View Full Version : Complete Goong by Park So Hee
February 16, 2006, 10:32 PM
Here we can discuss about one of the most popular manwhas out there.
By: PARK So Hee (http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=382)
Serialized In: Wink
Scanlated By: Multiple Groups (http://www.mangaupdates.com/releases.html?search=637&stype=series)
It's about a girl who finds out she's actually engaged to the prince in the Korean Royal family due to a promise the former king made with her grandpa. The next heir to the crown, Shin, ends up being a total jerk, but due to some reasons they marry anyway.
Well... and now imagine you're 17 years old and married to a prince? :o And although this dude is damn good looking he seem to be such a dork sometimes. But is he really?
And then our heroine, Chae Gyeong, has to deal with living at the royal palace, far away from her home, court intrigues and the prince's attractive cousin, Yul.
And don't forget Prince William of the British Royal House! Yes, he's actually a minor character in this series! :blink
Really, it's a.......drama. A pretty addictive one.
It's got everything you need: Love, romance, comedy, some kind of a cinderella story, beautiful art. :hearts
So anyone already read this? What do you think about it?
February 16, 2006, 10:42 PM
When I first read about your recommendation of that title, I definitely thought about trying it - but right now my table's full with manga I want to read at the moment.
Still, I promise this will be the next shoujo title I'll try and I'll get back to you. It does seem very interesting, and its Korean backstory is appealing to me because I used to have a Korean girlfriend in the past. I like learning about her culture. ( I picked up Clamp's Legend of Chun Hyang because of her, but that's another story, another thread... XD )
GK's girlfriends > GK's posts :p - K

Sounds like something I'd enjoy, but since I have dial-up now, I can't download any manga. But I don't have much time anyway. Hopefully someone will pick it up and release it in print.
March 07, 2006, 04:15 AM
Get broadband, Silva!!! :smack
March 07, 2006, 04:29 AM
I can't. The apartment complex doesn't support DSL and I can't afford cable.
March 07, 2006, 04:34 AM
Bleeeh, sorry to hear that. Well, hopefully it'll be in print soon, yeah.
Hey, Silva, why not write about something you're reading? Never mind, just saw your Shojo Beat thread. =)

*comes out of lurking for the first time*
Goong was licensed by Ice Kunion and the first volume is slated for a May release with the second volume tentatively scheduled for August. I can vouch for this series being really good - my mom who hates things related to anime/manga/manwha actually watched about 10 minutes of the live-action drama based on the series and ENJOYED it. I definitely recommend reading the manwha and if possible watching the drama, which you can get through d-addicts.com. It's a great series and I'm glad that people recognize it. It definitely deserves all the hype.
*fades back into the woodwork*
March 10, 2006, 05:25 AM
Welcome, YukariRin! Please come around more often ;D
* * * * *
I downloaded the first eight volumes of Goong, will give it a try as soon as I finish Vagabond (and some more volumes of Hajime no Ippo). :)
* * * * *
Read the whole first volume, and... it's just not my thing. LoL.
Maybe if the translation had been better done, I would have been able to enjoy it more, but I also don't really like the art and romance stories I guess is just not the type of genre I go for - ah well ;)
August 20, 2006, 06:31 PM
wow~ goong is here as well?
I have read upto volume 12 in Korean raw.
Romance is high in the air~ Love triangle or should i say sqare? XD
it would b cool really Korean loyal would be revive like queen in UK...
But the problem is Royal families are all over the place at the moment...lol
and is really hard to define who would be the king at the moment as well
September 04, 2006, 12:22 PM
I have not seen the Goong manga in the US...I dont think its out yet at all. But I'll check on what you said...thanks!
November 02, 2006, 01:53 AM
Watched the drama first and then decided to read the manhwa. Right now I've read up to Volume 10, can't wait for the rest to come out.
Does anyone have the pic for the cover of Volumes 1 and 2? The only images I've been able to find for these covers are the ones over at Amazon which don't actually have the Goong logo on it or the volume no.
January 22, 2007, 08:38 AM
Omg! I did not know that was the actual Prince Williams!?#!@ :blink
Aha.. I knew the Goong manga sounded familiar...so it is based on the TV show! Or was the TV show based on the manga? Hmmm... Well thanks anyways Miso for linking it up :).
January 22, 2007, 08:52 AM
There was a <a href="http://english.tour2korea.com/02Culture/TVMiniseries/goong.asp?kosm=m2_6&konum=1/"> korean drama </a>based on Goong manga, and just completed its 1st season recently. There are talks of 2nd season ,but the lead actor & actress will not be acting. Anyway, that's just some side info for you.
p.s. Btw,your avatar looks deadly familar! :P
February 13, 2007, 06:49 PM
i read till chapter 73 and then stopped, just getting boring so continue it later but the general plot is nice, yeah i recommend it
February 15, 2007, 07:45 AM
Yes, I agree too...its actually quite a long series...12 volumes and still running.. :sweat
Actually I kind of like this story...It is quite political, with the fight over the throne and even an unborn baby can affect who will be the next Crown Prince. And there is even indirect 'bitch' fight between the Queen and Yul's mum. Go imagine..Really some complex issues that lie beyond the peaceful family image that the Royal Family has to project to the rest of the world.
And the 'best' part is, Chae Yong is still ding-donging between Shin & Yul, even at Vol 12.. :bored
March 02, 2007, 03:56 PM
> 3< Usually korean dramas are based off of manwhas, but I don't really know for this one.
I haven't watched or read it, but I think I read a chapter of this before (might be wrong)...
March 04, 2007, 01:14 AM
Oh yEs, the Goong-Korean drama (24 episodes) is definetely based on the manhwa series - Goong!
It is quite a nice series around , just that there are some slight deviation from the manhwa series.
Reading the manhwa is a more enjoyable though...
If you are interested, can check out the pictures & sypnosis here as well.>> Princess Hours/Goong (http://www.hancinema.net/korean_drama_Princess_Hours.php)
March 26, 2007, 03:50 PM
does anyone know where to find the downloads for chapter 12??? i really like the story!!!
March 27, 2007, 10:22 AM
Hi katie, You want Chapter 12 and not Volume 12?
Anyway, you can try MangaTemple (http://www.mangatemple.com/component/option,com_alphacontent/Itemid,74/section,19/cat,242/task,view/id,175/)
Hope you find what you need there and let us know what you think of goong :)
April 11, 2007, 10:23 AM
I just finished reading Goong till the latest chapter and frankly, I didn't like the translations much.. it's really screwed up :notrust but the storyline was interesting and that made me continue reading it despite the trans. I do recommend it for its good plot. But the namings can get really confusing, I just depend on the drawings to understand who they are referring to most of the time.
Royalties are such evilllll people :kukuku
April 16, 2007, 08:41 AM

Has anyone seen the Korean drama for Goong... if you have not, i suggest it. It really is worth looking at.. there is also Goong S as well :P
October 12, 2007, 04:51 AM
Well azurel, VK scans has picked up this project and it's up to chap. 94 already. VK scans is a pretty decent group so the quality's really good now.
this is the VK scans website ---> http://vkrinne.uk
about chapter 94, it seems like building up to climax already, since this is the greatest problem that can happen to the plot. I don't know if this is just an arc, or nearing the end of the whole manga... It'll take probably only 2-3 volumes more.
October 24, 2007, 08:43 AM
I finalie got caught up on this series this week :-)
The scans before VK sucked the translations and scans just sucked -.-
Now that i am caught up i am loving it ;-) the drama and such is soo good and the jokes i loved when Shin and the girl (-.- darn me and my forgeting how to spell main people's names!) were watching porn lol
Is the mawhaka*sp????????* said anything about ending the series soon?
October 25, 2007, 05:23 AM
I don't really know about any news that it's ending, it's just a speculation.
the new address of VK Scans btw, is http://vk.rinne.nu
June 12, 2008, 08:47 AM
thanks for the heads-up, winter! Who scanlated it this time? Will it be another group intending to pick this up?
er... I can't download it, winter. And I don't understand how to proceed for the online reading as well :shakefist
June 12, 2008, 10:14 PM
>.> are there no "normal" files available? Like, as a zip file or rar? Not to sound demanding but it'll be accessible for everyone that way, right?
June 15, 2008, 12:34 PM
ne winter, I think I finally got myself to downloading Eread. hehe. Just so I can read this chapter. Because it seems VK scans is on a standstill.
May I ask which group did this chapter?
June 18, 2008, 01:43 PM
ahhh... i havent read this in a while... but i loved it =]
i loved the tv show too. the same producer is making one for Bride of Water God!!!
but i still have the raws up til volume 17. if anybody wants it.... just ask! =]
June 20, 2008, 12:36 AM

June 20, 2008, 08:53 AM

July 26, 2008, 09:40 PM
The divorce crap is going on waaaaaaay toooooo looooonng.
I mean, it's fine for drama, but having multiple volumes of Chae and Shin angsting over the divorce repeatedly gets stale really quick. They need to step it up and start doing SOMETHING.
July 27, 2008, 07:21 AM
Well at least this time
Chae's mom realizes what Yul's after. So the developments after that could very well turn events. ^^
August 03, 2008, 12:21 AM
do you think the manga storyline might end up like the drama?
i don't want them to divorce but at this point it looks like as if it's inevitable ^^;
August 03, 2008, 01:22 AM
Nope. I don't think the manwha will end like the drama.
I for one didn't like the drama ending too much. But much of it was because I knew there was more in store for them in the manwha.
Right now I can't make a solid conclusion what the story aims to be. Will it be a story where CG finally conquers the Royalty stunts and become a great empress herself, just to stay with Shin? Or will it be where she realizes she can't really cast aside her real self just for a man? It all boils down to who she deems herself to be: if she really is a girl who is capable of leading a nation, or a girl who is not willing to give up her freedom and values herself more than anyone.
Either way, those are good endings for the heroine. And there's the typical shoujo moral for you. Still, for those two endings, will Shin follow her to the end, or will he also realize that becoming King for his nation is more important than loving this girl?
that kinda stuff... :s
November 10, 2008, 09:52 PM
Chapter 129 is <3 !! The divorce thing was dragging out sooooo long.
November 10, 2008, 10:36 PM
my last chapter read was 103 :scry
November 10, 2008, 11:09 PM
I subscribe to Wink (Goong is published in Wink). 129 is the one in the November 15th issue (latest issue). Hasn't anyone caught up the scanlation yet? I haven't been paying attention since I just read the magazine.
November 10, 2008, 11:33 PM
I think the scans are up to 103 anyway. :s
November 11, 2008, 01:06 PM
you can get wink in the states? i never knew that!
November 11, 2008, 10:45 PM
miya-san, what is the trans and scan status for this manga anyway?
November 18, 2008, 02:09 PM
but for anybody who wants it, im just posting the raws for volume 17 ^^
January 25, 2009, 11:53 AM
kyaaa! right, so the scans in mangatraders still go only as far as vol 16 c107 :scry Any takers or links of anything beyond this?
PS: miya-chan, i can't read korean for shit, so maybe you could um... pick this up? :wtf
huhuhuhu it's so painful to watch. The couple finally is suuuuuuuuuper lovey-dovey and yet they have to part!
:woot at Shin's mom for declaring revenge on the other queen (or something). It was about time she kicked ass!
January 28, 2009, 03:36 PM
dredshi is still doing it. They bought my copies of volumes 17 and 18 (still in shrink-wrap, even!) to scanlate. They are working on it, so hold onto your horses.
January 28, 2009, 08:30 PM
yay at least I know someone's still doing it, thanks for the update! ^^
March 08, 2009, 07:45 PM
Still waiting for chapter 108;(
April 25, 2009, 09:12 AM
chapter 108 is already released at Mangatraders.com
I haven't read it yet so I don't know who scanlated the project.
April 25, 2009, 11:01 AM
Some soompi people. I already gave Ferret from dredshi the translation but... I doubt he'll get it out. They are not only missing translators, but the editors are all unavailable, too. So *shrug* whatever.
April 25, 2009, 12:31 PM
i just read the chapter. ow it was really painful :scry
why do they have to suffer this way, I thought. then I remembered it was Yul's fault. what an evil asshole he is. I really hate him grrr!
May 05, 2009, 07:36 PM
I ACTUALLY READ THE CHAPTER TODAY AND IT WAS VERY SAD...
I LOVE THE MANGA AND I REQUEST IT FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR A VERY GOOD SHOUJO MANGA..
CHAPTER 108 ROCKED!!! :D
May 15, 2009, 03:26 PM
Chapter 109 (eng ) (http://www.mediafire.com/?w5vj3zzyanz)
Scanlated by: Me
Translations by : Ababanana
May 18, 2009, 02:26 PM
:faint I'm going to die! I swear I really love the cliffies of this manga :faint the last chapter only proves one thing, THEY CAN'T KEEP THEM APART! Love conquers all. Man, there is no other cliche greater than that, more overused that that, but nothing as effective as that. It never gets old. :wtf
and chapter 110 (http://mangahelpers.com/s/goong-scanlations/details/28713) is already up too. Really guys, thanks for picking this up.
Wow, the translators and scanlators are really speeding up and picking up fast! :nuts
thanks you guys!
grab chapter 111 here (http://mangahelpers.com/s/goong-scanlations/details/28806).
May 22, 2009, 03:44 AM
It's always been a heck of a roller-coaster, and from mmm, about chapter 99 or so the peaks and dips have been particularly wild. But, from the last chapter (111) to the current (112) my little internal narrator voice keeps saying "no, no, no!" And now I'm actually muttering at the pages themselves "oh, h--- no". As a reader, this is driving me right up the wall. Geh! the tension, the utter wrongness.
May 22, 2009, 01:07 PM
which is why I actually like Goong, this particular sunjeong, by the way the author keeps me on the edge unlike any other shoujo. it's like there's no end, just climax after climax after climax. ^^
waaaa I just read the latest chapter. I really hope shin's mom would reconsider. But I don't think she will in the next chapter yet, maybe in some 5 chapters.
I wish Chae gyung doesn't eat again, and gets diagnosed as clinically depressed, and the press will be all over it- Yul will see that whatever he does, CG is not happy and is suffering all because of him. The Royals will bend and allow Shin and CG to see each other- at least for a minute... :scry
June 30, 2009, 09:55 AM
OK, after reading all 115 chapters that are out in two nights >.<(I had to know what happend next every-time damn cliffhangers) I've decided I wanna Hyourin turn out to be infertile and cant bare a child and Yul to end up in a car crash dirty %$£"^%$£! But now in all seriousness I need more to get my fix O_o; Any idea the release rate of these I know from reading the previous posts the Scanlators / groups have only recently picked it up (Since a couple chapters ago)
July 11, 2009, 06:09 PM
Beginning of chapter 116- only 10 pages. I translated this from Chinese myself after being impatient with waiting for the english one to come out...there's a couple of mistakes but hopefully this will keep you guys happy until the real thing comes out.

July 11, 2009, 07:56 PM
I don't understand this series. There's so many sad and depressing moments. Is Shin into CG or not? Why did he propose to that girl if he is still in love with her? Arghh.. I'm so confused. I really don't understand the manhwaka. What is she trying to tell us? The misunderstanding in the series is so ginormous and the lack of communication between everyone. The only one who is good at verbalizing her feelings is that stupid girl. At least she made him promise not to use her. meh... i think Shin needs to see a shrink. lol.
July 11, 2009, 09:03 PM
haahaha I think, if there was no misunderstanding, then we'd all have to read about a lovey dovey couple for 20 volumes....and the author is trying to make the series last longer.
July 18, 2009, 09:56 AM
O my god this manga is making me go crazy Iv read up to ch116 it keeps going and going, come on wheres the happy ending!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This anime is jast as disappointing as Berserk:mad:mad:mad:mad:mad:mad:mad
August 06, 2009, 04:41 AM
honestly, i just read the latest chapters and it breaks my heart every singly time :( Can't there ever be a happy time, just once?
Can't they ever admit to themselves that they love each other? It's too painful, and the agony for the next chapter is long. And it's not like it will be alleviated because for sure, it will be another sad chapter.
*pulls hair off head*
March 14, 2010, 08:42 AM
there's been quite some development with the plot for this manga already. Scans seem to be on a regular basis now. Does anybody else read this and has something to say?
April 05, 2010, 02:38 AM
I'm just waiting for her to find out about Yul... Until then...I won't expect her and Shin to get back together. God I want Yul to get his arse beat. I can't stand characters who stalk the main character.
April 06, 2010, 03:22 AM
chapter 126 has been released. I'll look for some links...
Finally Shin and Chae Gyung meet! and better, shin is impatient!
Oddly, it starts as Shin being the hard-to-get, and this time their roles are reversed.
April 06, 2010, 08:00 AM
It's nice and interesting but then you know the author is going to tear them apart again. It has come to a point where it is agonizing for the readers too.
April 22, 2010, 12:54 AM
however, reading the latest chapters (up to 126, though 127 is out already!) I'm beginning to think this will be the final.
This has to be the point where they (CG and Shin) will have to face their feelings for each other, and finally battle it out together.
If that were to happen, the readers can relax, and the final hurdle would be them finding out about Yul and seeing it through that he gets punished for what he did. And the fact that they have to face the people and media again. How they will explain that they were in fact in love in the first place but some internal conflict was the cause of everything, how they can forgive everyone who made them suffer, etc.
Those challenges are big enough as they are, so the climax is only believable, and we readers can root for them better if they are together.
I just read the latest chapter 128. FINALLY things are moving! I thought, man, CG is hesitating again...
but i'm sure she won't! not this time! not after she hears what the King has to say about YUL! eeep!
August 29, 2010, 04:33 AM
I'm just bumping this thread since chapter 130 is out and you can get it from mangatraders.
May 22, 2012, 11:36 AM
did... Goong just end at 179 chapters??
