A nice and logical thought was born from the current situation in many countries: There are more and more power supply lines required, especially due to the growth of ecological energy (which often can only be produced at certain places, other than electricity in normal power plants). At the same time, many citizens are worried that these supply lines will spoil the landscapes around their homes.

This is where especially the scandinavian countries and some others had a nice idea: Just make the pylons look great, to increase acceptance! This can also be cheaper for the industry, because often citizens file lawsuits against new supply lines near their cities.

Here are some concepts for such: http://www.thegreenchildren.org/tgcf/foundationpress/tag/competition/

The "man statue pylons" in the beginning can be arranged in a way so they suit the landscape. For example they can look like climbing up a cliff.
And, yeah, seriously, who would complain about such nice pylons as much as about the usual, grey, ugly ones?

The parabolic ones even claim to use less material and less spacing than usual pylons, so they might be even more economic for the industry to produce.

All of this has specific relevance in Germany. Most areas good for green energy production are in the northern regions, whereas the majority of energy consumption happens in the south. At the same time, citizens really love lawsuits against enterprises like raising power lines.

Related to that: Decorated gas tanks in Japan! Hoorai for Magikarp!

They definitely look good...and I think it is acceptable in landscapes like that first pic...but when we are talking about rivers, lots of nature, diversity and such, it shouldn't be allowed...
The concept and the shape of those pylons...I like them, futuristic is good

I don't think that these are actually damaging a lot, most are just going through farmland and along streets anyways usually. I don't really see what damage they could do to rivers.
Many germans like underground cables, but there are two downsides:
1) for the industry: It's many times more expansive
2) This is actually damaging environment, by killing most plants in a 10m-stripe above.

In Germany there is a research with DB (German Railroads) to combine rail and power network, which would be another great idea for supply routes obviously.
Another idea is to have power lines combined with freeways.

I'm not really talking about damage of ecosystems or whatnot...but more like an aesthetic damage...when mentioning rivers, mountains, landscapes where nature is in its purest form
