I nominate Yotsuba Koiwai from Yotsuba&! for best female lead.
She has never failed to make me laugh.
crimsonlink310
December 18, 2011, 07:06 PM
I nominate Lucy Heartfilia from Fairy Tail as Best Female Lead. She has always helped Natsu out and is a powerful character who has grown since the manga has started.
EDIT: Fixed Lucy's name for hoeru's sake ;)
Zeltrax
December 18, 2011, 10:33 PM
I nominate Kyoko from Skip Beat! Her randomness always turns out to amazingness.
She's flowing with awesomeness.
Ustegius
December 19, 2011, 05:23 AM
I nominate Gally from GUNNM (aka. Battle Angel Alita)
She is the epitome of character developement. Her story is full of tragedy, yet she survives. I find it very hard not to like her. And she is really the lead character. Not just some damsel-in-distress/fanservice gal like way too many woman character are in manga. She carries the story, it is her story.
ick
December 19, 2011, 06:28 AM
I nominate Megumi Noda from Nodame Cantabile for Best Female Lead.
'cause Gyaboo! : )
Darjaille
December 19, 2011, 07:52 AM
I nominate Kuchiki Rukia from Bleach.
I really love her character. The tomboyish side, smacking, violence, kindness, deepness, strong will.... yeah, I nominate her.

I nominate Lucy from Elfen Lied
hoeru
December 20, 2011, 12:26 AM
I nominate Nami-swan from One Piece for Best Female Lead. She's actually Oda's best worked out female character. While more or less misused in the anime movies as "damsel in distress" in the manga she showed many times that she isn't helpless at all (while still conscious of course).
I nominate Lucy from Fairy Tail as Best Female Lead. She has always helped Natsu out and is a powerful character who has grown since the manga has started.
Just for the notes, her complete name is Lucy Heartfilia. ;)
Mikihara
December 21, 2011, 04:24 AM
I nominate Kaname Chidori from Full Metal Panic Fumoffu for the Best Female Lead category
She's beautiful, honest, above average in studies (I won't say she's very clever lol) but rough, loud, tomboy-ish and fun. Despite all that she never gives me the impression of Mary-Sue, which is one of the very few female characters that never make me dislike them
3c
December 21, 2011, 09:58 AM
I nominate Kuchiki Rukia from Bleach.
I really love her character. The tomboyish side, smacking, violence, kindness, deepness, strong will.... yeah, I nominate her.
Word. Rukia is simply put "ftw". Can't get enough of her. Want more of her.

Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail.

Mikasa Ackerman from Shingeki no Kyojin for being the most kick ass female lead period.
Kaiten
December 24, 2011, 10:02 AM
I second Mikasa. She is the toughest, coolest, most ass kicking female lead in manga.
ErosVp
December 24, 2011, 03:33 PM
War Mikasa!!! She is really kickass...

December 24, 2011, 07:55 PM
Mikasa Ackerman from Shingeki no Kyojin for being the most kick ass female lead period.
I guess I'll jump on the bandwagon to support this nomination as well. :p
Mikasa is a great character, well-developed and a fantastic portrayal of a strong, competent woman. To say she kicks ass is an understatement.

I support Gally GUNNM and GUNNM last order
Gally = <3
I support Gally from GUNNM as well. There aren't that many real female lead in shounen/seinen anyways. When I try to think about one, I just have two names popping in my mind: Gally & a certain claymore ... So, the choice was easy to do.

I support this nomination (Mikasa Ackermann), couldn't have said it any better.
Christina Sierra
January 02, 2012, 06:16 AM
I'd like to nominate Hildegarda/Hilda from Beelzebub as Best Female Lead. Strong and proud despite being in a servant position, charismatic as the male lead Oga, able to be womanly and motherly without the weak female clichè.
yukihime03
January 03, 2012, 03:57 AM
I nominate Erza Scarlet!
BlackHair
January 03, 2012, 04:58 PM
I nominate Erza Scarlet from Fairytail.
Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail. this one deserves a nomination.
Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail.
Come on, she's one of the most badass females on manga aside Claymore girls but She is more pervert and fun.
I support Fairy Tails Erza Scarlet. She is a acharackter known for her strenght, not some usual shounen support chick. Furthermore her main fighting style is sword-based. Swords are always a win for me - > Japans samruai xD

January 07, 2012, 03:56 AM
I don't consider Erza, Lucy, Hilda, Chidori, Rukia ... as "lead". For me the lead should be the main character only. So, it's Natsu in fairy tail & Oga in Beelzebub ... It's Ichigo in Bleach & sosuke in FMP ...
That's why I voted for Gally. She is a real undiscutable lead.
I admit that lucy, Chidori & Hilda can be considered as leads due to the fact that they are as present in the manga as the main character. But Erza & Rukia are clear support characters
Darjaille
January 07, 2012, 05:44 AM
Rukia is a female lead. Ichigo is 'main lead', where Rukia is 'female lead/fixed heroine' (Jump web, events). Being a lead and main character is something different I think.
The same would be for Lucy, Natsu is male lead/main character where Lucy is female lead/fixed heroine.
Although I agree on Erza, she seems more like support to me.
Well, you can nominate who you think should win the category ^^
Ustegius
January 07, 2012, 07:05 AM
Agreed with Darjaille, the mentioned characters can be considered as "female leads", and they are in sense as the most significant/most page time/other ways notable female characters in their respective mangas. But they are not leads in a sense that Gally is. Gally really is the lead character. And wonderfull character in general too. That's why I nominated her and will vote her. None of the other characters mentioned here do not deserve the win as much her imho. Not saying that I don't like those characters, in partcilar Erza and Hilda are two of my fav shonen heroines. Just not as awesome and leading as Gally :nod

Screen time doesn't make a character a leading character, the leading characters are the ones which the story and the plot focuses on and it moves according to their events.

Really? Quoting Wikipedia? Again, screen time doesn't make a character a leading character, it just makes it the one with more screen time. No one thinks that R2-D2 and C3PO were the main leads and they have most screen time than the rest. They even go thought the whole series.
To be a main character the requirement is quite simple: To have the plot spin around you while you tell the story. In the case of Fairy Tail, the one who is telling the story is not Natsu, it's Lucy. And the title of the piece is not Dragon Slayers, it's Fairy Tail. The damn guild. That means that the main lead of Fairy Tail is Fairy Tail. That also means that each character there has the chance to be the main one. Being the fact that Erza does not only have major screentime but the story was about her most of times, you can consider her a leading character without too much trouble.
You're thinking too much like Hollywood and forgetting that manga is not necessarily the same. Two major different formats.
Darjaille

Wikipedia? Ok.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leading_actor "Sometimes there is more than one significant leading role in a dramatic piece, and the actors are said to play co-leads; a large supporting role may be considered a secondary lead. Award nominations for acting often reflect such ambiguities. Thus, sometimes two actors in the same performance piece are nominated for Best Actor or Best Actress -- categories traditionally reserved for leads. There can even be controversy over whether a particular performance should be nominated in the Best Actor/Actress or Best Supporting Actor/Actress category.
A title role often is not necessarily the lead."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_lead "(Redirected from Female lead)
Leading lady is an informal term for the actress who plays a secondary lead or supporting role, usually a love interest, to the leading actor in a film or play. It is not usually applied to the leading actress in the performance if her character is the protagonist."

Forget about the lead & support next year & just go with best female character & best male character ... We wouldn't have this really stupid conversation.

I voted for Gally but I hesitated. I was tempted to vote for Erza in order to make her win both Best lead & Best Support ... Where is my "rolleyes" smiley when I need it ?
I confirm what I already said:
Forget about the lead & support next year & just go with best female character & best male character ...

Really, Gally is the only female lead here in the core meaning of the word. The others are nice characters too (especially Mikasa and Erza) but they just don't cut it. They do not carry the story in the way Gally does nor reach the same character depth as her. And she is also hot and kick-ass.

She is from GUNNM. The character in my current set.
Cybernetics specilists Ido finds half of a beautifull cyborg girl from a dump yard. He takes it with him, and rebuilts her a body, to find out that she has amnesia. He names her Gally after his late cat. Slowly a chain of events leads Gally regaining a bit of her past, a martial art called Panzerkunst. Which leads her into a live of a bountyhunter. For starters.

Why isn't Mikasa winning? She is the rare female character in a shounen-action series that does things. Mikasa is the character that everyone who has ever complained about Sakura has been dreaming of. And while I love Nami, Mikasa would kick her ass without breaking a sweat.
