I nominate Whitebeards death - If dying in standstill does not mean EPIC then I don't know. Oda with his narrator comments made sure that this scene is remembered in all manga.

I nominate Ace's death - He tried to protect his brother until the end. Even if he was killed in the battlefield he died smiling like we've seen on most of the D. I've got the feeling with his own death he made Luffy grow a lot.

I nominate Whitebeard's death.
He was a splendid and influencial man and his death was really epic. It was the only suted way for him to die.
With his death and his final words he opened new period in the Age of Piracy.:)

Whitebeard death The man lived and died a legend.

Whitebeard's death. 'nuff said. The way he died made the way Ace died seem like the death of a wuss. No offense to Ace, but it's true.

I nominate the presumed death of Mr 2./Bon Clay, or at least his "ending". Just because we need more diversity!

I would've nominated Bon-chan's death as well... If I was sure he was dead. But that hasn't been confirmed, and I just don't want him to be dead. Even though that last chapter of his was one of the best moments of the manga and it would really lose some its impact if he does turn up alive again, part of me really doesn't want him dead. He's one of my favorite characters, after all. And until he's confirmed dead, I'll stick with my Whitebeard nomination.

I nominate Bellamy's death. It was the first time that Oda let a really, really annoying charakter die. Quiet a relieve.

I nominate "Merry-Go" ... Almost crying for a boat ...

I find Whitebeard's death to overrated. For a highly hyped character who didn't really do much for us readers, he comes in, gives a long generic cliche speech and then dies standing up. Big whoop.
Ace's death is more suitable, he was rescued but then gives his life to protect Luffy. I find it more suitable then Whitebeard. But then again.
I fucking love the Going Merry moment. Where burned her and said their goodbyes, that's also my vote for this category then.
Followed by my second vote, Bon Clay's goodbye. It's still not sure wether or not he died, but I really loved that moment.

Bon Clay he became such a complex character, they did not show his death so i pray he is still alive and Oda just pulled a Pell.

Going with Ace's death as it meant more to the main character's growth than the manga as a whole. Plus the whole dispute between him and Akainu building up to his magma fisting and his talk to Luffy before his light faded was amazing. I remember crying as I read this the first time. Very emotional scene indeed.

Whitebeard's Death for sure. He died like the famous warrior monk Benkei, and that's just beyond reproach.
IF none of his grisly attitude, conviction or power didn't qualify it.. his death made the man more than a legend..

Merry Death was certainly the one which touched me the most. Whitebeard one was badass but that's all. Well that's hundredth chapter of Merry against a few chapters of Whitebeard, I guess it can't be compared from a reader point of view

I am nominating Dr Hilluk's death. His dying speech was really good and really this award could do with more variety considering Oda's death scenes are quite good.(Norland, Tom, the rumbar pirates, all these still have not been nominated yet)

This. I actually cried for a boat... Oda did so well personifying it that I couldn't help but feel for it. Though it could be because of SHP's reactions more than anything else.

WB's death, because it's the only important death aside from Ace's :darn, which was very bad. WB dies standing, and it was very good for that!

Roger´s death/execution. Everyone, especially the WG thought that Roger´s execution would scare all pirates around the world but that guy started a whole era with just a few words.

Truly, Jaguar's and Bon's made me the most sad, though we can not be sure about Bon-chan, still, it was something that was extremely emotional, it even made Buggy cry! Though I would go with Marry Go here, it was a bonding moment, the death had a lot of meaning attached to it and a death of an "object" was portrayed so strong due to it's SPIRIT!

WB
That man was something else. His death will remain forever in my memories .
Merry's death deserves also the 1st place but since i have to nominate between the 2 i choose WB though i also cried my eyes out for that boat :( RIP for both Merry and WB

Merry Go and many other flashback death's were rly sad. Including Ace's. However WB's death is just freaking baddass epic. I mean the most time I always read sad death's, but that was the first time I felt this awesome vibe. Damn!

Hehe, yeah there is a difference between thew death being sad and epic, and even a greater difference being tragic like Ace's. Marry's was sad, but the ship was reaching it's final days, WB's death as well, epic in that it was a needed death for the new generation and of course a badass pirate legend does not go down even in death, and Ace died young, protecting his little "brother", truly the most tragic one, there should be three different categories I suppose, sad death, tragic death and epic death.

Why isn't Roger on this list? :D

January 31, 2012, 03:10 PM
Maybe because Roger is not a very appealing character so far
Akainu
January 31, 2012, 08:30 PM
that's probably the underlying reason - or he was too obvious or omnipresent or whatever, in any case, no one nominated him ;D as far as I can tell

So yeah I nominate Dr Hiluluk. Dude deserves it.

I would have though Merry would do a bit better compare to Whitebeard (he almost twice her score). On the contrary Ace score is really small.
I must be to romantic, I found the way Ace die with the vivre card vanishing really more touching than Whitebeard badass death.
