Summary : Tsunade comes face to face with Tendo Pain on the rooftop of the Hokage mansion. When Pain demands the Nine Tails be handed over, Tsunade refuses. However, Pain uses the Ningendo’s power to learn of Naruto’s current location in Mount Myoboku. Tsunade clenches at the sight of the growing number of casualties within the Leaf. But Pain, who condemns the Leaf’s arrogance as a major nation, makes the choice to deliver catastrophic damage against the Leaf Village to teach them what true pain is.

Pain is too Godly, the music gave me goosebumps!

The entrance of Naruto, Fukasaku, Gambunta, Gamahiro, Gamaken, & Gamakichi was dope; the animators even gave Naruto Jiraiya's funny entrance theme.

It seems that it wasn't Mount Myoboku's atmosphere that made Naruto's sage eyelids orange, oh well, nothing too serious.

I don't think you get what I'm saying. In the previous episodes people were complaining that Naruto's eyelids weren't red (as shown in the manga), but orange due to the fact that Mount Myoboku has a different atmosphere (toad oil would instantly evaporate outside Myobokuzan). That's what some speculated.

like I said before, the orange eyeliner is because of bright shading. Its daytime obviously so they're gonna use a bright palette to color everything. So unless it becomes cloudy within the next few minutes, Naruto's eyes are gonna stay orange

I have to disagree, so far we've only seen a glimpse of the episode. Bad quality could also mean fluid animation, Kakashi vs Kakuzu is a good example for this. I don't think they are going to mess them up, if they do, Naruto should get a new animation studio :>

Huh? The preview only shows some of the conversations, not the actual action so I fail to see in which way the animation "seems ugly" as almost none is shown.

I agree this episode was the most epic since this arc started.

Pain is so godly, his shinra tensei and the background music gave me goosebumps. I mean the Pain infront of the sun he really looked like god.

Too bad Naruto´s orange color under eyes didnt change but like others said, I think it will be red when there will be darker.

And I must agree, from the preview, the animation look crappy on the next chapter :(

Except the poor choice of song for naruto's entrance everything else was damn near perfect.

but again to me it happened to fast. In my mind all of this destruction took longer. I was hoping for more mini-fights inside the village that would have extended this arc 5 or more episodes. I'm not talking saint seiya or DBZ long, but long enough to allow the struggle of konoha to sink in the viewers, stress out nagato's frustration that led to that epic finish of konoha's destruction.

I still loved it. is probably that i had so high expectations to see this on the anime. The anime-directors should use this forums to grasp the idea of what people are expecting, of what people are envisioning, specially when is material that out there already.

Episode had alright animation. def better then what we have seen recently. Pain did kinda look a little stupid levetating. Like he was in DBZ. But al and all it was a good episode. The next one on the other hand will be horrid. Sub par animation (And yes people it has been confirmed all ready we know the animation team and therefor the budget months in advanced) on the most important episode of the arc. Oh well this was known for a while so I guess the shock isnt as strong but I guess i secretly hoped deep down it wouldn't be true, but judging from the preview its now been confirmed. And inb4 any one says "duuudz what are u talking bout animation guud" just look at what studio parrot can do when they care about what their doing, I e Bleach, Naruto movies, and naruto episodes team kakshi v Hidan and kakuzu and sasuke v dedira. Heck even sasuke vs killer bee, sasuke vrs itachi and kakashi canonicals wernt done by the best team but still turned out good. so no excuse this time.

It was a good episode. It wasn't my favorite part in the manga, so i didn't get excited about it. Pein looked so powerful.
You guys complain about orange or red, i just wished they weren't there. It keeps reminding me of Prescila, the Queen of the Desert movie ^_^

As for the previews it seemed pretty obvious they showed only the very beginning 30 secs ... the rest of it has to be hardcore action with much better animation

Superb episode, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Animation was pretty good, artwork was great, superb extensions of the manga with fillers, especially in Konan's case, she looked really strong. This makes it two times that the anime has pulled off making her look powerful and frightening. Pain's speech and Shinra Tensei build up was superbly shown.

My only complaint would be the actual Shinra Tensei was slow and dull, I imagined it having far more burst power and instant effect. I got the impression that the village was almost instantly blown away (http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/429/12-13/), while here it's like it's happening gradually and in slow motion. Pain's entrance in front of Tsunade wasn't like in the manga either (http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/427/16/). I really wish they would keep to the manga material more consistently, sometimes it's good to expand, but his appearance was totally badass in the manga and shouldn't have been changed. It looked so dynamic in the manga, while it looked slow and slightly boring in the anime, even if it adds to Pain's "God" powers when he's just hovering down. Other than that I imagined another soundtrack when Naruto appeared, it didn't really fit but I'm okay with it. No soundtrack there would actually be a lot better.

Preview looks like shit, but I won't complain before I see the real deal. The animation in the actual fight might be a lot better. This week's "mediocre" team did very well, so I have hope.

Second slug can be crushed (it is like a jelly) if the weight of the construction (buildings were at least several stores hight) will be hight. Blast as it is isn t so dangerous to the human body. But the debris,or over sharp/hard/fast objects that are accelerated by it are. So it will even worser if you will be dragged several hundred meters and crushed beneath the several tons of the rubble. This is like an avalanche but from the concrete,beams,bricks,sharp metal constructions. Humans cant survive this.

Was a bit disappointed they didn't add filler fighting and hold the shinra tensei off till the next episode. If they could do it with Ibiki and Anbu. I'm sure they could have pulled off some bad-ass combination jutsu with Kiba and his mom or Shino and his dad. Either way and EPIC episode.

I can't wait till next episode. It kinda reminds me of DBZ when Gohan goes SSJ2 and destroys all those Cell. Jr's and how badass he was.:)

i hope tht they use the animators thy use 4 the sasuke arc,lets face it, most of the sasuke arcs (im talking waaaaaaaaaaaaay bk, zabuza v kakashi, sasuke v haku, when naruto was knocked out by haku, to the nxt chapters i.e sasuke v hachibi and sasuke v itichi to name the leaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast)
have had the best animators whereas we'r given reasonably poor animation when naruto's battles, bar; naruto v kukuzu.xD which is in my book the best fight in the anime to date.

My god, I've seen the buildup to the ST five times now and I'm still getting chills. This is a near perfect episode, and I'm so glad that it is.

The whole episode has this looming feeling over it with the music and all, as if something terrible is going to happen. Pain's convo with Tsunade was heavy as hell. I wish they would have used this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCfiqY05BpA) theme during that convo though, only thing that could have made it more epic. Then him flying off slowly and how he's then shown in front of the sun, that's even more epic than Itachi in front of Deidara. I was in awe.

I don't care a lot about animation so I'm sure I'm gonna enjoy the next episode as well :tem

lool, my opinions are always the opposite of the majority. In fact I didn't REALLY enjoyed this episode. I would've like too see a more brutal Shinra Tensei, i mean with a more intense and dark atmosphere. I would've love if they put the same ST they put in the opening when Pain blow away team Neji, Lee and others.

In fact, I prefer WAY MORE last episode because of music, animation and everything...but anyway, my opinion.

BUT there is something really wrong with Pain just floating around i mean in the manga he Jumps up a extremely fast pace to get to the hieght he was at.

You're missing several things from the manga (if you have read that part that is). I agree that it seems like Katsuya wasn't attached to some of them, but appearances can be deceiving as Katsuyu seems to be able to hide herself under clothes, and even increase her size if necessary. We don't know all the details but we do see her detaching from Kiba's mom (and presumably Kiba too) and we are told that Tsunade used up all her chakra to protect/shield the villagers from Pain's attack and that she did so through Katsuyu.

And thus no one was squished as Tsunade's chakra gaze Katsuyu the strength to endure all the damage and pressure.

It wasn't a perfect defense, Kiba and Shikamaru and others still got hurt, but it seemed to work quite well. Katsuyu could then slide her way to freedom or push away rubble or simply cry for help if she couldn't get the person free.

Nice episode, best scene was when Pain stood before the Sun, and the music that was playing during that scene was perfectly fit. Love the Pain theme, and the Shinra Tensei was mind blowing, lol @ Konoha getting blown :lmao

I really liked how Naruto was introduced; sweet music. Looking forward to next week.
Solid episode really, even the scenes with Konan and the Aburame clan were really good.

Is it me, of did this episode look crappy in the preview last week?

Complete surprise! This was the best episode in the arc. The opening was awesome. The animation was great. The music choices were great. The pacing was perfect and the directing was phenomenal. I was slightly bummed that Naruto didnt have some heroic music, but as one poster said, it makes sense to give him Jaraiya's intro music. Very good choice. I'm so glad they got one of the key episodes down to perfection FINALLY. I wish this attention to detail and directing was given to Kakashi vs. Pain episode.

Now, the next episode looks crappy in the preview (quality wise) but maybe it will end up being better like this one. I think it may be a talking ep. Cant wait! YESSSS!!!!

Nice episode. Some minor flaws that have already been pointed out like Pain's entry. Or the small frogs, they looked kinda weird to me.

Other than that, wow. Pain could babble anything he wanted, he just sounds... divine. Perfect voice for his character.

I don't know why people complain about Naruto's entry music. It's perfect imo. It's a reference to Jiraya, and it creates suspension. "Epic" music wouldn't suit the scene because the fight doesn't start immediately. Maybe a loud Ba-dooosh or something at the end would have been okay. But the "frog music" created suspension with a swift yet intense ending.

I still don't get it. If it's a memory of what he saw, that still means he SAW it. If he's "feeling it" that's just semantics, he still knows it's there. But being a Rinnegan user, why would he "feel" it and not "see" it?
Pain turning his back and mentioning the chakra was just to say "btw, I knew from the start, noobs".

Maybe he doesn't see chakra inside people, like with Kakashi. The Rinnegan is obviosuly different from the Sharingan and the Byakugan, as it couldn't see through Genjutsu either.

Superb episode, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Animation was pretty good, artwork was great, superb extensions of the manga with fillers, especially in Konan's case, she looked really strong. This makes it two times that the anime has pulled off making her look powerful and frightening. Pain's speech and Shinra Tensei build up was superbly shown.

My only complaint would be the actual Shinra Tensei was slow and dull, I imagined it having far more burst power and instant effect. I got the impression that the village was almost instantly blown away (http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/429/12-13/), while here it's like it's happening gradually and in slow motion. Pain's entrance in front of Tsunade wasn't like in the manga either (http://www.onemanga.com/Naruto/427/16/). I really wish they would keep to the manga material more consistently, sometimes it's good to expand, but his appearance was totally badass in the manga and shouldn't have been changed. It looked so dynamic in the manga, while it looked slow and slightly boring in the anime, even if it adds to Pain's "God" powers when he's just hovering down. Other than that I imagined another soundtrack when Naruto appeared, it didn't really fit but I'm okay with it. No soundtrack there would actually be a lot better.

Preview looks like shit, but I won't complain before I see the real deal. The animation in the actual fight might be a lot better. This week's "mediocre" team did very well, so I have hope.

They animated Pain himself nicely with the silhouette, but there was no "umph" put into the actual jutsu. When I read the manga I imagined more of a ka-boom sort of blast that blew up the town instantly. Not a reverse vacuum cleaner that started in the center of town and very slowly expanded and swept away the buildings. The effect they used here looked pretty lame as well.

The rest of the episode was good though. Nice animation, and I enjoyed the Konan part. But the Shinra Tensei was supposed to be the highlight of the episode, and en epic event in the series as a whole. And that's the part I feel they failed to capture.

Oh and the music (or sound effect) that played when Naruto showed up, I think it's the same thing that plays with Jiraya, but I would have preferred some actual music instead, or at least in the background.

Hmm, not sure I follow why there would need to be further action after the scene in the same episode. It's not unusual for a heroic insert theme to play at the end of one episode, only to begin the next with a gloomy one, and continue the battle.
It's easy to switch the mood for the next episode when it's done in this way (at the end of an episode) since they can start off the next one by playing a theme that will reflect the mood of what Naruto will feel when he sees all the destruction.

But the "success" in this case would be the arrival of Naruto who has perfected Sage mode in time to fight Pain in this moment of despair after Sakura cried out for him to return, even though Danzou killed the messenger to prevent him from returning. To the Konoha villagers, Naruto might as well have not shown up, as they had no idea what was keeping him, or that he was even supposed to come back. I was just hoping for a more dramatic entrance theme than the sound of a few sticks slapped together.

Look, it's simple. The manga shows that he sees the chakra. The anime shows it even clearer. There is no "it was never said or shown". The evidence is right there.

Yea, pressed was more in the right direction. Now that I think about it "strained" sounds even better. His body was strained because it takes a lot to pull it off and with that we would get the stutter in his voice. It obviously is a straining thing to pull off. Notice how all 6 pains can't be active because it just takes that much chakra and focus to pull off.

Because it's only 30 seconds... None of that material was used in the actual anime. This episode was ok.. but imo this is what all episodes should be like, it should just be standard. And for fights like now they should've gone with the team who did episode 82 and 85.
