I'd also like to discover standup comedians. Those are the four I've enjoyed the most until now :

Dylan Moran

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZWZZRZDcSQ

Jimmy Carr

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmjydCTMnuA

(French) Dieudonné

Finally made a thread huh!? Welcome!

Now I can start posting those congolese music recommendations you wanted in here.

So you like Jimmy Carr eh? I've also seen some stuff from Dieudonne on French TV a few years ago.

Hehe, that was the decisive factor for this thread's creation :D

Yupyup, I find Jimmy Carr to be a very funny lad, with his scathing, quick repartee. And he's a fine example of the idiom "don't judge a book by its cover", that adds an interesting touch to his style imo.

What stuff ? Him being scrapped by the (mainstream) media due to his infamous reprehensible sketch ?

He's one of my favourite British comics, there's also Jason Manford who is a very "lad's comedian" type, Oh gosh the names have just escaped me....when I remember the rest I'll come back :sweat

I can't remember what the sketches were, it was a long time ago, but I just recognised his face and that's how I knew I'd seen him before. Really? When did that happen? :blink

Mmmmm, Jason Manford huh, just saw his sketch on football manager, I like it, thanks. :D
The Apollo Theater seems to be to Manchester what the Auditorium Stravinski is to Montreux, I'll probably find a lot of interesting standup comedians if I take a peek at the schedule.

It happened in 2003, on french television. With just one sketch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFbtTt1iIOM) (well, I must admit it was poor, by comparison with his usually high quality sketches, that didn't help his cause), he became the scapegoat of something that was far bigger than what he could handle, as a matter of fact, he coherently handled it badly imo.

P.S. Thanks for the soothing reward :D

Dunno if I've seen that sketch about Football Manager one. To be fair, I haven't seen any new stuff in a while. Oh, I have had the pleasure of seeing him perform live, whilst working in 2010. Saw Jimmy Carr perform at the same event the following year, he really knows how to get a reaction out of the crowd lol :amuse

Alright teubier, tell us a bit more about yourself. You should have written a formal introduction in your first post, but well :bored

My apologies, but it was the best I could come up with as an introduction. After all, I really don't bear much interest in myself, so I don't know how to start. That's why I wrote that I would answer to questions, should there be some. Never been an exuberant kind of guy. What might you want to know ?

OK..tell me how and when you fell in love with manga??
I really fell in love with manga (and not anime) while reading (again, not the anime, I discovered the anime far sooner) Captain Tsubasa, when I was fifteen~sixteen (that would make 2001~2002). It coincided with what felt like a sizeable football adventure, and laid the last, decisive stone. I did read Dragon Ball (kinda ignited my love for manga though) and a few other titles when I was younger, but I was still more into european bande-dessinée, or even comics, then.

What has changed after you discovered the "manga world of goodies"??
:gwah I'm not getting the meaning of this question...

Have you ever attented a comic/manga convention :zomg??
A few french conventions, yes. The Japan Expo in 2003/2008/2010, and the Epita (nowadays called Epitanime), in 1999 if I recall correctly. My best memories being those of the Epita. Happy, peaceful & innocent times, and the crowd was bearable.

^ Huh ? Feministic ? Why ?

I was already acquainted with the drawing style since I read Angel Densetsu, and I did a couple of years before reading Claymore. There is something about Yagi's style that simply astounds me...

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2315/1558474977_b725d8e788_z.jpg?zz=1

And the main protagonists being females, I don't see how that could be an issue, shouldn't I like women-like characters ? Well, I do, all of them. :hee

If it's about not being man enough, then don't be afraid, I can eat Takoyaki right off the hotplate. O0

Ancy

don't be afraid??? :hurr

Actually I'm not :oh...anyway, I thought you read Claymore because of the story..and the story is quite feministic..just think about the fact that most women are claymore, whilst most men are yoma, in other words stupid demonic beings lead only by instinct and without intelligence (except Isley :zomg, Rigardo and Dauf who are awakened beings/abyssal).

Teubier
January 14, 2012, 05:22 AM
:s Well, thing is, I don't really leave the realm of Fantasy fiction to interact with reality. So it's pretty hard to think about it in 'reality' terms to me, and it's not the bokbunjajoo & yebisu flowing though my body that would disagree. But I guess it borders on feminism if you include those terms to the story.

He where did you find it, it's really hard to find in France. I tasted it once in a journey in Asia. I don't remember it clearly but I did not dislike it. I tried to buy some dry one in a chinese store but the I didn't like the taste. I guess fresh is better.

Hello k-dom,

A friend bought one at the Tang Frères store in Paris XIIIe (the biggest one located at avenue d'Ivry), but it was a few years ago already. I'm not 100 % sure that they still sell some nowadays -I used public transportations for my last trips there, so except for flavoured candy/wafer/ice cream... since I couldn't bring back the real fruit due to its smell, I did not think about making sure that they do-, but I believe that among Tang Frères & Paris Store, which is really close to T.F., there should be some available.

I didn't try it in it's dry form. *noted on the little book of to do things* But it's indeed probably far better fresh, from what I could grasp.

That must have been nice tasting this kind of food in this context :hee where did you taste it ?

Fist of the Blue Sky (2001+) is a prequel to Fist of the North Star (83-88). One of the most noticeable difference, imho, is the lighter tone, that is probably mainly due to the fact that it takes place in the 1930s and not in an post-apocalytpic world.

Thank you :). I wouldn't get bored of seeing any of the movies I listed earlier, but if I have to give rise to five of those, then it would be :
_ A Scene at the Sea by Takeshi Kitano. Probably the most soothing of the lot, not only did Joe Hisaishi orchestrate the Soundtrack, but there is also my favourite japanese actor playing (Susumu Terajima), and the sea... :hee
_ Made in Britain by David Leland & Alan Clarke. Tim Roth. :zomg And the theme is both powerful and inspiring to me.
_ The Sunset Limited adapted by Tommy Lee Jones. McCarthy's book was brilliant, and TLJ adapted it almost perfectly imho. Another great theme, and two stunning actors (TLJ and Samuel L. Jackson) giving Life and Soul to it.
_ Green Snake by Tsui Hark. Because of Joey Wong mainly, and because of the whole dreamy realm created.
_ 2046 by Wong Kar Wai. Exactly like Green Snake, except 'Joey' becomes 'Faye'.

And how did you find Drive? I really loved it and particularly the soundtrack. I love The Mask; one of the first films I saw in french; long time ago :amuse.

I found it really, really good. Enough to go watch it a second time at the theater, and I almost never go to the theater. I learned about it at the end of 2010, and I was eager to watch it. Not only because of Ryan Gosling & Nicolas Winding Refn, whom are imho always good news for an incoming movie, but also and above all because of the soundtrack. Nightcall & A Real Hero are songs I knew beforehand (following the Valérie Collective since 2005~2006), so I expected a lot from Drive. It did not disappoint one bit.

Love The Mask too :XD

Ryan Gosling was really good in that film; one of his best roles imo. Those 2 songs are also my favourites and I need to get the album. I really liked the way the film was directed and the 80s feel to it. The Pace of the film was handled really well too, with the increase violence and the the music went well with it.

French dubbing for movies has never been a problem for me, the problem I found was in Anime that later when I learnt more about Japanese culture and a teeny bit about the language most of the stuff didn't make sense. Prime example is Fist of the Northern Star with the whole "Haut Couteau" business :lmao

What do you mean by "I need to get the album" ? Buying or dling ? Should it be the later, it shouldn't be too hard to find a working link (I'll check on mikkisays if some are still active).
Refn did a great job indeed. And the violent scenes are something, he didn't compromise on it (heck, he never does, the Pusher trilogy is good example) which added a lot of intensity to the movie, given that most of the time it is kinda quiet (or should I say subtle). The 'quietness' of the soundtrack gave birth to a few awkward situations in the theater, both times :teehee

Love MC Solaar, Disiz and IAM. IAM are my favourite french artists; such good lyricists. Saian Supa Krew are also one of my favourites, I'm really into old school music and some french rappers seem to be very good at keeping rap old school and simply about lyrical content. Booba is the exception as he's very US-like but I love his tracks from a few years ago.

Yupyup, Iam are by far my favourite french rap artists too, I listened to the "L'école du micro d'Argent" album all day long, at the end of the 20th century.
I really enjoy Saian Supa Crew as well, mostly good vibes in their songs.
Concerning Booba, imho, he lost his appeal when he changed his flow and started spouting (almost) complete crap. That started happening between 2004~2006, if I recall well. As you say, he's very US-like now. I really liked what he did with Ali in Lunatic though, and I must admit that I listened to the album "Temps Mort" a lot back in 2002~2003.

What decisive factor??? :confused

Oh noes ! I don't know how to reply, and how to understand the confused smiley, since you posted a couple of songs (thanks :hee), but in case you really don't remember :

Hehe, that was the decisive factor for this thread's creation :D :p

I can't say that I like him, all of him, since I only listened to the "Midi 20" album back in 2006. However, I really liked this album (particularly Chercheur de phases), and GCM is a pretty good lyricist imho.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_awVnrp68M

J'me suis dit poser mes textes, ça pourrait me faire plaisir

Ken le Survivant was one of the series I grew up watching, they had to dub it down so it could be suitable for French kids TV. Chevaliers du Zodiaque was another, Nicky Larson, L'ecole de Champions, Olive et Tom, Ranma 1/2, etc Childhood tv was so awesome!

Oh man, I feel nostalgic now.
Awesome french version opening of City Hunter (Nicky Larson) :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ef_hDG5DOE
Top notch lyrics.

Ranma 1/2, well I would admit that I like this opening one only because I grew up with it. I'm not sure I 'd appreciate if I discovered it just now. :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mx3UhB3y2VA

Dragon Ball Z, strong nostalgic feelings, even if the japanese opening was waaaaaaaay better :

Dans la chaleur de la nuit, le mal est toujours puni. Aucun danger ne l'impressione... Even 15 years after, I still remember the chorus lyrics by heart, that's quite scary

The French generics were great before Club Dorothée animators trust them all. It's quite funny, that when Minet says Ranma un demi, I hear the generic of Bioman...
I don't know if you guys know about coucoucircus (http://www.coucoucircus.org/da/index.php), unfortunatly I learn about it only after its problem with the SACEM (http://www.ecrans.fr/Coucoucircus-Il-etait-une-fois-La,12264.html). ^ That would be "Mon Chéri" addressed to a male, and "Ma chérie" addressed to a female. "Mon Chéri" is already pretty nice, "Mon Amour" (for both female & male) is too, and my favourite is "Ma chère et tendre"=female / "Mon cher et tendre"=male (it fits better an already well established relationship though). "Mon dulciné / Ma dulcinée" is poetic but might be a little too much -_-;

Agreed. It's a real sanctuary for our childhood, the last quote in the article from Benoît is very accurate.

Soooo... whatcha favourite song/LP/artist at the moment?
I don't really have one. I discover between 200 and 500 new songs each week, but I do have a permanent playlist that I listen to everytime I go out. Within this playlist, the three artists from whom I chose the most songs are Susumu Hirasawa, Nujabes and Jan Hammer (Miami Vice :hee).

Mon coeur, mon amour, mon amour mon coeur...

Bon t 'embrasse fort mon bébé j' t' embrasse fort fort fort

I don't know either. Looking at wikipedia right now, I guess that not only her tunes are popular (in the 'old french popular songs' kind of way), but that she also benefited from an active promotional campaign in the neighbouring countries of France.
I can't help but like some of the lyrics of this particular song. I never listened to M.M. but actually, as a kid, I liked Patricia Kaas's music/voice. :s

Maybe once we start showing interest in other cultures/countries, we French people are less inclined to resort to our own 'community', especially here within such a large melting pot.

:verily

Oh baby, oh baby
The night is hot outside your window

I smell your skin, I feel you breathing
don't let me go, not yet, not yet, not yet

Ohho..yeah, never in your wildest dreams

Here are a few things I came up with this past month. Given the way that I came up with it, I guess I could call them meals, since it was a process pretty much similar to cooking. There is a huge storeroom of thousands of ingredients (words), from which I randomly picked 86 of them for each meal, and while I was pondering upon these 86 ingredients (that I never used entirely), I tried to come up with an idea for the meal. As I slowly added my very own ingredients, I cooked. I repeated these steps simply three times for now, and here is what I came up with (it might ring a bell for the n°2, and partly for the n°1) :

Call me, say what you want, call it what you want,
Your distant heart begs no pardon when I am home alone,
A disco dreamer, or an easy rider, I can become,
Ask your heart, and tell me the way you like it;

We have everything, don’t you remember?
From solitude to secret galaxies, starlight and beyond,
Our forever begins without lies in our human light;

A funky future table showed me the ecstatic truth,
About how we speak, and the things we call ‘X’,
Told me to take a chance, devoid of tricks, at falling for you,
To let you come as you are and we would never miss a beat;

We have everything, don’t you remember?
From solitude to secret galaxies, starlight and beyond,
Our forever begins without lies in our human light;

This new fight calls for a rotation dance in our concrete streets,
To start harmonizing our unnecessary roughness,
To cross one more road, and reach an island where we will fly like birds,
Never too close to all we do, to all we are dreaming of;

Our forever begins from solitude, don’t you remember?
Without lies, you have everything,
Without lies,
I, everything.

The laughing man and his obsession, part of my past became,
Silenced in his own hall of shame,
‘Cause when his every word was carried by the red scorpion,
He hurt me more than my people;

On a perfect day, a girl’s intuition whispered to my heart:
“We live for love” she said, “and you need a change,”
“Someone real with dirty looks, dressed in stereo, to dry your tears.”
So I wrote as I had to, to make your car pass in cold blood;

My dear, my loser, truth and falsehood were blurred in your heaven,
If the ghosts of your utopia still sound alive, far away,
You are in a state of shock, shining the old light,
Of a senior living with a dim view of the world;

My dark desires are no more, as I say cheers to the meat and eat the beat,
Among those stargazers where no sunburn, no summer,
May ever disturb the crystalline green tempest of their champion sound;

I don’t want a lover, darling, for I am not going to love you.
Say, who are you?
Who are you to become my obsession out of nowhere?
So cruel, or insoluble, are two sides of the same thing?
Am I to hold out?
Wait for awhile that doubt calls for an ordinary world?
Am I to believe the blindfolded psychic?
The diplomat’s son who is watching all the ladies?
Did my first choice paved the way to a monotone bed,
Or will it all fall down to the fields of a second coming?

It’s so easy, so easy,
Let me trouble you this one time,
On the doorway, it’s so easy,
Troubling you another day…

This youth blood of mine takes vintage violence from anywhere,
These visions of mine trick these golden years,
From the boy toy to the man-child,
Into trusting that love is anywhere,
So, won’t you tell me?
Say, who are you?

It’s so easy, so easy,
Let me trouble you one more time,
On this same doorway, it’s so easy,
Troubling you another day…

Ain’t no soul home? God laughs! Makes me look at the moon,
And relax…
Let the night flicker, check out the roller winters,
Cross the dance floor under a shower of purple diamonds,
Then rock this soledad with the kinkiest army of lovers.
Am I making progress? Should I call for more tigers?
If all I want is you, if I do need you, if I actually am, in love with you…
Then what of you?

It was so easy, so easy,
To trouble you this whole time,
On the doorway, this silly doorway,
I now am…

The cook's lifelong and/or punctual feelings and experiences (that are not only related to myself, since a great deal of my life has been spent trying to see and feel things from others' perspectives) inevitably affects the result of its cooking. But I would like to stress the fact that I make a clear distinction between the fiction that my imagination can give birth to when I feel the need to express my feelings or thoughts, and what/who I try to understand and reach within their/our reality. I wish that this distinction will also be made by those who taste these meals, and more particularly by you, should you taste them.

Thank you for your attention.

I was just wondering how you choose them ? Have you some websites you are looking at or radio you listen to or just some random founds...

Merci bien pour la précision. :nod

Well, the majority of the songs that I am posting in this particular thread are mostly random founds, as they belong to a lifetime of gathered & shared music. But there do are some songs that are the results of my actual (since 3~4 years) personal taste for discovery. And those I partly found within the following blogs :

Danger! Danger! (http://www.dangerdanger.org/)
~ nothing new since last december though... ~

Purp & soul (http://purpsoul.com/blog/)

Fear of Tigers (http://www.fearoftigers.com/)

Too Many Sebastians (http://toomanysebastians.net/)

Tracasseur (http://www.tracasseur.com/)

Yet You're Fired (http://yetyourefired.blogspot.com/)

Valerie Collective (http://www.valeriecollective.com/)
~ really important for me this one, as it is the songs that a friend introduced to me coming from their collective that ignited my interest for the Electro-pop & Italo-Disco genres, which are my favourites nowadays. They promoted Kavinsky, Electric Youth, Anoraak, etc. ~

That's it for the blogs. Except, maybe, that I could add Mikkisays (http://mikkisays.net/) to the list. It's not really a blog per se, more of a sharing spot, but what a spot! There is quantity, quality, and variety. If you use an application like jdownloader, then you'll probably be interested in going there from time to time (some links expire quickly though, mostly those for the "big" artists).

Aside from these, I am quite active on Soundcloud (http://soundcloud.com/people/following) (link toward my list of followed artists). Perfect place when one has the will & the time to go on a quest for new music. :nod

There is a guy on youtube that I follow with great interest too : Neros77 (http://www.youtube.com/user/neros77). He creates marvelous video clips, while using tracks from some of the actual best 80's inspired synth music creator from soundcloud, imho. And I like to take a peek at his favourites once in a while, they are often a great source of unknown gems.

That sums it up I think. All the songs I post on this thread belong to my permanent playlist, which logically contains the songs that made the most vivid impression on me. So, among the ~18,000 or so songs (that I all love) that my external dd hosts, this playlist of ~600 songs is kinda the crème de la crème.

...

Voili voilou. :^_^

Yupyup, I can totally relate to that. There was (and will very soon be again) a period when I too had but very little time to spare for this passion, and it was really frustrating. Though I always was truly lucky that the friends life allowed me to encounter were all in love with music too, and different genres to boot. I owe them a lot, because if it was not for this kind of unmediated sharing, I'd still be pretty green, indubitably.

Teubier
March 18, 2012, 08:21 AM
Ahahahahah!!! This is nowhere near reading something in portuguese! :rofl

I'm staying in a flat that should grant me some time and good circumstances to do those kind of recording until the 29th (meaning that she'd have to take care of her part of the bargain quickly, because I won't even consider doing it if she does not), so it doesn't bother me, even if I don't know how to sing. I don't have any skill related to audio montage though, so it might prove a bit difficult to make up something neat. If you are okay with this idea yourself, of course.

goldb
March 18, 2012, 08:24 AM
I also thought it was going to be something portuguese but seems she's got her mind set on hearing us sing, I'm not quite up for it, but I should be fine to record it. But yes, let's hope she gets hers done very soon.

Teubier
March 18, 2012, 08:37 AM
Yeah, let's hope so. And let's also hope that she doesn't set her mind on something even harder until then, because this butterfly seems quite random too. Actually, the FF part of MH seems like a den for random people... we very well might be the only two consistent members around here... :e3

March 20, 2012, 05:58 PM

Very well done overall. Truth is, from the instant I heard John's Walk again here, I think that I upgraded my opinion of this movie unknowingly (at first), because until that particular point in the movie timeline, I felt a bit let down from time to time. I guess that it comes from the fact that the characters were a bit botched imho, in comparison to the high quality of the landscapes and photography/ambient soundtrack/FX, thus the contrast between those ~even a poorly done movie, if it's poor in every aspect, might appeal to me because it would be harmonious~ didn't allow me to fully immerse myself into the movie until J.W's track arrival. But from that point onwards, it was a really great movie imho. And, well, Liam Neeson never disappoints (even when directed by L.Besson). I love that actor.

Btw, thank you again for writing about it in the movie thread, since I watched it based on your (and Koen's) opinion(s). :gent

And the ending scene was epicly epic. :hee

Ah, the area is like a peninsula :nod. It looks very nice, I hope you get better weather soon :gent

How long was you flight btw?

Thank you verily. :gent It's bound to be quite a versatile weather here apparently.

Mmmm 3 hours and 45 minutes, with an hour long stop at Moscow to transfer between airplanes, then 9 hours and 20 minutes to reach Narita. Not that long, at least it was more bearable than both my first and second travels to japan, as the first was a straight flight to Narita for 13 hours, and the second was with a pointless stop at Berlin after an only 1 hour and 30 long flight, thus a still very long straight flight to Narita in the end. Nine hours is still a lot though, quite demanding on the back when you can't enjoy the vastness and quality of Business/First class seats.

Ah, for some reason I thought of the flight to Narita from the US :fail ...that is indeed a long haul. That doesn't seem TOO bad. What did you do to preoccupy yourself on the flight?

:blink Awesome stuff... mmmmm Ô_- what kind?

And nope, it was Aeroflot. Gotta love the russian joke for a white wine, some kind of fuzzy juice with no feeling of drinking alcohol whatsoever. But the first plane was an Air France flight, so I drank my share of (real) white wine then.

A lot of good recent movies and a lot of video games at your seat. (+ radio, TV etc) :arf
Food is also fine compared to the other companies.

Actually I read somewhere that Singapor Airlines is often awarded for its flight services.

In order to write a little about what I’m going though here, I’ll make a first pit stop for tonight. I brought/bought a Suntory Whisky that I put on the table tonight, before dinner (which usually starts at 06:00 pm). So, we ate, and then the big man of the family, Hiro-san, saw the bottle and (even though we ~and by ‘we’, I mean the wwoofers~ already drank a bit to taste it already), started to drink a bit of it. Then he came up with one, two, and then three bottles of Shochu. Then another one, and a bottle of Suntory whisky. Then two others bottles that I still don’t really know what they were about… but I showed them the power of a French drunkard, and drank from each and every one of those bottles! Ore wa tensai desu! At least when it comes to drinking… :sweatdrop

Obviously, as I am now, I love you all, and more! Especially Whip & Blue Mary of course… My my my, how this body of mine will look like when I’ll come back from Japan… I pity the foolish lady who’ll be willing to welcome my energy in a fulfilling dance of love, as she won’t be able to keep up. I’ll make you stronger my dear, even though should you doubt that you can become… *true precognition*

Edit : I fell feel like I have to remind you that I love you all, even sober. :nod But I think that I love this blatantly person a bit more when I'm drunk, though I still can't figure why... :derp

You know, you were awfully disheartening just now... who told you about pixels? I know what's what. I'm quite the pratical dude, if you remember your own words, so you can bet that:
1/ I don't 'fall' in love;
2/ I don't fall in love with pixels...
But yeah, I don't mention much, because it's not of anyone's business... until it becomes...

Ok that you fell for pixels, but how can you be so naive? T.T

Teubier
April 06, 2012, 08:30 AM
Who said anything about not wanting to get personal at any level? I want to myself, but I can't act upon presumptions only... when you're up against against a wall of uncertainty, all you can do is pray for a change of behaviour... I'm not the kind to enforce my ways, so in the end, I also depend on the other one's personality... and sometimes it gets really hard to create something meaningful... And I'm not naive, I simply give what we call in french "le bénéfice du doute', meaning, again, that I'm willing to let the other person show what she is/has to show before anything else. And if it looks to me like we are both heading in a weird/stubborn direction, then I don't insist. Anyway, I've made enough serious comments as it is, time for a useless (raw) vid from yesterday:

Not really, not here anyway. The last family I'll visit, in june, should be able to speak far more fluently. But here they are a bit limited. Crappy choice of order on my part... anyway, it does not matter for now, as one of the three woofers that are here with me for now is a lady from Mexico who can speak english fluently, and she's really nice to interact with. And there also is a nihonjin that can speak, and most importantly, understand, french, so I'm quite lucky at the end of the day. I'm not completely lost in translation as I could have actually been.

Anyway, time for me to hit the bed, if I want to be up to the task tomorrow. ¡Muchos besos a todos!

Hey teub, how's the trip coming along?

Teubier
April 10, 2012, 11:53 PM
Quite nicely, thank you Bob. :^_^ Tomorrow's my day off duty, so hopefully ~if the weather is not atrociously rainy like today~ I'll be able to go chill, and maybe swim, at the Enshu-nada Sea.

Testing a few new beers these days too, so that's great, though those come from the not so nearby convenience store, thus they are still pretty basic.

And I fingered the soil all morning to plant fresh leeks under the rain, so you can bet that I'm already exhausted at lunch break... the earth is so demanding! :faint Though that's all really interesting, as I'm accumulating some nice firsthand knowledge & actual know-how about agriculture, which should be somewhat of use to me a few years from now.

Also, meeting and actually interacting (well, clumsily when it comes to non-english speakers, so most of the nihonjin here -_-;, but still) with people from different part of the world is very nice, very enjoyable. We get somewhat of a foretaste here on MH, but from my viewpoint it is more interesting (and necessary) to be able to feel your interlocutor. On that note, it's a shame that your trip to Liege didn't coincide with mine to Luxembourg (as I came back from it the same day you went there), it would have been cool to meet you in person. :nod We could have ranted irl about how little trust we can put on Farfalla to stand by her own words. :nod Anyway, the new lady here is quite funny, lively, and pretty (in a woman-like manner, not girl-like, which suits my taste perfectly ^^), and also a bit irritating because of the way she speaks english/american as I wrote earlier, but that's endurable. And as I wrote earlier (in spanish) too, I'm enjoying the music discoveries that the mexican lady kindly bestowed upon me yesterday. :verily It sends me back to my spanish roots a tiny bit too, and I love it. :hee

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking about when I saw how rain poured today, Uk's way of weather. :nod And thanks. Apparently, according to the last news, they foresee something along the lines of mostly sunny for tomorrow, so yeah it should be nice, a good day for me to try to find french wine (Rosé if it's been imported around here) for the incoming day when I'll be 'cooking' them something (thinking about a mint/goat cheese omelette with a mixed salad if it's also a sunny day). :hee

Not uncommon maybe, but here french is quite uncommon especially since it's kinda the countryside. But I found one bottle (I mean french Rosé, not something from south american countries, y'know...) that doesn't seem too shabby, called Le Parisien. The name is a joke, but it's from the Gironde, Parempuyre exactly, so while it will not be the best kind of rosé for sure (Côtes-de-Provence), it should be nice.

Well yeah this kind of busy was good, since I spend ages barbequeueing and eating preparing the meats :tss
:hee Barbecues! I see pork chops marinades and brochettes! :tss

On another note, today was thoroughly sunny and an utterly awesome day. I'll post some pictures and maybe a vid or two, depending on how drank I am to avoid feeling silly as I post those vids.

It's pretty easy, I've posted some on youtube already. ^^ They are set to public viewing, so please be my guest (though from today's vids, there is only one where I speak english, and I might not be able to upload it tonight).

Edit : I won't be able to upload it tonight, so it's for tomorrow (in the morning or at lunch break, maybe).

Eleven years ! :blink If it's that much, it seems like it could mean that it wasn't really a choice in the first place, right? Like something imposed to the students by the Middle-High School (then College maybe) system within their cursus? It's really impressive anyway :verily, as french is a stupidly bothersome language to learn. :nod And I'm sure that you are too humble there.

Edit: C'est luxe clip....is an eye delight..omelet, sashemi, sushi, fish...even kit kat.....I can see you're having a good time :zomg...and enjoying the nice weather and the sea/ocean

:hee Indeed, I couldn't have hoped for an :heeer day. Well, the overall ratio of work/delight days is still a bit too high from my perspective, and most importantly, it's organised in a way that it turns out to be very difficult to share some real quality time with both the hosts and the co-woofers, as none of us have a day off in common, and the hosts do not not take any day off themselves. Crazy people! :arf

Ps: there is nothing to feel sorry about. Learning an additional language is beneficial for one's development. Besides, French is not a terrible. On the contrary, is the language of love :derp. Yet, it did not stick to my brains cos of the resentment I had for my French teacher...he was a creepy guy, who asked us once to clean up a graveyard :oh...of course I skipped the class of the crazy guy who adored Tristan Tzara :oh

I've been out of this thread too long, I missed your departure
Gomenmasai, Gomenmasai

From the vids and photos everything looks fine. In which part of Japan are you exactly ? And from you first video, it really seems like Japanese don't like beaches. It reminds me the one in shikoku which was full of concrete too, although there was a wonderful elevator music in the background that you don't seem to have.

I wonder if they read "les gouttes de dieu" (forgot the japanese name) in Japan, it is supposed to be a big hit there too.

And have you got some day off for the golden week, anything planned ?

Yupyup it is, overall it is grandiose. I'm currently in the Aichi prefecture, staying in Ehimacho to be precise.
That depends, regarding their seeming lack of interest for beaches. Because the Uchinada beach (near Kanazawa), back in 2009, was attended by a lot of soothingly wishful japanese at the time. The video was taken during a workday, and the spot where I landed at seemed, given the road leading to it and the really tiny parking area nearby, like a more or less unknown spot, quite wild. There were silhouettes of people chilling to the far east (left of the camera's field of vision). Are there pictures of the beach from Shikoku that you took, somewhere on the internet?
And elevator music? Sérieusly? Une plage hi-fi, ça c'est le l'luxe! :blink

I'm pretty sure that they do, though I can't guarantee it, but given the interest that they have for wine, especially around the big cities, there is no way it wouldn't earn some hearty welcome in Japan.

I'm not involved by the Golden Week in any way I believe, as I'm living a rural way of life these three months, and if my next two hosts are acting the same way as this one, than they won't take any day off either, and so won't I (except for the one-day 'holiday' each week). It kinda follows the idea of grape harvest in France,, if you catch my drift, what I am doing here, except that they regard free time and leisure in a very specific manner in Japan.

Damn, Mikawa Bay's beach isn't really beautiful at day, but at night, furthermore while running under a gleaming starry sky with the nearby mountains covered by the weaks inhabitants lights' reflections upon a slight haze, all that bathed in music...

Mmmmm :hee This young american lady plays the piano, and gracefully to boot. :hee It's dreamy, after a very rainy/windy running session, a hot shower, and with a green tea flavoured sake 酒 for a drink... :hee

Last thursday, for my day off, I unvoluntarily stumbled upon the same spot of beach as I did the previous thursday (this is not the anecdote yet, don't worry). I put all my stuff somewhere really easy to spot from afar (for me), then started looking for rocks to maintain my beach towel on the ground since it was quite windy. I left my stuff there for no more than 3 minutes, and when I came back, a box of high quality tako (octopus) flavoured chips that I bought and put on top of my stuff was nowhere to be found. There were only two more guys in the vicinity, and there was absolutely no way for them to snatch this (furthermore, it wouldn't make no sense at all). Then I looked a bit higher, on the big rocks aligned here right next to my stuff, and saw a kind of mortuary stele to the memory of a man (I don't recall his name, but his nickname was 'Chonen') who, most likely given what was written on the stele, died for his passion : surfing.
So, here it is, I was robbed of my nevertastedandeagertotryit tako flavoured food by the ghost of a surfer, who did not even care to respond to my plea, which was for him to at least show his ghostface and chat a bit with me, something totally normal given his behaviour, right? Japanese ghosts these days... :-_-

P.S. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what else it could be, and no other explanation came to my mind. It's the only one that makes some sense. :s

Oh! Now, she's going for some Joe Hisaishi! :zomg :hee
