Yesterday, GK and I happen to chat a bit about Star Wars and I thought it could be interesting to see your points of view.

What do you think of Star Wars in general? Do you like it or not?

Is it better than other science-fiction-series you know (i.e. Star Trek)?

Which Star Wars do you like better? The "older" one (episode IV-VI) with Han Solo, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa or the "newer" one (episode I-III) with Anakin Skywalker and Obi wan Kenobi?

I personally like the old series better. I like the charming character of Han Solo and the story was more interesting. Episode I and II were quite boring IMO. III was ok but quite bombastic with all those special effects and overall it doesn't reach my love for ep IV-VI.

So, gimme your opinions, ok? ;)

i think the older ones are better than the new series...but i must say i never become a fan of star wars. i always thought that the story could be told in a better way..but other than that thanx to star wars, so that science-fiction type films had fought enough support from movie makers :)

The sith should have won they have so much uber powers and yet they lost?????????????????
And yeah the old series was better. However I wished darth vader abused the death star more often.

Edit: for all star wars fans with nothing to do, go to funny flash movies thread in fun forum :smile-big

The OT are my favourite movies of all times. ^___^ (Of course, Empire is best out of those three).

I'm also a fan of the old series as well. Especially considering the new episodes I practically hated until the third episode.

Though, I had made a vow not to watch Episode 3 after Episode 2 (which had disgusted me so much it's one of the few movie rants I've ever done on any forum) but after hearing so much about how good Episode 3 was, I decided to give it a try. Episode 3 WAS good. But Episodes 1-3 is still total crap compared to Episodes 4-6. I even liked the special effects better in the old series for the most part, since they at the very least looked believable. Lucas tried to cram TOO much eye candy in Episodes 1-3 in comparison.

3 was awesome as well! The battles were baffling, and the final dialouge between Anakin and Obi was so emotional. ;_;[br]Posted at: February 21, 2006, 08:30:45 AM_________________________________________________And now for a classic link:

Original Trilogy all the way, when Vader was menacing and evil, and just made you think "Wow what a bad ass!" Now, after the new trilogy its...hard to see him in that same light. Because well Lucas messed up Ep. III by not wanting acting and just special effects, which making some of Obi-Wans lines sound like something out of a bad Soap Opera >_< But you cant beat the original, there was actual emotion going on, the Lightsaber battles were more personal and really you couldnt see all the openings like you can in the new trilogy saber fights, I still laugh at Episode II with Anakin facing Dooku and he basically opens his arms out to give Dooku a hug (what it looks like) and gets his hand lopped off.

I stand by some the people that said for those that made Knights of the Old Republic should of made the new trilogy I think they could of done a better job with story and so much more then what Lucas did, he kind of killed some his long time characters. I think they should of ripped away his money towards the end and tried to get him to go back to how he used to do it and make at least the last movie better then it was.

I laughed more than was impressed :amuse

It made for GOOD comedy, but I didn't think it was all that believable. I always imagined Yoda as a sort of Force's version of Sidious, being able to harness the Force and using it as sort of wizardry if you will. I didn't expect him to be a lightsaber-handling type of combatant at all.

Yes! The only good thing about the Star Wars prequel is the Yoda fight scenes... really!

And I really hate this scene:

Anakin: "Master, whaterver happened to Padme?"
Darth Sidious/Palpatine: "It seems that Padme died....blah, blah, blah" (he,he,he)
Anakin: "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooh!!!!"
then explosions... (so lame)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Maybe we could do this scene:

Me: "Whatever will happen to the Naruto Anime Series...."
TokyoTV: "It seems that we will be showing you more fillers..." (he,he,he)
Me: "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!!!" (shall I add more Os?) :p

Miso

Yeah....the story of ep 1 - 3 was kinda lame.
I think that the 3d ep out of these is the best but when I recently watched it again I noticed that it was so boring that I stopped it.
When I watched it in cinema it was quite ok though.

I have heard that originally there should be 9 episodes. The current 6 ones and then 3 which should play after the Luke Skywalker blabla part (ep 4-6). Is that right?

Hermie
March 26, 2006, 12:32 PM
3 was glorious. :mad

And there is no plan for 7-9. Lucas has said a lot of times that "the Star Wars saga has always been about the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker", so there isn't really a reason to make them..

fan of star wars but i thought new series was bull in most ways. i only found the fights somewhat enjoyable but story was weak overall i thought, in all honesty i thought starwars ep 1 was the biggest crap i expreicned in relation to starwars. but the old series, now thats great, great great GREAT.

i hope g.lucas doesnt add more to starwars, although great as it may be, i think its somewhat dead now.

Lucas doesn't plan on making Episodes 7-9 now. But they're available as novels, I think.

Could be thinking of something else, though, but I know there's been post-Jedi Returns novels published about further adventures of Luke Skywalker and company.

It actually came out, during the 90s... It's about Luke SkyWalker rebuilding the Republic... Lord Sidious lives again through a soul transfer - clone technique, (sounds like Orochimaru's Immortality technique) Luke Skywaker joins Lord Sidious becomes a Darth Lord... then Princess Leia's twins saves the day... Luke returns to the light.... (something like that story) ... :hinata

No book that has been published about post-Jedi is considered G-level canon. There's a lot of different storylines about it, New Jedi Order being the biggest and most endorsed. I lean towards the Jedi Knight-games' storyline myself, because Kyle Katarn simply rocks. ^_^

I have 6 books of New Jedi Order but I'm not too fond of it until now....It's ok but it doesn't have the charme of episode 4 - 6.
And Hermie, I also loved the games! Kyle Kartan is cool! :)
My favourite is the Jedi Knight 3 (Jedi Academy) one.
But I also like the "Knights Of the Old Republic" games. I must say that the story of the first game was amazing. I really liked it, very interesting.

I just checked wikipedia and the New jedi order appear to be the canonical storyline. and kyle katarn is a part of the new jedi. so he is canon too and that is sweet. cause that means that the mutated rancor is canon too. how fun is that.... hehehehe mutated rancors....

Whoa...I hated the mutated rancors! :mad

Well...but it's nice that New Jedi Order is the canonical story. It has one of my favourite characters: Mara Jade. She was first introduced in the books of Timothy Zahn and I really liked her. I mean: the former Right Hand of the Imperator! Wow!

Again, no books, video games, comic books, cartoons, action figures or christmas TV specials are real canon. The only G-level (George-level = proper canon) are the movies, and stuff that comes directly from Lucas' mouth. level under would be the official books/comic books that are direct adaptions of the movies.

Lucas isn't even that fond of EU (though, he did add Dax Rendars ship (from Shadows of the Empire) taking off in the background on Tatooine in Hope).

(but yes, Mara Jade is also awesome)

But it was fun. Mission based solely on speed. Same as that cool hoverbike mission.

Speaking of movies, it's kind of amazing seeing the way SFX industry has gone from "A New Hope" to "Revenge of Sith". Man, how oldschool the door closing speceffect looks. But I agree with you that the original appeal of StarWars has been lost in the new trilogy.
But there's nothing we can do that's the "sequel curse". Only a few movies have been able to avoid it.

Getting back to the novels: try "heir to the empire" ... i personally love that story, i had hoped for so lang that they'd actually film that book. google around a little and try to find it.

It is set 5 years after "Return" and features the beginning of the new republic and the fall of the last remenants of the empire .... atleast ... they had hoped it would be that easy.

Though Yoda's fight scene is one of my favourite fight scene, but the Anakin and Amidala's romantic scene really kills the joy of watching Star Wars and because Mace Windu died in ep 3 (i still want his saber), i prefer the original trilogy (ep 4, 5 and 6).

is "disco star wars" its awesome, even if you dont like disco. serriously, go on limewire, or kazaa or somthing and download it.

my favorite character is most def Wedge (4,5,6, EU, R), then in no particular order, anakin solo (EU), Corran Horn (EU, R), Gavin Darklighter(EU, R), (i think thats how you spell his last name), Wes Janson (ep. 5, Wedge's gunner ("nice shot, janson!"), EU, R interesting fact: first pilot to ever bring down a ATAT walker by tripping it), Derek "Hobbie" Klivian (ep. 5 ("two starfighters against a star destroyer?"), EU,R), Syal Antilles (EU, wedge's older daughter, not a rogue yet, but she will be. mark my words), Jaina Solo (EU, R), Jacen Solo (EU), Tycho Celchu (6 (wedge: "split up; head to the surface, and see if you cant get some of those fighters to follow you" Tycho: "Got it, Gold leader") EU, R. was in the battle of hoth, not sure if he was in the movie or not). not one of my favorites, but my most favoritly named characters are Elan Sleazbago ("wanna buy some deathsticks?") and Jed Porkins ("ive got some trouble here" "eject" "no, i can hold it" "pull up!" "i can... AGGHHHHH" (kinda a rogue. wedge refers to him as one in "X-wing: Rogue Squadron", so ill call him one.)4,R)
R = was in rogue squad at some point
Ive all but memorized the orginal triology, and ive also read the Thrawn Triology, all of the NJO books, ive begun the new "legacy" era books, ive got the first of the hand of thrawn books and am looking for the second, and am currently re-reading the nine-book "x-wing" series for the third time.

its interesting... you can tell which books were writen when just by the way the authors were writing. in the thrawn trilogy, Zahn only names wedge and Tycho as Rogues. everyone else in the squad is just "rogue seven", "rogue nine", etc. (i put names with 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 9 immediatly (Wedge, Tycho, Wes, Hobbie, Gavin, Corran, respectfully)) in the doulogy, or at least in spectre of the past, Corran, Wedge, Tycho, and Janson are all named as rogues. also Booster is in it, along with mirax, and valin. Zahn, in a way, tips his hat to the other writters. one of the small things ive noticed is the Starry Ice, the ship Mara is on in "specre of the past" is briefly mentioned in book 4 of X-wing (The Bacta War) as being in an ambush the rogues fend off (two dozen fighters, several freightors, and a light cruiser vs. a star destroyer, a interdictor cruiser, and 3 squads of TIEs; rogues win, losing only 2 pilots from the back up squad, the SD is destroyed, the cruiser ran for it, and only 12 out of 36 of the TIEs survived; i love it). another thing i like is how "X-wing: Isard's Revenge" and "The Last Command" overlap.

i wonder if anyone can tell me about the Errent Venture (a pink star destroyer under Booster's control). when does he get it? i know he has it by the hand of thrawn, and i think i remember somthing about him having one during Thrawn's reign, but he isnt in Zahns trilogy at all....

Well, my favorite books are Rebel Stand and Rebel Dream in the NJO era, and my favorite authors are Allson, Zahn, Denings, and Stackpole, respectfully.

[color=green][b]when it comes to things... like that, my favorite was Star by Star, cus the is the whole battle for coruscant. the like forth battle of coruscant i beleive. and for a fortress planet, every damn time its attacked, the defenders lose. on top of that, star by star has anakin going super saiyan. my favorite book is rebel dream (the first of that doulogy) as it has the best entrance for a super star destroyer ever... right into the middle of a friggin fleet. its funny, allston described the enemy comander really well, especailly when his command area is blown away and he floots into space.

im guessing the part you like isnt chewy and anakin so much as it is the whole moon thing. ya, that had to suck. or do you mean the missle strike? nom anor was quite good at being a royal pain, wasnt he?

oh, and to answer your question, my long term memory is close to winter's and Kirten Loor; if ive read it, i will always remember it, hearing is quite as good, but is still better than most. contralally (or however that is spelt) my short term memory stinks. like poo.smelly poo. smelly brown poo. smell brown poo with a kernal of corn in it. so yes. im a walking star wars encyclopedia

ok, i suck at explaining stuff but ill try again:
what i mean with believable, is that when Chewie died. It gave the star wars universe more depth. The heroes can still die.
you see, im not a big fan of the whole "you cant kill the hero" thing that (mostly) hollywood throws at us all the time. i like to be surprised and unless the character is in fact immortal then they should be able to die.
and when a planet is kerploding all around you then the odds are not in your favour. its a big friggin chance that youre gonna die. and chewie did. so to me it gave the star wars saga more depth.

and are you sure about him screaming to Han to come back for him? I interpreted it as defiance but i can be wrong, it happens to me all the time :D

in the next few books whenever anakin or han look back, thats how they described it, so thats what i went with. you should read some of the smaller ones. i can name about 20 rogues off the top of my head that get vaped (one that crashes into a death star), and talon 12's death rocked! i really do suggest you read star by star. you'd like it. also the one with tahiri getting tortured by the vong you would prolly like, but i cant think of its name of the top of my head. oh and i remembered where booster got the venture, so no need for anyone to look for the answer to that anymore.

*shrugs* book stores, maybe on limewire, if your lucky, but it is a 500+ page book; you dont want to read it off of a monitor. its in the njo series, and its by troy dening (translation sex is writen in, but no details. his books come the closest. well, except for "wedge's gamble" that sence between corran and erisi is a little closer). at this point, a little more than half of the new republic has been conquered by the scar heads, and fearsome beasts designed by the vong from animals on Myrkr are hunting down and destroying the jedi. oh, and... well, this is a spoiler to the stuff before this book [color=green][b]tahiri and Anakin shared their first kiss in a locker in a decompressd Yagh'dul station locker room. dening said later he wanted to put a scene in his book between anakin and tahiri but the star wars people wouldnt let him.
