View Full Version : Done Stumped again

I thought it would be best to ask instead of trying to guess on them myself because quite frankly, I can't even venture a guess on some of these.
Character 1:
Character 2:
I can get the first part okay but it's the reply that gets me. On a site it said that the mangaka had a good sense for gags (in regard to this bit of dialog) and I got all thrown off. I feel like I'm really missing something.
I think I'm wrong on this one with, "If it's in a small place indoors, with everyone working hard, we could catch him."
My guess was "Whether or not we know which direction he's going, he isn't really getting any closer."
How does に fit in there?
Slang gets me everytime.
See?
Maybe "I really saw it." and "I couldn't describe it."
Could this be "change their mind"? Am I wrong in thinking that?
SLANG :mad
Something like he hasn't really transferred yet?
Anyway, you have my never ending gratitude. Sorry for so many lines - I didn't realize there were that many. I've been getting better, I think, lately but damn if there aren't some that just stump the hell outta me.

"Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm alright, just damn pissed!"
I failed at translating gag and stuff, especially when there's no context other than the fact that you said it's supposed to be some kind of gag. :S

I think I'm wrong on this one with, "If it's in a small place indoors, with everyone working hard, we could catch him."
Don't think it's wrong though...I would translate it as "If it's indoor, where the place is small, we might be able to catch it if we all try hard together."... .-.
My guess was "Whether or not we know which direction he's going, he isn't really getting any closer."
向こう here would refer to the opposing party, aka "the other side" or "that person", which will make it something like "Dunno if that person/those people know(s) about it or not, but she/he/they do(es)n't come close me/us at all."

~に決まってる as a whole is an expression means "clearly; no doubt; surely" .-.

I'm not going to take the risk to translate this without the context. It's kind of ambiguous since we don't know what the guy did to the girl or vice versa, for the guy to say this line. However, the sense of it, assuming that I get the context right, is the guy who's saying this had been doing something for the girl from some particular reason, eg. an order from someone, though he was kind of looking down on her for some reason. What he's saying here is something like, "if it's not because of that particular reason, who would've done this for a bitch like you?" or something like that...I guess...-_-"

"Just how much do you think outsiders are looking down at us?", I guess...

Yep, you got these right..."I...I'm sure I looked at it pretty well..." "though I can't really draw it out..."

Could this be "change their mind"? Am I wrong in thinking that?
Might be, depending on the context...but yeah, it can be that, or "we're thinking differently then."

That's just perfect!
Something like he hasn't really transferred yet?
"But well, still have some time before I really get transferred though."
EDIT: And forgot one thing...next time, put your question with some kind of context for it. Translation isn't mathematics. You can't expect a single English sentence to fit with one Japanese phrase every time you see the phrase. Just putting the line you stumbled at will actually put off some translators who could've helped you, seriously, because we have to guess the context of your manga from these lines and you can't really blame us if it's incorrect because for some lines, the translation can change quite drastically depending on many things, for example the genre of the manga and such. I only give you my help, assuming that the context is whatever flashed into my mind when I read the sentence.

I am just fine to the extent that I am so mad.
...........................
If it is not the case
If it is not the case, WHO would do such a thing to a girl/woman like you!
........................
I...I was really watching....
He(?) did not draw my portrait though.
<Japanese for "I couldn't describe it." would be "描けなかったけれど" instead of "描かれなかったけれど。">

Ahhh, I'm really sorry /o\ I always forgot to include exactly WHAT'S happening because duh, people aren't mind-readers, self. I really am sorry about that.
That said, I think you helped me tremendously. I just needed a starting point for some of the sentences and I can get the general gist of what's being said.
Anyway, a bit of context:
そうでなければ誰が! てまえみたいな女なんかに!
The guy is pissed at the girl for beating up his fellow classmates and he can't really do anything about it, because she's a girl and he hit won't girls, mostly because he hates them with a fiery burning passion. She hasn't done anything directly to him, he's just super butthurt.
But thanks again for your help and your insight! I can't even express how appreciative I am (even though I didn't really do well on my end here).
