View Full Version : Discussion Is Naruto vs Sasuke a classical Werewolf vs Vampire?

I know this sounds odd, concerning Naruto specially. But I ended up seeing similarities.

-Naruto can turn into the Kyuubi when he loses his temper, turning into a mindless and mercyless killer. He has an elemental seal on his belly, while lycanthropes are said to have pentagrams in their skin (pentagrams are a 5 elemental symbol). This is an 'old-werewolf movie' lore.

He's also loyal and sort of dumb. He is scared of his counter part, and seeks mystical ways to keep his control (such as a werewolf seeks gypsies to control his curse). In a way, the Kyuubi is indeed a curse. And having a chakra that turns others to stone seems to me like a gypsy curse that makes your own blood poisonous (turning to stone is a gypsy curse, although I'm lacking sources to quote).

-Sasuke's eyes seem bloodshot like that of Vampires. These are known to have hypnotic powers to lure their victims and to be cold and souless. Sasuke's hatred has turned him very cold and he always had very strong genjutsu powers. He also has now the ability to fly, using his Kuchyose, and a wonderful sight. He also cries blood tears when using his powers, and blood tears are also a vampiric sign.

He is extremely rational, although his lust for killing can drive him more than his reason.

-Both of them seem to have the exact opposite of each other in therms of techniques, and somehow nullify each other. Modern tales of Vampires and Werewolves seem to insist on a sort of rivalry between werewolves and vampires, as if they were destined to fight each other till the end of time.

So the question is on: are Naruto versus Sasuke fights somehow inspired in Vampire versus Werewolves disputes?

Just so you know, I've accidentaly seen one only movie of those "New Moon/Whatever" series (due to my wife renting it), and I just can't help knowing about those because there are mentions to it everywhere (so, not a fan of those whatsoever). -_-' And I'm not a fan of Vampire or Werewolf RPGs whatsoever either. I never wished for Nartuto to have any relationship with this theme, but it came landing on my lap... Sry.

vampires - bloodsucker parasites who enjoy lifes at the expense of others
werewolves - psychos that can't controll themselves and eat everybody in sight

so I'd say Naruto vs Sasuke is more like Jesus vs Were-Vampire LOLZ

I, for once, do not believe that Vampire's and Werewolf abilities nullify each other. Vampires can THINK, they have inhuman strength and that's what makes them better. classical werewolves are simple, uncontrollable beasts. it's just that in late 20th and 21st centuries people like it when both sides are balanced: nobody wants to see clever, sexy, god-mode vampires vs crazy-ass, mindless dogs. too unfair.

Sasuke's summon doesn't enable him to fly himself, it enables him to fly on the bird

btw: New Moon? did you really have to bring that up? :notrust

First you say Naruto is dumb, which he might be -outside of fighting-, he thinks of things in an odd and perhaps autistic ways. When he fights he is very well skilled in the art of deception, hiding techniques within techniques and changing ideas and strategies on the fly. Even in his fox demon state the demon is pretty crafty.

Then you say that Sasuke is rational but driven by lust to kill, you can't be extremely rational and driven by emotion.

You're looking for stuff that isn't even there. Stuff that you would have to go leaps and bounds out of the theme to get to.

I see your point, but I think the whole deal between Naruto and Sasuke is that they're supposed to be natural opposites, so there are bound to be similarities between them and other things.

Well, fictional works often have inspiration from other fictional themes, since the author is human afterall and probably familiar with other works...I don't think Naruto is intended to be similar to the vampire-werewolf theme(which lately is over-over-over-used), but similarities cannot be denied also...I think I can spot similarities with other themes as well if I really want to since, as Byakko93 said above me, they are supposed to be natural enemies, destined to fight each other...

I said Sasuke is extremely rational except for his lust to kill that goes over his rationality. Not saying opposite things. I'm saying only his desire to kill is stronger than his reason.

Well I agree with you that the connection is definitely there but I don't think Kishi had that specifically in mind when he came up with the Naruto vs. Sasuke idea (whenever that was). Vampires and Werewolves are mostly Western mythology so he probably had some Eastern equivalent of the rivalry thing.

I forgot to mention the 'Oro-biting-Sasuke's-neck' thing and Sasuke biting Karin (although other did it too) to replenish his strength. Sasuke on the Second stage of the cursed seal also became winged, and the cursed seal taking over him like a poison in his veins is very much a vampiric transformation, slowly caving in to "its new nature".

Since when were Wherewolves fighting vampires? Twilight? Underworld? Nine years old is not "classical".

You know what else is a neat coincidence? Vampires often used pet werewolf familiars to protect their coffins as they slept during the day. And Madara used the Kyuubi as a pet too. Though I don't think a vampire used hypnosis to control the wolf familiars. They may have just controlled them through fear.

Another funny one? Mokuton can manipulate Kyuubi's chakra. And Wolfsbane, a flower, can weaken werewolves too.

But yeah I've often noticed things like this but am well aware Kishimoto didn't do so intentionally, so I didn't bother mentioning it to anyone but my brother, lol. Worse part about it though is I hate vampires, and like werewolves... but hate Naruto and like Sasuke. Wierd.

Yes you can. They are not polar opposites, just different things.
