So who else on here likes taking photos? I haven't been able to take any outside lately because of my ill health, but its something I used to like doing.

My present camera is a Canon PowerShot SX210 IS and I don't know how to use all of the settings on it yet.

These first photos are taken on two visits to Cuerden Hall Park.

Spoiler tags, please -_-;

Anyway, I used to take photos more or less half-proffesionally back like when I was 13... or maybe 14. In the end, I never went seriously down that road, and it just stayed a hobby.

I did take some good pictures back in the days, though :smugbunny

I'd like to see them, as long as they aren't HDR. HDR stands for 'horribly deformed representations', because it looks like someone's taken a perfectly good photo and let a child scribble all over it with a crayon lol.

Do you have any favourites out of the photos I posted?

I liked the two macro shots. The one with the tree has something as well. So does #4.

The pictures by the lake remind of a place in Warwickshire called Compton Verney (http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/13420907.jpg); it has a lake and trees surrounding similar to your photographs. I have a few eastern european friends who are really into photography and are always experimenting with different settings on their cameras, you should try to do the same too!

Thanks for sharing! ^_^

These were taken a bit further north than Warwickshire lol. And only one of by the pictures is taken of a lakeside, the other one's taken by the dragonfly pond.

Some people are actually surprised that I don't know a single thing about cameras themselves, lol.

I find the people who don't try or have next to no experience with camera take some the best pictures because they don't think about it too much. :hee

That's pure luck only.

Finding the right scenary, the right angle, ISO, focus, lighting, that's the kind of stuff you plan and don't just hope for it to appear randomly.

Wow alpha must say I'm quite impressed, you should have gone down that road. Really lately I've been thinking of "stealing" my mom's good camera and try to learn photography, you know I like to draw and all so I'd like to try other medias.

Haha, thanks for the compliment, but like I said, it was really more of a hobby than anything else. Ironically, I always wanted a DSLR camera, but all the pictures I ever took were made with a plain digital one. Photograpy is a great hobby, but I wouldn't take it as a job.

if you make the adjustments correctly it doesnt really look bad , actually just the opposite ,it looks more realistic
HDR cams usually give bad results but if you take normal shots and then emerge them with HDR softwares , you have better control over the effects and have better results

Pretty dead thread here but...
Does anyone have experience with Lightroom? How does it compare to your standard Photoshop?
I'm pretty noobish at PS anyway... but is LR more specific to photography in a way that it makes things easier for me? (editing of fine details aside, I guess PS should be more powerful in that aspect?)

From what I can tell, LR is more photography-specific in terms of editing software. It is part of Adobe and so it works well with PS. Not that I've used it, mind you. I mean, you can still do pretty good photo editing with just your standard PS, so LR would be for those with a keener eye for detail and professionals.

I found this interesting video while browsing earlier, which prompted me to revive this place:
