Let's be clear about one thing, first and foremost, just to clarify. Hip Hop is the culture of which rap is a piece of. Rap is the actual act of spittin rhymes on a beat.

Having been born and raised in the home of Hip Hop (the Bronx, all be it the northwest bronx), I was constantly bombarded by rap. It wasnt until seventh grade (i am a freshman in college now) that i started listening. The first, and to be honest only, album i bought was sisqo's unleash the dragon... Luckily for me, my tastes have since improved. Let me list some of the artists on my top rated list on itunes:
2Pac (of course)
A Tribe Called Quest
Black Star (Mos Def and Talib Kweli make a good team. They need to get another album out!)
Dr. Dre (The Chronic being one of the best rap albums ever along side with Straight Outta Compton)
Nas (Hip Hop is Dead is pure fire, basically)
Notorious Big (nuff said)
NWA (only with Ice Cube. Their follow up to Straight outta compton, without Ice Cube was garbage, imo)
Mac Dre (straight out of the bay (San Fransisco and Oakland in cali. He is some good stuff if you like your rap with some out of the norm beats and not too serious lyrics. The bay sound is way different than anything in La or in the east, which is why i like it so much)
Snoop Dogg (he still can spit with the best of them)
Mos Def
Talib Kweli (gotta list these guys individually)
Too $hort (a real OG. He was in GTA: San Andreas, to give you guys some perspective, with the song 'The Ghetto')

Some stuff i dont like is Dip Set because they all are trash. Most stuff from the south especially Lil' Wayne. I like my music to be mostly about storytelling and lyrics with a strong beat which most of the above are about in some way or another, with their own twist. My favorite kind of club rap has to be hyphy music. (look on urbandictionary.com for the best definition)

Anyone else a fan of any kind of rap or hip hop?

I listen to it, I haven't bought any music but I download songs I like. All time favorite that I love would probably be Afroman's Colt 45. A nice link to the song here

http://profile.imeem.com/XXwZu/music/qAdTF7wE/colt_45/

Well I live in Seattle Washington, so no great rappers from here. Current faves though would have to be Lil' Jon and Akon. About your south comment Neo I think you shouldn't forget thats where Ludacris comes from.

NeoShweaty
January 09, 2007, 04:26 PM
to be honest, there are SOME good rappers out of the south, but not as much as from the east or the west. Most of the southern music is too club oriented with nothing to say for my tastes.

I haven't been listening to the new stuff from rap/hip hop for awhile now just think its going downhill but I still listen to new songs and albums by my favorites like Eminem, Nasty Nas etc. I only really listen to old stuff like most people you have on your list especially 2pac, Nasty Nas, Dre, and Biggie. I also really like Eminem, Jay-Z, Xzibit, Rakim, KRS-One, Naughty by Nature, Wu-Tang Clan, and some others I can't remember right now.

lol, hell yea i love hip hop. but "kinda" a fan of rap. yes, im black, but rap just doesnt appeal to me. as in no real good meaning to its songs. i also love R&B. but thats getting off topic. but no matter wat other artist come out, none of them can beat 2pac or Biggie IMO

NeoShweaty
January 09, 2007, 05:58 PM
Fuck, how did i forget the Wu-tang clan. They are always good. 36 chambers is also one of the legendary albums. I liked eninem, until his last album because of how bad it was. Jay-z should have stayed retired because his newest album is pretty bad. However, ill give him his due, he made it pretty big from brooklyn.

The rap game has gotten worse and worse which is why the majority of my stuff is from the 90s. I still have so much to check out though, you named some of the artists i have been meaning to listen to in depth to like KRS-One and Rakim.

You need to listen to some of the more substantial artists then. A Tribe called Quest, The Roots, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli and a bunch of others because they say something in their lyrics. I hate rap that doesnt have something to say or that doesnt tell a good story, most of the time at least. Biggie and 2pac where at their best when they have something to (Big Poppa, Dear Mama, Juicy, Changes, etc. are some good examples)

The only words I have to say: Jim Jones "We Fly High"

Pure Love <3

XD That's about the only rap song I like, and it's only because the Ballin' part is so cool XD Though I do like "Shake" by the Ying Yang Twins. I don't always understand/like the words, but the beats are great :amuse

Though, on my ipod I do have 50 Cent, Chris Brow, Jim Jones, Jules Santana, Kanye West, Nelly, and Ying Yang Twins ^^

Rap's not really my thing though; I prefer rock/etc like Panic at the Disco, Ok Go, Motion City Soundtrack, Emery, Anberlin, Armor for Sleep, Amber Pacific, etc. Mostly the more "little known" bands >.>

LOL! you have no idea how obsessed my bro is with "we fly high". BALLIN'!!

Rap isnt for everyone though. I guess i wouldnt be as big a fan if it wasnt for the fact that i am surrounded by it and hip hop culture as well.

XD Everyone in my school loves "We Fly High" Even in my calculus we have guys who randomly yell "BALLIN!" I love it ^^

I come from a really diverse area, so I;ve kind of been influenced by everything. I just like rap and hip hop because they have alot of great beats that really get me pumped up (especially when I'm at the gym) I love turning up my radio when I'm driving and listening to the high energy stuff.

He's From NY, raps as so many others 'bout his life, it's just that his life is a hell of a lot more interesting then let's say Eminem.
Underground rap at it's best.
Not a gangsta but a homeless bum whoms family suffered alot 'cause of Agent orange.
Die Rugged Man, Die! is his debut album which I highly recommend.

hey im trying out all the artists you've mentioned i havent heard of it yet :D... im raised in a rock environment, since birth i've been influenced by rock from almost everyone (parents, cousins, headbangers, satanist friends :sweat) ... hiphop is out of my league but im open to all genres and i really like hiphop ever since i've heard some local rappers, back in 2nd grade i think... the best rappers i've heard: the old eminem, dre, snoop dogg, old jay-z... BEP is really funky, and my favorite hiphop act is outkast, they kinda fall on alternative tho but still hiphop to me... outkast is one of my favorite artists, really talented guys... also public enemy really appeals to me, and the beastie boys are just awesome :amuse

Well I'm born in the blues/rock enviroment but thats heritage my own taste is Rap.

But since you like rock you should try The Circle of Tyrants, Jedi Mind Tricks, Necro and Ill Bill.

TCoT is made of Ill Bill n' Necro who are brothers and were in a metal band called "Injustice" before they started rappin' so they have alot of heavy guitars in their beats.

Vinne Paz of JMT is influenced by the likes of Slayer (lyricswise) and claims to be a Heavy Metal King.

Serioulsy, try it, especially Circle of Tyrants.

Nelly hasnt come out with a hot track in years...If you like the dirty south raps now. Get some of the new rappers old stuff. Ex. Three Six Mafia, Outkast, TI, stuff like that...Also get DJ Drama mix tapes, those have the best underground hits that nobody knows about.

I used to listen to a lot of hip hop, when I was a teenager. I got turned off by it, because there's lack of originality and the lyrics content is getting old and hackneyed, i.e. themes such as money, sex, booze, violence, etc..

I know I might sound ignorant for saying that, but it's true. I don't mind hearing it, it doesn't offend me or anything, but damn that's all they rap about.

But don't get me wrong, out of the 90 percent of crappy rappers out there, there's always 10 percent that are really good and talented, some that we haven't even heard about. Example: Lupe Fiasco.

ok, that said, I'm a big fan of these artists:

Tupac, Wu Tang, Bone Thugz, Notorius BIG, Dre, Snoop, Ice Cube, Outkast, Kanye West, Eminem, etc. you get the idea (this list is in NO PARTICULAR ORDER).

I like their old stuff, but as soon as they start doing a third album, i.e. Eminem, their music starts going downhill. The only consistent rapper that kept/maintained the high quality in their music, out of the above I mentioned, are Tupac, Biggie, Dre, and Outkast. They keep improving and changing it up, unlike Eminem or Snoop, who raps about the same old thing.

Yeah, and you might think I contradicted myself, since these rappers rap about: money, sex, booze, violence. But the above artists mentioned, are different. They were the pioneers of such things, and they didn't overdo it. Plus, they rapped about other themes, for example:

Tupac - the struggles of growing up poor, African American, in a gang dominated society, loss of a friend, etc.

Bone Thugz - songs dedicated to Marijuana

Nowadays, all I see are rappers with gold/platinum chains riding in limos with groupies rapping about their rough childhood......c'mon now, that's so fake and unrealistic.

iThePirate
April 12, 2007, 08:32 AM
Dre ain't shit as a rapper, when he actually can write an album by himself I'll acknowledge his lyrical skills but on like the "2001" album he had guests n' ghostwriters to such a degree that from my point of view it ain't even a Dre album. Awesome producer though, great beats. :D

Tupac was good, Biggie is better. :XD

Snoop was good during the golden era, when he teamed up with Pharrel n' made "Drop it like it's hot" he deserved a bullet in the head GO SUGE

Anyways you don't listen alot to underground do ya? Sure they have violence BUT sometimes there is a meaning to it aswell. Listen to Immortal Technique - Dance With The Devil or Peruvian Cocaine.

Yeah you're right, I was talking mostly about the mainstream Hip Hop. I haven't had the chance to explore the underground Hip Hop lately, like I said, I turned away from Hip Hop in general, for a while now. I'll try to check out those artists that you mentioned, thanks for the suggestions. :)

Btw, what do you think of the interview where Birdman said that Lil' Wayne is better than Biggie, Pac n' Jay-Z?

“He can rap, he can sing, he’s just an artist,” he says. “I don’t think no one will ever be greater [than Wayne] because I don’t think no one puts in the time or the quality. If someone do come along, can you imagine what he’ll have to do? He got to put out on thousand mixtapes, do a thousand records [and] sell 100 million records. 2Pac, Jay-Z and Biggie didn’t get to the shit Wayne’s done.”
This mutha f*cka just made quite an amount of enemies, alright I didn't like Lil' Wayne to begin with, but still, this is blasphemy.

“It’s not a rock record,” said the Birdman in an interview. “That’s what I think people are getting misunderstood. When you speaking about a rock record, you think he’s got a guitar and everything, but it’s not that. It’s going to be some of those types of beats, but it’s just great music. I don’t think no artist can do what he about to get done. My son is a rock star.”

Rappers AINT ROCKSTARS! IT SHOULD BE COMMON F*CKIN SENSE!

Btw, what do you think of the interview where Birdman said that Lil' Wayne is better than Biggie, Pac n' Jay-Z?

pffst. he's just making news and getting attention. lil wayne is far from being the best rapper. i can't tell who's the best rapper, but my favorite would be the beastie boys, as paul's boutique is my favorite rap album of all time.

Biggie n' Pacs work is respected among almost any hiphop fan and Jay-Z is said to be the current king of hiphop. I doubt that Lil' Wayne will achieve either much less both.

Anyways, I can't say who the best MC is either, but my favourite is Pst/Q. :amuse
Has anyone seen the movie 'bout Biggie? "Notorious"? It's actually pretty good, worth a watch indeed.

This mutha f*cka just made quite an amount of enemies, alright I didn't like Lil' Wayne to begin with, but still, this is blasphemy.

Rappers AINT ROCKSTARS! IT SHOULD BE COMMON F*CKIN SENSE!

Better then Jay Z? Hahaha you got to be kiddin' me, he is known as the King of Hip Hop. There is a reason why Lil Wayne is known as LIL Wayne. He still is a beginner, he doesn't match up against the top dogs.

e interview where Birdman said that Lil' Wayne is better than Biggie, Pac n' Jay-Z?

The dude must be on something.

Greatest Rappers Ever:
1. Biggie & Pac (I think both are on the same level of greatest. And it piss me off when a fan of one try to make the other greater while discrediting the other greatness. They are both the greatest, people should just learn to respect that)
3. Nas (greatest lyricist of all-time)
4. Rakim
5. Jay-Z

As for the Eminem discussion: I don't really like the guy music. His only songs i like are
1. "Lose yourself"- one of the best song of all time. That shit set the street on fire when it came out.
2. "The way I'm"

Beside those two songs i really can't stand the guy music.

I can agree that his vocabulary ain't the biggest and that the variation could be better, but then same for lil' wayne that dont vary as much in his rhyming and is often using the same word to rhyme with but he gives them different meanings so everything's a matter of taste

public enemy - fear of a black planet
n.w.a - straight outta compton
beastie boys - ill communication (i decided i liked this one best)
outkast - aquameni
the roots - things fall apart
black star (mos def and talib kweli)
a tribe called quest - the low end theory

as for new ones, i mostly incline to alternative hiphop

Eminem - Relapse.

I thought it would be a crap album. It isn't. But it wasn't great neither.
The songs that are the best ones in my opinion are:

3 am, lyricwise, flow and beat aint that good.

We Made You, flow and lyrics are good, the beat and chorus aint.

Stay Wide Awake, the balance between flow, lyrics and beat is good so it's an overall good song, my favourite on the album.

Deja Vu, basically the same as 'Stay Wide Awake'. The beat, flow and lyrics are in good balance, not as good as the above though but not far behind either.

Beautiful, the only song Eminem produced by himself, like the beat and the flow, the lyrics not so much though.

Underground, nostalgia intro from 'I Still Don't Give A Fuck', I like this one for the same reason I like 'Deja Vu' and 'Stay Wide Awake', flow, beat and lyrics works good together on this one aswell.

So my top three:
1. Stay Wide Awake
2. Deja Vu & Underground
3. Beautiful

Rap was great in the 90s. Where the only way you got big was by leaking you songs for 5 years straight and giving away EPs for free. The stuff they also talked about represented what rap was about...talking about living in the slum. Finding it hard to blow

Now in the present, any one can become a rapper and get brought in by other big stars. Also we all hear the same recycled shit where people just talk about the same things "buss cap in ur ass" "i am a pimp"

Kadodo your sig is over kill with the size of it :p

Yeah it's true that rap is about living in the slum or finding it hard to blow. I have to say that a lot of artists started out that way. However, when you become so popular and very big in the industry it becomes useless to talk about the slum and stuff like that.

Yeah I used to have a software that helped reduce the size of it but I lost it in the process of rebooting my computer. But i'll change it soon. Hopefully before a mod takes it out.... lol

Lil' Fame and Billy Danzenie formed hardcore rap act M.O.P. The duo's debut single, "How About Some Hardcore," became popular and led to the release of their first album, To the Death, in the spring of 1994. Two years later, they delivered Firing Squad. Third record First Family 4 Life was released in March of 1998; Warriorz followed two years later. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music GuideYou know the rest. Featured on "Get Rich or Die Trying - The Soundtrack", "Bad Boys 2" and they've combo'd with Fat Joe, Fifty, Lil Jon, Stylez P and Jay Z among others.

Just heard M.O.P's new album "M.O.P. – Foundation (http://open.spotify.com/album/2dLzwBwJPaq3OaiAs1NmgD)" and it was the best album they've done so far. Songs like Stop Pushin, and Street Life built a bridge between gangster rap, grunge and soul which was very entertaining to listen to. The album differed between those genres and it was the same with the lyrics, one song was about Brooklyn where they come from, another song was about making it through hard times, one song was a praising and another one was about the streets.
They've varied their style and at the same time explored and tried to experience new combinations and create something fresh. Some songs were beyond expectations, but others were songs that you've heard too many times. I'll give it an 8.5/10 though for the creativity and for the brilliant songs "M.O.P. – Sharks In The Water (http://open.spotify.com/track/44MMXxN4SWVjbWOfZwNtrF)", "M.O.P. – Stop Pushin (http://open.spotify.com/track/0YkFhywBrI83zRlqU5y6IY)" and "M.O.P. – Blow The Horns (http://open.spotify.com/track/6sO1ZU5p8FFBLo4JFGXO6X)" that is a typical "Konvict Muzik" song (for you Akon, Marshall lovers) with both a chill base, rapping and a chorus in the oh-so-famous electrical autotune.

M.O.P - Foundation

http://nsa08.casimages.com/img/2009/09/05/090905014157987288.jpg

I'll start off with M.O.P's "comeback" album "Foundation" that is their first complete album since 2004. Let's start off with some background information about them...

"M.O.P. – Foundation (http://open.spotify.com/album/2dLzwBwJPaq3OaiAs1NmgD)" was the best album they've done so far.
The beat has definitely improved since "Warriorz" from 2000 (even tho Ante Up is one of their illest tracks ever. The album is very even. There aren't 3 sick tracks, 1 killer and then the rest is rubbish. It's rather even, some are better than others but overall it's very good.
They've varied their style and at the same time explored and tried to experience new combinations and create something fresh. A couple of songs were beyond expectations, but others felt like any other song that you've heard too many times with a mainstream old beat along with the same "gangsta" lyrics. – Blow The Horns (http://open.spotify.com/track/6sO1ZU5p8FFBLo4JFGXO6X)" with the latter as typical "Konvict Muzik" song (for you Akon, Marshall lovers) with both a "chill base", rapping and a chorus in the oh-so-famous electrical autotune.

The album doesn't start off with a skit or anything - in fact, there aren't any skits at all. It's a pure music album that delivers track after track and it starts off with a bang. I'd say this is their best tracks, their best song and deffo a CD to add to our collection of killer-cd's from NY along with Blaq Poet, Big Twin, Tragedy Khadafi And Trez and of course Raekwon.
Now I'm awaiting Cormega's next cd.

50 Cent - War Angel

http://i42.tinypic.com/9ux6w2.jpg

Woop Woop! Time to keep the change because next up is fifty with his album "War Angel". This is the raw, old-school 50, taking it back to those classic mixtape days. War angel features ALL brand new music from the boy fif, the hungry, grimey sounding 50, similar to the music he wrote in his grandfathers basement. I'm talking about the raw beat that we hear in GRoDT, Get Up etc. It's not the electrical mix that we hear from Timbaland etc. Now, now, It's not that I don't like Timbaland, what I mean is that this is a step back from his mixing with Akon, Timbaland etc. And it's not the chiller beat that we hear in Body Snatcher's that released in -08 feat. Fifty, Yayo and Banks which is the perfect music for chilling with a hookah or whatever you like *wink.
This album consists of music that you listen to while bodypumping at the gym, boxing or at the rawest clubs out there - tho probably mixed by some dj.

I scan through the cd to read the track names, lyrics, length and I smile. This is the good old fifty with raw lyrics,
~3min long beats. Perfect for one rapper - since he doesn't feat. anyone else in this album.
<3mins = too short, not enough lyrics etc
>3mins = boring / old, repeatedly...

*puts on the 1st song "1 line Niggas"*

1 Line Niggas is an excellent way to start off this cd. It's 2min16sec short but nevertheless a sick introduction to this CD. We hear the raw but oh so famous beat and he starts off with some talking then spills no time on 40secs intros. He starts off with a shabang!

The album is complete. He's not just back... he's BACK! And after listening to his album a couple of times I can easy say that 50 Cent – 1 Line Niggas, (http://open.spotify.com/track/4yStSInWRP9wsXHwde3u82)50 Cent – Cocaine (http://open.spotify.com/track/23rOGndYikfokLVCrRRZlS), 50 Cent – Codes (http://open.spotify.com/track/1pibKSY3c4itFvIFeqHzhk) and 50 Cent – Cream 2009 (http://open.spotify.com/track/2lH8r77eA1NmYC5ezRSpcu) is the best ones he's produced since GRoDT.

- Complete tracklist -

50 Cent – 1 Line Niggas (http://open.spotify.com/track/4yStSInWRP9wsXHwde3u82)
50 Cent – Codes (http://open.spotify.com/track/1pibKSY3c4itFvIFeqHzhk)

50 Cent – I Gotta Win (http://open.spotify.com/track/2Ml3wL2WTgJjyxblowMiLZ)

Execllent LP. One of fiftys best. A must have for everyone who's into his raw material. No autotune, no synth/techno sounds. Just a raw base, an instrumental pattern and his voice spittin' lyrics. Same themes but powered up! No tricks, no bad tracks, an awesome cover and a reasonable price.

Easy 9.5/10

fun fact - The beginning of "Cocaine" is taken from the movie "Blow" - you know, the movie where Johnny Depp acts as the drugdealer George.. ah nvm, check it out "HERE" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0221027/).

Rick Ross - Deeper than Rap

Original CD Cover
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_R36nzsirFoM/ScWWLrQzlkI/AAAAAAAABhc/D04jJpyLnR0/s400/Deeper_than_rap.jpg Maybach Mixtape Coverhttp://www.mixtapetorrent.com/system/files/maybachmusic2.jpg

1. Background

Rick Ross, or should I say William Roberts, as you might know started out rapping in Miami, aiming it to be one of the centers of rap once again. Influenced by the notorious B.I.G and Luther Campbell he started out in mid nineties. You might know him from his mixes with Trick Daddy, or his collabs with Akon and Konvict Muzik.

Rick Ross is currently appearing everywhere, as one of the key featured artists of the Terror Squad along with for example Lil’ Wayne, Akon and Trina which leaves him with not too much time to focus on himself and his own LPs. (Terror Squad is Fat Joe’s record label. Includes artists such as OZ, Tha Realest and DJ Khaled. It also includes producers such as DJ Khaled, Cool & Dre, StreetRunner and DJ LV.) However, he managed to spit out an album a year, but he needs to either increase production, feature more songs, or increase the quality because even though his featured songs is having a higher sale, his own albums aren't.

2. Track list

1. "*Mafia Music" The Inkredibles

2. "Maybach Music 2" (featuring T-Pain, Lil Wayne & Kanye West)

3. "*Magnificent" (featuring John Legend)

4. "*Yacht Club" (featuring Magazeen)

5. "Usual Suspects" (featuring Nas)

6. "*All I Really Want" (featuring The-Dream)

7. "*Rich off Cocaine" (featuring Avery Storm)

8. "*Lay Back" (featuring Robin Thicke)

9. "Murda Mami" (featuring Foxy Brown)

10. "*Gunplay" (featuring Gunplay)

11. "*Bossy Lady" (featuring Ne-Yo)

12. "*Face" (featuring Trina)

13. "*Valley of Death"

14. "*In Cold Blood"

15. "*Cigar Music (Bonus track)"

3. Album Comments

Okay, so on to the album. Personally, I like Rick Ross the best when he’s featured, or when he’s collabing with Akon or Marshall from Konvict Muzik but this album is really good. We have a lot of featured artists such as Lil Wayne, Kanye West, T-Pain, John Legend, Trina etc. It’s a pretty nice variety of artists which gives the album a nice vibe. Maybach Music 2 is an excellent track, prodded by J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and it’s to them I give creds to. It’s a nice, laid back vibe, nice amount of bass, not too heavy.
Making Lil Wayne end the song as the last featured artist before ending chorus by T-Pain was a great choice. Ever since I heard him ending “Takin Over” after Birdman I’ve always wanted him in the end of a song, not as a starter as he was in “9MM” even though he did a good job. (But Snoop & David Banner killed "9MM" :p)

The album is Rick Ross personified. This is his element, he does what he do best, laid back, chill rap at first, then the still chill, still laid back, but the heavier base, higher speed and more intense lyrics… south style of course.;)
50% of the lyrics is self praising, 25% of the lyrics is about money, 25% of the lyrics is about drugs/women. Okay not really, but you know what I mean. My top songs from the album? “Rich off Cocaine”, “Magnificent” and surprisingly enough, “Face”. I’m not a fan of Trina, but the two of them work great together, even though I dislike her whiny ass voice.
Nas is also doing a good job on the song "Usual Suspects".

(I have a feeling that Rick Ross is slowly moving towards the Rap/RnB mix. Not sure if that's what I want him to do or not...)

4. Recommended or Not?

I honestly can’t go all “deep shit y0 buy diz sick shitzz f0 sh0” on an album like this tbh. There're flaws. Well, not really flaws, It’s more… Let’s say that I’m missing things. I’m missing the deeper stuff. The name of the album is “Deeper than Rap” but what I see is pretty superficial. For example, take the song “Shot to the Heart”. Now that’s a classic, sick, great collab between Lil Wayne and Rick Ross. It’s personal, it has feelings, it’s deep. This album isn’t deep. It’s superficial. Yes, yes, it’s originally a Wayne song but Rick Ross features in it. The beat is from the Wayne song "Something You Forgot". The album sold less than Trilla the first week, got pretty decent reviews tho, and "Magnificent" is the only singel that got released from that album.

It's an album you can listen to once, maybe twice. But not an album that sticks with you. 7/10

50 Cent - War Angel

Yes Yes! Fiddy is Back! :tem

Indeed, that's a nice mixtape, for all who love his abrasive Hiphop Street Albums like 'Guess Who's Back' (and 'Get Rich or Die Tryin' kinda). One can almost forget that this rapper is a multimillionaire already :d
This one really proves he's far above Ja and Rick (booo! ;D).

And yet I'm more excited about him finally unleashing his delayed Before I Self Destruct LP, which will reportedly feature production from Dr. Dre (yay!), Timbaland (yay!), Scott Storch (yay!), Polow Da Don and more.

My favo tracks so far: 'I Line Niggas', 'Ok, Ya Right', 'Cocaine' (ft. Robin Thicke btw), and 'London Girl'..

-----
Blai I wonder whether you've heard Jay's latest Blueprint already. :amuse

It really is. It takes us back to his early days :p

Though, I do indeed miss one, or maybe two mixes with for example Akon. But I think that he wanted this album to be personal. No G-unit. No Dre, no-one else featuring except for him. I guess that that's the major reason why the beats keep pumping low and street-like, as they did before he got to the top.

Indeed, '1 Line Niggas' is indeed a beast track. :) The fact that it's nr 1 on the track was a very good choice tbh. But I did like all of his tracks, more or less.

Before I Self-Destruct LP is going to be kickass. On the paper it looks sick, and we know he are working very good with both Timbaland and Dre. I don't know much about Scott Storch and Polow Da Done... well, I don't know if he've worked with rappers before. I know he've done some RnB but he's also rather unfamiliar to me. Looking forward to that aswell a lot. I hope he'll still keep delivering and tbh, the one I want to hear him mixing most with is by far Dre :p The shit they've produced before is insane and Dre is easy one of the best prodders ever.

I have not heard it. Will check it out!!!

La Coka Nostras new album 'A Brand You Can Trust' is a dope lil' thing.

Ill Bills 'The Hour Of Reprisal' is good indeed but it'll never be Non Phixion, BLACK HELICOPTERS IN THE SKY!

On the swedish hiphop scene a group called Karetellen has gotten some attention, I tried listnin to their mixtape but I didnt like it, they claim to be Swedens first real gangsta-rap group, well there's a reason they're first: Swedes shouldn't try n' do gangsta-rap, 3 out of a possible 10 for them.

Other than that, one of my favourite swedish mc's got busted and is in jail, hopefully he'll get out soon. SLÄPP ÖRIS!

Wow, great review Blai. I'm ashamed to say it but I honestly didn't know fifty came out with a mixtape LP, how did this slip my mind. Thanks for this, it's just what I needed to refresh my old music.

Just like you said, the collection is awesome. I specially like 1 Line Niggas, Codes, Cream 2009, I'll Do Anything and Get The Message. Amazing album, it really takes me back to the "old" days. Man I can't wait for his new album Before I Self Destruct. The wait time is killing me. His single Get Up was just awesome, it got me hooked instantly and kept me hooked for weeks, the beat was just amazing. And of course Dre's highly anticipated album is a must when it comes out (if ever, lol).

You should definitely check out Jay-Z's latest blueprint. It has some really good tracks. Though I see it's a month since you last wrote here so I guess you've checked it out already.

Glad you like it!
Yes, the flow in his songs really brings us back to his early days. I do really like that his songs are short, because since it's not a huge variation between the song styles/topics we'd get tired of it, but since the songs are so short it becomes really enjoyable.

Oh, Get Up, when I heard it the first time I thought that I just GOT to have it on my mp3. It's sooo extreme! You could have it at the gym, when you're running, when you're on the bus, it doesn't matter where you are, that beat pumps you UP! The energy in the track is insane and it just keeps unleashing every time you play it.

Ah, about The Blueprint 3, Off that and Empire state of mind. Really neat tracks! Though, I must say that I still enjoy Renegade from The Blueprint more than the new songs from the 3rd one. (I blame Eminem ;)) I definitely feel that The Blueprint 3 deffo has songs that are better than , for example Swagga Like Us.

I can write a short review of it tomorrow if you'd like to see it ^^.
I've kinda been busy these last 3weeks so I haven't had time to even fully listen to Ying Yang Twins new album enough to classify it as good or bad compared to their previous work.
Though I do recommend you to check out Snoop Dog's new single Gangsta Luv that features The Dream. Flo Rida also released a new song called Jump featured Nelly Furtado. Neither good nor bad, it's Flo Rida. It's on par with his rest stuff.

Absolutely, write a review of it if you have the time. I'll of course read it first thing tomorrow. It'd be cool to compare opinions about the album. And I agree, Renegade is just to awesome, it's an undying classic. I take it you're an Eminem fan too. Didn't you like Swagga Like Us? I found the beat in that song really addicting :p

I remember the first time I heard Get Up was at the gym, I think before christmas last year sometime if I don't remember wrong? Or was it spring? I'm not sure anymore, lol. Though I heard it at the gym, and I instantly thought it was extreme, then after hearing it several times at the gym I just had to get it on my iPod, and since then it's been one of my favorites (lately).

Btw, Snoop's song was awesome! Thanks again. Finally some refreshing music. The length is just perfect. I love when songs I really like have a length around 4 minutes. It makes the song lasting and long, without making it too long. Epic beat once again, love it ;) Just keep on informing about new singles, it's always something one person alone doesn't find.

I also listen to Y Society. Damu's beats are outside this world. Travel At Your Own Pace is one the best albums I have heard. I heard in an interview that they were supposed to be release an album in the year 2009 but they decided to scrap it. Hopefully there will be a Y Society album this year.

timbaland is shit, not 'the' shit just plain shit, feces, crap, poo, excrements. :yelling

good producers include but are not limited to: snowgoons, chum the skrilla guerilla, stoupe the enemy of mankind, dj large, embee, dr. dre and masse.

fuck timbaland!

^ :eek How can you forget the Alchemist??? :blink One of my favourite producers! Chemical Warfare :noworry was the shit! :amuse

Yea, I agree iPirate - Timbo has fallen and most of his music nowadays is shit. I preferred his work from the 90's tbh.

I just had a quick listen to Malice n Wonderland and tbh I didn't really like it. 'Secrets' was an alright tune (glad to see BattleCat still producing smooth west coast tunes), Gangsta Love is a typical 'fun-like' song for the charts and I dig it a bit (but becomes very dull after a couple of plays)..I don't know.. I might come back and give it a try again in a couple weeks or so.

Evil3ye
January 11, 2010, 10:58 AM
Hmm I did not like Malice'n'Wonderland either. It kinda was too monotone for me. Too oldschool-ish and I dunno.. I not like the feature songs either. Special was quite ok though. He definitely should work more often with Pharrell, cuz the collabo songs are usually great.

Timbo's was not that bad actually.. there surely are some nice tracks.. but all in all it's shit, I agree. I can't be doing with the voice mixer, it just totally suck. Also she should not even try singing Rnb/Pop or whatever it was supposed to be -_-; ..hate the most beats,.. just too electronic/trash-poppy/w/e.. The songs are all (!) way (!) too long, it's no fun at all.

Some songs are did enjoy tho' were;
Lose Control - I was quite surprised, but Jojo die a really nice job. Nice pop song!
Long Way Down - less Timboparts would be better though
Undertow - great mid-tempo song, no voice mixer, no annoying-electro beats, Esthero got a nice voice, but also here too much Timbo
The One I Love - well yeah  Keri Hilson  guess it's for the fans of the first Shock Value.. I'd like to have some more songs with her on the second part though..

the rest annoys me. I kinda liked If We Ever Meet Again and We Belong To The Music aswell.. but after listening to em few times they started freakin me out. :oh

As for Wayne.. it leaked out a month ago already, but well.. it was said it is supposed to be a Rock album or whatever.. but IMO adding in a few e-guitar parts does not make crappy rapper to rockstars :facepalm

There's a song I adore though.. Drop The World (feat. Eminem) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyNAtA7eCSM)

Xadyu
February 01, 2010, 08:55 AM
Eminem also released Relapse: Refill. It has 8 or 7 bonustrack (including Forever). He did that because he felt bad for us that it takes so long for Relapse 2 to be released.

It has some good tracks like Music Box and Elevator, you should check that out.
For the rest I don't actually know of any new Hip Hop tracks (that are any good).

Weapon_X
February 01, 2010, 09:05 AM
I think Relapse is better then Relapse: Refill. If only Dre didn't produce the Relapse albums, Eminem should have done it himself. Eminem's produced Marshall Mathers, The Eminem Show and Encore, which were HUGE albums, Marshall and Eminem Show selling 19 million each. Relapse has only sold 2 mil so far. >.< Clearly Eminem's a better producer then Dre, though I'm not takin' anything away from Dre lol

Xadyu
February 01, 2010, 09:17 AM
How is Relapse any better then Relapse: Refill? It's the same album only with 7 bonustracks.

Eminem's not a better producre then Dr. Dre. It's just that the Marshal Mathers LP and the Eminem Show were great albums. Encore was a mainstream hit which is way too overrated, don't get me wrong, personally I love the album, but it's too overrated. Much thanks to the mainstream sound which is on it and because it was his official return to the music business.

Relapse has less good promotion. I mean, We Made You did a good job on promoting. 3AM didn't, mainly because of the "grotesque" video clip that only gets aired after a certain time and Beautiful's underrated.

Most people (I'm not talking about fans here) dislike or just don't care about Relapse(: Refill) because it's not the Eminem they're used too. Yes, he still kills people in his tracks and he talks shit, but it's too different from his good albums.

It won a lot of prizes and all, it's been on number 1 in a lot of charts, but it just doesn't compete with his previous albums, it has nothing to do with the producing of the tracks in my opinion.

The beats and all the other producing jobs are done good to great. If you want to blame someone, it's Eminem who's at fault.

3c
February 01, 2010, 09:24 AM
I agree with Xadyu here. There's just something with the old Eminem albums. It's a "feeling" you have when listening to them. And that feeling is simply gone in Relapse, to be honest I think the same goes for Encore despite it's huge success. The old Eminem feeling simply isn't there, though Relapse certainly has some good tracks, and I've been listening to Beautiful ever since it came out, I still like it. Eminem "in his prime" had something going for him, he had vision and spirit, and even if the spirit and vision is still there to some extent, he doesn't manage to sell it to his fans like he used to.

Btw thanks guys, I had heard Forever, but I didn't know about Relapse: Refill. There you see how easy it is to miss something. Music Box was a nice track.

Prom Queen is one of the worst tracks on the album if you ask me, it's disgusting.

Drop the World is the best damn thing on there. I can't even remember what other tracks I enjoyed a bit, been quite a while since I listened to that shit.

But I can still remember the song Get A Life, I enjoyed that very much. Mainly because I'm totally into that kind of pop music from way back ('50's). Although it's more Trash Punk Rock-pop here.. T_T

Drop the World is the only song that's fricking awesome on the Rebirth LP...the rest of the tracks are just bs. Anyway, enough of the weezy fool....

:err Chipmunk? If you mean the UK Mc/Rapper...well.. :barf... he was an excellent Mc/performer in the underground scene but this pop-crap his making is just trash. It's highly unlikely that he'll make a true hip hop lp on a major record deal/label..well here in the UK at least. *I don't see him breaking in the states :XD*

No rapper over here has truly represented the UK in the hip hop/grime scene imo. Lowkey & Sway Dasafo are probably the only two who I have huge respect for. I give credit to Klashnekoff & Giggs *to a certain extent* as well.

I'm really looking forward to hearing more from Jay Electronica (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GezNFRgVkHg)! I think he has huge potential... maybe not in the commercial scene but defintely for the true hip hop fans around the world!:tem

@ Blai - Yep. We were talking about Tinie Tempah - Pass Out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07Ka9T7ech0&feature=related). (I hope this link works!)

I know it's not from the Afro Samurai OST and I've searched for it, it's not on his myspace or anything.

@ Sema - That's ashame. Well when you get the chance you should definitely try and check out some of those tracks and let me know what you think of them. :) Btw: the Drake link was broken, so I replaced it with a working link from youtube!

:D Here are some new tracks that I've added to my main playlist:

Timbaland - Symphony (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHvE9o0g1CM)
Snoop Dogg - Secrets Feat. Kokane (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MITKg82_tco)
88-Keys - Stay Up (Viagra) Feat. Kanye West (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1968JCaO04) :amuse
Freeway & Jake One - Throw Your Hands Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4lJT-8uTh8)
Prodigy - Stuck On You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4UWLe50KsU) Great beat. :thumbs
Fat Joe - That White (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sqnNktfgKE) I can't believe Premo gave Fat Joe this beat. -_-;
Bishop Lamont & Indef - The Big Payback (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ILidxFxEPs) Beat is crazy, I love DJ Khalil's sound.

Come on guys, share some of your music as well. :shakefist

Hmm.. found a nice song on Snoop Dogg's EP (?) More Malice. IMO the best Hiphop song this year so far. Check it out, if you haven't yet.

Snoop Dogg ft. KiD CuDi - That Tree (http://www27.zippyshare.com/view.jsp?locale=de&key=70913252)

Also if you're bored I'd really recommend you CuDi's latest mixtape How To Make It In America (http://datnewcudi.com/2010/02/08/download-how-to-make-it-in-america-the-mixtape/). Got some quite decent tracks on it, however not that really for oldschool-hiphop fans. It's pretty much Kanye influenced and what not, so basically 'hippop'-w/e, still very worth mentioning.

Anybody here like Tech N9ne? Ludacris is going hard too with his new songs.

Hey Enigma! Welcome to the HipHop thread! :tem

I love Tech N9ne's music. His extremely underrated and to some degree "ignored" in the "game" \o/. It's ashame because he deserves much more world-wide recognition imo but luckily he is doing very well in the independent scene. ;)

Some of my favs from N9ne:

Here Comes Tecca Nina (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeKzMjnFlYc)
The Beast (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGMXoib6ei4)
Riot Maker (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AMiiwc6bBA&feature=related)
Demons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHmf9VxbY18&feature=PlayList&p=83499487376E0777&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=21) (from his most recent LP titled: K.O.D)

The Sickology 101 LP was really good as well. I loved the opening track; Sickology 101 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtkXS9j_4UU) Ft Crooked I & Chino XL and the track called Red Nose (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyZyrxBoHqY) was cool too.

Have you heard Aerola (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_YKq3jPujc)? That song is so good and funny at the same time. :XD It's basically taking the p**s out of all those pop-rap songs lol. The opening skit to the song is quite amusing as well. It's an amusing and "fun" tune to listen to. "Oooh (Areola!), Oooh (Areola!), Oooh (Areola!)". :amuse (Not to everyone's taste mind you. :oh)

Ludacris is a talented artist but I'm very disappointed with his latest LP; Battle of the Sexes. :( Very poor. How Low was alright. The only other tune I quite like is "I Know You Got A Man Feat. Flo Rida (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZOi8mprxBo)". I'm hoping he puts more effort into his next release because this battle of the sexes was just utter crap imo. :s It's not what I call real hip hop tbh.

Thanks Buggy!

The reason he's so underrated is because he is underground rather than mainstream. He's afraid that his music will change if he does go mainstream so that's why he doesn't. And you're right. He does deserve to be known by everyone as a great rapper. LOL I heard the Areola song. It's too funny :XD.

Here are some of my favorites:

Fan Or Foe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNDAZ2hwk1Y)
Poh Me Anutha (Sickology 101) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqrrpomod08)
Midwest Choppers 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wq87OfnHAuo)
B Boy (KOD) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMUab_2Go6I)
Strange Music Box (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6FNB2Hy5j8)
Pinocchiho (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeoamXSRbfs)

Well, basically all his songs are good. His flow is crazy!

OMG I'm so happy that you feel the same way about that album! :D That was one of the shittiest albums I've ever heard. There were only a few songs I liked from that album. I wish he went in crazy like his other albums. It's definitely not on my iPod :notrust. What I meant by his new stuff was him being featured on other songs lol. Like "Atlanta Zoo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RpO9u9D77g)". I loved his verse in that! I also enjoyed his "Conjure: A Hustler's Spirit" mixtape. He made some crazy freestyles on there. My favorites on there were:

Turnt Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDKhjFgZ19U)
Oh Let's Do It (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xY1h6NbwL_4)
Patna Dem (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDszIfUMw7A)
Born An OG (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bRCXTqnxL8&feature=related)

This wasn't on the mixtape or the album(regardless of what the link says) but it's very good:

Mindfreak (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOEorxwKwWs)

I'm hoping his new "Ludaversal" album will make up for it. :D

^ Nice lil collection Sema! The second track did it for me. :nod

B.o.B - Nothin' On You ft. Bruno Mars (Favourite track atm) The music video is alright I guess but the tune was definitely released at the right time; SUMMER TIME BaBy!!!

Nas & Damian Marley - As We Enter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGnGKKByd9k&feature=related) - Really good tune imo. I always loved their collab on Road To Zion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mmAuHieD7Q&feature=related)and I can't wait to listen to their Distant Relatives LP (collaboration album).

Styles P - It's Over (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7HHQFku6q8) - CRAZY BEAT! :nuts

Cypress Hill - Strike The Match (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRe6tBLM8j4) - ZOMG DJ KHALIL MADE THE BEAT. :nuts Definitely a neck breaker. xD

Oh yea and here's a classic: Xzibit feat. Ras Kass and Saafir - 3 Card Molly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYKbBkb8BSQ)- I've been recently going through my old lp's and I completely forgot about this tune xD lol. "Pull your spine through your mouth and watch your body drop" - :lmao

The tracks I have heard so far from the Nas & Damien Marley album are very good. It has a high probability of reaching platinum status. The new single from the upcoming Eminem album is good. I liked some tracks on Relapse but overall the album was/is a letdown. The Recovery album is looking very promising.

Yep. I got the LP a couple of weeks ago. Pure awesomeness. Damian & Nas definitely cooked up and fused the right balance of reggae and hip hop throughout the whole LP. Tribal War Feat. K'naan was amazing! Great lyrics. I can't wait to see them live; they're coming to the UK this summer...I need to get tickets! :yelling

I love the beat of "Patience (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhcPPfJKs8I)". That vocal sample just takes you into a whole new world. Eminem's Recovery LP is coming out soon. I'm definitely going to get that one. :nod

Recent tunes I've been listening to:

On another note, hands down to distant relatives, I love this type of hip-hop. It's so relaxed and the lyrics are superb. Way better thank 95% of the mainstream shit that the "gangstas" produce nowdays... half of the media hiphop is embarrasing damn it...

Overall, Eminem's Recovery LP was alright imo. It didn't give me the satisfaction and enjoyment that his previous LP's did; most notably for me was and still is The Eminem Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Eminem_Show). Talkin' To Myself Feat. Kobe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuSQtYiz8Uc) is the best track on Recovery imo. DJ Khalil did a fricking awesome job with the beat and Kobe is a beast on the chorus. I still haven't gotten use to Em's new vocals; I find that to be one of the problems with both Relaspe & Recovery. Yes, our voices change over time (sound-wise) but I guess taking so many drugs fk'd it up even more?

It was great to see so many producers outside of the Aftermath camp getting a submission or two in on Em's project and it was quite interesting to hear how Eminem changed his flow and lyrical arrangement to go with the "modern day hip hop" sound. I still find that Boi1da producer should stop using Fruity Loops (FL Studios) to make his beats and go with something better and more professional. He definitely has talent but I feel that he'll have a lot more potential and success if he expands his musical tools. FL limits real musicians imho.

What was missing? Eminem's own production capabilities (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eminem_production_discography). I feel that Dre is backing away from Em very slowly...I wonder what the future holds for them both once/if Detox gets released.

@ Sema - I will check out Madvillain's new stuff soon. He rarely disappoints the street/underground fans.

@ Blai & goldb - I'm glad you guys like the Distant Relatives LP! Definitely, one of my favourite LP's of all time. So what song(s) do you like the most?
