I dont know if this was posted but since i watched One Piece i came to like pirate movies so i watched a documentary about Blackbeard- he was known as the most notorious pirate along with Captain Kidd and Bartholomew Roberts.
What i was suprised is that Blackbeard accepted a pardon with the Royal Navy that he could live a normal life if he wouldn't continue being a pirate.( He became a sichibukai :P ) but then he revolted and became again a pirate. Also his name was Edward Teach or Edward Thatch.

I mean we could get hints about what happens in the future:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackbeard
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartholomew_Roberts -he was .. a tall black man, near forty years of age.. also that book that he holds might not be the bible but the pirate code which he made.

If you have watched The Adventures of Baron Munchausen you can see some analogies between Munchhausen's crew and the Blackbeard Pirates (Sharpshooter with incredible eyesight & incredibly strong man) and so it might share some insight on what abilities Doc Q and Lafitte might have.
It's fun to see how Oda combines his ideas with other sources.

Oh, and you probably know it already, but a lot of character names in OP are inspired by real life pirate names or mean something related to ships/sea etc. in different languages.
