View Full Version : Recipes How do you prefer your drinks?

Almost every one of us have drank out of at least two ways, whether it be can, glass bottle, plastic bottle, or cup. What container do you prefer your drinks be in?

I prefer cup, at least for sodas because they taste better. Cans are my least liked because they're small and just, bleh. The taste isn't really that good as opposed to bottles, even.

As a kid, I liked drinking from cans.

As a young teenager, I preferred plastic bottles.

As an adult, I just drink from whatever is available to me with no real preference.

For me, it seems that my age correlates with the container I prefer drinking from.

I hate drinking from cans.... I can actually taste the metal a few times. Overall I prefer glass bottles, specially for beer. On another note, I want to punch people who drink beer with ice, its absurd.

Guess I'd be seeing you in the ring lol.

Personally, I do it rarely. Only when my beer ain't cold enough because I could live with with the slight change in taste and watered down flavor.

For cold beverages such as soda or juice, I prefer my drink in a glass cup. However, I'm a klutz by nature so I'm more prone to spill the drink.

If I'm drinking something warm such as tea, I like to drink it from a mug.

Glass cup is still a cup, not a bottle. Glass bottle is a bottle, like soda bottle, but with glass. :x Snapple in a glass bottle? Beer in glass bottle, like Corona?

I feel betrayed, Sari. :sad

You let your beer get cold?! BLASPHEMY! Lol, to be honest I don't get the whole ice thing at all. I am not from the US but when I am there I find it remarkably strange that people would put ice on drinks that are cold to begin with. I hate to go to a restaurant or the movies and have people fill my cup with crushed ice without even asking (I do tend to forget to tell them to keep the ice away from my already cold coke but still lol).

For me the most evil SOB in history is the bastard who made it a part of US culture to add monumental amounts of ice to everything. What's the point of ordering a drink if more than half of it is ice to begin with? Just that alone must have made soft drink margins considerably higher lol (wish I was in on that lol).

You don't?! Abomination! Lol. Beer and soda taste best when cold. The answer to why people put ice in already cold drinks is simple: The colder, the better. Also, I personally don't drink soda fast (albeit being bad for my teeth), so the drink has the tendency of getting warm. With ice in it, it stays cooler for longer, even if the impact is minimal. Some people could also prefer their drinks slightly watered down. I could also chew on what's left of the ice lol.

Anyway, if I worked in a restaurant and someone requested to have no ice, I'd just take the liberty of filling their cup only 3/4 full lol. The 'bastard who made it part of US culture' is a hero lol.

But you can still easily get an ice cold drink without the ice to water it down. Of course a cold drink is better than a warm one but it's just a matter of drinking it before it gets warm. I'd have a warm beer over a watered down one any day though (in fact, I have had such a beer). The germans have it right in that regard. I have heard of US people suffering over people not finding ice for their drinks. I have always wanted to go to England to have one of their warm beers too lol(apparently they serve beer warm, even when its beer that would be considered strong in USA lol).

I guess Freid don't mind putting ice in his beer because American beers are already so watery it does not change the taste that much....

But I'm 100% behind you kkck, this tendency to put ice everywhere is really weird. When a drink is too cold it looses all its taste plus it is bad for the digestion. In Australia they have these rolls they put around the beer bottles to keep it cold. I forgot the name.

kkck, I'm a naturally slow drinker, so trying to finish the drink while it's cold by drinking fast would only make me enjoy it less.

The topic is not really as black and white as to say whether or not it makes sense, and it's not that people are ignorant of the facts. The choice to add ice or not into your drink is subjective and is more about respective preference. It's understandable that for people that buy soda with the intention of maximizing their money's worth, it probably wouldn't be a sensible decision to add ice to their drink, as it would reduce the amount that they would actually get in the cup. However, quantity is evidently secondary to taste in a lot of people's point of view, including mine. So, adding ice with the intention of keeping the drink cooler for longer at the cost of having their actual drink reduce in quantity, could seem like a much better bargain to many people.

I don't like ice in my drinks either, I don't wanna taste the water from the melted ice with my drinks, I want the taste of drinks itself. With ice, near the end with water, it tastes bad. :\

Hmm, that is true. But I can't help it if I want my drink to be cold fast. XD

I prefer my drinks in cups. I can bring it anywhere, "modify" it the way I like... Drinking from the bottle is impolite (XD), drinking from cans is not comfortable, so of course the best is using cups. :)

I never heard of drinking from a bottle as being impolite unless you got a full blown bottle of tequila or anything not meant to be drunk by yourself lol (specially if they give you a bottle but no glass). I do agree in that drinking from a glass is the most comfortable thing.... I am pretty sure you can taste the cans when you drink from one lol.

Then blow on it? :oh Ice is good, but the problem is, it melts and adds extra water to the drink. -.- I'm thinking about fountain drinks when I say this though.

It does look impolite, but oh well. Besides, putting drinks in cup gives it a better taste. Roawr.

I don't really have a preference, overall, but I always tell the waiters not to bring a glass for the beer...I enjoy it more from bottle...and it doesn't get warm either:beer...other alcoholic stuff, I really like to use a straw, so that way I don't think the container actually matters:p...as for non-alcoholic stuff...well I'm really indifferent in that area, so...

Well, what you said inside brackets is special case, meh. XD But in my country it is something considered quite impolite... Of course you can do it at home, with only families watching, but still we are advised not to do so. Such etiquette. ^^"

You want me to blow it 'till I'm blue? :o Haha, yes, that is true, though. It destroys the taste in most drinks, iced tea especially for me, but when I drink soft drinks like Coca Cola or Sprite I tend to put ice since they can be too sweet. My mother taught me that. :|

And yep, agree about the cup. XD

I have nothing to say for alcoholic drinks. XD I see my parents drink it a bit once in a while, but they always use cups too. :3

I can never be bothered pouring into a glass, acup or a mug lol. And I don't drink from cans either, so its bottles for me by default.

On another note, I don't drink alcohol and beer tastes like shit if I did! So its water and fruit juice for me. (On that last note, you left out an option for cartons.)

Interesting question which I have never been asked before, in real life or online XD For some reason, when I drink from a cup it tastes different :S Plastic bottles are okay, but as my parents seem to always say, drinking from them all the time isn't good for my health -sigh- Glass bottles? No. So that only leaves the last option: can. I don't drink beer or coke at all, probably once or twice within a year, but for some reason it feels nicer to the lips than anything else.

It doesn't normally make a difference for me from what I drink, but it always depends on the mood and situation. When I'm at some party with friends I normally drink beer from glass bottles or from cans. When I'm at hom with my family I drink from a glass cup. When I'm in a bar I normally drink from a bottle, but if it's something more like a restaraunt the give beer only in glass cups.:)

Beer doesn't taste like shit!

Anyways, my position hasn't changed much since I last wrote here. drinking out of a can plainly sucks, it ruins the drink and frankly, it is a tad uncomfortable. Glass cup or bottle is definitely the way to go.

It bloody well does taste like shit! ;) I guess its an 'acquired taste', which means that if you drink it often enough, you people convince yourself you like it lol. Wine sucks too!

And you're right, cans are uncomfortable, I don't remember the last time I drank out of a can. I usually drink soy milk or orange juice out of cartons, other than that its glass and plastic bottles for me. Ginger beer, tonic water and lemonade FTW.

Beer is an acquired taste, which is a statement I never believed since I didn't drink til I was 19 and now there's nothing better than a cold beer during a hot summer's day.

As for how I like my drink; in whatever I can put it in. When I go out I drink in glasses as that's how they serve it you. If I'm at home and having wine for example, I'm not going to wash a wine glass just so I could drink out of it. I'll use whatever I have.

Well different strokes for different folks, I mean some boys don't even like strokes of the cane! ;)

And I still notice there's no option to vote for cardboard cartons in the poll, either the ones with a straw or the ones with a thingy on the top makin it a cardboard bottle.

Well, you wouldn't regularly drink out of a carton lol. Anyways, I do like tetrapack. Back when I lived at the states I was unfortunately caught in the whole milk scam.... As we all know milk there is sold in gallon or litter plastic bottles and as a result milk goes bad in a week even in the fridge. This means that at most you can buy 1 gallon of milk at a time meaning that if you intend on having milk for breakfast regularly you need to go to the store at a bare minimum once a week. More so, milk is located at the farthest corner possible from the entrance of the supermarket so even though you want to buy "only" milk you end up getting a bunch of other stuff which you either remembered, want to try or simply got a craving for as you walked by(I had known that for years and yet I never walked out of that damn place with just milk lol)... If I could buy tetrapack I would be able to buy 20 liters of it at a time and go to buy it once a month lol. The sheer amount of gas that is spent every year to get just milk is probably quite remarkable to say the least. Someone should do a research on the environmental effects of taking that weekly trip to get milk that everyone in the US must have done 50 times a year lol.

Actually, most of the things I drink are out of cartons (soy milk and fruit juice). Only the fizzy pop I drink comes out of glass and plastic bottles. And no, I can never be bothered to pour anything I drink into a cup or a drinking glass.

No I'm not, I don't want germs from anyone else's mouths and the cups or glasses might be dirty. But I also can't be bothered to pour, it's one of those pointless habits other people have.

And don't worry, I take things literally.

Well, under the scenario that you only drink straight out of the carton and that you had 1 liter cartons (It seems more logical than having a bunch of the smaller kiddie ones) then you would putting your own saliva on them (unless you took the trouble of drinking without touching the carton) and then you would put it back in the fridge with all your germs (which are 99% the same germs you would find in the mouth of other people) to fester and multiply. Then you would return and drink again.... Drinking straight out of a plastic bottle would be pretty similar in that regard though. On the other hand, that pointless habit would pretty much save you the festering germs from the carton lol (specially since you could make sure there aren't germs on your glasses every time).

How does everyone feel about rum? Lately I have actually begun to enjoy it... Cocktails and drinks with rum seem smoother than things with tequila or vodka and the taste of rum seems somewhat nicer overall. Any thoughts(or drinks :p) on rum?

Been into rum for a while, Navy Rum particularly Lamb's Navy Rum (http://www.frazierswine.co.uk/product_images/l/387/Lamb's_Navy_Rum__74613_zoom.jpg). For cocktails...hmmmm not sure, will look for some.

I cannot drink alcohol; can't stand the stuff. Sweet drinks are my vice.
