It sounds like Negi is up to make a whole new world behind the current with an elevator as connection.

He tries to terraform Mars (or another Planet) for real. Think about it. Chao comes from Mars, right? So there must be sth. to live in there in future.

in 8.25 years, no way. The elevator sounds like transporter, whether it means for transfer of magic/mana or fake beings for an exodus. Either way, from what I read, it implies people will be able to transport to and from, so both cases apply. I assume it will be used to transfer magic/mana, since I can't fathom an actual physical elevator that connects mars to earth considering the solar orbits from both planets. A magical one maybe, a scientific one (matter translator, IOW teleporter) maybe not (enormous power consumption, too many interference in outer space). Lol, space bridge from gundam and transformers.

For all I know, it maybe be a one time thing, or occasional thing. So I'll wait for the explanation.

But what about...

The elevator is not a direct link but a station somewhere between. A Station in which magical beeings get sth. similar to an magic-tank in which they can transport enough magic to walk along the real world. At least near the world tree.
Maybe it´s an artificial body. Then their "soul" can be inserted and they can walk along the real world. At least near the world tree.

A mediator planet mmmm... and self propelled one at that... sounds doable.... My only question is, how to get real humans there, and pass them to mars? WAIT, the magical tree be the power generator?!? That's way too much, there need to be another power source to complete the circuit to in-out transfers. Begs me to question how they did the Mars-Earth connection to begin with, magical stone transfer? Stones divided and by doing an affinity spell they get transferred to the planet. Lol, Original stone divided from another old planet.

If you have no idea what I am talking about, think of electrons and protons attract, but believing they were once one (a neutron?). By assimilating your body/soul/etc with the other body (the stone) you just call your other part (the other part of the stone) to be there. Its much easier to do that than make a circuit/chain.

Well, they might use it, since he said it will take 8.15 years. And from the inferred assumptions, it sounds like a one time time or occasional thing. My only objection would be how will they implement extra stones for the mediator planet. (please no triple soul divide)
