Well looks like everyone has basically matched themselves up against an opponent now. Just a question of whether Mashima will decide to focus on each of the battles individually or show them all one-by-one?

Love how the Lucy sex appeal failed again. Worked on me though ;)

Been a bit of Natsu-with-a-dragon-in-the-background lately. I wonder if there's something more to this than trying to show his animalistic quality?

And I didn't comment on this last time, but when is Gray going to get a decent opponent? His opponent's are usually:
A) No-one special
or B) designed to beat him

When's Gray going to beat someone important again? Don't feel like he's had a decent battle since Leon.

On page 18 of chapter 183. The image of the dragon behind Natsu resembles Igneel's features. Could this suggest that both the dragon and the dragon slayer share a mystical bond of some sort....or is it just a coincidence.

I hope they reveal all of natsu's past soon.....hopefully after this arc. I wonder what sort of interactions could occur between natsu and the black dragon when they finally meet. Maybe they might battle....

P.S. that monster academy reminds me of Hiro Mashima's other manga called Monster Soul.

It will be nice if that key is the key for the dragon stellar spirit, , but taht will be a plot hole.
Looks like the first battle to show is going to be Lucy vs. the old man,(not as interesting as erza vs Erza, or Gazille vs Panther; but I'm waiting to see Uranometria again

This chapter probably had the most character and plot developement EVER. While most of you are thinkin im nuts, it was Natsu who tried to get Lucy to use a sexy attack. If you take a few seconds to think about this, this implies Natsu thinks Lucy is sexy, which implies he actually likes girls and thinks about this stuff. If you guys were like me and thinkin Natsu probably doesn't even like girls, that he is A-sexual. Well i'll be damned, were getting some where now.

Wow, that makes a lot of sense. Foreshadowing of unraveling Natsu's past with Lisanna? I also have a gut feeling when Edo-FT joins in the fray, Natsu will truly become a dragon (AKA Ballistic) y'know what I'm talking about don't you?;)

so now natsu has enough power to give us another dragon view. he only had that 2 times in the past and both times he used outside powerups. also what the hell? any key that stores magical power is a steller key? also i feel sorry for coco. hope botht he king and his old s.o.b of a servent dies.

Comment for this chapter:

Good chapter.
Coco is really worried for Phanter Lily, so he escape, he run for him.
The Lucy's strategy failed again, as the man which have Virgo's key.
Natsu has gone crazy, and great than behind him there is Igneel's image (in a similar way when he fought against Gerald in the Tower (only than there was a common Dragon)).
In the end Lucy face the old guy, because he misunderstand his words.

My prediction for chapter 184:

I think than Natsu will win against his enemies.
And (not in the next chapter) also Gray will win against his enemies, with the power of his feeling (in a similar way when he defeated the hawk in Gerald's tower, or also against Luvia, when he frozen Luvia's water).
But perhaps Natsu and Gray will exchange his enemies, salso if after this chapter I think than this is more difficult.

I think than Lucy will win against the old guy, after that Coco will tell her the truth about the key, and after hearing Lucy's story (the fact than she (with the other) want to free her friends...) will give her the key, and perhaps together will head for Lacrymia where Lily and Gazille fight.
I think than Lily will win or perhaps he will be near the winning when they will arrive.
Lily after hearing the story from Coco will stop the fight and he will let than Gazille crush the Lacrymia.

hughes is truly screwed now, natsu is really pissed meaning he is gonna go crazy and rampage. I doubt Hughes can do much from now, his only power is to throw stuff to natsu but right now his fire should be able to burn of whatever comes at him. Wonder what power that old man has. He is in for a decent surprise if he is about to face stellar spirits. I beat this fight will be dedicated to show of gemini. Gemini should be able to copy the old guys magic and get some info from him. It would also be a good choice to trick the king into stopping the plan to destroy the exceed.

Hmm if that chain thing is full of dragon slayer magic, wouldnt firing it at the lachryma free everyone?
I guess FT is going to be saved like that or Edo-FT will show up on the floating island and teleport away with the lachryma.

Im disappointed with this chapter. I thought we would get some fights here, but this is yet another build up chapter. And we haven't even seen the reaction of the Exceeds (Queens) yet. But the biggest disappointment for me was he use of the DS magic. I was expecting a way much bigger use for the DS magic after that much build up.

Igneel's image was epic though.

There could be any number of reasons why...

One that comes to mind off the bat, is the fact that she seems to be a "child". Children don't grasp morals the same way as older people do.

Also, there is no evidence that shows that anyone outside of the guards and the king, know that people's lives are being used in such a manner.

nothing really epic happened in this chapter though I laso wondered about Copco's selfishness as the death of hundreds of exceed is ok but Lilly has to survive. On the other hand it shows that not everyone is willing to kill for the eternal magic if it means suffering of a friend. it may be selfish but it is a possitive point for the Erdrad Kingdom. Who knows what would happen if the whole kingdome knew what the newfound Lachryma is, i doubt they'd all be happy to hear they r living on other human lifes

I want to get back to the Lily vs Gizelle fight. My guess is that Lily is the only character from Edoras to go to Earthland and join FT. He loves fighting too much to pass up the opportunity, and since hes the only interesting character whose not a duplicate it'd make sense.
In terms of power he's probably up there with with Mist Gun and Luxus. So itd be a good addition. Fairy Tail's top 10 could take on any guild:

1. Makarov
2. Gildarts Crive (even if he lost an arm, leg and organ)
3. Luxus
4. Mist Gun
5. Panther Lily
6. Erza
7. Natsu
8. Gizzelle
9. Grey
10. LucyxLoki

My main reason for putting Panther Lily> Erza is that the Edolas version was Division 1 captain while she was division 2, but since the Earthland Erza is stronger thats debatable. And I guess if Panther Lily comes Coco probably will be running around FT too.

From where did you get the impression that Pantherlily loves to fight? If anything, it's only been hinted towards the opposite. He seemed to disagree with the decision of the King to boost the Kingdoms military power, and with his plan to go to war with the Exceed altogether.

About his power level... well, what you said would make some sense if the divisions number was equivalent to their power, but we don't know that for sure yet, so it's only a supposition.

Fanboys being fanboys I suppose; however I concur with the idea that Pantherlily gets "trapped" in Earthland - I feel his character's too unique to disappear altogether.

And I don't agree with Division Numbers = Power Level bit. The numbers are for titles, not status of power.

Everyone who heard the speech knows, at least, that the Exceed are going to be annihilated for Edolas' convenience. Also everyone who was aware of Code ETD or saw it happen knows that Lachryma are the result of sealing beings with inherent magical power.

So essentially Coco is either morally reprobate for being okay with killing anything and anyone she doesn't personally care about, or she's an imbecile who hasn't thought past the immediate.

Either way, I hate her.

Hmm there are some things to consider among those is the fact that the humans in this realm are suppressed by the Exceed, also we dont know who this queen is yet.

And also not everyone has the same morals, not in this real world we live in nor would it go like that in manga that is written with some sense of reality. Dont want to get political or anything but there are people on this planet that think its ok to kill other humans for their needs/beliefs or w/e. Its just the majority of the people in our western cultures that find this repulsive.

There are two basic stances to morality: absolute and relative.

If you're a moral relativist, you believe that there are no actual 'right' and 'wrong' actions - the canonical strawman is whether it is ever, in any culture, okay to kill and eat babies.

If you're a moral absolutist, you believe that there are some things (like the aforementioned baby eating) which are universally morally reprehensible, and that everyone should be held to account for.

The problem with the former is that if you have no sense of fixed morality, then popular opinion rules, and things like this example in Fairy Tail are not, in fact, 'wrong' in any real sense other than as a pure opinion. In fact, the question of morality in this arc of the manga serves as a pretty good illustration of why moral relativism is wonky - in order to get this magical power they're willing to kill a whole mess of people.

Naturally this appears to be a straightforward commentary on the US and the measures it takes presumably to meet its energy needs, e.g. the war in Iraq, but the analogy holds for lots of regimes in lots of countries in pursuit of lots of different interests.

Well i think your going a bit far on the eating of babies :D But ill give a somewhat similar example of my own people ;)

This example is in some context the same as what the Edolas people do with the Earthlanders as in taking something off them/killing them!

We the dutch ruled over the Banda Islands in our golden age, Now on these islands was the only source of Nutmeg at the time. So whoever traded with the indiginous people could get rich, the dutch (my people) forced a monopoly on it. However the islanders traded with other nations as well. So the dutch enforcing their monopoly (hiring japanese merceneries + own forces and butcherd the locals. of the 15000 people only like a 1000 remained. So a complete masacre...for nutmeg.

So taking our own human history its rather common that these things happen. Im not saying its good but it happend.

We assumed that because of the scratches. Now that we know the Exceed were supposed to kill the Dragon Slayers there is the chance that it was an Exceed.

I don't think what natsu did this chapter was dragon force. Dragon force so far seems to be some sort of transformation rather than natsu being pissed and having the shape of a dragon appearing behind him. I am pretty sure we have seen the whole dragon thing before without it being dragon force. I think this is just regular natsu being severely pissed.
