smiling.

It's well done, but still: It's 95% old material, and the drawing is way off at some points. Not to mention this fight doesn't make sense with Naruto losing for the 3rd time, with all powerups unlocked and Madara and Kabuto still running around.

You don't get it? It's because Naruto and Sasuke's sword-dance is the mating ritual for ninjas. At the end Sasuke summoned their baby through his/her MS. The shocked face is because it looks like Orochimaru.

"The Gift" is a recap of all of Itachi's life from Itachis point of view (remember, Itachi can manipulate time, he could tell you his whole story in secounds), starting with the birth of his little brother, Sasuke (the crybaby), and Itachis constant fight to help and protect him.

This way Sasuke would know the thruth, while we, the readers, still won't. This makes it easier for the writer to surprice us later by having Sasuke do something completely out of character because of something he knows that we don't.

Though, I had already thought of the rest of your reply and I hope it's that as well. Wasn't it said once that he saw something in the night the Kyuubi attacked that made him anti-war? Maybe 'the gift' shows him all that happened that night and how Itachi came to kill his clan, giving Sasuke an understanding of why he did what he did without Madara's dark influence.

I thought the whole point of the Mangekyo's appearing and the baby crying was to symbolize the birth of his EMS. Didn't really think it was supposed to be looked into any further than that...

Cool ova, obviously isn't near canon for the future but it was a pretty neat summary of the series with a very well done choreographed fight.

Nope, but is rumored a break after the 196 and then a special: 197-198.

There are 3 possibility:
1) The special starts the canon
2) The special ends the fillers, but canon starts from 199
3) The special is a particular filler, but the fillers will continue after that

Don't see the actual arc in the manga... Naruto is one of the best manga at Shueisha and all the merchandising worldwide are $$$$. So, despite the Great Ninja 4th War situation, the manga will not end so quickly. IMHO 2-3 years are needed.

Anyway, as you've said, the manga as some hole that the anime can take for slowing the pace :)

LoL at anyone who thinks Naruto manga will end soon. At best there will be at least 2-3 more years. Hell, just look at Bleach. And that one does not even sell that well. So the anime will remain around half-full year behind MINIMUM AT ALL TIMES. Get real, people, this world is run by $$$$ and that is all there is to it.

Hell, there are even strong speculation that we will have another time skip after this war. The manga can easily go for another 5+ years...

And on the next volume cover he explained that he meant that he planned the end already,that he will work hard on the end and that it won't end anytime soon.;)

The anime could already start,the gap between the manga and the anime is big enough.In some weeks it's 100 chapters already.

If I'm remember right, the anime has endend on chapter 450 and now we're at chapter 523. So the anime is ~70 chapters away from the manga. Not really 100.

If the canon will restart from March, as stated in one my old post, the distance anime-manga will be around 80 chapters, which is good.
Talking about season, the actual filler arc will be at 21 episodes released with the ep. 196 on air January 27.

The maximum filler arc reached by Shippuuden is the Sanbi, with an entire season of 24 episodes. This can be repeated with the actual arc and the theory fits a lot.

The 24th episode is the 199. Sooooo, from 200 we can probably talk for canon :amuse

Yeah yeah yeah!!! Finally these useless (because after 20 fillers we aren't still at the end of the arc or in a point where they can make other fillers) fillers are over!! I cant wait for that day! One of the best arc is finally coming!!

Yeeeesss! Whooo. Finally :) I want to see if we0ll have good animators for the starts or the quality will be as the Pain Arc. Hoping that the pace will not that fast but not too slowly. The anime need to animate the holes of the manga (the scenes off screen).

I think it's a scene taken from the special preview aired on Tv Tokyo. Remember that Crunchyroll has only the normal preview, which is the 197, and not 197-198.

We need to wait RAW for find more.
