This is taken from a similar thread on A-E: how much crap do you put up with because of your anime/manga fandom?
I'm lucky enough to have roommates that watch anime, too, so school isn't a problem. My parents used to bitch at me over it, but they gave up after a while. I still try not to watch/read much at home, though.
What about you guys?
I get crap from my girlfriend about it constantly.
Being a martial artist though, i find most people there, where i spend most of my time, at least watch the animes.
Also, I lived with my great aunt for a little while and she thought that Rurouni Kenshin was "hedonsitic looking." i think she meant something more like sadistic or satanic because of the sharp art style, i thought it was hilarious.
Not really. I'll talk about it with the four or five friends I have that like anime/manga (IRL), so not many people even know I like it outside of the internet. I don't really flaunt it. Not because I'm ashamed or embarrassed, but simply because my anime/manga fandom is an escape for me, it's to get out of this world. With that said, I surely do not want to taint that intense escape I get from reading manga or watching anime by relating it to real life events, people, problems, etc. Life annoys me enough already, anime and manga keep me going at times by the sheer fact they let me escape (as opposed to drinking, getting high, or other extremities).
However, when I do get really into a discussion with my best friend, whom I mostly talk anime/manga with, I do tend to get some odd stares here and there from a pack of wolves (women) or a group of cock blockers (men with heads up their ass). Even so, I'm fairly asshole-ish in real life if I don't know you, to be completely honest, so no one has said anything directly. I...wonder why I'm so lonely...? :( :amuse If I see, which is rare, someone getting shit for it, I might jump in and start up a nice conversation with the anime/manga fan and the person giving them crap for it will usually pull the old "U gais are ghey. *struts off*". So it's all good.

Well some call me a kid that watched animation.Im saying you dont what youre talking about,but in my class there are a couple of guys that watch anime,i dont get much flak as i used to.Nobody actualy cares tho.
Parents bitch about it, friends bitch about, basically, I have to keep it a secret, besides from some of my good friends.
naaw not really, sometimes people say stuff but i usually don't care... i mean, hey its them who are missin out on great stuff not me
I get no flak at all down to a few things firstly I'm a very fashion forward, trendy, laidback, joker of the pack, centre of attention, cool, outgoing person. I am not at all like a typical fan and when I tell people I like anime and manga it makes me seem more quirky and fun just adds to my appeal.
Secondly because I'm very good at cussing people so if they try and say anything to me I just let them know about themselves.
Only some of my closest friends know that I read manga, but I have no problem telling anybody else. It's not like I'm proud or embarrassed to say it, I consider it a hobby, just like people may like videogames or reading other magazines.
Only my parents a few times said things like "those childish paintins", but I convinced them the manga I read is more mature than the books they read or the movies they watch...
I give others flak for missing out. f00lz
I usually don't have too many problems with manga, especially with my mom. I was always a bookworm as a child, so it's nothing new. Anime is a different matter. I have had both my younger (yes, younger) sister and my roommate call me a child many times. Mom usually just sighs and goes about her day. All in all, I can read anytime I want, but I usually watch whenever I'm home alone.
I don't have many problems with being an anime-manga-fan, too. All my friends know about my obsessiin, I have one, two friends with who, I can talk about anime-manga, my parents know about my hobby quite well.... even my teachers and several classmates know about it.
Yet nobody is making fun of me because of that. On the contrary, they all like my fanarts. ^^
nobody bothers me about it cause they know i whoop ass. my brother the only one who says all i watch is anime.
my mum sometimes nag if i watch too much.. my older brothers, influenced by me, like anime too so we talk abt it and all :amuse my close friends are fine with me being an anime freak X) but I get teased alot by some of my male classmates who thinks anime are childish.
times like that you should get tough. you gotta let them know your gonna spazz if they mess with you. they only do as much as you allow them to.
People in my school are usually douches about it, but there are some that enjoy it. I tried to introduce it to some people, but they only liked Naruto. I don't like talking talking about that series, though.
But a bunch of my other friends read it, so it's not too bad.
