Long no see, sonny!

Phew, guys! I know this one was running pretty late. That was partly due to the RAW being originally camshots, and not really all that useful for reviewing purposes, and Sunday morning I was trying to install a different virus protection program when all of a sudden I couldn't log in to my account, I couldn't get online, and do anything for two days! Fortunately, I fixed the darn machine just this morning. Hopefully that will be the end of my PC troubles for a while, though!

Thanks to Touch for finding the RAW (especially the MQ one!), yoniekai for his awesome scanlation, and Winterlion and Hisshouburakien for their terrific translations. Interestingly enough we seem to have had fewer Naruto translations here lately, so it would probably be a pretty good time for any aspiring translators to submit their own versions of the Naruto chapter if they want. Naruto's one of the easier mangas out there to translate, guys, so go ahead and give it a try.

Also a shout out to dimska (http://mangahelpers.com/forum/index.php?topic=13726.0) for doing a 338 review as well. Also, many thanks to Japflap (http://www.japflap.com) again for all their great HQ scanlations. They've been doing a fantastic job, and their work always makes me want to reread Naruto again, and helps me see the chapters in an entirely new light, too. Thanks!

That's all the credits. Let's go ahead with the review, shall we? Comment away if you wish, too.

* * * Gold Knight's Ten Comments on Naruto Chapter 338: If You Curse Someone......! * * *

Yeah, like, even your mask's ripped up, Kakashi! DAMN!

1. A Rare Situation...! When Yamato mentioned that he had never seen Kakashi so sorely beaten up before, I was reminded of when Jiraiya casually said that he had only been on the brink of death two times (http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/7868/narutov33chap291p099yp.png), once to Tsunade, and then recently, in a battle with Kyuubified Naruto. Imagine Jiraiya being in all sorts of battles - especially with Orochimaru - and never having to face death in the eye more than twice? Tough guy, right?

Now imagine Yamato and Kakashi working together on all sorts of dangerous ANBU missions, and this is the first time Yamato's ever seen Kakashi beaten up that much before? Whoa!

So, I wasn't surprised at all to see everybody approaching Kakuzu so cautiously.

http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/4530/021qk.jpg
Kakuzu wants to fight more "hearty" fellows, I'm guessing...

2. Does Kakuzu Know...? First thing I immediately wondered when Naruto came up front to challenge Kakuzu, was that whether the dangerous Akatsuki knew that it was the Kyuubi jinchuuriki before him or not. My guess is no. Well, not yet. Kakuzu seemed to be taking too much enjoyment out of the first impression the boy gave him - that of a worn-out Konoha youth - to even consider that it was possibly somebody with a bijuu trapped inside him.

But he'll probably realize who it is eventually - probably in the heat of the battle. Most likely, by detecting the Kyuubi essence within Naruto's eyes.

Remember Deidara once before warned Hidan to be careful of Uzumaki Naruto (http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/5827/ch332ukpage060qy.png) (who could forget that humorous page?), and although Kakuzu turned out to be his opponent instead of Hidan, I'm sure he will remember Deidara's words in an upcoming chapter when he comes to finally realize that this particular kid is NOT somebody to be taken lightly at all. Ahh, though, Naruto's being underestimated again, what else is new? Heh.

http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/5836/034fp.jpg
Look! It's the return of... SCOOBY-DOO! Whoops, wrong cartoon!

3. Evening Up the Odds... A Bit? I don't blame Kakashi for wanting to send reinforcements to Shikamaru's aid, considering Hidan isn't the type of the opponent one would want to face alone (usually!) So with that in mind, I did like that Kishimoto made the battle between all the Leaf nins and Kakuzu a bit less lopsided by sending Sai and Sakura off with Pakkun (who would know Shikamaru's scent, having worked with him before (http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/7668/naruto117071pl.jpg)).

Not to say that I thought Kakuzu didn't stand a chance against two jounin, four chuunin and Naruto, but I think I would felt more respect for him for going against them all than having any for the Konoha guys for ganging up on him.

Makes sense, also, that Kakashi would choose a long-range fighter and a medical nin to go after Shikamaru and Hidan. No need to think too much on Sakura, the reason is obvious - though if Hidan managed to get Shikamaru's blood and cursed him, I doubt healing would do much to help to save the shadow man's life.

Sai, on the other hand, would probably be far more useful. By being able to fight Hidan from afar with his drawing creations, Sai would avoid being hurt at all.

http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/301/041mp.jpg
A completely new Naruto, eh - he's doing the bunshin sign! How is that different? >.>

4. New Naruto? O RLY?! Well, Yamato better make good on his promise here, because we HAVE seen far too much of the same old same from Konoha's No. 1 Surprising Ninja.

I can already tell that Naruto is going to start off with his usual trademark move - the bunshin, perhaps even Mass Shadow Clones. Naruto's eyes turning Kyuubified here would seem to indicate that he's also drawing on a relatively large amount of chakra right now. Though it's been a long time since we've seen Naruto conjure up 1,000 clones for the purpose of a battle, so that'll probably be fun to see anyway.

But I do hope that we'll be seeing something new in conjunction with that move, something definitely other than a Rasengan.

One thing we did learn here is that Naruto hasn't completed his 'Ultimate Jutsu,' he's only halfway to the finish line. But apparently, Tsunade believed that he was already ready to help, regardless. Yamato's confidence probably helped her come to that decision.

Sidenote: Incidentally, this is a good time for me to point out that One Eyed Sharingan gave a nice answer to the time continuity discrepancy concerning Tsunade's deadline for Naruto's jutsu NOT being met and Team 7 being the reinforcements anyway, of which you might have heard me complain about about last week.

"About the 24 hours time limit Tsunade gave, well Tsunade said that she would send another team to back up team 10, but she never said anything about not allowing team 7 to back up team 10 even when the 24 hour has passed. But then why team 7 was the first to arrive?? The only thing i can think up is Yamato's ability, remember when he made Naruto, Sakura and Sai eat some wood-thingy (was it wood??) so that Yamato can track them down whenever they concentrate their chakra??"

Hey, makes perfect sense to me. Yamato could have given Kakashi a "wood tracker" (http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/6848/narutov34ch301p154ur.png) - giving Team 7 an advantage in being able to catch up quickly, and which would also explain why Sakura said Team 7 had such a connection with Team 10 with Kakashi (http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/4678/ch331ukpage166vm.png) (besides the obvious). The first back-up team that was sent out might have never found Shikamaru's team at all, prompting Tsunade to finally send Team 7 out as well later on. If that's the case, I would have no more complaints and probably would go back and rate Chapter 337 a little higher. I would definitely want Kishimoto to explain either way, though.

Looks like Hidan will just have to ask for forgiveness himself!

5. Gotcha! First off, let me just congratulate Glasskatana for noticing what I didn't last week - that Shikamaru had a shadow firmly wrapped around Hidan's upraised arm (http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/3697/ch337ukpage147yf.png). And being absolutely right in that Shikamaru would use it at the last minute to halt Hidan from striking with his wicked scythe.

And hey, is it just me, or has Shikamaru been getting all the "cool lines" lately? I loved it when he said matter-of-factly that he didn't need Hidan's messed-up god's forgiveness here. That's just like him, though. Sometimes I think Shikamaru has been his worst critic lately, always trying to improve himself so that he could be a better leader to others.

So he sure didn't need any crap from a hokey voodoo god.

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/4057/06a6am.jpg
Hidan, get prepared to be...

6. Aha, so that's WHY... Alright, that was an awesome strategy, I have to say, now that I've finally seen why Shikamaru prepared all these explosive tags beforehand.

I think that Shikamaru was also quite clearly faking that he was running out of chakra, too, because I doubt he would have been able to pull off such a myriad of shadow-stretching at the same time in order to pull all the hanging ropes towards Hidan, too.

http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9462/06b3nb.jpg
...PWNED!

Only thing that bothers me is WHY didn't Shikamaru just do this to start with?

Sure, I see that Shikamaru wanted to do some indirect damage to Kakuzu as well, but if he was going to risk that, he could have trapped Hidan again with his shadow while Hidan was about to pierce his heart, tested the jutsu to see if it had been indeed been Kakuzu that was affected by the curse jutsu and not him, THEN did the explosive tag deal right away.

Of course, if Shikamaru had done that, Kakashi may very well have been history by now.

But still, ya know. Shikamaru couldn't have known what was going on in the other battle, and this way he could have possibly done even more damage to Kakuzu. Too bad Hidan already broke the voodoo spell a while ago.

http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/8495/079ov.jpg
Watch that first step, Hidan - it's a doozy!

7. Don't Screw With the Nara! Heh, so we've been in the Nara's ancestral forest home all along, huh? I don't know how Shikamaru knew that Hidan and Kakuzu would decide to head that way, but I guess it sure helped his plan, didn't it. Guess that was why Shikamaru was faking being helpless - he wanted to bait Hidan into walking over to the exact spot that Shikamaru wanted him to stand on in order for the trap to be effective.

Note that the "Censor" sign on the ground that he threw the kunai at is the Nara symbol that we used to see on Shikamaru's arm (http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/7964/narutoch207p017ll.png) all the time, too.

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/6679/089ok.jpg
Yeah, the deer here are pretty mean and violent. Sorry, but Hidan's doomed!

Although Hidan's rant about coming back to haunt Shikamaru despite whatever fate his body would suffer was expected, I don't think Shikamaru would actually even need his clan to keep an eye on Hidan here. I mean, for starters, that hole looks pretty deep to me, and it's probably going to take Hidan an eternity just to gnaw his way back to the surface (assuming his head survives the explosion) - Shikamaru's grandchildren will probably have grandchildren by then! I sure would like to know where Hidan gets his immortality from, though...

Anyway, I liked that Kishimoto chose to let us see the Nara forest. It does give a little more substance to what his family normally does aside from shadow manipulation (that is, herding deer, hence Shika meaning "deer.")

http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/1823/07b6yg.jpg
So these were cigarettes and lighters after all...

8. What Goes Around Comes Around! Loved that Shikamaru basically blamed Hidan's impending doom on Hidan's own curses. And I don't think Shikamaru meant the voodoo jutsu either - I think he meant Hidan's blatant disrespect for his own victims. That was the one thing that really irked me about Hidan - he didn't treat Asuma with any respect, and even cursed him as he killed him.

Let's look at what Winterlion commented about that phrase:

Translator Note: Japanese saying. Lit is: If you curse a person, there are 2 holes. Meaning is: If you dig someone’s grave trying to kill them by curse, you dig your own grave as well.

Hence, the title of the chapter itself, "If You Curse Somebody..." seeks to prove a point, I think in that you're pretty much digging yourself a grave if you continue to show disrespect to others. That is, if you're NOT doing unto others as you would have them do unto you, don't be sorry when you get a similar treatment.

Maybe I'm looking into this too deeply, but I do feel like Hidan's getting what was coming to him and I'm glad about that.

http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/816/099hk.jpg
Great Caesar's Asuma's Ghost!

9. Hey There, Asuma! What's Up? Guess getting revenge wasn't too bad for Shikamaru, if Asuma's ghost appeared to congratulate him for his victory, heh. Of course, he was more avenging Asuma than seeking revenge, I think - maybe there's a slight difference in that Shikamaru wasn't really doing it for himself. Now Asuma's spirit can truly rest in peace, especially knowing he's got a worthy successor.

I'm a bit surprised though, that Kishimoto allowed a "ghost" to appear in the Naruto manga, even if Shikamaru might just be imagining things. Naruto had always seemed to me to be a fairly down-to-earth story... yes, despite the demons and all the powerful jutsus.

But in this case, though, I'll forgive him. It was a nice and touching scene, and a satisfying end to that particular battle.

http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/6193/106tu.jpg
Lookat the pretty fireworks!

10. Going Out With a Boom...! I never did really approve of Shikamaru's newly-developed smoking habit, but I have to admit that was a damn cool scene and a fitting end for Hidan to be done in by Asuma's student in such a flamboyant manner!

I'm sure all Asuma fans cheered at that and Shikamaru probably earned himself a few more fans just for doing that. Though I know it was a bit of a bittersweet ending for them knowing that Asuma probably won't come back now. Sorry, guys.

So is this the end of Hidan? I do think so. Time to move on to Kakuzu.

RATING: 5 of 5 - Yeah, about time. After a few sub-par chapters the last month, I'm happy to say this chapter delivered. For me, at least - I saw no flaws in this chapter and it was entertaining all the way through, though I still have some questions that I'd still like to see answered. But this chapter didn't throw at us any confusing questions, so we could just sit back and enjoy the fun. And the chapter definitely had one of the more memorable scenes in the series so far in Shikamaru getting the best of Hidan.

Predictions: I'm glad that we'll be focusing entirely on Naruto and Kakuzu now, that's the only thing the next chapter could be. I definitely don't want to see Hidan come back. Shikamaru had worked too hard to trap him like that and it would just be total BS to see Hidan come back again.

Credits: Thanks to Yoniekai, Hisshouburakien, Winterlion, and last but not least, Touch ^^ And all of the patient people on the community who not only had to put up with the long wait for the chapter but also a few days' wait for my own Comments as well ^^; I'll try to do the next one much faster.

I think Asuma just told everyone what the king represents, the will of fire that Sandaime was preaching about before he died fighting Orochimaru.

Hmm. So one could say that Shikamaru is the king that Asuma was trying to protect, because he saw in him his own successor to his Will of Fire? I guess I could see that.

Just a FYI guys, this is my own fault because I posted the Comments so damn late, but I can't really reply to anybody's predictions of the next chapter now because I just now spoiled myself by looking at the latest spoiler pic for 339, heh.

This is really funny GK as soon an you finish posting this the spoiler is already up for the upcoming chapter.

I give your review a 5 out of 5

Your reviews are always so cool and i feel like I'm reading an editorial for some weekly mangazine.

This chapter rocked though and I can see why you rated it so high. Thw worst part about this chapter though would have been the long wait !!

Thanks, deathshadow25 ^_^

Yeah, the long wait... well, at least there was a nice pay-off for our frustration.

Hidan died really quietly... Too quiet in my opinion but that'd make people hate him even more I assume.

But being immortal he shouldn't have died in a blast that looked weaker then the blast that his parnter Kazuku did right? And no matter the depth of the hole as long as he doesn't die I assume and ninja could retrieve his body. Even Naruto know how to dig underground (chuunin exam) So this defeat of Hidan doesn't seem complete but I'm guessing that no body besides me cares so he'll just stay dead like you suggest.

Thanks for this, GK! ^^ Good to see that this chap got your 5 out of 5. (Could it be that you were just eager for your Naruto chapter for the week? Lol)

Yep, good to see Shika looking badass as he flicked that cigarette onto the Exploding tags. Hopefully he'll give up smoking after this. (Or when this whole ideal is over.)

Anyways, thanks for the review. Keep it up! :kkthumbs

This was definitely one of the best chapters recently! I can't wait to translate the next one!!! :p :eyeroll

Hmm, you have a point there. The explosion really wasn't as large as I would have imagined all these tags wrapped around Hidan to cause. But perhaps it's just that they were all designed to be small explosives, the kind that probably would cause more minor than major injuries, because Shikamaru didn't want to set the forest on fire, after all. Together they did enough damage to rend Hidan's body apart and that was all Shikamaru really wanted, anyway.

I think it's a complete defeat, because Hidan's body parts probably are blown apart now, and his head probably isn't capable of doing any earth jutsus on its own.

I just thought of something, though, his ring is sure going to be hard to find - I'm sure Kishimoto will probably have Hidan's hand fly off somewhere to the distance where somebody like Zetsu can retrive it... and maybe even Hidan's head, assuming the Nara aren't strong enough to keep him at bay.

Thanks for this, GK! ^^ Good to see that this chap got your 5 out of 5. (Could it be that you were just eager for your Naruto chapter for the week? Lol)

Actually, the chapter was going to have to do a lot to impress me to get me to rate it 5 despite the hiatus, because I had been pretty disappointed with the last three chapters. But I liked it. Hopefully it keeps up.

Yep, good to see Shika looking badass as he flicked that cigarette onto the Exploding tags. Hopefully he'll give up smoking after this. (Or when this whole ideal is over.)

We'll see. It seems to me as Kishimoto likes the idea of Shikamaru smoking though, and I guess it does sort of suit his character now that I've seen him do it enough.

Anyways, thanks for the review. Keep it up! :kkthumbs

No prob and glad you like it ^^

Exactly my sentiments, and no incredible Rock Lee-like moves in order to fool Hidan either. This chapter was pure Shikamaru.

4. Ever since Naruto entered training with the Kyuubi's chakra, I wondered how there relationship was since he pretty much dismissed him earlier. I can only guess that Naruto doesn't need to see the Kyuubi to use his chakra anymore (unlike the first time), only to go to another stage. Or maybe Naruto's mind was weaker/desperate in those situations allowing for semi 'hallucinations'.

5. So that is what happened. This chapter came off as a really weird deux ex machina when I first read it with shadows coming out of nowhere from a weak Shika, Hidan trapped the next second, talk of his clan trapping Hidan (I thought the deer were spirits of his kin??? :eyeroll), and Asuma's 'ghost' to top things off. Makes a lot more sense now.

6. Good point. I guess Shika wanted to make sure Hidan didn't have anymore surprises up his sleeve, like another jutsu besides the voodoo one. Makes sense considering that was Shika's ultimate technique, and it would have gone to waste if Hidan had more than one trick.

9. I think Kishi messed up by not including more demons/monsters/ghosts in the story from the beginning. Always good to have lots of them around for meaningless battles, not to mention more jobs for Konoha. :smile-big

Oh, and checkout Linux. No need for nasty virus software, it's free, and pretty easy to learn. You can get a free live cd sent to you from ubuntu.com. :)

Yeah, this chapter rocked. I do have some thoughts. o.o h

I do kinda agree with some other posters here. kinda get the impression that Shikamaru isn't going to be continually smoking if he manages to avenge Asuma here--the impression I've been getting is it's a thing he's been doing to 'keep Asuma's spirit with him' long enough to see what he does. I'm pretty sure it's not a thread Asuma will let die, but for Shikamaru, smoking does mean something quite explicit now. Probably don't want to squander that on 'random scenes of coolness'

That said, I'm pretty sure Hidan's gone. That's just too cool of a way to go and too good for the story to let him twink his way out here. Besides. We all knew those tags were looking pretty ominous when Shikamaru took him there. I think if Shikamaru gets to run you to a second location of his choosing, you probably lose. XD (Also--he might have employed the earlier trick with the blood to throw Hidan off a little--kind of like you might do in a traditional shougi match, right? It's possible that the plan we saw was only one of many, many plans Shikamaru had to take Hidan down)

If he's removed from plot here, it does open up a lot of possibility for some more plot after the Akatsuki thing is resolved--it's probably safe to say that Hidan will never get out of this on his own. But like it's been stated, it's entirely probable for /another/ priest of Jashin to come fish him out.

Or Jashin himself.

While Jashin is worshipped as a god, he doesn't actually /need/ to be a literal god. And it'd make a lot more sense in the manga's long run if a 'god' was simply a really powerful ninja capable of granting these kinds of jutsu to random people. This would also explain why Hidan is such a poor ninja--he could have literally just been picked off the street and given these powers.

After all--Hidan does have a reported habit of speaking like a gangster, right? Being the newest member of Akatsuki behind Tobi--it'd also make some sense if his basically being a one trick pony (even if it is admittedly a very, very good trick)

Besides, in the history of manga, the 'least interesting' character in a supervillain organization has a tendancy of being a hint for a later plotline. Every Iwanbo needs their Gein. X) And currently, of all Akatsuki shown in action thus far, Hidan has the least 'depth'. Be an awful waste of ten hyperpowerful villains to have all ten literally lead nowhere after the plot is resolved.

Those were some great comments. For example, I think the wood-tracker thing was a good possibility. It was probably the best answer to why team 7 was chosen to go to the rescue of team 10.

First of all let me say beforehand that i did enjoyed your review as always, and even though it did change my mind a bit about the chapter, i still don't completely like it... (l0l, guess a lot of people are going to hate me now xP). Now on the subject...

1.-Agreed with you

3.-Agreed, plus, So Kakashi wasn't completely out of chakra after all, then that can't be taken as a reason for not making a single step to avoid in the last chapter.

4.- THIS made me hate the chapter xP, "Just watch" he says?, why don't we give Yamato some souvenirs and may be a coke so he can enjoy this as a movie?, besides, he is contradicting himself here, he said just a while ago "I've never seen you so beat up before senpai, he must me extremely powerful" (Yamato doesn't know that Kakashi was babysitting Chouji +Shikamaru + Ino for a while) so he must think Kakashi + 2 Chuunin < Kakuzu, yet he seems confident about Naruto, and speaks as if he is going to let him fight Kakuzu alone, which means, he thinks Naruto > Kakuzu > Kakashi + 2 Chuunin, in other words, he is saying that Naruto has surpassed by far Kage level now (Don't think Kakashi is too far from that level, as he was fighting two Akatsuki while babysitting, he must be close at least), in other words he can most likely take on almost anyone. (We're talking about a 5 hearted crazy semi-inmortal with hollows on his body, S-rank Criminal here after all...). Personally, i didn't like that... don't want to see Naruto that strong yet... i mean.. he is going to destroy the world at his 20 at this pace... (of course those are just Yamto's Thoughts, in all that turn out not to be true then i will just apology to kishi-sensei for that). And please don't get me wrong, its not like i hate Naruto as a Character or anything... is just that i like a lot this series... (Btw... nice thing we get to see kyuubi's eye again... i really like them xP).

(and.. yes.. a nice explanation as for why Team 7 is there)

~About Shikamaru vs Hidan Fight ~
It may have been well settled and everything, i may have liked the Asuma detail a lot, plus the cigarette dealing the final blow, however, i don't see it plausible for a mere Chuunin to take on a S-Rank immortal Ninja member of Akatsuki on his own, as we are talking about shikamaru here, i would tolerate him holding/annoying Hidan for a while, but not to kick his ass (not to mention win against/or maybe even kill Hidan), who maybe have been made as the slower, powerless, and maybe weakest Akatsuki member 'till now, but, still he won against the Niiby, he took out a lot of honorable monks, he was taking Asuma + 2 Jounin + 1 Chuunin on his own 'till a certain point, and now, Shikamaru beats the crap out of him without even getting a scratch (and, i do like Shikamaru as a character, and i don't feel anything special for Hidan at all xP), personally i don't see it as a good way to have Hidan taken out (and even if he is still alive, and appears again in the fight... i still will think of it as this... Shikamaru kicked his ass on his own xP).

Rating: 2.5/5 (It was 2 to begin with, the review made me change it, into 2.5 o.o).

Predictions: I predict... Naruto using Kabunshin, and kicking Kakuzu's ass for a while, Naruto will most likely destroy 1 or 2 Hearts of Kakuzu, and then Kakuzu will go on an even stronger version of him. Then a multiple Fight, Ino + Chouji + Naruto + Kakashi + Yamato Vs Kakuzu will begin, at the end Kakuzu will die, escape, or get arrested to interrogation, after having him kinda powerless. (Even if i don't want the events to turn out to be exactly as those... i see these coming). As for what i hope, i want to see a nice team work, Naruto + Yamato vs Kakuzu to take out some hearts while Ino heals Kakashi, Sakura and Sai arrive to Shikamaru, (also, as a kakashi-fan, i would like for him not to stay completely out of the fight 'till the end, it may be good to be out of it for some chapters but.. not for all the fight xP)

Well... those are my opinions xD. It seems this time i didn't agree a lot with you Gk :P

Am I the only one who thinks that it is not over for Hidan yet? It looks like Kishi is going to sacrifice Kakuzu to make Naruto's jutsu look all powerful and cool, then he can't take 2 akatsukis down at the same time (just not like Kishi) so perhaps he will survive somehow? Nara or not, Zetsu is always right behind. With his locating ability, finding and retrieving hidan will surely not be that much of a pain.

Oh and is it just me or:

I agree with you that taking out 2 akatsukis at once is a lot, but I think it's the other way around...

I would definitely want Kishimoto to explain either way, though.

that is a nice theory and a really good one but when i heared about team 7 as a back up i didnt suprised because if team 7 is back up kakashi will know what will coming and can think what can be done when support comes.. (as he did send one long range and one medical to back shika up)

there is also another reason, remember first part of naruto..naruto,kiba,shika and chouji was "naughty" boys of academy..they know each other well, good friends and also should know each others power/capabilities as well..besides ino-sakura thing..so team 7 and team 10 are naturally good when it comes to communication, right??

I don't think I even have anything to add. I felt a little pride in the fact that that shadow arm was indeed important. I liked this chapter, probably about a 4.5 for me. I have to say I am disappointed by how badly the lighter and cigarrettes were drawn a couple chapters back when they fell out of Shikamaru's pouch. I also have to say, the possible lung cancer Shikamaru may encounter is totally worth it for how he was able to finish off Hidan. This is the best poetic justice Kishi has ever done imo.

I'm also a little confused as to how hitting that symbol made the earth crumble below Hidan. Oh well, that's easy enough to accept.

Wow, wow, wow. so much to say... how do I organize my thoughts????
maybe I don't. You will have to forgive me, this might get rather chaotic, as you will be reading impressions in about the same sequense as they pop into my mind.

first things first,

Oh and is it just me or:

http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/4381/shikamaru2fm.gifhttp://img156.imageshack.us/img156/513/neo5fb.jpg

And nope, it's not a joke >_> I just couldn't think of anything else when I saw that hand. Guess Kishi is a big fan of The Matrix, eh?

I do not think there needs to be a connection to matrix because of the outstreached palm. It is what I would consider as one of the natural reflexescommon to human beings anywhere. think about it if you suddenly want to motion for somthing or someone to stop what would you most likely do? thats all i wanted to say about that.

Now to the actuall chapter.
I just noticed something while going over the images of this your 10 comment section that might clear up one of the few questions that did come up in this chapter, and one that has been discussed in dimska's review. The question being, How and when did shikamaru dig that huge ass hole?
Well I still do not have an irrefutable answer as to when though i do have a few thoughts on the issue and if you are interested you are welcome to head over to dimska's thread and read up on it. Anyway, I just noticed that about two or so feet into the oppening of the hole there seem to bee studs sticking into the walls of the hole alond the entire circumferance of the hole.

http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i121/gazember/comment.jpg
Watch that first step, Hidan - it's a doozy!
By the way this might also answer the question as to how hiting the simbol made the earth crumble. So I saw these studs and I thought to myself maybe those where exploding tags. that would imply that skika did not have to dig the entire hole only bary the exploding tags deep enough and set the trigger for it. then I thought some more and i came to the idea that that is stupid and impractical. No, the most likely explanation is this: we are on the Nara's grounds right? I would assume that this forrest would be their Hunting Grounds. you begining to see it yet? in all likely hood this was just one of many dear (or insert any other large animal of your fancy here) traps that the Nara clan regularly uses. My theory would be that the clan has many of these in the forest and they have trigger point marked that they would know how to activate to quickly trapp a moose or bear or crazy cult following spineless sensei killing loudmouth one-trick-pony bijuu snatching newcomer S-ranked criminal missing ninja from the mysterious "hidden village of crackhead fanatics" who had it coming to him. Those studs in that case would be the visible parts of the trap mechanisms that where installed underground. Well what do you think?

I am just glad shikamaru was able to redeem himself. Its not like i ever lost faith in him but many people on the forums where starting to talk bad about him saying he is not even that smart and he keeps messing up. I am hoping this chapter is proof that he had everything planned and was just faking it until now and that he still has his stuff together.

About the smoking, I think I am right with you on this one gold knight, I will not start an uprising if he cntinues doing it even though i still do not aprove of it wholeheartedly. But that ending was classic, it had to be done. Now all I would like to know is what will the others do when they get shikamaru? I recomend they all trun right arround and head back to where the battle is raging who knows when someone might need Sakura's skills and even if Shika's chakra reserves are all depleted now, to wich there is no undeniable evidece so far though it is more thatn likely, his brain is still fine and he can always cook up strategies to support his friends in the fight, also unlikely but that is the way I would do things anyway.

Now the only one left is Kakuzu and though he is far from finished, he is not looking too Hot either especially if it turns into an eight vs. one (assuming that all eight actually do something). And I don't think he knows that naruto is "the one" I do beleive that he will find out real fast though and when he does we should see an instant change in him.

As to wether he[naruto] is being overestimated by Tenzou/yamato, I I would say the answer is yes and no. Yes it is totally unrealistic to asume that Naruto should be able to handle kakuzu on his own after witnessing the evidence at hand and at the same time Naruto is the main carachter of the series so he suffers from the "superman syndrome" a comon side effect of overuse of plot no jutsu. And for the record I do not beleive that we will really see anything new from naruto in the way that most people want to. he is not going to ditch Kage Bunshin and Rasengan ever, forget about it. there is a very slim chance that he might ad a third and maybe in the very distant future even a fourth skill to his repertoire. what we can expect is all kinds of exotic variations upgrades and derivatives of his basic skills but don't count on enything new. And don't hate him for sticking to what he knows best either.

What else was ther for me to touch on??? well I could say that i really liked, and for that matter did not recognize at first, shikas shadow summoning jutsu. that is a neat trick I would say, and yes he did definately have al the best lines in this chapter. ok I am now satisfied by shika's prformance and I have had my fill of his greatness. Now lets quickly move on to a new arc where Shino or Hinata gets to kick ass.

Thats mostly it from me. If I may just add that your Comments are one of the best reasons to be reading Naruto. Thank you so much for doing what you do. And do not ever make the mistake of feeling that you owe us something and that you have to deliver on a deadline. If anything we owe you and you should be able to hire underlings to do the dirty work for you for free. You know what just don't listen to mee anymore, I am begining to make less and less sense as I go on.

This probably will be my last reply here, but thanks all for commenting. ^^ Lookin' forward to 339.

That'll be an interesting story point that I'm sure Kishimoto will expand more on later on when the time's better for it... the relationship between Naruto and the Kyuubi probably will be pretty strained so that might mean Naruto won't be able to call on it for help again.

But right now, I'm glad that Naruto is trying to be independent and survive without it.

Heh... that was what I initially thought too, that the deer were spirits of the kin, that'd be funny. But I do have to wonder how Shikamaru was so confident that his clan could keep Hidan trapped. Must be Nara going through all the time or hidden elsewhere in the forest, they just have to be informed, I think.

6. Good point. I guess Shika wanted to make sure Hidan didn't have anymore surprises up his sleeve, like another jutsu besides the voodoo one. Makes sense considering that was Shika's ultimate technique, and it would have gone to waste if Hidan had more than one trick.

True.

9. I think Kishi messed up by not including more demons/monsters/ghosts in the story from the beginning. Always good to have lots of them around for meaningless battles, not to mention more jobs for Konoha. :smile-big

I did always want to see more of the bijuu. But the way the story has been written so far had the ninjas of this world more concerned with dealing with ninjas from other countries, and I'm satisfied with that. If I wanted monsters I'd probably read Berserk.

Oh, and checkout Linux. No need for nasty virus software, it's free, and pretty easy to learn. You can get a free live cd sent to you from ubuntu.com. :)

I actually did change to a free virus protection program. But I'll make a note for Linux in case it doesn't pan out, thanks :)

I tend to agree with you there actually. Well said.

That's an interesting theory on Jashin, Strangehat... and I would like to know more about how Hidan got his immortality and powers. But if Jashin was an actual powerful ninja who bestowed powers on others much like Orochimaru does, wouldn't he have been recruited by the Akatsuki instead of Hidan? Heh, wouldn't it be funny if Jashin turned out to be Orochimaru...

But I don't know if Kishimoto always uses all of his "hints" that he's put out there in his series. I mean, Zabuza hinted at a larger organization of assassin-nins from the Mist potentially being more involved in the story somewhere down the line, and while we did get Kisame, it was a whole different organization that he was involved with which we got.

Those were some great comments. For example, I think the wood-tracker thing was a good possibility. It was probably the best answer to why team 7 was chosen to go to the rescue of team 10.

Thanks, I can't take credit for that one at all though. That was One Eyed Sharingan's last post in the last Comments, which I thought made the best explanation I've heard for why they might be there instead of some other backup team.

I didn't think it got much attention so decided to highlight it up there.

Yeah, that too. Thanks for pointing that out.

Well, Naruto's jutsu (won't reveal it, but saw the spoilers and they seem to confirm this) might have been powerful enough that the others needed to stay back as to not get hurt. That was the impression I got.

You seem to be kind of caught up in the whole ranking thing though.. just 'cause Shikamaru is still a chuunin doesn't mean he doesn't have jounin-level abilites, and we all know he's certainly got a better brain than most jounins out there. And Shikamaru did have to go into the battle with a specific plan, and a lot of help from Kakashi beforehand.

Hell, I gotta say, from what I've seen so far, I don't even think Hidan would have made it as a chuunin without his voodoo jutsu. He's a S-ranked criminal because he obviously killed a lot of people with that jutsu, but he's an one-trick pony. A dangerous one-trick pony, but still a one-trick pony. The only reason I think the Akatsuki accepted him was because of his immortality.

Rating: 2.5/5 (It was 2 to begin with, the review made me change it, into 2.5 o.o).

Damn, I'm good >.>

I think Kakuzu will escape in the end, actually.

Well... those are my opinions xD. It seems this time i didn't agree a lot with you Gk :P

Nobody said you had to :) You had a lot of good reasons for why you disliked the chapter.

Am I the only one who thinks that it is not over for Hidan yet? Nah, you're not the only one who believes it's not over for Hidan yet. But I gotta say, if Hidan comes back, it's just going to slow down the plot even more for me, I think.

Oh and is it just me or:

ROFL. Well, I can see Shikamaru being Neo... at least it wasn't a DBZ scene you compared it to.

That's a fun point. Course. Hidan /did/ sass the Leader a few issues back. That can't be good for his continued longevity. And if Kakuzu bites it, we have no assurances that there'll be anybody around who could actually put Hidan back together.... again. T_T

Yeah, that could be a possibility, I said as much earlier in this post... heh, guess I'm not the only one thinking of that.

I agree with you that taking out 2 akatsukis at once is a lot, but I think it's the other way around... On the other hand, Zetsu might tease Hidan and then leave him into the hole. Sure wouldn't find him useful anymore.

But Naruto defeating Kakuzu? I don't think so, I don't think he's already at that level, ok so maybe he's close but I don't think he's totaly there yet...

I agree, but hopefully at least Naruto can take out at least one of the hearts by surprise.

I don't think it was ever really set in stone that Naruto was actually "friends" with Kiba, Chouji, and Shikamaru - they knew each other from their early days in the Academy, but beyond that I think they were more like just occasional playmates. Not to mention that Naruto usually felt ignored and left alone as a kid and that made his character a lot more sympathetic in the beginning, I'd think it would be going against the story if he had been revealed to be close friends with these boys all along.

I don't think Tsunade really had any relationship in mind between Team 10 and Team 7 beyond the Kakashi factor. PERHAPS also the fact that Naruto once worked under Shikamaru's command.

anyway thanx for the comments gk....

I'm also a little confused as to how hitting that symbol made the earth crumble below Hidan. Oh well, that's easy enough to accept.

Eh, I see it as being similar to the "traps" the Akatsuki set around their cave that forced Team Gai into fighting their clones.

That's as good an explanation as any I can think of for that hole. I assumed, though, that it was something Shikamaru or the Nara had prepared for such a situation even before they even heard of somebody like Hidan. You know, I'm sure they've got tripwires and traps everywhere in that forest in order to protect it against an invasion. They're ninjas, after all. And in order to protect the deer, these traps and tripwires might only be triggered when the Nara actually want them to be, hence the symbols.

I just felt like Kishimoto was writing Shikamaru a bit out of character and letting him rely on luck and taijutsu too much, but I never lost any respect for him.

Yeah, it's obvious Kishimoto did Shikamaru's smoking just for that scene. Hell, it was probably why he started.

Hmm.. I tend to think Kakuzu's battle will be over either way before Shikamaru, Sai, and Sakura arrive back in time to help at all. Battles between shinobi probably go by pretty fast... once the talking stops that is, heh.

I don't think he will ditch Kage Bunshin or Rasengan either, but I would like to see him develop at least two other skills just for variety. Especially now that he's gotten the hang of wind manipulation, and there's always that little skill Yondaime had that Naruto could have inherited in his genes...

Just the fact that Naruto has decided to stop relying on the Kyuubi to save his life, means that Naruto recognized the need to have stronger attacks of his own. I'm hoping there WILL be a little development of ability that goes with that. Besides improving what he's already got.

Heh, gotta agree there, I've seen all I wanted from Shikamaru for the foreseeable future, even though he's one of my favorite characters. I think he's the best developed character in the entire series even before Part 2 started, and it's a little crazy, actually, that Kishimoto decided to develop him even further in Part 2. It's probably to prepare him for an extremely important leadership role sometimes in the future, so I can understand that, but I agree with you, it's definitely time to move on to other characters.

It goes both ways... I do these Comments for fun, and I'm glad to be able to talk with various people about Naruto, especially you guys ^^[br]Posted on: January 25, 2007, 02:27:53 AM_________________________________________________* * *

Well... there's been all sorts of delays today. In the end I think it was for the best because I got some nice images for my next Comments courtesy of Fnuck and Aviv, but now I gotta do it tomorrow. Promise it'll be out then though.
