(Again, sorry for the REALLY late post. I’ve been in a weird funk for the past week. I’ll try and post 255 before Thursday, though I might not be able to because of finals.)

254. Leave The Chocolate Here

Okay...what surprised me the most about this chapter is the fact that a character that we’re probably never going to see again got such a lengthy send-off. I’m not sure whether it’s because Kubo liked the character (as do I), it was just a way to stretch the chapter out so he could come up with material for 255, or both. In any event, while I did think that it was a nice way to send Doldooni off, it still seemed way too long, and we didn’t even get a clear view of the other Privarons that Ichigo’s friends had to fight.

Another thing that I noticed was that the Exeqias didn’t look like Arrancar, in that their masks weren’t broken at all. They were still just as human-like as the ones we’ve seen, though, which makes me think that they’re either weak Arrancar or un-hybridized Vastorodes. If it’s the latter, then that makes the gap between the Menos-classes and the Arrancar seem much wider—not to mention the implied difference between the pre-Hougyoku and post-Hougyoku Arrancar implied at the beginning of the chapter.

In either case, I liked how the chapter gave us more insight into the different combat units in Aizen’s forces. It makes it seem more like an actual army than a bunch of Hollows in cool uniforms.

Other than that, there isn’t much that really struck me about the chapter. The part with Nell “healing” Doldooni was hilarious, and the forewarning that Doldooni gave Ichigo reminded me of Ikkaku’s warning to Ichigo in the Soul Society Arc. Thankfully, the fight in 255 doesn’t seem very much like Ganjyu vs. Yumichika at all, which is very good news.

Rating - 3/5

This was better than the last few chapters I’ve read, and give more insight into the way Las Noches actually works. But I still really would’ve liked seeing more of what everyone else was doing.

EDIT: I just dropped the rating down from a 3.5, as I just realized that Ikkaku had gone after Ichigo one last time during their fight when it seemed like he was done for sure. I can't believe I missed that...in any case, it was yet another glaring example of the parallels between the two arcs, and it bothered me. So I lowered the grade.

the exequias actually had katanas... if those are zanpakutou or ordinary katanas is to be debated, but i don't think aizen brought a bag of standard zapakutous or katanas with him....

That's true--but I wouldn't think that they'd send a bunch of low-level Arrancar after someone strong enough to beat the shit out of an Espada, either. That's why I threw out that idea, though it's not all that valid...

That's true, too--being a classification of Hollow or Arrancar we simply haven't seen yet. That would make it even cooler. But, somehow, I doubt that we'll be seeing much of them again, so I guess it isn't important in their case.

Well, who he'll fight next is pretty much up in the air, I think--though I do agree that he'll probably fight an Espada next, unless there's another part of Las Noches filled with Privarons next to where they broke in.

(And by the way, I made a new credits page for my perpetually-LQ scanlantions, and it's hilarious. I can't wait till Thursday...)

I just saw your review, a very good read and a pity it's too late to comment.

Why's that? I don't see why you shouldn't...

And I'll be putting out 255 today, along with 256 sometime this week. I don't want to end up falling so behind I stop doing it again.

Luckas, that was a bit too harsh.
i'm planning to do the last two chapters review but since gigantor21 is also doing it i don't want to do the same. so i ask him first, is it OK if i post my reviews?

i can't talk about gigantors preferences, but i would like to add, that i would LOVE to see more viewpoints in form of reviews, as everybody picks other points and everybody thinks different about the points.

so, i encourage you to post your reviews, inana

By all means, go ahead. It would be nice to have two viewpoints on the series--and it'd probably get me to do it on a more consistent basis (but don't hold me to that). Having multiple reviewers is working out on the One Piece part of the board, after all.

Have you reviewed manga before, by any chance?

Luckas, that was a bit too harsh. Why harsh? :confused I think either I misunderstood you or you misunderstood me. Hope this will not lead to another misunderstanding. :eyeroll
