So a new year has come (i wish you'll good health and every one's dream would come true) and while we all are full of anticipation i decided to look back at the past year to revisit the special moments and eents in manga, it's not a full recap and doesn't have a pull , simply every one post the special moments , events, panels, everything that made this year special for him whether it's a wonderful moment or a poorly written one.
For this year was amazing, lots of revelations, the plot moved forward at last and a lots of character development, it had many surprising and action packed events so i'm really satisfied this year.
this year started from the middle of danzou and sasuke fight, the early chapters were 477: don't speak of itachi (http://www.mangareader.net/93-43541-1/naruto/chapter-477.html)(last chapter we read in 2009) and 478: susano O, complete (http://www.mangareader.net/93-44811-2/naruto/chapter-478.html). from which the pace started to move at a high speed (very fast for some people) we got Sasuke character development as he goes insane and stabs Karin to get to danzou transforming completely to the dark side along with his completion to susano'o and his decision to take itachi's eye. we got team 7 reunion with slight development to kakshi and sakura (where we see kakshi's opinion of sasuke's departure as his fault for the first time), then naruto enters the scene and we realize he has a shocking resolution for his internal conflict about sasuke.
the war develops also as we see the preparation for the war, the decision of confining jinchuuriki's and we also see madar's preparations and discpver a tiny pits about his secrets throughout the year, Kabuto enters the ecene of war also and we get a fresh direction to the plot where he stirs alot of events and getting on Madara's nerves.
Naruto also starts the most anticiated training to control the kyuubi where alot of things happens(meeting with Killer B , confront his innermost dark emotions, fighting kyuubi , meeting his mother, getting kyuubi's chakra , controlling it, training on new for of rasengan) a lot of development of naruto's character happens during the training but a lot of side events like madar's versus konan happens and kisame versus guy and kabuto capturing yamato happens during the training.
we end the year with the begining of the war and knowing a lot about how edo tensei works and kakshi confronting zabuza where a lot of anticipation is there for an epic war in the upcoming year. so the year ends with chapter 522:I'm already dead (http://www.mangareader.net/naruto/522)with the mist 7 swordsmen appear for the first time (what an end).
So a ver busy year and a lot's of events , after this short summary i'll try to pin point the mos notable events for me i hope you 'll add you take on this year whether commenting on it or add your rating to the manga events this year.
Star of the year:
I really wanted to give it for Madara, he has been very busy this year and appeared almost at every event but i can't help but give it to "Kabuto". even though he appeared a little bit this year he impacted the Manga plot greatly whether by adding a fresh plotline, increasing the villains force in the war, kidnapping yamto and anko , getting on madara's nerve:p
and messing with the minds and emotions of the shinobi world and manga readers. he really was a great addition and deserves to be the star chracter of the year.
The most thrilling manly death of the year:
"Kisame" ofcourse, i mean you summon a shark to eat you and escaping with valuable information , you get a nice flashback and a compelling reasonable background story, this was the best death of the year for a formidable character even if he didn't have direct effect on the story.
The most disappointing death:
"Danzou" a very good example on how you build a vey good story around character , incorporate him to the main plotline, giving him the tools and opportunities to bring chaos to the manga, hint that he has a special plan to deal with his setbacks in the kage meeting, even hintin g that he is after naruo(the main character) then killing him in th most underwhelming way, i reckon this to be kishimoto's worst choice in the whole manga and i really wonder how will he close the open plotlines he opened using danzou then killing him before even discussing any of it we didn't get to know what's special about shisui's eye.
Shocking character development:
No comment (still shocked) (http://www.mangareader.net/93-46287-14/naruto/chapter-480.html):D(playing the song crazy).
Best moment/event this year:
what else, the story of what happened when the kyuubi attacked. Really this little Kushina/ Minato flashback has the ability to stand alone as an event by itself exactly as kakashi gaiden that really was a very will written event: informative, emotional , thrilling, and gave me goosebumps while i was reading it. and it had minato in it so it's automatic win for me. IT really deserves special award just for being the awesomest of moments this year :)
fascinating Special appearance:
"Kushina" , really kishimoto didn't disappoint with her, we also had a lot's of revelation about her and her clan , she helped naruto in subduing the kyuubi , told us her story with minato and what happened that night , really her chracter and story were written very well.
Best flashback
there has been many wonderful flashbacks like danzou's and konan's , the kushina flashback took several chapters and it's more of a gaiden than flashback also kisame flashback featuring his back story was very good but what took my attention was>>>
kisame&itachi (http://www.mangareader.net/93-57131-5/naruto/chapter-508.html) really wonderful flash back with (ofcourse itache presence also made it an automatic win) it has a very deep conversation between itachi and kisame and it was overall very well written and fitting the situation.
while it's not informative as the other flashbacks it really touched me may be because i specially like the kind of conversations that defined the humanbeing whether dead or alive , or may be the itachi fan inside me took over :p
Best panel
well that's for you to choose , this year we had a various wonderful panels to choose from , in fact i really couldn't choose only one .
worst panel
well it's not for bad drawing but for the failur of delivery of the meaning , it was cliche` and not befitting the situation at all even if it was well drawn
ofcourse i'm talking about the Rainbow panel (http://www.mangareader.net/93-57473-14/naruto/chapter-510.html)
Worst event
The naruto armadillo convo, even if it was done for comic relief it was un fitting, butchering naruto's development, and wasn't even funny , this arc had a lot more funny moments than this and was poorly written by kishimoto (sure there were worse events than this but this is what came in mind so what's your worst event).
I think i'll suffice with this recap for now , may be i'll come back later adding new categories and events, i'm waiting for your contributions , you may use may categories but it will be better if you used you categories , SO what is you 2010 Naruto's best and worst moments?

How is the Minato/Kushina flashback not as good as Kisame....
You serious?

How is the Minato/Kushina flashback not as good as Kisame....
You serious?
as you can see i put minato&kushina as the best event of the year , as i consider it more of a gaiden than flashback(i edited it a little bit to emphasize on that). I'm sorry if that was inconvenient to you anyway the thread is highly subjective and it wouldn't be good if noone else shared his view about what he considered good and bad this year so i'm looking forward to see your take on that thread, thanks.

The worst events that immediately come to mind:
1. Naruto hyperventilating and fainting. Not exactly sure if that happened this year, but it's around that point in the story somewhere. Either way, it was embarrassing.
2. Naruto looking like an idiot while everyone else is preparing for war.
Funny moments:
1. Sasuke stabbing Danzou through Karin. It's funny because he stabbed Karin.
Best moments overall:
1. I suppose the Minato/Kushina flashback wins that award. I love it when long-asked questions are answered.
2. Gaara's speech as Commander General (although he rants about Naruto as if he were the Messiah). Nevertheless, Gaara was pretty epic.
3. Sasuke being a crazy mofo.

Best flashback was konan's imo.

I didn't like Konan's death and her flashback, but I loved Kisame's part, with his defeat, his background with his reasons and the flashback with Itachi. His death has been one of the best in the manga.
I liked also when Danzo died, his flashback and the sentence "you are the leaf bathing on the sun;I...am the root that grows in the dark".
this war is the best job Kishimoto has ever done.
however, this has been the best year for Naruto, and I hope the next will be even better, but it's a very difficult trip.

Totally agree. Kabuto has been real badass up to now. It gives me the hopes of a truly awesome villain coming back. Cuz honestly, I never liked Madara as a villain. It's like his reputation is greater than he is. I have yet to see him doing anything that moves me.
Agree on both points. Kisame's death was epic. Not only did he stand up against two complete jinchuuriki, but he breezed past three jounin before finally getting caught up to by Gai. This also served to pump up Gai, as well. Opening up 7 gates and kicking Kisame's ass. If that ain't a hardcore ninja I don't know what is. Kisame then gets an amazing flashback and he's so broken that he has to off himself in the most kickass of fashions: shark death. Fuck yes. Oh, and his mission was a success.
About Danzou. You got it right all the way down to every period and comma. I was really excited about Danzou becoming the new "villain" of the series. It could've been done from an excellent political point of view. He was the one who allowed Konoha to get so destroyed by not allowing Root to get involved. He killed the messenger frog that was supposed to retrieve Naruto. He manipulated Mifune at the council. He tried to destroy the Byakugan of a future ally in Ao. He made official the order to execute Sasuke. He wanted Naruto, as well. He wanted to twist Konoha into his own ideal ninja village - contrary to the Will of Fire philosophy that has been around since Hashirama and Tobirama. He also had amazing powers. I almost jizzed in my pants when he revealed to have Sharingans all over his arm. How fucking epic and evil was that? There was so much promise for Danzou. He could've used Shinsui's eye to either vanish out of there and get reinforcements or do something else to save his hide. Thus declaring Sasuke to be an international criminal for his attack on the summit. He would've also been the leader of the joint forces. While Madara amassed his forces, Danzou could've been fucking shit up from within. Then, when Danzou was dealt with, the story could've continued on. It would've been a nice change of pace and a good direction. It was cut tragically short. All so we can see Sasuke kill a Konoha elder and betray a teammate to do so. As if he hasn't already killed a major character from Konoha (Orochimaru) and betrayed a team member almost killing them (Naruto).
Shocking character development:
No comment (still shocked) (http://www.mangareader.net/93-46287-14/naruto/chapter-480.html):D(playing the song crazy).
Kabuto gets this again. I mean, he's pissing off Madara at every angle, just as Orochimaru did. Also, he's got so many tricks up his sleeves and he seems to be über broken with his mastery of Edo Tensei.
Another shocking development that should receive honorary mention was Zetsu. He's not even a human.
Best panel

Best panel? Minato one-shotting Madara in the Kushina flashback.
Worst panel? Hmmm... for lack of remembering an alternative I guess it could be that one. Though you can't call it cliché especially since the Hidden Rain Village has constant rain that suddenly stopped. That and Kishimoto put a girl to be the pillar of a rainbow. Well, come to think of it, it is cliché.
And oh God, yes that armadillo event was an all time low for me. I couldn't even believe what I was seeing. That kind of comic relief is fanservice for like 5 year-olds. I totally facepalmed when I saw that. I was in total disbelief. I'm still in denial.
Nice recap!

Best Panel:
Kisame breaking free of Yamato's binding with a roar
Best Death:
Danzo - I agree with you Naruto-4-hokage - it was extremely untimely, but it was cool nevertheless. the dude reminded me of Naruto himself somehow: he never gave up, he fought to the bitter end and left Madara without a priceless trophy - Shisui's eye
Best Flashback:
that would be Kisame's
ok, I know many people like Kushina's flashback, but there are two "but"s:
1. as Naruto-4-hokage justly mentioned its more like a gaiden, not a flashback
2. it was simple history lesson
Kisame's flashback was something else: Kishi showed us how Kisame developed to be what he was - a cold-blooded sadist enraged at the world for all its lies and manipulations. With this flashback Kishi showed us that Kisame was an unfortunate product of an environment filled with unbimaginable level of brutality and yet he still managed to preserve something that allowed him to remain human: honesty and loyalty.

I didn't like Naruto's showcasing his intelligence or lack of thereof, I hated the way Kishimoto treated Danzou's character, and I've mixed feelings regarding Kabuto's Edo Tensei (as much as I would like to see characters like Hanzou fight, he poorly treated the Ambush team's fight, and bringing Zabuza and Haku back just so they fight like mindless puppets just takes away from their epic death). Not to mention Konan's useless death and boring flashback and the rainbow moment, Kisame's death was pretty good but still useless - he shouldn't have died against Gai after a 2 chapter fight, it was simply forced.

Imo the best Naruto moment was that we found out how great uzumakis were, all the naruto family reuniting moments .I hated how naruto was beating all those akatsukis members.Oh and ofc Sasuke's Emo moments

Minato gaiden was definitely the highlight of the year, one of the best parts of the entire series. Minato and Kushina were a great, tragic love story. The fight between Madara and Minato was very exciting, one of the most exciting fights of the year. And Madara finally has a connection to Naruto, Naruto finally has a reason to defeat him. The team 7 reunion was the next best thing. First time all four, including Kakashi, had been together since Sasuke fled. Everything that makes Naruto great was there: hyper-kinetic, high emotional stakes, Naruto bragging. NaruSasuke shippers even got a great moment, their first in years.
The worst has been the Zombies. Nothing but fanservice, rehashed bad guys and dull fights. Hopefully Kakashi's appearance breathes some life into this. Fighting characters from volume 4 is not promising though. Stupid generic action from a series that can occasionally rise above (not transcend) it's genre :x

Star of the year:
Kabuto annoys me, and Tobi is bleh. Ignoring the whole armadillo-Naruto fiasco, to me Naruto is the star of the year. Not only did he go from fainting to challenging Sasuke, but he recognized his own weakness and confronted it after so long! I was like, NARUTOOOOOO!!!11 when he said he couldn't run away from being a jinchuuriki anymore. Even though Kabuto added something although the Edo Tensei is getting annoying and boring and Tobi didn't do too bad, like killing Konan and such, Naruto to me is the star.
Plus, he epically saved Sakura from Sasuke! HOW... FUCKING... EPIC... IS THAT?! I basically "squeed," to take a word from Kait's repertoire. Those two moments really redeemed both Naruto the manga and Naruto the character for me. The way he fought Kyuubi was cool too, especially when Kyuubi acknowledged his strength. Even though he had help from his mom (let's be realistic, Naruto on his own can't beat Kyuubi), Naruto still finished him off.
Let's see... what else what else what else? <_<
The most thrilling manly death of the year:
Kisame. I mean, the man willingly let himself be eaten by his shark just to protect information on Akatsuki! Danzou just got pwned by Sasuke, resorted to taking Karin as hostage, and still got pwned, even though he removed Shisui's eye from Tobi's grasp. Danzou's flashback just brought us Niidaime, Sandaime, and Danzou when they were young, but Kisame's flashback brought us the man himself, Itachi! \o/ \o/ \o/ :confetti
Not only was Itachi brought back, but as always, he had something epic and wise to say. KISAME! KISAME! KISAME!
ohwait, Minato and Kushina both may be considered here as well even though they died about sixteen years ago Naruto-time. They used their own body to save Naruto from being stabbed and gave their lives to give Naruto a better life, but made sure they helped him in some way later on.
The most disappointing death:
Danzou. Shit way to go out, or to even die like this, especially when he could have had an important place in the story akin to Tobi's place. We know he's one of the reasons why Pain did what he did to Konoha as had Danzou not interfered, maybe Nagato's team wouldn't have ended up like this, even though other Konoha shinobi years before that killed his parents. We also learned that he most likely was behind Sandaime's death and may have had something to do with Minato's death, as well playing the main role in wiping out Uchiha. Seriously, this man was freakin' evil, he's the Akainu of Naruto, willing to get rid of anyone in his way for justice/his ideals. Danzou's potential was seriously wasted here.
Shocking character development:
Naruto and his resolve.
Best moment/event this year:
The Night of Kyuubi Gaiden, the flashback of Itachi and Kisame, and Naruto saving Sakura from Sasuke are tied. All three are epic in their own ways.
fascinating Special appearance:
Kushina. She's one of my favorite Naruto character, and we learned a lot from her appearance. She also gave Naruto that closer he needed regarding his heritage.
Best flashback
Tie between Itachi and Kisame for its epicness and the Ame 3 and Jiraiya for its emotion, especially after the flashback was over and we saw Konan die. :crying
Best panel
Tie between Naruto saving Sakura and Minato holding Kushina on top of the tree. I squee'd more than I ever had in my life when I saw Naruto saving Sakura. So fast and epic!
worst panel
:cookiestare
Worst event
Naruto's voiced curiosity of the armadillo's gender... At least Danzou's defeat showed how smart Sasuke was and how Sharingan didn't make him hax, like others think it does. Must Naruto talk about seeing private parts? <__<

Character of the year: Minato
While he wasn't in the spotlight for long, he showed us why he was so feared and respected back in the day. His sacrafice was unbelievable, and everything he did involving the night of his son's birth was just epic.
Scene of the Year: Itachi and Kisame meet for the first time.
Want to talk about two badasses? The first meeting between these two was just redic. Ready to kill one another at a moments notice, they certainly were the best duo in all of Akatsuki.
Death of the year: Kisame
Not much to say, he was a monster through and through, he went out like a true shinobi.
Best Fight: Madara vs. Konan
Give the girl props. Everyone thought she was useless, and then she nearly killed Madara. He hadn't been that close to death since fight Hashirama. This fight revealed more about Madara and led to him getting the Rinnegan again.

It was great year with Itachi/Kisame, Kisame's fight, Kushina, Madara/Minato fight and with a lot of information. Aside from these three things, I like almost the entire year:
Things I didn't like:
- Danzou's death. Took out an important source of information; destroyed a good plot twist (have Konoha have a civil war) and now we don't know te Oro-Danzou connection.
- Shin and Sasori's death. Especially Shin, we still don't know anything about him and Sai. I wanted to see what he could do.
- Armadillo's.

I made a short post but may as well do a full best and worst.
Star of the year:
Collecting Sharingan, building an army of Zetsu's, joining forces with Kabuto, the coffin that may or may not confirm his real identity, killing Konan, taking the Rinnegan, and most importantly - unleashing the Kyuubi during Minato gaiden. 2010 was definitely the year of Madara.
The most thrilling manly death of the year:
Kisame. Might not have been what fans wanted but he got a fight against Gai that even a non-action fan can appreciate and some great flashbacks that really did the character justice.
The most disappointing death:
Danzou. It was a pretty generic fight against an over powered Sasuke, I found it a little boring. More importantly I think, as many do, that Danzou had a lot of potential left as a a character. Imagine him undermining the war effort by fermenting a civil war. So many great plot twists lost. I'm not sure what Kishi gained plot wise by killing him when he did.
Shocking character development:
I really enjoyed Gai being Gai. I missed him and his springtime youth, Part II could have used more of him.
Best moment/event this year:
To me it was a tie between Team 7's reunion and Minato Gaiden. Both were events that had to happen, both captured what Naruto is best at; moments of great emotional power.
fascinating Special appearance:
Konan's brief fight. I'm pissed she died but really enjoyed her last moments.
Best panel
Naruto rescues Sakura, chapter 484 (http://8.p.s.mfcdn.net/store/manga/8/52-484.0/compressed/lnaruto_484_sleepyfans.16-17.jpg)
worst panel
People Running (http://3.p.s.mfcdn.net/store/manga/8/55-520.0/compressed/qnaruto_520_sleepyfans.18.jpg). The amount of time and detail Kishi has always put into drawing people running and talking always annoyed me.
Worst event
Edo Tensei in action. The whole enterprise of reviving old characters is broken. I have not liked the war, do not like the zombies, and hope Kishi gets to the stuff that matters soon :|
ZERO PHOENIX
January 07, 2011, 04:13 PM
Star of the year:
Pain. No other character in this title has done what Pain has been able to do. Toppling Konoha, killing Jiraiya, defeating Naruto, Pain made all of it look easy. Madara may have had more airtime, but little in the way of action he hardly stacks up.
The most thrilling manly death of the year:
Probably Kisame. Granted that entire fight was one colossal asspull but it was still epic. I wasn't expecting his flashback to have any relevance at all but it really spoke to his character and even the situation he was in after being captured.
The most disappointing death:
Danzo had a lot of potential and was certainly better material plotwise than Tobi, yet he had to get killed off just to sell Sasuke's descent into darkness. That was totally uninspired and more proof of Kishimoto's favoritism towards the Uchiha. The deaths of Minato and Kushina were also ridiculously drawn out. I mean who gets stabbed in stomach and takes like what, 20 minutes to die. The average dying speech is typically 3minutes long but they went way over that. What cheapens the deaths of Minato and Kushina is that while it is heartwarming to live on inside their son, they are almost literally paying rent. I mean they're really living on inside of him in such an over the top fashion death no longer means anything. Death no longer means anything in a manga about shinobi.
http://iareawesomeness.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/who_cares_about_death_by_ihatemuffins.jpg
Think about that.
Shocking character development:
I figured that Sasuke would just remain an anti-hero but he really went batshit didn't he?
Best moment/event this year:
Pain passing righteous judgment upon Konoha. Hard to beat this though: http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2010/262/4/1/sasusaku_demotivational_by_mb95-d2z3ct6.jpg
fascinating Special appearance:
Kushina turned out to be a real hottie so I'm pleased about that.
Worst event:
Nagato passing his will onto Naruto? Everybody is OK with the fact that Nagato took a 180 like that? Hard to top this one though: http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2010/049/e/0/Kakashi_demotivational_by_ROCZ.jpg

@ M3J and Delbi, I just signed in to thank you for wonderful posts :D
Since I'm at it might as well share my fav moments and weakest moments.
best arc: The team7 reunion and the NaruSasu connection easily takes the cake for me. Sasuke was pissing me off for quite some chapters arcs, but he was redeemed in my eyes when he showed the last fading light of humanity. He wants Naruto out coz it's personal rivalry, not blind hatred. At least for me.
As for Character of the year: Kushina. In her first active chapter (non memory) she made an entire fandom fall in love. Plus, pretty hair is pretty.
Characters that annoyed me: Naruto and Sakura. Like many others I wanted Naru to be consistent in his bad-assery and not go blindly hunting for wildlife and whatnot. Yamato got snatched right under his nose for crying out loud!
And Sakura :( has been trolled worse than Madara. Why does Kishi hate women so much?
Fangurl moment: Gaara's speech. duuude, that was awesome.
I'm hoping for more Sasuke panels next year, if not well ....Kakashi and Gaara are enough

Well, I would like to point out much, much more than what I'm going to write coz there's so much to talk about, but I'm still lazy so I will just write what comes to my mind at the first notice.. that is: Gaara :wtf More Gaara in the manga made me once more awesomely happy, because I knew that NOW there are chapters when he appears/will appear, and that's fantastic feeling :p <3 Though to minimize the fact that we're talking about 1 year only <and Gaara's re-appearance begun in 453 chap., so more than 1 year ago> I would say I'm mostly pleased with Gaara's attitude and charisma as a Kazekage - he really is the best mix of the 2 main characters: Naruto & Sasuke <and he is one of the few <if not the only one <not counting Naruto>> he can interact with both of them very well because of certain experiences similar to N. or S. Also the cover with Gaara was awesome, and Gaara's speech was really superb <though I know that there are ppl to say it was somewhat overdone, but not for me :p>, it made my day at that time. Yeah.

@nat you HAVE to come back...srsly, i miss the old days. Granted that i didn't post back then...but i always loved reading what jdw, nat, renboy, tda, kusachu and the others had to say. I am not taking anything away from the new posters mind you... On topic: i liked naruto a lot this year. He has been almost stagnant since the start of part 2 development wise...but this year he was great with a lots of ups and downs, inward thinking and measuring them up against the world...he has grown a lot.

very interesting opinions from all the posters i really would like to comment on all of them but i'm too lazy so i'll try my best....
Quick note @ ZERO PHOENIX:
I'd like to point your attention to the fact that pain nuked konoha at the end of 2008/start of 2009 and while it definetely is one of me best events and fights in the manga so far it doesn't fit in a thread talking about 2010 events...
that being said i could agree with most of what you said, just don't think of kushina and minato appearance as them being undead, think of it as interactive recorded video tape (or dvd you like:D)that may make you fell better about ite;)
@nat& Exodi&Junior:
I can't imagine that i forgot about Gaara speech, indeed it was important and i liked it a lot , it was the first time to see gaara emotional and it fit the situation perfectly anyway i'm hoping for more gaara this year and i dream that he will fight side by side with naruto but that's just my dream.
@Kaiten
interesting points indeed, For me team 7 reunion was nnice and liked it so much but it felt like it was missing something to be great but i guess that's just me, as for zombies i don't like edo tensei much specially for characters that has fulfilled it's purpose in the story yet i don't hat that much either and i think kishi is doing good work handling it, i liked you panel choice i laso liked when sakura looking to sasuke from above ready to stab him. but as i said before i reall can't decide one panel to chose from.
@good-boy
when was naruto beating all thos akatsuki?? and i agree with you on the uzumakis ,thanks for posting.
@Samui
I'd really like to know the things you liked this year because it's hard for me to believe that you hated all of it , i think this year really had a lot of events and pleasurable moments for every fanbase at least i think so.
@Ashher
well i guess Naruto got a lot of attention this year but i guess this armadillo moment really upset me and lots of fans so we overlooked it but really naruto did great last year and im hoping a lot more this year.
@AlB
it's really interesting to choose Danzou as the best death, but i understand your argument , eventhough it was disappointing he died like a shinobi , but still i found it the worst death this because i can't get over the fact that it destroyed a very good direction to the story and put this character to waste.
Also you chosed a very nice panel , i really hope that some enthusiastic dude make a thread for the best panels this year because i believe this year we got very nice panels.
@Nieuwsgierig
i guess i agree with all you said , i didn't think shin is a very important character so i didn't mind his death and i consider the zombies dead anyway in general so i wouldn't mind how they'll die but i agree the confrontation should have taken more time but may be kishi wanted to jump to the important events.
@Delbi
While Minato for sure had a very interesting appearance and i consider it the event of the year , i don't consider him the character of the year though may be because it was short appearance and didn't have much effect on the current timeline anyway i agree with rest but i really hoped konan fight would be much longer.
@M3J
Nice choice for the star of the year i wouldn't have chosen Naruto because all of the Armadillo mishappening but really rather than that he had an interesting confident resolve for sasuke and the kyuubi issue so it was an interesting choice for me eventhough i still believe that kabuto is the satr of the year for the reasons mentioned before.
i gotta agree with you on the rest and nice choice for panel i guess people really liked the naruto rescuing sakura panel and it's a nice panel indeed and i think monato had many great panel in his arc too( he rescued Kushina two times on a tree).
@mattiaildivino
it's interesting that you liked danzou's death too, konan death and flashback was ok for me. I gotta agree with you on the war being the best that kishi has to offer i really hope that it woud develop to something more epic that we imagined, i agree with you this year was formidable actually , let's hope the next year wouuld be even better.
@DementedKirby
first thank you for you post, as for Madara vs Kabuto i really don't prefer one over the other but i think Madara didn't offer all what he has to offer there's a lot of secrets surrounding him and may be that's exactly why you and many people hate him because he didn't offer anything yet but guess he will prove his worth soon enough.I guess we agree on everything else and like your take on the events.
nice choice for panel also (it was a very thrilling panel from my opinion, specially because of all the preparation that preceded it).thanks
I guess that's all for now(i hope i didn't forget anyone) sorry for the inconvenience , waiting for another interesting opinions.
thanks for posting every body i hope you all would have a wonderful year and not just regarding naruto but for everything else:)

Star of the Year
Madara definately. While Kabuto does some interesting things I'm just intrigued with Madara a lot more. Besides, I just don't like Kabuto lol.
The most thrilling manly death of the year
Not manly but I think I enjoyed Konan's death. Truthfully, I liked everyone's death because of how they went out.
Best moment/event this year
Kushina popping up along with telling the actual events of Madara and the 9-tails.
fascinating Special appearance
Kushina. I suppose I could say all of the summonings from Edo Tensei or Itachi (Sasuke vs Danzo) but there weren't really any special appearances that I can really remember outside of Kushina that was, well, great. Truthfully, I'd say that she was the only one that made a special appearance.
Best panel
Minato (http://read.mangashare.com/Naruto/chapter-502/page017.html)
Worst panel/Worst event
I got these tying together since they're practically the same to me and revolves around Naruto. Naruto passing out for the sake of Sasuke. Naruto begging the Raikage to forgive Sasuke (did that happen in 2010?). And then the armadillo. I never liked Naruto's character to begin with but I did have a little respect for him (during his fight with Pein). But then you have events like those that makes me lose any and all the respect I had for him and just make me think he's utter trash. There are a few others but those 3 stand out the most and are tied.

I get your hating on Naruto. I won't be asinine and make a "that was so gay" remark, but it's true. Naruto really shined last year by taking control and taking names but this passing year he did very little else besides control the kyuubi. Kishimoto seems to be undecided whether to make Naruto smart or dumb. I believe Naruto is a natural genius as his battle prowess is concerned (I believe that Kakashi explained this during Naruto's training involving his mass kage bunshin) but a real dumbass when he needs to use his brain. Oh well, we can't all be Shikamaru. Naruto is a combat genius yet he's as dense as a sinking brick. Sometimes his stupidity is charming, at other times it's face-palming. Hopefully, after his latest encounter with Sasuke he's gonna stop obsessing about it. Even Sakura is less obsessive with Sasuke and she wants to do him.

Star of the year: Kushina. It was brief but rewarding.
The most thrilling manly death of the year: Minato's, even though it was 16 years ago
The most disappointing death: Konan's. She could have slipped into obscurity, but nooooooo.
Shocking character development: Madara, actually being an interesting character aisde from arch-villan.
Best moment/event this year: Naruto meeting his mom.
fascinating Special appearance: Kabuto, he was off the radar screen for so long.
Best flashback: The Kyuubi attack 16 years ago.
Best panel: When Naruto finally secured the Kyuubi's chakra.
worst event: Sakura not able to stab Sasuke at point blank range.
Worst panel: Sasuke looking crazed before he stabs Karin.

1. Star of the year:
2. The most thrilling manly death of the year:
3. The most disappointing death:
4. Shocking character development:
5. Best moment/event this year:
6. fascinating Special appearance:
7. Best flashback
8. Best panel
9. worst panel
10.Worst event
1. Minato: He was just simply awesome and last year will probably be the last time we see him for a long time.
2. Kisame dying was the best.
3. Konan: She died from a metal pipe, Danzo at least messed with Madara by keeping his eye's safe but Konan couldn't protect Nagato's body.
4. Sai actually since he called out on Sakura pretty much using Naruto and the panel with his brother. I'll never forget that face he made and how he took out his brother.
5. Naruto and Sasuke clashing with Rasengan and Chidori again.
6. All 4 kages together in 1 place and the war meeting later on with all 5 kages
7. The Kyuubi attack was the best flashback IMO
8. Minato with his Rasengan and Hiraishin Kunai from Bee's flashback
9. Kakashi saving Sakura
10. Its a tie between Sakura surviving from Sasuke's chidori due to Kakashi, Naruto not using his new sensing abilities to notice that Yamato is gone from the Island, Naruto not being promoted, Naruto not killing Sasuke when he had the chance, Naruto shunting Hinata's confession due to events, or when Kabuto upgraded Edo Tensai to the point that the puppets can't dissolve like Sasori did before.

1. Star of the year: Kisame. He went from a semi-important Akatsuki member to someone who showed what it meant to be a shinobi and do what was needed. His final fight with Gai, Flashback of his time in Kiri, And sacrifice to protect Akatsuki were all wonderfully done.
2. The most thrilling manly death of the year: Kisame of course.
3. The most disappointing death: Danzo. He was given so much build up as a future villain and possibly a separate threat to both Konoha and Akatsuki, Yet he was killed for no other reason then to build up Sasuke even though it really could have been done in another way.
4. Shocking character development: Sasuke stabbing Karin (http://www.narutobase.net/manga/Naruto/480/15). It was truly unsuspecting.
5. Best moment/event this year: Kushina's flashback. Seeing the Kyuubi and Madara in action was great along side the touching story of Minato and Kushina.
6. Fascinating Special appearance: Haku. I always loved Haku and Kishi did not disappoint me in bringing him back. Even though he was one of the earlier opponent of the series, He's still a considerable threat.
7. Best flashback Again, Kisame's flashback. Seeing how his beliefs began to form and the things he was willing to do to serve his village was a great treat.
8. Best panel Kisame sacrificing himself to his own sharks while remembering Itachi's words (http://www.narutobase.net/manga/Naruto/508/11). Sheer badass.
9. worst panel The panel with the armadillo (http://www.narutobase.net/manga/Naruto/514/5). There was really no need for us to be shown that again.
10.Worst event The situation with Naruto and the armadillo. Made no sense and was really unnecessary. There must have been a better way to keep Naruto busy.
I would have to say that this year really made me a fan of Kisame.

Best "worst moments" of 2010.
1. Naruto fainting after hearing about the news regarding Sasuke. (He's a missing-nin, what the hell did you expect?)
2. Naruto's birth (It played out like one of those ECCENTRIC "superhero v. villain, w/ damsel in distress"moment. I would have loved to see a young Kakashi interact with Kushina, or Jiraiya & Kakashi seeing baby Naruto.)
3. Finding out about the Juubi.

I'm a Huge Naruto Fan and i say that because i loved pretimeskip, as in Naruto Part 1.
I was never a big fan of the posttimeskip developement, but i always tried to give it a chance, the story i mean.
The Manga, especially in 2010 had mostly mediocre to average storytelling, which might impress some people more than others, but as a fan of good storytelling, one always has to go into the defense when it comes to Naruto i guess. Maybe it is just me.
Star of the year is probably Kisame or Madara. Personally i'd say Kisame, and not because of his death. Throughout the Manga Kishimoto somehow managed to keep him and give him subtle character developement, which is good storytelling ^^
The best of 2010 is by far, at least for me, the flashback of the 3 nins konan, yahiko and nagato, after konan gets killed by a fail moment for kishimoto. the rainbow or bridge is just embarrasing http://www.mangareader.net/93-57640-2/naruto/chapter-511.html
The chapter reminds me so much of the way it used to be in part 1, i dont know why. Jiraiya teaching the kids, just him being there makes the chapter special! Seeing the 3 full of hope, also full well knowing how tragic it all ends!! and the last pages with the cards that show us that they all reached home ... it might be very dull or simple for many, but the beauty and sadness of it makes my heart ache.
And to finish the reader off, kishi brings us the person who is to blame for everything on the very last pages. Madara! and i just wanted to skip everything and see Naruto ripping that guy to shreds. At that moment i thought that had Kishi turned it around at last and would put some effort into what he writes and draws. Maybe he does but he is failing in my opinion.
As for failures of 2010 i 'd say most of it. The "war" as a whole. the shinobi world magically unites and they all fight against zombies, which are randomly mixed naturally.. former enemies, teachers, friends and beloved one, how convenient. "Character Developement Drive In/to Go". It is enemies jumping into special attacks all over again.
If anyone want some specifics ill be glad to deliver my comments on every scene!

1. Star of the year:Killer Bee Dammit!.
2. The most thrilling manly death of the year: Konan. While the rainbow was a whiplash it may be fitting, you know the whole bridge supporting thing. She died attempting to protect her ideals, she fought in a clever way, her dreams were crushed and finally the last piece of blood soaked paper served as a cute good-bye to the relatively minor char. Blood, evil winning, in a crushingly painful not absurdly god-modding way; since it was stated Madara knew of Izanagi before and a single minute would've been enough for him to win. It had all the package: clever powerful hero fails, in an over dramatic way just to give its hope to the true hero; while the minor yells out to the air her dreams, knowing the last thing that remains is failure, she still valiantly continued explaining her hopes until the end, waiting for her opponent to finish her off.
3. The most disappointing death: Danzou. It's unanimous. The rival of one of the most badass chars. ever, overpowerful, smart, has been mentioned for over 4 arcs as a source of incommensurable danger. Looks badass, mocks and kicks Sasuke's ass, is defeated in the next two chapters.
4. Shocking character development: Madara. I didn't expected nothing from this guy, he was boring and plain. Then he placed the rin'negan, revealed he was surprised and mad at Pein; last but not least Kabuto appeared and he gathered all the hatred for dullness and plainness that I may have focused on Madara and multiplied it times ten on him, making Madara even more cooler by comparison.
5. Best moment/event this year: Kyubbi's fight
6. fascinating Special appearance: Jiraya!!!!
7. Best flashback: Konan's
8. Best panel: At first I couldn't even decide. I was going to put the funny moment where Naruto faked his head was eaten, but if I'm going for funny I should be thinking of Beelzebub; since this was Naruto I decided awesome: Badass (http://www.mangafox.com/manga/naruto/v54/c509/16.html) but then I remembered :No more whinning!!!!!!!!!!!!! (http://www.mangafox.com/manga/naruto/v52/c486/13.html)
9. worst panel Chibi Ninja in a serious moment (http://www.mangafox.com/manga/naruto/v51/c481/5.html)...also Sai's brother regenerating after exploding. How does exploding someone doesn't qualify as impeding his movements?... How?!!!!
10.Worst event: While I condone Edo Tensei's super-power in order to bring the chars. we love and the other monsters we didn't saw (the jinchuriki and the Kages) it has now become too powerful. Exploding a Zombie doesn't kill them?... I have to say sweet words to them for it to function!!!?

Let's summarize some of the events in 2011
For me it seemed like Kishimoto's focus was not to present a war in its earnest...but just to create enough events to shape certain characters...Shikaku did his best, the Kages moved around a bit, the lore was extended, but of course Naruto development was the main idea here...
So I think the war just served as a setting or if I want a harsher term, then the war was an excuse to develop characters in a certain way...
The underwhelming part was definitely the performance of the villains...only Tobi with Gedo, and then Madara offered true villainous actions...and of course Muu and 2nd Mizukage tried their best
Overall the worst moments were the fights for me...of course some fights turned out to be quite spectacular with great art and good ideas, but overall the whole deal was a mess for me...somehow Kishimoto slipped with the attempt of developing the support characters...it was a bit redundant and the course of events seemed rushed...and in the end, no important deaths occurring is probably THE worst
And I think Kishimoto rushed towards Naruto, Madara and Tobi...which were the best parts of the year...Naruto's bits were a bit cheesy, but at least it was revealing, and stayed true to his character....also it's thanks to Naruto that Itachi and Nagato did what they did this year...so events surrounding Naruto were great...
Same with Madara...although his actions are still in the air...
Of course I definitely forgot stuff, so I invite all of you to share your best and worst moments....enjoy!:party

2011 Naruto's best and worst moments
Star of the year: Naruto.
The most thrilling manly death of the year: Konan
The most disappointing death: Sasori.
Shocking character development: Madara
Best moment/event this year: Naruto hugging his mother. Equally Gaara being protected by his mother.
fascinating Special appearance: Pein
Best flashback: The birth of Naruto...Itachi holding Sasuke was so awesome....
Best panel: Minato smashing Rasengan using Flying Thunder God Technique on Madara
worst panel: Jiraya,Pein,Konan and Yahiko wearing frog suits....

Star of the year: Kabuto
I hate him but he really has been the driving force behind this entire year.
The most thrilling manly death of the year: Konan
Not that I thought it was all that good. It's just that nobody else worth mentioning has actually died. A tragic statement during a war arc.
The most disappointing death: Diedara
Technically it was just his zombie but still...that was pretty lame.
Shocking character development: Learning the Kyuubi's name
I wasn't satisfied that another Bijuu told it to Naruto, I would have liked it much more if the Kyuubi had to told him it's name of it's own volition but still it was stunning.
Best moment/event this year: Madara's appearing on the battlefield and fighting the 5 Kage's
I loved this. Easily the highpoint of the year for me Naruto-wise.
Best flashback: No such thing
Flashbacks are narrative poison....
Best Panel: The appearance of the 5 Kage's together at the end of 562
That was a great panel delivered at the perfect moment.
Worst panel: Any of them that show Kyuubi mode.
Terrible artistic design....just terrible.
The worst event: The Silver and Gold brothers.
There have been a lot of "not-so-good moments" with Edo tensei but this one was just a terrible, awful, and horrible concept which was executed so badly that it somehow made it worse. It was just bad from the first page to the last.

Star of the year:
Kabuto - Can't say I'm a big fan of Kabuto but I have to give props where it's due because, as it has been stated, he's been the driving force of this entire war.
The most thrilling manly death of the year:
There haven't been any deaths as far as I can remember
The most disappointing death:
Most thrilling death
Shocking character development:
Tobi, I suppose. We're basically back to square one with trying to figure out who he is.
Best moment/event this year:
Madara (http://mangable.com/naruto/chapter-559/15/)
fascinating Special appearance:
7 Swordsmen (http://mangable.com/naruto/chapter-522/16/). Truthfully, I could've said Madara again because that appearance was probably the most dominant thing that happened in 2011, but I decided to go with the 7 swordsmen since Madara had Best moment.
Best flashback
None. I detest flashbacks.
Best panel
Madara (http://mangable.com/naruto/chapter-559/15/)
worst panel[/b
I don't think I'll say there was a worst panel. I like Kishi's artwork.
[b]Disappointing event (final remarks)
Instead of saying worst event, I'm calling it disappointing since this war is the only thing I can remember that's been going on last year. Anyway, this war has been disappointing to say the least. Sure, there are some great moments (Madara's appearance, 7 swordsmen) but as a whole this has been quite a boring war. The reliance on Naruto is a big part of it because it just makes everyone else look incompetent. Madara's appearance was the only thing that got me interested because it brought up a lot of new questions, and then he made the kages look competent again. I know the series is called Naruto and that it should be centered around him, but to have so many characters that use to be able to hold their own have to rely on the main character. That really bothers me (main reason I don't like DBZ anymore). And then this war itself seems like Bleach in a sense. Despite everyone having bruises here and there (Oh, not to mention losing a bunch of nobodies) it still seems 1-sided. I'd like to see a known character kick the bucket, but "shrugs" [/nitpick]

my favorite moment is when Minato appeared in Naruto's subconscious and helped him gain control in order to defeat pain
that and some of the new stuff in the manga that i wont talk about in this thread due to spoiler reasons
the worst moment......
honestly i am dissapointed in that skank sakura, i am sure the story is going to turn out fine, but she did nothing but blow naruto off and the time she tried to pretend to like him just to keep him from chasing after sasuke i lost all respect for her, i am glad naruto saw through it, i cant stand girls like sakura, whether they are real or fictional
i hope naruto winds up with hinata
