i read like 50 chapter of fairy tail. I stopped cuz i didn't saw any progression in the main story(thinking about it i still don't know what's the main story),i didn't saw any connections between the arcs, and i didn't find the main goal of Lucy (to find igneel) interesting. But u're right there is little similarities with one piece.

Dude I read one piece from the very start and had the same need of new manga's about a year ago and I discoverd by myself Fairy Tail Katetkyo hitman Reborn History's strongest disciple kenichi ( side characters drawings not so good imo) Bakuman (not a fighting manga) and some others. (Of course I was already reading Naruto and Bleach when feeling that need)
But it all depends what do you want in a Manga because their ain't 2 one piece or 2 pirate manga with such a story.
Here are some of my personal tips:

Seinen (more mature contents not in the sense of Echi) Psyren , Berserk , Highschool of the Dead
Sports: Hajime no Ippo , Air Gear
no fighting shounen: Bakuman
Manwha (korean manga and quite good imo) : The Breaker 'and breaker new waves' , Ares
Shounen (Martial arts): History's strongest disciple Kenichi , Gamaran , Aiki
Rest :Fairy Tail (quest and defending friends)
Beezlebub (Fighting, demon powers and funny)
Hunter X Hunter (Quest and friendship but on Hiatus)
GTO (Teacher and teaching of life see earlier series of author because using same character and envolving through time)
Katekyo Hitman Reborn (Friendship and Mafia)
Naruto (Ninja)
Bleach ( After death and fighting and friendship)

Hey ^^

I'm looking for a new manga to read.

I've read/am reading Bleach, Psyren, Naruto, Death Note, Dragonball.

I'm mainly looking for action mangas that are set on earth,

Anyone know any good ones?

You'd probably like Full Metal Alchemist, one of my favorites, if you like action. I would also suggest One Piece or Hunter x Hunter.

Hello people. i know most of u guys have 2 much time on your hands cause otherwise no forum ever could manage as many hits per second as you guys.

except a porn site.

im wondering if your combined knowldge of badass characters can help me im sure it can.

im making a video for a song called Humble Pie, and im thinking about a sytle similar 2 Lazyboys - Underwear goes inside the pants (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahlWufJqcSQ) this video is just a series of still images and i want 2 capture the same effect only i want every picture 2 invole a badass charachter or at least badass scene, the image has 2 be kind of relevent 2 the song tho so if anybody could come up with an image of a person looking back over there shoulder and looking seriously scared could be great.

im open 2 all ideas anybody has got. though the 2 cerrtainty is that "the bad guy from No Country For Old Men" is what the band said when i wasked them who it was about, so im thinking that the 1st picture of the song has 2 be him.

i should also point out that characters from any kind of media will be fine so long as there badass that means movie, tv, comic, manga, anime you name it charaters can be included.

some criteria for badass ness

Triple Badass - Only the baddest **** ever go in this catagory. (Generally speaking these characters have 2 be mega hard, have loads of money or influence in high places and ALSO be getting sex regularly of DIFFERENT women/men a true player.

Batman

Commander Sheppard

Double Badass.

Samus Aran

Mario

Single Badass

Luigi

these are just some examples you obviously dont have 2 follow these criteia.

please if u guys can recommend badasses or even better if you could post some images yourself.

you can download the song here without wating cause its premium.

http://rapidshare.com/files/436792415/MVI_3140.mp3

and here are the lyrics.

yeah hes a mean motherf****,

and i heard he'll stop at nothing,

over your dead body,

i heard hes not a laughing man.

you better not look over your shoulder

cause his eyes might turn you 2 stone.

you can run as fast as you can,

or you can fight or you can die trying.

he eats guys like you for breakfast,

he'll end you in the blink of an eye,

hes gonna make you open up wide,

so you can swollow his humble pie.

go no mercy

go no pride

got no remourse

got nothing inside

yeah hes wratch personifed

unadulterated hellfire

blood guts his only desire

he'll write your eulogy with a smile

pick his teeth with your bones if he could

killing is his business and business is good.

Ok I don't know if there is such a thing but I guess it does not hurt to ask.

I am looking for a manga, that may be historical I guess, or maybe not but is there a manga that has mummies in it, like some horror movies or something?

<.Haruka.>
January 24, 2011, 02:34 PM
I don't know any manga which specifically has mummy as its main theme but there are some series that includes mummy on some few chapters on them.

One is on Princess Resurrection, chapter 11 (Princess attrion) (http://www.mangareader.net/1608-50316-11/princess-resurrection/chapter-11.html),
Another on Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo, chapter 7 - 8 (The Mummy's Curse Murder Case) (http://www.mangafox.com/manga/kindaichi_shounen_no_jikenbo/v02/c007/),
and also on Astro Cat, chapter 7 (the cat mummy) (http://www.mangafox.com/manga/astro_cat/v01/c007/).

I hope this helps but there could be some more on other titles too. :)

Try Ouke no Monshou (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=3585), Pharaoh no Haka (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=18996), or Red River (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_River_%28manga%29). Not sure if they have mummies, but there are Egyptian characters, settings and themes.

The first two seem like the thing I might be looking for, thanks Matt, and as for the third I don't think I'll like it it is shoujo, which really is not my type of genre I watch some shoujo anime, but for manga I don't like that style.

I didn't know where else to post this...
This question has been killing me for a long time, so I just want to know which one is more prefered... OMV vs. FoOlReader??

To see a demo of OMV, there are various sites that use it:

http://narutobase.net/manga/
http://reader.imangascans.org/

Then for the demo of FoOlReader:

http://foolrulez.org/manga/

Please tell me which one you think is the best...

I also not sure whether this is the correct section for this post :sweat But if this is the wrong section, any mod/admin will move this thread to the correct section :)

However, regarding you question; Personally, I prefer using FoOlReader instead of OMV. I don't know why, but first time when I see FoOlReader (I don't really recall which website that I saw using the FoOlReader :sweatdrop), I was attracted to it, and I want to have the exact reader for my website :tem and of course I am using the FoOlReader for my website now :p

Wow. I've never heard of FoolReaders before until now. I can't believe it's much faster than your regular manga loader.

Ideally, it's a lot better. However, I guess I'll stick with the traditional ones because the selection is quite limited as compared with manga viewers.

I really liked the anime (and I am still hoping for a 3rd season =)) and read the whatever low quality translation I can find on the net, (highest I have seen in Chapter 16).

I just read from wikipedia that manga ended on 22 Sept. 2010, and both square enix site and wiki says there are 8 volumes (but doesn't specify how many Chapters are there).

So my questions.

1) Does anyone know how many chapters manga actually has?

2) While I am not asking for a site (or asking you guys to PM me), I would like to know whether it is fully translated or not.

3) If it is not fully translated can you guys recommend me a site that has Natsu no Arashi Raw (so I can at least have a general idea of how it ended, I am such a yasaka x jun fan :))

4) Again, if it is not fully translated can you guys recommend me a site that has natsu no arashi manga (all volumes) on sale, which ships to the Europe.

I will appreciate any answer you guys might have.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, nobody has made like a manga reader site just from FoOlReader. Usually, only groups like soDeq05's or FoOlRulez or Red Hawk Scans use it. Yeah, mostly only group releases.

Bugzee
February 17, 2011, 02:21 PM
Best thing to do is check with the groups that scanlate the manga tbh.

Check mangaupdates.com > Search "Natsu no Arashi" > bingo!

Link here: http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=4258

School Rumble Fantrad (http://www.sr-fantrad.com/accueil_en.php)are currently scanlating it so it's best to ask them. No. of chapters within one volume varies depending on the manga itself, length of each chapter, etc.

I've only come across the anime dvds for sale online not the manga. ):

This is a manhua by the name of "Feng Shen Ji" (literally "god-sealing era/period"), by a Hong Kong mangaka, Zheng Jian He. It began serialization in 30/9/2010. I think it's weekly and comes out on Thursdays.

Can someone please tell me what manga this is:

It's smut. The guy is a teacher(?). The girl and the teacher(?) got into an affair and then she later finds out that he has a baby boy. The girl looked like the teacher's(?) ex-wife. After the girl found about the resemblance she had with his ex-wife she started doubting if he really did love her or he just used her as a substitute for his ex-wife. In the last chapter, the baby boy seemed to had powers? I totally forgot if he really did have powers but the girl suddenly time traveled. And after an incident she witnessed she didn't doubt him ever again.

Don't know if everything is right but i guess i have to try. I really want to know. This manga has been on my mind since a long time ago. This manga had really good drawing and that was what captivated me the most. I just forgot the name of it!! T_T

Another useful detail is they had s*x on a table......ehem......

How about Claymore?
If you haven't maybe you should try rave :p
I recommend Claymore, most of the characters in the story are somewhat of "hybrids" but I'm sorry, instead of animals
they are beasts/akumas.
The highlight of claymore is their girls that wield those swords ofc.
I think its a teen manga..but its probably aim at a wider audience.
Be warn as there is nudity.

I already read rave, but ill try claymore sure ^^

My recommendations would be:
Yozakura Quartet - amazing =D
Fairy Tail -lighthearted story that will make you smile
One Piece, Bleach and naruto are action packed and well the big three so worth trying
All of Clamps works for romance, comedy and drama are the best ^^very imaginative
Dragon eye - amazing but unfortunately on Haitus still a nice read
Katekyo Hitman Reborn - for who likes Italy, mafia style but still shonen cliche but cool
Rurouni Kenshin one of the best out there
Ranma 1/2 - funny!!
Inuyasha - cool read

I've only watched Rave, not read it, not too sure what the differences are between the anime and manga but it was pretty good! I remember Fairy Tail better, of course, since it's more fresh in my memory. Both are good, but yeah, like it's been said, more light-hearted reads than anything else.

Hello guys,i don't know if it's the right thread but i need and advice: i'm looking for a new manga to read and follow(but a finished one is just ok). i don't read plenty of manga, just naruto, gantz, shamo and liar game. What i'm looking for is a good fighting manga, sort of shamo, not childish and with good art. If you have multiple manga to conseil me it's even better! Thank you,and if it's the wrong thread feel free to place this post in the right thread.

Shamo,eh?Cool.
You could try Vagabond,Vinland Saga or Blade of the Immortal.Vagabond is by the author of Slam Dunk. You might've heard of him.The art is gorgeous and the fighting scenes are cool.Vinland Saga has great art as well and even though it's a Shonen,it's not childish at all.The fights are good as well, even though not as big in number as in normal Shonen(It switches to a Seinen magazine later and so the story changes as well, but it's still awesome!).Blade of the Immortal is one of my favourites. The art is great. It's rather sketchy, but that just makes the fighting scenes even better. Those series are intelligent and full of good characters and character development.I can wholeheartedly recommend them and most of the members here will agree.

I'm looking for cyber-punk manga...can anyone recommend me something....please recommend more, because there's a change I might've read it
Well, going with the standard recommendations for this genre...

-> AKIRA -- All time classic, one of the greatest series of all times.
-> Battle Angel Alita + BAA:Last Order -- Masterpiece with one of the best lead characters in the history of Manga.
-> Practically everything ever written by Nihei Tsutomu, i.e. BLAME, BioMega, NOiSE, Abara, etc. -- You can't spell "Cyberpunk" without "Nihei", even though it might look like you could! xD But you just can't.
-> EDEN - It's an Endless World -- Endo Hiroki's big hit work, intelligent and deep from beginning till end.
-> Shirow Masamune's two Cyberpunk hits Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell -- Dense and brilliant, though I'd rather recommend the Anime version for both of those series.

But just like I said, they're all just kinda the standard must-reads that come to my mind... if Biopunk is also working for you I could offer some more not so well-known ones, like:

-> Dorohedoro -- Shocking!ly entertaining title written by one of Nihei's former assistants
-> Ultra Heaven -- One of my favorite series of all times: one hell of a dystopian drug trip.

Hope there's at least one or two you didn't know yet. x(

Mardock Scramble (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=46713) is very good too. It's based on a series of novels, which were also adapted into an anime movie, with at least one more movie planned.

Is there a good series that deals with law and have lawyers in it?
It has to be logical ofc.

It'll be good if the cases are actually well written and the mystery is good.
Might be asking a little too much but I'll give any law or lawyer related series a try.
I know about defense devil but I don't find myself liking it.

BakaHaze

Defense devil: the actual credibility of the "Law cases" are rather poor, and relies thoroughly on ecchi and stuff. Not that interesting.

Also I don't think you'll find any interesting ones dealing with that at all, after I took a look at Baka-Updates.

Although with the idea of justice I think that Kurosagi is an interesting one...

I'm looking for a short, completed series. Preferably no more than 5 or 6 volumes long. Seinen or Shonen. It can't have been canceled. It has to have had a proper and intended ending. Licensed in English is a bonus. A perfect example of what I am looking for would be Planetes.

If you're looking for a short seinen Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=1575) would be good. It's a one volume manga about the bombing of Hiroshima and how it effected the survivors. It is one of the saddest, most beautiful manga ever written in my opinion. And it is licensed in English, one of the many great titles Last Gasp has licensed.

Don't know many manga about lawyers, personally. Maybe the Phoenix Wright manga :XD I can't think of anything with a court room setting either.

Nice:worship2...I read half of them, but the rest look good...judging from the title, the most appeaing are Appleseed and Eden...and biopunk...well it's not really my taste, but I will definitely check them out...I'm on a sci0fi reading trip, so anything is welcome...thanks a lot!

Looking for a nice story, mystery, with characters having sad past and such and struggle to 'move' on, don't mind if its shojo, shonen or seinin. Character development, maybe some romance, fantasy (if possible) something either like Gakuen Ouji or Yozakur Quartet ^^

Hrm, I was thinking, with the sad past stuff, does it have to fully dominate/affect the character deeply?

I mean, many manga's have characters with dark pasts which become slowly unravelled, but it's not obvious they are trying to escape it. Also, do revenge manga's count?

it doesnt have to dominate it can be just explanatory or character development ^^ and yes revenge counts, they're some of the coolest plot when revenge is involved ><

Carp. I was thinking of an anime when I said revenge. It's Gun x Sword, I like it a lot. No idea if there's a manga or whatnot. Gun X Sword is about a guy with a mecha (there exist 7 in the world, i think) out for revenge against a man with a claw; that man killed his wife. Accompanying him is a girl looking for her brother, also abducted by the man with the claw. Yeah.

There is another good revenge story, Blood Alone. Main Chara's looking for revenge against the vampire which took his sister.

I know sket Dance has pretty awesome plot development from a gag comedy start; all the characters have pretty dark pasts.

Those are all the mangas, for now anyways. :XD

(I don't know how many of these have a manga version of them though, some may not. As I only watch anime, thus far, except for reading the Claymore manga, hehe)

there's quite a lot of these (sad/tragic pasts + most of the other stuff you listed)... I'll try to list as many as I can off the top of my head, but most will be a bit more on the dark side, and "not so nice" however. And most of them aren't even close to Gakuen Ouji or Yozakur Quartet unfortunately...

well, this might be the closest (of what I read/looked up about the two you mentioned, as I haven't read either of them, lol): Vampire Knight and the runner-up Jyu Oh Sei

You might like also (if I may be so bold as to try to guess what you'd like lol): Fullmetal Alchemist, Full Metal Panic, and/or Spice and Wolf.

here's the rest (the full list) that have the sad/tragic pasts and much of your other listed stuff (though they are a wide variety, not all are fantasy, such as quite a bit of Sci-Fi ones)

Claymore, Blood+, Code Geass, Rideback, Death Note, Hellsing Ultimate, Black Lagoon, Big O, Berserk, Fullmetal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Jyu Oh Sei, Noein, Rurouni Kenshin, Seirei no Moribito, Tenjou Tenge, Trinity Blood, Wolf's Rain, Naruto, Full Metal Panic, Spirited Away, Cassern Sins, Shikabane Hime, Solty Rei, Soul Taker, Birdy the Mighty: Decode, Spice and Wolf, Vampire Knight,

CLAYMORE is what you're looking for then, lol

Blood+ also isn't bad too

Fullmetal Alchemist is loved by many

I'm looking for a shojo that has a down-to-earth feel. A josei would work fine too. I'll be happy to read something romantic, funny, fresh and serious, something with character development. I'm not in the mood for something depressing. I like it when the story doesn't concentrate too much on the main character. I really enjoy Skip Beat, I love the cuteness in Kimi ni Todoke, I love Nana. It would be best if the series is completed, but ongoing would be fine too. Anime-only works as well.

(I only read Claymore manga thus far, so I don't know if all of these below have mangas of them or if they do how good they are, as the ones below, I've seen the animes of them only)

ouran highschool host club
chuu-bra
vampire knight
asobi ni iku yo
spice and wolf

Spice and wolf, Black Butler (KuroShitsuji), Rosario Vampire, Full Metal Panic, School rumble, they aren't shoujo. Course, they're good series, not denying that.

They're all shounen.
Especially with the stupid ecchiiness of Rosario and School Rumble, it's not similar to Josei. But Spice and Wolf has a really heartwarming romance story, and Black Butler is very popular with most girls for its fashion and stuff... FMP is also a classice.

But I don't read josei, I have no idea, sorry :sweat

Lovely Complex - One of my absolute favorites. The main couple has incredible chemistry, lots of humor, highly recommend

OK, so I'm 19, I have a thing for younger boys and my favourite couple are Clare and Raki from Claymore. Does anyone know any anime and manga where the girl is a just few years older than the boy and he starts proving his manliness to her? I'm not into little kids or into relationships where the womans all that much older, I'm talking about boys who would be old enough to understand in real life (12 or 13 upwards), and girls who are no older than their early twenties. And the girl can be either a bad tempered kuudere like Clare or Lightning Farron, or a flirt like Natsuki Hagiwara.

There are a few Bakugaiden manga series including the one you listed and this Bakushouten seems to be one of them. The Volume 1 was published in June 1999, and Vol. 2 in Dec. 1999 according to a used book store's information.

The author's info on wiki, which you linked, is not correct. The author is Mitaka, not Mikata. (There is a typo. ) Anyway, that Bakugaiden Victory is a different manga.

You practically don't get any contents info on Bakushouten online, but here are wiki links.

So you don't mind genre, other than having to satisfy this condition, right?

So the good ones I can think of are:

Unbalance x Unbalance (Harem, manhwa)

Psychometer Eiji (Mystery)

Spice and wolf (Of course, she is probably a few hundred years older :XD) She doesn't look it, though.

Otomegatari (Too little chaps, but it sure looks good.)

I can't think of any other really good ones off the top of my head, but those should keep you occupied.

Well, I just get confused.. In your links, Takeshi Tamai parts on B-daman is the Bakushouden (should the romaji called Bakushouten??) Victory one.. I have not a direct prequel of the manga which should be Bomberman B-daman Bakushouden. But the publisher listed it as another Takeshi Tamai's work.. Well based on your infos and some of suggestion by tgirl in other subforums. (http://mangahelpers.com/forum/showthread.php/73415-Help-Regarding-Bomberman-Bidaman-Bakushouden-Victory?p=2654504#post2654504).. I just feel that Bakushouden Victory is a manga by Takeshi Tamai and the anime is called Bakugaiden.. For the prequel work, the "original" Bakushouden was written by Koichi Mitaka (My publisher credits the wrong author.. LoL).. But thanks anyway for your infos.. It gives me a better translation for the characters and some related B-daman words.

Are there any scans/raw or anything from this mangaka (http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=386)?

I'm quite curious of his work and my google-fu is not good enough to find his WWII-related mangas. Only found one set in Vietnam War and found that it was not grounded/focused on realism .

You found the Apocalypse Meow (http://www.anymanga.com/apocalypse-meow/) volumes, right!?

Seems like Apocalypse Meow is the only one that's been scanlated. The only other thing I could find is magazine covers that were illustrated by Kobayashi. Here's (http://www.downloadmunkey.net/2008/01/art-friday-motofumi-kobayashi-japanese-military-artist/) an interesting link I found. You might have come across it before though. :S

Considering, he has done quite a number of illustrations for magazines...maybe you'll find better luck snooping around those magazine-forum sites that use his works!? Just a thought.

I currently have a thing for the 19th century/Victorian era so I was wondering if anyone could recommend any series taking place in that time period; the place doesn't matter. :) I read/am reading the obvious examples such as Emma, Kuroshitsuji and D. Gray-man.

Does anyone knows where can I read the Kindaichi mystery series?
It's near impossible for me to get the physical copy and I can't find the online version.
It's a shame because it is one of the best in the genre and is as good or maybe better than detective conan.
I'm sadden that there are no scans of it.

You might like Shamo (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=325) if you are looking for something very dark, or All Rounder Meguru (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=38777) for something less sinister. Both have very realistic matches.

Shingeki no Kyojin (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=47446) is one of my favorite dark, supernatural manga at the moment. It can get violent, but more of a PG-13 type of violence. Other than bloodshed there is no adult content. A very intense, suspense driven supernatural action-shounen comprable to early Full Metal Alchemist. I'm not sure if you've read it or not yet, it's pretty popular in Japan but not as popular online. Otherwise I would read Blame! or something by Nihei.

I've found the light novel already, looking for the japanese title.

Anyways thank god for Baka-BT.

Author was 松智洋 in kanji, found it in database as Tomohiro Matsu, Manga's Japanese name: Papa no Iukoto o Kikinasai! originally a light novel.

Hello, Otaku finder! I am interested in reading an action/battle manga with a female lead. I have tried looking, but sometimes I end up with too broad of a search query or too narrow. I have already read Claymore and Medaka Box, and I don't mind what demographic the manga is, really.

What about Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (http://myanimelist.net/manga/651/Nausica%C3%A4_of_the_Valley_of_the_Wind)? I haven't read it myself (keep meaning to but forgetting :sweat) but it looks like it might fit the bill.

In my list I only see 'Witch Craft Works' which has only 11 chapters scanlated and is not the manga i have most interest into, but there are also the Gunm series (also it is not really recent)

You can try here http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?category=Strong+Female+Lead&orderby=rating&genre=Action, but most of the female lead are not the main protagonists and I don't know if Oresama Teacher can be classified as action...

You could try either Shut Hell (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=39560) or maybe Shingeki no Kyojin (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=47446) (main protagonist is male, but the female lead, Mikasa is very prominent and an all-around awesome character)?

Teeba
January 05, 2012, 04:45 AM
@igotthegoods - I'm already reading Shingeki no Kyojin, and its definitely more awesome because of Mikasa. Shut Hell, maybe not, I'm not into reincarnation. I really appreciate the recommendations, though!

@k-dom - Witchcraft Works sounds cool, and Oresama sounds a little like Gokusen, but with the main protagonist being a high schooler, not a teacher. I'll check both of them out. Gunm also sounds cool!

Ok, I think I have a lot of recommendations now. xD Thank you so much!

I'm looking for some alternative manga or gekiga that are licensed in English. Stuff like Yoshihiro Tatsumi's works or other Drawn & Quarterly manga. Preferably manga that are single issue volumes or less than 10 volumes.

Let me be more clear. I know of most of the licensed manga that I am asking for. What I want is your personal recommendation so I don't have to buy these books so blindly.

Drawn and Quaterly will release Nonnonba (http://www.drawnandquarterly.com/shopCatalogLong.php?item=a4f04896b2f371) soon. It's really a great story about a child and his grand mother and the learning of life intertwined with japanese folklore. Don't hesitate once it is out.
Otherwise Tanigushi is always a sure pick but you probably know his work already.

And if you don't mind French authors in the middle of Mangaka, you have this book made by casterman Japan (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=7937). I think it was release in English too.

Start with AX Volume 1: A Collection of Alternative Manga (http://www.amazon.com/AX-1-Collection-Alternative-Manga/dp/1603090428/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330234356&sr=8-). AX is currently the best known gekiga/alternative magazine in Japan right now, founded by former editors of Garo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garo_%28magazine%29). I would also recommend any of Drawn and Quarterly's Tatsumi Yoshihiro (http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=2430) anthologies (Abandon the Old in Tokyo, The Pushman and Other Stories, and Goodbye) as well as his autobiography A Drifting Life.

Interesting that Drawn and Quarterly refer to Mizuki Shigeru as a gekigaka. Like Tezuka he did publish seinen and gekiga late in his career (Nonnonba being a fine example). But Mizuki will always be best known for his shounen masterpiece Gegege no Kitarou (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=10569), just as Tezuka will always be best known for early shounen classics such as Astroboy and Metropolis.

It was about I think 4 friends and they all got picked 1 by 1 by some guardians or something like that but they had to earn the guardians trust by facing them in some shrines near their school and 1 of them ended up in the hospital unconscious while he was dealing with his guardian in a spirit world or w/e lol Im not sure if Im making any sense but Im just hoping someone might know the real name or know what Im talking about xD i would love to read it again and continue reading it but I just cant find it If someone could help me I'd be eternally grateful.

I think I have finally completely lost track of all the manga I have read. I have been trying to remember the name of a particular manga, but I can't for the hell of me remember. All I remember is that there was a tournament/competition sort of event, which the main group of characters won. They won a castle in the competition, and they began looking for influential people to staff it, including people who used to be their enemies. The main character, after the competition, and while the recruiting process is going on, wakes up on a boat, on a long journey to another continent--a journey that costs a lot of money, which thus pisses the other main characters off. I think he or she thus has no money to return to the castle and the other characters have to cover for him or her. I think they were trying to prevent the people who they were trying to recruit to staff the castle from knowing that the main character was gone.

This also may be a dream I had. Hm.

The most memorable one-shot for me was GODLAND COMPANY (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=66499) by Psyren's Iwashiro-sensei. I loved how it was fun and doesn't take itself too seriously.

This manga in this picture looks interesting. Does anyone know much about this manga featured below in this picture?

Here is a link on the article this picture came from. The Strange World of Yakuza Fan Magazines (http://publishingperspectives.com/2009/10/the-strange-world-of-yakuza-fan-magazines/)

Thank You

If I remember correctly, Ichi the Killer has lots of Yakuza stuff and is quite hardcore.

Hello all. First post.

Anyone have any suggestions for good science fiction or horror mangas? I'm a fan of, ghost in the shell, akira, serial experiments lain (anime), etc. Just started getting back into manga and wanted some fresh stuff to check out.

Also, what is your favorite short manga series? If they could be along the lines of what I already mentioned that would be cool.

Thank you very much!

EDIT: & I am only looking for completed series'.

Well, well, you should definitly check out Tsutomu Nihei's sci-fi horror manga such as Blame and Biomega. Another entertaining six chapter horror manga is Alive! by Takahashi Tsutomu, who also drew another horror short series called Skyhigh, which is just as good.
Hideout by Kakizaki Masasumi, while not as great as the other manga I mentioned, is a pretty entertaining horror short story.
All of them are completed and rather short.

I can also recommend Gantz. A strange sci-fi horror/action series, which is pretty long and not completed, but it's supposed to end in 2012.
And even though I have yet to read it myself, you should give Eden: It's an Endless World! a try. From what I've heard,it's a fantastic sci-fi.

That should be enough for now,I think.

I read this a while ago, but it didn't update regularly so I tabled it... my hard drive went and I lost my data, including all the bookmarks of tabled manga I had.

What I remember:
A guy who can't really remember his past joins up with a group that wants to end conflict/war. He's ranked lowest at first, and wants to become stronger. He also acts as a female member sometimes who's ranked among the highest members of the group.

I also remember at some point, during one of the conflict his group is intervening in, he recalls a part of his past, and that lost persona was extremely strong and was able to beat down an enemy in an instant.

I also remember one of the specific conflicts was 2 nations fighting over a reservoir that creates a medicine that can basically cure everything, and the way he (in his female form) and the other member who was working with the other nation ended everything was by blowing up the source of the medicine.

If anybody can remember anything, even the name of a character, I'd be extremely grateful.

As the topic implies, I'm trying to decide on the next manga/anime that I should immerse myself in. I haven't read many mangas and only started getting interested in reading them a few years ago but the ones I am reading right now are Naruto, One Piece and Bleach. In terms of anime, I watched DB/DBZ when I was a kid(and revisited it again a few years ago) and Samurai X, also when I was a kid.

I am looking for opinions on which one should I try next. I wanted it to have the same feel as the ones I have read/watched in the past and wouldn't mind if it was an older manga/anime. I am also open to seeing something where the lead is a female, it could make a nice change from the ones I have read.

I welcome suggestion! Thanks! :super

You should try Magi (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=44445). The art seems a bit boyish compared to Jump mangas that you have mentioned, but trust me it is getting better and better. Story wise, Fairy Tail (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=3793) is similar with those Manga except it is easier to be digested. For a lead female action manga, at this moment the only thing that I can think about is Claymore (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=1037).

For a Seinen (adult oriented, in case you don't know) manga, I guess you should read Berserk (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=88) and Vagabond (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=387). Vagabond is kinda philoshopical and slice-of-life, so if you're looking it because you're expecting many battle scenes, you'll be disappointed, unfortunately.

For a female lead, i think medaka box or legend of maian seems more adapted to your tastes than claymore.

manga that will be written based on the long lasting Tokusatsu series by Tsuburaya, the ever famous Gigantic Hero, ULTRAMAN.

"The Ultraman manga will be set into a much darker tone of the original storyline and is drawn in a "seinen" manga art style. The manga will be drawn by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi, who are both famous for their work, "Linebarrel of Iron". The manga take place decades after the event of original Ultraman."

Ages ever since the absents of the Gigantic Hero, the next generation hero who inherit the bloodlines of the legendary gigantic hero emerge. Shin Jiro, a normal high school student who's also the son of Shin Hayate(the real Ultraman) and is aware about the existence of Ultraman years ago and wanted to be a hero that save the world. He is just a normal human and had no superpowers or such. One faithful day lead him to a special high-tech suit that will turn him into a different incarnation of the legendary gigantic hero! Will he be a HERO?

The storyline will question on a lot of social issues like who is in fact the actual enemy? Is it the monsters, aliens or the humans ourselves? This proves that the manga will have a complex storyline.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Does anyone know where I can read this manga online? I am a huge daikaiju fan, and that normally revolves around being a Godzilla fan, Gamera fan, and Ultraman fan. And with news of this new Ultraman manga (Starting back in late 2011 and still on-going), I really want to invest myself within it and read it.

Its not everyday in which Ultraman makes a modern day comeback within the realm of manga.

So does anyone know where I can read this online? On Monthly Comic Magazine HERO'S website, they allowed the first issue to read online for free and it has English versions of the mangas they were hosting as well. ULTRAMAN being one of them. They only allowed the beginnings to be read obviously, but I'm hooked and would like to read more. Currently HERO's is on its 10th issue once September 1st hits. (Its released the first of every month).

http://www.heros-web.com/en/

So can anyone help me out here? I would greatly appreciate it! This is the only place I know that has users who might actually know where I can find the rest of the chapters online. So Mangahelpers, can you help out a fellow member in some way?

Okay, so I only remember a couple parts of it but I really loved it.

I remember that its about a girl who has to move in with her parent's friend who goes away for work a lot. The man she stays with has a son who is in the same class as her, and when they are at home he acts like they are dating but he still flirts with other girls at school. One night when the son's father is away, they end up sleeping in the same bed (I can't remember how, sorry!) and he comes home and catches them and makes rules that they can't be in the same room after a certain time etc. At one point, the son asks over a bunch of the girls from their class and the protagonist gets jealous and yells at him in front of everyone when she does he gets bored of the girls and sends them home. He's kind of one of those tsundare types.

The boy introduces her to his best friend (who I remember having red/orange hair and I think his name is Ken or Kon or something) and she clicks with him and they become friends. She creates a cute nickname for him (ken-ken or something) and he brings her movies and such that his sister likes. The son gets jealous and angry.

She ends up getting upset and running away and she hides in the park and he runs around in the rain looking for her and finds her and takes her home..

I know this desc sucks but I really want to find this manga :(

I finished reading two sad manga (http://mangahelpers.com/forum/showthread.php/52781-which-manga-anime-made-you-cry-or-close-to?p=3006625&viewfull=1#post3006625) about dogs, and I was wondering if there were any light-hearted ones to contrast them. (I'm thinking a slice-of-life like Yotsuba & I.)

I don't mind reading shoujo, but I generally have a harder time getting into it.

If it is one about dogs ( or animals in general ) what about Doubutsu no Oishasan (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=37418). It's not the same humor as yotsuba but no question of drama

Hello,

I read this manga about a month ago, and i cannot remember what the name is. The manga is about a young man that finds out that he has a family. When he goes to meet the family, i believe most of his new siblings were all girls. I believe the manga is slice of life, no perverted stuff, just very clean writing.

If anyone can help me find the name of the title, thank you. Thank you for your time and effort.

Are you reading Shingeki no Kyoujin (http://myanimelist.net/manga/23390/Shingeki_no_Kyojin)? If not I would highly recommend it. Technically it's a shounen (because it's serialized in a shounen magazine) but going by the mature style you will notice that this series is more of a seinen, at least by what we define as one (blood/gore/really serious story).

Kamisama no Iutoori (http://myanimelist.net/manga/24561/Kami-sama_no_Iutoori) or Tokyo Kushu (Ghoul) (http://myanimelist.net/manga/33327/Tokyo_Kushu) may be worth a try too.

well, as long as story is good and art style doesnt suck , i read everything except romance. i could never get into romance on mangas. (thou as a subplot i can do romance also). shin angyo onshi was awesome. i am open to suggestions.

Supernatural, slow but very good : Mushishi
Old but still very good sci-fi : Parasyte
Disturbing and psychological : Homunculus
If you want a big shock (don't read summary and read till the end of volume 1) : I am a hero
Things that will make you feel good : Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, Yotsuba&
One of the most hilarious thing I have read recently (though you may not like the art) : Boku to Issho
Everything by Jiro Taniguchi

Otherwise I would recommend most of the works by scanlators Mangascreener, Hox and Kotonoha.

I just read the 3 chapters that were translated.
It looks like an interesting manga.

It seems like it's already completed (only 4 volumes, around 16 chapters), so it's just a matter of time before Cave Translation translate them all.
Although with that few number of chapters, I wonder if it was cancelled before the end.

Otherwise, I can hardly see how they can complete the story in so few chapters.
Anyway, I will certainly read it when everything is translated.

The bad news is that at the current pace, they are translating a chapter every month or so...
We can hope to have everything translated in a year, maybe more.

0Xellos
October 06, 2012, 04:41 PM
I'd say it was cancelled. It's a mainstream shonen battle manga from the first 3 chapters, and those tend to get cancelled often, because there are so many of them. It could have potential, seeing that potential main chars were killed in the 1st chapter - the author shows he/she has guts (pun on Berserk not intended) to show deaths... but dunno, from the first magical (pun on the manga's theme again not intended) 3 chapters.

ash87
October 07, 2012, 02:12 AM
at that pace bet we'll forget it before the team has done with it :derp
anyhow ain't following: if it was intend to last this short still too brief for such story type
otherwise, if it was cancelled (most likely) it's even worse since the plot's eventually breaking abruptly right in the middle of "something"

both cases I don't think is such worth reading

It gets really boring waiting for HxH to come back from hiatus so I want this thread is to find GOOD mangas to read while its on hiatus.

I only have four recommendations. They aren't really much like HxH at all but they're good mangas nonetheless.

Vagabond
Blade of The Immortal
Vinland Saga
Shingeki No Kyojin

Ok guys post your awesome mangas :)

Well I guess it is not necessary to speak about Fairy Tail and Soul Eater
If you like dark humor and not ordinary manga you could try Dorohedoro (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=209)
Otherwise in manhwa there is Id (http://mangahelpers.com/forum/showthread.php/69387-ID-the-Greatest-Fusion-Fantasy-by-Kim-Dae-Woo-A.-T.-Kenny)which has a bit of RPG feeling and in webcomic Kubera (http://mangahelpers.com/forum/showthread.php/68454-Webtoon-KUBERA-by-currygom)and Magician (http://mangahelpers.com/forum/showthread.php/72304-Webtoon-Magician-by-Kim-Sa-Rae)though they are not to much my cup of tea but quite popular.

You can use site like Mangaupdates to seek information about Toriyama's one shots you are looking for. If it is said on that site the one-shot has not been scanlated yet, that means the English scanlation is not exist. This is the page for Akira Toriyama (http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=644).

Thanks mate..Unfortunately I cannot found what I look for..Anyway thanks for the info..

I'm looking for some good Adult/mature/Seinen manga with a passionate love story. The characters should really well developed, while at the same tie story is not afraid to portray dark, mature ideas.
Any recommend would be great....:hi

Preferably some titles that are already distributed in the US as graphic novels so I can actually buy the volumes for her.

My first thought was Fushigi Yugi, but I know there are even more imaginative and girl-friendlier titles out there. Stuff with romance, adventure, love conflicts, dashing handsome heroes, all that gay stuff.

Any suggestions?

Kimi ni Todoke is the only shojo I've ever legitimately enjoyed. Very well written but not an action/adventure so it may not be for the casual reader but I'm pretty sure I've seen it in bookstores here in the States.

Maybe Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=27818)

Well it's a bit old but maybe Basara. Some titles by CLAMP should also be OK.
After the classic of the shoujo can be Lovely Complex, Parfait Tic, Paradise Kiss, Bokura ga ita and for still ongoing series Skip Beat, Kimi ni todoke, Dengeki Daisy, Akagami no Shirayukihime...

Try Solanin (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=2833), the very realistic story of a young couple coming to grips with adulthood, partnership, and responsibility.

well @k-dom, @kaiten and @Xio did offer great ideas can maybe add Elfen Lied (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=413) to the list. not exactly love story in the strictest sense but the story is great and dark mature ideas are very much forefront. there is also Bitter Virgin (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=2997), Emma (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=104) and Otoyomegatari (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=37308). Last 2 isnt actually dark but the issues are relevant and could be seen as dark nowadays. Thou both has awesome story.

Well, Fruit's Basket (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=3) is a good place to start shoujo i believe and my sister loves it. Maybe Dengeki Daisy (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=13582), it is one of the fad shoujo's. a little more gayish Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=1481) is also good.

Well, you can start reading Yotsuba&! (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=5)if you like comedy. It might be the best out there.
Genshiken (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=2402) and Gintama (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=228) are also a pretty great alternatives however to me gintama is losing a little bit of steam.

If you like (anti)hero staff with a great character; thou a manwha and not a manga Shin Angyo Onshi (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=164) is as good as it gets.

If you can give a little more about what yu like you might get much more awesome staff.

This seems to be the right thread to ask this, I'm looking for the manga/manwha where the character on this pic appears:

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab205/Khalmyr/Nihail_zps687c9428.jpg

I saved this pic from an avatar on a forum that unfortunately I don't recall anymore.
Hopefully it's not something too obscure (though it seems to be :p ). Given the futuristic looks of it, I would assume it comes from something in the Sci-fi or Cyber-punk genre maybe?

Well, thanks in advance

It reminds me of something I'd see in Katekyo Hitman REBORN by Akira Amano. The artstyle at least...

Asarii
January 26, 2013, 12:33 AM
The art style is indeed similar to Amano's, but the character is not from KHR. :p

There are a lot of tones being pasted on that one panel alone so perhaps the best bet is to narrow down the search to a monthly/bi-weekly series since weekly manga usually don't go that far when toning. (Of course, this is based on my observations so I can be mistaken.) This is all I can deduce from that picture alone. Sorry I couldn't be much of a help naming the series nor the mangaka!

Yup, that is from Biomega. Just don't expect her to show up until near the end of the series. That pic is from chapter 41, chapter 42 is the last chapter.

Boku wa Beatles (http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=52373) uses time travel pretty well as the launch pad for everything that happens in the title.

Very nice! I also thought of the likes of Mori Kaoru, Urushibara Yuki and Umino Chica. :nod I'd also add Anno Moyoco to the list (Sakuran, Hataraki-man) and because of personal preference Souryou Fuyumi (Cesare - Il creatore che ha distrutto is easily one of my all time favorite historical manga...)!

I think one can add everything by Kei Toume (http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=594) to the list. If I'm not mistaken, you already read Fumiyo Kouno (http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=3506) work Yunagi no machi sakura no kuni. Hikaru Nakaruma (http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=2316) with Saint Young Men and Arakawa Under the Bridge. Also I think you have read Oooku, so there is also Kinou Nani Tabeta? by Fumi Yoshinaga (http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=638).
And I don't think many of her work has been scanlated but I really like her simple art Natsume Ono (http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=2151), her serie House of Five Leaves was animated.

Hello everybody.

I'm from a german scanlation group and we are currently looking for some interesting oneshots to work on. So I wanted to ask you people, if you could recommend some (recent) oneshots. ~ There should at least the raws and an english translation or just an english scanlation be out.

It would be great to get some suggestions.
