Just an update, but they've suspended development of FFXIII Versus for now. The team doing Versus is now working with the XIII team to get more work done on it. So yay for more delays~
Oh, and I'm waiting for Versus the most...

Haha, see, I wasn't ever really all that fond of VII, I mean, back in the day, I remember looking at the graphics and going 'wow, this is so real, this actually looks like a person!' Graphically speaking, beggars can't be choosers, but the rumors I kept hearing of a 'rerelease' of VII with better grapics sort of annoyed me.
For me, VIII was the first one I played through all the way (cue the sighs of disgust from fellow thread members) and therefore, it has the most nostalgic feel out of any Final Fantasy game for me.
Then came X, which really, I liked. It was the most imaginative so far, and regardless, I think it had a great story-line. X-2 is what ruined the whole name of FF in my opinion, however.
And now for a little history lesson! This may or may not be common knowledge among avid FF fans like yourselves, but I'm a firm believer that somehow, someway the separate story line are intricately tied together and overlap somehow.
This is just something I noticed, and then read an article on it, from over at daeya forums. Figured I would share and get everyone's input and opinions on it as well.:
As some fans of Final Fantasy VII, X and X-2 may or may not know, the worlds of the two games share a plot-related connection. The connection's existance was established during an interview with Yoshinori Kitase (lead developer of the Final Fantasy series) and Kazushige Nojima (the scenario writer of Final Fantasy VII, Before Crisis, Advent Children, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2 and the Kingdom Hearts series) in 2002, as featured in the Final Fantasy X Ultimania Omega guidebook, an official Square-Enix publication.
This interview established that there would be a connection between the two
worlds, though it didn't detail it. However, based on what was later revealed
to be the connection, it's clear that it had already been conceived, as
Kitase hints at it with his final word on the subject. In 2003, the exact
nature of the concept was finally revealed in the Final Fantasy X-2 Ultimania,
having been hinted toward by a few elements of the game.
Nojima revealed that Shinra of the Gullwings, an Al Bhed child prodigy and
inventor of various machinery, would attempt using the remains of Vegnagun --
the behemoth machina Shuyin tried to destroy Spira with -- to extract life
energy from the Farplane and use it to power machines. Shinra would attempt
doing this as a result of his analysis of the Farplane late in the game.
During this diagnostic, Shinra concluded that there was a great deal of energy
floating around inside the Farplane, and that it was most likely the life
force of Spira, which could be extracted and used as a power source; however, he concluded that it would take generations to properly implement the idea.
Further of note is that Nojima explained that the Al Bhed entrepeneur Rin also
was interested in extracting mako from the Farplane, and that he provided
Shinra with the funding to make the attempt. For his part, Rin's desire to do
this is revealed during the game should he be uncovered as the culprit behind
covering up the malfunctioning machina disaster on the Mi'hen Highroad.
Nojima went on to say that Shinra's attempts to use Vegnagun's remains failed and that he was unable to complete the concept of mako-extraction, just as Shinra had predicted. However, some 1000 years later, once space travel became possible, Shinra's descendants would go on a voyage to the world of Final Fantasy VII. There, at some point in the future, they would be successful in utilizing the concept, and would provide electricity from the Planet for a price; these descendants would found the Shin-Ra Company of Final Fantasy VII.
The connection would again be hinted toward in the Final Fantasy X-2:
International+Last Mission (released in 2004) game's Last Mission scenario, in
which Rikku revealed that Rin and Shinra had begun working together. Next,
the Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega guidebook (released in September, 2005) also brings forth mention of the concept, and, finally, the connection may have received further indication through Dirge of Cerberus (released in
January, 2006) and the Advent Children Reunion Files book (released in May,
2006), in which it is established that the Shera airship seen in Advent
Children and Dirge of Cerberus runs on ancient, lost non-mako technology that
Cid discovered. This technology very well may have originally belonged to
Shinra's descendants, as they are the only previous inhabitants of VII's world
indicated to have been in possession of advanced technology, and because the interior of the Shera bears some aesthetic resemblances to those of the
Fahrenheit and Celsius airships that figure prominently into FFX and FFX-2
(though the Shera's interior bears more of a resemblance to the Celsius').
In before 'old article is old' also. I know it's old, but I wanted to drag it up and get opinions.

At least Versus XIII, the one I was actually looking forward to, is still PS3 exclusive.
I almost died inside when I heard this announcement... Not because I don't want xboxers to get to play it, but because this game was bound to be great on 50 GB blu-ray and now I'm afraid it will just turn out to be mediocre due to the limitations of the DVD... unless they split it in 10 DVDs for the 360 version.

I don't think that will be about 10 dvds, my guess is at maximum 4 dvds, just like FF 8 and 9;

I don't see what Sony could possibly do to top this... but maybe I'm wrong and they will show something extraordinary. We'll know tomorrow.
Final Fantasy XIII is still a PS3-exclusive ... at least in Japan. According to Kotaku, Square Enix exec Shinji Hashimoto told reporters: "I think you are right [in assuming that (the Xbox 360 version) is not coming out in Japan.]" It will only appear on Xbox 360 in English-speaking territories.
In addition, Final Fantasy XIII will release in Japan first -- and then will be localized for the international audience. That means Japanese gamers will enjoy FFXIII on PS3 long before the rest of the world will see it go multiplatform. Hashimoto says that the Xbox 360's large install base in English territories is what led to the decision to make the game multiplatform. Because the decision was recent, there's no way of estimating how many discs the Xbox 360 version will be.
Also, Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still in development as a PS3 exclusive.

we can assume there MIGHT be a 2 different version for Final Fantasy XIII

They didn't. Rising costs in game development as well as the fact ps3 isn't doing to ho outside of Japan will have forced them to make that leap to shift units.

well if you believe that... I got a bridge to sell ya...
its not cheap to port a game over to another console. at the very least they are paying for that if not shaving points off of their cut.
But with that said... what the hell is Sony doing? The PS3 is an amazing piece of hardware and yet they seem to be kicking themselves in the ass left and right when it comes to it. We'll be lucky to see Home before 2010, not to mention they are still allowing game makers to make PS2 games in Japan... what a disaster they have become.

Hey man, don't forget that the game is still coming to the PS3!!!!!
This is basically what Microsoft has been doing since the beginning of this generation. Just saying "me too" all the time. Games such as Assassin's Creed, Resident Evil 5 and GTA IV were going to be PS3 exclusive but eventually MS paid the developers to get those games over to the 360.
Of course Sony has also been copying Xbox Live, with features such as trophies (achievements) and other stuff, and Sony also has gotten games that were supposed to be 360 exclusives such as Bioshock.
This only shows that we are reaching a point where 3rd party exclusives are becoming very rare. Development costs are so high that the only way to recoup the money is to develop for any console available.

I think the reaction is a bit over exaggerated, its not a 360 exclusive!!!!!! Also I think its a PS3 time d exclusive so thos ewith ps3 will have played the game quite before those on 360.
They said that the decision was new so I doubt 360 version will be ready in time at the same with the PS3 version.
I've also heard PS3 has a secret exlcusive on the works which some that know of the game are really excited.

actually SE said lunch date on both console will be the same which is why the game still doesn't have the lunch date yet (but since in Japan, only PS3 will have FFXIII so their lunch date might be earlier than NA)
i hope to see some new trailers and such for FF Versus XIII on today's Sony conference which is in about 6 hours XD because if they don't then only game right now that is worth buying for PS3 now is Killzone 2 and Tekken 6

Yes, I cannot understand it: true players must enjoy the games regardless the platform, but no, they're even thinking about suicide...
C'mon, games aren't real life, but some people are taking this subject too seriously, bashing others consoles because their favorite games aren't exclusive anymore...
LadyHatake
July 17, 2008, 10:06 AM
I think people are upset because it's kind of a "breached" tradition. FF has been on just PS platforms for so long, that it's become like a cult, and now that it's going to be opened up to xbox, people feel like they are being betrayed. Part of me is like, wtf? XBOX? D: And part of me is like "sweet, now I don't have to buy a PS3 >.>" It's like broken loyalty, I guess you could say. It's like your favorite football team lets an opposng teaam use an awesome player of theirs. If you get my drift...
Like I said, I'm a sony fan girl, but I have been disappointed with PS3 thus far. There's few good games for it; honestly, it's pretty much just a blu-ray player right now :/ (Actually, it's better than a number of actual blu-ray players on the market, though >.>) One of the reasons I couldn't decide which to get, XBOX or PS3, was because I wanted PS3 for FF, and XBOX for Live and all the awesome games. This kinda deletes my dilemma xD
My question, though, is anything going to be sacrificed as far as graphics and everything for XBOX? Because PS3 has the blu-ray/1080p deal, which is fucking neat, then that console will probably have the typical awesome graphics. Will xbox suffer any? Or does it have similar capabilities as far as that?
patedecarne
July 17, 2008, 10:18 AM
I don't think we'll see huge differences between the two version, aside the fact the game will come in about 4, 5 dvds for XBOX 360, which isn't a problem, if you ask me;
Regarding the graphics, probably they're be the same, IIRC, a guy from SquareEnix in an interview has said that the XBOX port won't suffer any disadvantage in comparison with the PS3 version, and if I'm not mistaken, 360 supports 1080p, at least mine has HDMI compatibility;
But some time in the past, Square did the same to Nintendo, when they announced FF7 for PLaystation 1; some players could feel a little betrayed, like you said, but with money, everything could happen in the games world;
OhDearMoshe
July 19, 2008, 07:23 PM
Can I just say
Lol at Final Fantasy being console exclusive. What a load of testicles is coming from the gaming community as a whole in regards to this reaction. People really do seemingly forget that FF started out on Nintendo. Not to mention all the other spin of games that have been released, and the remakes.
To be honest I think this is the best possible move for square. They are reaching more audiences as a whole I for one a huge fan of the series am glad because I sure as hell aint hauling out 400 big ones sterling just to play two games.
What I find really hilarious though. Is everyone who shelled out so much money for a ps3 just to buy the game is now regretting it immensely because they could have gotten the cheaper console.
If any of you are out there.

And to think I was going to get a PS3 in September... >_>
Mostly for Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm which looks beautiful, but now... ugh, I just don't know. If FF13 isn't going to be exclusive to PS3...
Heh, it's funny but Naruto may still determine me getting a PS3 in the end, since it's still PS3 exclusive. It was always going to be FF XIII though. xD

hehe yeah i was gonna buy PS3 when FFXIII comes out.(i waited to buy PS3 to hope that price goes down by the time FFXIII comes out)
but now that it's going to come out for Xbox 360, i don't know which console to buy anymore XD but currently i'm still thinking of buying PS3 because of FF Versus XIII; since Versus is still currently PS3 exclusive
and i'm also wondering if SE made a choice to make FF for Xbox 360 for more profit... then why not for PC??? any thoughts on this?
Gold Knight
July 19, 2008, 07:40 PM
Well, Sony did announce that they would reduce the price tag of the PS3 to $300 by year's end. So it might still pay off to wait. I'm probably going to go ahead and get it in September though since Storm is coming out in October, plus I'll only have to pay for half the price tag due to it being my birthday then.
I still plan to buy a Wii eventually as well, though. As for PC I'm not sure if my computer's graphics card could handle FF XIII xD
vintagemistakes
July 21, 2008, 11:48 PM
Did SquareEnix make the wrong decision in releasing FF XIII on both systems and not FF XIII Versus?
It would seem to me that Versus has the better chance of selling more units than the standard FF. Versus is supposed to have a gameplay system closer to that of Kingdom Hearts... which means more action based gameplay... while FF XIII is probably going to be more reminiscent of the standard turn-based RPG. There are a lot of people that don't like RPG's for the sole reason of the turn-based gameplay. They find them boring. I mean, If I was trying to make back more money, the logical choice would be to port the game that appeals to more gamers...
patedecarne
July 22, 2008, 07:19 AM
Yes, the turn based RPG is getting kind of repetitive, nowadays people are liking more dinamic RPGs; the turn Based was great in the past, but now that they were able to mix action paced on RPGs there's no to return to turn based;
That's why I like so much the Tales of series, it doesn't use turn based, but instead, seems that you are playing an action or even a fighting game;
And if they use a FF 12 refined style, I think everything will be okay;

Second comes FFTactics, then maybe FF7 - i cant decide which one i love most, 7,5 or 4.

My favourite FF, if not my favourite game ever, is FF6. The awesome cast of characters (and their development...Locke! Terra! Shadow! Setzer! <3), the giant plot twist, Kefka, the inside jokes, everything <3 I pray for a remake.
Thats what im talking about:amuse. FF6 story doesnt develop always around the main character (Terra) wich its great (i like the story of Shadow), not:notrust like FF8 and forward IMO its always about the main character.
For me the best story by far its FF7, even the prequels like Before Crisis, Crisis Core. It is sad:( that they didnt make a 2nd part of FF7, but at least we have the movie (Advent Children)that btw it was awesome(my favorite part its when Kadaj resurrect Sephiroth, great fight) and Dirge of Cerberus.

Second comes FFTactics, then maybe FF7 - i cant decide which one i love most, 7,5 or 4.
(ah, i love Vincent too sahu. <3)
Guess i'm just oldschool, i dont like the serious-oh-i'm-so-troubled kind of protagonists. That's one of the reasons that made me hate FF8 xD
But the Junctioning system was great! And SO unique! On top of that it tied in amazingly with the plot.
Furthermore, I found the weapon upgrading and draw magic systems refreshing.
VIII was great!

FF8 has its up and downs, one of the things that i didnt like was the draw magic systems. Its very tiresome:notrust u to have to draw magic until u reach 100, i mean everytime u fight a new monster have to draw magic for each damn:shakefist character.
If u start drawing magic since the very begining of the game and i mean the 1st time u get in combat keeping ur enemies alive until u reach the max (100) of the spell that the enemy have, u can get PWUP too fast and the game will get too damn easy:sleepy. I prefer the old fashion way, learning spell and keeping with the game with some dificulty:p.
What I did like was the mini card game, man i was addicted to that mini game:nuts. the GF system was kind of cool, i could do pushups with my thumb after that:p;).

Drawing 100 Ultimas one by one was one of the most annoying gaming experiences i've ever had....and it sucked, because you couldnt cast them if they were junctioned, or your status would go down in the middle of the fight....nice >.>
Agh, the giant GF sequences....dont even make me remember of that... ._____.
I hated the plot also...all the unbelievable coincidences, Squall and his "..." and all the shallow cast of characters...
And yep, my favourite part of FF8 was also the cardgame. When the best part of a RPG is the bonus minigame, you know it can't be a good thing ._.
I remember that i loved it when i played it for the first 5 hours - the graphics were awesome! Then I got used to them, and the game was just meh.

Final Fantasy Tactics is the best for me,
Good History, Good Characters, Good Drama, Good Fights and Strategy, a lot of combinations that u can do.
The problem is a grafic very much a mix of 2d with 3d, but for me the grafics are the less important.
What make me play final fantasy is the history and capacity to handle the players with more and more necessity to finish it and know what ill happen.
I really want someday they make another FF in the FFT style, but please don't compare it to FFT Advance because this game is very sux, uggly and not fun =P

Ah....i know, FFTA is not one of the best games, but it was a quite fun one. The plot was silly and childish, the law system is annoying....but the battles are still addictive, and the new jobs are nice ^^
I still have to play FFTA2 though, still didnt have time to try it...but i heard that it was better than the 1st one, so that's good. ^^;

^^ I haven't seen any from that mag. but, here (http://www.finalfantasyxiii.net/) are some from Chinese Famitsu that are relatively new. Apparently there are some new images in them too...
Both the regular version and versus look so awesome... I just wish they weren't so far away from being released. Hopefully when the Japanese version is released they put in and option for a English menu. That way we(PS3 owners) could at least import it and play it with a tad bit more ease... although, that's probably highly unlikely and just wishful thinking on my part..

Final Fantasy XIII - DK∑3713 Trailer (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/43656.html)
Final Fantasy Versus XIII - DK∑3713 Trailer (http://www.gametrailers.com/player/43655.html)
both games are visually turning out to be amazing.... at least cut scene wise. Although, I'm still annoyed that we haven't been shown any gameplay yet, we can't be too far away from seeing some since XIII has been confirmed(minus any delays) as a 2009(probably fall) release in Japan.
The two games also seem to be quite different from each other eventhough they're supposed to be taking place in the same universe. Most notably on the emotional value/themes that will be portrayed during the course of the game. XIII appears to be this extremely massive and worldly experience where Versus looks to be quite the opposite. A very lonely, isolated, and has somewhat of a desperate feeling to it... not to mention it has brooding Sasuke-ish looking/acting main character which goes perfectly with the nature of the trailer...

December 16, 2008, 06:45 AM
Both of the games seems to be really amazing, and I agree we need to see some gameplay, just to get the feeling of the action. The new emotional theme would suit well fot these games, as the last one was about war.
I believe Final Fantasies games are better portrayed with drama, like these ones, but of course the graphics help a lot on this aspec. Final Fantasy 7, for example, would be even better with facial expressions, even passing to us, gamers, the feelings. but with these brand new games I believe the graphics will be pushed to limits, just to pass all the feelings from the characters...

Oh man, I can't wait till Agito comes out, that looks sooo damn good, and also so worth buying a PSP for.
Versus is looking good as well, though I wouldn't be surprised if XIII and Versus are contrasting games, which bear some similarities, but have many differences which make them unique, and also opposites as well.
Overall, can't wait for more info about all three games, though I'm also waiting for Dissidia to come out as well.

I'm happy that it's coming to the 360, mainly because it makes the fanboys fight, Luckily I have both consoles so my only problem is deciding which one i want my final fantasy games on, although I'm leaning towards Xbox for 13 because I'm thinking that there will be some downloadable content that will remain exclusive to the 360.
vintagemistakes
February 23, 2009, 10:20 PM
^^If there is DLC, I don't see it being exclusive to one console... especially not the 360. FF XIII is a PS3 exclusive in Japan and if SquareEnix ever released exclusive DLC on a version they couldn't get - there would be monumental outrage.

February 24, 2009, 06:42 AM
I got my PS3 when it was first released, so I'm not riding the whole "I WAS GONNA BUY THE PS3 FOR FF13" bandwagon like the rest of the folks around the world.
You do not buy a console for a single game. You buy it to enjoy your free time by playing different games. Extra features are... well, just exactly what they are. Extras.
Anyways, SE can do whatever they like, as long as they make good games. The moment their games stop being good, I wouldn't be willing to even spend money on their games. Even if they ARE highly acclaimed titles. Like Star Ocean. Oh my did they screw that game up hard after the Second Story. LOL 4th dimension.
patedecarne
February 24, 2009, 11:42 AM
Well, actually I don't care for the DLC, IMO, the DLC options is the worst decision they vahe made so far, they just cut off the game just to sell pieces of it later, it's the cancer of the new generation, afff...
I'll stick with the main game though , it's not like I'll buy the pieces of the same game just to give extra money for the softhouses...
Triple_Platinum
February 24, 2009, 07:15 PM
^
There's cases where the actual DLCs are worth spending money on though.
Like say on Valkyria Chronicle. In the main game, you NEVER get to control a valkyrie, which pissed off numerous gamers. When the DLC was announced and released, we got our fix of Selvaria (a valkyrie) and a side story arc featuring Edy ACTUALLY SPEAKING TO SOMEONE IN THE MAIN CAST (Recruit characters have never been able to interact with the main cast for some reason in the main game, up until now).
The other game extra DLCs on the other hand (where it's just extra maps, extra costumes, music, and extra weapons) are what's really pointless.
vintagemistakes
February 25, 2009, 05:26 PM
^^ I would fully agree. In certain instances, DLC maybe worth it e.g. GTAIV while in others its definitely not worth it, e.g. SFIV's extra costumes.
FF seems to be in the middle of those circumstances IMO. The only thing that they could really give us is extra boss fights. SE seems to release a game in Japan and then release it in the U.S.(with extras) only then to rerelase it in Japan with the American extras + Japanese extras and than re-release it in the U.S with everything..
So, Is it worth it? I don't know, but its better than having to spend $50-$60 on a final mix version or something like they did in the Kingdom Hearts series.

By sheer, one might say dumb luck, I just caught a live stream of someone(esegk) playing the FFXIII demo on justin.tv
I saw the last 10 or so minutes of it.
Overall: Looked good. Voice acting sounded good from what I could tell.
The gameplay reminded me of the beginning of FFX, when you were in Zanarkand; how you could see the enemies(sin spawns I believe they were called), but it wasn't until you basically touched them that you were taken into the battle system by a neat little screen effect.
Other than that, I really can't think of anything else to say about it... The Demo is officially released in 2(?) days, so I'm sure there will be a ton of videos uploaded very soon.
Edit: Oh, and at the end it had a nice little "Thank you for playing screen" with Winter of 2009 written on it

Great news, either way, to hear and see more information. It means the game's well on its way, at least. And to be honest, I'm somewhat glad it's taken this long. I definitely want to upgrade my "entertainment center" before it comes out. Time to go HDTV hunting!
Thanks vintagemistakes for all the information.
I've put all the info so far about FF XIII in the first post.

Would the gameplay of Final Fantasy XIII be similar to Final Fantasy XII? To be honest, FFXII has had the best gameplay system then any other FF. Much easier to handle..so will it?

Bored and at work so I'll answer these questions...
1)FF7... It was the first FF game I played and it really revolutionized the genre/ my expectaions of games. Sidenote: Lunar the Silver Star and Lunar Eteranl Blue are still the best RPG's ever made(both Sega CD version).
2) since favorite villain is the next question I wont use that as a answer... but, I think I'll go with Celes. Reason: got non, but I know a lot of people hate dislike her so I'll go with her.... In actuality, I really don't have a favorite character... I'm pretty indifferent when it comes to that.
3)Sephiroth... he was just a badass.
4)tough to say... I've always thought of them as overrated spells... so, I never really used any during the game.
5) By hours: FFXII. By times through FFVII.
6)It wasn't really hard but time consuming... and that was getting the "ultimate" items in FFXII. You could spend hrs going back and forth trying to get one chest to grant you a weapon or spend hrs chaining monsters so you could get an item in order to sell it so you could than buy it....
7)Aerith's death... I don't mean to get all sappy, but I've never witnessed something like that in my gaming life before. It brought tears to my eyes... I didn't cry though, only watery eyes.... it was truly a amazing and breathtaking moment.
8)FFVII
9) Don't have a #1 game, but I like the variety in FFVII. I've always felt that FFXII lacked minigames and they blew the perfect opportunity to give the player a cheesy flying game.
10) ... never thought about it. either Celes, Ashe or or Aerith... Aerith kinda reminded me of Lacus from Gundam Seed. I don't know why, but I kinda had a thing for her.

1) Final Fantasy XII, the best RPG game ever and overall the game is brilliant.
2) Hmm, favourite character has to be Basch. Cool, strong, good storyline from his character and his quickenings are awesome.
3) Yaizamat ( The Last hunt in FFXII). Took me 2 and a half hours to kill this guy..you guys should face him one day. One tough nut to crack he is.
4) Zodiark
5) Final Fantasy XII, replyed it again to get the Zodiac Spear.
6) Toughest challenge is Yaizamat. First it was Omega Mark XII, but when facing Yaizamat after, he is nothing.
7) The ending. When Vayne is defeated.
8) A sequel to FFXII
9) Not sure.
10) I'd date Ashe, if it were possible. LOL

What Graphics, huh? From what we have seen so far, possibly the best visuals, even better than KZ2.
And this time seems we'll have the world map to fully explore (Good old days of FF 7, with the wide variety of places to explore).
The problem is the waiting, for us, a XBOX 360 owner, until middle's 2010 to play the game...
But I'm considering a play 3 because of Versus: Final Fantasy + real time attack = flawless victory, just look at Star Ocean 4 and Tales of Vesperia, the RTA is excellent in both of games, and with versus I believe it'll be even better.

There is going to be a FFXIII game for the PSP as well, it isn't going to be a sequel or a prequel, just based in the same fantasy. Versus is exclusive for the PS3, YES! The playable character in Versus looks cool, I think he is the male version of the playable character in FFXIII Lightening.

There are three FF XIII games coming out: FF XIII(PS3 & X360), FF Versus XIII(PS3), and FF Agito XIII(PSP). All three are supposed to be set in the same Universe but different time periods I think. Indeed...i wonder how are they going to do it.
Oh man, that is some funny stuff. I'm sure that it's not the case. I'm sure that SE might make optimizations to the 360 version. Don't know whether that will be good or not.
[hr]
1) What's your favorite Final Fantasy game?
I would have to say FFVI. It was funny and dramatic. I hope that SE remake it into 3D because it deserves it. Additionally, I think that FFVI was the culmination of what was the best in the previous FF games and a platform for the later FF games. A very pivotal FF game in my regards.
2) Favorite character?
This is a toughy. I think possibly Laguna from FFVIII. Zack was very cool also.
3) Favorite villain?
I would have to say Kefka hands down flat! This guy was a psycho from the start til the end. When he came down as an angelic being with the same face, it was just beautifully funny. Also, this was also one villian that truly became a god and succeeded in decimated the whole world. Not to mention that he has an unforgettable laugh and theme song.
4) Favorite summon?
Crusader from FFVI. Knights of the Round Table (FFVII) was pretty awesome also.
5) Which game have you replayed the most?
Possibly FFVI.
6) What was the toughest challenge you ever had in a FF game?
Finding and defeating the extra side boss which sometimes prove to be much harder than the actual main boss themselves i.e. Omega Weapon (FFVIII) and Ozma (FFIX).
7) What was your favorite clip in the games?
The most memorable scene was when Garnett was climbing up a ladder with Zidane following and Zidane grabbed hold of Garnett's ass. I loved how Zidane showed off his excited pervertedness.
Honorable mentions: When Squall saved Rinoa right after being scolded by everyone and the ending of FFX when Tidus left his friends and Yuna.
8) If you would like to see a sequel to any of the games, which would it be?
It's not really a sequel but prequel of Final Fantasy VIII of Laguna. Since FFVII had a prequel about Zack, one about Laguna would be fitting. I would also like to see a sequel to FFVI in a world without "magic."
9) What side-game do you like the most?
Blitzball FTW! SE could have easily made another whole separate game just for blitzball.
10) If you could date a FF character, who would it be? Haha...
Tina or that white mage woman from FF I.

Not the exact game it's part of one story which all the FFXIII games are centred. They woud have shared themes and myths, but different storylines. Fabula Nova Crystallis Final, the name of the series surrounding the 3 games, FFXIII, FF Versus XIII and FFXIII Agito.
The game play is going to be similar to Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, but will allow control over multiple characters.

Final Fantasy fans have a lot to look forward come the warmer weather in 2010. In a gathering at GamesCom, Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase stated that the North American and European versions of FFXIII would arrive simultaneously in spring 2010 where as the Japanese version will see store shelves winter 2010.
More good news comes via Kitase’s recent interview with 1UP (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3175677) where he estimated that the North America Xbox 360 version was 70% done and the Japanese PS3 version was 90% done. Why is this good news? Well, with the game that close to completion the odds of a delay look slim. That’s one more awesome game due for the first half of 2010, when wallets everywhere will be taking major losses to their HPs.

Well look at it this way. Final Fantasy XII took 5 years until it came out on the PS2 and look how good it was...it was revied 10/10 for everything. It was official PS2 game of the year 2008. The sales were huge...
It's reasonable that Final Fantasy XIII will take 4 years to come out, the games are getting better and better. Sometimes just 1 game can make a lot of sales rather then let's say 2 or 3 mini games. ;)

From what I've heard, it's linear until halfway of the main plot. After that, things are more like open world.
Not to mention many people out there are just the first opportunity to criticize FF, given the fact these people doesn't like JRPGs.
From others reviews, people are saying this game will make you feel like playing a super nes FF, and that's only great.

Well its true that bad reviews aren't necessarily a bad thing. If anything they drive your expectations for a game down. Which only leads to you enjoying a game that much more. But the idea that for the first 20 hrs of the game you are basically pushing the analogue stick forward the entire time is a tad bit troublesome. Thats a ton of hrs that you have to endure before the game opens up. Not to mention that that say you can only control one character at a time in battles and that the game dictates which character you control. I don't know if I like that...

Those who want to know whats in the Collectors Edition
Today Square Enix announced its plans for a Collector's Edition of the game for PAL territories (although pricing and other region were not mentioned) which is set to storm into stores on March 9th this year.
The Final Fantasy XIII Collector's Edition will contain the following.
The Final Fantasy XIII game (publisher still mention the game as part of the contents?);
Final Fantasy XIII Original Sound Selection - an exclusive soundtrack CD featuring in-game music tracks especially chosen for the Limited Collector’s Edition by composer Masashi Hamauzu;
The World of Final Fantasy XIII – a hardback book featuring character artwork, CG rendered artwork and environments from across the game’s production;
Exclusive Art Prints - three highly collectable prints showing artwork of the Eidolons, the powerful summoned allies of the lead playable characters;
A Unique ‘Brand of the l’Cie’ decal – a collectible decal featuring the most iconic symbol from the game’s storyline.
The "Limited" Collector’s Edition will be available in a branded presentation box.
A simple offering of art and music and the interesting addition of a collectible decal (is that a first?), all of which can be found in the picture below.
Final Fantasy XIII is out worldwide on March 9th.

Don't expect a FFVII remake anytime soon...according to FFXII producer, Yoshinori Kitase, it would take 30-40 years (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/05/30/versus_xiii_and_ffvii_remake/) to develop. >.>
The staff was asked its usual question about a Final Fantasy VII remake. Kitase responded: "We've gotten this question a lot from many countries (laughs). To make FFXIII at this level of quality, it took us 3 to 4 years. If we were to make FFVII in the same style of FFXIII, it would take 10 times as long, so it would be difficult to take it up immediately. However, we always keep in mind how often this is requested."

(some spoilers ahead but no point in tabbing it)
Final Fantasy X did not have a overworld map and so XII as well
it was just pick a location and go FFXIII had a lot capabilities to return to cities ,and have similar format to X or XII , but the plot (there fugitives and hated by everyone by the way doesnt help matters.) and the lack of a reason to return to the cities are the in-game reason why we dont return to the cities in XIII (but it makes you feel lonely ...in the game ...seriously)
At the end of the game you are given an option to move around Pulse (where you visited), and talk to to stones (cieth stones ..) that took place as people . but in other parts of the game there were citizens that walked around in the populated areas and say two or three lines like the other FF random people did. So there shouldn't of had been much of a problem to have cities you can revisit in any of the next game
Also FFX was linear and XIII was more so , it didnt have the illusion of choice which the other FF's had but if you think about the other FF they were all Linear and the Plot tells you where to go and you have almost no choice but to complete it to go on
Anyways FFXIIIversus should be out by next year , they been developing long enough there is no reason to span the time to three years. IF Square Enix cant adapt to the changing times than too bad there not going to make it for much longer.

Finally some FFXIII VS info (http://www.siliconera.com/2010/06/23/final-fantasy-versus-xiii-has-an-open-field-with-roaming-monsters/)!
Nomura said that the game will have an open world, the battles and the world will be seamless, there will be destructible objects, and a fight scene that is based off a gas station.

Thanks Riki! Finally some actual info for us. That seems really interesting. I wonder if it will be like grand theft auto but FF style since we can now drive cars through an open world :XD. I guess we don't have any more new about the airship though :XD. (inside joke with Riki :p)

Open world?
Then don't expect this game before 2014, 2015. The regular FF 13 doesn't have a solid open world and cities, and just look the time spent on its development. I really wanted to play this FF asap, but I don't think it'll be possible...

This blog (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/06/23/nomura_on_ff_versus_xiii/) has more details about the Famitsu article. Nomura also mentioned that they are preparing to make a big announcement. I wonder what it could be? I highly doubt it would be the release date. >.>
[hr]
FFXIII VS story has been finalized (http://kotaku.com/5575225/final-fantasy-versus-xiii-story-finalized).
In an interview in the recent issue of Dengeki magazine, it was revealed that the scenario for the game is apparently fleshed out and finalized. This actually shouldn't come as a surprise as the details of the story aren't the heavy lifting, but rather, the actual game programming.
The character designs have also been finalized, and the clothing designs are finished.

Another FFXIII VS update (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/08/09/versus_xiii_voice_recording/). I copied and pasted the important parts:
Regarding Versus, he said, "Versus has had many difficulties, and past method of production have been completely inapplicable, but these are the difficulties of birth, so we are working hard. We have a lot to announce, but because we're going in order, I can't say too much yet."
Continuing on Versus, Nomura added, "There have been many questions regarding fields. It's not a completely open world. It's like the 2D FF games in HD. Although, in terms of looks, it's not a top-down view, it's like the screenshots that have been released. You'll move through the world from that view."
The screenshots Nomura is referring to were first shared in Dengeki PlayStation and Famitsu in late June. They depict the action from a third person view, behind-the-back of main character Noctis.
Nomura also touched briefly upon development progress for both Agito and Versus. "Agito and Versus have different production styles and progress states, but they're both presently undergoing voice casting. 3rd's recording will end shortly. Next up is Agito."
[hr]
A little snippet (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/08/15/nomura_3rd_birthday_twitter/) about the game technology:
Related to the advancing technology discussion, Nomura wrote a bit about Final Fantasy Versus XIII. He was recently shown a movie sequence from the game and was surprised to see that that the movies have reached a whole new level beyond what's been shown thus far. "The in-game areas are advancing in a variety of ways, but definitely look forward to the advancing video work of our own Visual Works as well. It's like real footage."
[hr]
Nomura reveals his plans for Versus and Agito for TGS (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/08/26/nomura_tgs_showing/). I guess he'll combine footages from both games into one video.
In other news, it has been confirmed (http://www.siliconera.com/2010/08/26/final-fantasy-versus-xiii-may-not-make-it-out-in-2011/) that Versus will not be out in 2011... obviously.

Hajime Tabata tweeted (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/09/01/tabata_tweets/) some more info.
- Agito will enter its completion phrase after The 3rd Birthday is complete. The event scenes are not finished yet but the real-time components are coming along. As for the TGS PV:
Agito will appear at TGS as well, although only in PV form. This trailer, Tabata said, is extremely short, but he feels frame by frame it's well done.
- Habata hinted about Versus's TGS PV:
Tabata brought up Final Fantasy Versus XIII in his next Tweet: "On that note, Versus. That scene in the PV. I think it will make you shake."
Luckily, it looks like Square Enix is thinking about uploading the PVs online (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/08/30/nomura_tgs_trailers/) so we can see it.
[hr]
Nomura made an interesting tweet (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/09/08/nomura_versus_xiii_tweet/):
Wrote the Versus XIII director at The 3rd Birthday Twitter: "Multiplatform is when you start development on a game with the assumption of optimizing for multiple platforms. Porting is something that's done after you've developed a game specifically for a particular platforms. The debate over porting is decided by the management based off the current market and the costs. All I can say right now as a developer is that Versus is being developed specifically for the PlayStation 3."

According to Andriasang (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/09/08/dissidia_ff_sequel/), the game will be called Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy and two new characters are Lightning (XIII) and Kain (IV). There might be a demo at TGS as well.
[hr]
Some screenshots (http://www.siliconera.com/2010/09/13/first-dissidia-duodecim-final-fantasy-screenshots-with-kain-and-lightning/) for Dissida Duodecim have been posted. It looks like Cecil and Garland will be back for the game.
There will also be new (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/09/13/dissidia_teaser_site/) maps, new BGM, new battle system elements, and an improved communication system.

More DD FF info (http://www.siliconera.com/2010/09/15/dissidia-duodecim-final-fantasy-adds-assist-attacks-lightning-uses-paradigm-shifts/). It's mostly about game play (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/09/15/dissidia_control_chart/), which includes assist attacks but it also reveals other returning characters"
* FFXIII Lightning (Assist: Warrior of Light)
* FFIV Kain (Assist: Cecil)
* FF Warrior of Light (Assist: Tidus)
* FFVI Tina (Assist: Onion Knight)
* FFVII Cloud (Assist Sephiroth)
* FFIX Kuja (Assist Zidan)

13 was good...combat is dull at begninng but soon as get to Jurassic Park (Gran Pulse) the game gets more exciting...the ending was fail...predictable n so short..the intro was longer..i miss the old FF days where you expect a main character to die any point in story now FF doesnt seem to try to shock anymore.
versus looks promising altho the trailer is what seen before n was pointless showing it a TGS..il wait til 11 jan now for there conferance for better details..at moment it seems it could be a FF8 beater..the main hero looks cool as squall.
rather have Cid or Vincent from FF7 but Tifa only there for the fanboys

Nomura tweeted more FFXIII VS info (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/09/29/nomura_ffvxiii_twitter/):
Wrote Nomura, "Yesterday, we had meetings about three sections -- maps, events and battles. For the map section, I checked the problem areas that had been fixed. The staff had gone beyond the requests and and filled them with playful elements. I put in orders for additional areas as well."
Nomura's got a bit specific about what he was checking on the maps:
* The look of a forest that you can see once you've cleared a narrow mountain path.
* Things that are required when leaving the city by moving on the roofs of buildings.
* The positioning of the bookshelves in shops
* How flags are standing
* How the sea is handled on the world map
* The roads you can see from the air ship
* The length of bridges
Regarding events, Nomura said he can't say too much without providing spoilers. He's checking such things as:
* The look on a character during a short cut in a scene where he or she is leaving.
* Explanation of a fathers feelings during a conversation scene.
* The areas that they want to have connected seamlessly, and the areas that they want to connect via cuts.
* Explanations about the heroines movements.
For both of these areas, Nomura was attempting to convey that the check work goes down to detailed levels.
Regarding battles, Nomura checked up on menu areas yesterday. "We're doing lots of trial and error on this. When you say Final Fantasy, you think of enemy damage figures flying out and showing player HP. What will we do with these in the action-heavy Versus?"
He also mentioned that the staff is considering a twitter account for this game and Agito.

Producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Motomu Toriyama hinted that there might be a FF XIII-2 game in an interview (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/10/04/ffxiii_ultima_interview/). They also discussed about DLC problems (they couldn't do any due to the different game consoles and how they work) and future developments.

Square Enix USA has translated the TGS trailer (http://www.siliconera.com/2010/10/07/square-enix-quickly-subtitles-dissidia-012duodecim-final-fantasy-tgs-trailer/) for Dissidia 012.
[hr]
The TGS trailer (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/tgs-10-final-fantasy/705843) for Agito and XIII VS is up. Agito looks pretty intriguing.
[hr]
Nomura answered (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/10/09/nomura_on_ffvsxiii_trailer/) some questions about XIII VS TGS Trailer.
The opening sequence of the Versus trailer which shows a close-up of main character Noctis is part of a pre-rendered movie, said Nomura. Everything else is real time footage of the game being actually controlled.
Regarding the sequences showing Noctis running about, Nomura said that you can traverse these areas on foot as shown in the trailer, but he believes most people will opt for transportation via car.
Regarding the ending battle sequence with the giant behemoth, Nomura said that they slowed the speed down just a bit from the real thing. The reason for this is that Noctis' speed is actually so fast that you can't see him clearly.
[hr]
Vaan's seiyuu mentioned about voicing the character (http://www.siliconera.com/2010/10/13/vaans-japanese-voice-actor-mentions-new-voice-work-too/) again - is this a hint that Vaan will be in Dissida 012?
Speaking of Dissidia, Tifa's alt. costume will be her Advent Children (http://www.siliconera.com/2010/10/13/tifa-dresses-up-in-her-advent-children-costume-for-dissidia-012duodecim/) one. Interestingly, she also doesn't recognize Cloud either.
[hr]
The developers of FFXIII discussed what they think went wrong with the game. They believed it's because the team did not have a shared vision (http://www.siliconera.com/2010/10/14/the-shared-vision-of-final-fantasy-xiii/) of what the game should be.
More Dissidia 012 updates (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/10/16/dissidia_update/). The characters will have a third alternate costumes called Third Form.
Cloud's Third Form costume is a design from Yoshitaka Amano. Cecil wears a white costume that comes from the DS remake of Final Fantasy IV. Golbez sports his Final Fantasy IV The After look. Sephiroth's Third Form appears to be his unaltered FFVII costume.
You can see their third costumes here (http://www.siliconera.com/2010/10/18/see-cloud-and-cecils-dissidia-012duodecim-final-fantasys-third-forms/).
They also discuss more info about the Assist Moves system.
[hr]
The US localization (http://www.siliconera.com/2010/10/19/dissidia-012duodecim-final-fantasy-localization-already-in-progress/) of Dissidia 012 is already in progress.
[hr]
More info (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/10/21/dissidia_new_gameplay_systems/) about Dissidia 012. There will be 4-10 new characters (http://www.siliconera.com/2010/10/19/dissidia-012duodecim-final-fantasy-has-between-4-10-new-characters/) in the game.

I also read that the maker of the game actually thought that was the version which most resembles what he thinks is an ideal FF game (wikipedia though) and that is the game he would like to make a sequel for the most. I don't remember FFIX that well but I can tell you that I wasn't a big fan of it. I've only played it once and that was when it first came out. So its been a while and could be just that, but something in it made me never to want to play that game again. It could be the fact that the main character had a tail or that it really was a homage to the old games... and after VII and VIII felt like a let down, I think?

First off: sorry for beeing late :darn... For me FFIX was one of the best FF games i played so far and imo it also remsembles an ideal FF game. Maybe because i'd choose Fantasy over Steampunk if i have the choice. But it's maybe the only FF game where i really like every playable char without restriction of any kind ( ok maybe Quina a tiny little bit for beeing erm mentaly out of the world ...). Even the whole cast of antagonist, even if kuja was a shot to continue Sephiroth's legacy. ( i just tend to eraise Queen Brahne from my memory!!!)
The whole Setting, with it's architecure and level/city design was fabulous and never out of the picture imo. And a nother nearly perfected cast were the eidolons. Just a few but a great selenction of those and up till now, Ark is still optically my favorite. Plus Madeen was obviously the answer to the fan protests, why greever wasn't a gf imo! well before i spam more im sum it up: i adore FFIX and its in my top 3 ff fav's.

Even if he'd get a UK-version he would still be stuck with the game in his rack, because of the PAL norm. The result might be, that buying a great in shape vintage version isn't much more expensive then finding a us store who'll still insert regional code/norm free chips. I even dunno if this was in any way famous in the us as it was in europe, because of the lack of released games here?!
P.S.: Modding a us Psx to be able to play PAL games might be a first anyway and does it even work to convert the higher PAL solution to NTSC? I mean if the game was really adjusted to PAL it should cause seriously problems even with an adapter...

^Well, I intent to play on my computer for the most part so I don't care if I just download it. As long as I can play it on my computer anything is good for me. I think downloads are only for PS3 and PSP though.

I really liked eidolons in FFIX though. I was really hooked with those. Only thing I disliked was that using them to their full potential took some time to say the least. Gathering all those pesky stones took too long. I gathered most of them except the leviathan one, gathering 400 ores just for that actually bored me. I stopped caring for vivi halfway through the game though. I liked the fact that he had a variety of attacks but as the game advanced even the supposedly high level spells lost purpose. Doomsday was good but setting everything so that characters don't die from it was too troublesome. In the end I could easily replace vivi with garnet(seriously, all elemental advantages and decent healing along with arc). I did like combining auto repel with vivi's spells though, I was doing 9999 damage by disc two lol (the combination loses purpose when other characters can do that kind of damage without the hassle). Steiner was always in my team too, climhazzard and shock just pawned. I never really did have a team which I preferred over others(I just disliked vivi lol). It is a bit of a pain to have learn spells but I did find her to be useful mid game. The awkward but varied number of spells is useful. I used mighty guard rather often too, one of the best spells in the game IMO. I stopped using her when I started to focus on getting 9999 damage on all attacks though, I never went through the trouble of getting all the frogs for frog drop. In my mid game I hated freya. Her spells are rather useless in the mid game and jump did nothing. I only really started using her for her best attack which always does 9999 after killing enough dragons. The only redeeming feature I found in zidane was that I always managed to get the good weapons for him very early. In that sense, even his normal attack was ok. Thievery was epic once I got it to the magic number though. I liked amarant, his abilities were always useful and I recall one of them did generally get 9999 damage but for some reason I could never get fit him into my party...
[hr]
Ok, I have been playing final fantasy 8 for a while and I get the impression I am doing something HORRIBLY wrong. I was watching a video of a fight against norg and I noticed significant differences between my characters and those in the video. Most significant, the characters in the game had between 3 and 4 more hp than mine. The squall I have has around 1200 hp while in the video he had around 4000.... Also the attack command. Squall in video could cause damage of over 400 regularly while the one I use barely reaches 120. Zell could do up to 700 with a critical and I barely do 200. In the video the guy could actually do something without the guardian forces while in turn I can't do crap without them for the most part. I honestly have pulled through my battles thanks to those lol. I get the impression I am not using the junction system all that well. I also barely find any use for the magics, summons work THAT much better....
One of the things which I don't like about characters in FFXIII is that I don't see any distinction between them. Limit breaks are different but is that that important? I actually avoid being that low in hp during battle so I never really get to use them. Every character can have any summon and use any magic in the most indiscriminate way. Am I missing something? Even though limit breaks are drastically different between characters, they don't seem important enough for me to consider choosing a character over another. I know these things are balanced out so that the main thing to consider is subjective but as much as I try I see no difference between zelphie, squall, zell, irvine, and so on. Junction some stuff and they are all clones with the exact same abilities. Seriously, should I give that much consideration to the limit breaks? Quite frankly, the only thought I have given to character selection is on which I get the best compatibility for guardian spirits and thus the most damage.
Magic is another thing. Do I need it? I am halfway through game two and I have yet to have any strategic need of it. Summons have done an overwhelmingly superior job so far. It's not like I have not tried bio, firaga, thundaga and a number of other crap. I have yet to tried ultima (which I just acquired) but unless I invariably get 5000 damage out of it I see no reason for it to be more relevant than summons. Spells take less time than summons to perform but in turn summons deal enough damage for them to actually save time in the long run.
Maybe I got too used to final fantasy IX though? When I played that game I actually gave a lot of thought about which party to use. Each character had actual unique abilities and traits I could exploit in specific battles. I even recall times when the unanimously hated quina proved to be extremely useful at least.
Seriously, what am I missing here? Why is it that a game which is supposed to involve actual strategy from players seem to have characters with no virtual difference and can be tanked through with the same spells? It's not like I have over trained for fights considering that if I level up enemies also do. Why is it that the attack command seems terminally useless, limit breaks serve no purpose whatsoever and there seems to be no difference between characters other than the model? WHAT AM I MISSING?

ok il help with ff8
Junction is the key thing..it only thing you need magic for...i have completed ff8 as a lvl12party.
ulitma junction to elmental def 100 will absorb ALL magic.
in disc 1 you can boost hp by water which can refine from Fish fins from the fish enemies outside garden. also works good to str junction.
ok limit break cheat...have attach water to hp...squall should have bout 3000+ hp ..now when it gets to 1000 it be yellow..keep pressing O button and limit break will appear ...spam it squall has most dangerous limit (if you get lionheart it will destroy anything it does more damage then a lvl100 cloud omnislash in ff7) next to quistis and zell.
you dont need magic of gf in ff8 attack is winnable ..
Squall is most usefull has he has a 220% hit rate from start so he never misses even when blind (dont forget use gunblade trigger R1 before he hits). GF boost (hold select during the attack spamm square button).
it even possible via card game to get the ultimate weapons by end of disc 1

I have been getting a better hang of the junctions now, things are looking less brim (except for the fact that my characters might have too much level lol). Water did not give anything near the HP you mentioned though. Still though, I get the impression there is no real difference between characters for the most part, everyone can learn anything...

a good tatic that might sound crazy is with zell
cast haste, protect, shell, berserk and ZOMBIE
zombie in ff8 adds def and berserk boosts attack he be a beast in battles . ( to bypass the healing magic hurts zombie attach a magic like fire to his def so he absorbs it then cast fire on him to heal him)
water only makes a differance it seems at start of game then but it good to attach to other stats.
a good way to win is attach death to status attack 100 death = 100% death strike on most enemies lvl up a breeze.

Interesting. My main issue before was that I did not quite get the whole junction thing. Now I have a better understanding of the whole thing lol. I think I will just start the game over so as do everything a bit better with better junctions... I could do it now but I'd have to do it all at once rather than gradually and that would kinda be a pain lol. I tried the death thing but I hardly got one hit deaths. Dunno why it does not work (I do have 100 deaths BTW).

just experiment alot with junction..alot people moaned that ff8 didnt have alot of expermination like ff7 materia but i find it is quite deep.
strange the death trick should work.
a good way get high tier magic is the card game...quezacatil (or the thunder bird) has card - refine abilty to learn which gets good items.
to get AP so gf learn abiltys is the beach on balamb garden island..bout 10ap a battle.

I already started experimenting with junction.... I decided to start the game again though, this time I am going to read stuff. Hopefully this time I won't miss little details due to not reading. I also missed siren so I thought I'd get that. I also want to avoid leveling up too much, I had to many levels which I think complicates the game.

Unfortunately, leveling up in FF8 is not recommended, right? The more you level up, the same goes for your opponent. When I was in disc 3 (eight years ago, I can't remember too well), I can't seem to defeat Ultima Weapon because my level was over level 80. I had to restart the game with lower levels and luckily I managed to finish the game.
I guess, the sole thing that will keep the level of the game in playing field is the junction option. Even if you have a low level, you can make your character powerful by junction-ing powerful magic (like Death as Hystzen mentioned).

I'm feeling positive about it. The haters came out in droves for Final Fantasy XIII but I very much enjoyed it. Looking at the game by itself a sequel couldn't hurt. My only concern would be how it effects the emotional congruity of the Fabula Nova Crystalis project. Nomura stated that all three games in the project would be something of an overarching tragedy. Of course that was while XIII was still in the making but the game definitely gave you a sense of hopelessness. A XIII sequel isn't bad so long as it stays in line with the emotion that the other games in the project created.
I would suggest NPC interaction, more diverse sidequests, and towns.
News of a XIII sequel is well and good but I'd be more interested in getting a release date for VERSUS XIII. I'd like Square-Enix to make that fantasy come true.

I recently finished final fantasy VIII lol. I read a lot about ultimecia being one of the hardest bosses ever but I don't see how that can be lol. I fought her but it was a bit easy to say the least. Perhaps I should have leveled up to 100 and then fight her lol. Anyways, I am going through the game again (I want that shockwave pulsar for quistis) so perhaps I will level up for the sake of making the game a bit more interesting.

I'm with you on that one. Different gamers have different levels of skill. I heard a lot of people say that VIII was difficult but to me, the GFs made that game little more than an exercise. Don't get me wrong FFVIII is great. One of my all-time favs. Difficult it was not.
Now Final Fantasy Tactics, THAT $#!* was hard. :blink I don't mean the little remake for the PSP I mean the original PS title. That was a nightmare. I like my games difficult so I had a blast.

Yeah lol.... for me it got easy once I got the junction system. Now every time I see a spell I spend a decent amount of time getting 300 of it. Now I somehow ended up with demi, quake and a bunch of holys by the end of disk one. I actually had to heal seifer in order to not outright murder him in one round of attacks and steal whatever he had.... As soon as I get ragnarok I am leveling every character to level 100 lol. Hopefully leveling up will make the game more interesting. Not saying the game is not awesome but it is just too easy.
Seriously, haven't games in the past 2 decades been far too easy? Games this days don't even come remotely close to being a challenge.

I'm looking forward to all of the FNC titles, most especially Type-0. I can't really play vXIII or XIII-2 until I get a PS3 or 360 again (my brother sold his 360), which sucks of course.
From the Type-0 trailer, I guessing the story is very serious...? ^^'
And I got Dissidia a couple days ago and I'm liking it so far; if I finish it by the time duodecim comes out, I'll probably get it. I want to play as Lightning again and try out the others as well.
The new FNC info is interesting too. I'm quite relieved XIII-2 won't be J-poppy. Wasn't X-2 J-poppy because since X was influenced by traditional Japanese culture and they focused on its pop culture for the sequel? Or something like that?

I watched some leaked videos of its game play in youtube. It definitely looks promising in most eyes of people. However, I'm praying to dear God that it won't be "just graphics". To be honest, I did not like the previous Final Fantasies that succeeded the FFX-2. I wish they would revert the format again to the traditional turn-based system of FF?
When I watched the video, it kind of looked like Tenchu style with Devil May Cry?

The HD trailers for FFXIII VS (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/japanese-gameplay-final-fantasy/709809), Type-0 (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/japanese-special-final-fantasy/709815) and Dissidia 12 (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/japanese-final-dissidia-012/709818) are out.
More FFXIII VS info (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/01/26/flying_get_f_style/):
- Your characters in Versus will not have jobs. However, your enemies will include dragon knights (or dragoons if you prefer) and summoners.
- There is a summoning element to the game.
- Your weapon selection will include: swords, axes, spears/lances, hand guns, machine guns, rifles, bazookas, and shot guns. This is just a partial list, though.
- The Ignis character (the guy with the glasses) is good with assist-style attacks. He can toss knives at enemies. (Note: I'm not sure if Nomura actually uses the Ignis name, or if it's just the person who wrote the summary.)
- The character with the scar on his face uses a fighting style. He can make use of a pile bunker and broad sword.
- The blonde character is a gunner.
- The game will have positional damage elements for attacking enemies.
- Larger enemies will have weak points.
- The game does not have team attacks for your party members. Repeat: does not.
- You can combo your attacks across character changes -- that is, you can keep your combo going when you switch the character you're currently controlling. As an example, you can make the scarfaced character do positional damage with his hammer, then switch to Ignis, or you can make the enemy shrink away in fear from Ignis's magic then call in another character to attack.
- You can bring party members back to life if they die. The exception is Noctis. If he dies, the game ends
- The difficulty is being set towards the high end.

Famitsu interviewed Square Enix (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/01/28/ffxiii_and_fnc_interviews/) about FFXIII-2 and the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythology. I'm too lazy to read the latter so here is info about the FFXIII-2 instead.
FFXIII-2 will answer the question on whether or not Lightning has found happiness at the end of the first game. New characters as well as the old ones will show up in the game. The story will be darker and more mysterious. Even though Lightning was shown in a new world, the FXIII world can still be explored. Speaking of Lightning, she has lost all of her l'Cie abilities (how convenient :eyeroll).
SE is considering the idea of giving a bonus to players who have a FXIII save file.

Type-0 has a very detailed update (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/01/31/ff_type_zero_update/) about the title, story, characters, battle system, and multiplayer mode. According to director Hajime Tabata, the game will have two UMDs.

A small Versus update (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/01/31/ff_versus_xiii_screens/) has some more screenshots and info about the battle system.
The command palette (Magic, Item, Summon and EX Arts) will be on the bottom left while the bars (HP, MP, EX) will be on the bottom right. The battles in VS will have a lot of gimmicks (e.g. tanks, mechs, etc.).
[hr]
They're really spoiling us with VS and Type-0 info...
In an interview (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/02/01/nomura_ffxvxiii_famitsu/) with Famitsu, Nomura revealed more info about Versus. Ignis (the guy with the glasses) was trained to be Noctis's military tactician. He and the scar-faced guy are childhood friends with Noctis while the blond guy has just become friends with the prince. Nomura said that the other two names won't be revealed yet, but Siliconera noticed that there is a character named Gladiolus (http://www.siliconera.com/2011/01/31/nomura-on-final-fantasy-versus-xiiis-destructible-fields/).
Storywise, it takes place when the enemy kingdom of Niflheim invaded Noctis's country so his friends and he must escape though the prince viewed it as "pursuing the enemies". When Noctis's father declared that he would be the final king, the quote was taken in a different scene and he was not talking to his son (I think he might be telling that to the white-robed man or maybe in that meeting of his "cabinet"). The white-robed man whom Noctis confronted is a different person. The forest scene in the trailer is from Noctis's youth. The term "l'Cie" and other words used in FFXIII will be used in the game as well but they will have different meanings.
The battles will be much faster than what has been shown in the trailers. The characters can double-jump, etc. and move with very fast speed. The battle system is close to Kingdom Hearts. The commands are temporary so they might changed but the HP bar, etc. are finalized. Nomura pointed out the orange gauge next to the HP bar but he didn't elaborate. The characters' faces above the HP bar show how well they are doing in battle. Interestingly, the other characters can only use magic if Noctis is around.
He also talked about Versus's worlds and field. There will be a lot of exploration and gimmicks. The example he gave was that in the highway scene, the behemoth won't destroy the bridge if you decided not to go across it. Speaking of behemoths, you can fight smaller version of them in the wild. According to Nomura, there will be day-night cycle so you'll confront different types of enemies based on the time.
We'll find out more info at E3.
Nomura also discuss some of his other games (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/02/01/nomura_other_games/). For FFXIII-2, he's designing the new characters and the old characters' faces though other artists will be in charge of clothing designs.
Nomura mentioned that he told the staff of Type-0 (the same one who did Crisis Core) to make the battles interesting. Based on some screenshots (http://www.siliconera.com/2011/01/31/it-appears-you-can-directly-control-summons-in-final-fantasy-type-0/), it looked like you can directly control the summons in Type-0. Apparently there will be a lot of characters since they have 50 voice actors in the game.

I liked Final Fantasy 8 just fine(Better than every Final fantasy that came after it IMHO), but i liked 6 & 7 a lot more.
Squall was a bit too much of a sulky emo for my tastes, sorta dragged down the whole experience for me( i would have much rather his father be the main character). That and i didn't think the surrounding characters stood out as memorable. Nobody like Barrett, Tifa, Vincent, Yuffie, Celes, Terra, Edgar, and Gau. And no bad guys even 1/100th as cool as Sephiroth.
I did love how summons worked in that game though, especially the way they effected your stats and abilities. I don't think they worked nearly enough of that aspect of the game into the story.

Can anybody give me an idea of what to expect from FF5? I intend to buy it on psp if the Sony ever gets those PSN issues ironed out. I'd be interested to hear what some of you think of it

Vincent is possibly the most popular FF support character, he's the third most popular character in the FF 7 universe. And FF 7 on a whole is pretty damn popular.
If you're a fan of the FF series as a whole you'll know that that statement of Sephiroth isn't true, actually its really a matter of opinion. I've always liked the Kefka villain from FF6, the dude started with basically nothing and became "Mana" God of the Universe (FF 6 universe) before the end and that I thought always counted for something. 16 bit laugh was pretty classic too lol. Exdeath from FF 5 was a pretty good villain too.
Killing a support character and coming in a cgi movie really helped Sephiroth, honestly just playing through the game he never struck as anything super special the very first time around.
The FF 6 cast was fucking awesome, all those characters you named were 1 in a billion at the time. And Squall shares alot of similaries with other FF main characters, mostly Cloud though...
FF5 can be summed up as the FF game that took job system and broke it, so if you are a fan of the job system (seen in FF 10 part 2, FF 3, FF 12 International etc) you should like. Don't want to really give away too much...

But as for Sephiroth, what i liked about him was that he was basically the dark knight type character perfected. Not exactly evil, more like insane. And the way he was introduced, with a very well written flashback, really catapults him above everybody else. It shows you what he once was and shows you exactly how he transitioned into what he had become.
He wasn't just a crazy evil and powerful dark knight. He was a crazy evil and powerful dark knight that you could understand. And to me that sets him far apart from similar characters.
I agree wholeheartedly about FF6's cast. It was just amazing. If SquareEnix released that game with PS3 level graphics and maybe a little bonus content that would be Game of the Year guaranteed. I mean, how could it not be?
------------------
As for Cloud and Squall, i think they were pretty different in most of the ways that really mattered. I mean, they do share a few things in common but Squall was just packed with emotional nuance, Cloud much less so. I'm not against emotional nuance generally but in Squall's case i think it was waaaay overdone. There were times when that issue caused the story to seem less like and epic tale and more like a soap opera to me.
I guess i feel that, where Cloud was able to fill FF7's plot with drama, Squall ended up filling FF8's plot with melodrama. I viewed that as unfortunate and really rooted in "who Squall was", with all his many thinly veiled insecurities.

I haven't read any of the posts yet, but here's my comments:
I've played FF 1-8
My favorite is FF6 (Terra and Kefka, so awesome!)
I liked FF7 almost as much, but it has a few things I that didn't like about it, so FF6 wins out as my favorite.
FF8 was decent and quite fun, including some of its features, but I felt it was a bit lacking in terms of the story.
(other than Edea's deep V dress, I really don't care about graphics/cinematics, I'm an old school gamer, so fancy graphics don't mindlessly "wow" me, as the new generation seems to love and sadly thus that's how games are made now, all graphics and no story nor awesome features nor great game play)
FF5 has a very different skill system and it was pretty fun for the first time, and its story was decent too. It's a nice change from the other FFs
FF 1-4, the beginnings of FF, hehe, quite grueling and long games...
---------------------------------------------
My only big gripe about FF games:
I love watching the summons (the first few times), but after that, they get dull and its bloody annoying having to wait for them to finish their animations, lol.
(a function to be able to toggle on and off the animations of the summons, would be so awesome!)

Type-0 website (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/05/16/ff_type_zero_site_update/) has been updated with a lot of information.
Apparently, in order to summon the war gods (http://www.siliconera.com/2011/05/16/sacrifice-your-life-to-summon-war-gods-ifrit-or-golem-in-final-fantasy-type-0/), a character must sacrifice his or her life.

FFXIII-2 ... Square/Enix chara design is becoming worse and worser, especially male characters. I had trouble since FFX (with Tidus, Wakka, ...) , FF12 had Vaan, FF13 had no good male characters. FF13-2 seems to have the same flow. That Noel dude is just a missed Squall.
Between the chara design, a pitch/teasing that isn't very interesting & the fact that FF are going downhill for years ... FFXIII-2 might be the first FF that I will not buy.

I considered Final Fantasy FFXIII the most style over substance game in the Final Fantasy series. So i'm not too interested in continuing with the story. Looks like they might have fixed some of the gameplay elements that i loathed in the original Final Fantasy FFXIII-2 but it's too little too late for me.
--------------------
The Final Fantasy games are going to have to make a TON of changes before i can really get excited about them.
I'd like to see the Final Fantasy games do a complete change in art style. Considering the CG art style they use costs astronomical amounts of money to do and honestly i don't thing it really adds that much. My preference would be a more anime-ish style. Like the style featured in Final Fantasy 6, 7, and Tactics. Which would be much cheaper for them to do, which would mean they could spend that money on other parts of the game development that need it more.
They need to do better with the stories IMHO, the past three fantasy games had completely linear plots(that really wouldn't have been out of place in an action-adventure game). And the people who write out the plots need to figure out the difference between drama and melodrama, there IS a difference; one is good writing the other is bad writing.

I personally would like to see an FF with Amano's art style again, kind of what is featured in his CG film Deva Zan. That would be awesome. :D

That could be interesting. Especially if they used the sort of animation that Atlus used for their upcoming game Catherine. It gives everything a very 3 dimensional drawn look, so they could really apply any art style they want to it.
They really cut down on the artistic variety after FFIX, which admitted looked like an artistic disaster. Square sort of permanently adopting FFX's art style, which was really just an update of FFVIII's art style, and applied it to everything(even Final Fantasy: Advent Children) Just making everything look as realistic as they possibly can while trying to retain all the flashy anime clothing and such.
Which i think was a huge mistake. What i consider the best of the Final Fantasy games(FF6,FF7, FF Tactics) all did not feature much in the way of realism art-wise. I'm not convinced realism is great idea in the magical fantasy genre at all actually(unless it's a dark game like Dragon Age). I tend to think an "drawn" look serves the genre better.

July 01, 2011, 11:18 PM
True. I hope they would consider doing different styles in future titles. Getting too realistic in the details doesn't really do it for some people. VersusXIII is going down that route, unfortunately, and although I appreciate how much the team is putting in making the visuals top notch, it doesn't matter if everything else completely sucks. Nice way of describing FFX's art style; that's what I initially thought when I first saw images of the game back in 2002.
I see fantasy-based games having an art style like a storybook or dreamy in a way; it gives that feeling of something you can't produce in real life, it lives only in your imagination. The current, realistic style they go for is to make gamers feel as if they are part of the world visually. I personally think that kind of style fits sci-fi.

Finally! We're supposed to get new info (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/07/05/ff_versus_xiii_followup/) on FF Versus XIII next week. :whoo
Here is more details (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/07/05/ff_type_0_interview/) about delay, multiplayer, etc. about Type-0 (http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2011/07/05/ff_type_0_update/)
Nomura and Tabata also responded to a quick Q&A with the Famitsu editors. Among the revelations here:
* For skilled action players, the game will have fighting game-like features like movement canceling.
* The game's loading screen shows user data. This will also show the player data of Square Enix Members.
* At save points, you can change your current party characters and also set your equipment.
* The game's main characters are from your school's "Class Zero." Students from other classes will also team up with you for missions. They have different colored cloaks.
* Nomura said that Square Enix is currently looking into a download version and overseas version of the game.
* There will be weather-related changes. Weapons will change in strength and firing range depending on weather. Amongst summons, Shiva will be stronger in the snow.
The game will also have peristyliums, which is a homage (http://www.siliconera.com/2011/07/05/final-fantasy-type-0-is-80-complete-but-may-be-delayed-to-fall/) to FFVIII.

To be honest I think the FF game with the best visual style was XII, and also XIV which featured more vibrant colours than the former. Yoshida Akihiko's designs look a lot better when rendered digitally in a realistic style, compared to Nomura's which tend to look too "anime" (granted this may be due to the outfits the characters are wearing, and their hairstyles). Amano is a god, his illustrations look gorgeous and I'm dying to get an artbook of his, as well as prints. However, I'm not so sure how his designs would look when rendered digitally. The characters featured in V and VI's CGI cutscenes looked odd, which I guess was also due to them not having as big a budget as the other games' cutscenes. I'd like fore SE to go with the approach they went with IX, have Amano design the characters and then have someone else (preferably Yoshida) recreate them in their style, which is then used for the actual game. Personally I love all of the character designers' styles.

Interesting video.
I think i'm finally sold on this game. Can't say i'm trilled about the battle system they've chosen(it's looks very action/adventure-esc to me). But the underlying parts to this game(plot, characters, and general game structure) look amazing.
Some of the things i see that i really like are....
A actual world map
This is something that has been missing from too many recent Final Fantasy games for no real reason. It adds immersion, a sense of familiarity with the game world, and gives a sense of exploration to the game; and i'm glad to see those things return.
A 14 person cast of characters.
As far as i'm concerned the more characters in a game the better. Because that way there is a better chance there will be some party members i genuinely enjoy using.

It's going to be a lot like FFXII. Fact is, after getting over the first annoyance of knowing the game etc, you'll LOVE the battle system and the world. It's really more free than most of other Final fantasies including 10 or 13. But if the story of XIII-3 is half as bad as XII then it'll be a real disappointment. The least they can do with all this delay is make up a good story.
