So the chimera arc COULD finish and they are still animating the old arcs... But i can't understand while they're doing it from scratch... The old one was epic ^_^

It´s really official now:
The upcoming television anime adaptation of the Hunter X Hunter manga will have a new staff and cast compared to the 1999 television anime, and it will retell the story from the manga from the beginning. The "definitive" new anime will premiere on NTV on October 2 and run every Sunday at 10:55 a.m. Hiroshi Koujina (Rainbow - Nisha Rokubō no Shichinin, Neuro - Supernatural Detective) will direct the anime at MADHOUSE (Death Note, NANA), and Jun Maekawa (Dragon Ball Z, Fresh Precure!) is in charge of the scripts. Takahiro Yoshimatsu ("Something Yoshimatsu" of Cyber Formula, Slayers) is designing the characters. Toshio Nakatani is producing.
The manga has sold 52 million copies, and Yoshihiro Togashi will resume the manga in the combined 35/36th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine next Monday. The 29th compiled book volume (pictured right) of the manga is shipping on Thursday.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2011-08-01/2011-hunter-x-hunter-anime-to-retell-story-from-start
I hope we will have a great anime-adaption with less censored parts from Madhouse.
So the chimera arcs COULD finish and they are still animating the old arcs... But i can't understand while they're doing it from scratch... The old one was epic ^_^
Remake is a good strategy from Madhouse, because it would be a little stupid to make only an chimera arc with NEW Cast and let the old arcs with old cast off.
Beginning from Chapter 1 is the best Idea from them and they have now plenty time to make a gread anime adaption of HxH !!

I understand that point of view but seriously if they are doing a remake then, they better surpass the original series because that one was almost perfect from animation to soundtrack, voice actors etc. I really have high expectation for the Hunter X Hunter anime and I think many people share my opinion. Due to that surpassing the original series won't be an easy feat for Madhouse but I still give it a chance and watch it.

I wholeheartedly agree with this post. The first HxH anime was the only anime I got the OST for. Not that I liked watching a lot of animes, but in my opinion it was so good it forced me to get it. And the animation was superb, especially when they were at the York Shin Arc, especially the fight between the Zoldicks and Kuroro.
The Greed Island arc definitely needs this reboot.

I can't read Gon's.
For Killua It's Mariya Ise.
Leorio should be (can't really read it either.) Fujiwara Keji.
Kurapica is Miyuki Sawashiro
Hisoka is Daisuke Namikawa.
The art does look reminicent of Nippon Animation's version, and it's confirmed they're starting from episode one. I personally love Sawashiro-san and Ise-san, so in my shallow heart, this version is looking better and better.

He just meant the art style however. Those screen comparisons of the art wouldn't exactly be correct either since the art style of the HXH anime changed as it progressed and depending on the arc. With the Yorkshin it took a more mature or sombre look while with GI an art style more similar to the new one while the beginning arcs definitely varied depending on the episode but looked ok in general fluctuating more similar to the manga but started to gain its own style.

I agree. The new screenshots do look hauntingly similar to the art style used in the earliest chapters, which was cartoony. Even Netero looked cartoony back then, just look at him now, your epic beard man who gives the middle finger as his ultimate move.
I do like all the styles incorporated in the manga though, but the hardest things for me to accept were the extremely sketchy manga pages depicting the ending of the GI arc.

I don't get the whole "plastic animation" thing. If there's anything wrong based on this promotional poster alone, it would be the colour scheme which I think could be a little better (check Ao no Exorcist for a great colour scheme). Other than that, the art style resembles the one used in the manga a lot. It also looks more contemporary compared to the first anime (which also has a great art style). Madhouse is a big studio, with quite a few different animation teams, some of them fantastic, some of them mediocre. The only animation style of theirs which comes to mind when I think "plastic", is the awful one used in the Iron Man and the Ultraviolet anime series. I think it was also used in the Devil May Cry anime. That animation style was awfully cheap-looking, but I doubt it's the style they'll be using for the new HxH anime. It's hard to tell which style they'll use for this new series, especially considering the fact that it's most likely going to be more than 26 episodes.

I sincerely doubt this too be the case. Especially with how censor laws in Japan are and how shows have been bypassing showing of violence, ala School Days. So really don't think this to be the case in fact I think the violence may be cut even more here than the original precisely because of how depicting violence has changed in recent times, none of the anime shows have violence comparable to say Cowboy Beebop or yes the original. Seems more likely to avoid such, irony much when you can have such fanservice.

Well other shonen shows like Naruto, One Piece and Nura have managed to stay pretty violent so I don't think we'll be seeing Toriko level edits(I suspect that is more Toei's doing than Fuji TV's) so Hunter X Hunter will probably keep a pretty fair amount of blood and violence, but I don't expect it to be nearly as brutal as the manga.

I could say now that the new HxH Anime has a quality between the original anime and the GI anime, but with that cartoony edge that kinda makes them flamboyant, and which carries the spirit of the first chapters of the manga. Hisoka really looks like a magician, that amusing one that actually uses your magicianly kinds of tricks instead of the cold, cunning killer we all know. Leorio looks a lot more cartoony and unserious and I like that. Kurapika has lost much of his edge from the Ryodan arc in the original anime but I'm gonna expect he will regain that edge when the new anime gets to that point. Killua also looks cartoony and it will be interesting to see how Madhouse will implement Killua's killer look. Gon really has looked more cartoony now and it would be interesting to see how that look would evolve from the first arc to the Chimera Arc (we should get the Chimera Arc this time!).

But also secretly part mystery, as the impression is "no enemy" and I'll be like, I can not see too much What is the scene trying. Aim at the license plate is secretly gon, secretly, but eventually I would have taken, and I think secretly the scene for the first time something had trounced. I do like all the styles incorporated in the manga though, but the hardest things for me to accept were the extremely sketchy manga pages depicting the ending of the GI arc.
You definetly need to see the redrawn chapters for manga release! Pure awesomeness!

Some things you all might wanna know about the new anime:
http://mblg.tv/mooocha/entry/834/
-Kaito won't be appearing early on
-Hisoka won;t be perverted but instead be a "brave man" (not too sure what that means)
-Less violence (kinda obvious)
-Togashi himself will be supervising the anime
Well I;m not too surprised about hearing that the violence level will be lowered though hopefully not to the extent of Toriko. Hisoka being changed a bit is a bit disappointing, but Hisoka being well...Hisoka, I don;t know how well he;d have flown on a daytime timeslot for kids. Kaito not appearing early is fairly forgiving since he;s not all that important early on. I will assume that the flashback with him in the first chapter will be kept in though.
Since Togashi is supervising the thing I think most of these changes won;t end terribly, though I guess we'll see how it goes(I probably won;t notice too many of the changes since my memory of the beginning of the manga is somewhat vague). At least it means this might actually have a legit ending.

Since Togashi himself is overseeing it hopefully these changes won;t be too impactful(I doubt he'd let Hisoka's personally be changed completely). At least they have a good shonen scriptwriter on board. I don;t think anyone was really expecting it to be a 100% complete modern remake of the first anime. I just hope the violence isn't TOO toned down. DBZ Kai level violence would be pretty okay. I don't think HxH would end up as censored as Toriko(albeit that series had it;s obvious reasons for being censored).
I do wonder who they'll be getting for the music though. I never watched the first series so I don;t know what kind of music it had, but going from the manga, it doesn;t strike me as something that would have a lot of orchestral music.
On a side note it seems companies over in the states are already bidding for the new anime. Guess their trying to run the popular shonen train.

This is great news. I look forwards to watching the anime again. I kinda forgot how the series went. Anyone have a link of a site where they stream the series for free?
On a related note:
I will also miss the perverted Hisoka. He is one of the few who fights only because it makes him happy. It will be hard not to compare the old series to this new one but i will keep an open mind. Especially since Togashi is supervising the making (not sure of that really means anything).
Side note:
If this gets bought in the US it will be even more censored. The would probably cut it up before airing it. Hypocritical, since everything on TV now a days have sex and violence hiding behind an M rating. Like that has ever stopped anyone from watching it.
Edit:
Is Kurapika male or female? I always thought she was a girl because of her feminine qualities.

Everything is correct except for Hisoka. It's not 'brave man'. It's 'strong fighter' if we're to be literal. From what I can tell, it just means that he'll be someone who's really strong and likes fighting, but not someone who gets a sexual thrill from combat. But this is just what this blogger seems to think. I dunno if we should take it as fact until an official site lists it. They're not even sure if Togashi is really supervising it. (They say that's what it SEEMS like.) THere's some stuff about Yorkshin too, but again it's the blogger's opinion that it will change. Best thing to do is to wait until Madhouse or Nippon TV makes an official announcement.

I like the new style because it does resembles to the manga a bit more, and I think it's a wise marketing decision if they want to attract younger audience to renew a bit the public.
I even think they made it simpler to encourage more fanarts, since it's easier to draw this way. (No, I'm not talking serious but I see this could be actually a consequence of this design)
It's a fact that the older one looks as higher quality, but we have to wait to see the animation per se until we can make a better comparison.
PS: No pervert Hisoka? Ohh, that was fun. But I understand why, since pedophiles and everything that resembles it are being strictly forbidden (Which I approve, even in this case)

"Less Violence" - That's the only thing I'm concerned about.
Well yeah, it's a Shounen (Manga to Anime) adaption, so they have to do that.
But there is a chance that they ruin the intense atmosphere/aura of the Chimera Ants Arc.
http://www.mangareader.net/207-14207-2/hunter-x-hunter/chapter-198.html <- I want to see how they handle that in the Anime.
They will take out whole scene when it comes to the King killing a Child, rite?°-°

Probably they will just dress him and show two sticks coming from his turban.
~Andrew~
September 14, 2011, 08:20 AM
Yeah, I thought of something similar. But it's impossible to only change scenes in wich the King kills a scared child, right? Here in Germany they're changing blood to water and words like "killing" or "dying" into "defeat" and "passed out" (it's actually even worse but I don't want to explain further - I'm reffering to the German free tv version of Naruto, aired on "RTL 2", google it if you wanna know more O: ). So I don't know how they handle it in Japan.

Yes, of course. Isn't it always like this?
That's not my point, though. I'm just curious as to how they intend to handle specific scenes. Would they just change or replace the scene I mentioned before (King killing child, then eating its brain bla).
You should know that we've got an Uncut DVD version of Naruto, too. But the dialogues stayed the same and quite a bunch of the younger fans misunderstood many story-related things. You know what I mean. For example: Zabuza&Haku weren't dead in the German version, but instead they said both of them went missing or that they escaped. So later, when Sasuke and Suigetsu want to get Zabuza's Sword (which is at zabuza's grave), they run into a little problem. I'm to lazy and too short on time to further explain it. Sry. But look it up on Google or Youtube. Maybe I'll edit this posting later.
Back on Topic: I'm just wondering how they handle that scene with the King and the Child, that's all. I want to see what exactly they understand by "less violence". I don't know if they had to reduce violence in many Shounen, so I can't compare.

September 14, 2011, 09:58 AM
@Andrew: No it isn´t really always like this. For instance "Dragonball Kai" with Bardock-Finish-Combo from Piccolo/Song-Goku. TV and DVD/BD has the same scene and the same censoring. Also in the War-Arc-Saga of One Piece will be too.

-Ending theme "Just Awake" will be done by Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas(did the opening for the second season of Kaiji)
Kind of odd bands for a shonen title but it does make more hopefully that want to attract the older fans. Then again this type of music is typical for Madhouse...

Fans of Yoshihiro Togashi's Hunter x Hunter will no doubt be clearing some time on their Saturday schedules, as Crunchyroll has announced the addition of the new anime adaptation to its fall lineup.
The series debuts in Japan on October 2, which means you can catch the first episode this Saturday on Crunchyroll. Hunter x Hunter will be simulcast 60 minutes after broadcast every Saturday at 8:30 pm PDT.
The series will be available in the following territories: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
Hunter x Hunter follows Gon, a young boy who lives on Whale Island, full of ambition to become a Hunter like his father. Thus, he departs on a journey to become a Pro Hunter, and meets other Hunter exam applicants—like Kurapika, Leorio, and Killua—throughout his dangerous quest.

The first episode was everything I wanted to be! Great visuals, voices, music and direction! I'm pretty sure they'll include the flashback in some later episode. Both the OP and ED were great, though the latter seemed like an odd fit for a shounen series, especially one that seems to air pretty early during the day (but I like metal so I don't care). I loved the original anime, and I'm sure I'll love this one just as much (if the first episode is any indication, then yes!)!

I gotta say...I was really surprised that the kept the you-know-what of Hisoka's glowing in the ending song...you'd think that wouldn't fly in that timeslot. At least it means Hisoka probably won't be as toned down as everyone is afraid of.

Awesome!
Overall a great episode. Well, I missed the flashback a lot, but I'm pretty sure well get it later in the show. Also some other little bits, such as the captain teaching Gon how to steer the ship and Gon going all yay. The pace is darn fast. But really, it follows the pace of the manga now quite accurately.
I like the voice acting. Gon isn't right as perfect as in the old anime, but I think I'll get used to it. Score was great. Mostly. Few a bit overdone tracks in a little misfitting scenes, but generally awesome. Opening was pretty good, ED was superb. Kaiji OP has really made me like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. So Kirikos all ready next ep :nod

Good episode. Seems to follow the manga closer. Except for one major change.
There's no Kite flashback. Now I'm hoping and expecting it will be seen later.
I think the reason Kite's flashback was taken out in this episode is because they wanted
to be able to include Leorio and Kurapica in the episode. I think Kite's flashback will
appear later perhaps in the next episode. I hope they don't skip it because it will
be needed for the Chimera Ant Arc which I hope they animate.
The fast pace is good. Animation good. Voices seem fine though I prefer English dub.
I still miss the old music ost but the new seems not bad either.
Episode 2 should be great.

I also think that we'll get the Kaito flashback later on in the series. My guess is that they'll show it when Gon passes his exam and returns home with Killua. This would be the best opportunity to see the flashback in detail and not rushed just like the first episode of the reboot.

Yeah that's possible. Seeing how Kite is in the silhouette he most likely is in the series at a latter point.
---------- Post added at 10:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:59 AM ----------
Looks like the pace is two chapters per episode
By Episode 15 (end of the first box set of the original) We should be on Chapter 30.
By Episode 30 (end of the second box set of the original) we should be on Chapter 60
By Episode 45 (end of the third box set of the original) we should be on Chapter 90
I think it said 45 episodes are guaranteed. But there's likely to be more.
So by Episode 62 (end of the Fourth Box Set and original tv series) we'll be on Chapter 124
By Episode 70 (end of the first OVA) we'll be on Chapter 140
By Episode 78 (end of the 2nd OVA) we'll be on Chapter 156
By Episode 92 (end of the 3rd OVA) we'll be on Chapter 184
Which will include just about everything that's been animated before
But hopefully there will be more and so...
Episode 100 Chapter 200
Episode 125 Chapter 250
Episode 150 Chapter 300
Episode 159 Chapter 318
So 159 episodes at two chapters per episode pace takes us to where the manga is now.

Chimera Arc in which we had so many chapters you notice that it's actually quite fast in actions and translated to the anime will make less time.

I know. I'm just saying 159 episodes to get to where we are now in the manga
is a pretty decent pace. Now if it's 3 chapters per episode it will be at Episode 106.
4 chapters per episode right about episode 80. 5 chapters per episode around episode 62.
Chapter 185 starts the Chimera Ant Arc
So if it's two chapters per episode we'll get there at Episode 92
and it will be a little under two years to get to Chimera Ant Arc
3 chapters per episode we'll get there at Episode 62
A little over a year to get to Chimera Ant Arc
4 chapters per episode and we get there Episode 46
Less than a year

Definitely looking forward to the Ant arc, well since it is my favorite arc in HxH. But It'll be awhile before it's animated but I'm a patient person sooo I can wait lol.:^_^
We survived Togashi's hiatus in so many years that I'm accustomed of waiting. :D I'm also looking forward to the Ant Arc because that Arc had so many great scenes that I want to see it animated. Here are some pictures that are really worth getting animated.

But ack! You're making me wish the Chimera Ant anime was now!
I just can't wait until we see some more action scenes in the new anime.

The absence of the Kite flashback disappointed me at first.
But I think I actually like it better this way.
Why? Well first off Kite's flashback WILL appear later in the series. So it's not gone for good. But a lot of people are saying that the episode lacked the character development of the original anime series. Which may be true considering the original anime added stuff and was dragged out. Not that I'm complaining. I loved the original anime as well as the manga. But I'm excited for this reboot too. Anywho I digress the original had more character development with Gon and Kite obviously but also Gon and his dad as well as Gon and Aunt Mito. Gon's reason for taking the Hunter exam were made very clear in that first episode and Aunt Mito's reason for not wanting to take the exam were clear as well. This reboot takes a different path. Instead there is no Kite flashback (yet). There's mention of Gon's dad being a hunter and abandoning
him but it's practically swept under the rug. Gon's reason for taking the exam seem more like that it sounds like fun than a journey to reunite with his father. Gon and Aunt Mito seem like a mom sending her kid off to kindergarten. Even with the storm it seems like a fun adventure for the whole family. The only real sign of seriousness seems to be from Kurapica who's drowned out by the silliness of Leorio. Overall the reboot makes it seem like it's going to be some kiddie show. So what do I think? I think it's brilliant.
I think it's brilliant because I know where the story is headed and it's soon going to be headed towards nightmare fuel.
The great thing about the first episode is that it solidifies Gon as a innocent little kid. Innocent and naive actually.
It makes you think that it's going to be like pokemon and that there will be no real danger. But oh how wrong you are.
Unless they completely change the story (which I doubt) they are going to take this happy and innocent feel that makes
you feel all hopeful and then crush it into dust in probably just a few episodes. I think the opening and ending themes
illustrate this nicely.
Also the flashback when it's added later should add more character to Gon and others.

I think we are going to see the flashback either at the end of the Hunter exam or when Gon and Killua return to Whale island(and I personally think this would be the best place for it to show up). The Tone of the anime should change over time like during the hunter exam, and especially in York Shin/Phantom Troupe arc.

Hi guys,
I don't know if this is the right place to ask about the anime, but since your are talking about the HxH 2011 remake, I think it is.
I have already watched the first episode from HorribleSubs, but I want to know if there is any other group that do the same thing. Also I want to know which one you recommand (if there is more than one).

The series will be available in the following territories: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

Actually, according to a pretty fantastic translator (http://8thsinfansubs.wordpress.com/2011/09/29/fall-2011-subtitle-reviews/), the Crunchyroll subtitles are literally perfect for the series--it can't get any better. It'd be worthless to watch another group's version.

So actually, I think the series is going to pull a One Piece and just show it in a couple of episodes. Chapters 5-7 were vastly different in the manga for a lot of reasons--scenario and dialogue. But Gon and Killua have a conversation about their reasons for wanting to become a Hunter and Gon mentions Kite by name. The flashback will probably be placed there, as it's the best place to do so.

So far, only 45 episodes are guaranteed. So, I'm not so sure the ant arc will be in the anime. I'm not a fan (at all) of the ant arc but It's maybe the part of the manga best suitable for an adaptation into an anime. There are not so many fights in HxH before the ant arc.
My only issue regarding the ant arc is that it's a pretty gruesome arc. There were some panels which were extremely shocking ... even for someone in his twenties (the worst scene is where naked human slaves are licking an ant dick ... I never read anything close in any shounen ... ).
So, if there is an anime version of the ant arc, it will be censored a lot.

The only thing I didn't like was how they skipped Gon and Kurapica's super hearing powers during the Exciting Two Choice Quiz (unless I missed it.) and how Matthew (the hunter who was following them) took the wrong path and was probably attacked or something.
Other than that the episode was excellent.
One thing I like to point out was the blood seen on the Kiriko son. So it does look like we will be getting some gore at least.
Actually this anime is supposed to be less gore than the manga. Not the old anime series which also was less gore than
the manga. It's actually possible that this anime has MORE gore than the original anime but still less than the manga.

HxH anime just... the nostalgia, the awesomeness :wtf
Okay, I don't quite enjoy its tone and mood as much as of the first anime, but it still damn awesome. Follows the pace of the manga closer, though I am missing a bunch a little details. And the 2-choice-quiz has always been for me the part when I really got into the story. Loveded it. They didn't make it seems to mysterious a setup as originally, but the kinda farce quizshow approach worked also awesomely.
The animation was still good, but I dare argue not as fluid as in ep 1. Thought that figures. It was still very good.

IIRC we're going to see Killua and probably Hisoka in the next episode. While I'm eager to see it, I'm also a little bit sceptical concerning Hisoka's VA because somewhere in my mind I don't think that he can pull it off just like the VA did in the original series. I think that we'll see Kaito sooner then expected, every episode of the remake consisted of at least 2 chapter of the manga. If my hypothesis is correct we might see the start of the flashback in episode 4. Since the remake is really close to the manga the probability is high in the manga Kaito reappeared in chapter 7 (http://www.tenmanga.com/chapter/HunterXHunter7/153084-16.html).

Looks like a few minor details were changed in episode 3. For instance the Kiriko son is the navigator rather than the father.
I'm guessing the reason for this is so people can more easily remember that the son is actually a Kiriko and not human since
the father's human form was never shown before (though it's pretty easy to tell from the eyes) Also perhaps the voice actor
for the Kiriko father charged too much? I dunno I'm just guessing. They actually had the "no arms" scene. There's no blood
but there never was in the manga anyways. Most of this episode was Tompa introducing everyone and the exam just starting
and there was some filler before of them visiting Zaban City. From the looks of the preview Episode 4 will go from the rest of
Chapter 6 to at least chapter 8 but perhaps even further. Episode 4 is when we able to tell just how violent the series will really be.
Though Satotz does warn about serious injury and death in the exam. Killua looks much more child like and his voice can be girly
probably because a girl voices him. Oh well. I prefer dubs anyways (I actually thought the English dub of HxH is great and severely
underrated) Some of the color scheme is different from the original anime. Notable example is Bean. You'll see. Pretty much all
the character designs look good. Dunno what's going on with Hanzo's eyebrows though. It's not a bad episode however I think
episode 4 will be where thing REALLY start to get interesting.

Yeah the drink thing with Tompa is great. It's a good way to introduce some of the characters and give them a bit of characterization
at the same time. We learn that Hanzo has a strict code he follows. Gittaracker is ominous (I like how he's like a bobblehead doll)
Nicolas is a smarty pants and Killua is no ordinary kid...or human for that matter.
BTW was Hisoka ever supposed to have blue hair like he does in the original anime?
I thought the way Satotz walks is amusing. Actually fits well with how it is in the manga. His arms and legs have a lanky effect when he walks.
As for the next episode Leorio and Kurapica don't actually have flashbacks in the manga. Will they add them? Or will they just stick to the manga and use the time for Kite flashback?

The episode itself was good the only thing that I really disliked are Killua and Hisoka's voices. Especially Hisoka's his voice is way too deep and you couldn't even hear his play-ish attitude in his voice. In the original series the voice actor did a great job he actually made you think that Hisoka is a magician with his playful attitude but the new guy didn't manage to do it so far. I just hope that they'll improve just like Kurapica's voice actor.

Brendan Hunter did a great job voicing Hisoka in the dub.
Yep. It's cool his last name is Hunter and so is Adam Hunter who voiced Kite, Basho, Bendot, and Patron 2.
So it's Brendan Hunter and Adam Hunter in Hunter x Hunter. I thought that was cool.
Some people think that Gon and Killua sound too old in the dub but really I thought they sound too young in the sub.
In the sub they sound like 7 or 8 and in the dub the oldest they would sound to me is 13 or 14. I think the dub
is closer to how a 12 year old sounds. But it's hard to get the voice just right since 12 is between a childish voice
and a more adult voice. Also they sound less girly to me which I always like since I usually hate it when a girl
voices a guy. It's good when they actually sound like a guy but when they don't it's annoying. I don't care for
Kurapica's voice in any version for that reason. I know he's supposed to be girly but no 18 year old guy
even effeminate ones sound like women. Not that I have heard any at least.

If we don't get him again who would like to dub Hisoka? I would say someone like Doug Erholtz who voiced Gin Ichimaru in the English dub of Bleach. It sounds sorta familar to the english dub of Hisoka. Though I would still prefer Brendan Hunter actually. (Though I do think Doug Erholtz
was a good choice for Gin Ichimaru)

I always did like Gon's dub voice over Junko Takeuchi, I don't know what it is but I was never a big fan of her voice acting. I like Megumi Han voicing Gon more than Junko Takeuchi. If someone like FUNimation picks up the series it would be cool if they can get Brendan Hunter to voice Hisoka again because I think he did awesome portraying Hisoka. If they couldn't Doug Erholtz would be pretty cool, he as that real creepy tone to his voice that would match Hisoka imo.

The ending for new series is okay, but I definitely really hate the new opening. It is too Toriko-like, and Hunter x Hunter doesn't fit with Toriko-like opening.
I, personally, think the best opening for Hunter x Hunter is Taiyou wa Yoru mo Kagayaku; this opening really fits with Hunter x Hunter.

I like the new opening. I think it fits well for the Hunter Exam, but yeah opening 2 is definitely my favorite of the first anime. Well anyways the next opening should be more dark so it will fit the atmosphere for York Shin just like the first anime.

I just hope they don't take forever to license it. The original dub was gotten way late and didn't even dub the OVAs which sucked.
also on another subject the chapter was saying that the anime had "great popularity" any stats for how popular?

Err actually for it;s timeslot the ratings are a bit subpar. It needs to be in the 5-6% range. Ratings probably will get better when they cover more of the Hunter Exam, but I guess we'll have to see.
Of course if it does well in merchandising it could still get an extension regardless of ratings.

The episodes just keep getting better and better. :amuse
This is pretty much what I was expecting. Still not as violent as the manga
but a little bit more so than the original anime. Censorship doesn't bother
me as much as bad editing does. If they at least make it look like it
wasn't supposed to be violent then I'm cool with it.
Though I'm a little disappointed that they took out the part where Hisoka kills the monkey.
I'm guessing it was more of a time restraint issue then one of it being too violent since
it did show Hisoka killing the guy with the playing cards.
Also Satotz is a bad ass to catch Hisoka's cards like that. I mean we all knew that from
the previous anime and the manga. But it just needs to be said again. I really hope
Togashi has the examiners fight because they chew bubble and kick ass at the same time.
One thing I like better here than the original anime is that it actually felt like a marathon.
All episode they are running and now they have to run more and in swamp. I thought
this part in the original anime felt a bit tedious. But here it actually makes it seem a bit
more grueling.
Again no Kite flashback. But it's still good. I'm sure when they do show the flashback it will be great. However I'm pretty pumped for the rest of the exam and series.

Satotz is definitely a complete BADASS! and the way he walks is just straight up pimp:cool: Hisoka not killing the other monkey man must have been a time restraint thing like you said but I'm cool with him just running away. I thought we would see a quick glimpse of the Kite flashback but oh well... lol. The next episode should be really good. Also by episode 6 we should see my all time favorite! character Netero! making his epic jump from the blimp. :D

Man, this far the show has been just good. Or okay. But man episode 4 was excellent! Pergect I might say.
Winners of the episode imho:
1. Leorio: The voice acting. His burst after almost failing. Talk with Kurapika. I loved what they did with his story, the flashback. Excellent. Just made me like the character even more than before. Definetly the main chracter I have the easiest time to relate to. The guy is just awesomely his self, and quite a decent regular dude. And man, the gag about his age was wondefully pulled of :lmao
2. Satotz: So badass. That running style and all. And the conflict with Hisoka. Win, win, win!
3. Music: The tracks that played during Leorios flashback and when the fog started the to disappear at the swamp. Beautifull. Other cathcy tracks too, though I still prefer the soundtrack of the firs anime.
4. Hisoka: Finally hint of the playfullness I were looking for.
5. Killua and Gon: The interaction between the too is great. So warm and amusing. Even if it was cheap animation, I loved the scene were we saw them should up going up the stairs, dodging fallen candidates like nothing.
Also, they slight changes they made to Nicolas and his part in the story. Liked it.

@Ustegius: You summed up all the good points about this episode. So I agree with you.
The only thing that I still don't like is the background music when Hisoka killed the impostor. It's the second time that I heard it and apparently it seems to be Hisoka's theme song, which I don't like at all. The spanish guitar sound doesn't do Hisoka justice in any way, he needs a kind of tune, which is creepy but also epic at the same time. Kinda like this (www.youtube.com/watch?v=26Kgv85vPMo).

Liking the pacing, although this time there were too many empty images that could have been used for another thing(Kaito for example) more important.

It all depends on what you're comparing it to. The manga? Of course it's not going to be anywhere near as violent. The manga is actually pretty close to being seinen. The original
anime however was rather toned down on the violence. And yet it was still good.
This actually looks like it will be more graphic than the original yet not as graphic as the manga.

I really like the track that plays just before the opening and in this episode just before the ending. So epic! I just noticed that Hisoka's red hair is using blue for it's shadow. I know it's pretty minor, but it looks pretty cool :p. I expected the flashbacks to be longer, as well as seeing Kaito in this episode, but I'm not too disappointed. The violence being toned down was to be expected. Look at any Jump anime currently airing and you can see that their violent content is being censored. At least it's not like Bleach where blood was replaced with either a dark brown liquid or sweat/stomach juice.

You know in a sense a "dark brown liquid" or "stomach juice" sounds a lot more violent
than just blood. Actually it sounds pretty gross. I don't even want to think about what
it's supposed to be. If blood makes you queasy I don't see how that other stuff wouldn't.
Yeah I love the track that plays at the end when they go running into the swamp.

i agree with you, the original got that dark theme around it, which was great IMHO!
but the remake sounds too cheerful which could ruin the theme in upcoming arcs like yorkshin arc and chimera ant arc!

I'm sure when we get to the darker parts of the series the new anime will fit. I don't think this cheerfulness will last long.
Actually it's already getting less cheerful with Tompa crushing rookie's dreams, Leorio's realization that the world runs on money,
Kurapika's willingness to forsake his pride to avenge his clan, little by little we're finding out more about Gon's absent father,
Hisoka killing the fake examiner as a solution and then that same fake examiner becoming vulture food as everyone watches
and then everyone is going to run into the foggy swamps where Satotz has warned them that if they aren't careful they will die.
Yeah...it's not sounding too cheerful anymore.

Actually blood doesn't make it more serious. I'll take as example Tarantino: rivers of blood doesn't make it more violent, it actually gives it a cartoonish feeling. Bad treated blood is worst than no blood. In the case of Hisoka I think it makes sense, since the cards are sharper and got in the skin they caused internal damage (If not there is no way those cards would have killed it anyway) rather than external bleeding.

True. Realistic blood/bleeding is actually a bit difficult to draw since many manga artists probably have not actually experienced anything
like the hyper violent worlds that there characters are a part of. I mean I write comics and many have rather violent themes but thankfully
I have not actually experienced seeing such violence. I mean I've never seen someone get shot and I'm rather glad about that actually.
I think most artists or writers would be like me where they can only imagine how graphic something like that would be. Of course you
don't actually have to see someone get shot in real life. You can always watch videos of people getting shot in real life (I'm sure there
are plenty.) But while I may or may not have the stomach for it ( honestly I probably don't) I would feel rather guilty watching another
person get shot. Whether or not I should is another manner but that's just how I would feel. I can stand fake violence much more
because I know it's fake. For the most part blood isn't gross to me but at the same I have my limits and I prefer not to be tested.
Some people get their kicks out of watching torture scenes but I don't. Yes I do think torture can make a story interesting but I
don't believe the reader has to "experience" the torture to understand the character has been tortured. I'll take your word for it.
Though I'm only speaking for myself as far as my lack of experience with violence. While I wouldn't expect anyone here to have
witness much violence I wouldn't rule out the possibility. Of course even if you have experienced much violence. That doesn't
mean it's going to be easy to draw because well drawing isn't easy.

Well it's a bit unfair if you're trying to compare it to the York Shin arc.
The new anime is still technically on the first exam. Just wait a little while.
You're not even giving the new anime a chance. You're just watching latter
episodes in the old series and thinking "Nothing can top this." When what
you should be doing is comparing the corresponding episodes of the new
series with the old series. You can't compare the York Shin arc since there
is nothing yet to compare to in the new series. And it's not fair to assume
the new series will be inferior when it gets to the York Shin arc since we
are only four episodes into the new series.

The only thing about that song which fits hisoka are the first 8 seconds. Everything after the 8th second makes no sense whatsoever with a coldblooded whimsical murderer. I like the Spanish guitar way better and makes more sense IMHO.... Maybe I am just not attached to the old anime as I never saw anything of it (just the ovas when they were aired on animax a few years back).

i think this was hisoka's main theme in the original anime.
as for the new tracks, i still don't feel it, maybe because i listened too much to the old tracks and can't get them out of my head :D

I don't think Hisoka actually has a theme. It's just creepy music plays when he's there.

I'm a little late on this, but why are they making a new anime and starting from the very begging? The original was excellent.

I think they want to do a more approximate version of the manga, maintain the style trough the series, fix some mistakes that were made and make it more likable to new possible fans.

Why everyone hates Spanish guitars? T_T They're awesome. I prefer the new one over the old one because I think fits more Hisoka theme...something that resembles a gipsy somewhat.
Which makes me wonder if there will be ANY way for me to see it T_T
I'm not hating on spanish guitars at all...but this theme is to playful in my opinion. They should have given him a theme which is mysterious, dangerous and creepy that would fit him IMO.
Okay thanks for posting that vid since I haven't watched the anime in about 2 to three years. I agree with Uriel. The new theme is way more suiting for Hisoka. The old one sounds like it should have been for someone else. It doesn't even remotely fit his personality or attitude.
The old one gave me the creeps, when I was watching/listening to it for the first time. What I'm trying to say is, that the spanish guitar doesn't give you the vibe, that you need to stay away from Hisoka. On the contrary it gives me the impression, that Hisoka is a playful and cheerful dude, which he clearly isn't, at least not during the Hunter exam.

Actually Hisoka is playful. In his own sick and twisted way.
Though he'll probably have a creepier theme when he has creepier moments.
Hisoka hasn't quite got yet to Hisoka creepy yet. He's creepy. But not yet Hisoka creepy.

Hi all! :)
Can someone please tell me how many episodes (the new anime) were aired until now? And is it possible to download the episodes as a torrent? Thanks in advance!

Up till now 4 episodes have aired. The next one airs tommorow (though it might be available to download today). If you want to download torrents for the episodes check tokyotosho.info
I like Hisoka's new theme, but then again I really like flamenco (Bleach Arrancar music *.*). I think a better theme would be one that included accordions and have a parisian theme :D!

Trouble is that accordions are seen as uncool for 30 years at least. Hisoka's new theme is perfect. Nothing to change.
Paris & accordions ... why is the vision of Paris so full of stereotypes :D ?

Yeah it is pretty stereotypical :D. I like accordions when they're not used in cheesey songs. I thought it could maybe use accordions because then it would sound like a clown/harlequin/street performer's theme :).

I'm a little disappointed we didn't see Hisoka laughing maniacally at this part.
Also it looks like Cherry the Soldier lived that much shorter of a life in this version.
In the manga he at least gets a head start running away from Hisoka...until of
course Hisoka catches up to him and yeah....It's not pretty. Here he wimps out
and gets killed execution style with a playing card. Well at least he appears in
this anime. I don't think he was in the first anime. Or was he? I don't remember.
Well it was still cool to see Hisoka go on his killing spree. But it makes him feel
a little different without the manically laughter? Perhaps they want to save that
hysterical side of Hisoka for when it's the 3rd exam with the badge hunting part.
Not hating on the part, just was a bit different. It's good in it's own right.
Actually in a way it makes Hisoka feel creepier in a colder more aloof type way
Also Menchi now has green hair? Well I guess there are no official colors in the manga.
Also didn't she used to wear a fishnet shirt? Now her shirt looks like it's just transparent.
It was fun seeing people getting tricked by all the deceitful creatures in the swamp.
again good episode.

Episode 5 was very good. It was awesome seeing Hisoka's creepy, psycho, pedo, attitude lol. The blood will most likely be shown in the uncut DVD/Blu- Ray's. That's why I hope a company like FUNimation licences it so I can buy the DVD/Blu-Ray releases.

Also. I say phooey to all the HxH 2011 soundtrack haters out there. *
Gotta love them drums when all the Hunters are running through the marsh. :)
* I got no beef with those who prefer/love the old soundtrack though. The old soundtrack is good.
Though it may be a bit early to say I think I'm going to end up liking this soundtrack better than the first anime's soundtrack.
