Well, I know Hoshino is really sick, so I'll try not to hyperventilate... :tem It's better that she takes longer break to recover rather than forcing herself to work and died or lapse into a coma. In my opinion, hiatus(es) is a lot better than an axed or normal ending(s) because you know there's a chance (even if it's slim) the series continues, but with ending, it's more painful because you know that it's the end.

The great thing about the extreme cliffhanger in the last chapter is that the suspense has hold of the fans. So even if there's another break, we're too curious to abandon DGM :D

Yay! another comparison discussion. Well I have to say, I'm currently reading FMA manga myself and I actually really like it. Though honestly speaking I'm taking sensei42's side on this one because alot of the comparisons people make between these two manga don't strike me as anything critical at all. That's because alot of the comparisons are just based on accessories not uncommon to alot of series having to deal with issues like war and religion. In fact, given these themes and ideals alot of the things compared, example: "The necessary evils adapted by the science devisions in both manga" and the organanization principles like a central office/headquarters is just part of the mix for any manga having to deal with things like war. In fact you could say that if these assets were absent then this would discredit the practicality of the manga. Just think how stupid it would be if the exorcist have been fighting the Earl all these years and never tried to implement organizational measures LOL, they would be non existent. As if they weren't losing hard enough already.

Ah now maybe she has a pre-existing back condition but being a mangaka wouldn't cause something like that to that severity, i'd be in the same position with my work and yes i do have back problems at times but that changes if a good chair is used and i had a wee accident years ago so it make more sense but I doubt that merely doing her job would cause something like that.

Like BexXx said, being a mangaka, there isn't enough trauma for something to cause paralysis. Whether there's a preexisting condition or not, this is more likely chronic pain due to her work (if it's a spinal thing in the first place) and/or genetics. Back/shoulder/neck issues are also caused or exasperated by stress, and being a mangaka is certainly stressful enough for that to happen.

I've read quite a few different things. All I know is that Hoshino is very unfortunate for such a young lady (she's only 32!).

It is 100% confirmed that she has a bad back. She mentioned that in an interview around the time DGM switched to Jump SQ.

It's rumored that she has a bad wrist. I think rumors of her getting wrist surgery came up around the Chapter 186 hiatus. I think there's a good chance of this being true as well. I didn't read any concrete proof like I did for the back rumor, but the rumors were still pretty credible.

The pregnancy rumors and the lawsuit rumors are BS. I still see people spreading them around on other manga forums, and they're both blatantly untrue.

Ha, lawsuit and pregnancy? No way. It would make sense if it's a ergonomics issue, considering how she has been distancing from a rapid schedule. I wonder if she worked too hard and injured herself, so she's had to step back pretty far. DGM shouldn't be considered monthly. It should be considered irregular (on average, I'd say 7 issues per year). Basically a volume per year. Not a bad goal for Hoshino to work towards, but fans should accept that.

I had always thought this would be a good idea not only for the sake of keeping us fans informed but also so fans can get feedback on some of the projects Hoshino has been involved in. Perhaps we could even get in a coule questions about the manga, which can be either a good or bad idea dependent on what fans are enquirring and commenting on. Getting feedback from the mangaka detailing her reasons and feelings could really improve fans' appreciation of her work.

God, I swear, just read it! It has everything that could've happened during the three months timeskip in Lavi's (and Noah's) POV. There are, like, every possible theory about the Noah and Bookman. There even a theory about Cross being Bookman's lost apprentice. This is the long-awaited masterpiece! No need to worry abour OOC-ness; every character is keep, well, in character. Just...perfect.

It really shows the Noah as a REAL family and **...I can't express my love of this. Every single DGM fan out there, READ IT!

P.S.: By the way, no need to worry about any Yaoi; the story is for every DGM fan—no Yaoi or Yuri or Het.

JUST realised smth while re-reading some d gray man chaps! when the apocalypse attacked allen, he voided link's memory of what had occured, making allen seem responsible for what occurred. hence without any proof allen would be held responsible for the attack or discord at the order. but tim was there and since tim can record things that occurred visually, he can re-view it to the order or whom ever to prove allen's innocence right?

That theory about the magical clan probably came from a headcanon that the fon Fabre royal family from Tales of the Abyss probably married and had children within themselves Luke's mother had some terminal illness and also at how in Harry Potter, the descendants of Slytherin did this out of pride and stuff.

Almost forgot the fon Fabre family did do that. It's been awhile since I touched that game. O__o Well, at least Luke doesn't have to worry about that considering "who" he is.


For the role of Raoul, it could be Lenalee or Kanda depending if you pair Lenalee or Kanda with Allen more. The image showed in DGM-site is the last page of chapter 214, when it should be one from chapter 215, the latest chapter. I don't remember well but I think this site isn't updated every time we get a chapter. At least, when I checked it sometimes, it wasn't. For the moment, I think we don't have to worry. And last time, we get spoilers the 2nd July. Let's wait a bit more!!!:^_^

This is good news, because it means that every chapter from now on will have 30+ pages. If she draws any more 19 page chapters the volume will have to be delayed, and I doubt her editor would willingly delay Volume 24 after 23 was already delayed.

Also, Viz is publishing Volume 23 in December. That's only five months after Volume 22, which is pretty awesome for us.

Maybe we are getting two chapters. Hoshino does need to fill Volume 24 before November comes, and she's had more than enough time to make two chapters. She still paces DGM like it's a weekly series, so it would be good if she made 19-page chapters from now on and released two of them each month so the story can actually make some progress.

That's what I think as well. There's only so much that could be blamed on an illness. LOL She spoiled a few things in CharaGray so I can't imagine how hard it would be not to unintentionally reveal something in the chapters.

Most definitely not true. I have to say, rumors about Hoshino get weirder and weirder every time a new rumor starts. First it was a lawsuit over alleged plagiarism (I still hear about this 4 years later), then it was Hoshino being pregnant. Then I heard some crazy rumors about Hoshino dying from an illlness in 2009 and her death being covered up by the editors. And now there's this rumor that she outright killed herself. The poor woman never catches a break.

Viz puts the back covers on DGM volumes, which is really nice. Most publishers don't like changing their format after 20 consistent volumes, but Viz did.

And D.Gray-man is getting a 3-in-1 edition from Viz starting next year! I'm a huge DGM fan so I'll probably double dip, but this is also a great chance to get 3 volumes at a time for really cheap if you haven't had the opportunity to support Hoshino and this amazing manga yet. It will probably be anywhere from 12 to 15 dollars on The Book Depository, and they ship worldwide for free.

The truth is that very few manga artists do it alone. Go read Bakuman as it gives a fairly accurate portrait of how manga is made. Professional artists have assistants who do all the things like inking, backgrounds etc.

That main character list always gets me. They started off by listing important characters from Chapter 189 onwards, so you get the odd scenarios of Alma being the third main character and Lenalee being ninth. And the three Noahs listed are Road, Tyki, and Wisely, with no mention of Jasdevi/Lulu Bell/Cyril.

Thankfully the main character lists in the actual volumes are still accurate. It's interesting looking at Volume 2's character list and Volume 19's because it gives you a perspective of how much the series has grown.

Well, Anime take months and months of negotiation. Then there's directors and editors and cast members and contracts... Anime usually aren't even announced until there's promotional material available, and that's done pretty late in the stage. So a DGM sequel could definitely be in the works.

I'd love another 52-episode season, but I'm not sure if there's enough material. There would have to be a lot of filler, in any case, so maybe 26 episodes would be a better idea. They can end it after Allen leaves the Order. Cross's disappearance, the Timothy arc, the Alma Karma arc, and the Seed of Destruction arc could probably fill up 26 episodes.

It's this time of month again... I'm staying cautiously optimistic about the next chapter.

Hoshino really needs to get out of the 'one volume per year' routine though. In a couple of days Viz will be caught up with Japan. That's an awesome thing for North American fans because DGM will probably have near-simultaneous releases from now on, but it's a clear sign that it isn't being published fast enough if the translators are faster than the author.

Most mangaka are reclusive by nature, but Hoshino definitely takes it a step further. We didn't even know her gender until 2008. And in that one video of her drawing a picture of Allen and the Millennium Earl she went on a rapid fire apology spree after drawing Allen's pentacle upside down. If she were an Anime character, she would be the clumsy, shy girl who apologizes profusely all the time.

^ So far, that section of the site is primarily everything you'll see at JF (concerning Jump souvenir goods). Unless there's something added in during the month of December, for now, it's just safe to say that there isn't any sign of any manga news or a new anime.

However, it's still a bit early to say what else could happen at the event if the site changes to add more stuff to it. ^^; You'll never know.

Kanda saves Lavi. Allen wakes up to find himself on top of a blown up Tim. Allen finds Kanda and Lavi. A sudden glimpse of "past memory" tells Allen that he knows how to heal Lavi. Then, the arc would end so suddenly that no one would ever see that coming! :zomg

I really hope the next chapter (218) touches on the story between the Earl/Mana/14th and Allen.

I already had that feeling, since the moment we saw that scene, that Allen will never be completely taken over by the 14th. If Allen and Nea were friends, then, there's no way Allen will completely disappear. It seemed the past!Allen knew what he was doing until something happened that caused him to "de-age(?)". Still suspect that the Apo guy has something to do with all of this. If he could easily EASILY mess with people's memories, then, I wouldn't be surprised if he caused Allen to have a "blank" memory.

Now, I wonder if it's appropriate to call Allen an "old man", huh? I think back to that chapter about Allen and Lavi exchanging their ages.

Allen: "Well, looks like I had a former life after all. That makes me....your SENIOR!! Bwahahha..."

Like the past Allen most likely did not have innocence when he gave his body over to Nea, otherwise im sure Nea would have never agreed to it. What if he gained his innocence by some weird accident and thats what caused the de-age, Apo probably changed his memories about the time Allen started to become known as Red at the circus and Mana probably took him in knowing he had his brothers soul, and what if the moment he cursed Allen he caused the de-aging to reverse?

All i know is that there its going to be something crazy to try and connect so many dots together!

Volume 23 had 7 chapters, but it also had 3 short chapters (including the 15-page "A Fellow Traveler"). So this should be the last chapter in Volume 24.

I'm hoping we get a proper resolution to Allen and the Earl. And I really want the Earl to be on Volume 24's cover, though I'm guessing it will probably be Link and/or Apocryphos.

I won't keep my hopes up. I also thought we'd get a bookman arc after the Alma arc, but we got a time skip instead.
I think Hoshino had a perfect moment to start a bookman arc back then. Now we gotta wait till she sets another moment in manga for that. And then, we will finally have some Lavi tine hopefully.

Hey man, patience. I want to see Lavi too. You're right though, Hoshino even said that the Bookman arc was supposed to come after the Alma arc but she delatyed it for this arc. So his arc is scheduled to occur after this one. I actually don't mind the delay though, because not only did she put Lavi in an awesome position (for his character), I think the bookman arc may just be more informative and i'll even bet that it'll be better than the current arc. You know what they say, save the best for last, or in this case save the better for after ^^ I'm really hoping Lavi's character gets a boost in that arc just like Kanda has in this arc (crossing my fingers)

I know, it's great to see him again. Being captured and tortured by the noah, I don't think he's smiling much lol poor lavi. @Capricorn: I didn't know there would be a bookman arc, that's kinda exciting to know. and I think you make a good point saying that it would be better if the bookman arc comes after this one. Hoshino has been using this arc like a set up, showing us the tension in the black order and showing us the crap Allen is going thru(that kid never gets a break). She keeps showing us mana, nea, and the earl's past for some reason. I think a bookman arc would clarify alot of things one being why the earl is so pissed of at the innocence and why he started this war, even if he started this war. I hope she tells us a who exactly "Allen" is. am I asking too much? I just want some answers :)

Going off the course of the chapter titles we've been having lately I don't think it's a stretch to think we're headed into a full-blown mini-arc on Allen's identity and relation to the soup bros.

In all seriousness, I really hope so, but who knows? It would kind of suck to have to wait another month now that things are really heating up. However, for me at least, this bad luck in releases seems almost normal now. I'm less ravenous for them all the time and am just really ridiculously happy when we're fortunate enough to get one. I literally had to scream into a pillow when we got 218, I was that happy. And, of course, it goes without saying that Hoshino's health comes first.

I'm going to study in South Africa (leaving later today) for a few months, and I've been warned that there's no internet connection where I'm going, so I won't be around for a while.. :oh I'm dying to read the new chapter, but that will have to wait :gwah ... Mana was added on the characters page: http://jumpsq.shueisha.co.jp/rensai/d-greyman/index.html and I think we are getting a chapter this month because the page of the latest chapter was updated with the 218 night... lets hope so!!

Having Mana added tells me that we're going to see a lot more of him on the main plot line, which makes me excited! Finally, we'll get to know who Mana really is and how he altered history with Neah. And I would be very sad if there was no chapter this month, I'm counting on it!
