What's up with the superb art in the preview? Fillers getting this kind of attention? Hard to believe that Naruto vs Pain got 70% shit when awesome animation comes right after in fillers. Oh well, this filler mini-arc seems to be turning out great. Can't wait to watch the episode as the previous one (176) was great. I'm curious about the Madara/Sasuke pictures in the preview though.

This filler will have small parts cannon after all. We should get another small cannon part when Naruto meats Inari when rebuilding the village.

The episode was good but pretty sad in a way. Got to give Naruto props for not turning into a Gaara and getting revenge on those guys. Also atleast these fillers are short and we can get back to the main story. I have a feeling the reason they made pain vs Naruto fight have such shitty animation was so they could make the kage summit arch have the best animation that we've seen from Naruto ever with all the different ninja we will see.

The second part of a three-part filler involving Naruto's childhood. So yeah, Naruto gets treated like crap while trying to purchase a mask. There was some Iruka and Kakashi interaction. While under Kakashi's lead, Iruka gets injured during a mission and decides to become an academy teacher. Kakashi tells Iruka that he must be open minded if he wants to teach Naruto.

Naruto pulls off an impressive prank on those children who didn't want him to come along on their graveyard quest. However, Naruto gets easily fooled into thinking he will be friends with these kids by defiling a corpse on a battlefield. At least Shikamaru defends Naruto.

The next episode will have awesome animation and conclude this flashback arc. At the same time, however, it will also show Madara interacting with Taka. It's a bit weird for a semi-filler episode to get this much attention over an entire important canon battle (Naruto VS Pain).

Well it could be because movie is released so all good animators are now working on weekly episodes. I wish they had brought some fillers before Naruto vs Pain and started the fight now with better animators.

I'm still watching it, I like these fillers actually.

However, all the time I'm thinking like "how dare those idiots treat Yondaime's son and legacy this way?", really sad story actually :blink

I really like the overall episode, just that meeting of Iruka and Kakashi seemed so incredibly... staged. Them meeting so accidentially... Well, maybe it's just me but that moment seemed a bit weird. However, the rest of the episode was really cool, much better than I had expected if someone had just summarized it.

It's kinda funny to see these little children games and cruelitys compared to the current arc with Naruto destroying the guy who wiped out half of the village :D

This is actually first filler which I enjoy to watch. It was sad and not boring like other fillers IMO. Next what a good animation and drawing O_o

@ Nindo I'm very certain it's not. In Sadness and Sorrow, there is no moment of guitar only (nor is it in Grief and Sorrow, I double checked to be sure :D)
However, it's nice they use old the old soundtracks, if I recall that right there was Hinata versus Neji at an early point in this episode, very great track anyways!
Edit: It's when Kakashi, Iruka and Sandaime meet.

Old episodes certainly had these epic tracks, maybe they just haven't been used because there were so few moments described by such songs. Shippuuden soundtracks have a huge percentage of very battle heavy tracks, like "Kakuzu", "Kouen" and dozens more. However, there are a couple of nice and calm tracks as well, especially on the second soundtrack.
First one has Guren and Senya, which I like alot.

For that last episode there was this severe similarity to Evening, maybe they're using variations of old tracks at the moment... I'ld love to have them in a soundtrack, they're really really good.

If I can recall corectly, Iruka was shown recently watching his mother die after he was taken away. Too bad. Another thing that didn't come through was the fact that Naruto had his 16-year-old voice, instead of the old style voice. But other than that, it was VERY enjoyable. (:

Also, he later mentions about Sasuke that he might've ended in Sasuke's spot so easily, with him beeing the one consumed by hatred, and he just had good luck that this didn't happen.

Iruka is beeing hold by his mother, who has a severe wound at her back at that point, so he personally witnesses how she's near death already.

Yeah, youer right. The guitar start reminded me Sadness and Sorrow, to be honest I expected that it will start playing but than I thought wtf? This is something else but I didnt realized that its actually sadness and sorrow but some guitar version. Hmm is there a way to download this guitar version? Its frickin awesome.

If this was a more depressing series, Iruka could have walked into Naruto's apartment to see him either hanging from the ceiling or slumped at his chair from a self-inflicted stab. Seriously, it is amazing Naruto wasn't suicidal after that day.

Ok, it's sure that that's the more dire version, just been thinking that this would've been the perfect moment for the Kyuubi to strike and take Naruto's soul and body...
Wow, that's dire thoughts. Reminds me of suicidals and spree killers... Once again, the anime showed some impressive moments and backgrounds to summon such ideas as possible scenarios :blink
(We kinda see the spree killer in Gaara at chuunin exams as Kishimoto originally seemed to repeat that "lonely child" topic many times over the story.

i think this filler arc accentuates how mentally strong naruto has always been in his convictions of moving forward with life. i think its a part many people fail to realize in him, he deals with loss and pain with maturity beyond his age.

Quite amazing episode, the animation wasn't the best but the artwork was excellent. And since there were no fighting the animation didn't pull the episode down. The emotion was captured spectacularly and as always Naruto's voice acting is second to none, Naruto's voice actress is really one of a kind. I also find it awesome how they keep adding canon material in the flashback from random flashbacks of their days as kids. Like the scene where Naruto walks past Sasuke when he sits and looks at the lake. Sadness and Sorrow never fails either, I've really missed that song. Too bad we only got a very short version of it. Hopefully we get the full version before the mini-filler ends.

This is actually the first time I'm definitely going to rewatch a filler. The emotion in these episodes have proven to be amazingly well captured.

I'm curious about the Madara/Sasuke pictures in the preview though.

They just mean we're going to the next canon arc at the end of the next episode. Sasuke's rampage is next. Can't wait for Sasuke vs Danzou myself. Also want to see the 4 kekkei genkais displayed at the kage meeting in action. As well as laugh at Shi some more over how useless he is.

Yeah I know it's going back to canon, but...

What I meant is that it made me curious as I didn't recognize the frame with Sasuke, from what I can tell it looks like it's the same frame as this one (http://www.narutobase.net/manga/Naruto/449/17), only in the anime version Sasuke is high up in the mountain and has a spectacular view. So at first glance it looked like it was a littler filler, but later on I saw that they just added some extra background to make it more exciting.

Gotta say I loved this episode!

I gave it 8 cos it has great animation and story! For a filler this is great imo. Any filler that uses the canon to flesh out the characters is win in my book.

I bet the preview with Sasuke/Tobi is from next weeks preview xD

I think that was for the shinobis of Kakashi's age group/rank (chuunin and up) they were preparing to go into the battlefield but they got tricked into staying there.

As for Iruka, he may have been genin or academy student status, so he was put in the bunker. But it played out nicely, I think. The last part in Iruka's flashback could flow well with canon. I think he may have escaped the bunker to see his parents. Their troops being wiped was inaccurate information since it seemed more of a rumor to me. Then after he escaped the bunker, you know the rest.
