Tell me about it. It's impossible for me to scan the Avenue at the moment due to NF's slowness, because I'm using a dial up connection. So for now, NF will have to do without me, until it gets a little faster.

Let me be the first to say Adobe customer service, in other words blows balls. I been on hold for like 20 minutes, and then they tell me that the service can't be reached until tommorow.

God damnit I need to activate my damn shit.

Well on better news, winter break is only a week more to go, god I have sacraficed so much for the last 2 month's of class, I gave up pretty much all forum life and any on-line life at all. Well as you can tell because I'm going on and on, that I am rather enjoyed about this.

I will most likely get to work on my forum, read up on my forums. I also have plans of doing a nice free sig set about 21 in all and get rid of them, of course with customers I'll be working my ass off for some extra cash. Then it's CAP Vs SNK tournaments.

I have a bad news ...
In france, the government is going to vote on a law against "freewares" on the night of the 22nd December.
If it is approved, we won't be able to download any fansub or anything, or we'll be considerer hackers or anything else ... And it does not only implies manga, but EVERY freeware ! Encrypting too, of course ! Many french sites are going to close...
Yes, it's astonishing, but it's a reality !
Help us by voting ! http://eucd.info/index.php?English-readers
Or i'm really going to have a bad holiday :(

Leen
December 18, 2005, 05:13 AM
I dont think it's hijacked too. NF just need some blood transfusion now. Apparently, the leeches have come in a great amount and suck up all the NF's blood. Dont worry, NF is still in the ICU waiting for the right donor to step up and donate the much needed blood. Once the blood transfusion is complete, NF will be moved to a normal ward to recuperate for a few good hours and eat some eggs to restore back the blood. After that, NF will be as good as new and will be discharged from the hospital again. :woo :woo

So, the leeches will be killed then?! O_o

Leen
December 18, 2005, 05:20 AM
There are several ways to prevent leeches from sucking NF's blood again.

1. Wear thick clothes as protection. If the clothes are too thick for the leeches to suck up the blood, NF is safe.

2. Cut down an arm or a leg of NF and feed it to the leeches. That way, leeches' attention will be diverted into the chopped arm or leg and suck at that limb instead of the main body but the main body will still be able to move.

3. Get some sulphur and sodium chloride and put them on all the leeches. That will remove the leeches from the body temporarily but once there's no more sulphur or sodium chloride left, leeches will come back again. So we need to make sure that we have plentiful of anti-leeches chemicals in our store room.

I'll post more if I can think of them.

Hey, there's a thread called "NF forums got hacked" where njt says some incomprehensible to me things, since after all I don't know what happened! Can someone tell me or is the matter a taboo? I see njt has disabled replying in that thread so I couldn't ask there :(

Gold Knight
December 22, 2005, 12:49 PM
Well, there was a hacker, who I won't address by name anymore, who managed to bypass all the various protections that NF had - and redirected it to a different forum called Maddox, apparently to cause trouble.  NF wasn't the only forum affected, as the forum at animesuki.com, which shared the same server, was also similarly hacked and redirected.

It took three days for NF to be fixed, but mbXX, the guy who hosts our server, wanted to take the time to figure out a better security system and to ensure that it wouldn't happen again.  So it took a week for things to return back to normal.

The reason NJT didn't want a thread about it to go any further here was because many people were using it as a platform to throw out curses at the hacker - and we just didn't want any kind of bashing going on here.  It encouraged a kind of spamming frenzy that was more of a negative nature.

...and that being said, I've deleted that thread.  It's in the past now. ^_^

So many many Naruto videogames... I hope one is released on PS2 in Europe... Wish I had all consoles, all games and access to The End of Time from Chrono Trigger, the place where time does not go by. That'd be the only way 'cause now I have neither time nor money 8X My parents might buy me PS3 someday... Well, if I had a job I'd never pass a single class (I'm not a good student) and I'd spend my money on things that would make me study even less! ii) I have no Naruto games.

iii) I'm making no money, yet more games are being published all the time (not to mention new consoles)
iv) I got World of Warcraft which has a monthly fee, I'm a subscriber in 2 magazines (one monthly the other is pulished every 2 months), I might be starting Ninjitsu lessons next month, I'll be getting DSL next month... The less money I have the more I hate it.

I like cats. But i think my nose is a bit sensitive to them.

Anax
January 10, 2006, 05:32 PM
@GK --> I differ a lot from other Greek people and yet I'm still Greek in many ways. My Greek friends say I'm weird but an overall good guy, those who don't like me say I'm a wacko ("Poor people are wackos, rich people are eccentric"). Cats are, I guess, one of my obsessions that make me weird to some. For the record most Greek males (I say "males" becuase women refer to us as pigs, donkeys etc. [j/k]) I know don't like cats, in fact they try to kick 'em when they see them, which kinda makes me mad...

@Nytrogyn --> My mom has the same problem... It's one of the reason that I wouldn't get a cat after mine died, even if I wanted to.

@Eileen --> Let's see... why?

I) I've always lived near cats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat)
II) Tabbies are like bonzai versions of tigers
III) They are so agile and so "classy"
IV) They can be pretty twisted in nature... have you seen a cat torture a mouse or other small animal?
V) They have beautiful eyes
VI) They assume all sorts of postures that make them so adorable :love
VII) They are so clean and...
VIII) Watching them clean themselves is so pleasing
IX) Different cats like different styles of play, yet they all are so much fun to play with
X) In Egypt they were supposed to be avatars of Bast (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bast_%28goddess%29) and Egypt (along with Japan and China) has always been among my loves :tem
XI) Cat faces are so adorable that I like taking pics of them and also use them as avatars (like this one I'm using now, found in Wikipedia and edit by Eileen :hug )
XII) Cats are as clean as their food since they lick themselves, and also are highly independant
XIII) Cats are my weak point... I can't resists them and when walking home with friends, whenever we see a cat they all say in tandem: "Ok, goodbye Anax, we'll come pick you up from here tomorrow =) "
XIV) Ultimately none of the above reasons stand out individually... I'm just trying to think of logical reasons, but none really come to mind... I just sense the cats around me and my heartbeat changes when I look at them... It's a mystery I care not explain rather accept. In fact I feel glad that there is a thing in the world so easy to find that makes me so happy to simply look at :tem

Sadly, a few days before leaving Kavala for the Holidays a kitty I was playing with tried to cross the road and got run over by a teenager with a girl in the car, a poser who was running on a road 6 feet wide, with a zebra crossing that didn't have a traffic light (i.e. people pass whenever they want) plus there was a crossroad there... It seemed like the cars wheels broke the kitty's ribs and squished its lungs... it took well over a minute for the kitty to stop shaking. I just sat there feeling worthless for being unable to do anything, silently cursing the poser who had to drive so fast in such a road...

@Martin --> It's a movie with actors and voice overs for the animals. The main character is a dog by the name Chance, voiced by Michael J. Fox (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000150/) and the loveable cat, Sassy, is voiced by Sally Field (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000398/)

Miso you are both right and wrong, although individuals differ greatly there are some basic character traits that can be even called "national traits". For example Greeks cuss by calling the Gods names! Also, they generally enjoy good food with good company and a glass of wine :D They are generally outgoing and uni students are known to spend even all day at a café drinking Nes Café Frappé... BMW partners with Sauber this year and Williams is left with Cosworth engine. I wonder where will these two teams be in this season. Tyres changing is allowed again by FIA and Honda seems to be dominating the recent test in Bahrain. Rose Brawn said Ferrari 248 F1 is fragile. Mercedes have their cars painted orange this year. :s

Perhaps they'll find an alternative energy for our cars so we don't have to live without them. There are already hydrogen engines (? dunno what it's called in English).

And on a site note: now that we talk about cars. My car broke on Friday. I was on my way home from library where I did some research for my domestic work and then it began to make weird chugging sounds. Fortunately the repair shop/garage was on the way so I left it there. I really hope it's not so heavily damaged that you can't repair it anymore. After all it's the 2nd car I have in 3 years, I don't want to make 3 cars in 3 years out of it. :darn

Dont think too hard on that one. Even the uber rich oil company execs know that our supply of fossil fuels will quickly dwindle. The conservationists give it to 2040 max. But even the petro hogs give it a 2060 deadline. Thats 54 years and counting till were at ZERO oil, gas, etc. Which means anything that uses oil, besides cars (basically half of every product in the world) will be impossible to make. And if you think the years seem rather close, google how many TRILLIONS (yes trillions) of gallons of gas the world uses every year. Honestly were not only in danger of the emissions these fuel powered cars produce, but also of running OUT of oil in general. There. Thats the outlook for your grandchildren :iik

That is what their called in English. And theirs only one line of possibly commercially viable, completely hydrogen cars in their prototype stages right now and its called the Toyota FINE line of Hydrogen cars. Im actually hoping they succeed in making these fully possible as I would like to own a car that HELPS Nature instead of destroys it.

The only reason Hydrogen and Hybrid cars are expensive is because of giant oil companies. If a non gas powered car was cheaper and more affordable than a current day regular automobile then they would be selling at a ridiculous rate. Already we see this happening with hybrid cars which have waiting lists (like the Prius) that the companies cant even keep production up with. If they were cheaper it would get to the point where people wouldnt be purchasing gasoline, thus possibly bankrupting one of the, if not THE most lucrative business in the world. In the end its all about greed.
And yes, deforesting, illegal hunting, and excessive use of non-renewable reources are also major worldly problems, but considering the few people out there trying to prevent these things I personally believe that we should tackle one major problem at a time with every possible helping hand.

And that's your lesson for the day, kids.... if you're going out, try to car pool. =O

I wouldn't mind if cars went out of existence though. We have so many traffic accidents and things like that - and the more people we have living in this world, cars become pretty useless for getting anywhere fast anyway. Sometimes I can actually walk to a place faster than I can drive to it, at Knoxville. If we were restricted to only using trains and buses and things like that, at least in the cities, I don't think I would mind. I guess I'm just not a fan of cars, and the soon we're rid of them, the sooner we'll all be better off.

Your officially, in my book, super cool, :thumbs. Thats definately how I feel. Ive actually had various opportunities to purchase a car but ive found that the 30 minute difference to get from one place to ther other with public transportation as well as the insanely reduced costs makes a car purchase worthless right out of the dealership. Add emissions, plus resource depravation and uve got the most negatives ever for a vehicle. I live in the worst place for traffic, Miami, Florida. This place is HELL on weekday mornings and during rush hour. I once sat in my parents car for about 3 hours in one avenue, and we only got as far as about 4 miles. I never ask them for rides anywhere anymore because not only do they arrive late for work, but so do I. And we leave an hour earlier than most people do too. The metro rail train on the other hand is incredible. Somehow, even though its definately an old train system, I can get from one side of the county to the other in about 30 minutes. Thats about 40 to 50 miles. I think everything but travel that requires crossing bodies of water should be restricted to trains. And hey, lets follow the Japanese in this case, make them all bullet trains. They dont necessarily have to be speed of sound reaching bullets either. 200, 300 mph is DEFINATELY fast enough (speed of sound is on average about 670-680 mph at sea level). :yondaime

Gold Knight
February 20, 2006, 11:09 PM
That'd be perfectly fine with me. It'd also cut into stress as well. If I didn't feel like I had to personally deal with traffic while going to work every time I have classes at college or had a photography job, I'd definitely feel a lot less stressed. Personally without cars I think there'd be less of a rushed, unfriendly atmosphere in all the cities.

I would definitely prefer trains.

I'm not sure as I've stopped keeping track of what goes on there today.

But it's likely because they are trying to fix what the hacker did to NF before bringing it back. Also our tech guy is most likely exasperated with having to deal with another case so soon. He was very upset the last time it happened, and he's very meticulous and careful in discovering why it happened and trying to figure out how to prevent it if it happens again. Which I can understand... Posted at: February 23, 2006, 10:42:53 PM_________________________________________________* * * *

Okay, Anax, Crimson, and shinraiden got into a conversation about the environment here, and it was getting to be a rather involved convo, so I've split all the posts off into its own thread: What's Up With the Environment? (http://mangahelpers.com/forum/index.php?topic=1792.0)

So if you want to continue the conversation, please do so there. :)

But in the first post [b]Anax also included the following comments:

The tech guy is mad because you have more work for him? :eyeroll
Anyway, NF being hacked is somehow scary... As the site's popularity increases, so will the attacks against it. Also, sites like "stop Tazmo" don't help either!! Imagine 2007 being full of "Tazmo Stopping Paladins" firing nukes at the servers... :s

@Nah-Nah

Check this out. You are here because NF is down... Wishing for NF to be up and running FAST is like wishing you away. On the other hand, wishing you'd stay is like wishing NF down for ever.

Stargate SG-1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_SG-1) has 9 seasons, going for 10 and in Greece only 1 or 2 have been aired!

1st. I dunno if it's good to say that, but better find it on Torrent.
2nd. Stargate SG1 turns into StarWarsGate later, so the first few seasons are the best.
3rd. Try Stargate Atlantis. It's a derived storyline so it's good because they don't need to stick to old cannons there.
Plus Stargate Atlantis has only two seasons by now, so it's faster.

if you like to be tortured try the torrent, if you have a dsl on home then try it anyway - that's my advise. i tried to download the first 25 episodes of Naruto and i should have waitted for at least 10 days for it to be downloaded OMG :s :blink :darn no friking way. i'd rather download it piece by piece, one by one with normal speed...if i find them that way of cource :notrust damn..... I WANT THE FIRST EPISODES BEFORE THE FILLERS... i don't have a problem reading/living :amuse the manga, but i must admit that some scenes are aaaaawsome-cool-just perfect on motion (for example Naruto's first "outrage" against Haku)

Thing is that you try to download episodes, none's providing these days. So, if you want them there's no other way as waiting and extra managing download process. Draining one by one will be even worse, cause i'll be hard to find a still active non-batced torrent of a two year old anime.
Goold luck anyways (you'll need it, don't reject it) and I wish you success. :amuse

Good thing is that they are ariring all seasons here (up till now season 8) - so you can buy the original DVD's.

:oh i didnt know there so many Stargate fans here...I got hooked recently and have been watching reruns late saturday nights. I remember seeing the first movie and the first few episodes of the first season, then my family moved, and we didnt have cable for a good long time, so I kinda forgot it existed, lol. I just recently started watching Atlantis. I actually like it quite a bit more that SG-1. I saw some SG-1 reruns recently and it reminded alot of Andromeda and Star Trek (Its somewhat like both of them mixed together). Except Star Trek was, IMO, a good watch only half the time, and I didnt like Andromeda very much at all... :p.

Forum is a way of comunity. Don't get addicted to it. Remember of the real life.

That's what I just had to write to remind everyone reading this, that this forum is the best, but even so it's a forum, not some kind of food. We have to avoid unhealthy depression due to such simple thing like broken comp (boffenjl's case). After all patience will only strenghten the temper. We all know gambling and drug addiction. Those are serious stuff and it's a disapointment everytime it's diagnosticed. I don't want forum addiction to be stated as a diagnosis, EVER.

Bah, sorry to hear that - hope you get it fixed quickly and come back soon.

But maybe this story will make you feel better - back in October, the first week I was moderated at Naruto Forums, I went thru exactly the same thing - my computer had to be repaired, and I was so nervous that they'd lose faith in me being any help. So I made sure to run to the library (about eight blocks away) every day to get on the computer in order to help out for two hours - which was how long I could spend on the computer there. Did it for a week.

In the end, I found out that I shouldn't have worried much at all - the mod team was sometimes inactive for months and didn't get demoted, and if I had done nothing for a week, they wouldn't have said anything. Oh well, at least I still got some exercise.

Just use the time to focus on other fun stuff. And then come back and tell us about it ;)

Ahem.........

Let me think...I was modded back in December 2005 sometime after the breakdown of NF. We were having this great convo on buying an island in the World with DZ, nana and others. Somehow, I got my own Ask Mes thread and GK offered me this job. Gladly I accepted it. First week was a tough one. I couldn't merge, move and so on. That took me a few days before finally setting down and now, I'm just relaxing around, posting, making spoilers thread, enjoy myself and keep this place organized. :occa

hahaha, thats great. good to see you found my information helpful. I think ive helped a good 5 people thus far with their router problems. Its especially amusing to me because Ive only had a router for a whole 2 months now. I was running 56k for a good 4 years, *sigh* yet somehow I downloaded 500 Gigs worth of anime in that time, lol.
*I have to thank the academy...actually no, all my thanks goes to my poor computer which NEVER got any rest. EVER. Thank You.*

On a related note: for some reason I cant get addicted to the internet. Its like Im immune to addictions. Maybe its my immaterialistic nature? who knows. Its just nice to be immune to something, lol.

EDIT: and for those of you wondering how it is I type such long responses to subjects without much time at my computer (such as the enviroment subject which was just recently moved from this thread for a VERY good reason, tx GK btw), I usually just get on my computer every now and then and check for interesting posts, type my response (usually rather fast, about 5 minutes or so, unless I have about 3 or 4 different people to respond to, then it becomes an essay, lol), and go off to do something else.

Mod stories? My pleasure. :)

There was a day in January, when I was talking to my man GK, and I don't know how he did it, but before I knew it, I had agreed to try to lively up the OP section of MH, even though I was visiting too many forums already.
After a couple of days of posting, he came on msn again and said "hey, wanna mod the section? ;D?" Of course, I accepted heartily.
But there was something wrong with the mod usergroup, so I didn't get to do everything I was supposed to, so after a little fiddling he just said "ah, screw it, I'll just make you smod instead."

..And then, to test me, he made me battle a GIANT DRAGON OF DOOM AND DEATH

Tip: Don't give the admins any ideas. *has a pet killer Red Dragon that he tamed in his heyday*

shinraiden

The biggest complication I think for Mod's is maintaining a proper attitude across their boards and other boards. On the forums I run as part of my work, I'm the full uber-admin with rights to arbitrarily slap down full serverhost-level IP netblock bans, and report them to my boss later if I feel like it. Along with that I can as the admin tell people to officially ST*U and pretty much whatever. The whole absolute power thing.

But when I go to other forums I frequent such as this one where I'm not even a VIP or even a single forum co-mod, I have to remind myself that things work differently. Even though I have a NF forums ID of 3028 and a MH id of 29, that still doesn't mean a whole lot, and there's some forums that I wander through occasionally where I'm a total newbie stranger, and most certainly not the BofH uberadmin.

Of course though, the time I went admin...

The boss had given me the server root access to setup some email accounts and upload some data, but hadn't given me the forums access. So one morning I got an IM from a fellow troll saying we'd just gotten hax0r'd. So I could get at the server, but not at the forums. I made a temp little maintanence page and pushed it up, then turned around and pinged my boss like mad until he woke up and gave me forums admin access too. Now he stays away from the forums and leaves it all up to me.

For other admins though, you really ought to check out MySQL's browser and admin tools. They're awesome, even if you still have to write the SQL to actually edit the fields.

Yeah, moderators do have to keep mindful that they have to set an example for everybody else, that's why I'm particularly proud of our staff - they all do a very good job of that. The forum wouldn't have grown at the pace it did without their help. And it wouldn't have been as nice without all the friendly members we have, either.

I've seen MySQL, it does have some nice features. At the moment I'm so much more familiar with SMF and Vbulletin though that switching to anything else would probably take some doing for me...

Um, MySQL is the database backend for lots of different types of forums. Using the MySQL admin tools allows you to directly dump and edit the database, as well as backup and restore to a remote location, often far more effectively than you could with whatever tools are built into the forums admin packages. Especially if you want to set up a functional dev mirror to test changes and other stuff to underlying management code.

It's rather continent. All the Europe switches now. America is doing it a week later. I really don't know why government's keeping such a rudimentary practice. I mean, it's been a century already since we do this. Also the electricity for light is not and issue anymore. The share lightning takes in electricity distribution charts becomes smaller every year. There's no use of it anymore.

Here's an idea! Let's all become politicians of our countries, enter the parlaments and take the Daylight Saving concepts away. We'll save a lot of nerve that way.

As for politics I'm dead tired of people telling me to be a politician because of the way I speak to people. I'd rather be a hitman than a politician... Although I do admit that most of my class had given me praise for being the numero uno hollow talker in it. That means I was the best in talking a lot without saying anything, mostly what the politicians do. I was also the best at having my crowd understand less than half of what I was talking about or where I was going with it... still, I'm quite sure Shinraiden coudl easily whoop my ass with HIS skill on the matter :D

I was one of the best speakers in my class, but when I went to university I thought there will be many having good leadership and orator skills (because of the course I'm taking, that is necessary). It turned out that others suck bigtime at it. I mean come on, how come that from thirty groupmates, I'm the only one able to speak in front without struggling.

But I'm not sure I don't want to be politician. Sometimes I just want to become one and show those post-soviet dorks how things should be done in 21st century. :shakefist

Yup! Few days ago our local Watergate arose. Those politician dorks had tried to trade our resort city's, Jūrmala major position. The mobile calls were listened and recorded by local secret service. And then some information leek occured and those recorded conversations were given to national television, who replayed them on national newsflash.

I'd say it's pretty "that bad", if not worse. The country is the most corrupt in the EU, because of them.

For every problem there's my approach possible:

@Tanuki: Chew something your dog likes. Maybe it won't influence the dog, but it could be fun. XD

@FHT: I solved this problem long ago, by having a system disk and "the other disk". System disk is an 5Gb senior. No data, only OS and progs. Such things now cost as much as a sandwich, but are bloody hard to find. The other can be 128Gb giant designed for storage. In that case you don't care how fast it works as long as you get all the data in or out. Try it, works goooood.

I've heard that those doggie treats are quite tasty. Something in between chips and crackers. :darn
Imagine what a good revenge it would be if your dog saw you eating all his doggie treats in front of him?

But if we speak seriously, I've read that in such case dogs must be punished, so they don't get spoiled. They must learn not to chew small black boxes. Somehow, dogs might get spoiled even more than some children.
