OK, I want to know how many people know about this manga and if you dont know about it here is a review of this manga. a brief summary taken from wikipedia.

RAVE MASTER

The story begins in the year 0015 when a force known as the "Dark Bring" (Shadow Stone in the English anime) threatened the world. The current Rave Master sliced it in half with his sword, mistakenly thinking that it was destroyed. The resulting huge explosion known as the "Overdrive" destroyed one-tenth of the world. The "Holy Bring" or "Rave" was separated and the parts flew to the four corners of the world.

50 years later, Haru Glory, a teenager living on the peaceful Garage Island, is passing his time fishing. He discovers a weird creature with a small white body, dot-like eyes, and a huge drill-like nose. He names it "Shabutaro" at first, until later bumping into Shiba, (the Rave Master who attempted to destroy the Dark Bring earlier), who saw the creature and called it "Plue". Shiba explains that Plue was actually his companion and also a Rave warrior.

Soon, Feber, a member of Demon Card ("Shadow Guard" in the English anime), an organization that is attempting use the Dark Bring to take over the world, finds Shiba and demands that he hand over the Rave. Shiba refuses and tries to retaliate by using the Rave's power. It fails and Shiba is shot by Feber's giant arm cannon. Shiba gives Haru the Rave and tells him to run away. Haru refuses and with Rave in his hand he punches the Demon Card member, causing an explosion. Shiba is shocked and decides Haru is actually the Rave Master's successor. Haru decides to search for the other pieces of Rave to defeat the Dark Bring which has scattered from the original stone for the past 50 years. Haru confronts many other warriors with Dark Bring and destroys them, collecting Rave Stones at the same time.

i have seen Rave Master on American TV. Twas, a show i tuned in every saturday. Now what i like about is the wierdness, uniqueness, comedy, action, and music (especially the american intro song for it , which was very nice.). I wouldn't mind reading the manga, it's just that when rave master stopped airing in american(been awhile), i kinda lost track of the anime so I wouldn't know where to start. :s

if you want to start reading rave it depends of what is the last thing that you remember but if you dont remember you can just start from the first volume so you can rememver those moments.

The anime goes from volume 1-12 of the manga and they did 51 episode from it.

It was a great idea as a project of hiro mashima and it is still going really further and far away from the manga.

the anime ends at the point were he just got 2 rave and haru met lucia for the first time (lucia was stronger than him) ...something that made me laught was when the author from this project apears at the end of this anime but you should see it. i will not tell you yet... hiro aoeasr like for 10 or less seconds

I'll be quite frank with my opinion. I read about 2-3 volumes myself before I threw it away.

The art is AVERAGE, and AVERAGE art in japanese manga simply sucks. The story doesn't have any unexpected turns. I love it how the author tries to make interesting turns and 'unexpected' encounters etc, which are very very easy to predict. For example the musica dude, anyone could guess from the first sight he was not the musica they were looking for in the first place, and shortly after it was easy to see he definately was the gramps grandson.
And a character who's looking for his/her memory? how lame is that. Might be good, but it was all set up in such an uninteresting way. And you know, I haven't even read it that far, but it's MORE THAN EASY to tell that the leader of whatsoever dark brings is his dad. If I'm actually wrong, wow, the author succeeded in surprising me for the first time. Seriously, no unexpected turns, sucky art, and easily predicted/uninteresting plot all three make it a worthless manga in my list.

But I guess thats my opinion. I guess about 10-12 year olds will love this, as they're not able to think so far ahead in general, so the turns will be unexpected, and even the lame action scenes might be interesting for them.

By any chance is the first 2 chapters of Volume 24 194 and 195? If it is, then thats the part I'm up to (and btw, its been on onemanga October 18, 2007, a whole damn month).

I really want to see the one where they fight that lion demon guy (but first I have to read the ones before it)

How come this series hasn't been entirely translated on the Internet? It's the predecessor of Fairy Tail, which is translated in hours compared to the time it takes for Rave manga to come out on book shelves.

Ahzzy, I can barely tolerate this post of yours. It really seems as if you only read the first few volumes and made some judgement. Yeah, I would say that the first few volumes aren't that great too. Besides, almost all mangas are boring with average artwork at the beginning. Take Bleach for example.

However, the later part of the series was really great, like around volume 16-25. I really like Mashima's art in around volume 18-19, one of my most favorite ever, but it degraded as the series continued. The Blue Gaurdian arc was not that great, but the arc with Sieg, Haru, and Ellie going back in time more than made up for it. It is one of my favorite series by far. You should not make judgement by just reading the first 3 volumes or so. You'd miss how fun the Soul Society Arc is in Bleach and thought that series like Reborn is just some stupid comedy (which I really like btw). Your comment just shows how naive it is to make quick judgements. Also, the leader of Demon Card is not Haru's dad, though Haru's dad is the co-founder of Demon Card.

For those who want the series to be scanlated, I have the copy-right volumes 1-35 in Thai (my mother tongue). I am willing to provide translations to English based on the Thai volumes, when I have some free time, that is.

ok it is freaking me out. Mashima-sensei re-use a group name for Fairy Tail? or don't tell me it connected to it.

I have been wanting to read Rave since i first watch the anime. i somehow watch the first few episode on and off untill Haru found out about his sword history, something like rave is the name based on a girl name or something like that. And then with the eagle warrior thing forgot his name, but it really got me there about his true human appeareance. Ok i think i am totally lost it, but the ending is like... now what? (back then i don't know about the anime was cancelled)

But after i read in here that the anime is only up to vol12, i think i really missed out a very interesting story plot here. Though the beginning of the story sound so simple and predicted but i believe Mashima had grown to be a very promising talent mangaka (read: Fairy Tail) throughout the years he draw Rave.

It just that... i cannot stand plue (in the anime) >.< which remind me, did the story explain what is Plue purposes and origins later? other then immune to magic thing (if my memory correct)

Meanwhile i guess i will look up the chapters like... now..!

Edit:
lol looks like it explain in the first chapter what is Plue purposes.

Edit2:
Yos, finally finished reading. It was long and full of detour, but i think the ending executed nicely. Not really drag or rush (unlike some other manga) Though i must admit the only part where i cried >.< is only at eternal vow chapter. And the most coolest of all is the ending of Levin 0077 omake manga. Sucessfully Nakajima-fied lol

Well actually i don't know it was him untill Haru and Elie got back to the present time and they look back, and realize who was the skeleton (now we know what happen to the pendant) i practically cried there >.<

I am re-watching Rave now. My husband keep saying the anime is not really good, and i keep saying because they axed it, the manga so much better, and i keep spoiling him spoiler lol and paused whenever the scenes are diff with manga, heck most of time are diff.

It kinda sad that it only end up with Symphonia's arc, most of the awesome parts never really get animated. I wonder if 1 day some studio house picks it up again >.<

Now hat FT become an anime, i am sure a lot of Rave fans kind of jelous don't you think. And for them who fans both of manga, will get nervous about the anime, will it last longer or will the studio house will axe the anime.

Like when he got the pendant and and sat down and they showed the next scene of him saying like "I'll protect you till the end" i was like. He's the skeleton guardian. That's just too sad.

I knew that Rave anime was never completed but that's nothing. that's like 10 episodes (exaggerating). Someone should pick it up. Started from the beginning cuz some of the art kinda sucks. I really wanna see like the anime version of the very end when Haru and Ellie (was about to say Lucy lol) come back to the Nakajima-fied Levin with their present.

I haven't really seen Rave anime so i can't say how bad it is. But hopefully they make FT anime good.

After becoming a fan of Fairy Tail, I decided to go back and read Mashima's earlier work.

I must say, though Rave has some shortcomings, it still fulfilled the basis for a great story. I was amazed how quickly I breezed through the story where emotions were understandable and powerful.

Unlike many popular and new-age mangas, Rave really knows how to create a fantasy world yet still hang onto the emotions which turn a manga from a collection of art into a real story.

There were moments in the manga that were a bit too cliche, and some parts did have too much time spent on them, if not being completely unnecessary. I felt the pacing could have been better, and earlier chapters were somewhat dull.

However, it had very special touches concerning most of the characters. Rave knew to focus on a few characters specifically and really make them worth looking out for rather than making it a mess of names no-one can remember. Yet even then the no names somehow shined, and before I knew it I was looking forward to reading the rest and found water in my eyes for some moments.

Anyway, just in general a shout out for this manga. Quite possibly an underrated gem when read through. I haven't been this excited about reading a manga through to the end since GTO.

so Rave was essentially the predecessor to Fairy Tail. Recently, Ive heard various online groups

call Rave a "sub-par Beta version of Fairy Tail." I've read hundreds of manga online, of various

genre and plot. But Rave stands out among them. While admitedley slow at the beginning, I felt

Rave asserted itself as a Manga that was serious in various aspects and maintained a level of

continuity, but also established its own personal brand of humor, something similar to Shaman

King. This humor paves the way for interesting

action and abilities that are completley original and very entertaining. The world they live in is

fascinating, and the plot never ceases to amaze me. The writer transitions beautifully from old

and new antagonists, adding only to the direness of the situation every time a new one is

introduced. This isnt Gamaran where random powerful oponents are introduced just to be

slaughtered, almost every villain is tied into a protagonists life, and affects the story in an in-depth

way (for the most part). In one case, a truly evil villain is defeated, survives, but makes

ammends internally and swears to start anew. Through this he re-connects with his once hated

brother, and even finds a possible love interest. Unfortunatly, he is killed by the second in

command of the organization he once served, along with the entire village he finally felt at peace

in. This brings me to my next point, where this manga isn't afraid to kill off popular

characters and protagonists. There is no constant resurection, and most of the time if someone

is dead they are dead (save for Let.). There are so many tear-jerker moments in this splendid

manga that i cannot even begin to create a list of all the times i bawled my eyes out. you truly

feel connected with these amazing and interesting characters, so much so that you WILL lose it

every time one dies.

The only

time this manga ever has a cliched moment is the final battle, which is essentially a no bs

showdown between the main antagonist and the protagonist (this is the final conclusion to the

near 296 issue manga). This showdown is done perfectly, and every hint of emotion is touched

upon and felt by the reader as he or she observes this breathtaking and flawless final battle. It is

truly an example of a final example done right, one i certainly missed in mangas like Yuyu

hakusho (even though it IS shown in the anime version.

Over all, im writing this as tribute to one of the greatest, in my opinion, manga's of all time. Good day to you all, and i hope you proceed to a website to read this life-changing manga.

good day.

I liked Rave Master. It was a good manga and I really see tons of characters from it in Fairy Tail and even some ideas.:)
The thing is that I liked it more from the beginning to the point, when the King confronted the main Hero and his father in the Tower, but then it wasn't as great as it was before, even though I also liked the plot and all, but it really went to some DBZ powerscales at some point.:)
I also didn't like how we got to know that King's son was actually alive and also his father, but their relationship were so messed up, that it was really imposible to understand, why they acted like this. Also I totally didn't get the reasoning behind Luccia's desire to destroy the World that wasn't true world.
Also I didn't like those asspulls as we see now in Fairy Tail as something like friendship and being able to believe in his own power and go a bit beyond his limits... the thing is that they didn't go a bit, but by a great margin beyond their limits, when they confronted Demon Lords.

The thing I really liked was the consept of that blond girl who was Lucy's prototype.:) It was quite an interesting thing that she wasn't actually an experiment, but was a real woman who lived that long.:) And poor Sieg. It was really a pity that he died as well as Shiba.

P.S. Overall I really liked Rave Master.:)

Can somebody tell me the differences (ehm... without spoilers if possible ^^) between the manga and anime?

Because I'd started reading the manga (just bought the first 4 volumes) after I saw the first two episodes of the anime and well... it was totally different. some elements are the same (first fight against Shuda, broken Sword etc.) but some are totally different (Garage Island/Hip Hop City, Elie?!)...

so will it be like that the whole anime?! aaaand... how much of the story covers the anime? I've seen somebody here saying it is around 12 manga volumes?

thank you very much for your answers! =)

In the anime some events are rearranged in the beginning but it tells the same story like the manga and it sticks closely to it.
The differences will not be in the whole anime, only in the beginning.
The anime goes up to chapter 95 of the manga (that's volume 12).
