Background

Sengoku Basara is a series of action video games developed and published by Capcom stretching across several consoles based in feudal Japan. It has been adapted into a two season anime (of the same name) and a manga (Devil Kings Basara).

Sengoku Basara began airing on April 1, 2009 and was produced by Production I.G. It is directed by Itsuro Kawasaki. The opening theme song, JAP, is performed by Abingdon Boys School and the ending song, Break & Peace, is performed by Dustz. A second season was announced at the conclusion of the season finale episode aired in Japan, followed up by Production I.G's website. It will begin broadcast in summer 2010.[1] At Anime Expo 2009, Funimation Entertainment announced that it acquired the first season.[1] At Anime Expo 2010, Funimation also announced that they will stream the simulcast series, Sengoku Basara Two. Story

In the bloody Sengoku Period, or Warring States Period, of feudal Japan, many generals fought in an endless struggle for power, but one man proved to be too big of a threat: the dark lord, Oda Nobunaga. Sanada Yukimura and Date Masamune, two young warriors from different regions who become heated rivals, begin to form an unlikely alliance with the rest of the generals to take down the Devil King.

The first season follows the emergence of the various protagonists, particularly Date Masamune and Sanada Yukimura, and their struggle against the Devil King, Oda Nobunaga, who seeks to unite the land under him and is willing to crush anyone, even his own allies, to do it. It ends with his defeat at Masamune and Yukimura's hands.

The second season witnesses the emergence of Toyotomi Hideyoshi as the next potential unifier of the land, though unlike in actual history he seems to have no connection to Nobunaga, whose retainers were almost entirely wiped out along with him by the end of the first season.

Personal Note
The series is one of the better ones out there and currently my favorite. The animation is superb, the music is good, and the characters are really interesting. I will strongly recommend the series.

Was the series I looked forward to the most in all Summer Animes, so...*shrug*

Never saw any anime this...way off the top before...:3

But I got a bit worried regarding whether or not they'll do the third season, since the first season of the anime killed off Ieyasu and Tatakatsu. But well, this is Basara, so anything can happen, I guess...-_-"

Some info from animenewsnetwork:

The first episode of the Sengoku Basara Two television anime series earned a 5.4% rating in Tokyo's Kanto region and a 7.4% rating in Osaka's Kansai region on July 11. Those figures represent the highest rated premiere in the Sunday 5:00 p.m. timeslot for the MBS/TBS network since it began airing anime in that timeslot in April of 2008. It is also the third highest rating recorded in that "Nichi-5" (Sunday 5 p.m.) anime timeslot in the Kanto region, and the highest rating recorded in that timeslot in the Kansai region.

By comparison, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season premiered with a 4.5% rating in the same timeslot on October 5, 2008.

CAPCOM's Sengoku Basara (Devil Kings) action-adventure game franchise inspired both a 2009 television anime series and the ongoing Sengoku Basara Two sequel. Unlike the sequel, the first anime series aired in a late-night timeslot. Nevertheless, each DVD volume for the first anime sold over 20,000 copies.
