Well every night we give closeing announcements to tell any remaining customers in the store that we're closing. Well the guy that was asked to do it was screwing up repeatedly so I offered to do it. Well, I told her I was helping out the person who was asked to do it. She kept telling me that it's against company policy to try and force customers out of the store and if corporate had sent in "Secret Shoppers" she would have lost her job... Etc...

I get what you are saying. I experienced and will be reminded soon enough about the "don't have money or need people to enjoy your freedom" part, I guess I have been lucky since my last job ended there (don't need many/much too). The part about lacking the motivation/drive to do things (there is always something to do, no sane person can state otherwise), I can relate to as well, but that's the advantage of aging I think : understanding why, and finding how to fight this habit.
When the money issue goes out of the picture, I don't think the following issues stand their ground for very long.
